i finally beat da2 and this is what it felt like
Tumblr media
I have some criticisms about the ending but I don't know if I have it in me to get fully into it so instead I will simply just say...
Carver as a Grey Warden is one of the best character developments to me out of all the companions, hands down. I would probably argue he has the most character growth out of everyone in those three acts and most of it is off screen in the years him and Hawke are apart. LOL. And even then I was still SO satisfied with how Hawke and him came together as family in the end!
RIP to Isabela leaving my Hawke behind in Act 2 though btw.
ALSO OF COURSE, HONORABLE MENTION TO MY BELOVEDST FENRIS. ✨💗 It was lovely to see his puppy dog eyes again 🥺
I mentioned before I do not take a lot of interest in templar/mage or the Qunari plots and that still holds true. Act 3 was Hawke fighting for her fucking life trying to support mages but every fucking one of them just kept resorting to blood magic. By the end I was getting so sick of the story falling to the same plot device over and over LOL.
Overall, I still enjoyed myself revisting the game after a decade though! I can't say I hold it as highly as I used to. It was my first game into the series afterall so I didn't know any better lol (origins my beloved) but yeah just... the personal relationships between Hawke and her companions/family was carrying the game for me.
Anyways..... now on to INQUISITION!! 🤺

touch wood bc im always crashing and burning on shit like this but lately ive been somewhat remembering to keep up with a bunch of positive habits ive been trying to stick to for years.
ive noticeably been off my phone, my screen time is way down from last week, and the effects are def being felt. like all the shit where i was always feeling like i had no time, well, actually i do if im not spending a bunch of time distracted by twitter lmao
i know putting it down to one or even two things is too simple but i feel like a bunch of stuff has had a domino effect lately of positive changes adding up. i no longer am hosting people i didnt wanna host at my place, its not unbearably hot outside, im feeling way more secure in my relationships, im feeling confident due to noticeable skill improvements, and all those things are compounding each other and helping me maintain a lot of baseline stuff (mostly cleaning) which is then making me feel even better and able to do more of the stuff i often put off
4 example i finally made an appointment for my next tattoo, finally contacted my apt place about fixing my washer, am actually doing my skin care routine, actually clipping the dogs nails more (tho that ones mostly on him for fighting me lmao), im trying to ease my way back into reading too
a couple changes that are helping are, for one, i changed my morning routine up so i have like 20 minutes before making breakfast to start nursing my cup of coffee while i check my computer, respond to messages, and kinda mentally prep for the day, also instead of having either pure silence im trying to fill with picking out some other youtube video or being on my phone or whatever, im trying to just turn the tv on and let it play american dad (or whatever show ive already seen a million times) which i know sounds like it should be distracting but for me its not, and i really realized that recently that of course it would feel normal to just have the tv running thats literally how i grew up for my entire childhood and adolescence- im also giving myself my specific time for listening to music and time for listening to podcasts, and for podcast-esque yt vids, again everything towards having less mental hangups while trying to get other stuff done, AND im giving myself time to actually catch up on things like podcasts (im up to taz graduation now) which is also handy for not using data in my car, i actually set myself on a 5gb/month plan and this past month i had a whole gigabyte left over! + im amble to stick to the skin care routine better, for example, bc i realized just bc its a before bed skin care routine doesnt mean i have to do it RIGHT BEFORE bed, ie when im fucking sleepy and also dont want my face to feel weird & distracting. like i can do it a couple hours before, even, esp if im not going out. also this is either gonna sound silly or totally reasonable but ever since i got back into elden ring, the feeling its giving me of facing obstacles, getting defeated, but getting back up and trying harder and winning is like genuinely doing so many positive things for my self esteem and brain chemistry right now. also timers! i love timers! having an idea of how long something is taking me, or giving myself a predetermined block of time to do something, or just to nudge me to remind me what i was up to, super helpful
anyway im kinda going thru a transitional period rn bc im improving on a personal level a lot but my social life is kinda whacked out due to communication breakdowns and one of the key people moving states this week, but at the same time im also much more secure in my ability to socialize and bridge gaps and be there for people so its a very mixed bag but im trying to not just survive but thrive right now

