"I happen to be very confident in my own skin. It takes time to get to that place, but it’s all about embracing yourself and your body," ~ Christina Aguilera
"SKIN, New York, USA" by Florian Innerkofler, 2023
Series: SCULPTED
Arty-Fact: "I am fascinated by Greek and Roman historic marble statues. The idealised physique of the male and female body was and is a constant inspiration. The perfect chiselled shapes and proportions. The smooth skin. It is an ideal 3-dimensional mapping of the human body.
"Through layers of pastel colour blocks and the monochromatic black and white image, I wanted to approach this world with a more contemporary look. I also incorporated a multi-exposure layer, which shows the black-and-white photo in different graduations and densities. This is a classic darkroom technique where you would do exposure strips with various exposure times to find your perfect combination of time and light to expose the final image. It is a strip exposure technique.
"Combining classic human body shapes with the double layer of exposure and colour blocks is a new chapter in my photographic storytelling." ~ Florian Innerkofler

Doyers Street (2013)
Lily Gao and Laurent Caillat in a short film by Florian Innerkofler.
"Inspired by the Hong Kong based director Wong Kar-Wei and his masterpiece In the Mood for Love my short movie Doyers Street illustrates all the fleeting moments living in a city, where we encounter people constantly. Surrounded by all those people you can feel quiet alone but sometimes a single glance could change it all, or not."

Appropriate Bistro Bergsteiger in Sesto
21 July 2020
Design: Plasma Studio
Location: Sesto Dolomites, North East Italy
Appropriate Bistro Bergsteiger
Located in the midst of the Unesco Natural Heritage area of the Dolomites of Sesto, in a position used as a tourist hotspot, Bistro Bergsteiger fits properly and carefully into its natural and built context.
The edge of an embarkment, located along a well-known hiking trail, is used to insert the new volume and to integrate it into the surrounding topography.
The view from the entrance to the valley, on a mountain landscape that closes the area to the south, is not reduced by the insertion of the new volume, just as it does not visually interfere with the existing protected building.
The dimensions are reduced as much as possible, and the geometries adapt to the existing presences.
On one side, the building faces the Cima 12 towards south, and on the other side it dialogues with the surrounding buildings.
In plan, the new volume aligns with the listed building, while the reduced heights are studied to connect its southern elevation with the overall profile of the constructed elements. The result is an architecture that is “appropriate” to the context, which nevertheless develops with character.
The double-pitched roof surface is treated with intensive green and rises towards the main view; full-height windows allow the eye to wander over the mountain landscape. The interior is designed in order to offer an undisturbed view to as many visitors as possible.
The main room is composed of different areas: the counter, the circulation space, and the two dining areas, defined in order to enhance the sense of intimacy and tranquility, and to allow a wide view thanks to the difference of height between the floors.
The glass façade that separates the interior space from the exterior terrace can be opened: in good weather, the outdoor space can be extended inwards.
In terms of materiality, the building is inspired by the nearby listed structure: spray plaster inside and outside, and a larch wood cladding designed as a contemporary reinterpretation of the old decorative motif.
Exposed screed and plaster prepared with local stone and sand, the use of Dolomite stone, and local larch wood for the furnishings enhance the relation of the new building with its context.
Nomen est omen: the owners of the bistro are the descendants of mountaineering pioneers, Michl and Sepp Innerkofler, and the documentation of their first ascent is part of the interior design.
Dialogue with the context and moderation in the intervention define a project that is fully defined in its “appropriateness”.

🇮🇹 La dolce vita | La vita è una spiaggia 🇮🇹
"QUERCETANO BAY, Italy (B&W)" by Florian Innerkofler, 2022
Arty-Fact: One of the most notable aspects of Florian’s career has been his willingness to do more than a spot of globetrotting in search of the assignments that have helped fuel his creative practice.
Quercetano Bay is set in the seaside town of Castiglioncello, not far down the Tuscan coast from Livorno. This beautiful spot was put on the map by the cult classic 1960s film, Il Sorpasso (also known as The Easy Life). With its diminutive castle, pine forest and laid-back charm it’s not hard to see why Castiglioncello continues to draw a crowd.
Florian captures la dolce vita in this homage to Quercetano Bay.

"Snow flurries began to fall and they swirled around people's legs like house cats. It was magical, this snow globe world." ~ Sarah Addison Allen
"SNOW STORM OVER MANHATTAN, New York, USA" by Florian Innerkofler, 2012
Arty-Fact: One of the most notable aspects of Florian’s career has been his willingness to do more than a spot of globetrotting in search of the assignments that have helped fuel his creative practice.
This eagerness helped put him in touch with photographic luminaries including Andreas H. Bitesnich and Greg Gorman during the earlier stages of his career. It is a tendency that sustains him today, as he tackles projects in such wide-ranging corners of the world as New York City, Tokyo, the remote Arctic Circle, and almost anywhere else one could care to mention.

“At the beach, life is different. Time doesn’t move hour to hour but mood to moment. We live by the currents, plan by the tides, and follow the sun.” ~ Sandy Gingras
"LONG BEACH CROWD, New York, USA" by Florian Innerkofler, 2009
Arty-Fact: For Florian, photography is more than just taking pictures. It's about looking beyond the surface and seeing the world through his unique lens. His interpretation of photography is not just about capturing a moment in time but rather about capturing the essence of that moment. He explains, "It's about creating an emotion, a feeling, a memory".

"'Cause you belong to the city, You belong to the night, Living in a river of darkness, Beneath the neon light." ~ You Belong To The City, Glen Frey, 1985
"SILHOUETTES OF THE NIGHT, New York, USA" by Florian Innerkofler, 2009
Arty-Fact: Florian has firmly established himself as an art photographer who looks well beyond the notion of photography as mere documentation – as crucial as said documentation is. Instead, he is determined to create works embodying the spirit of a moment that a photograph can capture. Or, to put it in his own words: “It’s about creating an emotion, a feeling, a memory”.
