Today in Christian History
Today is Tuesday, July 23rd, 2024. It is the 205th day of the year in the Gregorian calendar; Because it is a leap year, 161 days remain until the end of the year.
1584: Death in London of John Day, the foremost English printer of the Elizabethan era. He had introduced Roman type to replace Gothic fonts. Because he had printed devotional books for the Reformation, and continued to print Protestant books after the accession of Mary Tudor, he was imprisoned and then exiled. When Protestants regained power under Elizabeth, he returned and printed John Foxe’s Actes and Monuments (Book of Martyrs).
1702: The Camisards (pictured above), French Protestants of Languedoc, break into open revolt when they hear a rumor that a priest at Pont de Montvert intends to execute some of his Camisard prisoners, whom he has held and tortured. They burn his house, kill him, and liberate the prisoners. This begins a savage war that leads to their extermination.
1843: Baptism in Calcutta of Bengali convert Lal Bihari Day, who will become an ordained pastor, missionary, and educator. He will author Bengal Peasant Life (a novel) and Bengali Folk Tales.
1957: Nigerian church planter Joseph Adeyemo Taiwo is honored with the title of chieftan. Through his zealous efforts, he enlarged the Baptist presence in Nigeria.
1993: Death of Demos Shakarian in Costa Mesa, California. Of Armenian origin, he had founded the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International.

A GREAT FIT
It is safe to say that God brought us to a place that is a good fit for our team! We have felt so welcome, and we have had some great opportunities already. Connections have been made and our prayer is that they will continue to grow as the week moves on. Will you pray along with us? Yes........I MEAN YOU!!
We got to the park this morning to set up for camp and I had to run down the street to get some ice. When I left, no campers had arrived yet. When I came back, the area was packed with kids getting signed up. We ended up with 17 campers! They all had a blast! They had energy right off the bat and really enjoyed their time. After camp was over, the kids were smiling and hugging us and asking when we'd see them again. It was amazing.
The other blessing about camp today was that a bunch of the moms and grandmothers hung out and watched the kids play and had some great fellowship with each other. A few dads were in and out too. Pastor Fred stuck around and it was cool to see that he is well respected here and loves to connect.
We also received a great surprise visit as Sports Camp was wrapping up. Pastor Joe and Jenny Murrell stopped by! They were on their way to see their son Josh and his family in Salem and Jenny texted me while they were in the road. I told her the name of the park and they showed up about 45 minutes later. It was a great visit, we love them so much!
I've also noticed there's actually a pretty cool network going on here between some of the churches in the area. The events we're doing this week are in a neighboring town of Azalea called Glendale. There are a couple churches in Glendale that Pastor Fred knows pretty well. He's been plugging our events to these other churches. Fred mentioned that he desires what is best for the Kingdom of God this week, and that may not mean that everyone we come into contact with will end up going to Azalea Community Church. He picked Glendale Park because it was a central location with a lot of kids and teens. It is also a town with great need for the gospel. It's great to see that kind of unity in God's people from different congregations!
BARF Night was also amazing and full of energy tonight! The pastor and youth pastor from the Baptist Church in Glendale showed up tonight with their families and it was obvious that they are connected to the local teens. We did a little canvassing before our event and a few guys we passed out fliers to ended up coming.
The games were great and pretty intense at times - in a good way. We also had a few little kids that we had to dodge while playing. We aren't really strict on the ages for Mission Venture BARF Nights and it can get a little scary when the older kids are flying all over the place. Please pray for safety!
I'm not sure how many showed up to BARF but it was probably about as many as came to Sports Camp. One teen said that he is going to invite his whole track team tomorrow. A couple others said they will spread the word too! We're looking forward to a bigger crowd tomorrow.
My lovely daughter Ellie shared her testimony tonight and she did an excellent job. It's crazy to think that she is on her last Mission Venture as a student. I'm super proud of her and she's been a great leader on this trip. She really brings the energy and loves all her "besties" here on the team.
Right now all the Pine Valley students are sitting around chatting in the sanctuary with Maci and Axel. They're having a blast sharing some stories of some embarrassing experiences in their lives. They are quite the unified team!
We would love for you to pray for great opportunities for gospel conversations this week. Some locals have shared with us about the sad situations that many of the kids in Glendale are experiencing in their lives right now. It's all pretty heartbreaking. Pray that these teens that are coming to BARF Night will commit to Jesus! Our team is looking for chances to go deeper with these kids, and are confident that God will provide!
