Wausau mall redevelopment project extended, but questions remain over funding and viability
A more detailed analysis of the deal extended by the city, questions over funding and how development agreements are meant to be vetted in Wausau:
By Damakant Jayshi and Shereen Siewert The City Council on Tuesday approved an extension to a development agreement for The Foundry on 3rd project to build 154 market-rate apartments and commercial space at the site of the former Wausau Center mall. The approval comes despite a lack of funding details from the team’s development analyst, Nick Patterson, who did not state categorically whether…

oh my god i did it, i beat cazador after actually watching the cutscene and rescuing astarion from the ritual
#im gonna cry it felt so great AAAAAAA last time it felt so cheesy bc of just attacking without the cutscene#every SINGLE line of dialogue after the battle felt infinitely more satisfying and earned now#all of this made the 3rd romance scene and the convo the next morning that much more emotional as well#anyway my character just ignored all the enemies and rushed to free him. took a shot of adrenaline and double dimension doored#them both all the way to the top half of the stairs LMAO so still very cheesy but hey its the mechanics available in the game so 🤷#and thus today i learned that counterspell doesnt break sanctuary and lethargy doesnt break concentration#(even tho ppl on the forums said it did ⚰️)#im just feeling great rn. bc im on tactician and yesterday i managed to beat the dragon despite not even hearing abt it last time#and now this. im off to the house of hope next. which feels so wrong in this (more or less) mid point of act 3#but i rlly need to do the steel foundry orin gortash and the murder guy in the underground business in a row in that order#so id like to actually make use of the cloak from the devils fee secret inventory for more than the final battle 💀

Actually fucking nuts. Capitalism ruins everything.
Push back against this. Be loud. Use #OpenDnD liberally.
Staying in 5e and ignoring 6e/"OneDnD" is not an option. I'll try to summarize below the cut, but I'm not an expert, so please seek out resources that aren't me for full info. This link is a good start. This is the full deep-dive I read up on a few days ago. Listening to the community is also worthwhile to understand from the voices of those affected most. To be more involved in the discussion yourself, a lawyer has set up a Discord server for the community to gather and converse in regarding this issue.
Again, for full context and information from more knowledgeable sources than me (including actual professionals), please go to the links I included above. If you don't have the time/patience/spoons to read those articles, scroll a twitter feed, or poke around a Discord server though, here are the things that made the most potent impression on me and why you should care about this issue.
As mentioned, staying in 5e and ignoring 6e/"OneDnD" is not an option. While OGL1.1 was made for 6e, the extensive parts of the document that have been leaked make it clear that with OGL1.1 going into effect, OGL1.0a (which has been the OGL for the past decade) will no longer be functional. 3rd party creators must choose to either sign the OGL1.1 and comply with it's insanely restrictive and predatory terms, or face legal repercussions for publishing the content they have made their livelihoods off of the past decade.
Per the leaked document, all 3rd party creators must register themselves and their creations with WotC. - 3rd party creators making over $50,000 USD per year must also report their earnings to WotC. - 3rd party creators making over $750,000 USD gross per year must also pay WotC a 25% royalty. This means it is not 750k in profits, it is 750k before any expenses that they are taking the royalties from. Anyone whose profit margin was 25% or less would be financially invalidated by this royalty, and can even end up losing money. Furthermore, the nature of Kickstarters for example is that there is no upper ceiling on earnings, so a KS for a 3rd party sourcebook will suddenly be facing a massive expense they may not have planned for if their campaign exceeds the 750k mark, potentially destroying their ability to deliver on the rewards when they otherwise could have. While currently only a small number of creators are known to make over 750k/year (gross, not net), that does not mean this will not affect you. It creates a very dire argument for why 3rd party creators should not even make the effort in the first place, especially with crowdfunding where too much success can suddenly ruin them.
Remember how those who make over 50k have to report their earnings? Well, the 750k threshold is one WotC says they have the right to change at any time in OGL1.1. This means they can see what people are making when creators are forced to report their earnings over 50k, and use that data to lower the threshold of income for their royalty fee, and they can do this at any time, however much they want. Per OGL1.1, they are telling you that they can decide on a whim that actually, anyone making over $5,000 USD gross a year has to pay the 25% royalty.
D&DBeyond / OneDnD are working towards creating a VTT to host OneDnD/6e. While Roll20 is licensed by WotC if I'm not mistaken, virtually no other VTT is. Platforms like Foundry VTT (my personal favorite and most beloved VTT) will not be able to host the D&D system on them under OGL1.1. What does that mean? Hard to say. But it will objectively become much harder to play D&D outside of WotC-approved spaces in the near future, and that is by design. They want to monopolize how this game is played, and that means making it difficult, inconvenient, or even illegal to play the game outside of their personal playground.
Under OGL1.1, WotC claims full and complete ownership over any and all 3rd party content created for D&D, and the rights to use it however, whenever, and wherever they want without paying you royalties. You made this? Hasbro made this.
