The World Health Organisation’s new guideline project for transgender health has ignored the intense international debate about youth gender medicine and overlooked key reformist experts, according to the prominent American gender clinician Dr Erica Anderson.
“[The WHO] seem to be oblivious to the issues with transgender healthcare, particularly as they are playing out in the developed world,” she told GCN, adding that the agency had failed to draw on the expertise of leading clinicians who come informed by systematic reviews of the evidence base.
Dr Anderson, a “gender-affirming” clinician and past president of the United States Professional Association for Transgender Health, said none of the 21 panel members chosen by the WHO to develop the new guideline seemed qualified to address the issue of social influence as a factor in the explosion of trans and non-binary identities.
“Social media and peer influence have had a huge impact upon the rise in minority sexual and gender identities,” she said.
“Previous research done on prior cohorts of youth cannot account for the rise in such identities. We may need a new biopsychosocial epidemiology in this social media era.”
The WHO’s panel is due to make crucial decisions about development of the guideline at meetings in Geneva on February 19-21.
One of the expert clinicians overlooked by the WHO, Finland’s Professor Riittakerttu Kaltiala, an early adopter of paediatric gender transition and now a reformist critic, said she was “really worried that the WHO—which should represent responsibility for the health of all people—appears to have committed itself to a fully political initiative promoting treatments based on no evidence.”
“The WHO initiative openly seeks to promote medical gender reassignment, not to find out what is [the quality of the] evidence base, in the best interests particularly of adolescents who, in increasing numbers, problematise their gender.
“Several countries have carried out their own systematic reviews after Finland did so in 2019-2020, and all have concluded that particularly the gender-identity based, body-modifying medical treatments on minors have not been researched appropriately, lack evidence of beneficial effects and have great potential to harm.”
Professor Kaltiala told GCN that the WHO “should seek to balance this overheated and over-politicised field of medicine, not go along with political initiatives. Medicine must be based on science, not on politics.”
On December 18, the WHO announced the guideline project and the final seven members of the panel. Public comment on issues such as conflicts of interest affecting panel members ends on January 8.
A near identical announcement of the WHO project—together with biographies of the first 14 panel members—was issued on June 28, also with a short period for public comment. Both announcements came during holidays in affected parts of the world.
Trans rights activists should “get ahead of the government agenda and the media story” by early intervention in policymaking, according to a notorious 2019 report spon.sored by queer lobby IGLYO, the Thomson Reuters media foundation and law firm Dentons.
The report also warns activists to limit “press coverage and exposure” because it seems that “public campaigning has been detrimental to progress, as much of the general public is not well informed about trans issues, and therefore misinterpretation can arise.”
“It has become a throwaway line in some media coverage of transgender care in the United States that even liberal European countries are restricting care for transgender children. But this is a misleading notion. No democracy in Europe has banned, let alone criminalised, care, as many states have done in the US. What has happened is that under increasing pressure from the right, politicians in some countries have begun to limit access to certain kinds of treatment for children…”—Journalist Lydia Polgreen, opinion column, The New York Times, 1 December 2023
“Polgreen is repeating [misinformation in The Times] about what’s motivating European health systems to restrict kids’ access to gender [prescriptions]. It’s not ‘pressure from the right,’ it’s [systematic] reviews of the evidence finding it too weak to justify high risks, e.g., to brain [development], sexual function, fertility.”—Journalist Jennifer Block (author of the BMJ investigation feature on the rise of youth gender dysphoria), tweet, 31 December 2023
Who’s pushing back?
The new WHO guideline is to cover “gender-affirming care, including hormones” and “health policies that support gender-inclusive care”, among other aims such as “legal recognition of self-determined gender identity [known as self-ID].”
The timing and activist language of the WHO announcement, together with the makeup of the panel membership, have mobilised organisations and individuals worried about the international spike in medicalised gender change that disproportionately affects teenage girls who present with atypical gender dysphoria.
A fast-growing petition calls on the WHO to cancel next month’s meetings in Geneva; deal with conflicts of interest and bias affecting the guideline development panel; consider hiring an independent methodologist; and include expert members alert to the potential harm of gender-affirming interventions, as well as detransitioners.
At the time of writing, the petition had more than 5,000 signatures, including many health professionals, as well as detransitioners and LGB groups critical of Queer Theory-driven trans activism. Also signed up is the LGBT Courage Coalition, which was founded by gender clinic whistleblower Jamie Reed and trans man Aaron Kimberly.
“The current panel is highly biased in favour of ‘gender-affirming’ approaches, with an absence of critical perspectives,” says the petition, which was reportedly organised by an informal coalition of those concerned about the safety of the gender-affirming model.
The petition says: “The majority of the [WHO] panel members have expressed strong views in favour of hormonal and surgical interventions for transition, dismissed known and potential risks associated with these interventions, and denigrated psychotherapeutic approaches as [unethical] ‘conversion therapy’.”
“The panel does not include any experts in child and adolescent development or any critics of the affirmation model. Detransitioners and desisters are also excluded. Given the panel’s composition, there is strong reason to believe that the guideline will be similarly biased.
“The final composition of the panel was only announced on December 18 but, according to the WHO, this group will evaluate the evidence and formulate recommendations across a range of topics including healthcare, clinician education, health policies, and laws by February 21.
“To call this a rushed procedure would be a dramatic understatement. Compare this to the process embarked upon by the Cass Review in the UK, for example—a multi-year effort to address the health care needs of just one patient demographic (under-18s) within a single country (England).”
Video: ‘One of the people on that [WHO] panel has said we should be stopping all children’s puberty, we should give all children puberty blockers, so that they can make a decision, when they are old enough, what [gender] they want to be’—Helen Joyce of the group Sex Matters; from the 4:06 time mark

No panacea
A 2023 study by Professor Kaltiala and colleagues using a Finnish healthcare register to follow up patients after gender reassignment delivered results contradicting the familiar claim that the mental health problems of troubled young people will resolve after medical transition.
“The number of people contacting specialised [gender clinics] has increased vastly since the 1990s… and their mean age has become steadily younger,” say the authors of the paper in the journal European Psychiatry.
“Along with this, their needs for psychiatric treatment have increased. Both before and after contacting [the clinic], they present with many more common psychiatric needs than do their matched population controls, even when medical [gender reassignment] interventions are carried out.
“Among people seeking [gender reassignment], psychiatric needs have to be carefully assessed and addressed… This vastly increased pursuit of [gender reassignment] with increases in psychiatric comorbidities warrants cautious assessment of the timeliness of medical [gender reassignment] and of other [non-gender] treatment needs that may be more urgent.”
The WHO’s statement says its “new guideline will provide evidence and implementation guidance on health sector interventions aimed at increasing access and utilisation of quality and respectful health services by trans and gender diverse people [Emphasis added].”
