CAMP ALEJO SANTOS, Bulacan – At least 11 individuals were arrested for illegally trading petroleum products in Barangay Bigte, Norzagaray town on Monday.

Col. Lawrence Cajipe, provincial director of the Bulacan Police Provincial Office, said in a media interview on Tuesday that the Bulacan Intelligence Unit conducted an operation inside the Tiger Gaz Corporation, a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) refilling plant in Barangay Bigte, upon receiving information on such illegal activities.

He identified the arrested suspects as Enrique Rivera III of Barangay Sta. Rosa II, Marilao town; Gemma Rosello, Arsenito Diocampo and Randmar Castro, all residents of City of San Jose del Monte; Mark Anthony Casucot, Joel Buloro, Mark Gil Carin, Paul John Sarenas and Mark Anthony Torrenueva, all of Barangay Bigte; and Richard Suerte Felipe and Francisco Ramos, both residents of Malolos City; all in Bulacan.

Cajipe said the suspects were caught in the act of refilling several LPG tanks without brand names while others bear various brands such as Petron, Solane, Phinoy, Rising Sun, Continental, Shellane, and Sam Gas, among others.

He said the suspects failed to present any pertinent documents or permits from the Department of Energy (DOE), Bureau of Fire Protection, and authorization from the companies that own the branded tanks/cylinder.

Recovered from the suspects were some 100 pieces of LPG tanks/cylinder tanks of different brand names and vehicles being used in the delivery of LPG products.

Cajipe said the arrested persons and the confiscated pieces of evidence, including the vehicles used in the delivery of the items were brought to the Provincial Intelligence Unit office for documentation.

He added that the suspects will be charged with violation of Presidential Decree No. 1865 on the illegal trade of petroleum products. (PNA)

THE GHOST OF MARY SURRATT

Key West has ghosts. Several observed with frequency.

Key West does not have an exclusive on ghosts. One comes to mind today. Her name Mary Surratt. On this day in 1865 Mary was hung in Washington, D.C. Executed. Her crime: An alleged conspirator in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.

Mary bears the distinction of having been the first woman executed by the U.S. government.

She was hung at the Old Arsenal Penitentiary in Washington. Today, the site of Fort McNair.

She went to her death wearing a long black dress. Hands and feet bound. Her head covered.

It is claimed that Mary still walks the grounds of Fort McNair. Children of soldiers stationed there claim they play with a “lady in black.” Others have seen her walking the grounds of the Fort.

There is an old wive’s tale that ghosts continue  to remain at a particular earthly place because of some unhappiness, some unfinished business. In Mary’s case it might be because her involvement with Lincoln’s assassination was questionable. She may have been innocent. Many thought her innocent. Others, the death penalty too harsh.

It was thought President Johnson would pardon her at the last moment or reduce her sentence to life in prison. Her morning scheduled hanging was held off till the afternoon in anticipation of one or the other. Neither came. She was hung.

Celebrated my 84th birthday last night with good friends Donna, Terri and Mary. Dinner at Tavern & Town.

Terri in great shape. Since she had the stent put in 2 weeks ago, she is full of energy.

When it came time to blow out the candle, my dear friends began singing Happy Birthday. Soon Terri’s voice overwhelmed them. She sings magnificently! Happy birthday like you have never heard it.

The dining room cheered her when she was done.

As we were walking out following dinner, we passed Bobby Nesbitt who was performing in the bar area. He shouted out…..Louis Petrone, Happy Birthday! He started to sing Happy Birthday. Terri joined in. At the end, the bar gave Terri another great hand.

My personal thanks to all who e-mailed and telephoned yesterday. It made me feel good.

Key West’s old City Hall sits on Greene Street. Still used for such things as community meetings. A new City Hall was opened on White Street 2 years ago. A lovely building!

KONK Life ran a photo of a Key West City Hall on Greene Street which was dedicated July 4, 1876. Sort of looks like, could be, the old City Hall still standing on Greene Street. I say maybe because it does not look like the 1876 one. Then again hard to tell. Throw a couple of small additions on a building and a staircase and it could be the same one.

Mario Sanchez is one of Key West’s famous people. An artist. He did bas relief carvings. Then painted over them in vibrant colors.

KONK Life ran another photo this morning. One of Sanchez working in his “studio” on July 7, 1962. The studio unique. In the shade outside under trees.