Thanks so much everyone!!

Jimmy Dale “J.D.” Herchenhahn entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior whom he so earnestly loved and served Thursday morning May 11, 2023 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice LifeCare Center. Some people called him Dr. Herchenhahn, many others knew him as Pastor, but to us he was forever our precious Dad and Papa. His faith has become sight, and we believe he heard a big “Well done, good and faithful servant” when he entered heaven’s gates!
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 54 years, Jean Herchenhahn; his parents, A.B. and Iva Herchenhahn, two brothers, Allen Herchenhahn and Fred Herchenhahn; and five sisters, Lucille Jones, Jean Brunson, Gayle Mattheiss, Dawn Gunderson, and Louise Bates.
Jim loved his family dearly and will be most missed by his three children, Janna (Jeff) Attoe of Hampstead, Jay (Gina) Herchenhahn of Lancaster, SC, and Joy (Brad) Barth of Kernersville, NC; grandchildren Jensen (Ray) Rivera, Jonah Attoe, Jayse Attoe, Kalli Herchenhahn, Kassi Herchenhahn, Khloe Herchenhahn, Caleb Herchenhahn, Cooper Barth, Colton Barth, and Copley Barth; great-grandchildren, Vincent and Halston Rivera; two sisters, Wilma Jones and Judy Ray; many nieces and nephews. Janna, Jay and Joy would like to thank Steve and Joanna Groves, David Groves, and Tom Hayden for faithfully and lovingly caring for our dad. We would also like to acknowledge and thank David and Cathy Lane, Edna Lancaster, Mark and Nancy Cramer, and Jimmy Sibbett for loving our dad and being the hands and feet of Jesus in dads time of need.
Jimmy Dale was born April 25, 1941 in Macedonia, Mississippi. During his junior year of high school in Pensacola, Florida, he received Christ as his Savior under the ministry of Dr. Dolphus Price. As a senior, he surrendered to preach the Gospel. He attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina before serving two years with the United States Army. He was a Vietnam Veteran.
Jim finished his college education at Tennessee Temple College in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was involved in many aspects of college life including playing on the baseball team and serving as student body President. It was there that he met and married his sweetheart. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1968. He pastored the Fellowship Baptist Church in Trion, Georgia for three and a half years during his tenure at TTC and afterwards. Then in 1970, the Lord called the Herchenhahns to Wilmington to work at Grace Baptist Church—first as Assistant Pastor under Dr. Ray Noland, and then starting in 1971 as Senior Pastor of Grace and President of Wilmington Christian Academy.
The Lord used Pastor Herchenhahn in a great way during his thirty-six years in leadership of the church and school. Hundreds of people came to know the Lord under his ministry, and many others grew in their faith. A number of men and women were called to various areas of “full-time Christian service” under his leadership. Many missionaries, pastors, teachers, and others are still serving the Lord around the world.
He retired from Grace at the end of December 2006. That freed them up to do some short-term mission work in Guam. After that he began filling pulpits for preachers in and around the Wilmington area. That ministry led them to Riley’s Creek Baptist Church in 2010, where he was called to be their Senior Pastor. He retired from Riley’s Creek in 2021 for the primary purpose of taking care of his beloved wife and soulmate who was declining in health. He wanted to spend as much time with her as he possibly could, and that he did.
Only eternity will reveal the impact of the life and ministry of Pastor J.D. Herchenhahn. He was an exemplary pastor, faithfully preaching the Word and sharing the gospel, as well as humbly serving and caring for people. He often quoted these lines from a poem: “Others, Lord, yes, others, let this my motto be, “help me to live for others, that I may live like Thee.” He certainly reflected Jesus through his life.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Grace Baptist Church, 1401 North College Road, Wilmington, with a memorial service honoring Pastor Herchenhahn will be immediately following. Close family friend and co-laborer Rev. Mike Meshaw will officiate along with Rev. David Lancaster and Rev. Jay Knolls.. There will be a graveside service at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at Oleander Memorial Gardens. with Rev. Brian Beaver conducting the service.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Foundation, 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401. We will be forever grateful for their gentle care and compassion given to our dad.
Online condolences may be made by selecting Tribute Wall.