I've only ever played 5e. But this link I put up above was very informative about prior editions and the drama surrounding them. 3e had an OGL, and the community began to flourish with 3rd party content. WotC didn't like that people who weren't them were making money off a passion for D&D, and they regretted the OGL--but that OGL was irrevocable, and could not be cancelled, removed, or in any way undone. So they put together 3.5e. They promised 3.5e would be backwards compatible, and all your resources for 3e would still work for it. So people jumped to 3.5e, only to find all their 3e content was now worthless, because that hadn't been true. And 3.5e, of course, did away with that open and welcoming OGL from 3e. Sound familiar? "OneDnD" is touted to be backwards compatible. And yet also comes with crushing restrictions in their OGL1.1 that make it impossible for the D&D community to exist as it has been. It is transparently clear that for WotC/Hasbro, an ideal world would be one where all the money people have spent on flourishing this community over the last decade would have gone exclusively into their pockets. D&D makes hundreds of millions every year, but it's "under monetized" according to their new CEO. It doesn't matter if "Honor Among Thieves" flops at the box office, WotC has already green-lit the production of multiple D&D movies. It's not about fanservice, it's about fan exploitation. Because they can't fucking stand that the game they made can be played obsessively and passionately for decades with only the one-time purchases of the DMG and PHB. And instead of fixing the apparent "under-monetization" problem by publishing more official content, they choose to poach 3rd party creators. The very lifeblood that has caused D&D's success. Because capitalist greed is a soulless poison to whatever it fixes its attention on.
The only way the community has any shot in hell to fight this is if the pushback is intense and loud. WotC has released statements mentioning an openness to listening to the community and revising their choices based on feedback; whether that proves to be lip service or not remains to be seen, but either way: the only thing they seem to care about is money. Fine, let your money do the talking, then. Wholeheartedly support the boycott. Proclaim your support of it loudly. Let Hasbro know that their attempts to milk more profits out of this franchise will be the very thing that kills it if they don't ease the fuck back and allow OGL1.0a to persist. They apparently didn't learn shit when this happened in 3e/3.5e. They can either wise up now before they fuck up beyond repair, or they can be fully destroyed by their own greed. Time will tell.
Edit:
Good catch, thanks! You're right, I must have had some wires crossed when writing that bit. They couldn't revoke it, but they did publish new content for 3.5e that made 3.0e content feel worthless; this is not something I personally lived through, but is based on the reporting from this second article I linked. Likewise, that article explains how 4e did not have an OGL and was consequentially a bit of a wasteland, presumably prompting WotC to bring the OGL back for 5e. Which flourished. And now we're here.
Edit II:
I'm Super not the best source of information for this because I'm absolutely all over the place, but 2 things.
Please check out OpenDnD.games for full, proper info and a place to give your signature in support of the community's pushback.
Something else I failed to mention above: OGL1.1 has a "poison pill" clause. Anyone who signs it permanently forfeits their right to publish under prior versions of the OGL, even if they are unable to take down those prior versions. DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING FOR OGL1.1. Even if the community pushback yields results, you may have trapped yourself. "Predatory" does not even begin to cover it.

Gortash week day 7: Suffer
This is a preview of part 2 of Love Is A Tyrant, my AU Durgetash Gortash redemption arc fic.
This scene is the Gortash & Orin confrontation after she attacks Durge, plus some after the changeling sods off.
The 3rd of Nightal, 1491 DR
Enver Gortash was in the Steel Watch Foundry, sitting in an office, pondering what he should have for lunch as he checked reports on Watcher performance, determining where to best allocate the massive funds that had been approved to aid construction of his army of automatons, when a red-haired gnome rapped on the half open door.
'What is it?’ He said in his gruff, authoritative voice.
‘A visitor, Director Gortash, sir,’ the gnome said nervously. ‘She's calling herself the… Chosen of Bhaal?’
‘Oh!’ He replied more cheerily, ‘Send her in… please.’ Then he pondered quietly to himself, ‘Why not just give her name?’
‘Through there,’ the gnome said meekly, then scampered away, terrified. The newly appointed lord frowned at the tone in his employee's voice.
Without looking up, Gortash asked, hearing slightly odd-sounding footsteps behind him, ‘Happy as I am that you're home early, D, why did you come to the Foundry? Did you miss me that much?’ His flirtatious grin vanished as he looked over his shoulder and saw Orin standing there, both hands behind her back, silent as the grave, smiling at him like a mad parody of a harlequin.
Standing bolt upright and turning to face her, he demanded, ‘Orin?! What the Hells are you doing here? And why are you calling yourself the Chosen? Where's D?’
Still silent, her black lips curled in a devious grin, she took her right hand from behind her back, showing him the red dagger, its stone glowing faintly. ‘Because I am the Chosen. The mantle has passed,’ she declared, still grinning.
‘Where is she?!’ He roared, taking an angry step toward her, fists clenched hard enough that the clawed fingertips of his gauntlet and rings pierced the skin of his palms.
Unthreatened, Orin raised her brows in mock sympathy and asked, ‘Did the toy get attached to his little mommy? How deliciously tragic!’ What had she done?!
She continued, holding the blade in front of her, ‘The pact between our gods stands. I'll be replacing my unworthy bloodkin,’ she announced, then wrinkled her nose as she looked him up and down, adding, ‘though not in every way. I shall be the pure, almighty voice of Bhaal in your ears now, and I require no trinkets.’
Taking her other hand from behind her back, she then opened it, a heart-shaped locket dangling from her fingers. He immediately snatched it from her hand, eyes wide with fury, less than an arm's length between them. Her dagger was instantly under his chin, its point a hair's breadth from his throat.
Gortash didn't blink as he vowed, ‘Tell me where she is RIGHT NOW! Or pact or no pact, I will kill you where you stand.’ He tapped her hip with what he held in his left hand at the same time as he put the piece of jewelry into his pocket to free up the other hand. Her eyes darted down for a second, growing a bit wider as she saw the small but very powerful explosive he held in a hand that slowly dripped blood onto the stone floor with a faint slapping noise.
‘You wouldn't,’ she dared, fighting the urge to murder that flooded her at the scent of his blood, ‘you'll kill us both with that thing.’