Cary Grant made Operation Petticoat in Key West. While here, he purchased 4 of Sanchez’s pieces. When Grant later made That Touch of Mink, the Sanchez works Grant had purchased could be seen in the film.

Sanchez’s wood paintings outstanding. Relatively small. At one point in Sanchez’s career, they were selling for $50,000 a piece.

I fear the California earthquakes of the past 2 days will be with us for another month. Experts are predicting up to 10 more. Some aftershocks, some actually new quakes. Anyone could be above the 7.1 on the rector scale recorded yesterday.

Yesterday’s quake is being described as the worst in 20 years.

Twenty years ago, my dear friend Bob Marks was working in the San Francisco area when the quake hit. He telephoned me 3 days after. He still could not get home. In order to do so, he had to cross the San-Francisco-Oakland Bridge. Big. The top section of the bridge had collapsed. Would take forever to fix. Access to the other side not yet worked out.

The earthquake a big one. Rector Scale reported 6.9. Sixty seven people killed. Thousands injured. Five billion dollars in property damage.

The ultimate cost to rebuild the bridge $6.4 billion. It is claimed the new suspension spa will withstand the strongest earthquakes that may occur in the next 1,500 years.

Hope we don’t find out the estimate is incorrect.

I thought today would be a day without Trump. Not to be.

This morning’s news report comments made by British Ambassador Kim Darroch about Trump. The comments are in memos sent to the British Foreign Commonwealth. Somehow released and verified to be so contained.

Remarks made were between 2017 and now.

El lunes 6 de agosto se realizó "Ludé en concierto", un show único que tuvo lugar en el Teatro LUDÉ y del que participaron artistas que desbordan talento y que consiguieron ofrecer una noche fascinante. Con la conducción del divertidísimo Kiki Petrone, quién animó los baches entre canción y canción entreteniendo a los espectadores, diferentes jóvenes del teatro musical desfilaron por el escenario. Los estilos musicales fueron más que variados: el rock, el pop, los musicales y hasta cuartetos de Rodrigo resonaron en la sala y deleitaron a todos los presentes. Se destacaron artistas con un gran potencial como Francisco Eizaguirre, Franco Friguglietti, Manuela Perin y Miguel Gómez Vicarii. Además, se contó con la presencia del maestro Juan Pablo Schapira, que se distingue a donde vaya por su admirable destreza que hipnotiza inevitablemente. Participaron, también, figuras como Silvana Tomé, Matías Asenjo, Gerónimo González, Julieta Rapetta, Lali Vidal, Lucien Gilabert, Manuel Di Francesco, Pablo Vanella y Uriel Crosta. Nectar’s sonar bottle caps could save $50B in stolen booze

Bars lose 20 percent of their alcohol to overpours and “free” drinks for friends. That amounts to $50 billion per year in booze that mysteriously disappears, making life tough for every pub and restaurant. Nectar wants to solve that mystery with its ultrasound depth sensing bottle caps that measure how much liquid is left in a bottle by measuring how long it takes a sonar pulse to bounce back. And now it’s bringing real-time pour tracking to beer with its gyroscopic taps. The result is that bar managers can find out who’s pouring too much or giving away drink, which promotions are working, when to reorder bottles without keeping too much stock on hand, and avoid wasting hours weighing or eyeballing the liquor level of their inventory.

Nectar’s solution to alcohol shrinkage has now attracted a $10 million Series A led by DragonCapital.vc and joined by former Campari chairman Gerry Ruvo who will join the board. “Not a lot of technology has come to the bottle” Nectar CEO Aayush Phumbhra says of ill-equipped bars and restaurants. “Liquor is their highest margin and highest cost item. If you don’t manage it efficiently, you go out of business.” Other solutions can look ugly to customers, forcibly restrict bartenders, or take time and money to install and maintain. In contrast, Phunumbhra tells me “I care about solving deep problems by building a solution that doesn’t change behavior.”

Investors were eager to back the CEO, since he previously co-founded text book rental giant Chegg — another startup disrupting an aged market with tech. “I come from a pretty entrepreneurial family. No one in my family has ever worked for anyone else before” Phunumbhra says with a laugh. He saw an opportunity in the stunning revelation that the half-trillion dollar on-premises alcohol business was plagued by missing booze and inconsistent ways to track it.

