i dont know if there's even a ppop presence on tumblr but i do also want to promote ALAMAT, a 6-member idol boy group from the Philippines. Its members comprise of Taneo, Mo, Jao, Tomas, R-ji, and Alas. They debuted in 2021, and their creative direction centers on championing the Filipino identity and culture through their music.

The video direction focused on the "human zoo" in the St. Louis' World Fair of 1904 (which included Filipinos specifically Igorots), and a general theme of anti-Filipino racism by white people (who are represented as ominous figures literally dressed in all white)

personal opinion: the music video is great but i personally think they have better songs, music-wise. and i'm going to give you an example of that by introducing you to my ALL-TIME FAVORITE ALAMAT SONG!!!

ILY ILY, a transliteration of "Ili-Ili Tulog Anay", incorporates the melody and lyrics of the Ilonggo lullaby it derives its title from. The MV and lyrics both work together to portray the experience of being an OFW/having an OFW parent. OFWs, or overseas Filipino workers, refer to Filipinos who go abroad in search of jobs that have better pay, so that they can remit money back to their families in the Philippines.

personal opinion: this is their best song THIS IS THEIR BEST SONG EVER OF ALL TIME and lyca gairanod is such a perfect singer for this. her ethereal crooning really gave me chills the first time i heard it UGH

DAYANG, the term for the wife of a Datu, is one of their most earworming songs ever. It's a gorgeous love song and what I would recommend to newbies if they want to get into alamat <3

personal opinion: The MV is kinda ass because it's just a super long extended ad for DITO PH (in terms of story and also bc they really missed out on doing a vid that drew more on culture esp bc dayang is a historical noble title and they used tausug words and designs for the graphics an the dance itself already incorporated pangasik dance which is also from the tausug people LIKEEE?? they've always promoted other cultures of the philippines i know they can do it but because of CAPITALISM--). But the song bangs so severely, as a pop enjoyer this is peak pop for me.

DAGUNDONG, a song basically recounting the colonial history of the Philippines from Spain to America, is just so fucking good you should watch/listen to it rn. There's EN subs don't worry you won't miss out on the context. This is colonial rage it's so satisfying I still remember where I was when they dropped this.

personal opinion: FOREVER OBSESSED WITH HOW THEY SAY "dahil puso mandirigma di papakutsa di papapugon" you guys have no idea how much i sing that line to myself sooo satisfying. Instant earworm this song i swear.

MAHARANI, a Sanskrit term for the wife of a Maharaja (translated as "great queen"), heavily features singkil, a Maranao dance which uses bamboo poles like tinikling does. The song also uses SEAsian instruments like kanun, gamelan, and gangsa. Also BINI's Jhoanna plays one of the main characters here!!!

personal opinion: this is their most pop-sounding song, which i think is slightly carried by the video i'm sorryyy. it's catchy though!! and i looove the part somewhere halfway where alas starts his verse, singing it in a more spoken-word way

also ppop idols are just really funny. there's no concept of an idol image so they just tweet shit. alamat jao gave out his genshin UID after a fan tweeted about having co-oped with him in genshin, and then after that he started answering questions with the hashtag "#canceljao" making a lot of magiliws (alamat fans) confused, and then he posted a classic iphone notes apology like this 😭

i'll do a bini version after this my girls deserve more international hype. they occupy a more girlcrush pop genre but they're just as chaotic as alamat if not even more 😭 there are entire THREADS on twitter of them just being hilarious jdhfkshgf i love them so much

As you can see, I'm an artist and a writer. Particularly, I love doing silly doodles, illustrations, comics and fanfiction, and I hope to become an animator or a comic artist one day. However, I'm open to any art or writing career that welcomes me along the way!

I try not to get into discourse as I've done so before, and it's very unhealthy for me (so please don't bring that up towards me!) However, I still want to make the following clear:

I'm pro-Palestine and anti-Zionist, but I'm still inclusive towards Jewish people. No government actions should be an excuse for bigotry, and Jewish people should always be welcomed.

I'm inclusive when it comes to LGBT+ identities. While I may not always understand all identities, I've learnt to just mind my own business. It makes you happy, and it doesn't harm people? Then go forth! Be yourself :]

I find it super funny how my parents casually dropped lore about me. So apparently when I was younger, I spoke only in pure Spanish. I understood English but answered back in Spanish (thanks Dora.) Then when I was a little older, my mom trained me to speak both English and Spanish, because she said, not everyone understands Spanish but they understand English. Now my dilemma was I understood my native tongue (Filipino/Tagalog) but I only answered back in English.