‘Maybe…’ he said, his dark eyes unreadable to the changeling. ‘You'll be just as dead.’ Orin backed down, taking the point of the blade away from his neck.
Gortash didn't move. In a lower, more threatening tone than Orin had ever heard from him, he said, ‘Answer or die. Your choice.’ As she attempted to step back, he grabbed her by the throat, the claws of the gauntlet requiring only the slightest bit more pressure to open her veins. Her dagger was back in its former position, lighting quick, her other hand on his wrist, fighting against the one at her throat, but she couldn't move it.
‘Last chance, Orin,’ he said as he scratched the metal casing of the bomb with the fingertip ring on his third finger, creating a spark that lit the fuse. It was lined with flint for that specific purpose.
‘I don't know,’ she admitted through clenched teeth as the fuse sizzled. ‘I humiliated her… she was alive when I left her and gone when I returned.’ Gortash shoved her away from him and twisted the fuse off the bomb as he scrambled to organize his thoughts amid the panic that threatened to rise.
Rubbing her throat as she stumbled backward, Orin said, ‘She probably ran off with her tail between her legs. A disgraced scion has no place among loyal Bhaalists. You've more backbone than I thought, toy. Try that again, and I'll flense the flesh from your bones… without killing you.’
‘Get out!’ He bellowed as he pointed to the exit, splattering a line of blood onto the floor.
Orin narrowed her eyes at him, then sauntered out of the office, slamming the door on the way out.
Once she was gone, Gortash turned, screamed in rage, and punched a hole in a wooden crate near the door. Breathing heavily, he stumbled backward, letting the fuse-less bomb drop to the floor as his back hit the wall. He took out the locket and held it in his bloody hands, noting the broken clasp. He opened it, holding his breath, then he looked inside, winced, and closed it. He banged the back of his head against the wall and slid down it until he was sitting on the floor.
As he held the locket to his chest, he said, ‘Where are you?’ A few tears squeezed out of the corners of his eyes.
After a few moments, he got up, straightened his vest, careful not to get blood on it, and walked to a water barrel, pried the top off, and filled a bucket. His every movement was deliberate, narrowing his perception down to only the thought of the next action in the sequence. No deviation, no branching ideas. Every step was the only thing happening. Nothing else was real. He couldn't let his mind wander.
He placed the bucket on a crate and dipped his hands and the locket into it, gently rubbing his blood away from the intricate designs he'd spent weeks crafting. Surrounding the gemstone, non-flowering wisteria vines climbed from the bottom, shaped from strings of gold he had smelted, twisted, and tapped into leaves. The vines flowered at the sides of the heart, their blooms the most technically difficult part of the locket's construction, because they were so tiny. Carved flames licked the tops of each side of the heart. He made sure every detail was clean.
Wisteria couldn't flower without enough light, but it was strong and hardy; it could survive the dark and the dead of winter. In the light, it became one of the most beautiful flowers he'd ever seen. She wasn't dead. Whatever Orin had done, she wasn't dead… was she?
Gortash shook his head, pushing the thought away. He found a cloth on a small cabinet, dried his hands with it, and carefully blotted the locket. Then he tucked away his lover's keepsake in a pouch on his hip.
He wiped his face with the cleanest part of the cloth, and walked slowly to a liquor cabinet next to the desk. He poured a glass of whiskey and drank it. Then another. And another. Then he drank straight from the bottle, until it was empty. It had started out half-full. Right before he left the office, he stopped short as he remembered. He went back to the cabinet, poured a glass of water and drank it. For her.
As he exited the Foundry, Gortash huddled into his coat, grateful he'd brought a scarf that morning. It was nearly Highsun, the light a blinding winter bright, yet it was still cold enough that he could see his breath. He waited anxiously for the Flaming Fist mercenary that patrolled outside to see him. The merc had short brown hair and a long scar on his left cheek. He approached, glancing about, and said gruffly, ‘Afternoon, sir. Can I help with something?’
‘You can indeed,’ Gortash replied, his false cheerful tone working on the merc, who smiled. ‘You Fist mercs gather somewhere and relax, drink, and make merry so to speak, don't you?’
‘We do,’ the merc agreed skeptically, rubbing his cold hands together.
‘Not everyone in these circles is part of the Fist, are they?’ he ventured, though he knew the answer already, having bribed dozens of them over the years.
‘That's right,’ the Fist replied, then breathed on his hands to warm them before rubbing them together again.
‘I need someone found,’ the inventor said. ‘I'm looking to hire someone smart, brave, resilient, and discreet for this task. They will need to travel outside Baldur's Gate.’ He pulled a small leather notebook and a pencil from the inside pocket of his coat. Careful to keep his palms from being seen or touching the paper, as they still oozed blood, he wrote in very precise script, then carefully tore the paper from the notebook and offered it to the merc, saying, ‘Send anyone capable to this address.’
Once the merc took it, Gortash held up a pouch that clinked with coins. ‘This is for spreading the word. You'll get another just like it once I hire someone for the job. What's your name?’
‘Kurtz, sir,’ he replied, taking the gold.
‘Should they be successful, you'll get ten times that,’ he assured, emphasizing the increase with a hand gesture.
‘What’ll they get?’ Kurtz asked, raising an eyebrow.
‘They will be very well compensated,’ he answered, folding his hands together in front of his body.
‘I'd like to be very well compensated,’ the merc said with a smile. ‘Why not hire me for the job?’
‘Because you let the second most prolific murderer in the city into my Foundry without noticing a single thing amiss,’ Gortash replied flatly with a humorless smile, as Kurtz's eyes widened in alarm, ‘You're not observant enough for this job. Send me someone who is, and you'll be well paid for minimal effort. It's what you Fist do best, isn't it?’
