Wooh! This is a cool idea!

I've been on Tumblr for over half a year but I've been struggling to move my audience over from Twitter. I'm here mostly doing stuff relating to my "Flowerpunk" webcomic, but I am also very active in political stuff. In particular, I talk about LGBT+ topics, disability, animal rights and especially environmental issues and the Solarpunk movement. In fact, I'm active in a re-wilding project right now and will be doing more posts about that to try and encourage other people to get involved in re-wilding and permaculture.

My art and my politics aren't separate, I'm using my art to try and make the world a better place :)

If you're an artist and are having trouble building followers, especially if you're new on tumblr or back after leaving, reblog this with some of your art. Ko-Fi Challenge - 2024, the Year of Solarpunk!

[This post is intended for the Ko-Fi January 2024 challenge. However, I receive an error message every time I try to post this blog on Ko-Fi so I am uploading it here instead. I therefore don't know if I will quality for the challenge since I cannot get my posts to work, but it's worth a shot].

Hello everyone, I hope you are all having a great start to the year!

I have decided to dip my toes into the Ko-Fi January challenge and let everyone know about my plans for this year. Really, I only have one plan – Do something small every day to make the world a better place. But I plan to go about doing this in a big way.

The last several years have been extremely troubling with a lot of catastrophic Global crises happening on a daily basis. It's all around us and it feels inescapable. People are tired of the constant flood of bad news, they're tired of doomscrolling and they're tired of the deluge of films that portray some different flavour of the apocalypse. Even us artists can't escape into our art for comfort anymore because of the constant spectre of AI technology threatening to make our work obsolete. The future looks very grim and a lot of people are not looking forward to the year ahead.

That's where "Solarpunk" comes in.

Solarpunk offers an alternative to all of the doom and gloom and presents the idea of a bright future in the face of cataclysm. It is a movement both political and artistic designed to reignite our souls and excite imaginations with ideas rooted in science and observation of the world around us. Even if it is utopian, it's a utopia grounded in what is realistically achievable and the current tools we have at our disposal to succeed.

Now you know what Solarpunk is, here is where my art comes into all of this and what I am planning for the year ahead.

Flowerpunk.

The first and most important project I want to launch this year is Flowerpunk.

Flowerpunk is my webcomic that I have been developing since 2020. Taking place in a universe where magic has been reduced to nothing more than a commodity, the magic itself is starting to decay, causing the soul of the world itself to become sick. It is up to a group of punks and outcasts to take back the magic and heal the world of this rot.

For those who haven't seen it yet, I put up a trailer for the webcomic on Webtoon, Tapas and GlobalComix. Please check it out!

These first 9 chapters follow two main characters, Kimi and Ludwig. Kimi is a gentle soul who has a thing for pastel colours and Ludwig is a rebel with a burning spirit and big hopes.

They both have a pretty terrible taste in music as well!

A lot of work has already gone into this project. I have most of the world-building done, there's a whole myriad of magical creatures featuring in this universe and the first part of chapter 1 is only 11 panels away from completion.

Furthermore, Flowerpunk is an IP under a CC BY-NC licence, meaning that you can legally use my characters and creature designs for anything that is not monetised provided that credit is given.

"This license allows reusers to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format for noncommercial purposes only, and only so long as attribution is given to the creator. Credit must be given to the creator. Only noncommercial uses of the work are permitted."

To give some examples of what you can do:

~ Make derivative versions of my work (writing, art, AUs, etc...).

~ Make OCs from my species, or use them for your own stories removed from the original universe as long as the work remains non-commercial.

~ Use my creatures or character likeness for RP characters or in DnD/tabletop campaigns.

~ Using my work for any educational purposes (such as copying a drawing for an art study).

I want this project not just to tell a story of radical hope, but to also encourage the creativity of others and their own storytelling projects based in this universe.

But that's not all! Once Flowerpunk launches, this will lead me onto the next part of my plan which is...

Merch.

I would love to launch some new merch to help support Flowerpunk's development, including stickers, pins and most importantly, motivational posters. This image below is the kind of thing I am aiming for:

These posters will also be used on social media to help inspire people to take action and fight for a better world. And speaking of social media...

Social Media, TikTok and Twitch.

I plan to start Twitch streaming my process later in the year and I may even consider inviting guests to do chats and interviews with. This is inspired by the time I appeared on a LumiRue Twitch stream back in March of 2022 and the extremely productive conversation we had about art and activism. I also have shorter videos planned for my TikTok discussing a variety of topics, including Solarpunk (obviously), my webcomic universe, autism and disability and much more!

Recently, I created a Solarpunk feed for Bluesky and I plan to continue contributing more positive news and ideas to this feed. The feed consists of art, videos, book recommendation, games, real-world projects (such as re-wilding projects) and much, much more! The feed has seen a great success so far and I want to continue using it to spread positivity. I may even start inviting people to add their own contributions to the feed!

