Different styles, but both incredibly interesting and well-made. Loves planes.

RealLifeLore: Similar to HAI/Wendover, videos generally go between 6min to 12min. Lots of interesting and diverse topics with a fun tone. Geography videos and hypothetical questions galore. Super well-made, too. Loves Toyota Corollas.

Scary/Mysteries

Bedtime Stories: A channel producing 20-30 minute videos about a diverse array of mysteries: cryptids, aliens, disappearances, true crime, you name it. Each video features original black and white artwork to go with the narration, and the atmosphere it manages to create is impeccable. Very well-researched, and very mindful and respectful of the victims it talks about. Highly reccommended.

Nexpo: Youtuber that specializes in investigative videos about a variety of mysteries, both from the internet and from real life. He’s covered anything from video game mysteries, to reddit enigmas, to ARGs, to real life dissapearances and unsettling occurences. He has a series called “Disturbing Things From Around The Internet”, which is absolutely chilling. Super engaging and terrifying. As we say, everybody gangsta until Nexpo says “Let’s take a look...”.

Barely Sociable: Similar to Nexpo, he puts out long, documentary-style videos about internet and real life mysteries. He’s dived into varios videos about the dark web and the silk road, and is currently doing a multiple-part series about the mystery regarding the identity of the creator of Bitcoin. Really cool videos.

LEMMiNO: King of quality over quantity. He might not upload much, but when he does it’s an absolute delight. He makes 20-30min long documentary-style videos about diverse topics, mostly centering on mysteries and other curious occurrences, such as the Battle of Los Angeles, The Mandela Effect, or the Dyatlov Pass Incident. INCREDIBLY high-quality video, you really feel like watching a TV documentary.

Gaming

Achievement Hunter: A group of people who play games and are kinda terrible at them most of the time, and who are part of Rooster Teeth, the guys who make shows like RWBY and RvB. Not only do they play video games (such as Minecraft, GTA, GMod, and countless more), they also play board games, and have a variety of other live action shows you can enjoy. If you decide to get into them, it’s a one way trip, but what a trip it is!

Press Buttons and Talk: The gaming channel of Alex Mankin and SungWon Cho (yes, ProZD!). They upload every day, and have played a wild variety of games, so I’m sure there-s something for everyone. 24 Frames of Nick: He makes videos about movies, and those videos end up being hilarious. Lots of videos about movies that you probably forgot existed, about movies that are absolutely terrible, and he also made a nighmare-inducing video about the world of Thomas the Tank Engine. Shoot Me Baby, One More Time

It has been a while since the last main entry of the Borderlands franchise. So, when Borderlands 3 was announced, there was an understandable sense of excitement in the air. Until, of course, it all turned sour when PC players discovered it would only be released on Epic Game Store. At least, for the first six months. Thus, it came as a surprise that when I visited the local EB Games after work, I found that all the PC versions of the game had been sold out. I mean, yes, I could have taken a detour all the way to Merrylands to secure myself a copy of the redeemable code that came from the PC release. To do so, however, would have meant unnecessarily going out of my way.

In the end, I had to settle with the idea of purchasing it from the actual digital storefront. Once downloaded, I began to play the game in earnest. And though I was tempted to play as FL4K, the robot Beastmaster, I opted instead for Zane Flynt. I know, I know. ProZD or SungWon Cho. Yet, as my default play style usually revolved around being a snipe and Zane offered the chance to be a sneaky operative, I took the easy route.

Which, unfortunately, is the problem with Borderlands 3. Despite trailers promising unique styles of gameplay and the exploration of various worlds, Borderlands 3 still felt very similar to the previous games. As I put in the hours, I found that I hardly ever experimented with the various types of weapons. For me, it was all about immediate damage. By the time the credits rolled, I had used the same combination of pistol, sub-machine gun (SMG), assault rifle and sniper rifle for several hours. WHile there was the occasional change between Maliwan and Dahl for the SMG, I was often drawn to the raw power that came from a Jakobs for sniping and using Torgue’s explosive rounds to blow away my foes.

That’s not to mention my lackadaisical choices when it came to grenades. Playing as Zane meant that I could equip two skills - which meant that enemies were usually taken out by my Digiclone and Drone Sentry. A fact that I used to my advantage as I primarily played alone without using the cooperative elements of the video game.

Let’s, however, get into the narrative. Just like in the trailers, Borderlands 3 very much takes aim at current internet culture and tries to satirise it with the twin villains: Troy and Tyreen Calypso. Is it me or were twins somewhat a thing in 2019? Far Cry New Dawn, anyone? 