Punjabi - Bhagat are secular family men Gurmikh Sikh and Sants are Roving Preachers of the Gospel Truth. https://youtu.be/AyPlqKxK-nE Luke 8v4 While a large crowd was gathering and people were coming to Jesus from town after town, he told this parable: 5 “A farmer (God) went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path - BAEMUKH SIKHS - SOCHIAN SOCH NAA HOWEE; JAE SOCHI LAKH VAAR; it was trampled on as in the Universities and College, they teach the dead letters of the Scriptures, and the birds (Sensible people of the holy spirit) ate it up. 6 Some fell on rocky ground - MUNNMUKH like Juda Iscariot and greedy Khatris , and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture (Faith). 7 Other seed fell among thorns - GURMUKH SIKHS FAMILY MEN, which grew up with it and choked the plants - FAMILY AFFAIRS. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil - SADHUS - SANTS. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.” Punjabi - The Gospel Truth = Logo is damn easy if you have a Round Table Fellowship and use common sense = SURTI. https://youtu.be/4zjW5yBdDX4 English:- https://youtu.be/YSy1e0cSBNY Full description on my website:- www.gnosticgospel.co.uk/DamnEasy.htm LET US JOIN HANDS TOGETHER TO LEARN AND PREACH THE GOSPEL TRUTH FROM THE ROOFTOPS CALLED “DRINKING THE BLOOD OF CHRIST” FOR ETERNAL LIFES. GOSPEL IS DAMN EASY IF YOU CAN THINK LOGICALLY AND NOT GO BY WHAT THIS MAN OR THAT MAN SAYS. GOD WITHIN US IS OUR TEACHER AND HE IS WORSHIPPED IN TRUTH AS PETER SPOKE AND SPIRIT AS CHRIST JESUS DELIVERED. The time of the Scriptures has gone with the Prophets when the Rabbis were not greedy and crooks. John, the Baptist was the Last Prophet Elijah, my god is Demiurge Potter Yahweh, the creator of pots, the natural world that you can see with your two naked natural eyes but the crook Temple Priests become greedy putting on silken clothes as you can see the Russian Priests in the Churches putting on very expensive Golden Dresses at the cost of the poor people who donate money and pay them for their upkeep; cars, houses, money, etc., the “hireling” Dog-Collared Priests working for Mammon and not for the Mammon-Free God as the Apostles left everything for the Royal Kingdom of God Elohim, Allah, Parbrahm etc., they are the worst form of the sons of Satan that create dangerous sectarian riots – Luke 16v16; Law and Prophets were till John, the Baptist. Afterwards, our Royal Father sends His Own Son, the Anointed Royal Priest, the Christ to OPEN THE LOW FOR the HUMBLE THAT WERE TREAD OVER BY THE GREEDY PRIESTS AND THE NARROW GATE FOR THE PREDESTINED ROYAL PRIESTS, THE ROVING APOSTLES WHO ARE ADVISED NOT TO TAKE ANY MONEY IN THEIR POCKETS, NO TWO TUNICS AND NO SCRIPTURES AS OUR COVENANT WITH OUR FATHER IS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, WHICH IS COMMON SENSE THAT THE HIRELING University Professors dead in the Letters do not possess but the illiterate shepherds and farmers who earnestly keep God in their hearts do. That is why the Good News of the Birth of Jesus was broken by the Angels, Perfect in the moral laws to the illiterate shepherds and farmers and not to the staunch enemy of the holy spirit, the University Professors. Here is a Proof of it:- Why was Jesus given the name "Yahshua"? Jesus' Hebrew name "Yahshua" is made up of two words; Yah = Yahweh and Shua = Shiva = Primordial Adam. Thus, Mary was “sired” by Yahweh in Hebrew, Brahma in Hindi and Khudah in Arabic, the lord of the visible creation and our demiurge Father in Heaven of the tribal sons, whom you can see in his creation with two naked eyes, and He looks after his faithful tribal sons. Angel John, the Baptist, Prophet Elijah (my God is Yahweh, Brahma, Khudah, etc., the heavenly father of Jesus) Baptized Jesus in the name of his heavenly father “Yahweh,” and the repentant Jewish men of age in their tribal forefather Abraham. Thus, Mary was a Surrogate Mother and Joseph from the tribe of Judah through the line of King David, his adoptive father. This is the first proof of the Virgin Birth of Jesus. And Jesus being not of the first Adam, he had no territorial or landed property even to rest his head. He was the Anointed “Mustard Seed”, who spread his branches (Fellowships and not these Churches, the Synagogues of Satan led by these hireling Dog-Collared Priests created by the Messianic Jews, the Legacy of the sacked Temple Priests, the Husbandmen of the Winepress that was destroyed forever in 70 A.D.) all over the world for as sensible people as the birds of the air that have very powerful sensory organs or the discerning intellect to gather the material for the forebrain to analyse it through logical reasoning to brew “Logo”, which is His Word and His Word is God Elohim, Allah, ParBrahm , etc. that Jesus proved by rendering the Curtain of the Holiest of the Holy Temple of Elohim, Allah, ParBrahm, etc., our Supernatural “invisible” Father of our sup........