Typically at the end of a week or month, a bar manager will have staff painstakingly look at each bottle, try to guess what percent remains, and mark it on a clipboard to be loaded into a spreadsheet later. While a little quicker, that’s very subjective and in-accurate More advanced systems see every bottled weighed to see exactly how much is left. If they’re lucky, the scale connects to a computer, but they still have to punch in what brand of booze they’re sizing up. But the process can take many hours, which amounts to costly labor and infrequent data. None of these methods eliminate the manual measurement process or give real-time pour info.

So with $6 million in funding, Nectar launched in 2017 with its sonar bottle caps that look and operate like old-school pourers. When bars order them, they come pre-synced and labeled for certain bottle shapes like Petron or Jack Daniels. Their Bluetooth batteries last a year and connect wirelessly to a base hub in the bar. With each pour, the sonar pulse determines how much is in the bottle and subtracts it from the previous measurement to record how much was doled out. And the startup’s new gyroscopic beer system is calibrated to deduce pour volume from the angle and time the tap is depressed without the need for a sensor to be installed (and repaired) inside the beer hose.

Bar managers can keep any eye on everything throughout the night with desktop, iOS, and Android apps. They could instantly tell if a martini special is working based on how much gin across brands is being poured, ask bartenders to slow their pours if they’re creeping upwards in volume, or give the green light to strong pours on weeknights to reward regular customers. “Some bars encourage overpours to get people to keep coming back” says local San Francisco celebrity bartender Broke-Ass Stuart, who tells me pre-measured pourers can save owners money but cost servers tips.

Nectar now sells self-serve subscriptions to its hardware and software, with a 20 cap package costing $99 per month billed annually with free yearly replacements. It’s also got a free 2 tap trial package, or a $399 per month enterprise subscription for 100 taps. Nectar is designed to complement bar point of sale systems. And if a bar just wants the software, Nectar just launched its PrecisionAudit app where staff tap the current liquid level on a photo of each different bottle for more accurate eyeballing. It’s giving a discount rate of $29.99 per month on the first 1000 orders.

After 2 million pours measured, the business is growing 200 percent quarter-over-quarter as bowling alley chains and stadiums sign up for pilots. The potential to change the booze business seduced investors like Tinder co-founders Sean Rad and Justin Mateen, Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale, and the founding family of the Modelo beer company. Next, Nectar is trying to invent a system for wine. That’s trickier since its taps would need to be able to suck the air out of the bottles each night.

The big challenge will be convincing bars to change after tracking inventory the same way for decades. No one wants to deal with technical difficulties in a jam-packed bar. That’s partly why Nectar’s subscription doesn’t force owners to buy its hardware up front.

fIf Nectar can nail not only the tech but the bartender experience, it could pave a smoother path to hospitality entrepreneurship. Alcohol shrinkage is one factor leading to the rapid demise of many bars and restaurants. Plus, it could liberate bartenders from measuring bottles into the wee hours. WASHINGTON – U.S. Depart of State today released the following statement:

Today, the United States government sanctioned three individuals from Nicaragua who have been involved in serious human rights abuse or engaged in corruption.  As a result of today’s actions, any property, or interest in property, of those designated within U.S. jurisdiction is blocked.  Additionally, U.S. persons are generally prohibited from engaging in transactions with blocked persons, including entities owned or controlled by designated persons.

Under Francisco Javier Diaz Madriz’s command, Nicaragua’s National Police has engaged in serious human rights abuse against the people of Nicaragua.  Fidel Antonio Moreno Briones has directed acts of violence committed by the Sandinista Youth and pro-government armed groups which have been implicated in numerous human rights abuses related to the ongoing protests against the Nicaraguan government.  Jose Francisco Lopez Centeno is the Vice President of ALBANISA, the President of Petronic, and the Treasurer of the ruling FSLN party and has been accused of leveraging his position to his and his family’s benefit by using companies they own to win government contracts.

Today’s sanctions announcement, plus earlier and continuing visa revocations, shows the United States will expose and hold accountable those responsible for the Nicaraguan government’s ongoing violence and intimidation campaign against its people. These actions must end.  We support the Episcopal Conference of Nicaragua’s efforts to advance negotiations to resolve the crisis, and urge full implementation of the June 15 National Dialogue agreement on human rights as a critical component.  The United States also supports calls for early, free, fair and transparent elections.  We will continue to monitor the situation closely and take additional actions as events warrant.

Documentário retrata candidatas que preservam legado de Marielle

Jaqueline de Jesus, Mônica Francisco, Renata Souza, Rose Cipriano, Tainá de Paula e Talíria Petrone. Estas seis mulheres negras lançaram suas candidaturas buscando preservar e expandir o legado da vereadora Marielle Franco, assassinada há pouco mais de um ano no Rio de Janeiro.

