Glenn Maxwell Set To Quit Melbourne Stars Captaincy Role
Tumblr media
Glenn Maxwell: Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has decided to relinquish the captaincy of the Melbourne Stars. The announcement comes in the wake of the Stars' failure to secure a spot in the finals for the fourth consecutive year, says a report.According to cricket.com.au Maxwell shared his decision with the Stars' squad after a narrow seven-run defeat to the Hobart Hurricanes in their final game of KFC BBL 13. Despite a commendable effort in the middle of the season, where they secured four consecutive victories, the Stars stumbled in their last three games, sealing their fate outside the finals race. The 33-year-old Maxwell took charge of the Stars ahead of BBL 08, succeeding John Hastings as captain. In his five seasons at the helm, Maxwell led the team to the final in his first two seasons but couldn't secure the elusive title, succumbing to the Renegades and the Sixers in BBL 08 and BBL 09, respectively. Maxwell's captaincy record stands at 35 wins and 31 losses, with the dynamic all-rounder missing the entire BBL 12 season due to a broken leg. His decision to step down from captaincy doesn't mark the end of his association with the Stars, as he remains contracted with the team until the conclusion of BBL 15. The search for Maxwell's successor is already underway, and Marcus Stoinis emerges as a potential candidate. Stoinis, who filled in for Maxwell when he was sidelined with a torn forearm muscle earlier in the season, is, however, currently out of contract. Reflecting on the season and Maxwell's leadership, the Stars' new English coach, Peter Moores, expressed his admiration for the outgoing captain. Despite a frustrating end to the season, Moores commended Maxwell for his enthusiasm and drive, especially after the highs of the recent World Cup. Moores told Fox Cricket during the Stars' final match against the Hurricanes that he'd loved his first year in the Big Bash, albeit with a "frustrating" finish after failing to take their chance of qualifying for the finals. He also said Maxwell had been "fantastic to work with" as captain. Maxwell, in a pre-match interview before the clash with the Hurricanes, acknowledged the team's progress under Moores' coaching. He emphasized the need to start the tournament better, addressing a historical issue, and praised Moores for instilling a sense of calm in the dressing room. "I feel like we've made some really good strides this year," he told Fox Cricket. 'Mooresy' has been an outstanding addition as coach and the level of calm he's spread throughout the changeroom has been outstanding. "We've just got to find a way to start the tournament better, and it's been an issue that we've had for a long period of time. "But the fact that we were able to turn it around and get those wins through the middle was a sign that we are moving in the right direction, we've just got to try and do that for a little bit longer." Shane Warne 8/12/21 Portrait taken on the first day of the Australian Ashes series at Foxsports studios Sydney. I didn't have long with Shane and usually make small talk with people we shoot. I asked him what he thought about the test and he replied "a fast games a good game". A reflection of his life. His energy was positive and infectious as they all say he sprinkled magic everwhere he went. A true Australian legend, Rip Warnie. India vs Australia: Shane Warne criticised for ugly commentary for suggesting the bowler to "try to rip Pujara’s helmet off"
India vs Australia: Shane Warne criticised for ugly commentary for suggesting the bowler to “try to rip Pujara’s helmet off”
While doing commentary on day five of the fourth Test match between India and Australia, Warne crossed the line as he got too excited when Cheteshwar Pujara was tried to leave the short-pitched bouncer from Josh Hazlewood. It was during that delivery when the former Aussie spinner could be heard suggesting the bowler to “rip that helmet off”. Hey @FoxCricket . How can you let shane warne talk…