The Bible Study –
Our readings for Friday, Jan. 5 are Isaiah 65:8-25 & Luke 3:1-20.
The prophet Isaiah powerfully states God’s Word of judgment and salvation.
The Almighty will eternally punish those who won’t listen and reject His salvation in Christ.
There is both a present and future spiritual restoration for Christians.
By God’s grace, through faith in Christ, believers now receive the salvation of their souls and the blessings of the Christian life, including hope and peace.
In Revelation, Chapter 21, the Apostle John will speak of “a new heaven and a new earth,” the paradise of eternal life, and full spiritual and physical restoration in Heaven.
Martin Luther would write, Christians are a ‘now and not yet people.’
In our passage from Luke, John the Baptist prepares the way for the Messiah.
John is preaching Law before the coming Gospel of Christ.
John offered a baptism of repentance for sin.
God’s Law shows us our sins, our desperate need of redemption.
The Gospel shows us our Saviour, Jesus.
God Himself instituted Baptism, for our Lord Jesus commanded His Church to Baptize all nations, all people: adults, children, infants. (Matthew 28:19; Luke 18:15-17; Acts 2:38-39)
In this Baptism, God, the Holy Trinity, receives us into communion, into fellowship with Himself.
Baptism works forgiveness of sins, rescues from death and the devil, and gives eternal salvation to all who believe this, as the words and promises of God declare.
Baptism is a means of grace. This is God’s work, not our own (Titus 3:5-8).
Baptism is a Sacrament, an earthly element, water, included in God’s command and combined with God’s Word.
There is no other God-given Baptism today beside the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. (Ephesians 4:5)
Matthew 3:11 speaks of baptizing “with water” and also “with the Holy Spirit and with fire.”
The difference here is not between Sacramental Baptism and some sort of “Spirit Baptism,” but between the preparatory mission and baptism of repentance of John, and the full permanent mission and Baptism of Jesus.
John the Baptist pointed forward to the redemptive work of Christ our Saviour.
The Bible teaches that the Holy Spirit gives gifts to His Church.
The Spirit, through the Word and Sacrament, freely gives all Christians the most precious gifts: faith in Christ, the forgiveness of sins, and eternal life.
In Apostolic times the Holy Spirit also gave some Christians the gift to perform miraculous signs and wonders, for example, healings and raising the dead.
The Bible does not teach, however, that God will necessarily give all Christians in every time and place special miraculous abilities.
The Spirit bestows His blessings according to His good pleasure.
Today, some denominations that have fallen away from the Bible, term themselves “charismatic.”
However, the Greek word, “charisma,” simply means “gift,” and refers, for example, to Christ’s whole work of salvation (Romans 5:15-16) and to eternal life (Romans 6:23).
Even the Apostle Paul warned against misapplying ‘speaking in tongues’ in Church (1st Corinthians 14:1-25).
According to Paul, no one ought to speak in tongues in the Church unless there be at least two or three interpreters (1 Corinthians 14:27). If there is no one to interpret, the tongues ought not ensue.
God, however, doesn’t reveal Himself through individual ecstatic experiences, but through His Word, the Bible. That is how faith is worked in our hearts through the Holy Spirit (Romans 10:17).
It’s very significant that in the Lord’s sending out of His disciples upon His ascension (Matthew 28:18-20; Luke 24:46-48; Acts 1:8), no mention is made of miraculous healings, speaking in tongues, and the like.
What is mentioned is preaching, the witnessing of the Apostles concerning the death and resurrection of Jesus for the remission of sins (Luke 24).
The Holy Spirit, by the Gospel, keeps us in the true faith (Philippians 1:6).
The Spirit also calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the whole Christian Church on earth, and keeps believers in the Body of Christ (Ephesians 3:6).