Asked about criticism of the guideline project, a WHO spokesman said “this is a notice phase for the Guideline Development Group [or panel] process, so WHO can solicit feedback”.
“All views will be weighed on the composition of the GDG as part of the guideline development process,” he said.
He said WHO guidelines were “always based on balancing of available evidence, human rights principles, consideration of harms and benefits and inputs of end users and beneficiaries.”
He told GCN that the WHO’s trans health guideline would be “focused on adults only”. He did not reply when asked for documentary proof of this; the WHO announcements simply refer to “people”.
“It is probable that the few cases currently before the courts in the United States, Australia and elsewhere, will be the beginning of a torrent of malpractice suits against doctors and surgeons given the massive increase in children and adolescents attending gender clinics. The WHO guideline therefore must address comprehensively the issues that medical practitioners should consider, and the precautions they should take, to avoid a conclusion by a court that the doctor has engaged in malpractice.”—Queensland University Emeritus Professor of Law Patrick Parkinson, submission to the WHO guideline project, January 2024
Conflicts aplenty
In its statement of concern about the WHO project, the Society for Evidence-based Gender Medicine (SEGM) says: “Since adolescents and young adults are the largest and fastest-growing group of transgender-identified individuals, it is likely that the WHO guidelines will apply to this vulnerable group as a target population.”
SEGM says the language of the WHO announcement “does not appear to be neutral.”
“It states the goal of ‘increasing access and utilisation’ of, presumably, gender-affirmative interventions by ‘trans and gender diverse people,’ and declares the goal of legal recognition of ‘self-determined gender identity’,” SEGM says.
“This suggests that the decision to promote gender transition in the respective societal arenas (medical, policy, legal) has already been made before the group has even met to review and interpret the evidence—a step that must both precede and inform the guideline recommendations.”
SEGM says that “even a cursory review” of the guideline panel membership reveals multiple conflicts of interest, including authorship of past papers that would have to be assessed by the panel; membership or past leadership roles in gender-affirming lobby the World Professional Association for Transgender Health; intellectual bias towards gender affirmation; and a record of strong opinions on issues relevant to the guideline and its evidence base.
As an example, SEGM cites a claim by an Australian member of the panel, Teddy Cook, who is a trans man and former vice-president of the Australian Professional Association for Trans Health (AusPATH). He is also director of LGBTQ+ Community Health for ACON, the former gay rights lobby responsible for the TransHub website.
In 2021, Mr Cook wrote: “The actual side effects of gender-affirming medical care, for those who can access it, include a significantly improved quality of life, significantly better health and wellbeing outcomes, a dramatic decrease in distress, depression and anxiety and a substantial increase of gender euphoria and trans joy... We are not at risk of harm by affirming our gender.”
This is a mere opinion unsupported by the evidence, according to SEGM. (GCN sought comment from ACON and Mr Cook.)
AusPATH has been critical of the Cass review for “questioning an affirmative approach to gender-affirming care”. The AusPATH board says it does “not support ‘exploratory therapy’ which is often used as a euphemism for conversion therapy.”
“[Given the long waiting list, we] prioritise young people who are in the youth forensic system, young people in out-of-home care and young people who are from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities”—Australian psychiatrist Dr Tram Nguyen, co-head of the Royal Children’s Hospital gender-affirming clinic, media interview, The Age, 30 December 2023
Blots on the escutcheon
Gender-affirming clinician Dr Anderson said she was worried about the WHO making “a new unforced error regarding transgender healthcare” and cited the agency’s “tarnished reputation” after the Covid pandemic and recent scrutiny of its record in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip.
“Unlike with Covid and HIV/Aids, we have no virus nor well-documented aetiology [for gender dysphoria],” she told GCN.
“The tools of epidemiology and virology will not yield immediate answers on how to address growing controversies with gender-questioning youth.
“Blistering hot disputes over self-ID [gender] have spilled over into major institutions like schools, prisons, sports, and the healthcare delivery system.”
Dr Anderson said it was the WHO that had “set this in motion [by] moving trans identification, as ‘gender incongruence’, out of psychiatry over to sexual health [in the agency’s diagnostic manual the International Classification of Diseases, ICD-11].”
“While this step is a laudable improvement in depathologising trans identities, the hard work of applying such a change across society and its institutions remains to be done.
“I’m deeply sceptical that, without taking time to think, the WHO can do what needs to be done, let alone win support across the world.
“I try to help gender-questioning people every day. I’ve been concerned about the disputes and controversies for years. Now I’m worried that the WHO will make a mess of it.”
“In working with minors, the affirmative approach that I’ve always used involves a lot of mental health therapy, assessment, exploration to really individualise the treatment to the specific young person, to involve the parents in the process, to look through a developmental lens, to really understand all the other complex factors, and the medical [option] was a part of it, if and when it was appropriate for that individual child, but in my experience over the years, it wasn’t always the main focus.”—Dr Laura Edwards-Leeper, who was the founding psychologist at the Boston Children’s Hospital gender clinic, The Umbrella Hour podcast interview, December 2023
Missed opportunity
Dr Anderson noted the absence from the WHO guideline project of leading reformists of youth gender care such as the United Kingdom’s Dr Hilary Cass, Finland’s Professor Kaltiala and Sweden’s Professor Mikael Landén; each being guided by systematic reviews of the (weak and uncertain) evidence base.
To this list Dr Anderson added America’s Dr Edwards-Leeper, Dr Scott Leibowitz and herself as clinicians “at the forefront of youth gender issues” but overlooked by the WHO.
In The Washington Post in 2021, Drs Edwards-Leeper and Anderson, both clinical psychologists who use the gender-affirming approach, expressed concern about a surge in cases of rushed medicalisation of troubled minors without careful exploration of their non-gender problems.
That same year, Dr Anderson talked to journalist Abigail Shrier, author of the book Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters, about her concern that today’s teenage female patients might need a different therapeutic response than the classic male patients with onset of gender dysphoria in early childhood.

(Flashback - 10 years ago…)
Shouts and chatters of kids in the colorful classroom felt a tad bit intimidating. The lemon and oak scent permeated the classroom, filling his nostrils while the sun illuminated the room. Despite him being ironically the tallest 6-year-old in the 1st Grade, seeing so many of them playing, coloring a crayon book, being rowdy with each other as sneakers and chairs squeaked on the waxed tiled floors, made little Isaac feel smaller. The only reassurance is that he sees Matt drawing a picture and absentmindly talking with someone…another kid with light sunkissed skin…who was creating a vertically shaped masterpiece of Lego blocks vividly styled as a building to have foundation and support. The kid beside the intricate puzzles of blocks was someone that Matt became friends with this weekend.