Now as an adult I can speak English and Tagalog and on the rare occasion, Spanish too (but not as fluent as I was before) but goddamn, my parents showed me a video of younger me and boy oh boy, I didn't sound like a Filipino at all. Nowadays though whenever I go back to the province, where my mom lived most of her youth, nobody talks to me because they are worried that I won't understand them, but then I also have those who try really hard to speak English even if it ain't the best and honestly I love them so much.

I was also paid by my parents to just keep speaking English because they like my voice and they like the fact that I don't sound Filipino at all XD

You won’t find numbers or anything super specific, I’ve been out and about with family for the holidays so podcasts and duolingo have been my main means of learning.

* Listened to a few podcasts and discovered a French talk show !! It’s called “À bientôt de te revoir” and I find the host incredibly funny. Sometimes French humour goes straight over my head, but I found myself laughing out loud!

Out of nowhere at 4 in the morning, I decided that I was gonna take up Spanish again! I understand A LOT and I was really impressed with myself! So I’m going to start taking in more comprehensible input to restart my Spanish journey 🤓

* As I mentioned, I’m with family a lot lately and I’ve been practicing Tagalog! Sure, it’s ass but I’m learning! Learning a new language reminds you of how fun it is to be discovering a new culture, even one you’re already a part of.

* Tagalog can be intimidating especially if you’re not used to VSO languages BUT Tagalog speakers use a lot of English on a daily basis so you can use English if you don’t know the word in Tagalog. In fact, my tita (aunt in Tagalog) was teasing me for using Tagalog words when in the Philippines, they use the English word.

Reels

My mom has been obsessed with making reels since her friend Ellen does it. She asked me to teach her to hashtags and I hesitate because I am in the process of working on my phone/social media/internet addiction. I don't want her further glued to her phone. The first two videos she uploaded about Manila and Mount Makiling has love songs and we laugh about how out of pocket it was to attach them. She laughs that maybe people might think she's in love with Manila skyscrapers. Her Zumba friend Ellen attached the same song to some Zumba footage. I tell my mom, hey you have a fan! You're an influencer.

She proceeds to make more reels and asks me for hashtag guidance. I am not quite sure what I am doing but I think my Boomer is turning into a Zilennial.

2. Futon Karaoke

While waiting for last night's blog to load, my mom was looking up songs to post on her reel tomorrow. She came across Bread's "Everything I Own." She started singing and I joined in as we lay on the futon from the broken bed in the living room. I am doing hard-core doo-wop gestures and she's closing her eyes while singing soulfully. I think it's funny only because the song is fitting for this mother and daughter bonding moment.

3. Silly

My mom is watching the reel count go up instead of sending me photos for my documentation project of our adventures from yesterday. I am like, "Mom why are you being so silly right now?" She responds, "I am not silly. I am crazyyyyy."

Point made.

4. Nightmare

Two nights ago I had a nightmare that my mom told the guy the wrong specs to my hair cut in Tagalog and it was much shorter and uneven. Before we head to our errands and the anticipated haircut, I tell her about my nightmare. She laughs, "Oh is that why you were yelling and crying your sleep?"

Pray for me. My mom is a bully.

today is 6/30/2024 i just wanna write up a log of the things that i've tried so far i guess

i feel like my chinese learning journey is kinda interesting bc . i'm more addicted to trying to innovate/revolutionize/optimize how to learn chinese more than actually learning chinese . and sure some of that could be attributed to instant gratification or wtvr, but also i am also rly addicted to trying to solve physics-esque/mathy problems and that's just what my brain is inclined towards doing, like if it recognizes smth as mathy and nonoptimal then it'll compulsively search for a solution lol . usually this activity doesnt actually turn out to be super productive (and a lot of the time it can seem like im just Wildly Overcomplicating things, and there's definitely an argument for that, yes) but i believe it's at least Somewhattt useful + at least i enjoy the rush (sometimes) + maybe one day ill finally get some Good idea and then ill make millions !!! or maybe that is just what i tell myself to cope . Lmao . anyway.

After some goading, Simon slipped back inside and threw on the spare trunks. And he was right. They did not fit him at all. Never had he thought that he should wear a belt while swimming.