Talia Daniels Releases New Single “All We Need”
“All We Need,” a new single from S.C.-based worship leader Talia Daniels is being released to Christian AC and Gospel-formatted radio outlets today. A video for the praise song, which was written by Daniels and produced by Wade Starns at Gat3, is available at YouTube. “All We Need” follows Daniels’ debut single, “Have Your Way,” which topped the CRC Weekly chart at No. 1 in its first week, followed by charting at No. 2 at CRC Monthly and No. 5 at CRC Quarterly.
After struggling through an abusive marriage, Daniels found herself a single mother after relocating from Brooklyn, N.Y., to Gaffney, S.C. Though God led her to a life-changing church family, Daniels says she lamented her loneliness and missing out on a loving marriage. After surrendering her life situation to God, she met her future husband during a random stop by a post office. “Not only had God heard my cry, but He fulfilled my desire even better then I every could,” says Daniels. “God sent an encourager, a protector and a listener. I now have a house full of joy and laughter.” Daniels, who was born in Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies, and grew up in New York, was raised in a home where the Word of God and fellowship were the focal point of daily living. Her family’s love of music and encouragement fostered Daniels’ dream of being a songwriter and singer. Daniels has been trained in and performed numerous genres of music, including contemporary Christian, gospel, jazz and opera. Talia Daniels - All We Need https://youtu.be/TLBWu6zgePk For the past 10 years, Daniels has served as the contemporary worship leader at First Baptist Church Gaffney in Gaffney, S.C. “I pray that the music I write and perform will make a lasting mark on all who hear it,” says Daniels. Daniels signed with McLaughlin Music Group for management in August 2022. Read the full article

Dear Friends,
Our gospel lesson for this Sunday morning describes Jesus' response to the horrific news that John the Baptist had been arrested (Mark 1:14, 1:29-39). John was arrested and later executed because he insisted that the governor was not above the law.
How did Jesus respond to the distressing news that John was arrested?
Jesus responded by healing the sick, casting out demons and praying. He told his disciples that he was going to continue what he was sent to do: to announce by words and deed that the kingdom of God was coming near and everyone should believe this good news!
In other words, Jesus remained optimistic in spite of the bad news and Jesus did not despair.
Both of our historic congregations, First Christian Bertram and Mahomet Christian have suffered extraordinary loss and change. First Christian Bertram voted to close and an arsonist burned down the Mahomet church facility.
But rather than being overwhelmed with loss and despair, we are called to follow Jesus and continue to believe and proclaim the good news that the Kingdom of God is drawing near.
The Bertram congregation voted to give the proceeds all church assets to build a chapel at the Christian Camp in Gonzales. The Mahomet congregation is actively exploring ways to re-gather and move ahead.
During this time of transition, I will share meditations and prayers by email and online at www.mahometchristian.net. Should you wish to receive an occasional email with meditations and prayers please send me your email address. Our email address is [email protected].
One driving force that lead to the execution of Jesus was his call for unity. Many people in the first century fueled divisions and various types of segregation, abuse and violence. Jesus called his followers to welcome all people into loving fellowship and that sacred call remains our task today in our deeply divided society.
Here is a prayer so appropriate for our times:
O God,
you created all people in your image.
We thank you for the astonishing variety
of races and cultures in this world.
Enrich our lives by ever-widening circles of friendship,
and show us your presence in those who differ most from us,
until the knowledge of your love is made perfect
in our love for all of your children,
through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
(from The Book of Common Worship, Westminster Press, 1993, p. 796)
Our opportunity is to remain connected and serve as we experience the Good News (Gospel) that God’s Kingdom of peace and love is here and it will grow stronger.
May God bless and keep you!
John
Texts for February 7, 2020 The Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time
First Reading Isaiah 40:21-31 21 Have you not known? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth? 22 It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to live in; 23 who brings princes to naught, and makes the rulers of the earth as nothing. 24 Scarcely are they planted, scarcely sown, scarcely has their stem taken root in the earth, when he blows upon them, and they wither, and the tempest carries them off like stubble. 25 To whom then will you compare me, or who is my equal? says the Holy One. 26 Lift up your eyes on high and see: Who created these? He who brings out their host and numbers them, calling them all by name; because he is great in strength, mighty in power, not one is missing. 27 Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the LORD, and my right is disregarded by my God”? 28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. 29 He gives power to the faint, and strengthens the powerless. 30 Even youths will faint and be weary,
and the young will fall exhausted; 31 but those who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.