Isaac takes a closer look at the kid and he notices how orderly and noble the kid is acting. With combed hair, tailored white long sleeve button down shirt, followed by black dress shorts, white ribbed calf socks, and black loafers. He looked like a kid who was a genius combined with the flair and fashion sense of a 1940’s child. A rich kid in basic terms.
“Isaac! Hey Isaac!” The excited tone of Matt reached his hears, standing up abruptly to see him. “Come quick, there’s someone you gotta meet!” The little grubby hands grabs Isaac’s much softer ones, dragging him forward towards the genius-like child. “Isaac, meet my new friend, Seraph. Seraph, this is Isaac, my best friend since daycare!” Matt’s cheerful declaration did not solve the newfound nervousness Isaac developed as the kid, Seraph, stares at him with gray eyes. Gray eyes that held mystery in them, that looked cold and aloof, that could literally scare a kid and have them scram immediately. Yet the innocence in them was visible and they were shining with curiosity. How did Matt become friends with this one?
The ambient noise of mindless chatter and cheers from the other kids served as the contrasting backdrop of the uncomfortable silence between Isaac and this debonair kid. A pin drop could have resonated loudly between them. Seraph’s eyes seemingly judging him, eyeing him like he was an experiment that needed to be tested. Seraph lets out a small puff of air, and then he parts his lips.
“So you’re the best friend that Matthew here excitedly chatted about and wanted me to meet? I do find your bravery and choice of friends admirable and intriguing.” The professional and intelligent tone of the boy was unbelievable. How did this kid talk like that? No, why did this kid talk like that? He is speaking as if he were a full-sized adult, it baffled and spooked Isaac. “I also wanted to meet you as well and request if I can be your friend too. Can I…Isaac?”
Despite Seraph’s confident tone, he senses a slight uncertainty at the end of his question, along with the innocence lacing the child’s voice, as if Seraph felt like he was scaring him away. He wasn’t scaring him, in fact he was captivated by the way Seraph was talking and…whatever Seraph was building, which looks like a three-dimensional construction of a building that is entirely made out of lego. Not a single impairment within the foundation.
“I am sorry, but if I am scaring you Isaac, then I understand if you do not wish for me to be your friend-”
“Wait, Seraph-”
“Um no! No y-you aren’t scaring me…it’s just that Matt here is the only friend I really talk to…” Isaac trails off in shyness, kicking his feet on the tiled floor. “I don’t really talk to the other kids in this class.”
“I see,” Seraph hums, pausing at the playful atmosphere before him. His eyes scatter to see the different kids that are of their ages, playing with toys, stuffed animals, etc. Isaac felt that Seraph was different. He saw that Seraph was different, by the way he looked, the way he spoke, the way those gray eyes observed the room like a hawk. He was very perceptive and for someone who is 6 years old, already advanced and ahead of himself, Matt and the rest of the class. “I suppose we find ourselves in similar circumstances, both not forging connections with our peers or engaging in social interactions within our class, excluding Matt of course.”
The unexpected combination of this kid’s appearance coupled with the swift and adult-like articulation of his words left Isaac puzzled. Just what kind of 1st Grader talks like that? It did make Isaac more interested in the well dressed child who now has his hands folded neatly on his desk surveying the scene before him.
“Yeah Zac, um Seraph talks like that alot and while it does sound weird, this is his way of talking to other people.” Matt butts in, his face contorting a odd expression. The privileged youngster tilts his head in confusion.
“It’s the way I present myself and communicate. Is there something wrong with my wording and how I converse?” Seraph asks, and despite how sharp and voidless his gray eyes were perceiving to be, Isaac could see hints of nervousness in those orbs. The dapper boy looked composed and concealed with a flair of affluence and suave, yet he could sense just how odd and out of place Seraph felt, just like Isaac.
“My name’s Isaac, which Matt already told you but just in case y-you forgot. Nice to meet you, and I wanna become friends with you too.” Isaac holds out his hand for a shake, a dopey smile on his lips. Seraph looks at the hand, then up to Isaac’s face, before eyeing his hand again. Then he glances back up and suddenly there is a sight to behold in front of him. To Isaac at first, he though kids like Seraph would never laugh and smile due to their aloofness and callous nature. But Seraph’s faint smile is an anomaly Isaac witnesses, but the most peculiar thing was how bright Seraph’s eyes seem to be from this. He could have also sworn he saw the child’s eyes give out an aqua blue hue within them before shifting back to gray, but he couldn’t tell. Maybe that was the sun’s reflection in the room and it did that to his eyes. Seraph shakes the former’s hand with that faint smile being replayed over and over.
“Seraph Kingfisher. Even though by now, Matthew here must have relayed you my legal entity already but I am merely letting you know who I am at your request of friendship and getting to know you. After all, you and I are alike when it involves anti-social tendencies.” Seraph explains too much for Isaac’s brain to process.
“You forgot about me being here, too.”
“My apologies, and let’s not forget Matthew. In this particular sense, you serve as the bridge to our new friendship and the expansion of a broader, diplomatic relationship to me and Isaac’s emerging friendship, contributing to your more social disposition.” Seraph replies to Matt’s jest.
“Sometimes I wonder how do you talk like that.”
“My parents raised me with class and manners. It’s proper etiquette, and a sense of code for respect and to treat others the way you want to be treated,” Isaac could only stare at how dutiful and respectful Seraph is with the intelligent and proper language he spoke with the inclusion of professional body language. Seraph was like a walking book of knowledge.
“Is something amiss, Isaac? You seem quite parched and dazed.” Seraph’s straightforward question startles the young curly haired boy.
“Oh no—it’s nothing. It’s just…I am kind of happy you don’t see me as a kid who is a little taller than most of the kids here. And…I am happy we’re friends now.” Isaac stammers out, gaining confidence in at the end of his sentence.
“So am I Isaac, and no there is nothing wrong with you being a tall 6-year-old. To me, I concur that you have been born with blessed genes that make you an able body person.” Seraph compliments, gazing at him softly. “While Matt here is artistic and sociable. An ambivert with a curious and thoughtful personality.”
That compliment made Matt shuffle his feet, a sight Isaac only sees when Matt gets shy or embarrassed. “Um thank you, Seraph.”
Isaac returns his gaze back to the affluent elementary kid, who is now switching the Lego between the hand constructed building. There was something about Seraph that made him admiring and cool to look at. Was it how he was dressed? His posture? How he was easily able to build a Lego building in real world detail? The way he was speaking to him? He didn’t know, nor could he make an accurate decision on what he felt, but all he did know was that he didn’t want to separate from Seraph. He wanted to be best friends with Seraph just like he’s best friends with Matt. Because he can see just how different Seraph was from the others.
Pursing his lips together, Isaac sits beside Seraph. “Can I…play with the Lego? Help you build this building?” His voice comes out soft and shy, despite having just become friends with him 5 minutes ago.