Inspiradas pelas bandeiras e pela luta da parlamentar, as candidatas mostraram suas trajetórias na corrida eleitoral de 2018 para o documentário “Sementes”, produzido pela Noix Cultura, e que está em campanha de financiamento coletivo na plataforma Benfeitoria. Confira o trailer:

“Elas se tornaram os rostos da resistência política no atual cenário, que é árido em diversidade. A presença dessas mulheres e suas lutas no legislativo se mostra cada vez mais importante nesse atual momento que vivemos. Elas defendem o direito à educação pública de qualidade, os direitos da população LGBT, o cumprimento básico dos direitos humanos garantidos pela constituição, e tudo isso sempre muito ligado, como fazia Marielle, à questão da negritude no país”, afirmam as diretoras do filme, Júlia Mariano e Éthel Oliveira.

Representatividade ainda é pequena

O legado político de Marielle inspirou muitas candidaturas femininas nas eleições de 2018. Segundo os dados do Congresso em Foco, o Rio de Janeiro foi o estado que mais teve candidaturas de mulheres negras nas últimas eleições: 237 se candidataram e seis foram eleitas, um aumento de 151% em relação aos dados das eleições de 2014.

Mas a sub-representação feminina – e negra – ainda é um grave problema: no Brasil, menos de 10% das cadeiras existentes na Câmara dos Deputados são ocupadas por mulheres e no caso de mulheres negras este número é ainda menor. O país é o 155º lugar (o menor da América do Sul) no mundo em participação feminina no Poder Legislativo, segundo lista atualizada em Junho de 2018 da União Parlamentar (UIP).

“Nossa equipe é 100% composta por mulheres e 50% delas negras, a paridade na equipe é uma questão fundamental para nós do Sementes. Outra questão muito importante para nós é o alcance do filme para além do circuito comercial e tradicional do cinema. Estamos trabalhando para levar o filme para escolas públicas, institutos federais, coletivos de jovens negras, associação de moradores, bibliotecas populares, etc, ou seja, fazer o cinema chegar onde normalmente não chega! Nosso objetivo primordial com o Sementes é aproximar o filme do nosso público alvo: jovens e mulheres negras que vivem nas periferias e favelas”, acrescenta Júlia Mariano.

Entrevista com Monica Benicio: um ano de luta por Marielle

Monica Benicio não consegue se lembrar de quem era antes da noite do 14 de março de 2018. Naquele dia, esperava sua esposa, a vereadora Marielle Franco, em casa para jantar quando recebeu a notícia de que ela havia sido brutalmente assassinada no Estácio, região central do Rio de Janeiro.

Desde o crime, a ativista por direitos humanos abandonou praticamente todos seus projetos pessoais para se dedicar a um objetivo: cobrar justiça nas investigações sobre o crime. Mas a ameaça segue com a ascensão do PSL, que garantirá a oposição ao ambientalismo e aos direitos indígenas.

O número de mulheres na Câmara dos Deputados subiu 51%, chegando a 77 representantes femininas ao todo. Ainda é pouco, mas é uma melhora!

Mônica Benicio, compañera sentimental de la política brasileña Marielle Franco, asesinada el pasado mes de marzo, lidera ahora la lucha por los derechos de la población LGBTI en un Brasil que va a ser gobernado por la extrema derecha Jair Bolsonaro. “Las primeras víctimas serán sin duda la población negra, LGBTI y los más pobres”, asegura en una entrevista realizada pocas horas después de la segunda vuelta electoral. A pesar del golpe de las urnas, Benicio tiene esperanza en el cambio: “Confío en que estamos construyendo una revolución, pero Brasil necesita todo el apoyo y la solidaridad de las compañeras del mundo entero”. Mônica Benicio es hoy una activista por los derechos de la población LGBTI que, sin escogerlo, se ha convertido en una figura pública como resultado del dramático episodio de la noche del 14 de marzo de 2018, cuando su compañera sentimental Marielle Franco fue asesinada. Benicio nació y creció en la misma favela de la Maré donde vivía Marielle y donde comenzaron una vida juntas. Ella también conoce el drama de vivir en el cuerpo de una mujer lesbiana y ‘favelada’. Ahora, ella está recorriendo el mundo en busca de justicia por Marielle. A pesar de las continuas amenazas sufridas, destaca que los mensajes de apoyo y solidaridad son mucho más numerosos.

