a/n - I got a request from my hoe partner @navybrat817 for Andy Barber, one bed. I got a bit carried away after a chat with my girls and this was born. It’s pure porn, not gonna lie. Huge huge thanks to @river-soul for beta reading this for me, all mistakes are still my own.

“Ok, so all you have to do is talk about what happened just like we discussed and you’ll be ok, There's nothing to be worried about,” Andy says to you, smiling over from the driver’s seat and tapping your thigh. He always managed to make you feel at ease, the entire trial had caused so many sleepless nights, but it was nearly all over and you’d be able to breathe once again.
He had picked you up and drove you the two hours to the courthouse, insisting on booking the nice hotel nearby since you were expected to be there for the rest of the week. Walking up to the check in desk together the receptionist welcomes you both, passing over the paperwork and smiling. You’re checking your phone and not paying attention when Andy nudges you. “There's been a mixup and they only have one room left, they’ll put an extra bed in for me though so we don’t have to share. Is that ok with you?”
You look at Andy confused before agreeing, knowing you didn’t have much of a choice anyway. You sign the form and walk to the elevator together. Stepping into the room you’re taken aback at how small it is and wonder how you could even fit another bed in there. Andy must have read your thoughts, he placed his hands on your shoulders and leaned down. “It’ll be ok, I’ll sleep in the bath if it makes you more comfortable?=.” You smile and shake your head, insisting it’ll be ok and unpacking your toiletries from your bag.
Later that evening you go for dinner with Andy and his friend Chris. Chris had been an undercover cop on the case and was due to give evidence this week alongside you. You had met him very briefly before and felt at ease knowing he was going to be taking the stand too, hoping it would take some of the pressure off you. You sat at the dinner table together eating and drinking for hours, only getting up when the waiter asked you all to leave.
Chris called for a cab but the bad weather had stopped all the cars in the area from doing any further pickups. The hotel was full for the evening so Chris said he would sleep in his car for the night and went to head out. You stopped him and said he could stay in your room for the night, offering him and Andy the double bed while you took the foldaway bed that was now pushed into the small space.
Wishing you had brought something a little bit more modest to wear for bed you dressed in the bathroom, making your way back out and missing the two sets of eyes following your every move. You placed your phone on charge and lay down, checking your social media accounts and texting your best friend back home. Andy was in the bathroom when Chris finally spoke to you alone. “How are you feeling about tomorrow?” You shrugged your shoulders and smiled, the same smile you gave Andy when he asked, the one you used to mask how nervous you were.
Patting the bed next to him and smiling at you, he asks you to sit down and talk. Wrapping an arm around your shoulder, you tell him how nervous you are that you’re going to mess things up somehow. He pulls you in close and tilts your chin up with two fingers, smiling down at you and reassuring you that neither he nor Andy will let them upset you. He watches as you visibly relax, taking a deep breath and finally smiling a smile that reaches your eyes.
He leans in and presses a soft kiss to your lips, gently nipping and licking over your lips before pulling back and smiling down at you. “I'm sorry, I couldn’t help myself. Do you want me to stop?” He whispers, watching your face and waiting for you to react. He didn’t expect you to pull him down and smash your lips against his, pushing your tongue in his mouth like you’d been wanting to do it for so long. You were so preoccupied with each other that neither of you felt the bed dip behind you.
“Looks like I’m missing all the fun out here,” Andy says, smiling at you and raising his brow questioningly.e laughs at your startled look before running his thumb over your lips and pushing it into your mouth. You nip at the pad, licking over it and sucking it into your mouth, your hand gripping his wrist before he can pull away. Chris leans in and whispers into your ear, “let us take care of you Princess, help you relax.” You moan softly and pull Andy’s thumb away with a pop before kissing Chris again and letting him guide you back against the mattress.
You lay back and relax as you feel two pairs of lips on you, one pair kissing up your leg while the other kisses over your collarbone and down your chest. You softly moan and run your fingers through Andy’s hair as he looks up at you. His fingers hook under the waistband of your underwear and waiting for you to nod before pulling them down. Not giving you a moment longer to watch Andy, Chris pulls your face to look at him and squeezes gently until you open your mouth, spitting into it and smirking before pushing two fingers in and pumping them in and out. “Got to get them nice and wet for me, Princess.”
Andy laps at your juices, moaning at your taste and watching in fascination as Chris pushes his fingers down your throat. He wraps his lips around your clit, sucking and flicking his tongue over the sensitive bud and smirking to himself when you moan out, lifting your hips off the bed and gripping the sheets below you. He slowly pushes two fingers inside you, curling them up to search for the spongy patch and smiling when you moan out loud as he rubs over it.
Chris leans down and kisses you, smearing his cock with your spit before he pulls back and taps your bottom lip with his cock, smiling at you as you close your eyes moaning but reaching out and licking the precum off his tip. It takes all his willpower not to thrust forward and fill your mouth, he waits and watches as you fall apart on Andy’s tongue, your whimpering and begging making him feel even more desperate for you.
Coming down from your high you look up at Chris and see him staring at you, squeezing the tip of his cock and silently begging you for some attention. You smile up at him and are about to take him in your mouth when you feel the sting of a slap on your cunt. You look down at Andy, your juices coating his beard.e has a devious smirk on his face and you know right then and there it’s going to be a fun night.