In Conclusion.

Despite the challenges we face this year, I feel like it's going to be a good one moving forward. There is a lot to look forward to and a lot of cool stuff on the way!

Also, I wanted to take a moment to thank all of the people who have supported me here on Ko-Fi over the years, it really means a lot to me and has helped so much. Even small donations make a huge difference, especially in times like these when things have become so precarious for artists.

These are just some exploration doodles of the idea, I might do something more refined at a later date. Kimi will also be getting a fursona at a later date when I can think of a design for him.

(Anyone who is new to Flowerpunk, this is what Ludwig usually looks like).

There's also another character in Flowerpunk who happens to be a fursuit designer and has their own fursona. They're nonbinary and autistic, plus they are a huge nerd for palaeontology and cryptobiology (since there are magical creatures in this universe).

Yeah, if Ludwig drew a fursona for himself, then he definitely had to make one for Kimi! I just had to make him the sweetest and snuggliest lil' thing because he's just such a ball of positivity. Also had a lot of fun designing his little cat boots. Don't be fooled though, he's still an anarchist and will still claw out a fashie's eyes if given the chance :)

July Commission Slots OPEN!

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to say a huge thanks to all of the new followers I have gained over the last few days. Thank you all for taking an interest in my work and I hope you are looking forward to more of my nonsense!

Secondly, I just wanted to let everyone know that July commission slots are now open! I specialise in work on TTRPGs, OCs and fantasy/Sci-Fi stuff in general. In particular, I like drawing dragons and magical creatures, and recently I've started dipping my toes into doing furry art again (I used to draw furries back in the day but stopped due to getting so many shitty comments from horrible people).

To those who have been following the project for a while, I have to apologise for taking so long getting it off the ground. Since I am a full-time freelancer with a disability, I can only do so much work in a day, which means I'm going at a much slower pace than I had hoped, plus I am still battling autistic burnout from the hell I went through last year. Nonetheless, a launch date for this year is still very likely.

Been feeling super down recently so I decided to draw my webcomic chars, Ludwig and Kimi, being good bois and doing mutual aid work for their local community ^^

Whenever the world becomes a harsh place, I always remind myself not to give into the passive nihilism that has gripped our society. If we want the world to become a better place, we have to push back against the casual cruelty and cynicism.

It's a difficult battle, but it's worth it. Even the smallest changes you can make are worth the fight.

Flowerpunk - An introduction.

Hello everyone.

I thought I should make an introduction post to the webcomic I am developing called "Flowerpunk." If you would like to see the trailer for this webcomic, it is currently up on both Webtoon and Tapas.

Flowerpunk is a modern-day dystopian story set in an alternate reality where the world map is flipped and magical elements exist. In the city of Wyrdon, a supernatural plague known as "the rot" has taken hold, infecting everything and everyone. As a result of this plague, many of Wyrdon's citizens have been turned into maggots, but instead of doing anything meaningful to help the situation, the Government has instead made the choice to simply bury the former citizens under the city pavements and ignore the problem.

Disaster Capitalists have turned the few remaining magical elements of this world into a commodity to be bought and sold, ensuring that these life-saving technologies necessary for staving off the rot are put behind a steep paywall. A lot of these technologies are purposely faulty so that they break within a certain timespan, ensuring a constant need to purchase more.

A group of rebels known as "the lovely anarchists" are fighting to combat this injustice by stealing the technology and removing the "planned obsolescence" element so the tech functions more effectively. The goal of the lovely anarchists is to spread a message of radical compassion and hope, but they are embroiled in a brutal war with the mainstream media trying to paint them as violent terrorists trying to sew chaos.

One of these anarchists is Ludwig Striker, AKA the "King of Hearts", a member of the commune's community defence team and defender of society's most vulnerable members.

He comes to the rescue of the wayward soul, Kimi Hopper, who was recently made homeless after his parents kicked him out.

After this chance encounter, the duo begin spreading radical compassion across the city with the help of their friends, fighting off the rot one soul at a time.

Opening up commissions for this month!

Hello everyone.

Firstly, I just wanted to say a big thank you to all of the people who have followed me recently. One of my meme posts went viral recently and I am glad it is bringing people so much joy.

Flowerpunk Bestiary - Sabre-Toothed Swan.

Starting off the Flowerpunk bestiary with probably one of my favourite creatures to design, the sabre-toothed swan.

The sabre-toothed swan is a truly frightful beast. Feared even by the nocturnaphrax and the vorkuu, the sabre-toothed swan is known for its savage nature and is often referred to as the bully of Darkling Forest.