Psalm 147:1-11, 20c 1 Praise the Lord! How good it is to sing praises to our God; for he is gracious, and a song of praise is fitting. 2 The Lord builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the outcasts of Israel. 3 He heals the brokenhearted, and binds up their wounds. 4 He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names. 5 Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure. 6 The Lord lifts up the downtrodden; he casts the wicked to the ground. 7 Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving; make melody to our God on the lyre. 8 He covers the heavens with clouds, prepares rain for the earth, makes grass grow on the hills. 9 He gives to the animals their food, and to the young ravens when they cry. 10 His delight is not in the strength of the horse, nor his pleasure in the speed of a runner; 11 but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love. 20c Praise the Lord!
Second Reading 1 Corinthians 9:16-23 16If I proclaim the gospel, this gives me no ground for boasting, for an obligation is laid on me, and woe to me if I do not proclaim the gospel! 17For if I do this of my own will, I have a reward; but if not of my own will, I am entrusted with a commission. 18What then is my reward? Just this: that in my proclamation I may make the gospel free of charge, so as not to make full use of my rights in the gospel. 19For though I am free with respect to all, I have made myself a slave to all, so that I might win more of them. 20To the Jews I became as a Jew, in order to win Jews. To those under the law I became as one under the law (though I myself am not under the law) so that I might win those under the law. 21To those outside the law I became as one outside the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law) so that I might win those outside the law. 22To the weak I became weak, so that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that I might by all means save some. 23I do it all for the sake of the gospel, so that I may share in its blessings
Gospel Mark 1:29-39 29As soon as they left the synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 30Now Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they told him about her at once. 31He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up. Then the fever left her, and she began to serve them. 32That evening, at sundown, they brought to him all who were sick or possessed with demons. 33And the whole city was gathered around the door. 34And he cured many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him.
35In the morning, while it was still very dark, he got up and went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed. 36And Simon and his companions hunted for him.
37When they found him, they said to him, “Everyone is searching for you.” 38He answered, “Let us go on to the neighboring towns, so that I may proclaim the message there also; for that is what I came out to do.”
39And he went throughout Galilee, proclaiming the message in their synagogues and casting out demons.

Today in Christian History
Today is Tuesday, December 26th, the 360th day of 2019. There are 5 days left in the year.
Today’s Highlight in History:
1790: Ordination of Sattyanadan Pillai (also spelled Satyanathan), the first Tamil missionary of the Lutheran Church in India. Sattyanadan will serve as pastor-teacher in Tirunelveli and will be one of the leaders in a movement of mass conversion of Indians to Christianity.
1830: Death in Dingapore, India, of Baptist pastor Ignatius Fernandez, the first indigenous Indian pastor of that town, who had established a paper plant to provide work for the support of the local congregation.
1912: MacKay Memorial Hospital is established in Taipei in honor of Presbyterian missionary George Leslie Mackay, founder of a clinic which became the basis of the hospital. It will develop into one of the largest medical centers in Taiwan, and will retain deep Presbyterian roots.
1937: Bolsheviks shoot Isaac the Younger, a “holy father” of the Russian Orthodox Church associated with the teachings of the former Optina Monastery eighty miles north of Moscow.
1948: Hungarian authorities arrest Cardinal Josef Mindszenty, an outspoken critic of communism. Fearful that he will break under torture, he scribbles a note to his mother: “I have taken no part in any conspiracy of any kind. I shall not resign from my episcopal see. I shall not make a confession. But if despite what I now say you should read that I have confessed or resigned, and even see it authenticated by my signature, bear in mind that it will have been only the result of human frailty. In advance, I declare all such actions null and void.” He will spend eight years in prison and fifteen more in asylum in the United States embassy.
1952: Demos Shakarian, founder of the Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship International, sees so little success that he announces the meeting of this date will be the last. However, he has a vision the night before of dead men in chains coming to life and this changes his mind. From that day things change and the fellowship grows into a huge international movement with over one thousand chapters world wide and results in the conversion of hundreds of thousands of people.
1968: Death in Oregon of historian Kenneth Scott Latourette. His most famous book was his seven-volume History of the Expansion of Christianity.
1994: Nigerian Christians falsely accused of defecating on a Koran are dragged out of jail and beheaded by a mob.