Andy looks up at you both and knows what he wants to do, slowly easing two fingers into you and angling them just right. He feels a swell of pride as you moan softly, your hips lifting off the bed and your back arching. Chris rubs the tip of his cock over your lips, the salty precum coating them, and moans when you open up, running your tongue over the tip and taking him in your mouth. Seeing your distraction as an opportunity Andy adds a third finger, easily sliding in and out of your wet heat.
You moan around Chris’ cock as he pushes further in. He grabs the back of your head and holds you still so he can move in and out at his own pace. Andy praises you for taking his fingers so well before adding a fourth digit, very slowly pushing in and watching your face for discomfort. You squeeze your eyes shut and grip at the sheets beneath you as he pushes in deeper. He can feel you squeezing around him, close to cumming again but pulls his fingers away. Your eyes shoot open to look down at him, begging him for more but he shakes his head. “Chris lay on the bed, I want to see her ride you.” Andy stands up, sitting on the edge of the bed and watching as you straddle Chris’ lap sinking down slowly, both of you moaning as he rubs against your g spot.
You circle your hips, Chris gripping them to help you. You feel Andy’s hand in between your shoulders, pushing you forward before laying over you and whispering in your ear, “do you trust me?” You nod and turn your head to kiss him lightly, seeing a proud smirk on his face before he’s back behind you. Chris starts to move you slowly up and down, your clit rubbing against his abdomen and sending jolts of electricity coursing through you. You whip your head around quickly to look at Andy as he slowly pushes inside you. An intense burn as he nestles inside you, leaning forward and kissing your neck. You’ve never felt anything like this before, he can’t possibly think he can fit inside you. Sensing your panic he nips at your ear, growling low “we can make it fit, just relax for us honey.”
The burning sensation starts to dull as Chris firmly moves you, your orgasm building up intensely and your moans getting louder. Andy wraps one of his large hands around your throat pulling you against his chest, the movement helping you sink down on both of them. The pride you feel as they both groan makes you smirk to yourself, grabbing Chris’ hand to get his attention. You pull him up and sandwich yourself between the two large men, surrendering yourself to them as they find a rhythm that has you cumming in no time.
You lose count of the amount of orgasms they pull out of you that night, falling asleep between them in bed after they help you bathe. The next day you go into the court and take the stand, wincing as you sit down. You look over to Andy briefly while the defence attorney has his back to you and smile at the subtle smirk on his face. Attempting to get comfortable in the cold wooden chair, you know you’ll be going back for seconds tonight, a thought you get lost in for a moment before the man in front of you clears his throat. You snap your eyes to him not missing the slight snicker from the man sitting in the seats at the back of the room. Oh yes you’d have a good night tonight.

City of Love – Ch. 2
Here’s the second chapter of my work for the @lovebugs-and-snakecharmers secret admirer exchange! (Hey, @crescent-woods if I haven’t said it before, I uh... went a little overboard cause your prompt was so amazing!)
Read on Ao3
First Chapter | Previous Chapter | Next Chapter
Luka was lying down on his bed with his notebook splayed across his thighs as he blared white noise in his headphones and stared at his bedroom ceiling. There was a cobweb in the corner blowing softly in the breeze from their open windows and instead of focusing on writing music he found himself thinking that he’d never even seen the spider that made that web. A shiver ran through him. Blech. Spiders. Missing spiders, especially.
He was supposed to be working on an original song for his composition class. The professor had given them the assignment over the summer, “to get an idea of where you’re at,” the assignment had read, and for weeks Luka had stared at the blank sheet music and… absolutely nothing came to him.
Creating wasn’t really the problem; he’d always been creative. He’d always been fond of letting things come to him while his guitar was in his hands, but he’d never tried to write it down. He’d never cared if it was good or not. He’d never tried to create for a grade. He groaned and ripped his earbuds out to toss everything aside and sat up.
And found Sass leaning into the doorway with his eyebrows raised incredulously.
“What?” Luka snapped.
He wasn’t even sure he could call Sass his roommate. He’d barely even seen him for the week he’d been there. Although what he could’ve been doing was beyond Luka. He didn’t know the city, he hadn’t started classes yet, there was nowhere for him to go and nothing for him to do except see his girlfriend. And as far as Luka knew, they hadn’t managed to meet up yet.
“Rough day?” Sass smirked and walked over to sit down on his flimsy foldaway bed across from Luka.
Luka wiped a hand over his face and cursed in French under his breath. “What do you want?”
“Want? Why do I have to want anything? Can’t I ask you how your day is going?”
“You’ve hardly spoken to me since I picked you up at the airport.” Luka rolled his eyes and flopped back on his bed. “So I doubt you actually care.”
Sass hummed, in agreement or in thought Luka couldn’t tell. “You need to get out of here.”
Luka turned his head to look at Sass and quirked an eyebrow.
“I’m serious, staring at four blank walls, that’s your problem right there. You need to get out, get some air, meet some people.”
“You’re worse than Juleka,” Luka muttered darkly. “You don’t even know what my problem is.”
“I know boiling in self-loathing won’t get you anywhere. Lucky for you I have the solution. A night out with me and two amazing women.” He made a wide “voilà” motion with his arms, like he had just finished a stunning magic trick.
Luka scowled at him, his suspicion growing. “What do you need me for? Two amazing women, just keep them for yourself.”