Adam Gilchrist Backs Alex Carey To Reclaim White-ball Spot Via Tests Against Pakistan
Tumblr media
Boxing Day Test: Australia’s legendary wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist has backed Alex Carey to reclaim his spot in the side’s white-ball team via the ongoing Test series against Pakistan. Carey is unbeaten on 16 at stumps on day three of the Boxing Day Test. His form with the bat has dipped since inflicting the stumping of Jonny Bairstow during this year’s Ashes Test at Lord’s, which sparked a huge furore. Though he’s been strong behind the stumps, Carey is yet to hit a fifty in Tests since the first Ashes game at Birmingham. “I actually like the fact that he has spoken so openly about his desire to get back into that white ball team. I see no reason for him to shut down that goal. I don’t think it changes anything in his life by the way he goes about his cricket, the way he trains.” “I don’t think he sits at home and worries about it, so it is not draining him of mental energy and perhaps affecting his Test cricket. I think it is terrific. He is hungry to play for Australia as much as he possibly can and if it never happens again, it won’t be through a lack of trying.” “I think being incentivised to keep improving and keep developing will only enhance his Test cricket as well, even if it is using white ball cricket as a motivation,” said Gilchrist on Fox Cricket’s The Follow On podcast. Carey also had a lean time with ODIs in 2023, and after the opening match of the Men’s ODI World Cup against India at Chennai, he was sidelined with Josh Inglis coming in. Gilchrist, who gave Carey his ‘Baggy Green’ cap ahead of his Test debut against England in 2021, felt the selection panel was right in opting for Inglis over Carey for the majority of World Cup campaign in India. “The decision by the selectors to go with Josh Inglis in the World Cup was justified. He contributed nicely to that World Cup win. But I think Alex Carey would have done a very serviceable job there as well. Credit to the selectors.” “They had something in mind with it and they have a World Cup to show for it, but that should not put Alex Carey off. I think he is a good all-round cricketer and I would say the main thing is that his work ethic is unrelenting and he will do that whether he is playing one day cricket or not. But I would say keep the dream alive, because that inspires him,” he concluded. Read the full article

People Are Making Themselves And Various Celebrities Instantly Grow Old With The Viral Faceapp’s Filter Challenge (69 Pics)
It seems that most of these internet ‘challenges’ amount to little more than an excuse for people to share yet another photo of themselves. The latest is the ‘age challenge,’ in which people are encouraged to use the Faceapp old age filter on a selfie and share it with the world.
We’ve already featured the baby filter and gender-swap ‘viral sensations,’ where people played around with themselves and celebrities too, so now, obviously, it’s the turn of the oldies. Faceapp uses neural networks to modify a face on any photo while keeping it photorealistic, in this case adding the signs of aging including wrinkles, grey hair and sagging skin. How well it works remains to be seen, I guess we’ll find out in the future!
Would you give it a try? Scroll down to see how others are looking in a few decades time, and let us know what you think in the comments!

'Entitled To His Opinion', Warner Responds To Johnson’s Criticism
Tumblr media
The West Australian: Australia's David Warner has said that his former team-mate Mitchell Johnson is entitled to his opinion, however scathing, about the opener's retirement plans.Warner said Johnson was “entitled to opinion” after the pacer expressed his disapproval in a column for The West Australian, questioning over why the left-handed opener is getting a hero’s send-off while still not owning up to his role in the infamous 2018 ball-tampering scandal. As Australian captain Pat Cummins declared that the Test team would be "fiercely protective" of the seasoned opener in the event of outside assaults, Warner refrained from adding gasoline to the flames. "It wouldn't be a summer without a headline, would it?" said Warner at the launch of Fox Cricket's summer coverage in Parramatta on Friday. "It is what it is. Everyone's entitled to their own opinions. Moving forward, we're looking forward to a nice Test over in the west." Warner, focused on ending his career on a high, said he learned long ago to knuckle down in the face of criticism like Johnson's. "My parents ingrained that into me," he said. "They taught me every day to fight and work hard. When you go onto the world stage and you don't realise what comes with that, it's a lot of media, a lot of criticism but a lot of positive. "I think what's more important is what you see here today, the people coming out to support cricket." Warner has only scored one Test century in 25 matches since the summer of 2020–21; that century came in his 100th Test at the MCG in late 2022 when he amassed a remarkable double-hundred against South Africa. Australian selectors have been loyal to Warner over the rough patch, which has undoubtedly included two dismissals in the 1990s, and are currently deciding who would replace him after Sydney. The team has shown to be just as encouraging lately. Read the full article
