Another nugget of stupidity from the ‘His M.O. was No M.O.’ files.
‘Climaxing!’
Carrillo had learned through his detective studies that some killers are sexually aroused by seeing fear in their victims’ eyes. On podcasts, he cogitates for far too long at the idea of Richard Ramirez reaching orgasm: ‘He was orgasming!’ ‘Climaxing!’ ‘Foreplay!’. Alongside the bullets and the ridiculous links set out in this post, he also speculated that the murders of Okazaki and Yu were committed by the same man because ‘Richard Ramirez’ wanted to see fear in their eyes. “That was sex to him,” he declares.
Carrillo does not actually know what happened. He claims the killer banged on a car to attract Maria Hernandez’s attention (though she said it was an undefinable noise) specifically to see her scared expression. He claims Richard went up into Okazaki’s kitchen and waited for her to peep over the breakfast bar before shooting her (again, speculation). He then claimed that when the killer walked past Hernandez outside, he decided not to shoot her a second time because she no longer had fear in her eyes.
Wait – what? Why would Hernandez not have fear in her eyes? She had just been shot in the hand and was bleeding. She had heard her friend being shot and had no idea whether she would find her dead or alive. And here was the shooter, pointing the gun at her face for the second time… and she did not show fear?
Carrillo claims that Richard turned Tsai-Lian Yu around to see the fear in her eyes before he shot her. There was no proof this man – described as short and Asian – was Richard, yet Carrillo somehow knows what the Night Stalker was feeling when he shot this woman.
The next murder was a couple: Maxine and Vincent Zazzara. Maxine’s eyes were removed, so presumably, the killer did not enjoy seeing the fear in her eyes that much.
Then there were the four rape victims:
Carol Kyle testified that the rapist threatened to cut her eyes out if she looked at him. He covered her head with a pillow. (She did manage to see his nice straight teeth though).
Sophie Dickman said he put a towel and a pillow over her head, (but was able to see he was short to average height).
Somkid Khovananth said he put a coat over her head (luckily, she was able to identify a man with dark curly hair and a ‘brown face’).
Sakina Abowath was blindfolded (but not before she glimpsed a blondish man) and he hit her for looking at him.
Hold on a minute… did the modus operandi just change? How did the man who became excited from seeing Okazaki, Hernandez and Yu’s terror suddenly change into the man who gouges women’s eyes out, threatens others with the same, or covers victims’ faces and demands that they do not look at him?
One might argue that those rapes were different because the Night Stalker never intended to kill those women, so his fear-fetish was not present – which seems odd. Violent rape and burglary at gunpoint are terrifying – surely, he would be in his element? But no, he did not want to see their faces, not even to help him get an erection after he was unable to at the Dickman Incident. Hardly a sexual fetish then…
However, if he really cared about being seen, he would have shot them; he had a gun; after all, he had killed the husbands of two of the rape victims.
The Night Stalker ‘celebrity’ detectives like to state that Richard’s M.O. was no M.O., but that is clearly an excuse for their lazy policing; they cannot have it both ways. You either have a man who gets off on seeing women terrified or a man who hates being looked at. He cannot be both.
Furthermore, he cannot have nine different looks, five different heights, three different body types, four different hair colours, and three different sets of teeth.
The Night Stalker was multiple people and not one of them seems to be Richard Ramirez.

Happy 132th Birthday to Richard James "Two-Gun" Hart/James "Jimmy" Vincenzo Capone
132 years ago on March 28, 1892, James was born in Angri, Province of Salerno, Italy. When he was three-years-old he, his mom, his dad, and 17 months old brother Raffaele (Ralph) came to America on the Werra in June 1895.
As a child, he loved playing the violin. At sixteen-years-old, he, Ralph, and Frank took part in a fight with some Irish kids. James threw a kid through a window and thought he killed the boy (no thanks to Al who told James he did- the troublemaker). Ashamed and scared of what would happen to him, James ran away and joined a traveling circus that happened to be in town. He changed his name to Richard James Hart, taking the last name of his favorite silent film star and idol, William S. Hart.