“Well, one is for me, but the other…” he raised his eyebrows suggestively. When Luka kept scowling, Sass sighed in defeat. “Okay, fine. Tikki is refusing to meet me unless her host is with her. And she’s insisting I invite you, too.”
Luka’s scowl split into a smirk. “Oh, so you need a favor, that’s what this is about.”
“Yes, I need a favor.” When Sass was annoyed, his sibilants drew out into hisses, which amused Luka to no end. Sass rolled his eyes. “So will you come?”
“What happened to ‘I don’t need you, I don’t need your country, I’m too cool for this shit’?” Luka said, mimicking Sass’s subtle lyrical accent.
“You don’t have to be an ass about it. Will you come or not?”
“I absolutely do have to be an ass about it.” Luka grinned and sat up, savoring the way Sass’s scales were getting all ruffled. He could practically see the irritation roiling off his shoulders. “What if I don’t go? What happens then?”
“Then I tell your sister you’re being an awful host.” Sass’s dark eyes flashed as he bared his teeth in a wicked grin. “And she might decide to come along and make sure you make it up to me.”
Luka’s scowl returned. Sass had him pinned, and he knew it. “Fine. Whatever. I’ll go. But I’m picking the place. If I’m being forced out of the house, I’m at least going somewhere I’ll have fun.”
Sass shrugged and smiled down at his phone as he shot off a text, before he stood and stretched. “It’s settled, then. Let’s go.”
“What, now?”
“Yeah, now, what other time would we go?” Sass undid his ponytail and kept the band in his mouth as he redid it, recapturing the strands that had fallen out to frame his face. Now that Luka was looking at him, he was wearing a form-fitting olive green henley that set off his dark features well, along with dark wash jeans and black converse. Not exactly dressed to go out, but definitely dressed for an admiring female gaze.
He looked down at himself, at the ratty blue hoodie with chewed on strings, pit-stained white band shirt, and knee-less black skinny jeans he was wearing. For the hole in the wall he had in mind, it wouldn’t be out of place, but for meeting “two amazing women,” maybe not the best option. He ran a hand over the dark stubble on his cheek and through his hair he hadn’t even run a brush through today.
Sass rolled his eyes. “Fine, I’ll meet you out by your bike. 20 minutes, yeah?” He stood and offered his phone to Luka. “Wanna plug in the address?”
Luka took the phone from him, noting the contact picture of a young woman with a black and red pixie haircut blowing a kiss. Must be Tikki. He shrugged and typed in the name of the club he frequented and the address before he spun it on his palm to hand it back to Sass.
Sass left without another word and Luka pulled himself up to see if he could figure out what to wear. Not that it mattered; the club would be loud enough that he wouldn’t have to talk to whoever came along anyways. Which made it absolutely perfect.
***
“He said yes!” Tikki cried as she burst into Marinette’s room and flopped down next to her on the bed, triumphantly shoving her phone into Marinette’s hands.
“Your boyfriend? Of course he did.” Marinette was smiling as Tikki started chattering away, but her smile disappeared as she scrolled through the text chain. The text chain about meeting up tonight, but only if Marinette came along. Tikki’s insistence that it should be a group outing, that her boyfriend’s host should come along, too, so Marinette wasn’t left alone.
She gaped at Tikki. “You set me up with someone?”
“No, no, no,” Tikki rushed to reassure her, taking her phone back and clutching it to her chest, “not a set up! Just… someone to talk to in case I kinda disappear.”
“Isn’t the point of me coming so that you don’t disappear?” Marinette lifted an eyebrow.
Tikki’s phone pinged with an incoming message and Tikki’s face scrunched in concentration as she checked it. “He sent me an address and said 20 minutes. Do you know this place?”
She showed her screen again and Marinette couldn’t help but groan. Not only at the concept of getting ready to go out in 20 minutes, but also at the club name.
“I’ve been there before. Once. On a date.”
A date that went horribly wrong. He hadn't said anything about being a famous model, or that the press might be following him, or that he had a fiancée that might see him dancing with her in the papers the next day and might decide to stalk Marinette for the next few months. And when the paparazzi had swarmed the tiny club, he’d gotten startled and spilled her entire bright pink cocktail down the front of her white dress. One of her favorites, too. She frowned at the memory of the fiasco. She hadn’t been back since, and she'd sworn off dating to boot.
“We don’t have to go, if you don’t want to.” Tikki’s enthusiastic glow visibly dimmed.
She’d told Marinette a little about the guy she’d been seeing. They’d been long-distance for so long and Paris was halfway for both of them, so they figured they’d meet up, see how it went. Of course that wasn’t the only reason she was there, Tikki had assured Marinette, she’d always wanted to go to Paris. But meeting her boyfriend was definitely part of the plan and Marinette did worry about Tikki being safe. She said she knew him, that they’d been talking forever and she knew what he looked like and he would never hurt her. But it also never hurt to have a backup plan in situations like this.
Marinette sighed. “Of course we’re going.” She glanced over Tikki’s loose staying-home outfit for the day and smirked. “But not in that. Hang on.”
Marinette hopped up and ran over to her closet. “I was saving this for a rainy day.” She flicked through her hangers to find it. The perfect little black dress. A deep v-neck that plunged to where the fabric nipped in at the waist, a flirty skirt that floated away and landed gently just above the knee. Tikki would kill in it with her adorable pixie frame. Marinette showed it to her and delighted in the way her eyes lit up.