Kurtz narrowed his eyes at the insult.
‘Come now, you are what you are, and you have your uses,’ Gortash said patronizingly, tilting his head to one side. ‘Pretending to be otherwise is unseemly… and unnecessary. Do as I've asked or return the gold. Simple enough.’
‘I could keep the gold and do nothing. For the disrespect,’ he smirked as he said it, his hand near his sword.
‘You could indeed. You can't swim, can you, Kurtz?’ Gortash asked, meeting the merc's eyes. His smirk wilted. ‘You stay further from the water than any other Fist who patrols down here, and you gave it a nervous glance as you approached me. The water is quite deep below this section of the pier. Scale armor makes for wonderful protection… but it is terribly heavy, isn't it?’
He took a step toward Kurtz, who swallowed hard but held his ground. ‘I don't care about one hundred gold, but I do care about respect. Respect is earned by one's actions. It is not given freely because a person has a title given to any idiot who can hold a sword properly. If the Flaming Fist truly lived up to what Ulder Ravengard thinks they do, speaking the truth to one of their number would never be considered disrespectful. Either you can rescind your erroneous comments about disrespect, or you are calling a War Counselor a liar to his face. Choose wisely.’
‘Apologies, s-sir,’ he stammered. ‘R-rescinded. What is… your n-name?’
‘Lord Enver Gortash.’
‘Gods!’ the merc exclaimed, his eyes wide. His whole demeanor changed. ‘Why didn't you say that straightaway? It's done, sir. I know at least three who could manage it. I'll ask them to come round tomorrow?’
‘The sooner, the better.’
‘Tonight then, sir?’ The sudden desperation to please him in the merc's tone was a change he might have relished once. Today, it inspired mild disgust.
‘Perfect,’ Gortash said with all the false pleasure the irrelevants expected from him. ‘You should learn to swim, Kurtz, as soon as possible,’ he advised. Then he glanced over the merc’s shoulder and added, ‘Come along, Silence.’
A shorter than usual Steel Watcher painted solid black, with none of the ornate details of the ones being manufactured suddenly became visible behind Kurtz. Instead of the usual weapons, the automaton had very long, sharp claws, five on the hands of its longest set of arms, though it had six arms in total. Among its other unique qualities, the construct had some semblance of a face, though metal and lacking any expression. Its sudden appearance so startled the merc that he lost his balance and teetered near the edge of the boardwalk.
Gortash caught him by his collar and pulled him back from the edge. ‘I’m serious,’ he reiterated, ‘learn to swim.’
Kurtz nodded vigorously, backing away from the edge, a smear of the lord's blood on his armor.
As Gortash walked away from the Foundry, he said, ‘I may need you to shadow me indefinitely, my friend.’
‘Yes, sir. D is usually at your side, isn't she?’ they asked.
‘She is… unavoidably… delayed.’ He tried and failed to keep the emotion from coming through in his voice.
‘Understood,’ Silence stated, then commented, ‘Your hands are bleeding, sir.’
‘I know,’ he replied, and kept walking, only an occasional drop of blood falling to the wooden planks of the boardwalk. It was slowing.
‘May I suggest you imbibe a healing potion?’ they asked, following as noiselessly as their name indicated.
‘Not until it stops hurting,’ he replied quietly.
‘Will the potion not accomplish that?’ the automaton asked.
‘It will.’
‘Ah,’ Silence paused, then inquired, ‘Shall I re-engage stealth?’
Gortash nodded. The agile, spider-like Steel Watcher vanished.
‘Shall we communicate non-verbally, sir?’ Silence asked.
‘If you like.’
‘Has Rusty reported back?’ they inquired.
‘No. Either she's still out of range, or… If Orin got to D… I can't think about… either of them. I have to plan.’
Silence wondered whether or not their master knew that when he used D's name telepathically, it came to them as a ragged, howling scream, a blissful whisper, and an almost incoherent sob all at once.

MAMUZZY READS HARD CONTACT: Prologue
I said I would write about Prologue + Chapter 1 in one single post, but then I ended up actually having more topics to talk about in this chapter. :) It was quite a new information for me that Hard Contact (2004) came out earlier than the game itself (2005 which is also the year of the Revenge of the Sith) which means...
Hard Contact Prologue is actually the first entry of not just Darman but the Delta Squad too!
What you will find here - First glimpses of Darman - First appearance of the Delta Squad - Comparing the events of the book to the game - Commando Squad culture: Names - First differences spotted between Kal Skirata's and Walon Vau's training method
The prologue is using 1st POV in present tense while the rest of the book uses 3rd Past tense. Prologues being in this format actually became a tradition throughout the series, we see different character's povs in the beginning of each book.
I actually have personal preferences for 1st person compared to 3rd person, so I didn't find this disturbing and honestly, it really helped me to get immersed and invested in right away in the character.
This is the first appearance of Darman (RC-1136), member of the Theta Squad and we see the partial events of the Battle of Geonosis through his eyes. The chapter was short, you don't really get the details about their mission objectives, on the other hand it was a really good presentation of a soldier who only has the current task in front of him, and nothing else and using first person view was actually a good choice for this effect.
Also, the memories of the game's first level and Battlefront (classic!) geonosian mission emerged from the depth of my mind, making me reminded why I ragequit all those years ago. :D It was brutal, it was chaotic and unforgiving.
I really liked this starting sentence. Raw, no-nonsense like Darman himself.
If your are not sure about how much bomb you need, use a lot. :DDD And this P for plenty is also a returning common saying throughout the series. Later we actually get to know that Darman is the demolition expert of the team.