He served in WWI, serving in France, and earned a commission as a lieutenant. After, he settled in Homer, Nebraska and became a Prohibition agent. He earned the nickname "Two-Gun" because of his sharp-shooting skills he earned in the circus. He watched what his siblings were up to through the paper. In 1945 he rejoined his family when he fell on hard times.
He married Kathleen Winch in 1919, and had four boys, Richard, William, Sherman, and Harry Hart. He died in Homer, Nebraska at the age of 60 in 1952 from a heart attack.

the other thing i noticed watching the irishman was the progression of beds in the hotel rooms. @sam-rothstein did you notice this, or am i wrong? i believe these are the only ones we see
1) the first night they share a hotel room, we know about the door close moment - it’s a two room suite, and we see jimmy disappear into the bedroom and frank be on the cot (not couch)
2) the next time we see them share a hotel room, they have two twin beds next to each other - this is the scene that jimmy asks frank to run for president of 326. i think there’s no doubt this bed choice is intentional to imply that jimmy views frank a lot more like an equal/a friend than the bodyguard/employee he of course did the night he met him
3) the next time we see them share a hotel room is after jimmy’s been to jail and there’s a bunch of scenes of them in different hotel rooms while frank is going back and forth between jimmy and russ and tony salerno. the first hotel room we see them in immediately has jimmy standing in front of a queen+ size bed that is unmade. it’s light out so it’s presumably morning, after jimmy got up. frank is sitting on a chair and there’s a couch next to him, but one that is definitely not big enough for frank to sleep on. i’m not saying there’s not a cot, i assume there is - i’m just saying we don’t see one. there’s a montage of other very similar hotel rooms - all one room (not a suite with a bedroom and a living room) with one large bed with the couch/chair area in the bedroom and presumably with a cot off screen or not yet set up, we never see it.
anyway, the progression of hotel rooms to me clearly implies a progression of comfort and closeness

This is the story of how he rose in the ranks, making countless of enemies along the way. This is also the story of how they tried to kill him, but failed. I’ve never heard of Danny Greene, but the movie paints a nice realistic picture of the 1970s. This is not a pleasant world, but one where everyone is trying to get their piece of the cake. Danny himself is a hard one to figure out, is he good, is he bad? The one moment he helps out a friend in need, the next… he is killing people. I kinda like the fact that he is a person with both sides to him, allowing us to make up our own mind about him. Life is never as simple as most movies would like us to think it is. The movie itself is a little messy, and I had expected a bit more from the cast, but of course, this is a movie based on actual events and characters, and of course that means that they can’t change too much. In minor roles we find Val Kilmer and Christopher Walken, both excellent actors that tend to make quirky and interesting characters, but not so much here. Last words… a solid movie that gives us some insight into a man who really lived and breathed. It has some heart, for sure, but ain’t all that interesting when it comes down to it. I probably won’t ever see it a second time, but I definitely survived seeing it once.

