Romance This one is easy: Maid-sama I admit to not having read this in literal years so I honestly can't say if this would still be true if I reread it but Maid-sama is what really got me into anime and manga. It was one of the first animes I watched (I remember watching a german fandub of scenes on youtube... that were the days) and it's the only manga which I have all volumes of (though i think they made a sequel? i don't have that because I honestly didn't see the need to buy it). It will always be important to me even though I really don't have that strong of an urge to read it again.

Shounen Okay. So I like shounen a lot. And I know I always yap about KHR on here but it's not my favourite shounen because that one is One Piece. Which might be basic af but it doesn't change the fact that Oda's story telling and worldbuilding and characters are fucking godtier and I love it so much. The way I read/watch One Piece might be completely fucked up (out of order, skipped arcs just to rewatch them later, constantly switching between manga and anime) but I'm obssessed with it all the same. It has aspects I could do without (aka the fanservice OTL) but everything else is so amazing that I can easily ignore it. As a reader and as a writer I'm constantly in awe of this story and it's one I always come back too even when I took year long breaks from interacting with it.

Comedy I love comedy. I love crack so fucking much it's unreal. The easiest way to get me to read any kind of story is to make it as hilarious as humanly possible. I gobble that shit right up. So my favourite comedy manga is Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun simply because this story never - and I really mean never - fails to make me laugh. It's one of the few mangas were I religiously read the update as soon as it's out since the story format doesn't require me to remember the things that happened in the last chapter. It's also a story that I can reread easy as pie, it's just so funny and endearing and it speaks to my crack loving heart.

Sport Ah yes... Sport anime my beloved. In this category Haikyuu is the winner. I remember always being so hyped everytime the manga updated and rewatching the anime for fun. I also remember it me motivating to actually go outside and play volleyball for a bit (though I'm not really good at it lmaooo) so I would say it had a lot of influence on me. Though... I actually haven't finished reading the manga (I'm a fake fan OTL) I'm still stuck somehwere during the timeskip and at this point I would need to reread that entire arc becuase I remember next to nothing about that match lol.

Captain Squad Petition: idk if you’re a Digimon fan but I am, and I’ve thought abt Haikyuu characters as digidestined for ages now. Anyway, Captain Squad goes on a wilderness trip and gets zapped into the digital world, hijinks and angst ensue.

I feel like Daichi would partner with Terriermon, Daichi’s no nonsense attitude clashing with Terriermon’s easygoing nature. Also regarding if or if not Crests are getting involved in this, Daichi as the Crest of RELIABILITY?! Chefs kiss, that fits him to an italicized T.

Dracmon was MADE for Kuroo they vibe very well. Oikawa I see with a plant based mon like Palmon (Crest of Knowledge go brrrr). If Kita’s involved, I can see Tentomon or Gomamon. The former more than the latter cause Tentomon literally has a Kansai accent in the sub. I have a few ideas for what Bokuto or Ushijima would have, probably your more contemporary creatures like Agumon, Patamon, Gabumon. I could also see an Agumon look alike like Dorumon.

Haven’t thought of much in terms of plot, could follow any of the anime or game plots, could be its own plot. I just love imagining the captains having to deal with superpowered creatures (that may give them superpowers, depending on the continuity) and having said creatures change as symbolism for their characters and how they may develop. Digimon’s cool like that, the Digimon change as a physical representation of the characters growing and developing (honestly that’s one of my favorite parts about that franchise)

i need you to know that this almost had be hyperventilating from excitement. Why? Why you ask? because I was like OBSESSED with Terriermon during my entire digimon hyperfixation a considerable amount of years back (am still actively on the watch for an accurate size plush of him that isnt $2749473829.00) and to see you here, my friend, my love, having bestowed him upon Daichi made me gleeful in a way I cannot comprehend. True delight.

Now i dont have an encyclopedic knowledge of digimon so if I were to write this it would absolutely have to follow the OG anime plot line (transported into a fucked up digital world) rather than the seasons that came later, where terriermon was birthed, where theres a shit ton of government experimentation and weird bullshit going on. OH MY GOD THIS MEANS DAICHI HAS THE GUN RABBIT. I FUCKING LOVE THAT TERRIERMON DIGIVOLVES INTO INCREASINGLY MILITARIZED RABBITS JDKSNFOSKAKEOO

Now I want to write this just so that Daichi and Terriermon can be together I need it.

God I would need to rewatch those entire first seasons to do it properly. Escape from fucked up digiHell. I was OBSESSED with Matt and TK's brother dynamic to an unhealthy degree. Honestly to-date some of my favourite siblings in anime. When they get separate and Matt has a breakdown of his cool guy persona? chefs kiss.

Digimon is vastly underrated, even by me TBH, but I remember YEARS ago I had a digimon fucking boardgame. It was like... my favourite boardgame but i could never convince my family to play it with me because it was complicated as fuck. With all the evil gears and all that.