The events of the books and the game differ from each other, but Darman is mentioned, so does their mission objective:
Delta Squad's original mission was killing Sun Fac, chief-advisor of Poggle the Lesser, Archduke of Geonosis, and then they were tasked to finish what the Theta squad couldn't. The game is implicating that Darman's squad was already wiped out by this time.
In the books, they are actually communicating, Darman's squad is just about to break in to the Foundry and the Deltas waited for Theta to detonate. Though he wasn't named, Boss is on the other side of the line:
First conversation between clone babus and they are already bickering. :D I love them so much. Interestingly all the Clone demomen are enthusiastically loves to rearrange architechture (as Boss would say), like Scorch or Wrecker, so compared to them, Darman is actually pretty chill even under the pressure of time and an annoying Delta on his back. :D /affectionate
Because I replayed the first mission of the game just for the sole reason I got myself those quotes, while playing and rewatching the captured video, I realized something: Boss rarely called the team members by their choosen/given names or numbers. Scorch calls him Boss, Sev refered him as 'Eight, Fixer calls him Sir which is already giving away some crumbs about their personality too. But Boss always says Deltas. Clone advisors also refer them as Deltas, or Boss as Delta Lead.
But also referring the other squad as Theta, while Darman calls him Delta.
It really got me thinking about this chapter-starting quote later in the books:
It really got me the thinking that Clone Commandos are not particularly taking pride in individuality or at least it's not the priority.
As four-people they are squad. Alone, they are nothing. If you think about it, the Commando squad are highly elite soldiers and their purpose was together team being basicly a four-men-army and do the jobs a regular trooper can't. They were trained to act together, work together, think together, and encouraged to look after each other. Refering them as a whole is not considered as an insult to their individuality.
Meaning, there is no "I", there is no "you", there is only "we" and "us" as a whole.
I want to talk about this topic in the chapter 1 further because in there there is actually mentioning what is the difference between a Clone Commando and a regular trooper, but regarding names it is already an interesting discovery.
But there is already a difference between Delta and Theta. Though you won't know it from this chapter, but Delta is trained by Walon Vau while Thetas are Kal Skirata's trainees and they are known to had entirely different views on how clone cadets should be trained and handled.
Darman refers the member of the Delta Squad as Delta, but his own squadmates by their names even in the narrative, that's why we know the other Thetas are called Taler, Vin and Jay.
This is implicating a less hierarchical structure within their squad and the only way you know that Taler is the sergeant because he gives the shots. Darman also didn't refer Taler as sergeant.
Out of curiosity I checked if wookiepedia has something more about them, and I was able to find their designation numbers:
- RC-1133, Clone Commando Sergeant Taler - RC-1134, Vin - RC-1135, Jay - RC-1136, Darman (SQUADBABYSQUADBABYSQUADBABYSQU-)
Speaking of designation numbers, Boss's number (1138) is actually an easter egg, a constantly recurring number in the Star Wars universe.
Chapter 1 will have another heartbreaking relevation about the names, so I will continue this there.
As for the rest of the chapter? Darman stays behind with E-Web and watches the rest of the Theta die. :'))))
I hope you enjoyed the first entry of my blogging! ^^
I really didn't think I could actually gather content for the prologue but when I saw on the wiki that Darman's name mentioned in the game, I really got inspired to include the game content as well!
Thinking about collecting and mentioning instances of when Dave Filoni smuggled aspects from Repcomm into the TCW or Bad Batch too.

On 5th April 1820 government forces defeated Radical weavers at what became known as the Battle of Bonnymuir.
The ‘Radical Rising’ or ‘Radical War’ of 1820, also known as the Scottish Insurrection of 1820, was a week of strikes and unrest in Scotland that culminated in the trial of a number of ‘radicals’ for the crime of treason. It was the last armed uprising on Scottish soil, with the intent of establishing a radical republic.
Based in Central Scotland, artisan workers (such as weavers, shoemakers, blacksmiths), initiated a series of strikes and social unrest during the first week of April 1820. This pushed for government reform, in response to the economic depression. The Rising was quickly, and violently, quashed, and the subsequent trials took place in Scotland from July to August 1820.
The events of the Rising followed years of economic recession after the end of the Napoleonic Wars and considerable revolutionary instability on the European continent. As the economic situation worsened for many workers, societies sprung up across the country which espoused radical ideas for fundamental change.
In the early nineteenth century, Scottish politics offered power to very few people. Councillors on the Royal Burghs at this time were not elected to their position, rich landowners controlled county government and there were fewer than 3,000 parliamentary voters in the whole of Scotland, hardly a democracy.
It was recognised that the key to change was electoral reform, and the events of the American Revolution of 1776 and French Revolution of 1789 helped to promote these ideas. Radical reformers began to seek the universal franchise (for men), annual parliaments, and the repeal of the Act of Union of 1707.
Between 1st and 8th April 1820, across central Scotland, some works stopped, particularly in weaving communities, and radicals attempted to fulfil a call to rise. Several disturbances occurred across the country, perhaps the worst of which were the events at Bonnymuir, Stirlingshire, where a group of about 50 radicals clashed with a patrol of around 30 soldiers, while Bonnymuir is the most famous, or should I say infamous of the events during this period, it was by no means the only “uprising”
On Monday April 3rd a strike took force across a wide area of Scotland including Stirlingshire, Dunbartonshire, Renfrewshire, Lanarkshire and Ayrshire, with an estimated total of around 60,000 stopping work.