Napoli: Aldolà Chivalà live a Pessoa Luna Park. Aldo è solito provocare vivaci discussioni dopo le serate nei locali del centro di Napoli e Mauro gli propone di lavorare sui suoi soliloqui. Dopo numerose sessioni di studio, Mauro riveste di musica elettronica gli Slam (genere di poesia orale tesa a catturare e scuotere lo spettatore) improvvisati da Aldo: ne viene fuori un incontro tra parole recitate e sample con la forma classica della canzone. Il duo inizia ad esibirsi nei locali di Napoli e provincia, il repertorio si arricchisce di serata in serata di nuovi brani. Nel 2011 esce Discontinuo, il primo disco. Il brano omonimo diventa subito popolare nella scena underground di Napoli e provincia così come il videoclip girato dal regista Fabio Luongo che vede la partecipazione dell’attrice napoletana Loredana Simioli. Arriva l’invito di Gianni Simioli ad esibirsi nella trasmissione Operazione San Gennaro su Tele A, dove Aldo interpreta il brano Nun voglio ascì, slammando dall’interno di una tenda da campeggio. Dall’inizio del 2012 si unisce al progetto anche Valerio Vittorioso come Vj. Attraverso il suo video mapping visionario le performance del duo diventano ancora più suggestive. Continuano i live nei club in tutta la Campania e arriva l’invito ad esibirsi al primo maggio a Bagnoli del 2013. Durante la performance Aldolà passa il microfono ad alcuni operai in cassa integrazione presenti tra il pubblico che chiedono di parlare e la performance del duo viene interrotta subito dopo. Intanto si appassiona al progetto l’artista napoletano Daniele Sepe che inizia ad accompagnare Aldolà Chivalà dal vivo e spesso si aggiunge alle performance anche Gianluca “Shangò” Salerno alle percussioni. Nel Settembre del 2014 Aldolà Chivalà insieme a Daniele Sepe und rote Jazz fraktion suona sul palco di Eutropia nell’ambito della Festa dell’altra Economia a Roma. Nel 2015 Discontinuo diventa un disco più libro con disegni dell’artista Franco Silvestro commentati da Aldolà Chivalà per Roundmidnight Edizioni. Nel 2019 esce il nuovo disco Spostati un po’ con l’etichetta MrFew. Il Pessoa Luna Park è ispirato ai programmi di riuso transitorio degli spazi urbani presenti nelle maggiori capitali europee, Luna Park Urbano è un progetto finanziato, nell'ambito del Bando Fermenti, dal Dipartimento per le politiche giovanili e il Servizio civile universale con il patrocinio del Comune di Napoli e in collaborazione con l’Assessorato alle Politiche giovanili e al Lavoro. Matera to Velletri, Italy
Bus and train rides today - our wonderful host in Matera, Frank, delivered us to the bus station in Matera this morning. We had a lovely drive to Salerno on the bus, passing by the beautiful mountain range in the picture above. We caught the train in Salerno, which took us into Roma Termini. We missed our connecting train out to Velletri, because our train from Salerno was just a few minutes late. Luckily, this guy helped us out and sent us over a couple of tracks to a train that was going to Frascati. We asked one of the train workers if that train went to Velletri and he said “No, Frascati!” So we started to walk back and the guy who told us to get on that train started yelling at us from across the station that we should get on that train! So we went back and asked another worker how to get to Velletri, he told us to get on the train to Frascati and then changed trains in two stops and get on the train to Velletri. Success!
What a first class train ticket will buy you on the train from Salerno to Rome - crackers, a cheesy crouton, a couple of cookies, water, and a piece of chocolate.
We finally arrived at the Velletri station, where we were met by Fabrizio - a friend from when he worked for Lockheed Martin. Fabrizio took us to his apartment in Velletri, where we had a wonderful evening of views, food, wine, and friends.

The Light-Haired Man Who Attacked the Abowaths
We will go straight to the point here: Richard Ramirez did not murder Elyas Abowath and rape his wife Sakina in Diamond Bar on 8th August 1985. This post will not go into the particulars of this murder/rape/burglary, as it will be dealt with later in a comparison post with other similar crimes.
Sakina Abowath is another victim who drastically changed the description of the killer after her initial reports. Below is the description taken immediately after the incident:
Sakina’s description of the attacker, to Sergeant Yarborough from the petition:
As you can see, Sakina’s description does not match Richard Ramirez. She described him as being Caucasian, but with Latin features, and yellowish skin, though this is not expanded upon. Latino people do not all look the same; what did she mean? Dark hair and dark eyes are common in Latino populations, but the murderer/rapist, in this case, was blond or light brown and Richard Ramirez’s hair was dark brown, almost black.
The killer here has “wide front teeth” – Richard’s were not wide. Could Sergeant Yarborough be leading the witness here? Sakina says she cannot recall gaps but did she state this independently, or was Yarborough asking? Because, on 20th July, Somkid Khovananth reported a similar crime and asserted that her attacker had gapped teeth. Below is the most famous (and most hideous) composite sketch from the Ramirez case.