God and unlike the pokemon au ive been playing with, there's no need to do any complicated worldbuilding bc as per the first seasons of the anime I can just snap them out if canon volleyball land and introduce all the fucked up monsters on the fly. Dont have to rewrite their whole histories.

Me, posting about something OTHER THAN sports anime? It's more likely than you think

Alright, so as I mentioned in my post yesterday, I am ✨ill✨ (seems like I got it from my dad who got it from work because it took half of his office out at the exact same time). We think it's a form of the flu and I have been suffering for five days.

That being said, yesterday after I made my Haikyuu post, I was like "I want to watch something soft and fluffy and that I don't need to put energy into reacting to" so I started rewatching what's become one of my favorite animes, Sasaki and Miyano! (I believe that the manga is called Sasaki to Miyano, but when I found the show it was and instead of to)

And there is a reason why I like this anime. It's cute, it's gay, it's fluffy, it's slowburn with cute moments sprinkled in throughout, all of the characters are cute and sweet (on top of the main romance, the friendships in this show are super nice and I LOVE these little guys, the leads' friends are so supportive of them and I could cry), there's very minimal drama, it's wholesome (unlike some BL animes that high key scare me and that I'm too afraid to watch), the relationship is healthy, the main ship has the most amazing height difference, etc etc etc. I could go on. There are 12 main episodes and a little bonus 13th one and the dub is so funny and sweet! There's also a movie (I'm gonna rewatch that after I post), which, as far as I know, doesn't have a dub, but it's still really enjoyable. I also really enjoy the way this show is animated and how it sounds. The visuals and music are so great. I'm very particular about the animation style of the shows I was (see my mini rant over season 4 Asahi from yesterday), and I REALLY like how this show looks. It's a comfort show, honestly, which is why I chose to binge the whole thing while I'm sick. Grinning through the pain, baby!

I also just realized that Kagiura (a side character who mainly appears in the bonus 13th episode and the movie) has the same English VA as Oikawa! I was sitting there staring at my ceiling because I knew I recogonized it from Haikyuu, and then it fucking hit me and I was like "OH MY GOD IT'S OIKAWA." This was especially noticable when he called another character "meanie" and all I could thing of was him asking Iwa why he was so mean to him. How have his voice lines from this show not been used in an Iwaoi animatic, actually??? Haikyuu fans, get on that shit. (P.S. Kagiura also sort of has a side romance with one of the more active side characters, Hirano, though they don't get together in the show or movie, and as far as I know they haven't gotten together yet in their spin-off manga either. Their moments are hella cute, though, and I wish that I could have more of them!!!)

All this to say that I highly recommend Sasaki and Miyano. More people should watch it. The fanart here on tumblr (and what little I've found on Instagram) is also really cute. I cannot say enough great things about this show and it really is just a cute little feel-good show. Minimal drama and misunderstandings, great communication between the leads, happy ending (lack of a happy ending is why I'm too afraid to watch whatever that swimming anime is despite hearing that it's a great show), and ON SCREEN KISSES (well. One. I think the movie has more? I'll know in a bit).

now listen listen, i also physically recoil when hinata sneaks into the training camp, but can't help to admire the dude for it honestly. not only does he goes uninvited which, sure, fucked up, but he doesn't back up un his decision and he even fucking owns to it despite how embarrassed it obviously makes him.

hinata will make his own opportunities at every chance and he's amazing for it, and bothersome as fuck and yikes seriously dude, but still so great. good for him good for him i could never, to put myself in that scenario it's a circle of my own personal hell.

and the first time i watched this anime i was like,,,, i don't remember his name right now, the old dude, not nekomata god bless him, shiratorizawa's coach. i was like dUDE WHY SO MEAN WITH THE KID, but seeing it now it was, like, very lowkey the best he could do. aND he gave hinata a very needed reality check with that "without that setter you're fucking useful" thing, which, not hundred percent true but closer to the truth that everyone was going to admit to him. we're grateful for that in the long run and i believe it is one of hinata's inflexion points as a character (i don't know if that term is used appropriately but hopefully you'll get what i mean). also he could've shut hinata down completely like he was shut down when he was a kid but he didn't, and that's a little bit remarkable on his own

Currently Reading: In This World of Ultraviolet Light by Raul Palma, which is a collection of short stories that tend toward the skrunkly, the macabre, but are also just incredibly truthful. He gave a reading of “Stand Your Ground” last year, and it was so excellent I think it was THE best thing I read all year. It was the kind of story that makes you really want to write, because it’s so good and he’s so good.

Currently watching: We’re rewatching Haikyuu again, in a perpetual cycle of rewatching Haikyuu!! We just finished the Seijou/Karasuno rematch, which was an INCREDIBLY emotionally taxing experience, because I want Karasuno to win but I also want Oikawa to win, and the fine details of that match are overwhelming.

I was swapping anime recs with a friend on LJ the other day, and she was like, “Wow, we have such similar tastes! That’s so rare, as varied as anime can be.” And internally I was like, IT’S BECAUSE YOU ALREADY TOLD ME YOU HATED LONG SERIAL BATTLE SHOUNEN. ToT Nah. I mean, she did say that, but I was intentionally reccing her things I liked that I thought she would also like. XD It’s just that I thought she would like them for the fanservice and the angst, and I like them because of the like, folding tables. (I love you Seijou folding table and banner on the ground.)