Standing up to 30 feet in height, you do not want to pick a fight with one of these. Their claws are extremely sharp, particularly the claw on the lifted toe used for slashing anyone that gets too close, and their wings beat strong enough to knock you over. They have a bite force of about 5,000 PSI and are known for swallowing prey whole. Their diet consists mostly of water creatures, including kelpies. Those enormous dagger-like teeth are used for latching onto particularly energetic prey.

They have been known to exist in flocks, but the flocks typically don't exceed 10 members. It isn't uncommon to see lone pairs or even a swan that has existed by itself for a long time.

These creatures communicate both through vocalisation and body language. The majority of their vocalisations come from the pseudo-gills on their necks, which are specialised sound-producing organs. The majority of sounds produced are too low-frequency for human ears to pick up. They also communicate by chattering their jaw, which is often mistaken for rapid gunfire.

Their most famous sounds are their hellish screaming-honks, which with the help of their pseudo-gills can reach a deafening 130 decibels.

Breeding season takes place between April-May and the mothers typically lay 7 eggs, much like their smaller counterparts. However, the cygnets will remain with the mother well into adulthood and often don't migrate far from their original home. It is believed that the behaviour of these creatures has changed drastically as their species has become increasingly threatened. Family bonds are very strong and while swans will relentlessly bully other species, it is rare for them to fight amongst themselves. The parents are fiercely protective over their young and will batter anything that gets too close.

Surprisingly, cygnets are much more docile than the adults and may even imprint on you. The swans are capable of befriending humans on extremely rare occasions, usually if a human directly benefits the survival of their cygnets.

Cryptobiologists have also discovered that these creatures, much like all mega-fauna capable of flight, have unique magic-producing ganglia distributed throughout their bodies. These "Mana-Ganglia" are what allow the creatures to fly, or even exist at all. However, flight is extremely rare and only takes place during migrating seasons, if at all.

On a final note, it is still up for debate what hidden form these creatures are capable of transforming into and cryptobiologists still argue over whether it is the nearby Willow trees found by freshwater bodies or boulders. The oldest sabre-toothed swan on record transformed itself into a stone bridge as its disguise, the final form it eventually died in which still stands in its original location to this day.

Flowerpunk Bestiary - Brain Bird.

Introducing the brain bird.

This cute little ball of fluff is known for one thing - its uncanny ability to provide anyone who meets its gaze the power to only ever make the right decisions in life. However, this comes at a heavy cost.

Due to how small and vulnerable these creatures are, they have no choice but to team up with a larger host. The brain bird slowly starts taking over the host's capacity to make decisions and the host eventually becomes entirely dependant on this bird. Because of the bird's tragically short lifespan (average 1-2 years), the death of this bird spells disaster for the host. Eventually, the host either suffers a tragic crash in ability, often leading to horrible outcomes like a ruined life, destitution, relationship breakdowns, starvation or death.

The birds have been seen as a bad omen across cultures and have become the victims of brutal culling. However in recent years, they are highly sought after and are becoming increasingly difficult to find as the magical creatures die off. It is rumoured that the few that remain are owned entirely by the billionaire class. Many people have questioned why on earth anyone would want anything to do with these creatures, but there are throngs of individuals who are already at rock bottom - be-it because of addiction, debt or other modern-day perils - that would gladly give up their decision-making skills to have just a small taste of success.

It is heavily speculated that the birds are not acting out of malice. Cryptozoologists found that the birds form an extremely strong bond with the host, and it would appear that it is this devotion to the success of their host that slowly drains and eventually kills the bird in the end. Dissections of their brains have uncovered highly developed centres of the brain that play an important role in emotional intelligence and problem solving.

Skeptics have even claimed that the birds don't actually change the lives of their hosts at all, that in fact the whole thing is a scam made up by rich idiots trying to sell desperate people snake oil. The brain bird may be nothing more than a placebo effect.

Though not entirely solitary, the birds prefer the company of their hosts to one another. Mating season requires the bird to have their host transport them to the mating grounds for a week or so, where the birds show off their hosts to one another. The birds wit the most successful hosts are usually the most successful at getting a mate.

It is also unclear how these creatures communicate since they are completely mute and refrain from moving around too much. Presumably, they communicate telepathically, and some evidence that suggests this would be the needlessly-long staring contests the bird engage in.

Their diet consists primarily of seeds, nuts, berries and vegetables. In particular, they love water cress, broccoli and spinach.

Like most magical creatures, these birds have Mana-Ganglia distributed throughout their bodies, the highest concentrations of which sit behind their eyeballs. They are also speculated to be able to shape-shift into elf owls as their primary disguise.

This is a character from my upcoming webcomic, "Flowerpunk." His name is Mumbeltrousse and he is a type of Phraxai (the "dragons" of this universe). Sometimes they are also referred to as Madagascan honey dragons.

He is a character I designed way back in 2013 and have been redesigning over and over again ever since until I finalised his design in 2020.