Está bajo la protección especial de la Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos tras haber llevado varias denuncias de ataques violentos e intimidaciones a la Organización de Estados Americanos. No obstante, esta activista afirma que no tiene miedo y que se siente con la responsabilidad de darle continuidad a la lucha que Marielle inició, principalmente en este delicado momento político que Brasil enfrenta tras la victoria de la extrema derecha.

Jair Bolsonaro, candidato del Partido Social Liberal (PSL), ganó las elecciones presidenciales en Brasil este domingo 28 de octubre con un 55,13 por ciento de los votos válidos. Bolsonaro ha sido conocido nacional e internacionalmente por su violento discurso racista, homófobo y machista, en el que además ha hecho apología de la tortura y ha defendido la dictadura.

¿Cómo te sientes tras la victoria de Bolsonaro?

Preocupada, vienen tiempos difíciles, por los menos para los próximos cuatro años. Estoy muy preocupada.

¿Cómo valorarías el contexto político actual?

Estamos frente a una coyuntura bastante dramática. Vivimos hoy un momento de dificultad de representación y de desesperanza de la población en relación a la política. Históricamente Brasil ha sido un país reconocido por la simpatía de su pueblo, pero pasamos años ignorando que también era racista, machista y homófono. La victoria de Bolsonaro nos restriega en la cara que tenemos muchos problemas que resolver. Vamos a tener que volver a hablar sobre dictadura, o tal vez hasta pasar por ella de nuevo. Las primeras víctimas serán sin duda la población negra, LGBTI y los más pobres. Imagina la fragilidad para una persona que se encuadra dentro de todo eso, es decir, una mujer negra, pobre y lésbica. Este es un momento muy difícil y preocupante, pero ahora precisamos estar unidos para articularnos y enfrentar este desafío.

“LO QUE MÁS ME PREOCUPA NO ES BOLSONARO, SINO LAS PERSONAS QUE APOYAN ESTAS PROPUESTAS Y LEGITIMAN ESTE DISCURSO DE ODIO Y DE VIOLENCIA” Muchos de los electores de Bolsonaro le quitan importancia a su discurso y alegan que, aunque quisiese, él no conseguiría cumplir todas las barbaridades que menciona. ¿Qué opinas sobre la negación de un posible gobierno autoritario?

En nuestros libros de historia no se refleja la dimensión del fascismo y, además, nuestra educación pública está muy deteriorada. Los gobiernos siempre tuvieron interés en que la población no tenga acceso a la educación de calidad porque saben que conocimiento es poder. Lo que más me preocupa no es Bolsonaro, sino las personas que apoyan estas propuestas y legitiman este discurso de odio y de violencia. Solo juega con el fascismo quien no sabe lo que es, pero ahora estamos cerca de poder descubrirlo.

Bolsonaro amenaza a la oposición con el exilio o la prisión, pero los movimientos sociales insisten en reafirmarse bajo el estandarte de la resistencia. ¿Cómo se está organizando esta resistencia?

Es muy pronto para hablar de la estructura de las futuras resistencias y además debemos preservar la seguridad. Debemos tener mucho cuidado con lo que divulgamos, pero las manifestaciones y la ocupación de la calle para mí es la principal forma de resistencia. Debemos mostrar que existen personas articuladas e indignadas con lo que se está viviendo, que no vamos a aceptar una nueva dictadura ni un gobierno fascista. No vamos a aceptar que nuestra democracia, que fue tan duramente conquistada y aún es joven y frágil, sea destruida.

¿Qué lugar ocupan los movimientos feministas brasileños en la construcción de esta resistencia?

El movimiento feminista es ahora el más articulado y el movimiento más fuerte en todo Brasil. Las mujeres movilizadas están mostrando su gran potencial de atraer diversos movimientos transversales, lo que demostraron con creces en el evento del 29 de septiembre Ele Não (Él no). El movimiento feminista es la base de todo eso, es la base del cambio y de la revolución. Yo creo firmemente que existe una revolución en camino y que esta revolución será feminista.