In any case, for some strange reason, these two millennial YouTube stars have somehow managed to build up a cult between the ending of Borderlands 2 and the third entry with the hope of opening up the Great Vault. Enter the latest slew of Vault Hunters: Zane, FL4K, Amara and Moze. Within the first mission, these new Vault Hunters are coralled into the Crimson Raiders. The next several hours involved trying to keep one step ahead of the Calypso twins by finding the other Vaults scattered across the universe.

By leaving Pandora, Gearbox was able to provide several new colour palettes other than brown. This was particularly enjoyable when exploring Promethea and Athenas that took inspiration from a mega-city and a monastic temple, respectively. But when, I finished Eden-6, however, I was feeling a fatigue from the huge maps. It seemed that each main mission had to involve an hour long slog through a mass of enemies every twenty metres or so, with little variety in tactics involved. 

This was particularly evident in the final third of the game and it took some effort to remain invested. It did not help that the villains felt like caricatures. Even some of the Crimson Raiders felt like fan service cameos. What about Axton, Salvador, Gaige and Krieg? 

Still, I did very much enjoy the twist on Typhon DeLeon. As the famed First Vault Hunter, he was often perceived as an Indiana Jones type of character. The short, slightly obese man that we finally stumbled upon was the perfect counterpoint. The rest of the story was also serviceable - providing an exciting climax as well as an appropriate sense of motivation to stop whatever the Calypso twins have in mind.

There was also a sidequest that also poked fun at broken games as well as microtransactions. Both of them two major issues plaguing our current generation of games.

Once I had finished Borderlands 3, with plenty of loot to divvy up for a singular party of one, I felt more relieved than anything else. Perhaps it was the fact that I wanted something a little different. It just felt like more of the same, but also bigger and more bombastic. Despite the number of bandits and skags just around every corner, the worlds of Borderlands 3 still felt very empty. Inventory management was also a nightmare and I did not care much for many of the abilities on Zane’s skill trees. 

Gripes aside, Borderlands 3 was still an entertaining distraction. Yes, some moments felt quite contrived and the level design could have been a little more creative. But I would still recommend this loot-fest to those that enjoy pretty colours and have a good friend to accompany them on their journey to save the universe.

Nagito - Errrrrr………….well, let’s start from the beginning. I didn’t know what to think when playing the game. The only thing I knew prior to playing was that he was crazy in love with hope and the protagonist. When I was playing, I neither liked nor disliked him but enjoyed when he was on-screen because he spiced things up. Then I read about his life before the Killing Game and understood him much better, realized that he probably became obsessed with hope due to all the tragedies in his life. He had to believe there was light at the end of what had so far been a very, very dark tunnel. So now I'd say he’s a pretty interesting character, but I still don’t know if I’d say I genuinely like him. His crush on Hajime really intrigued me, though…I could mention how one of the few openly gay characters in the games is crazy as fuck, but being the remnants of the Ultimate Despair, everyone was 🤷🏾‍♀️ The thing about his feelings is that they’re so starkly genuine to me if that makes sense. Like, Nagito lies and manipulated constantly, making him unpredictable, dangerous, and not someone fun to be friends with. But then there’s that line and the fact that it was very much an aborted love confession in the Japanese version, and—I don’t know, you see that this kid isn’t just some depraved weirdo lol. I guess I just think his crush is kind of sweet 🤷🏾‍♀️

The Ultimate Imposter - I liked him because he took charge and wanted to keep everyone safe, which made hija death pretty sad. Then I found out he was a fake and it was just like, welp lol. Craziest thing is that I thought he was Byakuya’s son when I first saw him, so I was like, wait a second, did he reproduce with TOKO?!?!?! 😂

Teruteru- Hahahahahaha. I can’t think of him and Hifumi ever since learning just how much the fandom hates the two 😄 Anyway, I didn’t like him. I gained some sympathy for him after the mommy business at the end of his trial, but that doesn’t change the fact that he was a disgusting pervert who repeatedly tried to trick the clearly naïve Sonia into sucking his "loins" or whatever.

Gundham - MY MAN!! 😁 I love this weirdo, y’all. I love how he talks, I love his outfit, I love when he blushes and covers his face after Sonia compliments him. He’s one of the few executed I was genuinely upset by, so I’m glad the whole thing was fake.

Kazuichi - Errrrrr, can’t really say I care about him 🤷🏾‍♀️ I thought for SURE he had killed Mechamaru because Ultimate Inventor and all.

