To Show or Not to Show: The Tumblr Privacy Dilemma 👀
The debate: Should I reveal my likes and follows, or should I keep them hidden like a mysterious, moody Tumblr ghost? On one hand, it’s a great way to connect with others—like, “Hey, I also love obscure mushroom pics and conspiracy theories about how cats secretly rule the internet.” But on the other hand…do I really want people knowing I liked 37 posts about frogs in top hats at 2 a.m.? 🤔
If I show them: My followers get the full glimpse of my unique interests (read: all the bizarre fan theories, meme collections, and obscure aesthetics), and maybe get interested enough in me to buy my items on Etsy.
If I hide them: I keep the mystery alive, and maybe my audience imagines me as an art critic or the world’s most fascinating blogger with exquisite taste, and then go on to buy my items on Etsy.
What the audience probably does: Checks my profile, realizes they know nothing more about me, shrugs, and then go away to another blog to reblog that post of a raccoon with a slice of pizza.
Tumblr life is hard. 💀