“NO VAMOS A ACEPTAR QUE NUESTRA DEMOCRACIA, QUE FUE TAN DURAMENTE CONQUISTADA Y AÚN ES JOVEN Y FRÁGIL, SEA DESTRUIDA” Estas elecciones también han destacado por eventos relevantes como la victoria de Talíria Petrone, amiga de Marielle elegida diputada federal; además de la elección de tres de las antiguas asesoras de la concejala durante su mandato en la Asamblea Legislativa de Río de Janeiro, Renata Souza, Mônica Francisco y Dani Monteiro, ¿Qué representa la elección de estas cuatro figuras políticas que también son mujeres negras?

Una bonita respuesta a la bárbara noche del 14 de marzo. Sin ninguna duda, se ganaron la elección con coraje, determinación, con mucha lucha y con construcción política colectiva. Su victoria significa resistencia, significa un claro recado de que la noche del 14 de marzo no fue solo una noche de barbarie para imponernos el miedo, porque en aquella noche nos robaron tantas cosas que perdimos el miedo y por eso seguimos adelante. Ellas, mujeres negras, podrían haber interpretado el asesinato de Marielle como un recado para que se retirasen de la política, pero resistieron. Con mucha valentía ellas están colocando su cuerpo a disposición de la lucha y de la política para construir otro modelo de sociedad que era el modelo en el que Marielle creía, defendía, y por el cual murió.

Marielle Franco fue coordinadora de la Comisión de Derechos Humanos de la Alerj (Asamblea Legislativa del Estado de Río de Janeiro) durante tres años hasta que en 2016 fue elegida concejala, la quinta más votada entre todas las candidatas y candidatos municipales. ¿Cómo Marielle vivía el hecho de ser una referencia para la lucha negra, de favela y LGBTI?

Marielle era una mujer, negra, nacida en uno de los barrios más pobres de Río de Janeiro y lésbica, eso fue lo que motivó la política diferenciada que ella defendía. Marielle conocía en su ser más íntimo lo que era el dolor de intentar luchar contra estos prejuicios en la sociedad. Para ella el principio de su lucha era evitar que las generaciones futuras tuviesen que pasar lo que ella ya sufrió. El hecho de que Marielle era quien era y tener el cuerpo que tenía, era sin duda, una de las cosas que le inspiraban en su lucha.

“EL MOVIMIENTO FEMINISTA ES AHORA EL MÁS ARTICULADO Y EL MÁS FUERTE EN TODO BRASIL” Hace más de siete meses que Marielle fue asesinada, ¿en qué estado se encuentra la investigación de su caso?

La investigación está oficialmente bajo sigilo, pero yo creo que lo que el Estado brasileño nos está presentando no es sigilo sino silencio, que son cosas diferentes. Hay un trabajo de investigación que está siendo desarrollado pero aún es poco, ya llevan siete meses de investigación. Por tanto, me parece que la única alternativa es que el caso, que actualmente está siendo tratado por el Gobierno del estado de Río de Janeiro, pase a ser tratado desde el Gobierno central, incluso considerando que el futuro presidente será Bolsonaro. No se nos está dando ninguna explicación ni a la familia ni a la sociedad en general, entonces no confío en que el estado de Río de Janeiro me entregue el resultado de estas investigaciones. Lo ideal sería que yo no tuviese que pelear para ver qué órgano realmente se hace cargo del caso, sino que diversos entes deberían estar sumando fuerzas para resolver este caso cuando antes. Es una vergüenza internacional que Brasil no haya respondido en siete meses quién ordenó la muerte de Marielle.

En el campo internacional hemos recibido ayuda de Amnistía Internacional y continuamos solicitando a los gobiernos de otros países que le exijan al Estado brasileiro que por lo menos sea transparente en las investigaciones y nos muestren que están haciendo algo con seriedad y respeto para resolver este caso. ¿Quién podría tener interés en silenciar a Marielle y a las voces que ella representaba?

Marielle representaba una política extremamente nueva. Mi lucha diaria hoy es consolidar esta política para que una mujer negra también pueda entrar en ese espacio de poder, que históricamente ha sido racista, machista, homofóbico, y heteronormativo. Una transición hacia la diversidad en la política en Brasil es esencial, pero, tristemente, ahora entraremos en un momento de retroceso político.

Quién está detrás del asesinato de Marielle es alguien que cree que el cuerpo de una mujer negra y lésbica no vale nada. Incluso teniendo el título de parlamentaria, fue ejecutada a las 23 horas en la capital de Río de Janeiro en el centro de la ciudad de una forma bárbara. Además, quien lo hizo tenía la certeza de salir impune, y en Brasil solo goza de esta impunidad quien tiene gran poder político y económico.