He joined Johnny and Riley (who was gently drifting off to sleep)  in the top hot tub, enjoying the heat on his knots and stiff joints. Simon peered over the edge into the pool to watch as Axi and Kyle got into battle positions. Leon, having lost the swim race, had challenged Kyle to a chicken fight. Which was perfect when absolutely no one was the same height. 

Axi sat tall and proud on her husband’s shoulders, Kyle hunched forward slightly on Rune’s shoulders, trying to make it a fair fight. Leon stood as tall as possible as Axi and Kyle locked hands, pushing at each other. 

Axi, while small, was so scrappy. She attempted to both headbutt Kyle and kick Rune, neither of which were successful attacks, but they threw the boys off their game. Rune staggered backwards, cursing out Axi in Tagalog. Axi yelling back in Spanish.

The language of playful hatred transcends all barriers.

Slamming back into each other after the shouting match, Kyle knocked Axi off balance. She scraped the surface of the pool, using her tight grip on Leon’s hair to pull herself back into place, sopping wet.

Much like a rider and her horse, Axi kicked at Leon to drive him forward. Loyal and slightly scared, Leon charged forward, his hands tight around Axi’s ankles. Leon’s head made solid connection with Rune’s sternum, shoving the tall man back a few steps, his hands on Kyle faltering. 

“There’s no way that was a legal move!” Kyle yelled at Riley, who had apparently agreed to judge.

Riley, glancing over her sunglasses, casually waved him off, “all is fair in love and war.”

Johnny and Simon snorted, knowing she very much had not seen the move Leon pulled off.

“The Geneva Convention exists! Fives! Things are very much not all fair in war,” Kyle exclaimed, “YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT.”

Kyle made the fatal error of attempting to lock eyes with Riley to prove his point, his body relaxed enough for Axi to.

Just.

Push.

Him.

SPLASH.

Over.

Kyle surfaced seconds later, laughing his ass off. 

“Alright, that was a solid move, Kennedy,” he said, grabbing Rune from behind, resting his chin on his boyfriend’s shoulder.

Leon unceremoniously dunked his wife and himself, unsure of a better way to drop her.

“That was fun, we should do that again. After dinner. A rematch,” Axi said, fire in her eyes, the desire to kick more ass fully apparent. Leon gently guided her towards the edge of the pool to let her regain her composure.

Speaking of dinner, Price was making his position of “Team Dad” well known as he fired up the grill, having found Riley’s stash of charcoal. 

Kate helped him with making burgers, cutting veggies and shaping patties, as the grill heated up.

Slowly but surely, the smell of food drew all the kids out of the pool and to the deck. Burgers and bags of chips and sodas were passed around, bringing a truly American feeling to the sleepy Canadian town. 

Riley lacked a table large enough to host everyone at once, so lounge chairs and an inside table were dragged up and out to the patio. The makeshift banquet table had plenty of seating and space for the task force.

They all ate and talked like they hadn’t seen each other in years. Kate shared pics of herself and her wife, announcing that they were planning on adopting. Rune and Axi both cracked their own jokes about the amount of dad jokes the poor future child would be exposed to. Neither Price nor Simon found the jokes funny. 

Kyle shared that he was doing online school during downtime, finally earning the degree he wanted. 

“It’s nothing useful, but I’ve always enjoyed botany,” he mused, sharing fun facts about plants and the history of plant domestication. Rune made the mental note to grab cuttings of Riley’s succulents before they bailed.

Leon shared pics and videos of his and Axi’s recent trip to Hawaii, while she and Riley fed the dogs. The dogs who Riley had recently trained to do a few new tricks (mostly just more tactical usage, but Tofu could now shake and spin in a circle on command).

…

Post dinner, the sun was still low in the sky, providing enough light to allow for a final swim or two. Axi, finding herself too full, flew her little white flag, promising Rune and Kyle a rematch next time.

“The pool will still be here in the morning, there’s no need to rush unprepared into a second battle,” Leon said sagely, nursing a warm cup of tea, enjoying the cooling air around him. Axi rested her head on Leon’s chest, cozying up to him on their shared recliner. 

Kyle and Rune ran off for one last super soaker battle, the sunset providing just enough light. Kyle seemed most likely to win this time around, finding a hidey hole ASAP.