Reports were made of men carrying out military drill in Glasgow while foundries and forges had been raided, and iron files and dyer's poles taken to make pikes. In Kilbarchan soldiers found men making pikes, in Stewarton around 60 strikers was dispersed, in Balfron around 200 men had assembled for some sort of action. Pikes, gunpowder and weapons called "wasps" (a sort of javelin) and "clegs" (a barbed shuttlecock to throw at horses) were offered for sale.
In Glasgow John Craig led around 30 men to make for the Carron Company ironworks in Falkirk, telling them that weapons would be there for the taking, but the group were scattered when intercepted by a police patrol. Craig was caught, brought before a magistrate and fined, but the magistrate paid his fine for him.
Rumours spread that England was in arms for the cause of reform and that an army was mustering at Campsie commanded by Marshal MacDonald, a Marshal of France and son of a Jacobite refugee family, to join forces with 50,000 French soldiers at Cathkin Braes under Kinloch, the fugitive "Radical laird" from Dundee.
Government troops were ready in Glasgow, including the Rifle Brigade, the 83rd Regiment of Foot, the 7th and 10th Hussars and Samuel Hunter's Glasgow Sharpshooters. In the evening 300 radicals briefly skirmished with a party "of cavalry", but no one came to harm.
The next day, Tuesday April 4th, Duncan Turner assembled around 60 men to march to Carron, while he carried out organising work elsewhere. Half the group dropped out, however the remaining twenty five, persuaded that they would pick up support along the way, set out under the leadership of Andrew Hardie. They arrived in Condorrat, which was on the way to Carron, at 5am on April 5th. Waiting for them was John Baird who had expected a small army, not this bedraggled and soaking wet group. He was persuaded to continue the March to Carron by John King, who would himself go ahead and gather supporters. King would go to find supporters at Camelon while Baird and Hardie were to leave the road and wait at Bonnymuir.
What the leaders didn’t know is that the Government had placed spies and agitators among the crowds and they were lured to the confrontation with well-armed, trained soldiers on Bonnymuir,
The authorities at Kilsyth and Stirling Castle had however been alerted and Sixteen Hussars and sixteen Yeomanry troopers had been ordered on 4 April to leave Perth and go to protect Carron. They left the road at Bonnybridge early on April 5th and made straight for the slopes of Bonnymuir. As the newspapers subsequently reported:
"On observing this force the radicals cheered and advanced to a wall over which they commenced firing at the military. Some shots were then fired by the soldiers in return, and after some time the cavalry got through an opening in the wall and attacked the party who resisted till overpowered by the troops who succeeded in taking nineteen of them prisoners, who are lodged in Stirling Castle. Four of the radicals were wounded".
The Glasgow Herald mocked the small number of radicals encountered, but worried that "the conspiracy appears to be more extensive than almost anyone imagined... radical principles are too widely spread and too deeply rooted to vanish without some explosion and the sooner it takes place the better."
The end of the Rising
On the afternoon of April 5th, before news of the Bonnymuir fighting got out, Lees sent a message asking the radicals of Strathaven to meet up with the "Radical laird" Kinloch's large force at Cathkin. The next morning a small force of 25 men followed the instructions and left at 7 a.m. to march there. Among them was the experienced elderly Radical James Wilson who is claimed to have had a banner reading "Scotland Free or a Desart"
At East Kilbride they were warned of an army ambush, and Wilson, suspecting treachery, returned to Strathaven. The others bypassed the ambush and reached Cathkin, but as there was no sign of the promised army they dispersed. Ten of them were identified and caught, and by nightfall on April 7th; they were jailed at Hamilton.
I’ll leave things there for the moment, the aftermath will be told in further posts, one in a few days, and more as the ringleaders were made examples of as they were tried for their parts in the events.
The large memorial stone to mark the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Bonnymuir was unveiled in April 2021.

MOTHICA presents: Another High
Great storytell and the music video feets perfectly
“Another High” is a poignant and relatable narrative about the cycles of addiction. She shares, “When I stop one habit, I find new vices to indulge in to keep my mind busy. Some are definitely healthier than others. And I always joke that I wish I was addicted to exercising and sunshine instead of the things that are bad for me.”

Table-Top System: Pathfinder 2e (Homebrew setting, further information will be provided upon acceptance).
Number of Players: FULL - thank you to everyone who applied!!
Time and Date: Weekly, Friday evenings - starting at 6pm to 11pm CST
Session length: 5 hours
DMing style: Mixture of both combat and role-play, leaning on heavier, darker themes and overall subject matter; incorporation of characters, backstories and party dynamics are important to the structure of our campaigns!
Starting level: Level 3
Required platforms: Discord Voice, Foundry VTT
Restrictions: No lone-wolf characters (we’re looking for characters that can mesh well with the group!), and we have a google form / application system that will be required to fill out if you wish to join!* (Evil characters are allowed, though there will be discussion and understanding of limits to craft a balanced character).
Content warning: This setting is 21+, it will contain some dark and uncomfortable material. TW themes; psychological horror, body horror, g^re, suggestive themes, and more. This is set in a dark fantasy world where your actions and how you play will have consequences to the party and story.
Player Homebrew: 3rd party options will be provided and available once you have joined!
Story: The Expanse, a world built upon blended continents and archipelagos filled with vibrant possibilities, freedom and exhilarating adventure; a world awaiting before your very fingertips. . . Beckoning, inviting you to see what all there is to offer. Though even with such pleasantries, such promises that seem to await you - Where your story truly begins, well, you all find yourselves guided down a different path. Away from gleaming hope and growth, but rather within the confines of a high-security prison deemed as Black Reach. Dreary, dark, and dripping with malice; you find yourselves in the cruel vices of custody, shackled and stowed away from the public eye ( locked away for whatever foul crimes you committed ) or perhaps. . . Your line of work, the pay offered, or perhaps out of self justice - you've found yourself sailing through the heavily patrolled waters to the isolated island where the prison stands, ready to provide aid to cease and silence those malevolent convicts. Or assist in other means. Whatever it may be, you all find yourself within its suffocating walls. For how long? It feels unknown really. . . But a place you call home, nonetheless.