November Report and the Next Big Steps
Hello again!
It’s been a week since the demo launched, and I’ve learned a lot since then.
Overall, the response has been very positive, despite the admittedly bumpy launch (major issues have since been fixed, so please make sure to update the demo if you haven't yet). A recurring observation is that many players are missing some essential mechanics early on such as reading messages on the computer lamps by touching them and are finding the early-game learning curve a bit rough.
While I did intent to push new-age boomer shooter enthusiasts off their comfort zone and in general to maintain an alienating theme, I didn’t intend for the difficulty curve to be this steep.
As a result, the main focus of version 1.1 will be a dedicated tutorial zone designed to ease players into the game’s core mechanics. Inspired by Elden Ring, the tutorial will be skippable if you don’t need it. Here’s what I have planned, but feel free to suggest anything else you think could be clarified further.
Tutorial Zone Highlights
Clearer guidance on reading messages on the computer lamps.
Introduction to bunny-hopping, as the game’s movement system centers around it (more traversal upgrades will come down the line).
Lock-on targeting mechanic, inspired by Metroid Prime.
Basic swimming controls.
Explanation of save rooms.
Emphasis on exploration as a core aspect (resources are scarce, except in combat-heavy areas).
Introduction to green, blue, and red grids.
A boss fight to conclude the tutorial because why not?
Additional 1.1 Features
Added lore for deeper immersion.
New options to hide the HUD and hide guns.
Minor adjustments to other levels and the hub.
Minor visual adjustments.
Further bug fixes and balance adjustments based on continued feedback or personal findings.
Known Issues
Brief stutters when fighting newly introduced enemies. This is a Godot 4.3 engine issue, planned to be fixed in 4.4. The stutters lessen with playtime and are brief, but I’m fully aware this isn’t ideal.
Mouse button remapping limitations. Left, right, and middle mouse buttons remain separate in the keymapping options, as backend programming isn't my strong suit(I fucking suck at it). I hope to eventually hire help for this or improve my own skills over time.
Intermittent crash possibly linked to the lock-on function. I cleaned up some code that could have caused a crash, but it's unclear if this issue is fully resolved or if other factors might still trigger it.
Standing on top of enemies. Personally, this is a pet peeve since no one’s reported it as a problem but I spent days trying to find a workaround and I am still searching for an elegant solution any advice is welcome! This is a cry for help.
Thank you all for sharing your thoughts and suggestions! Your input has been invaluable for refining the game, and I’m excited to bring these updates to you.

Part 1/? of saying my peace on ER. Here’s some thoughts on bosses I need off my chest. Yes, I know it’s yet another "Elden Ring boss opinion" onto the pile.
1. Malenia is really good
Now that DLC is out, I feel very comfortable in saying this. To me there's 2 elements that really make the Malenia fight really good; the "Clashing" and the "Back and Forth". Functionally speaking, most bosses in ER are unstoppable, you cannot prevent them from taking an action (outside of stance breaks/parries). With Malenia having “player-like” hit-stun, you get some control over boss aggression. For example; when she does a side dash, you can quickly jab to prevent the follow up slash. This is a fight where weapon speed and reach can completely change your strategy; by being able to hit first or from further. I love that using a halberd vs. a mace allows for different opening in this fight. Likewise, Malenia being vulnerable to knockdown/launch moves allows you to forcibly get her to back off, you can create your own breathing room. Also, just think about how wild it is that something like Sheild Crash or Crucible Horn has strategic value vs. the hardest base game boss.
I also love that Malenia’s healing adds a layer of uncertainty to the fight. You cannot easily math out the number of hits or spell casts needed to bring her down. Likewise, even if you’re currently winning, it is possible to lose all progress in a few mistakes; it keeps you on your toes. Theres also the threat of overcommitting, thanks to Waterfowl being an attack-chain opener. I love that all this comes together to give a very natural “go in” vs. “step out” flow to the fight. Lastly there’s also how visually honest the fight is; she is a light-armoured curved blade user and fights exactly as advertised; straightforward enemy archetype but boosted to 11.
Ultimately, it’s also how I wish more enemies in ER had a good offence-defense flow, while also being able to break up enemy patterns. I think ER has an issue with how free it is to roll-out of attacks you commit to (arguably a recovery/stamina cost issue); Waterfowl (somewhat) fixes this by demanding that you commit to a series of defensive actions in a row. Obviously, it’s not reasonable to give every enemy a Waterfowl-like super, so perhaps chaining back-rolls is too free. On the ‘Clash’ angle, there’s also how moves that launch or push enemies aren’t useful against most bosses; what if they could be used to interrupt enemies too large to push? (eg. Deflecting bosses with Stamp-Uppercut).
2. Godskin Duo is bad
The biggest problem IMO, is that both Godskins have the same default ranged attack; fireball. Arguably, their melee movesets are also not distinct enough (possibly due to them being designed as solo bosses first?). Sure, it’s true that Noble (rapier user) has more front-thrust moves than the Apostle (polearm user), but both movesets include enough lunges/sweeps. Essentially; fight 1 guy + periodically dodge fireball.
I bring this up because of how older souls games have done the duo boss concept better. With DS1: Ornstein + Smough, the 2 fighters have wildly different size/speed; it affects the rhythm of their moveset, how they move across the arena and distance at which you can engage them. Smough has no ranged attack; if you choose to melee Ornstein first – he will attempt to close in as well (as opposed to Godskin where the other will just hurl fireball). Phase 2 is also affected by which member of the duo is killed first; there’s a reason to pick 1 target over the other. In summary; I think Godskin Duo does not feel like facing 2 complementary fighters, where you strategize over which one to fight first.
3. 3X Rot Crystallian is good
Based on everything I said above, this is secretly the best multi-way boss in ER. Each member of trio does something distinct; Spear guy rushes with frontal stabs, Ring-blade pelts from range, Magician slowly charges up big zoning blasts. The ever-looming Rot status also adds long consequence to taking chip hits.
To me, multi-way fights are most interesting when each member has a distinct role; fighting an archer + soldier duo is more interesting than 2x either. If you treat the entire unit as a boss, it becomes a question of which weapon do you disarm first? Also having limited moveset isn’t bad here, rather it adds distinction to each member.
4. Rennala (phase 1) is my least favorite boss
Fight is non-threatening, it is hard to get hit by anything. Once the shield breaks, its just a damage race; made worse by the fact she has very specific weaknesses (strong vs. magic. Weak vs. status.). There's also very few ways to get better at this fight; outside rote-memorizing the shield scholar locations. It’s the worse thing a boss can be: not too hard or too easy; just empty process.

