Jayashree Perumal will become the first graduate in her family once she completes the course.

CHENNAI: In a first, two government students from Tamil Nadu, one of them is a daughter of daily-wage labourers, have been selected to pursue undergraduate degrees in Taiwan with full scholarship offered by the East Asian country. While Jayashree Perumal of Pannandur village in Krishnagiri will study mechanical engineering, Avalsindu G Jeyalakshmi of Chennai plans to pursue a course in international business.

Jayashree Perumal will become the first graduate in her family once she completes the course. Her parents work as casual labourers in Pannandur village and she completed her Class 10 at the local government high school. “After completing Class 10, I moved to a government higher secondary school in Krishnagiri four to five km away. I scored 576 out of 600 in Class 12 in March 2022. Since I wanted to clear Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), I convinced my parents that I would take a break to prepare for JEE. I received coaching at the Centre for Excellence in Saidapet and I got a seat at NIT-Nagpur,” Jayashree said.

‘Free tuition, monthly allowance for expenses’

I learned about scholarships being offered by various countries through the Nan Mudhalvan Scheme and applied for them. “We were also trained to go through the interview process and write a statement of purpose to get the scholarship while we were at the Centre of Excellence,” she said. Jayashree said she would want to contribute to improving agricultural technology after completing her course. “Even though our family doesn’t have farmland, I grew up surrounded by them. I aim to contribute to the advancement of agricultural technology after I graduate,” she said.

Sources said, around 20 students from government schools across the state applied for the scholarship. “We are planning to raise awareness about scholarships offered by various countries. We have already encouraged students to apply to countries including Hungary, Japan, Canada, and South Korea this year.

More students will apply for these scholarships from next year,” said a trainer who assisted with the process. Apart from evaluating the academic performance of students, Taiwan officials, through an interview process, also assessed the ability of students to integrate culturally since they are moving to another country at a young age.

“Of the 120 students who have been awarded scholarships to pursue UG, PG, PhD and other programmes, only three are UG students. The officials also test students’ knowledge about the country and the course they are pursuing. Many countries offer such scholarships so that their firms in India could employ people who are familiar with both countries.

While the tuition fee is free, students will also get a monthly allowance to cover their other expenses,” he said. A Valsindu G Jeyalakshmi, who studied Class 12 at the Centre of Excellence in Saidapet, said. “I scored 524 marks out of 600 in commerce group. I am excited to pursue a degree abroad and looking forward to it.”

Salford University is a public university in the United Kingdom. It boasts a great 125-year history of progress. History

The University of Salford in the United Kingdom is made up of two institutes. There was a desire for new industrial skills in the late eighteenth century. Pendleton Mechanics Institute 1850 was founded as a result. After eight years, the Salford Working Men's was established. The Duke and Duchess of York united the two institutes in 1896. The Royal Technical Institute of Salford was thereafter established.

According to later history,

The Royal Technical Institute, Salford changed its name to Royal Technical College, Salford in 1921.

In 1958, the college was split into two groups. The Royal College of Advanced Technology and Peel Park Technical College are the two institutions. Peel Park Technical College was renamed three more times after that.

The University of Salford was founded in 1967, when the Royal College of Advanced Technology was renamed the University of Salford.

In 1996, the University College Salford and the University of Salford merged to form the University of Salford. It is now known as the University of Salford.

To make campus life easier Salford Student Union puts forth a tremendous amount of work. Students enjoy coming to SU to learn. Living Accommodation:

Finding safe and well-equipped housing is critical for students at any level. Salford recognises this and provides world-class lodging options. Campus Living Villages is a university of Salford accommodation partner (CLV). CLV offers two types of housing:

This is an option for any undergraduate or graduate student. Peel Park Quarter is only a few minutes away from classrooms. Security, a gym, a social space, a cinema room, and bike storage are all available. There are six distinct sorts of rooms for different budget students.

Transport

Students can travel between Peel Park campus and MediaCityUK for free on the 50 bus. Students can purchase season tickets for any means of transportation.