She described him with a “recessed chest”, but again, this does not fit Richard’s appearance. There is a photo of him without his shirt on, featured in the documentary. He was very underweight but he had quite a broad chest and shoulders. There was nothing particularly distinctive about his upper body… apart from the grazes from his pre-arrest beating and the track marks in his arms…
We are not privy to the composite sketch in this case, but the Petition indicates that she told the artist he had light brown hair. She has changed his hair from possibly blond to just brown, but it still doesn’t describe Richard. She saw this man under the bathroom light – dark hair does not suddenly appear light under a bulb…
Sakina said Richard did not have an accent. Everyone has an accent! By this one could assume she meant he just had an American accent, but what kind of American accent? Sakina Abowath is a Pakistani immigrant so may not be able to differentiate between various American accents, so let’s call it a ‘standard American accent.’ It was nothing that stood out to her as regional or foreign or out of place in California. Compare that to Richard Ramirez. He did have a slight Mexican accent as one might expect of a man from a Mexican family who grew up on the Mexican border.
So, when did the rapist-killer start morphing into Richard Ramirez?
It is unclear whether Sakina Abowath identified Richard at the tainted line-up (the press claimed she did but it is not in the Petition) but she did identify him at the 1986 preliminary hearing.
In defence of her changing her description of the killer, Sakina denied seeing the regular TV coverage and newspapers, because her religion apparently does not permit her to watch the news during a mourning period. How wonderfully convenient. So, she changed his appearance all by herself? Below is from the Los Angeles Times, 16th April 1986, during the aforementioned preliminary hearing.
At trial, Sakina again identified dark-haired Richard as her blond/light brown-haired attacker. This journalist’s opinion was interesting though.
Perhaps she had been looking for the light-haired man…
The defence failed to impeach her with respect to this eyewitness identification. However, some of the jurors did pick up on the discrepancies in this case and assisted the Habeas Corpus lawyers. Juror Bonita Smith was probably talking about the Abowath case here. (Document 20 – 8)

Remember, Maria Hernandez also said the killer might have also been Caucasian, as did Sophie Dickman in her initial police report, before changing him to Richard. If only the jurors had kicked up more of a fuss about this. A vulnerable young man’s life was at stake.
Evidence at the Scene
Two pubic or transitional hairs (between chest hair and pubic hair) were found on the Abowath bed. They were not from Richard. As you can see, Richard had no chest hair at all.
A vaginal swab was taken from Sakina to determine the PGM subtype of the semen – in very simple terms, it determines blood group. Criminalist Steve Renteria determined that Richard and Elyas Abowath shared the same PGM subtype, making it inconclusive. However, further tests showed the semen could not have been from either man. Curiously, there were other semen stains on the bedsheets, some consistent with Richard’s blood group and some definitely inconsistent, though they did match Elyas.
Why were there multiple sources of semen in Sakina Abowath’s bed? In case you are wondering, no, the defence didn’t ask, nor did they emphasise that the semen on the vaginal swab was not proven to be Richard’s.
This felon liked melon; whoever it was ate some and left it on the kitchen counter and its seeds were found in the hallway. Was it not possible to take photographs of the melon bite marks to later match with Richard’s teeth? Could the melon seeds or the spoon have been kept for saliva tests? We never hear anything more. Next to the melon looks like a packet of cigarettes and an ashtray. Although Richard did smoke marijuana, he did not smoke ordinary cigarettes. Did the Abowaths smoke? Did anyone even ask? A quick bit of detective work suggests they are Salem cigarettes.
Ballistics B*ll*cks
Elyas Abowath was killed by a .25 automatic firearm. The prosecution claimed this was from the same gun that failed to kill the Petersens, as if some distorted bullets would ever be enough to determine the person behind the trigger. It is especially odd, because the Petersen attack is nothing like the Abowath incident – Virginia Petersen was not raped and dragged around the house with the burglar or cuffed; they were both shot (they survived) and nothing was stolen. These incidents were nowhere near each other, being 57 miles apart and the furthest in distance of all the Ramirez crimes (most serial killers have a location pattern) and it stretches credulity to suggest that only one person could be in possession of a .25 automatic in a wide geographical area.