“But what about you?” Tikki asked.
Marinette shrugged. “It’s not really about me, is it?” She grinned and tossed the dress at Tikki before turning back to select a light pink tank top, a gray leather jacket and a pair of distressed skinny jeans. She shrugged as she laid them out on the bed and Tikki frowned.
“What if you like this guy?”
Marinette rolled her eyes and bent down to grab a pair of strappy black heels. She raised her eyebrows at Tikki as she added them to the pile. “Et voilà.”
This time, Tikki grinned and ran off to her room, clutching the dress to her chest. Marinette shook her head. As long as it was a one-time thing, she didn’t mind coming along for the night. Whoever this mysterious guy was, one thing was for sure. He was in the same boat she was. So she’d make nice, for Tikki’s sake, and hope for the best. If she hated him, she’d never have to see him again. If she liked him…
Well, that was maybe assuming too much.

Summary: post Doomsday, of places and things lost
For the prompt ‘family’ of @timepetalsweek
***
Jackie took the ripped envelope with reverent hands.
It didn’t make sense, not really. How time passed in this world. Sometimes, of course, she wouldn’t even notice, because calendars here still had twelve months and clocks an hour hand and a minute hand; others, however, she woke up thinking about the ludicrous hole a killer Christmas tree had left in her bedroom and just how expensive fixing it was going to be, only to find herself in a four-poster bed with silk sheets in a room like the bedchamber of Henry VIII, and everything around her crumbled. Those days were the hardest. Those days, she could feel the past like it was around the corner, just at the end of her fingertips—Rose, you came back! Oh, and you, big fella! You’re all mine!—and at the same time distant, remote and non-existent, fading in the way dreams fade the moment you blink awake.
Those days, Jackie thought, she was one step closer to understand her daughter. Because, despite the weeks and the months, she still catches the haunted looks, never misses the blank stares. Because it was just yesterday that she was holding her trembling body in a beach in Norway, and yet it wasn’t. It had been one year and a half. In those moments, Jackie was sure that there was something terribly wrong about the way the cogs turned in this world.
She’d thought she’d like it.
What a silly idea that seemed now.
She shakes the envelope and the paper falls soundless as a feather.
There is only one picture. She had been dismayed when she found out, but Mickey told her that the rest of the files were corrupted and that there was nothing else he could do. Bless him. Those old mobiles had never been too reliable, anyway.
They were smiling.
Why, of course they were smiling, it was the only thing they seemed to be able to do around each other. Her with the dimples on her cheeks, and him with that barmy face and those barmy eyebrows. She didn’t know when it had become their trademark, only that it had.
They were pointing at something outside of the frame, their raised arms cut by the elbow. It must have been something incredible, no doubt, for their eyes were wide and shining. Inexplicably, they both wore two pairs of sunglasses, maintaining an precarious balance at the top of their heads, but they were too lost in whatever it was that had caught their attention to care. The quality of the image is fuzzy and the background is a blur of grey and blue. They could’ve been in Spain or in a moon colony lightyears away from Earth, and she wouldn’t be able to tell. Their expression is one of sheer wonder, and she thinks that’s how they should’ve looked, forever.
Forever wondering, forever marvelling.
And she had once been so worried—worried that she’d lose herself, that on every ship and planet and asteroid she visited, she’d leave a piece of herself behind until there was nothing left. It couldn’t have been further from the truth: her daughter, she realized, had found herself among the stars, and she had soared. And for some reason, this realization brings a pain to her chest greater than any other. And she regrets, regrets, regrets, regrets, regrets, regrets so deeply she can feel her guts turn inside out.
And it only gets worse, because every day she sees her, and she’s trying so hard to build, she’s trying so hard to create and not destroy. To leave a mark, to carve a niche of her own, fit in the spaces between offices and parties and rooms twice the size of their flat. But it’s like Rose always tells her: “I was never born here. There isn’t a hole with my outline. If I want a place for myself, I have to start from scratch.”
Jackie can feel her hands shaking.
She doesn’t know when her daughter became so wise.
Indeed, it is those gaps. It’s those gaps she feels when she wakes up in a bed that’s not hers, with a husband that might look like hers, but he’s alive and well and no longer a ghost. It’s terrifying.
They had left a hole with their outline when they left, and Jackie wonders what it might look like. An empty council flat. With her cheap furniture, a desolate fridge and a broken washing machine. With a tiny bathroom with bad lighting and a crooked mirror. With two bedrooms cluttered with years and years of trinkets and keepsakes that would no longer hold any meaning whatsoever: Christmas postcards and old blankets and earrings and dirty clothes and a bronze medal and magnets of places they never visited.
Of all that, would remain nothing.
But in her mind, as she envisions it, to her surprise she realizes that the house isn’t empty. Not completely. She imagines a shadow, a lonely figure in a long coat, standing in the middle of it all like a salt statue.
She wonders if he will mourn them for long.
And hopes that he will.
Because, as she holds the picture in her hands, she thinks of paper crowns and garlands and laughter and ash instead of snow, and she too, mourns.
***
Someone stands still on Walworth Road and the Earth keeps turning.
The burden had been his to bear.
And that was okay.
It’s always been like this.
