DID NOT KNOW THIS UNTIL TODAY BUT OH MY GOD??
robert carlyle has confirmed that there’s a script for an upcoming series specifically about begbie and based on irvine welsh’s book “the blade artist.”
it’s gonna be six parts and they’re making lots of adjustments to the script that’s already been written, BUT MAN THATS WORTH THE WAIT.
WAS NOT EXPECTING MORE BEGBIE BUT YES OMG IM SO HERE FOR IT

I STILL GOT THOUGHTS ABOUT FRANCO
he's such a masterful exploration of toxic masculinity i think about it all the time. his whole character revolves around a crushing inferiority complex and a need to overcompensate and it's so brilliantly done in every aspect from the writing in the books to the casting in the movies. he's a few years the others' senior, yet he's scrawnier than any of them, even the ones at the heights of addiction. he's dyslexic, and that never got addressed, so he got held back in school-- which lead to bullying and is how he met renton, how they became brothers. and renton's smart, he's always been-- franco might've been "smart" too, had he been given help, but without it he gave all that up and fixated on brute force. he's by all means the runt of the litter, but he let that drive him to such depths of rage that he became the scariest of them all.
i fully believe he's never touched any drugs not because of any sort of moral stance, but because he doesn't need them. he's already addicted to breaking everything and especially everyone that falls into his hands, and it's maybe even more dangerous than his mates' addiction, because it's free, it doesn't deteriorate his body, it doesn't leave marks, and it only hurts the people getting the business end of his fists. there's no TV campaigns against it, no catchy slogans-- nothing to make franco look in the mirror and consider recovery. because might makes right; he's a man, dammit, don't you see it? don't you believe him? then he'll make you understand. he'll teach you to look down on him.