This weapon was never recovered from Richard, or anyone else. However, four .25 bullets were recovered from Richard’s bag at the Greyhound Bus Station and in the opinion of Edward Robinson, the red primer on three of the bullet casings matched those found in both the Abowath and Petersen attacks. Was Richard the only person in Los Angeles who had this type of bullet? It is doubtful.
The prosecution brought this evidence forward and urged the jury to look at the connection with the Petersen attack. Guess what? The defence conceded it instead of bringing in their own ballistics experts. Well, actually they attempted to bring one, but this happened…
Dougherty did agree to re-examine them, in any case. This shows that even the prosecution’s experts were in conflict with each other and they chose to only utilise Edward Robinson because he told them what they wanted to hear.
I Can’t Believe It’s Not Avia!
The infamous size 11 Avia aerobics shoes took the night off for this incident and some size 12 Stadias turned up, which were subsequently (and most conveniently) matched to the shoes Richard was wearing on the day his railroading nightmare began. So, the solitary crime scene that can definitively match the shoe print to footwear owned by Richard, involved a man who did not look like him, did not have a Mexican accent, produced semen that could not be conclusively matched to him and shed pubic hairs that were not like his. As with the Avias (that no one ever saw him wear), Richard could not have been the only man in Los Angeles to wear Stadia trainers. There is clearly more evidence that it was not him, than evidence that it was.
How accurate were these shoe findings? Gerald Burke (who did not have particular expertise in shoe forensics at this time) examined the shoes and was unable to determine whether the print was from a left or a right shoe, so it was clearly not a full print. His findings came from matching the ‘dot matrix pattern’ to Richard’s size 12s. If it was insufficient to prove what foot the shoe belonged on, how did Burke know it was a 12?
When cross-examined, he was less certain and said it could have been 11-12 and he determined size by putting a sole against a wall and measuring the outsole from end to end, but how does this work without a full print? So really, Burke does not know. A shoe expert was not brought forward by the defence to challenge his findings or technique.
Abowath believed the killer wore hard shoes, that were not tennis shoes (trainers). As we saw above, she told Sergeant Yarborough he was possibly wearing boots. All shoes are hard when you are being kicked in the head, as Sakina was, but Stadias are aerobics shoes and fairly soft. The presence of Stadia prints – if that is what they really were – does not mean they were the killer’s footwear that night. They could have belonged to a visitor. Perhaps it was the man who left the mystery semen stains…
Satanic Panic!
It was a thing in the 80s; a craze; a mass hysteria. Where did Sakina’s “Swear on Satan!” claims come from? They were not in her initial police report. Because Richard was a so-called Satanist, this was used to tie him to crime scenes where there was no substantial evidence. Sakina could have added this for dramatic effect in the trial. If she can lie about his appearance, she could easily fan the flames of hatred and fear towards him by claiming he was yelling about Satan.
Seeing as the Church of Satan headquarters was in California during this period, it’s safe to say Richard Ramirez was not the only satanist in the city – in fact, many other Satanists came to watch his trial. Having weird interests does not automatically make one a serial killer candidate.
Solano’s Stash
On September 5, 1985, Sakina Abowath attended a property line-up. She identified jewellery, including two gold chains, earrings, an engagement ring, a necklace pendant, a television, and a VCR as property taken from her home by the murderer that had come from LA’s answer to Fagin, Felipe Solano.
Speculation and Suspects
Elyas and Sakina Abowath are another two victims you can remove from Richard’s list of evil crimes. So, who did this? Here is the prosecution telling the jury that Richard’s defence lawyers forgot to raise this potential suspect. They failed. Did the police even investigate this security guard? They must have. Why was he not brought to court by the defence?!
The lawyers for Richard’s Petition have suggested an acquaintance of Richard’s from the ‘Greyhound Bus Burglar Posse’ – Julio Romero.
Who is Julio? Nobody knows because he was never questioned and was never part of the trial. All we know is he is a man who committed burglaries with Richard and others associated with him and brought stolen goods to Felipe Solano. Why Julio? Manuel “Cuba” Hechevarria, another criminal associate of Solano, who was also a police informer described Julio as a blonde Latino who was 6 feet tall. Julio fits Sakina Abowath’s description better than Richard and would explain how Felipe Solano came to have the Abowath family’s property. All that stuff is murky and complicated and will be covered in due course.