Every person he meets leaves a load when they part ways—a bundle of memories, of good times and bad times and a little bit of this, and oh, also a little bit of that—and he carries it gladly. Sometimes with sorrow, and pain, but always gladly. It’s the least he can do. It’s his duty. Or something like it, anyway. The word is too formal and too pompous and he doesn’t like how it sounds in any case.
But it wasn’t a sense of obligation that drove him here. Not because he felt that he had to, or that he owed them (even though he owes them, so much), but because he feels if he doesn’t honour what’s left of them, he doubts that anyone else will. And he can let the world forget—because humanity always forgets, humanity always moves on—their names and their faces and the footprints they left along their path, but he won’t.
So he steps into the flat.
For some reason, he didn’t think there’d be silence. This was never a place for silence; for chatter and laughter, always; for quiet, sometimes; but never for this sheer blankness, this void of sound. Now, however, there is so much of it he’s afraid the flat will burst. He could quantify it, estimate it, calibrate its exact weight and mass, because this silence is something tangible, something that looms and lurks and creeps onto your back. There’s something about it that unnerves this body. This silence makes his nerves itch and tingle and he wants to flee like a scared animal.
But he can’t bring himself to break it.
The TARDIS waits in the children’s playground, because parking it on the front room felt irreverent, and because Jackie always complained about the marks the old ship left on the carpet. Now he’s three floors up, foldaway cardboard boxes under his arm, and he’s crossed the threshold and it’s silent. It takes eight tentative steps, twenty-seven feet and 6.3 inches, and he’s in the living room. He can see the kitchen from his vantage point: the tap dripping every 0.9 seconds and the dirty dishes still in the sink and a mug on the table and everything is so there and it looks so very much the same that it aches. And suddenly it seems like the air turns liquid and dense and the Doctor freezes.
It’s like a snow globe.
It dawns on him that he doesn’t want to touch anything, that he’d rather die before moving a frame or a chair an inch from their current resting place. He wants to keep it this way, forever; preserve an ordinary, utterly unimportant empty council flat against the ravages of time, uncorrupted and uncorruptible. Nothing more and nothing less than a home, lived-in and worn-out, with specks of dust dancing against the sunlight and a half-finished cuppa still waiting for its owner to return. To come back.
He thinks he might wait, too.
He drops the cardboard boxes, and it isn’t until then that he notices.
Beside a too-familiar rucksack, there is a square plastic box. A disposable camera. The classic FujiFilm.
Attached to it, a pink sticky note.
Develop.
Once, it might have been a trivial reminder, just one among the many things in a to-do list, but now it feels more like a dying wish. Unfulfilled.
He doesn’t think it twice.
He’s sprinting down the stairs before he can register that his body is moving at a disproportionate speed, the odds of missing a step and breaking his spine increasing exponentially.
There’s never been a dark room in the TARDIS, and it occurs to him that he should build one, one day. Why didn’t the TARDIS have a dark room? The TARDIS most definitely should have a dark room. That way, at least, he’d save the sidelong glances and the startled faces. Oh. Barging in again, aren’t we, Doctor?
It’s one of those little street shops, wedged and squeezed, fighting for space between a Tesco and an ATM, where you can have your photos printed in an hour and a puzzle or a keychain made with your face on it. Genius. At the counter were two employees with name tags attached to their breast pockets, and they both looked like they were about to ask him to leave. But he’s quick to slam the camera on the counter and rummage his pockets until he finds the right currency, and suddenly their faces turn bright and trustworthy.
So he waits—one hour, as the advert says—and the soles of his chucks punctuate the passing of each second.
When they give him the envelope, he stumbles back onto the street and rips it open.
The crowds pass him by, but he’s glued to the sidewalk from head to toe.
Out of the whole roll of film, there are only three photos. The first one is a table, the tablecloth faded at the edges and with a couple of burst seams, laid out with all sorts of foods—almost too much food—looking like an impromptu banquet, messy and exaggerated and inviting, and he knows exactly when it was taken.
He can’t say the same about the second one.
It’s the cracker they pulled, on a Christmas Eve that was both the first and the last. It was all glitter on the outside until it popped with a short loud bang. The paper crown had been pink and it had matched his, and she had been elated. Halfway through dinner, the telly had blared a season classic and they had tried to dance, tumbling ridiculously as to avoid the chairs and the sofa and oh, careful there, that’s the china figurine cousin Mo brought from Belgium! They had gotten tangled with the tinsel in the process, but her grin had been as wide as her cheeks stretched. Only now, he realizes, that he had been grinning too. Perhaps that was why he couldn’t remember the click of the camera, or Jackie fussing about saying cheese!
He has no clue when this moment happened, only that it came and it was gone in the blink of an eye.
And then the Doctor is left alone, standing still on Walworth Road, and his face is lined with tears.
He only catches a brief glimpse of the third photograph before he shoves the envelope into his coat pocket. It was dark, barely an outline, of two figures pointing at the sky.
I spent Christmas day just over there, at the Powell Estate, with this... family. My friend, she had this family. Well. It was my…
Bringing his hands to his face, he pushes his palms against the globes of his eyes until patterns emerge under the pressure, but no matter how hard he tries the tears keep falling.
The Doctor stands still and the crowds pass him by.
The Earth keeps turning.
An the burden, this time, is too heavy to bear.