Riley and Price settled a bet about lung capacity while Simon, Johnny, and Laswell just floated, lightly chatting. The dogs had all collapsed and were sleeping in a gentle pile, Albert looked stressed in his sleep, surrounded by two long snoots and so. Much. Fluff. 

As the sun fully set, the group found themselves returning to the safety of the deck. Laswell relit the grill as Riley scampered through her pantry for s’mores fixings.

Returning successfully with many types of chocolate bars, graham crackers (honey and cinnamon), and too many marshmallows, Riley built herself some horrifying affront to god. They all roasted marshmallows and just munched on good crackers.

“Y’all are free to spend the night, if you want,” Riley said, sucking down a bottle of water, having had too much sugar, “I’ve got the guest bed and a bunch of blankets and air mattresses. Could probably rig up a movie screen too with the projector and a big sheet.”

The majority of the Task Force, Price and Laswell excluded, all loved the idea. Unfortunately the work couple had to get home, actually having to show up on base the next morning. Price clapped everyone on the back, thanking Riley for the relaxing day, while Kate had to fight off Axi who had fallen a little delirious (flirty, she was acting like she was when drunk, a total flirt) thanks to the sun and slight dehydration. 

The remaining group turned in, grabbing all the soft things from Riley’s house, while she set up the air mattresses and Johnny hooked up the projector to her laptop. Rune and Kyle dragged the guest bed mattress out to the “living room”, claiming the tallest and softest bed for themselves (and the three dogs who would join the boys).

Axi picked some stupid romcom, while Leon cuddled up to Simon (who sat awkwardly on both the Kennedy’s mattress and the Bowers-MacTavish mattress). Riley had sacked out immediately, face buried in her pillow, arm flopped sadly on Johnny’s knee. Kyle struggled to stay awake, while Rune and Johnny, sitting eight feet apart, played some game together on their phones. 

Eventually everyone nodded off, although never at the same time, as Netflix played movies at random.

This photo was taken when i was 6 years old and my parents already went back from abroad and it has a funny story, it was early in the morning and am already dreesed ready to go to school when some two strangers come to our house,at first i thought they were working on the baranggay checking some health status since they have the same shirt,but what am confused about is they are with my uncle whose living in the next town and visits us just every weekends with his wife and my cousin so because of that i telled my grandparents that my uncle is here and there are two strangers is with him,i was shocked when my grandma shouted out of joy and telling me that there are my parents,and i was also shock since i haven't seen them for long when my mom is already near me she hug me and cried because i didn't recognise them,well you can't blame me thay have been gone for years and i already forget there faces and since video calls wasn't a thing back then i can only talk to them through phone calls and after that maybe weeks after,we flew back in the home town of my mom here in lemery and didn't have the chance to say goodbye to my classmates and friends there because its unexpected. When we already arrived here i need to adjust again i already forget how to speek tagalog and because of that i have a hard time to communicating to other people again,i missed school because the class is already starting and am still learning tagalog again so my mom didn't enrolled me because she was afraid that i might get bully because of the way i talk.

yo! i’ve decided to use this blog after a whole two or so months since i have been using a side blog for quite a while (formerly lume-nescence) and i do want to look for mutuals! i am very shy/awkward but can warm up quickly when we share a good vibe together! or even share the same interests :D (ignore how rushed this is idk how to make a tumblr post look appealing LMAOAO)

so uh hi hello! im lume and im filo! (who knows little about tagalog), i go by any pronouns but i prefer they/them! oh and im a minor (high school student) so no weirdos please

what i do besides write: make edits, edit videos, sleep, watch anime, play video games, listen to music, etc (pretty basic i know i get it, also i used to play piano!)

other things to know: i write solely for fun and that alone. so don’t be surprised if there’s grammatical errors or anything of the sort.

there are times where im active most of the time, but tend to lurk/be away also. so apologies for any inactivity if there is

i swear pretty often and if you’re uncomfortable with it i will try to tone down the swearing. please bear with me i tend to swear when im angry or humorous.

i follow back selectively, and although i say i can warm up pretty quickly there are times where im awkward so please bear with me :sob: also i could be awkward with starting conversations, forgive me :,)

i may be a little talkative at times, so bear with me on this one too, but i’m mostly awkward/dry most of the time. sorry GDJAJFJ

also ig i can be funny whenever time wants to. idk how or why, but most of what i’ve said are.. either out of pocket or downright rofl material. (it’s all for jokes but if i do get too far lmk!!) also i follow and/or followback people selectively.
