"A.J. Greer moving ahead with Nosek. Greer, into the Tampa zone. Greer for Nosek! Save, Vasilevskiy! Rebound! Score! It's a shorthanded goal! A.J. Greer gives the Panthers the lead!" "Ho-oh! Just a skate by after the original chance. There's the strip of the puck. Now, here goes Greer on his horse down that left side, delivers the pass, there's the shot, and Greer stayed with it. He could've just peeled off, and get back if they weren't gonna get possession because they're still shorthanded but he stuck with it, and Vasilevskiy would like to have that one back. Never a bad play to shoot the puck, and it snuck in, inside the post and the glove. His first career shorthanded goal."

Theatre South Playhouse in Florida put on a holiday edition of Ride the Cyclone, I thought I’d post a few highlights/iconic changes.
*I saw it today (December 22nd), which is actually Ocean’s birthday! Ocean is so incredibly special to me as a character, so seeing the show on her birthday made it all the more special.
*Karnak’s opening line “Greetings children, it’s time to play” was changed to “Merry Christmas, children, it’s time to sleigh.” Iconic, 10/10, no notes.
*The nativity scene during Noel’s Lament:
“There is no room at the inn, for it is Christmas.”
*Entire cast stares out into the audience with a knowing look, and collectively goes “Ahhhhh?? 😏”
*Mischa refers to his YouTube channel as “Bad Eggnog.”
RTC is a pop-up show at this theatre, meaning it is going to come back at a few different points next year! It’s going to be at Theatre South for at least one week every month of January, February, and March of 2025. I can’t recommend seeing it enough if you’re at all interested in the show and able to stop by. See below: The stage, Playbill, and a keychain I bought from concessions :)

Are y’all evacuating? Hope y’all are safe. Did the eggnog survive last time?
This kind of made me giggle a little I do hope your safe first and foremost but I think i remember you mentioning your so used to storms that you don’t usually evacuate 😭
We've only evacuated once in my entire life and that was bc nobody knew where Irma's bitch ass was going so the whole state just left 😭 I had never seen so many Florida tags in Alabama in my life

When her boyfriend Graham (Roderick) invites her to spend the holidays with his classic Connecticut family, she eagerly accepts. Excited to dive into the quintessential Christmas she’s always dreamed of, Leah quickly discovers that fitting in with Graham’s uptight family and his not-so-welcoming mom (Niven) is easier said than done. As holiday traditions clash and awkward moments pile up, it is not quite the cozy Christmas that she expected."

Torn between keeping her job loss a secret and embracing a newfound sense of belonging, Tory ends up bartending at Rocky’s, transforming it into the vibrant “Hanukkah on the Rocks” celebration. Through festive food, drinks, and games, she revitalizes the bar, bonds with Jay, and finds the courage to pursue her true calling. As Tory navigates the holiday, she learns that sometimes a detour can lead you exactly where you’re meant to be, lighting the way to a future filled with joy, romance, and self-discovery."

My aunt died today
CW: Meat Muffin got a big whammy today. She is The Sad right now. Sprinkling instant coffee into her spiced eggnog. Neighbor Doug is in Florida and it'd be weird to text him.
-------
Unlike my uncle Bill, we knew Aunt was going. But it hurts so much.
I found out from my mom on 4th of July weekend. Pancreatic cancer, 4th stage. It was everywhere.
Aunt canceled her trip to New Zealand, saying there was no way she was going to make it to next year. My mom told her not to do it, miracles happen.
They didn't. Not this time.
She died at 4:32 am, 12/23/2023. Her son, my mom's godson, called my mom sobbing. Jack never cries, he's a hardassed little punk who took his hardassery and got an MBA from Wharton, he is a VP of a company now. We used to clobber each other all the time as kids, and it drove me nuts, because he and his brothers (who are my brothers best friends) were some of the subjects in the Darth Maul tale, fierce and funny and so fucking smart.
All from their crazy assed mom, my aunt, who had the verbal whip of a Kirkson and Ellis attorney, the sass of a whole Southern church, and loved my mom like a seagull loves an open dumpster.
Aunt was my mom's best friend, her ride-or-die, and ever since I became an adult, I got dragged to their random lectures at Local Big University or art galleries, where Aunt would OPENLY ROAST THE PRESENTER.
One time we got kicked out of a lecture at MIT because my aunt was just being That Bad and my mom and I couldn't stop laughing. I think the lecturer cried. Ellen's response? "For a Ph.D with some Bronze Stars, he sure can't handle criticism!"
I hate this so fucking much.
Both her and my uncle Bill (who just passed as well) were my parents best friends. They weren't married. Hell, they were the opposite.
Bill was a quiet, introspective nerd with no children and only an ex-wife from the 90's, and Ellen was a loud, crazy, Metis Valkyrie with a pack of insanely successful sons and a church that loved her.
She's gone too. He's gone. Christmas Eve is tomorrow.
I don't know how I'm going to do it.