Marielle era una figura política en ascensión, tenía un índice de rechazo muy bajo. Ella era querida, se paraba en la calle para ser abrazada y escuchar elogios de la población que representaba. A largo plazo, la figura de Marielle podía ser una amenaza para algunos por lo que ella podría llegar a convertirse como política en la historia de este país. Y ella, con su competencia técnica y su carisma, podría haber llegado a donde quisiese. Desde el lado de la vieja política no es interesante tener una figura como Marielle disputando ese espacio de poder.

Hasta ahora la única sospecha que se lanzó públicamente sobre los autores del asesinato de Marielle fue en relación a posibles grupos de milicias de la ciudad de Río de Janeiro. ¿Ha habido nuevos avances sobre estas sospechas?

Cualquier línea de investigación, que pueda ser una hipótesis fundamentada, debe ser investigada. Con lo poco que existe hoy revelado de la investigación, sería precipitado decir que fue un grupo u otro. También porque la milicia hoy es un grupo muy fuerte, sobre todo en Río de Janeiro y debe ser tratado con mucho cuidado, como todo grupo paramilitar. Sería además reducido que fue simplemente una milicia, una entidad sin cuerpo, solo para encontrar un culpable. Tenemos que perseguir todas las pistas pero con mucho cuidado para no hacer acusaciones a la ligera y entregar al mundo una respuesta de quién mató Marielle solo para cerrar y silenciar este caso.

¿Te gustaría mandar un mensaje a las mujeres feministas de otros países?

El asesinato de Marielle fue una muestra de la amenaza fascista que ahora ensombrece Brasil. Pero me gustaría lanzar un pedido a todas las mujeres: ahora más que nunca os pido que caminemos de la mano. Confío en que estamos construyendo una revolución, pero Brasil necesita todo el apoyo y la solidaridad de las compañeras del mundo entero. Os pido, con cariño, que no nos abandonen.

Quatro amigas de Marielle são eleitas deputadas no Rio

Ainda um mistério que desafia a polícia e inquieta o Rio, o assassinato da vereadora Marielle Franco, em março, reverberou no resultado das eleições 2018 no Estado. Quatro amigas e ex-assessoras da representante da favela da Maré vão ocupar, agora, três cadeiras na Assembleia Legislativa e uma na Câmara.

Talíria Petrone, Renata Souza, Mônica Francisco e Dani Monteiro, todas pautadas por lutas identitárias, também foram eleitas pelo PSOL - partido de Marielle e que corria o risco de não mais ter acesso ao Fundo Partidário e tempo de rádio e TV na propaganda eleitoral, o que não aconteceu.

Talíria foi a 9.ª deputada federal mais votada no Estado, somando 107.317 votos válidos, 1,39%). As ativistas Renata (63 937), Mônica (40.631) e Dani (27.982) ocuparam, respectivamente, a 9.ª, 28.ª e 48.ª posições na Assembleia. Afora a enfermeira Rejane, eleita na 39.ª colocação, as três deputadas estaduais ligadas à Marielle foram as únicas a se autodeclararem pretas.

Na Câmara, além de Talíria, somente a deputada federal Rosângela Gomes afirma-se negra. Ela foi eleita com 63.952 dos votos válidos e ficou 17ª posição.

Após fechamento das urnas, as deputadas estaduais manifestaram-se no Twitter. "Honramos a memória de Marielle Franco. Sou uma das três mulheres negras do PSOL eleita para a Alerj. Nunca mais estaremos sozinhas nos espaços de poder", afirma Renata.

"Foi só o começo de algo que a gente já começou há muito tempo, de uma nova política que tentaram silenciar e não conseguiram", pontua Dani.

Pesquisadora e socióloga, Mônica Francisco, via Instagram, comemorou sua eleição e compartilhou vídeo que comemora, também, a vitória de Erica Malunguinho, primeira mulher trans a ser eleita deputada estadual no País, com 55.223 votos válidos em São Paulo (74ª). "É felicidade que não me cabe! É representatividade que chama!", enfatiza.

A menos de una semana de haber sido sancionado con la Ley Global Magnitsky, Francisco López Centeno, tesorero del gobernante Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional (FSLN) renunció a sus cargos de presidente de las juntas directivas de Petróleos de Nicaragua (Petronic) y de la Empresa Nicaragüense de Minas (Eniminas), en esta última ostentaba el rango de ministro.