The boy in question glances at Isaac, his gray eyes boring into Isaac’s blue ones, with a gentle gaze that held a touch of bewilderment, contrasting how sharp and cutthroat they looked. It suddenly dawned on him that he might be treading on delicate grounds, the perplexed expression from Seraph signalling a possible misstep in their evolving rapport.
“Sorry I shouldn’t have asked if you wanted to play with me if you wanted to play-”
“No,” The interjection of Seraph cuts off his next words, “I’m sorry. It’s just that I’ve never had anyone inquire or offer to build something with me, and that is the reason.”
He nods at the former’s response slowly, before his eyebrows scrunched up in confusion. “Not even Matt? I mean I know he likes to draw but he’s friendly to ask.” He points to their friend who shrugs.
“I am not really good with Legos, or building something huge like Seraph’s building here.” It’s Matt’s response that Isaac hears. He hears the other kid shuffle in their seat. “Perhaps I can teach you, Matt.”
Seraph speaks to the aforementioned boy who glances back. “I can even help teach you as well Isaac so that you can be able to build impressive toy architects such as this example.” The other two boys look at Seraph in awe, as if they have just seen a video game on the window-sill and as if it’s calling their names to purchase it.
“Sure, I wanna learn how to build!”
“Um, I guess so…I mean will it be hard to build it because…” The shy boy trails off looking at Seraph’s design, “mines isn’t gonna come out like yours.”
“That is the exact reason why I stated I will teach you how to build a complete lego set.” Seraph sends him a wry grin, snickering while finding Isaac’s boldness entertaining. Isaac’s cheeks flush in embarrassment at his words.
“There is a saying: practice makes perfect. Hence, I will be helping you, so you can learn and master how to build a three-dimensional building, such as my design concept.” The intellectual words, followed by a formal tone of proper punctuation echoes to both Isaac and Matt. Well more Isaac. He sees just how amazing his new friend is, even wanting to teach him how to build a set of blocks just for fun.
Three 6 year-olds in their own world, learning from their new friend on how to build an actual building out of legos. To everyone else, they were just playing blocks. But to Isaac, it was a new friendship, a bond that felt warm, contrasting the icy gray eyes of his new friend. He was never good at making friends honestly speaking, his introverted personality made things difficult since he was in daycare with Matt, who became his first friend out of sheer courage.
But Seraph…he was different. Different than any kid in the 1st grade, and it wasn’t because how he dressed, it’s how quiet but observant he was, how smart yet proper he was, how intimidating yet soft he was, and he could have easily said no to him for playing. But…he didn’t, he even surprised Isaac by saying he never had anyone asked him to play with him or build with him before, and to many other kids in their classroom he looked frightening because of his eyes and stone cold face, but not to Isaac.
To 6 year-old, introverted and shy Isaac, he was mysterious and alluring. Plus, he gave Isaac something he never had before: confidence. Because he never would think he’d be in this kid’s presence without feeling shy and scared by his icy looks of condemnation and judgement, but here he is, smiling and laughing with Seraph who is sitting between him and Matt.
And…6 year-old Seraph was sporting a smile of his own. Isaac once again turns his head to the former. “Hey, can I call you Raph instead?”
Now, it was Seraph’s turn to be surprised. Isaac though he stepped too far again and taking advantage of his newfound friendship.
“Yes, you may call me Raph, a shortened version of my name.” The aforementioned kid just continues to shock and impress Isaac more and more. “Only if I can request to call you Zac.”
Isaac smiles at that nickname that Matt gives him, now being asked by Seraph. “Deal.”

SO, what did you guys think? Now you see how Isaac and Seraph know each-other. Don't worry, that will not be the last moment of their flashbacks and I have a lot of build up for these two and their close friendship that is parting on the seams. Will they get back that golden friendship? Only time will tell? Also, I wonder if anyone was able to see the hint of Seraph's eyes being reflected by the Sun within a milisecond from Isaac's pov.
Thank you so much for reading and chapter 5 will be posted this Wednesday. I will also create a Masterlist for this series to make finding the chapters easier.

Review: Japanese Special Effects Cinema:Godfathers of Tokusatsu Vol. 1
Over the past Holiday season I was gifted a book I had been wanting to read since its release in April; Japanese Special Effects Cinema:Godfathers of Tokusatsu Vol. 1 by J.L Carrozza.
As the book's title suggests, it's a comprehensive guide on the history of Tokusatsu. Vol. 1 spanning from the early 1900s to the end of the 1970s, progressing in a linear fashion with each major release while also providing context when needed. The start of the book gives a general overview of the special effects landscape in cinema from the earliest days, with works from international filmmakers laying the foundation that would eventually lead to Japan's own contributions and unique visual styling developed in the 30s.
The book truly picks up in the second chapter spanning from the late 30s to the end of WWII, when the concept of scale miniatures was truly crafted into an artform all its own and early suitmation was coming to fruition. The general presentation is to give historical context and background information on an upcoming project, followed by a particular film including its title, director, the film's release date, and the production history of the film itself. Carrozza then delves into his own general analysis and thoughts on the film or series, with a particular focus on (but not limited to) the special effects quality. Finally ending with more information about the film when applicable; contemporary reception, if it was a debut director, or if the film was seen by and noted as a big inspiration by a well known person. Anno of course comes up a lot, but he's far from the only one. These analytical segments carry themselves with both a professional earnestness in examining the works, while also being fairly casual. One may even get a sense that Carrozza’s sanity is being tested by some of the later Gamera Films, probably some of the funniest moments within the book and one I find incredibly relatable.
Unsurprisingly, a great deal of the book deals with Eiji Tsuburaya. The man simply was incredibly prolific and damn near everyone in the industry was either directly taught or inspired by him until his death- which even then his many proteges would carry on the tradition and inspiring others in turn, which is one of the most intriguing parts of the book, particularly the aftershocks Tsuburaya’s death had across the entire industry.
However, I do want to point out that the book doesn't pay much service to Tsuburaya's personal life outside of providing context or important details, nor should it. After all, Master of Monsters is already a deep dive into the man's life overall. So while details such as his change in name and conversion to Catholicism are mentioned, they're not the focus point; the movies are. And of course, as major of a player as Tsuburaya was, he is not the only one given the spotlight in regards to their contributions. The Yagi brothers are regularly mentioned for all their monster creations, Noriaki Yuasa of Daiei is regularly talked about, even Tomio Sagisu and his weird Cat obsession. And the list continues to grow and change as new talent emerges, becoming famous in their own right.
By and large Screen Writers, Producers, DPs, pyrotechnics, prop and set builders, and various other units are brought up and given background information whenever possible and always a name to those behind the magic. The information is detailed, yet concise. The sheer dense nature of the book comes from how much is covered and the broad scope of covering every notable Tokusatsu production until the end of ‘79. (I generally can read a novel in about 4 days, this took two weeks)
Quite frankly, it's refreshing to see so much condensed into one space for so many seldom talked about figures in the industry, where they got their start, ended up, etc.