Adjusting [Part 1: Violet]
A/N: I was going to wait until I had finished the whole fic to start posting this. I really was. But it’s been a long week month summer and damn it, I've earned something nice. And it was either this or post some more of my Cyberpunk AU, which is in a way less-finished state (although fun fact, it’s actually longer).
Plus, I was listening to Episode 10 earlier today and it gave me all the RJ feels all over again. So, here is my long-overdue, post-episode-10, RJ-centric fic. Or at least the first part of it.
Cross-posted to AO3
---
Summary: It turns out that there isn’t a blueprint for quitting your job, turning your back on the organisation that you’d built your life around, committing treason and abandoning your friends and family to go travel across the galaxy with a band of wanted criminals. Fortunately, RJ now knows some people who have been there.
Or: Five times that RJ McCabe shares a late-night drink with someone on the Iris 2.
---
It isn’t RJ’s first night on the Iris (well, technically the Iris 2, but they’ve all taken to calling it the Iris for short – even Violet, who was on the first Iris) that’s the hardest, it’s the second.
On the first night, they’re so exhausted and overwhelmed from the events of the past several hours that they fall straight into their rudimentary, bare bunk, their head spinning, and are asleep in seconds.
Part of the head-spinning might have been the moonshine. RJ has discovered that the Rumor crew (as they can’t help but still think of them) really like their drink, and a tall flask of moonshine was among the few belongings that the crew had chosen to save from the doomed ship.
“We promised each other that if we got through this, we would have a celebratory drink together in the cockpit,” Sana explains, pouring the moonshine into improvised cups and passing it around. RJ thinks that theirs might be the sawn-off end of a pipe, but is afraid to ask. “There are a couple more of us than we’d expected, but that’s great! The more the merrier.”
RJ isn’t actually much of a one for alcohol – there’s no real story as to why, they’ve just never liked the taste – but it seems impolite to turn it down. Everyone clinks their – vessels – together, and out of curiosity, RJ takes a sip. Oh god.
“Is this lighter fluid?” they demand, coughing. Sana, Krejjh and Brian laugh.
“I think the chemical composition might be similar,” Violet tells them brightly. “Cheers!”
RJ watches Agent Park – no, just Park, they remind themself – take a sip, make a face of disgust, and then down it in one go like medicine. They pass him the rest of their drink.
When RJ excuses themself to go to bed about an hour later, the rest of the crew – including Park – are engaged in a group sing-a-long of ‘Whiskey in the Jar’. It’s a bit surreal.
So, it isn’t that night but the next that RJ finds they can’t sleep, with worries and doubts and memories chasing themselves in circles inside their head. The day had been pleasantly busy, full of learning about the tasks needed to keep a ship running day-to-day, and figuring out where they and Park will fit into the rota of chores, food preparation, maintenance, and – for some reason – movie nights.
RJ had to stop themself from eagerly volunteering for every job, reminding themself that they don’t have to be the driven, overachieving young Junior Agent any more.
(They just aren’t sure what to be now, if not that).
It’s thoughts like this that have RJ lying awake in their bunk long past midnight, restless, miles away from sleep. Finally they sit up, annoyed, thinking that if they’re going to be awake, they might as well embrace it and make some coffee in the kitchen.
RJ pads along the darkened corridors of the ship, trying to remember the way to the kitchen. They gasp and almost jump out of their skin when a dark shape emerges from one of the rooms.
“Hey, sorry, didn’t mean to scare you,” Violet says softly. “I was, uh, just on my way back to my room.”
RJ takes in Violet’s dishevelled hair and her rumpled sweater, together with the fact that the door she just emerged from almost certainly leads to Arkady Patel’s room (RJ hasn’t completely memorised the layout of the ship yet, and the doors all look similar, but there’s also very little chance it belongs to anyone else).
“Cool,” they say, debating whether or not to explain to Violet what they’re doing up at this hour, and deciding they don’t owe her an explanation. “Have a good night.”
“Can’t sleep?” Violet asks before RJ can go more than a few steps past her. When RJ says nothing, Violet adds, “I – know it’s none of my business, but I recognise the signs, and… well, I have some tea in the kitchen that’s really good for insomnia, if you’d… like some?”
“You have tea?” asks RJ, surprised. They’d seen a couple of vacuum packs of instant coffee in the kitchen cupboard (coffee was considered an “essential” as far as the Rumor crew, and indeed Park and RJ, were concerned), but they hadn’t spied a stash of tea anywhere. Tea is rare, even inside the Republic. It’s a luxury that the higher-ups tend to horde for themselves.
RJ knows that the Rumor had a miniature greenhouse with some fresh herbs growing in it (their mouth almost waters at the thought) but there is no way that survived the blast.
“Just a few bags, but it’s enough for now,” says Violet, interpreting RJ’s interest as acquiescence and starting to lead the way into the kitchen. “Coffee’s all well and good, but I’ve always been a tea person at heart. Arkady and I each tucked a couple of bags into hidden pockets in our clothing.”
She smiles at RJ, who has no idea whether or not she’s joking (hidden pockets for tea? Really?), but smiles uncertainly back.
Inside the kitchen, the lights flicker on, and RJ blinks and squints as Violet fetches a foldaway stool from somewhere and stands on it to get to the very top shelf of the cupboard. She glances back at RJ as if expecting a comment of some kind, but RJ is 5’4” themself and just glad to know that there is a stepping-stool in the kitchen.