the winnebago speaks
My wheels settled easily into the dust and gravel of Eastwoods Campground & RV Park. There was snow on the ground, and the lowest bough of the tree above me almost brushed my roof. I liked how quiet it was.
You rarely stayed in one place long, before Kepler. We traveled together from Oregon to Florida and back, and so when we stopped in Kepler I was expecting to leave the next day, or maybe the day after.
My Indrid: you have not taken me to a mechanic in fifty years, the fifty years we have been together, no. The saffron magic of Silvain has flowed through your hands and into me, no need for oil changes or wheel rotations. My tire traction is always impeccable. The faux-leather of my steering wheel is stained with the sweat of your hands. I am not like a human, whose cells regenerate; I wear the evidence of every touch forever.
That day you sketched frantically, huddled over my tiny table with a mug of hot eggnog at your elbow. And when you’d drawn the ruins of Leo’s General Store you hurried out the door to the payphone on the other side of the campground.
You looked so cold as you talked on the phone, shoulders huddled, the wind pressing into you.
Whenever you are away I call out to you. I say, here I am, here are my four space heaters humming, here is my metal door to keep the heat in, here my little booth and formica table, here my microwave and hot-plate, here my refrigerator, here my ragged carpet, here our bed. Here we are.
Sure enough, when you were done on the phone you hurried back inside me, folded your knees to your chest as you sat on the sofa with your sketchbook, pen-tapping nervously.
That was the first time you drew Duck Newton, standing authoritatively in the light of the Pizza Hut sign, though I did not recognize him then. And after you’d drawn him, when your visions had shown you whatever you were looking for, all the tension in your muscles ran out at once, the pencil dropped from your hand, and your head drooped backwards.
“I can’t believe they managed it,” you murmured, wonder in your voice.
The next morning three humans arrived. This was unusual. You rarely entertained guests, but these three you opened the door for an instant before they knocked. A gray-haired man in a loud tie, a young woman with dyed-red hair and scorch marks on her jean vest, and a man in a park ranger uniform who you couldn’t quite take your eyes off of.
You spoke their words as they did - I love when you show off. You offered them mugs of eggnog. You tore down dramatically the drawings you’d hung on my wall, and announced that the funicular was going to crash.
The three humans - the Pine Guard - left again, and you paced. My corridor, such as it is, is long enough for you to take five steps before turning around, and you took those five steps back and forth for almost an hour.
Then, after the disaster was averted, you fell into a restless, twitching sleep.
I am the cocoon you curl up in, your pale limbs soft like the flesh of an insect newly eclosed.
Sometimes on moonless nights you climbed up onto my roof and took your glasses off, spread your wings over the weather-worn metal. I keep the secret of your true form faithfully, just like I keep all your secrets, the things you murmur when you are alone in bed, and the many futures not-to-be.

Big big anxiety right now. I normally sleep in my van while I'm here but it's windy and icy tonight, I've had a dream about branches falling right next to me at camp a couple days ago and a dream about the van crashing last night, something in my brain is saying to sleep in the house tonight. Probably just being silly but I went out there and laid in bed for like ten minutes and just couldn't relax. It's too windy to smoke weed so I had an edible. My vape is almost out of juice so I might go out tomorrow to get a new one and just drive around, maybe get groceries or something. I haven't really left since I've been here aside from a quick Walmart run a couple days ago (I've been here a week, will be here another week.) They're calling for big winds and snow/ice for this week. I don't know what I need right now. I need to relax I guess. Might go back outside later, we'll see, I kinda hate sleeping inside and I love the cozy feeling of cold air surrounding me while I'm warm inside a thousand layers and blankets... I hate the sound of the house fan (?) like that constant whirring... It's ok. I also hate the sound of big gusty winds blowing around in the trees above my head and rocking the van. I'm grateful that I'm here with my family and I have a safe place to be. I'm back in the room where I was staying when I first bought my van, which is actually almost 3 years ago exactly, and we also had a snowstorm that same time. Full circle, you know? I'm relaxing. Let this edible kick in. Listen to music and think about happy positive things. Maybe have a glass of eggnog in the middle of the night.
In another week I'll be in Florida in a nice house with my friends and I can sit outside all night and drink beer and smoke weed and no one will care. No one cares right now! I'm here and it's great! Relax and enjoy it! Life is full of ups and downs. One night of anxiety doesn't mean anything.

Thankful For What’s Next on the HAVE COFFEE WILL TRAVEL Podcast!
Disney, antiques, beer, music, food, travel and more!
Welcome to the Thanksgiving episode. We were going to do a deep dive into the history of Thanksgviing, but we thought better of that idea. The topic is too vast and full of controversy to be covered easily. Instead, we talk about the things we are grateful for. Family is always at the top of the list. But, let us not forget our warm homes, the delicious food, and the friends we have. There is so much to be thankful for, both at this time of year, and the whole year through.
Canada Post is on strike. The mail is not being delivered. Co-host Shawn works for Canada Post. This strike directly affects Shawn and Leah. Strike pay is not very much. Each day, Shawn must participate in the picket line for 4 hours if he is to receive his strike pay. This pay is not nearly enough to cover groceries or bills, but the cause the Union is fighting for makes it all worthwhile. Good paying jobs, a decent pension, and safe working conditions is not too much to ask for.
Shawn tries an eggnog White Russian beverage. As a big fan of the film The Big Lebowski, it is almost a requirement to enjoy a White Russian. Leah found a recipe. You will hear Shawn’s reaction to his first sip on this episode! You too, will be thankful for what’s next!
Shawn and Leah are excited about their upcoming trip. For a week they will be experiencing Orlando, Florida. Jollywood Nights at Hollywood Studios is just one of the events they will be enjoying. There is a beer spa to visit. The Lakeland Antique Mall is only one of the stops on their thrifting adventures. Disney Springs and the Earl of Sandwich are just 2 of the upcoming attractions to visit. On their final night, they will be in Grand Rapids, Michigan to see and hear the Transiberian Orchestra.
And finally, the hosts talk about their ETSY shops and recent sales. Leah’s shop is called collectandcaston, while Shawn’s is called RustedRobotToys.