2004: A tsunami from a strong earthquake devastates towns along India’s eastern shore that have large Christian populations.

Archive.org stores this capture from Chuck Phelp’s bio from Colonial Hills Baptist from 2010.
Chuck and Linda, along with their children, are committed to the work of the ministry. They love to see the Lord change lives through the power of the Word (John 17:17). For that reason, they serve the church with dedication and eagerly minister at family camps, couples’ conferences, pastors' retreats, and other retreats for men and ladies. Chuck has been involved in full-time ministry since 1982. Since earning his doctoral degree fifteen years ago, Chuck has actively engaged in teaching a future generation on the college and seminary level. He has worked in numerous schools in the United States and on foreign fields as diverse as Belarus, India, Cambodia, Zambia, and Mexico. He especially enjoys teaching pastoral ethics, church management, church growth, and discipleship. Chuck's favorite doctrinal studies are ecclesiology (the doctrine of the church) and eschatology (the doctrine of biblical prophecy). Chuck serves on many advisory boards including those of Baptist World Mission, Central Africa Baptist College (Zambia), Fundamental Baptist Fellowship International, Gospel Fellowship Association, and the Wilds Christian Camping Association. Chuck and Linda Phelps love to work around the house, entertain, and spend time with their kids and grandkids. Linda enjoys working with moms and mentoring ladies. With five kids of their own (ranging in age from midtwenties to teens), Chuck and Linda have "been there and done that" and learned from more than a few mistakes (some comical and some serious). Though Pastor and Mrs. Phelps have been at Colonial for only a brief time, they have already come to love the generous congregation of gracious Christians. They count it a sincere privilege to follow the faithful ministries of pastors Wendell Heller and Bob Taylor.
Phelps was on the WILDS board on December 5, 2011. But he was NOT on the board on December 13, 2011. Do Right BJU changed that.

Martha Nichols, 78
Martha Marler Nichols, 78, died Sunday morning at Mountain Valley Hospice in Yadkinville, NC, January 19 of cancer, surrounded by her family. She was a beloved wife, mother, aunt, cousin, grandmother and friend. Martha was born and grew up in Winston-Salem, NC the daughter of Ralph H. Marler and Jeanne Lalance Marler, a member of First Presbyterian Church, attended RJ Reynolds High School, and then Converse College in Spartanburg, SC. She married James P. Barksdale, JR of Rocky Mount, NC, a Presbyterian minister in 1962 and lived in Kannapolis, NC, Charlotte, NC, and North Wilkesboro, NC with churches that he was called to serve. After his death in 1981, Martha married Ward H. Nichols, a renowned artist and returned to live in North Wilkesboro, NC.
From the beginning of her adult life as a Presbyterian minister's wife, Martha was a devoted supporter of her husband and his career, but she also had outside interests and took art and history courses while in Charlotte and North Wilkesboro. An artist herself, she taught watercolor and drawing classes at Wilkes Community College, volunteered at the Wilkes Art Gallery and became the gallery's director in 1976. Following this work, Martha served as the Director of ExperienceWorks, the Director of Retired Senior Volunteers Program, a Commissioned Realtor with Caldwell Banker and Apple Realty, and lastly as the Marketing Director of Rose Glen Manor, the organization from which she retired.
When Martha's mother died, she became a consummate gardener to work through her grief and before limitations in her mobility, had over 200 roses in her garden, was an award-winning master rosarian and was a member of the Winston-Salem Rose Society and American Rose Society. Valentine's Day would signify the delivery of her roses to many friends and loved ones throughout Wilkes, Caldwell, and Forsyth Counties. Also inspired by her mother's lifelong hobby of quilting, Martha became more than an avid quilter, making over 50 quilts and prayer blankets, most of which she gave to friends in celebration of a joyous occasion, or to friends who faced serious or terminal illnesses.
In fact, Martha sought out people who were experiencing terminal illness, becoming their friend and counselor, and providing whatever comfort she could give. In 1980 when her first husband was diagnosed with cancer, Martha created what she called a home-grown hospice program since hospice was not yet widely available. This led to her contributions towards hospice in Wilkes County, culminating in 1984, first with a speech and presentation to a group of clergy from western NC and subsequently to another group of oncologists in the area. She became well known for her lecture, "The Impact of Cancer on the Family Unit: Psychological and Theological Emphasis" and sharing her experiences were instructive in enhancing their understanding.