“Here we go,” Violet says as she pulls down a small cardboard box. For some reason, the words NOT FOR YOU, JEETER are scrawled across the top.
Violet opens it to reveal a small collection of half a dozen teabags. They’re all unlabelled, but she chooses one without hesitation and offers it to RJ.
“This one’s the best for sleepless nights,” she says. “It’s some kind of blend of camomile and… lavender, I think? It’s soothing.”
“Sounds good,” says RJ. “But are you sure-”
They falter, unsure how to finish the sentence. Are you sure you want to use up one of your only bags of precious tea on someone you barely know? Are you sure you even want to be spending time with me, an agent who literally threatened to shoot you and turn you in?
“I’m sure,” Violet says, like she knows what RJ isn’t saying. “It’s here to be drunk. Besides, I could use a cup myself, if you don’t mind sharing?”
The two of them sit in silence as they nurse their cups of tea. RJ isn’t sure if the tea is helping them to feel sleepy, exactly, but they do feel slightly more settled than before.
They keep expecting Violet to say something, anything, but she seems content to maintain the silence. It isn’t until they’re both down to the dregs of their tea that she ventures,
“I know it’s a… hell of an adjustment, going from having structure and a purpose of some kind to being out here. Even though the Regime wasn’t perfect, I still felt like I was doing meaningful work; that my life was leading towards something. After I came on board the Rumor… all of a sudden, I wasn’t part of some bigger whole. I was just me.”
RJ nods slowly, still looking down at their tea. They don’t really feel comfortable with offloading or asking for advice from someone who, despite the frankly ridiculous amount that RJ knows about her daily habits, thoughts and preferences, is still a virtual stranger. But it is nice to know that someone else on the ship gets what they’re going through.
“And there’s no… shortcut to getting over the years of brainwashing and internal contradictions that the IGR forces on you,” Violet continues. “Even though the others sometimes don’t seem to get that, they do understand, I promise. And you’ve got time. You’ve got… all the time in the world.”
Something about that statement makes RJ’s spirits lift for reasons they can’t explain. It doesn’t feel like freedom, exactly, but a pressure has let up. Maybe they don’t need to figure out the answers to everything right away.
After they bid Violet goodnight and get back to their bunk, they focus on that thought as they finally drift off to sleep: the idea of having time, and the choice to spend it however they want to.

:Rings
there may somewhere be a center
& i hope to know it at least a while, while standing there
the ring remains long after the jewelry is removed.
:Mindlessness
you could be forgiven for imagining anything different if you were after all, imagining anything at all.
:Bait
how slow does the deer’s leg move
when she knows she’s being watched
:Freeze
the light that passes through something
frozen is no less warm
the snow falls, swirls, rises, & falls again. it always has
:Build
the furnace they use to make bricks, piled high by little hands, placed neatly here before neatly there before, finally, home, is the same furnace they use to cremate their dead
:Husky
if all you are is all you leave behind, then huskys are never gone
:Enchanted
there are blessing you do not want - which is easy to say sitting in the bounty of an orchard
forgetting how deep the roots run.
:Frail
i had wanted to fall apart in very
specific ways.
but no one can choose how the world will break them. no, they just break.
:Swing
i can hear the sound of backyards i don’t remember & wonder what is youth
:Pattern
it is always easiest to see what comes next when what before it, is broken
:Snow
wet socks on the radiator under the front window
there is a tea kettle almost singing in the next room
i wonder how much energy do we have left?
:Dragon
what are you looking for?
there are things you can’t find.
a generous reminder
:Ash
pick up a bone from the ashes of last night’s fire
-singed, gray, crumbling
it is easy to forget that these were sturdy, these were wings, that they once flew.
i toss it into the woods
:Overgrown

when i show the blade of an axe it still does not question
:Legend
cleaning out the attic- the head band reeks of sweat long after the moisture is gone
:Wild
foraging isn’t the same as living
bunch up your sweater around your elbows & wade into the water
:Ornament
unpacking the decorations & stepping backwards down the foldaway steps
you wipe away the dusty of the preceding year & it hangs in the air a moment before resting.
:Misfit
does it matter if it breaks if it still fits?
the only question: does it work?
:Sling
the hardest part of the bone flexed till it cracks & fuses, later stronger, still
:Tread
it is easy to forget the tires spinning when the car is upside down
so you imagine the breath in your lungs pushing past your lips & filling he cracked rubber with air.
:Treasure
we left the canoe on the lake bed
when it started taking on water the shore looked
so far away, but you paddle anyway. that’s the only way
it ever gets closer.
:Ghost
you were the singer of the ghost band & you always wore white.
how impossible the lives that live inside our skin. what are you not
:Ancient
nothing lasts in the hollow of cinder blocks, dark & air, stacked high by hands chafed & dark in the sun
nothing last underfoot, at the backside, a part of the light.
:Dizzy
the summer heat runs down my back
& into the stupid air.
it is a sidewalk chalked by children to say love in the shadow of a fence leaning against it’s rusting poles.
I do not know where you are
:Tasty
when the door closes for the last time
you realize it’s the scent - crisp & apple -  you remember
:Dark
the last time you watch the sunset is the first time you watch the sunset.
& the night is more night then you ever recalled, glowing like ice in water.