Equally refreshing is a wider focus on not just DaiKaiju films or just one studio, but a plethora of Toku from various genres, production teams, and how the industry shifted over time– to say nothing of the influence major Hollywood films would have on the medium. War films, historical films, disaster movies, even Yokai films, occult films, space films, psychedelic horror, all are covered. And because the book goes in chronological order, the topic is always changing. 1965 kicks off with None But the Brave, then it’s The Retreat from Kiska, followed by Frankenstein Conquers the World, Zero Ace, and then over to Spy Catcher 13 on Television. It's not just about Godzilla, Gamera, and Ultraman. It's also Watari The Ninja Boy, Goke, Wind Velocity 75 Meters, The Bullet Train, Zero Fighter, ESPY, and Japan Sinks-- the film that inspired Shinji Higuchi.
We’re not just focusing on monsters and Super Heroes, even if that will always be the bread and butter of the medium, nor is it even just Japanese films. As long as a Japanese crew was involved in some capacity, however limited (i.e. Inframan) it’s covered.
This is by far the most appealing part of the book for me personally. Not only is its information a goldmine, but it can perhaps serve as an even broader introduction to more than just your typical idea of what Tokusatsu is.
The comprehensiveness and thoroughness of the information contained makes this both a captivating history lesson, and valuable resource to rely upon to gain a better understanding of Japan’s film history– at least in regard to the medium in question… With one exception that I have to get into, and boy do I really hate that I have to do this because 99% of this book is really great.
As mentioned, a large amount of the book revolves around Tsuburaya and those around him, those who could carry on his teachings, and those who would go even further with what practical effects can do. I'm very pleased to say the book doesn't just stop being engaging with Tsuburaya's passing, it's very much interested in where and how the industry gets on without such a prominent figure. Carrozza clearly has a deep love of miniatures in particular, you can tell by the enthusiastic writing this is his favorite aspect of Tokusatsu as it is with most people, and it plays a part in how much information is present. Because of that Tsupro, Toho, and even Daiei have a lot more readily accessible information to their history, just in general. It's why something like Spectreman can have four and half pages of production information, but you're lucky to get one or two on Ninja Arashi. What is there to say about something like that?
That's not to imply any of this information is easy to get, by no means. It's very hard work, particularly to sift through and condense everything- not to mention filtering possible contradicting stories or dated sources. But some things are easier than others. I will say it's impressive the amount of info that's presented for other studios, particularly P Productions and even Toei. They're given adequate attention, even in the early days. The back of the book features a full bibliography of all the sources and citations for this information, and a vast number of books pertaining to Tsupro, Toho, Daiei, even a few on P productions. Given their long and vast histories, it's not too surprising that there would be dozens upon dozens of books on the subjects. However, Toei and more specifically Kamen Rider are the odd ones out with the least amount of books, which also isn't surprising.
But this does lead to what is quite possibly the most egregious part, which is Kamen Rider '71's segment.
Now, just to be clear, I don't wanna dunk on Carrozza. What he's done is truly magical and I am deeply appreciative of all that's here. But this part is flawed, and it's putting wrong information out there.
There are some good aspects. The book mentions early production concepts that are often glossed over, like how Tiger Mask was partially the inspiration, and even early concept names like Maskman K, Kamen Tenshi: Masked Angel, and Cross Fire. It covers Masaru Igami, Shinichi Ichikawa, and Shozo Uehara being brought on as writers. Although there's no mention that both Ichikawa and Uehara left to work on Return of Ultraman due to conflicts with Producer Toru Hirayama, while Masayuki Shimada and Hidetoshi Kitamura would take their place.
What is noted is that many of the concepts under Cross Fire were maintained, which is true. The Scars that show up when angered, Ruriko Midorikawa as the daughter of a dead professor, the Spiderman. All of that was under Crossfire-- Shocker as a villain organization goes back even further. A surprising amount of the concepts were attributed to Toei's creative department, even the scars which ended up only appearing in the manga.
Now the book doesn't get into all those fine details, it starts and stops at "Many concepts from Cross Fire were maintained" which is fine. Gotta keep things condensed and a lot of that information is superfluous for this type of book. We don't need to get into Crossmask: Kamen Rider or Hopper King. That's too much of a deep dive.
Where things take a turn is in regards to the design aspects. A popular and incorrect over-simplification of the story involves Toei wanting a Skullman show or something like it, but then it was decided that would be too violent so Ishinomori came up with the Grasshopper look. Another is the inverse where Ishinomori wanted a Skullman show and Toei said no to the premise/design.
Both of these are wrong with an inkling of truth in them. But the book presents a tale I've never heard. The way it's told here is that Toei wanted a Skull motif to replace Crossfire, but Ishinomori felt it was redundant since he just worked on the Flying Phantom Ship in '69. He created over 50 designs and his son Joe picked the Grasshopper, which played well into some environmental themes Ishinomori was pushing for. There is ZERO mention of Skullman made just a year earlier, which is such a bizarre missing piece and the only version of Kamen Rider’s creation that I know of with no Skullman.
As with the others, there are true parts in there.
The actual tale is that Ishinomori wanted something downright grotesque and felt that Crossfire's design was limiting. Ishinomori proposed the Skull motif to Toru Hirayama, who in turn relayed it to fellow Producer Yoshinori Watanabe, who despised the proposal. Watanabe felt it was too derivative of Skullman and wanted something original, while the Broadcast Station, MBS, felt it was too scary for their family friendly time slot. Ishinomori made over 50 designs, liked a Grasshopper one best because it was still creepy and helped play into an environmental theme of nature fighting back that Ishinimori was fond of.
There was still doubt around the design, but Ishinomori's son, Joe, went through the designs and picked the Grasshopper, so it was sent for approval.
Now, this book mentions that Hirayama felt the insect design was weak as bugs are small, but eventually came around. Although it's claimed by Hirayama in his own book that it was MBS' Tetsu Shouno, who felt the insect design was weak, while Hirayama defended it. Hirayama did however have some reservations about the design possibly scaring children. When the helmet was finished, it was shown to a little girl, nearly driving her to tears, much to Hirayama’s horror. But it was too late to change. The rest of the book’s segment is largely what seems speculative, like The Hulk being an inspiration because...transformation? One part also mentions that they originally wanted the character to Grow a la Ultraman, but Ishinomori talked them out of it- I've not been able to find anything to support that. The closest I know of off hand was many years later in Kamen Rider J, which Ishinomori was supposedly against with exception to if it was treated like a one off miracle at the end of the movie. That doesn't mean it’s not true to ‘71, mind you, but I can't say that's an unheard of gem of information, given the flaws elsewhere.