I also have 20 minutes left of the series finale of Reservation Dogs, but I don’t want to say goodbye just yet.

Currently consuming: Faildinner, which is distinct from girldinner because it’s when you feel very smart about making dishes that do a good job of using up last week’s leftover ingredients, only to realize you’ve made a tomato-based potato/squash dish and a balsamic vinegar-based chicken dish, which is already ACID ON ACID until you realize you also made a shchi recipe that included SAUERKRAUT.

Currently craving: JUSTICE. Not to be overly dramatic. At work today an adult child said something innocently intended but honestly kind of fucked up and I am so mad about it. It’s not remotely his responsibility to know our ranks or employment histories, but he assumed my colleague was older and more experienced and that I was learning from her, because he could “see the similarities in our teaching style.” Which, I just wanna say, EXCUUUUUSE ME???? I actually have years more experience than her??? I don’t know how old she is but we’re functionally the same age. But she just came back from maternity leave, and those similarities in our style are because I DESIGNED. THAT COURSE. And I gave it to her and told her she was welcome to keep whatever and change whatever, because she just came back from maternity leave and she should get all the shortcuts she needs. But the course is similar to mine because I MADE IT. Like, what a bizarre set of assumptions to make. Again, doesn’t matter, it’s not his business, there’s no reason that’s information he should have or care about, but omg, definitely not over it. Thanks I hate it!! /end rant

1) Haikyuu!!

Honestly this is just a comfort show for me. No matter how many times i rewatch it, it's always like the first time, even if you know what's about to happen, you still cheer and clap and groan in every match. Just AGAIWBAIWBSKBDIS such a good anime, i bawled my eyes out when i finished the manga, honestly this will go down as one of my favorite anime ever (update: watched the movie, it's good but man i wish we had whole season)

2) Undertale/Deltarune

I cannot beat the weird kid allegations, toby fox has me by my (totally legit) balls. Istg toby fox drugs his games, or else idk how to explain how am i keep coming back to this (lies this franchise and story is just pure masterpiece)

3) Fnaf

Yeah definitely doesn't help the weird kid allegations. Well you know what they say, when you start getting into fnaf you sign off your life into eternal servitude. I would describe my relationship with Fnaf as - toxic ex i keep coming back to. Somehow 8 years of this bullshit and we're still going. Counting animatronic toes and reading yet another wtf is this book

4) Bungoe Stray Dogs

Sighhhhhh. The gayssssss. THE GAAAAAYSSS. But nah honestly it just has everything to get me on the board. The drama, mysteries, pretty WOMEN, silly characters, gut wrenching angst, and of course gay ass mfkas. The manga is better though. I don't consider this a masterpiece (not by a lOng shot) but it a good show to watch and talk about, the characters are all fun and silly, cliche at times but nonetheless entertaining and the fan work is just CHEF'S KISS

5) Frieren: Beyond Journey's End

This is a relatively new one but GOD. DAMN. HOW DOES JUST MAKE THIS MASTERPIECE. IT'S SO GOOD. THE EMOTIONS THE PLOT THE CHARACTERS. HOW DOES ONE EXECUTE EVERYTHING SO PERFECTLY AND JUST LEAVES YOU CRYING AND SOBBING MESS BUT IN A GOOD WAY. Genuinely consider this one of the modern classics that will be talked about in years to come. Exploring the how would an immortal perceives time, is not something everyone (or anyone) really explores in fantasy stories but damn frieren absolutely slays with it. Not cherishing the people she was with only to realize how much they meant to her when it was too late, and they're already gone, is just so. UGH. AND THEN SHE SLOWLY LEARNS TO CHANGE AND APPRECIATE THE WORLD AND PEOPLE AROUND HER WHILE GOING THROUGH THE OLD MEMORIES IAISBSJSBSNSNKS. anyway. I do recommend frieren (they better announce that second season)

6) The Apothecary diaries

Also one of the recent ones. What can i say when we get an imperial china not china setting, with inner palace politics, hierarchies and murder mysteries, packed with probably the greatest female protagonist we had in how many years? How can not love it? Maomao my personal spiritual animal. She is just such a compelling character and breath of fresh air in anime community cuz god knows we need more of em. She just feels so real compare to what we usually, she is just one or the girls and that is beautiful. There are of course others aspects of this show that i like but honestly she is probably the main reason this show is just UGH so good

7) Stanley Parable

Okay, this is a bit of an odd one, but hear me out. This game is so GOOOOD. I remember playing way back when, and it was just so different than anything else that was coming out at the time. The meta narrative of this game was truly amazing, the amount options we had and so many interesting dialogs, the THINGS TO EXPLOREE. I also just loved the narrator, he is so goddamn funny, the banter with Henry (even though it's one sided) is still great