Sonia Nevermind - I was waiting for someone to mention how strange her  surname even though the characters speak Japanese and not English. Anyway, I kind of liked her once she started taking charge and wasn’t just the pretty girl all the boys wanted. I wish she had killed someone, though 🤣 I think a sweet princess being a murderer would’ve been fun.

Akane - Indifferent. Like I wrote in the post that spawned this post, her sexualization is annoying to say the least. It isn’t to the extent of Mikan (God KNOWS it’s not that bad) and Miu but it’s still there. The thing with her mom’s boyfriends too is...yeah 😐

Nekamaru - Someone told me he’s in the game because one of the devs’ was a shit fetishist and now I can’t get that out of my mind whenever I think of him. Anyway, I’m indifferent. The Mechamaru business kinda freaked me out at first, though 😂

Mikan - Oh, lordy lord lord. Yeah, despair fetishist, murderer, and in love with Junko of all people, but before that, I thought her character was just the saddest thing ever. She was so meek and thought really lowly of herself, always thinking she was in the way and constantly being bullied by “the little shithead” as ProZD called her (a sentiment I wholeheartedly agree with). And then she has some of the most pathetic, obvious objectification I’ve ever seen. Sure, dumb sexy things happen to female characters all the time--but never have I seen an instance where a girl falls down, somehow gets her body entangles with sausages while her legs are spread wide open, and lands with a plate seated exactly on her crotch. If there is one thing I’ll never forgive Chunsoft for, it’s that because what the actual fuck? 🤦🏽‍♀️ Then there’s -- even though I fully expected it -- her looking aroused during her execution. Straight men’s minds really be wildin’...

Hiyoko - My fucking God, I absolutely hate this bitch. She has no fucking redeeming qualities (I didn’t play her Free Time events so this could be wrong). She relentlessly bullies Mikan for no given reason, then has the gall to act like an innocent child and cry all the live long day. I hate this girl so much. Pardon to Hiyoko fans (assuming she has any) but I hoped she died some way or the other and was glad when I found her lifeless body.

Fuyuhiko - Mainly indifferent, but I liked how he was more than just a violent mafioso.

Mahiru - Oh my, how lame she was 😂 She annoyed me and then she was kind of tolerable because of her willingness to friend Hiyoko of all people and her death was somewhat sad but ultimately, I didn’t care for her.

PLVAA P19- GIRLFRIENDS

Upon learning she accidentally killed an entire town, Espella freaks out and runs to the top of the bell tower to run to her death. But Layton and Phoenix deduce it was actually not Espella who rang the bell, but Eve/Darklaw. Like Espella, she repressed some of her memories out of trauma without realizing it and remembered Espella as being the one who did it.  

THAT’S NICE FOR ESPELLA, BUT EVE STILL ACCIDENTALLY KILLED AN ENTIRE TOWN, so she freaks out and uses the invisibility cloak robe (I mean it really is a cloak guys. it’s not a robe) to disappear.

Actually it’s not nice for Espella, because even with this knowledge she still blames herself for her dad’s unnessecary fucked up fake-witch-trial town (”he did it for me!”) and is determined to commit suicide. AND SHE ACTUALLY JUMPS...only for Eve to come out of nowhere to catch her. 

WHICH WOW THIS WAS ALREADY A SHIP BUT IT JUST BECAME A SUPER-SHIP WITH THIS EXCHANGE. Remember, they’ve had matching pendants since they were kids:

Espella: Eve! Why are you doing this...! I finally remembered everything I’ve done!

Eve: You’re not the only one who remembered. You...still have the pendant...

Espella: Yes, of course...that’s because...I somehow always knew it was important to me

Eve: Espella...

Espella: You kept your pendant too, didn’t you?

Eve: Yes. For some reason...I just couldn’t let it go.

WOW GAY PENDANTS. Sorry Maya, looks like Espella’s definitely taken. Don’t worry there’s a ton of cute girls at home for you to choose from.

