Peru: Salineras de Maras - Photo #1
flickr
Peru: Salineras de Maras - Photo #1 by Doug Craig Travel Photography Via Flickr: This one is from the salt evaporation ponds at Maras, Peru, approximately 40km north of Cusco. There are more than 5,000 of these ponds. According to Wiki: "Since pre-Inca times, salt has been obtained in Maras by evaporating salty water from a local subterranean stream. The highly salty water emerges at a spring, a natural outlet of the underground stream. The flow is directed into an intricate system of tiny channels constructed so that the water runs gradually down onto the several hundred ancient terraced ponds. Almost all the ponds are less than four meters square in area, and none exceeds thirty centimeters in depth. All are necessarily shaped into polygons with the flow of water carefully controlled and monitored by the workers. The altitude of the ponds slowly decreases, so that the water may flow through the myriad branches of the water-supply channels and be introduced slowly through a notch in one sidewall of each pond." Quote of the Day: "Truth does not become more true by virtue of the fact that the entire world agrees with it, nor less so even if the whole world disagrees with it." (Maimonides)

where in the world 31 - te mata, nz by KeefH Hellinger Via Flickr: photo taken by KeefH Web Designs for travel websites want to see more images or read the blog? www.holiday2007-8.co.uk/NEWZEALAND Te Mata Peak, located in the Hawke's Bay region of New Zealand, is a stunning natural landmark rising to 399 meters above sea level. It's part of the Te Mata Hills and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes, including the Heretaunga Plains, Tukituki Valley, and even Mount Ruapehu on clear days. The peak is steeped in Māori legend. It's said that the silhouette of the peak resembles a giant lying down, known as Rongokako, an ancestor of the Ngāti Kahungunu tribe. The story tells of his love for Hinerakau, a chief's daughter, and his tragic demise while attempting impossible tasks to prove his devotion. Visitors can hike, bike, or drive to the summit, enjoying panoramic views and exploring trails through forests and limestone valleys. The area is also popular for activities like hang gliding, paragliding, and mountain biking

The temple has quite an interesting history established over hundreds of years. Here is a link to some of the related historical information for those of you who may be interested. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bulguksa Quote Of The Day: "Most of our faults are more pardonable than the means we use to conceal them." where in the world 313, wexford, ireland

where in the world 313, wexford, ireland by KeefH Hellinger Via Flickr: taken and uploaded by KHWD, shells view from the island want to see more images or read the blog? www.motorhome-travels.net/post/blog-129-eire-ireland Tell me about the island across the bridge in wexford and especially the campsites there? It could be useful to my fellow motorhomers of which there are quite a few here on Flickr! The island is Great Island, which is connected to Wexford by the Barrow Bridge. This bridge, built between 1902 and 1906, is a fascinating piece of engineering history. It was once the longest bridge of its kind in Ireland and played a key role in the development of the Fishguard and Rosslare Railway. As for campsites, there are several options in the Wexford area. One notable spot is Ferrybank Caravan & Camping Park, located just a short drive from Wexford Town. It offers 52 hard-standing pitches with electric hook-ups and water facilities. Another option is The Trading Post, a family-run park near Enniscorthy, which provides a countryside camping experience. If you're looking for something coastal, St. Margaret's Beach Caravan and Camping Park is close to the Blue Flag-awarded Carne Beach. There is a municipal campsite on Great Island which we stayed on and this pic was taken there by my good self looking back to Wexford town.