The arts helped bring Martha and Ward together, and Martha's life with Ward provided another ongoing connection to the arts. Ward claims that Martha was his biggest advocate and supporter, often naming his paintings and providing constructive feedback. She also managed the business affairs of his work, helping to organize most of his shows and always serving as a consummate host to out of town guests and collectors. They were married for more than 35 years, and their lives included an international trip almost every year and to every state in the continental US. Ward and Martha were members of North Wilkesboro Presbyterian Church and attended regularly, and Martha served as an Elder and on the membership and personnel committees. Martha's involvement in the community was extensive, and she was particularly proud of Vision2020, a long-range planning effort in Wilkes County during the 1990's. Ward and Martha also frequently visited Charleston, SC, West Virginia and Isle of Palms, where Martha's children would join them for a week at the beach.
While Martha had a full career and many interests and hobbies, she would claim her most important accomplishment was her family, with her first husband, Jim Barksdale and their three children, and then her marriage with Ward Nichols, which coincided in time with the arrival of her four grandchildren. Martha created an intimate family whose members have always deeply supported each other, teaching them how to love and to cherish, particularly during difficult times. Her values were very clear, she was a fervent advocate for the underprivileged, and donated her time and money to the homeless and the poor. Several causes stand out; she created the Ralph H. Marler, JR Award for the Wilkes Art Gallery in memory of her brother, and the Katie Fund for the Wilkes Animal Hospital in memory of her beloved cocker spaniel.
In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. James P Barksdale, JR and her brother, Ralph H Marler, JR. She is survived by her husband, Ward H Nichols; and her three children, James P Barksdale III, Elisabeth S Barksdale (Laura E Clay), and grandson, Kip H Barksdale, John M Barksdale (Katina M Barksdale), and grandchildren, Ellis A Barksdale, Finn P Barksdale, and Catherine M Barksdale.
A memorial service will be held on February 1 at 2:00pm, at the North Wilkesboro Presbyterian Church, with a celebration of life to immediately follow in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to any shelter for the homeless, or to one of the funds inspired by Martha.

Punjabi - The Gospel Truth = Shabd, you get directly from God if you know Satgur = FORMULA = logical reasoning. https://youtu.be/0-1QwtPRObA Punjabi - The Gospel Truth = Logo is damn easy if you have a Round Table Fellowship and use common sense = SURTI. https://youtu.be/4zjW5yBdDX4 English:- https://youtu.be/YSy1e0cSBNY Full description on my website:- www.gnosticgospel.co.uk/DamnEasy.htm LET US JOIN HANDS TOGETHER TO LEARN AND PREACH THE GOSPEL TRUTH FROM THE ROOFTOPS CALLED “DRINKING THE BLOOD OF CHRIST” FOR ETERNAL LIFES. He was the Anointed “Mustard Seed”, who spread his branches (Fellowships and not these Churches, the Synagogues of Satan led by these hireling Dog-Collared Priests created by the Messianic Jews, the Legacy of the sacked Temple Priests, the Husbandmen of the Winepress that was destroyed forever in 70 A.D.) all over the world for as sensible people as the birds of the air that have very powerful sensory organs or the discerning intellect to gather the material for the forebrain to analyse it through logical reasoning to brew “Logo”, which is His Word and His Word is God Elohim, Allah, ParBrahm , etc. that Jesus proved by rendering the Curtain of the Holiest of the Holy Temple of Elohim, Allah, ParBrahm, etc., our Supernatural “invisible” Father of our supernatural “soul”, the Source of the “Oral Torah” without which the visible Scriptures cannot stand TRUE. The Samaritan, the generation of Joseph to whom Jacob gave his own Plot for being truthful and “Salt” of Abraham to whom the crook liars – John 8v44 – wanted to kill but sold him as a slave to the faithful sons of Abraham who honoured him highly and made him the Prime Minister of their Kingdom. The crook Temple Priests still hated the Samaritans who showed their Salt by picking the wounded person in Agape and looking after him against the “RACISTS” Pharisees and Sadducees in “Eros” passed by. So, the Real Fold of Christ Jesus was of the Samaritans and Gentiles and Him and John, the Baptist tried their best to retrieve them from the “other fold” of the sons of Satan Al-Djmar Al-Aksa unfaithful to Abraham and Yahweh, the “Saltless” people good not even for the Manure Heap, they Maltreated Prophet
