so. its four am. i am upstairs in my bedroom. theres a mouse in my fucking room and its eating something. it cannot be overstated just how loud this bitch is- it sounded like someone carving xps foam with a knife. now, since their is no sleeping while a mouse is eating something in my room (there is no food. i know where it is and there is no food- i saw it run across my floor so i know it's not in the walls.) obviously i turn the lights on and decide to see if i can catch this fucker with a box. he's in the corner, behind a wooden apple crate full of books, next to a chair. i go over, sit on the chair and wait til he starts eating again.
now, it's clear that he's behind the apple crate, but the thing is there is something else behind the apple crate. a great big sheet of foamboard.
like this.
so i, genius that i am, take the foamboard (which is at an angle) and slam it against the crate.
WOOSH! i watch the mouse sprint out and under my chair, then lose sight of it. the plan worked. (why a mouse was eating an apple crate like the world's largest cracker, i don't know.)
so i sit there for a bit, basking in my victory, scanning the room for the mouse, when
i hear a small... plop. and then another, and another, and...
i heard, what was unmistakably the soft jumps of a mouse hopping down stairs that are five times it's size.
UPDATE: IT WAS EATING AN ACORN. i heard it hopping back upstairs but it wasnt so soft anymore- frightened, i chucked a pillow down them. i went to check and there was an acorn on the steps with a small hole chewed in it and little crumbs all over it.
another update: we have a hav-a-heart trap set out (cage with lid that closes when mouse goes in, you put treats in to lure the mouse) and i put some peanut butter and the same acorn in there

Enhancing Outdoor Spaces with PVC Foam Boards: Weather Resistance and Durability
Creating a beautiful and functional outdoor space is a dream for many homeowners. Whether it's a cozy patio, a vibrant garden, or an inviting deck, the materials you choose play a crucial role in determining the longevity and aesthetic appeal of your outdoor space. PVC foam boards have emerged as a popular choice for enhancing outdoor areas due to their exceptional weather resistance and durability. In this article, we'll explore the benefits of using PVC foam boards in outdoor spaces and how they can transform your outdoor living experience.
What are PVC Foam Boards?
PVC (polyvinyl chloride) foam boards are lightweight, rigid panels made from a blend of plastic and foam. These boards are known for their versatility, ease of use, and high resistance to various environmental factors. Unlike traditional wood or metal, PVC foam boards do not warp, rust, or rot, making them an ideal choice for outdoor applications.
Weather Resistance: The Key to Longevity
One of the primary reasons PVC foam boards are favored for outdoor use is their outstanding weather resistance. Here's how they stand up to different elements:
Moisture Resistance:Because PVC foam boards are waterproof, they're a great option for places that get a lot of rain or humidity. They don't absorb water like wood does, so they won't swell, bend, or decay. Because of this, they are perfect for use as poolside chairs, garden planters, and more.
UV Resistance:Many materials can fade and deteriorate after extended exposure to sunlight. Nonetheless, UV inhibitors are applied to PVC foam boards to shield them from the damaging effects of UV light. This indicates that even after years of light exposure, they maintain their structural integrity and colour.
Temperature Fluctuations:Temperatures in outdoor areas can fluctuate greatly, from the intense summer heat to the bitterly frigid winter months. Because PVC foam boards have a high temperature tolerance, they won't break or become brittle in harsh weather.
Durability: Built to Last
Another feature of PVC foam boards is their durability. They are a sturdy choice for outdoor areas for the following reasons:
Impact Resistance:
PVC foam boards are able to tolerate knocks and bruises without breaking or denting easily because of their strength and resilience. They are therefore appropriate for regions with heavy traffic and locations where they might occasionally receive knocks and bumps.s.
Pest Resistance:
PVC foam boards are resistant to termites and other insects, unlike wood. Your outdoor furnishings and buildings will stay secure and undamaged over time thanks to this insect resistance.
Low Maintenance:
One of PVC foam boards' greatest benefits is how little upkeep they need. They can be cleaned easily with soap and water, and they don't require frequent painting or sealing. For busy households, this ease of maintenance is a big plus.
Applications of PVC Foam Boards in Outdoor Spaces
The versatility of PVC foam boards allows them to be used in various outdoor applications. Here are some creative ways to incorporate them into your outdoor spaces:
Outdoor Furniture:
Sophisticated and long-lasting outdoor furniture, such as tables, chairs, benches, and loungers, can be made using PVC foam boards. Your furniture will look fantastic and last for many years because of their resilience to moisture and UV radiation.
Garden Planters:
Utilising PVC foam boards, construct raised beds and personalised garden planters. They are perfect for retaining soil and plants without deteriorating over time because of their resilience to moisture.
Decking and Flooring:
For outdoor flooring and decking, use PVC foam boards. They are a durable and safe option for patios, pathways, and decks because of their non-slip surface.
Fencing and Railings:
PVC foam boards can be used to build fences and railings that are both attractive and resilient. They require minimal maintenance and withstand the elements better than traditional wood fencing.
Signage and Decorative Elements:
Enhance your outdoor space with custom signs, decorative panels, and privacy screens made from PVC foam boards. Their ease of cutting and shaping allows for intricate designs and personalization.
Conclusion
PVC foam boards offer an ideal solution for enhancing outdoor spaces with their exceptional weather resistance and durability. Whether you're looking to build durable outdoor furniture, resilient decking, or decorative garden elements, PVC foam boards provide a versatile and long-lasting material that can withstand the harshest environmental conditions. By choosing PVC foam boards for your outdoor projects, you can create a beautiful, functional, and low-maintenance space that you and your family can enjoy for years to come. Embrace the benefits of PVC foam boards and transform your outdoor living experience into something truly remarkable.