Backstory information & Details: As mentioned above, you all will be starting in Black Reach; a high-security prison tasked with keeping those of heavy and severe risk in custody. Be it as a prisoner or a staff member / guard / an outside hire, whichever it may be; a detailed and enriching backstory will be needed to written ( we will assist in the process, as this will be taking place in our home-brew world ). You can reside from any portion of the world and your backstory can encompass many things, but it will need to be hammered down to finding a reason / purpose for your imprisonment or unique hire to the facility.
Keeping in contact with us, asking questions and building your character as well as your story alongside your DMs is a MUST if you join, especially before campaign begins - we want to ensure your vision and ideas can be done while still fitting in the setting as a whole.
Alongside what's mentioned above, we also partake in writing role-play between sessions where you'll be writing as your character during downtime to maintain interest, appeal and allow others to interact outside of weekly sessions - this will be a requirement if you wish to join!
Notes: Hello everyone! My name is Crimso and I'm the CO-DM for this campaign alongside my partner. we’re reaching out to find new players and potentially new friends to play a long term campaign with as well as meet, interact and hang out with often! (we're night owls, so we're up all hours of the evening haha)!
If you're interested in joining, please send a message over to my inbox and I'll send over a Google application form for you to fill out! It'll have a range of questions that'll help us get to know you!
Thank you to those who take the time to read this long post and hope you have a wonderful day!

The Apostate of the Absolute - a Minthara build
"Ready for battle."
Minthara is an Oathbreaker Paladin, smiting enemies with ease. She betrayed Lolth and was discarded by the Absolute, what comes next?
[check out my other builds!]
Gameplay Notes
This is a full class Paladin build, so the main gameplay loop is to hit hard and smite for a bunch of extra damage. As expected, the build has several good options for spellcasting outside of smites as well, with a bit of an added bonus of itemizing towards Poison damage. I chose to keep a mace as the main weapon, largely based on some character consistencies. To be honest, I am not a huge fan of playing paladins, so I’m sure there are a ton of ways for this to be much better than it is.
Stats and Leveling
Final build: Level 12 Oathbreaker Paladin
[see my comments about making/breaking Minthara’s oath below]
Minthara’s (default) stats: STR 16 / DEX 15 / CON 14 / INT 10 / WIS 12 / CHA 17
Level 1 - Oathbreaker Paladin Level 1
Level 2 - Oathbreaker Paladin Level 2
Fighting Style: Protection
Divine Smite [wow! you’re a paladin now!]
1st Level Spells [Command and Bless are top tier]
Level 3 - Oathbreaker Paladin Level 3
Level 4 - Oathbreaker Paladin Level 4
Feat: ASI+ DEX>16, CHA>18
Level 5 - Oathbreaker Paladin Level 5
Extra Attack
2nd Level Spells
Level 6 - Oathbreaker Paladin Level 6
Aura of Protection
Level 7 - Oathbreaker Paladin Level 7
Aura of Hate [aka the best Paladin aura ever]
Level 8 - Oathbreaker Paladin Level 8
Feat: Savage Attacker
Level 9 - Oathbreaker Paladin Level 9
3rd Level Spells
Level 10 - Oathbreaker Paladin Level 10
Level 11 - Oathbreaker Paladin Level 11
Level 12 - Oathbreaker Paladin Level 12
Feat: ASI+ CHA>20
Items
Armor - Blackguard's Plate (3 Murder Tribunal) [I always loot her armour in Act 1 and give it to Astarion lol]
Melee Weapon -
Xyanyde (1 Goblin Camp) [this has to be looted from Minthara at the Goblin Camp, she won’t have it in Act 2 - it’s not incredible, just cute for her to get her old weapon back]
Handmaiden’s Mace (3 House of Grief) [if you want a sword, use Blackguard’s Sword (3 Murder Tribunal) for the Dazing Smite feature, and instead take ASI+ STR>18 at Level 12]
Shield of the Undevout (3 Murder Tribunal) [I love this shield on Minthara, so once you get it, I think it’s worth dropping the dual wield]
Ranged Weapon - Gontr Mael (3 Steel Watch Foundry) [I try to spread out legendary items amongst the companions, which is why not every build has the Helm of Balduran (lmao), but I think this bow works well for Minthara]
Amulet - Broodmother’s Revenge (1 Emerald Grove)
Helmet - Diadem of Arcane Synergy (1 Creche)
Ring 1 - Poisoner's Ring (2 Moonrise Towers)
Ring 2 - Ring of Mind Shielding (1 Myconid Colony)
Gloves - Blackguard's Gauntlets (3 Murder Tribunal) or Poisoner's Gloves (2 House of Healing) [I genuinely cannot decide, so I will present both options and leave it at that]
Boots - Blackguard's Greaves (3 Murder Tribunal)
Cloak - Derivation Cloak (2 Moonrise Towers)
Lore and Flavor
I gotta be completely honest when I say that I think it is absolutely, entirely ridiculous for Minthara to be an Oath of Vengeance Paladin in this game. Minthara is not fighting the greater evil - she IS the greater evil. Given the options that we have in game, Vengeance is definitely the better option, but I really don’t think it fits her character. So… Oathbreaker it is!