What's weird is everything following is fine. The analytical section doesn't really get into the human themes of the series, but it rightly points out the grittier overall tone and appearance of the series, noting the first 13 episodes are among the best of the era. Specific designers at Equis are also mentioned, including Akira Takahashi, Tsutomu Yagi, and Masamitsu Sakuma. Information like that isn't often discussed, it's just a shame that so much the preceding info is garbled if not outright wrong.
But it's also not all too surprising as information on Kamen Rider has always been extremely muddled, and there aren't a ton of solid resources in comparison to other productions, despite how notable the franchise is. I think the best example of that might be that goddamn Zone Fighter has more detailed information on the production side than Kamen Rider does (Though it doesn't hurt that Zone Fighter is more effects focused than Rider to begin with).
In stark contrast with the rest of the book's well researched material, Rider feels like the information is half remembered and lacking the details of other productions. Even when we get into V3 which has much more readily available information thanks to airings in Hawaii and a DVD release, it has a fairly sparse section on the production end.
And there may be some truth to the half remembered details part. One of the books listed as a source is Fujioka's The Truth about Kamen Rider and Takeshi Hongo, published in 1999. And I would not be shocked if some of the information contributed to not only the odd information contained here, but the general murky history overall. There's a solid chance Fujioka's recollection may have forgotten some details, or gotten some wrong. I would've hoped that another book cited; Toei x Ishinomori would've corrected that, but there's no telling how detailed that book gets.
Regardless, other works like 2007's The Men Who Made Kamen Rider tell the story above, in addition to Toru Hirayama's 2012 bio: Crybaby Producer's Last Words - 50 Years of a TV Hero's Steps. Neither of course are in the bibliography. Even if we were to very generously assume that Hirayama's book was incorrect or embellished, I think it would be worth mentioning and getting into the varying scenarios instead of relying on a limited source when the information is out there, just not utilized.
It's a shame because I do truly feel this is an invaluable book with solid information, especially for lesser known productions, one that also gives a look at how trends would shape the industry. Hell, I finally have a name and photo for the damn machine Toei used for all its composite shots; the Totsu ECG system.
I still highly recommend the book to anyone interested in Japanese special effects, a ton of love was poured into this. But I also can't overlook that a major franchise has a mess of garbage information that only further clouds the murky waters. I hope this is corrected in a 2nd edition or at least updated info is mentioned in Vol 2 due in March. As is, do not cite or rely on this as a source for Rider history, it's the one spot I can definitively say is bad.

How to Navigate Cultural Differences for Business Success in India
Expanding a business into India is a promising opportunity. The country’s diverse and dynamic market has attracted global companies eager to tap into its vast potential. However, for any company aiming for successful business expansion in India, understanding and navigating the nation’s cultural nuances is vital. The multifaceted nature of Indian culture – with its rich traditions, regional variations, and distinct business etiquette – can shape the outcome of business ventures in significant ways. Here’s how Fox&Angel recommends navigating cultural differences to foster successful business expansion in India.
1. Embrace India’s Diversity
India is a mosaic of languages, religions, and customs. Each region has its unique cultural identity, from the way people communicate to their preferences for products and services. For effective business expansion in India, it’s crucial to recognize that a one-size-fits-all approach won’t work. Tailoring strategies to respect local cultures, values, and tastes will help build rapport with customers and partners across the nation. By working with experienced local partners like Fox&Angel, you can tap into invaluable insights about regional preferences, ensuring that your brand resonates with India’s diverse population.
2. Understand the Hierarchical Structure in Business
Many Indian companies value hierarchy and seniority in business interactions. Decisions may be deferred to senior management, and it’s common to address the highest-ranking individual present. Respecting this structure shows that you understand the cultural protocols, establishing trust and professionalism. When entering the Indian market, respecting hierarchy is essential for building strong, collaborative partnerships. Fox&Angel can provide guidance on how best to navigate this structure, helping foreign businesses establish respectful and effective relationships with Indian stakeholders.
3. Adapt Communication Styles
Communication in India tends to be indirect, especially when conveying bad news or criticism. Indians often use subtle cues and non-verbal gestures, which can be misinterpreted by those unfamiliar with these nuances. By understanding this communication style, businesses can avoid misunderstandings and foster more positive interactions. Training teams to be mindful of these differences, especially in how they approach feedback, is a proactive way to ensure smoother communication with Indian partners and employees.
4. Show Respect for Local Holidays and Festivals
India is known for its festivals and holidays, which vary widely by region and religion. Diwali, Holi, Eid, and Christmas are celebrated with great enthusiasm, and businesses often see high consumer engagement during these times. Recognizing these events can help build rapport with your local audience and show cultural awareness. Adapting your marketing campaigns to align with these celebrations can also boost brand visibility. Fox&Angel advises businesses to develop localized campaigns that celebrate these occasions, creating meaningful connections with consumers.
5. Acknowledge Relationship-Based Business Practices
In India, building relationships is often a precursor to doing business. Networking and personal connections play a vital role in gaining trust and commitment. Taking the time to establish meaningful relationships will enhance trust and facilitate smoother business operations. In addition, it’s customary to engage in small talk and get to know your counterparts personally before jumping into business discussions. By understanding this relational approach, companies can strengthen ties with clients, partners, and vendors, establishing a foundation of trust. Fox&Angel can help streamline this process by introducing businesses to the right networks and cultural practices that build lasting partnerships.
6. Respect the Concept of Time Flexibility
The approach to time in India is often more flexible compared to Western countries. Business meetings might start late, and timelines may be more fluid. Understanding and adapting to this cultural difference can reduce frustration and set realistic expectations. While punctuality is still appreciated, adapting to this approach can help foreign businesses avoid potential friction. Partnering with a local consulting firm like Fox&Angel can aid in setting achievable goals and timelines, ensuring that your project stays on track while respecting the cultural concept of time.
Conclusion
Expanding a business into India requires more than just market analysis; it demands a deep appreciation for the cultural landscape. By understanding and embracing the nuances of Indian culture, businesses can build stronger connections with consumers and partners alike. At Fox&Angel, we specialize in helping businesses navigate these cultural intricacies, setting you on the path to successful business expansion in India.
Ready to make your mark in the Indian market? Contact us at Fox&Angel to discuss your expansion strategy and take the first steps toward building a culturally attuned, successful business in India.

The Benefits of Hiring a Virtual Assistant for Your Etsy or Shopify Store
Running a successful e-commerce business on platforms like Etsy or Shopify requires time, effort, and a broad range of skills. From managing product listings to ensuring smooth customer service, the workload can be overwhelming, especially for small business owners. That’s where hiring a virtual assistant (VA) comes in. A skilled VA can provide significant benefits, allowing you to focus on growing your business without getting bogged down by daily tasks.