:Coat
we still quote the trash we found in college - we get it mixes with who we are - it coats our history
:Ride
the lobster charm printed with “Nova Scotia” still slides across the outside of your thigh - hanging from the ignition of the car you still drive.
do you remember the gift shop where i picked it up? the sun straight through the dusty window. we laughed.

the way your skin will always look, you think, until it doesn’t.
a cold comfort before you bleed.
:Catch
it is the rain falling into open hands & soaking your skin, the thought that some of it is held a little longer
:Ripe
you spent the summer sharpening the blades you’d need in harvest
so walk the rows of crops, inspect them, wonder how they grow
in the blasting sun. the handles of these tools are worn smooth

In an ironic turn of events, I'm sleeping on the couch now.
So my flat was a adhd-person-in-home-office-for-months- during-quarantine-mess, which is to say actually worse than since I while because I normally would get out of the house regularly enough to have the cleaning lady over. But now that I'm at work for a full week she was over today.
Now as always she worked her magic, and managed to put all trash into big trash bags. But because I live in an apartment building and me only have two containers it's also the middle of the week, not all trashbags fit. So my cleaning lady put them in the big free spot in my living room so I can carry them downstairs myself when the containers get cleaned out.
But the big free spot she choose to put the bags? Is the one spot I keep free because it's where I open my bed too. Since I have a very fancy foldaway bed.
So I'll sleep on the couch for a few nights 😂

Dog Friendly Holiday Parks – Top Travelling Tips
Take a dog friendly holiday
Tumblr media
With over 8 million dogs in the UK, it’s no wonder there are so many dog friendly holiday park destinations to visit in the UK now. Your dog is part of the family and taking a break with your dog could not be easier to plan. Many holiday cottages, lodges and hotels offer dog friendly accommodation so camping does not have to be the only option! So what are you waiting for? Start preparing for the perfect holiday with your dog.Firstly, decide where to go. There are many great places to visit and the following locations are just a small selection that have won awards for dog friendliness:
Perranporth, Cornwall 2017 winner for best beach. Perranporth has one of the best beaches in the country. Miles of golden sand and sand dunes. Beautifully clean and a great beach for exercising your dogs and taking in the beautiful views. There is also a dog friendly pub on the beach – what more could you want!
Keswick, Cumbria received the most nominations in the Kennel Club’s ‘Open for Dogs’ Awards to win the most Dog Friendly Town category for four consecutive years 2012-2015. Many of the pubs and shops will welcome dogs and the location offers miles of dog friendly walks and some amazing scenery.
Brecon Retreat, Powys 2017 winner for most luxurious dog friendly hotel. Dogs are made so welcome with their own special treat hamper. Special doggy towels and shampoo and hot running water outside for muddy paws. Soft beds and poo bags and even dog tags with address details in case they get lost. Everything has been thought of.
Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. Not just great for pork pies, Melton Mowbray was voted most Dog Friendly Town for 2017. The town has been working hard to gain this title and has recently added a dog agility area to the country park. Dog friendly businesses display ‘pet welcome’ stickers. Read all about what the town has been doing here
Kelso, Scotish Borders 2016 Best Dog Friendly Town winner. Kelso offers many places to stay and eat where dogs are welcome. This includes the public parks and woodland and also the historic Kelso Abbey allows dogs on leads.
Wells-Next-The-Sea, Norfolk has won best beach 2014 and best beach café in 2015. Norfolk has some amazing beaches, parks and campsites and many attractions for all the family.
Tops Tips for the car journey:
Take your dog out for some exercise before the journey to work off excess energy and to toilet. Plan in several stops for breaks. Check out the en route dog friendly eating places if the journey is a long one. Take some dog travel bowls for drinks and food, bottled water and food treats.
Make sure your dog is comfortable and safe in the car. If your dog uses the back dog car seat cover, make sure he has a travel harness to keep him secure. Or if using the car boot in a hatchback or 4X4, there are many travel crates on the market that will fit in the boot space. Alternatively a car boot bed to keep your dog snug and comfortable on the journey.
Tumblr media
Essentials to pack for your dog friendly holiday:
Dog shampoo and dog towels. If you dog loves mud and swimming then you’re sure to need plenty! A dog drying robe is just the job to dry off your wet pooch after a beach or river dip, or a quick shampoo to remove sand and mud!
Travel collapsible dog bowls for water and food.
Grooming kit to keep your dog’s coat tangle free after a day playing on the beach. A great foldaway tote bag to keep all these items together is the Paws Plus One canvas dog tote bag. These foldaway tote bags are great for travel and shopping and will fit neatly into a handbag.
Your dog’s food, chews and treats. Enough for the duration of your trip.
Dog toys and balls for beach play. Another good use for a foldaway tote bag! The foldaway tote bag can be personalised with a photo of your own dog to make it extra special and there will be no doubting who it belongs to!
Plenty of poo bags. Always clear up and dispose of your dog’s poo in the appropriate bins. Please do not bag and leave behind.
Has your dog been chipped? It is now law for all dogs to have a dog tag and microchipped. Make sure your dog wears a collar and a tag showing your mobile number.
A cooling dog coat and/or fleece dog coat e.g. Hotterdog dog jacket or dog jumper. These are great for the cooler days as they are water repellent and dry very quickly. They also fold up neatly for packing.
Dog collar and lead.
Take down details of a local vet, just in case of emergencies.
Right then, what are you waiting for, have a great holiday with your pooch!