Phoenix is all like we gotta save them and Storyteller’s like NO THERE’S NO TIME THE RAILWAY IS ROTTED IT’S GONNA GIVE OUT (okay but maybe if you guys hadn’t stopped to talk about it there woulda been time) and Eve and Espella fall AND AS THEY FALL EVE PURPOSEFULLY GRABS ESPELLA SO SHE’S UNDER HER AND WILL BREAK HER FALL AAAAH but then Layton’s all like “lol got this” and Luke has offscreen somehow managed to turn on a crane which he uses to save Eve and Espella. APPARENTLY ALL THIS MACHINERY IN TOWN WAS INVISIBLE TO EVERYONE BECAUSE THEY WERE HYPNOTIZED NOT TO SEE THINGS THAT WERE PURE BLACK (Maya points out her hair is black but they are like NO PURE BLACK LIKE IT DOESN’T REFLECT LIGHT AT ALL) so that’s how all the machinery keeping the town and the “magic” running was invisible to them AND YOU KNOW WHAT I GIVE UP

the point is that Eve and Espella continue to be gay. Eve’s all like “YOU MUST BE SO ANGRY WITH ME FOR BLAMING YOU” and Espella’s all:

Espella: No Eve, I wasn’t angry. You’ve always been on my side, protecting me. And even today, you saved my life. I also owe you an apology. After all...I forgot about my dearest friend. I’m so sorry, Eve! (cat comes up) Oh hello, Eve!

Eve: Your... cat’s called Eve?

Espella: You know what I’ve just noticed? You two are very much alike! You and Eve the cat!

Eve: W-what? It’s all in your head!

tsun tsun dere dere also i just realized DarklawEve’s hair is supposed to look like a cat ears and tail and I’m mad.

Anyway, the storyteller is like “I DID ALL THIS BECAUSE I WAS DYING OF A ILLNESS” then two seconds later is like “but lol don’t worry it was cured” okay that was pointless. 

Also the game reinforces that the alchemist and the storyteller were basically boyfriends, and that that their daughters then became girlfriends. the important thing is Eve and Espella are gonna live together with Espella’s dumb dad and PROBABLY GET MARRIED. They should also really seek counseling. like really. 

Eve explains that she bought Layton here on purpose because he’s so amazing omg she knew he could solve the mystery. Nick’s like “...and me?” and she’s like “yeah that was an accident no idea who the fuck you are” which just sort of. captures the game’s entire attitude towards Layton and Nick. The entire game was sucking Layton’s dick and being mean to Nick and yeah. IT REALLY BACKFIRED BECAUSE IT MADE IT HARD TO LIKE LAYTON AND MADE ME SYMPATHIZE WITH NICK MORE. Truly did come off like “here’s Nick, here’s his flawless omnipowerful counterpart”.

The Judge descends from his pulpit to say he wants to stay in the town cuz it’s nice also he guesses he’s not actually a judge anymore. the town will no longer be a twisted psychological experiment yay everyone’s happy. Except all the severe trauma everyone underwent and the fact a dude literally killed himself over how fucked up this all was BUT STILL.

so Phoenix and Layton say goodbye to this weird fucking town and DANG EVE, LOOKIN HOT:

Of course, she’s always hot. I’ll have to post her concept art and different SUPER GOTH outfits.

Barnham is wearing a POLO SHIRT now which cracks me up he went from knight to prep hipster at the speed of light.

aw the credits scenes are so cute! I’ll have to post some of them. ESPECIALLY THE REALLY GAY ONE. Apparently Jean’s gender reveal did NOT deter mail lady’s crush on her after all. I’M GLAD.

Post credits Layton wonders what Nick is up to right now. I was gonna say “probs going at it with his boyfriend” and then the game CUTS TO PHOENIX VS MILES IN COURT AND CONFIRMS IT. Wow, Miles’ sprite looks rough. His voice is weird too. Like in DD they went with a British accent but it’s more like...rough sounding? which doesn’t fit? Anyway Prozd’s voice is the only English voice I can really except for Miles anyway. Like I really like that Prozd doesn’t give him a British accent against all logic but does a really stuck up “mid-atlantic” accent because “he’s not British but he wants to be”. I mean. That just nails it.

ANYWAY miles is berating Phoenix “STILL TIRED FROM YOUR HOLIDAY” he seems mad Phoenix left. Him being pissy every time is happens contributes to my headcanon Phoenix likes to leave on random trips without telling Miles as subconcious revenge for the whole “VANISHED FOR SEVERAL MONTHS AND I THOUGHT YOU WERE DEAD” deal.

“I’ll admit I sort of missed hearing your annoying ‘spell’ (OBJECTION)” YOU MISSED HIM IN GENERAL MILES.

Well that was weird. The plot was...super out there and flimsy. But it was a lot of fun, Maya was great, Espella and Eve are MAXIMUM GIRLFRIENDS and also good in general, as were some of the minor characters. I’m glad I played it. NOW IT’S TIME FOR THE SPECIAL EPISODES. Or will be whenever I can connect my 3ds to the internet.