Here’s a look at the key benefits of hiring a virtual assistant for your Etsy or Shopify store:
1. Increased Productivity and Efficiency
Virtual assistants are experts in managing administrative and operational tasks. Whether it’s updating product listings, handling inventory, or processing orders, they can take care of the day-to-day operations of your store. This frees up your time to focus on higher-level strategies like marketing and product development, allowing your business to grow faster.
2. Cost-Effective Solution
Hiring a full-time employee to handle tasks like customer support or product uploads can be expensive. VAs offer a more affordable option, as they work on a contract or freelance basis. You only pay for the hours they work, making it a cost-effective way to scale your business without the overhead of hiring in-house staff.
3. Expertise in E-Commerce Platforms
Many virtual assistants specialize in specific platforms like Etsy or Shopify. They are familiar with the ins and outs of the platform, including SEO optimization, product description writing, and effective marketing strategies. Their expertise ensures that your store is optimized for performance, driving traffic and increasing sales.
4. Improved Customer Service
Customer satisfaction is crucial to the success of your e-commerce business. A virtual assistant can manage customer inquiries, handle disputes, and process returns promptly and professionally. Having a VA dedicated to maintaining positive customer relationships helps you build trust and encourages repeat business.
5. SEO and Marketing Assistance
A well-rounded VA can help improve your store’s visibility with SEO-friendly product descriptions, blog posts, and optimized tags. In addition, they can assist with email marketing campaigns, social media management, and even pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, helping you reach a broader audience and increase sales.
6. Flexibility and Scalability
One of the biggest advantages of hiring a virtual assistant is the flexibility they offer. You can scale their workload up or down depending on your business needs. If you’re launching a new product line or running a holiday promotion, a VA can handle the additional workload. During slower periods, you can reduce their hours, ensuring you only pay for the services you need.
7. Faster Task Completion
VAs are trained to work efficiently. Their focus on specific tasks allows them to complete them quickly without sacrificing quality. Whether it’s bulk uploading products to your Shopify store or updating listings on Etsy, a virtual assistant can get things done in a fraction of the time it might take you to do it yourself.
8. Enhanced Work-Life Balance
As an e-commerce entrepreneur, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by the constant demands of running your business. Hiring a virtual assistant gives you the ability to delegate routine tasks, giving you more time to focus on the bigger picture — or simply enjoy more free time. Achieving a healthier work-life balance leads to better mental well-being and a stronger business foundation.
Inconclusion, A virtual assistant can be a game-changer for your Etsy or Shopify store, helping to streamline operations, improve customer service, and ultimately grow your business. By outsourcing repetitive tasks and leveraging their expertise, you’ll not only save time and money but also create a more efficient and scalable e-commerce business.
If you’re ready to take your online store to the next level, consider hiring a skilled virtual assistant today!

Empowering the Next Generation: Ontario's Jewish Educational Approach
The Jewish education program in Ontario plays a vital role in preserving cultural heritage and imparting values that help shape the next generation of Jewish youth. These programs go beyond the academic curriculum, focusing on both religious education and personal development. By combining traditional Jewish teachings with modern educational methods, these programs equip students with the skills, knowledge, and values to succeed in today's world. Today we will explore how Jewish education programs in Ontario impact the lives of students and contribute to shaping future leaders within the Jewish community.
The Structure of Jewish Education in Ontario
Jewish education programs in Ontario typically consist of day schools, supplementary schools, and high school programs, offering a range of options for students and families. Day schools provide a full-time curriculum where students study both secular and Jewish subjects, while supplementary schools offer religious education outside of regular school hours.
In these institutions, students receive instruction in core subjects like math, science, and language arts alongside Jewish studies, including Hebrew language, Torah, Jewish history, and religious customs. This dual curriculum not only fosters academic success but also reinforces a deep connection to Jewish identity, culture, and traditions.
Developing a Strong Jewish Identity
One of the main goals of the Jewish education revolution is to cultivate a strong sense of Jewish identity among students. Through the study of Jewish texts, traditions, and history, students learn the significance of their cultural heritage and the importance of carrying these values into the future.
By participating in Jewish rituals, celebrating holidays, and engaging in community service, students gain a sense of belonging to the larger Jewish community. These experiences instill a lifelong connection to their faith and help them navigate modern life with a strong moral and ethical foundation. The programs also encourage students to explore their spirituality, allowing them to form a meaningful relationship with their faith.
Fostering Leadership and Social Responsibility
Jewish education in Ontario places a strong emphasis on leadership, social justice, and community involvement. Many programs integrate values such as tikkun olam and chesed, encouraging students to contribute positively to society. Students are taught the importance of giving back, helping those in need, and being active members of their local and global communities.
Leadership development is another key aspect of these programs. Through student-led initiatives, public speaking opportunities, and participation in synagogue life, students gain the skills and confidence to become leaders in the Jewish community and beyond. These experiences help prepare them for future roles as advocates, professionals, and community organizers.
The Jewish education program in Ontario at ADRABA provides students with a well-rounded education that balances academic achievement with religious and moral development. By fostering a deep connection to Jewish heritage, promoting leadership, and instilling values of social responsibility, these programs shape the next generation of Jewish leaders. Islamic Secondary Schools: A Comprehensive Guide to Faith-Based Education
Islamic secondary schools have become increasingly popular as parents seek to provide their children with both a strong academic foundation and an Islamic environment. These schools aim to balance academic excellence with spiritual and moral development, offering students a holistic education rooted in Islamic values. In this blog, we will explore the structure, goals, and benefits of Islamic secondary schools, shedding light on how they contribute to the growth of young Muslim minds.
1. What is an Islamic Secondary School?
An Islamic secondary school is an educational institution that provides a curriculum that aligns with national education standards while integrating Islamic teachings and values. These schools cater to students typically aged 11-18, covering Key Stages 3 and 4 in the UK, or the equivalent in other countries. Islamic schools aim to foster both academic success and the spiritual development of students, ensuring they emerge as well-rounded individuals.
At Islamic secondary schools, students not only study subjects like mathematics, science, and English but also Islamic Studies, Qur'an memorization (Hifz), and Arabic. The school environment emphasizes modesty, respect, and ethical behavior, encouraging students to live in accordance with Islamic teachings.
2. The Role of Islamic Values in Education
Islamic secondary schools are distinguished by their focus on Islamic values. The principles of Islam permeate every aspect of the school's environment, from the way teachers interact with students to the curriculum and extracurricular activities. The core values of compassion, honesty, justice, and accountability are woven into daily school life.
For many parents, this faith-centered approach is key to their decision to enroll their children in Islamic secondary schools. These values are reinforced through Islamic Studies lessons, the observance of prayers, and school activities that reflect Islamic morals, such as charity work, modest dress, and respectful conduct.