There is someone else: when Richard’s backpack was seized from the Greyhound Bus Station, the bag had a tag that read ‘Greg Rodriguez.’ Greg Rodriguez is the twin brother of Armando Rodriguez who, according to the Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer documentary, gave up Richard’s name to the police after Detective Frank Falzon beat it out of him (and bragged about his police brutality with an angry pride).
These are two people with whom Richard allegedly burgled, who lived in San Francisco. Armando was in a relationship with Donna Myers who also claimed to be in receipt of stolen goods from Richard. Because they were never investigated, we can only speculate: could Armando and Greg also be suspects, especially for Richard’s San Francisco murders that never went to trial? If so, they all have the motive to point the finger at him. Could Richard have knowingly taken the blame for the murders? It is entirely possible – he was mentally ill. Could he have been coerced or threatened into covering for someone else’s crimes? His severe paranoia is well-documented. This brings us to Richard’s mental health again.
Failing all of the above, as always, there was the argument for insanity. If his team hadn’t been concealing how severely mentally ill Richard was for financial gain (more on that later), then he would not have been sentenced to death and might not have ended up in prison at all.

Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer Review

I watched the documentary, Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer, episode 1. A big question is why are serial killers the way they are. This documentary runs you through what this killer nicknamed the “Night Stalker” did. There are men (Sherman Block, Detective Gil Carrillo, and Detective Frank Salerno) from the LA county Sheriff in the homicide bureau who worked on the case explain what went down and walking you through what the Night Stalker had done. The documentary showed news reports in the LA county that went on air at the time of this killer, there were clips of residents talking about how scared they felt when all of this was going on. The documentary even had survivors of the Night Stalker talk and explain their experiences with him. This documentary is in chronological order of the events that happened with the Night Stalker.
The documentary attempts to answer the question of why serial killers are the way they are is because of deviance. For example, this killer seemed to have the fantasy of seeing fear in others. He waited to see fear in the people he killed before he killed them. One example is, the Night Stalker shot at a girl, but she didn’t die, when she ran into him a second time, he pointed a gun at her expecting her to show fear, but instead she said please don’t shoot me you already shot at me once. Because this interaction did not cause fear in the girl, he put the gun down and simply walked away.
The documentary sets up the homicide detectives as the heroes who are looking for and trying to catch this killer, with obviously portraying the killer to be as evil as he was. While watching this documentary you can tell how much they rely on sounds to show mood. Right off the bat the documentary gives you this very creepy and eerie feeling. The background music is very creepy and menacing, along with that the screen is becoming glitchy and cutting out. A lot of the time they are playing creepy and eerie music to scare you and give you chills, like the chilling actions this killer did. But when the “hero”, homicide detective Gil Carrillo was talking about his childhood and start of his career the music was calmer and more somber. You could relax a little bit and feel more comfortable when he was talking about himself compared to when he talks about the Night Stalker. If they are talking about the Night Stalker killing and shooting someone, you sometimes get this strong and loud gunshot noise, which leaves you feeling startled just like the victims did when they heard that.
The imagery and lighting are also very intense. There are cut scenes to bloody murder weapons when talking about what type of weapon the Night Stalker used to kill a specific victim or even just a scene of dripping blood. Along with when they talk about the victim you get a black cut scene with the victim’s name and age they died in a bold white, just black and white staring you in the face. It's like it is saying here are the cold hard facts you cannot ignore that this happened. They also used real police photographs of the crime scene and the victim, which is very terrifying to see, because it truly puts the words into real life. The lighting throughout the documentary is dark and dreary, no bright lights, this makes sure to keep the mood eerie. Sometimes the screen also glitches out and makes a loud glitching noise. If anything, ever becomes glitchy in a horror movie, you know that it is scary or is going to become scary. When they use the glitching effect it does make you feel afraid, especially with the fact that you know this was a real horror and something that did happen. It is not just coming from some horror movie.