Here’s where it gets weird and metagame-y and immersion breaking, which I am disappointed in myself for… Minthara has to break her oath. Apparently, betraying two gods is not enough. There are a few frustratingly immersion breaking ways to do this, including:
Respec into Oath of the Ancients or Devotion and kill a non-hostile NPC (like Z’rell in her office, for example)
Select an odd, out of character option for the He Who Was quest, forgiving Madeline
Personally, of these decidedly bad options, I’d prioritize option 2, since it doesn’t require a respec. Minthara does have some dialogue absolving herself of guilt for her actions under the Absolute’s influence, so it’s possible forgiving Madeline could make sense for her character. I just don’t know - there isn’t a nice, easy solution.
But I feel strongly that Minthara’s “canon” subclass should be Oathbreaker — strongly enough that I’ll do some janky shit to get there. Because when did Minthara swear an oath for the first time? Surely it would have been during her days serving Lolth. Then she betrayed Lolth and presumably broke her oath. If not then, then maybe she swore an oath to serve the Absolute after being tadpoled which now, under the protection of the Prism, she is turning her back on again. Or maybe, it was intended that she swore to get revenge on the Absolute for abusing her after being set free (which makes a LOT of sense to me… if Oath of Vengeance was actually about getting revenge…). Is it this exact dialogue scene? Is this when she swore her Oath of Vengeance? Regardless, here is the oath she supposedly took:
Fight the Greater Evil. Exerting your wisdom, identify the higher morality in any given instance, and fight for it.
No Mercy for the Wicked. Chasten those who dole out their villainy by wiping their blight from the world forever.
The DND 5e language is similar, but with notable differences:
Fight the Greater Evil. Faced with a choice of fighting my sworn foes or combating a lesser evil, I choose the greater evil.
No Mercy for the Wicked. Ordinary foes might win my mercy, but my sworn enemies do not.
By Any Means Necessary. My qualms can't get in the way of exterminating my foes.
Restitution. If my foes wreak ruin on the world, it is because I failed to stop them. I must help those harmed by their misdeeds.
Most of these paladins end up being Neutral (often Lawful Neutral), because the vibe is very much that they’re doing good things but getting their hands very dirty while doing it. An Oath of Vengeance Paladin with the Cult of the Absolute as their sworn enemy is aiming to kill all the cultists and destroy the Netherbrain… Minthara is very much not trying to do that. She explains her goals very clearly: “In killing Ketheric, we fractured the cult’s leadership. When we break the other Chosen and claim their Netherstones, we can take control… The power of the enslaved elder brain could reshape the world. We could reshape the world… First we take the Netherstones, then the brain, then the world.” To wrap up the conversation, she mentions her oath, clearly expressing that her motivations are tied to it: “We have a purpose and a bond. By my oath, I will fight with you while that purpose holds.”
Like with Shadowheart (who I desperately want to play as a Twilight Domain cleric after she betrays Shar), the actual best subclass for Minthara is simply not an option in the game. Minthara really ought to be an Oath of Conquest paladin. Check out the DND 5e Oath of Conquest, and tell me it doesn’t match perfectly:
Douse the Flame of Hope. It is not enough to merely defeat an enemy in battle. Your victory must be so overwhelming that your enemies’ will to fight is shattered forever. A blade can end a life. Fear can end an empire.
Rule with an Iron Fist. Once you have conquered, tolerate no dissent. Your word is law. Those who obey it shall be favored. Those who defy it shall be punished as an example to all who might follow.
Strength Above All. You shall rule until a stronger one arises. Then you must grow mightier and meet the challenge, or fall to your own ruin.
Like… come on. That is Minthara forwards and backwards. (To be clear - she’s definitely trying to get revenge as well, I just think that’s not the primary motivation.) But anyway, Oath of Conquest isn’t an option in game (at least vanilla - there are incredible subclass mods out there for those who are interested) so I don’t totally know why I’m even talking about it. Without that option, Oathbreaker is the way to go. She’s abandoned more gods than most people worship in their lifetime, and the main gameplay features of Oathbreaker are pretty fun to play with (Aura of Hate??? Like come on???)
My last comment is that, I know, I’m building Minthara late game with a mace. What the heck. But here me out - this is a cool and character-appropriate mace! The Handmaiden’s Mace appears in Baldur’s Gate 2 as well, where it’s looted off a Handmaiden of Lolth and has this description:
This mace has been crafted finely by the drow and specially treated to survive the glare of the sun. It was made for surface raids by the subterranean race... and its black metal glistens with a dark poison that seems to be generated from within and causes incredible damage upon a successful impact. The mace seems almost alive and warm to the touch, and slithers away from those whom it does not like... namely drow or those who are similar enough to not make a difference. In the hands of anyone else, the mace becomes mere dead weight.
In Baldur’s Gate 3, it’s looted off Viconia in the Cloister of Sombre Embrace, with a description that references the previous game. Basically, this is a mace originally belonging to a Lolth-sworn drow that ended up with Viconia and eventually back with a Lolth-sworn drow! I think Minthara would be comfortable wielding it (she uses maces to begin with) and is one of a subset of people that actually can (if we go based on the Baldur’s Gate 2 lore). I also like Poison damage on Minthara, because it seems fitting with her drow heritage, but I guess that’s more of a personal vibe check than anything I’ve researched. The other mace is just to generally continue her dual-wielding maces set up until switching to a shield - keeping Xyanyde and giving it back to her once you save her (after she presumably lost it) is adorable, in my opinion.
[check out my build disclaimer for info about how and why I don't min/max or completely optimize builds, prioritizing lore and vibe instead]