3. Curriculum: Balancing Secular and Islamic Studies
A key feature of Islamic secondary schools is the integration of secular subjects with Islamic teachings. The schools typically follow the national curriculum, ensuring students are well-prepared for higher education and professional careers. At the same time, students engage in Islamic Studies, Qur'an recitation, and Arabic language learning. The balance between these two streams allows students to excel academically while staying grounded in their religious identity.
The Islamic curriculum often includes lessons in Aqeedah (Islamic creed), Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), and Seerah (the life of the Prophet Muhammad). Some schools offer the opportunity to pursue a Hifz program, enabling students to memorize the Qur'an alongside their academic studies.
4. Importance of a Faith-Based Environment
One of the main benefits of Islamic secondary schools is the nurturing faith-based environment they provide. The school community is designed to foster a sense of belonging, encouraging students to develop strong Islamic identities. The daily routines of prayer, recitation, and reflection help reinforce students’ connection to their faith.
In Islamic secondary schools, students are also less likely to experience conflicts between their religious beliefs and school culture. For instance, modest dress codes, time for prayers, and the observance of Islamic holidays like Eid are built into the school structure. This allows students to practice their faith without feeling marginalized or isolated.
5. Character Development and Islamic Etiquette
In addition to academic education, Islamic secondary schools place a strong emphasis on character development. The goal is to produce individuals who not only excel academically but also embody the moral and ethical teachings of Islam. Concepts such as respect for parents and elders, honesty in dealings, humility, and responsibility towards others are emphasized throughout a student’s education.
Teachers and staff in Islamic schools serve as role models for students, demonstrating Islamic etiquette (Adab) in their interactions. Lessons on personal conduct, such as the importance of integrity, fairness, and kindness, are integrated into everyday learning. By reinforcing these values, Islamic schools aim to nurture future leaders who can positively contribute to society while remaining grounded in their faith.
6. Extracurricular Activities and Islamic School Life
Islamic secondary schools often offer a wide range of extracurricular activities that are in line with Islamic principles. Sports, arts, debate clubs, and community service projects provide students with opportunities to develop their talents and engage in team-building activities. Involvement in extracurricular activities is encouraged as a way of promoting well-rounded development, allowing students to explore their interests while staying rooted in their faith.
Community service, in particular, plays a significant role in school life. Students may participate in charity events, fundraising for local and international causes, or volunteer work. These activities not only build character but also teach the importance of social responsibility, which is a central aspect of Islamic teachings.
7. Parental Involvement and Support
Parental involvement is key to the success of Islamic secondary schools. Parents are seen as partners in the educational journey, working closely with teachers and administrators to ensure the best outcomes for their children. Schools often encourage regular communication between parents and staff, offering workshops, parent-teacher meetings, and feedback sessions to keep parents involved in their child’s development.
Islamic schools also tend to have active parent-teacher associations (PTAs) that organize events, fundraisers, and activities for the school community. This close-knit collaboration helps create a supportive environment where students thrive academically, socially, and spiritually.
8. Challenges Faced by Islamic Secondary Schools
While Islamic secondary schools offer many benefits, they are not without challenges. One of the primary challenges is balancing the expectations of both secular and Islamic education. Schools must ensure that they meet the academic standards set by national education authorities while providing a comprehensive Islamic education. Additionally, Islamic schools often face financial constraints, as many are privately funded and rely on tuition fees, donations, and community support.
Another challenge is combating misconceptions and stereotypes about Islamic schools. It is important for these institutions to engage with the wider community to dispel myths and foster understanding. This often involves participating in interfaith activities, open houses, and community outreach programs to build bridges between Muslim and non-Muslim communities.
Conclusion: Islamic Secondary Schools – Shaping Future Leaders
Islamic secondary schools play a crucial role in shaping the future of young Muslims. By providing a balanced education that integrates academic excellence with Islamic values, these schools offer students a unique environment in which they can grow intellectually, morally, and spiritually. The faith-based approach not only nurtures a strong Islamic identity but also prepares students to be responsible, compassionate, and successful members of society.
As Islamic secondary schools continue to expand and evolve, they will remain an essential part of the educational landscape, offering families a valuable option for holistic education. For parents seeking a school that aligns with their religious beliefs while providing high-quality education, Islamic secondary schools present a meaningful and rewarding choice.

Understanding these trends is crucial for anyone aiming to excel in the field, and having reliable business economics homework help can make this journey smoother. This guide aims to demystify market trends and their implications, providing a foundational understanding essential for budding economists.
What are Market Trends?
Market trends refer to the general direction in which a market is moving. These trends can be influenced by various factors, including economic indicators, consumer behavior, technological advancements, and geopolitical events. Types of Market Trends
Secular Trends: These are long-term trends that span over decades. They reflect broad changes in the economy, society, or technology. For instance, the rise of digital technology and the internet is a secular trend that has transformed industries globally.
Cyclical Trends: These trends correspond to the natural economic cycles of expansion and contraction. They typically last several years and are influenced by factors like interest rates, consumer confidence, and government policies. Understanding cyclical trends is crucial for timing investments and business decisions.
Seasonal Trends: As the name suggests, these trends occur at regular intervals within a year, often due to seasonal changes. For example, retail businesses often see increased sales during the holiday season. Recognizing these patterns helps businesses plan inventory and marketing strategies.
Why Understanding Market Trends Matters
For students of business economics, grasping market trends is more than an academic exercise. It's about developing a keen sense of how markets operate and respond to various stimuli. This knowledge is indispensable for several reasons:
Strategic Planning: Businesses rely on market trend analysis for strategic planning. By understanding trends, companies can forecast demand, plan production, and manage resources more effectively.
Investment Decisions: Investors use market trends to make decisions about buying or selling assets. Knowing when a market is likely to rise or fall can significantly impact investment returns.
Competitive Advantage: Companies that can anticipate market changes can gain a competitive edge. They can innovate, adapt to new technologies, and meet customer needs more effectively than their competitors.
Tools for Analyzing Market Trends

Case Study: The Impact of COVID-19 on Market Trends
The COVID-19 pandemic offers a real-world example of how external events can disrupt market trends. The pandemic led to significant shifts in consumer behavior, supply chain disruptions, and changes in government policies globally.
Consumer Behavior: With lockdowns and social distancing measures, there was a surge in demand for digital services, e-commerce, and home entertainment. Companies like Amazon and Netflix saw substantial growth during this period.
Supply Chain Disruptions: Manufacturing and logistics were heavily impacted, leading to shortages and delays. This prompted businesses to reconsider their supply chain strategies, emphasizing the need for more resilient and flexible systems.
Government Policies: In response to the economic downturn, governments introduced stimulus packages, lowered interest rates, and implemented various fiscal policies to support businesses and individuals. These measures had a profound effect on financial markets and economic recovery trajectories.