~ Thanks for reading

Upgrade Your Steam Deck Experience with SteamOS 3.6.19
Tumblr media
SteamOS 3.6.19 release with big update for Steam Deck support in a variety of areas, even games. Thanks to the Valve team and all the players who shared their feedback. Available for all owners via Steam. Good news, fellow Steam Deck users. SteamOS 3.6.19 has released with a whole range of updates, tweaks, and fixes to make our Deck experience even better. Let’s dive into what’s new, and I’ll keep it simple and to the point.
System Updates
First off, SteamOS 3.6.19 now runs on an updated Arch Linux base with the Linux kernel bumped up to version 6.5. What does that mean for us? It translates to better hardware compatibility, smoother performance, improved security, and a more stable system overall. If you’ve had any issues with random crashes or slow updates, those should be less of a problem now. Speaking of SteamOS 3.6.19 updates, they’ve made future OS updates quicker, which is always a win. Also, there are fixes for certain microSD cards, especially some SanDisk ones that were being misread by the Deck. Plus, session restarts should be faster, especially if your system glitches from GPU errors. If you’ve run into issues with long play sessions causing crashes (like the annoying ‘page allocation failure’). That’s has a patch too. And for those unlucky few who had corrupted Steam installations, recovery should now be smoother.
Wi-Fi and Connectivity Fixes
Steam Deck also fixed several Wi-Fi issues. You should have fewer connection problems, especially if you’re using WPA3 security or Wi-Fi 7 access points. Plus, Valve’s handheld should handle cursor alignment and performance overlay glitches more effectively. Which is also a nice touch.
SteamOS 3.6.19 Display and Performance
For anyone using the OLED model, display issues like weird refresh rates, gray lines during boot, or random screen blacks should be gone. There’s also better color balance and gamma uniformity, meaning the display should look crisper and less “greenish” in low brightness settings. VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) issues with external displays have also have a fix now. Due to make gaming on bigger screens a better experience.
Bluetooth and Controllers
Big win for Bluetooth users—there’s improved pairing for Apple AirPods, and new support for HFP and BAP Bluetooth profiles. They’ve made sure only certain Bluetooth devices (like controllers) wake up the system. So your Deck won’t suddenly power on when you don’t want it to. Some controller bugs have been fixed in SteamOS 3.6.19 too. Check out the gear that now has support through each link, so you can get exactly what you need. Especially for the DualShock 4 and DualSense controllers. Also, Steam Deck now officially supports the ASUS ROG Ally extra keys, Raikiri Pro controller, and Machenike G5 Pro controller, which is great for those who use these peripherals.
Desktop Mode and Docking
If you’re a fan of Desktop Mode, there are a few KDE Plasma updates (now at 5.27.10). SteamOS 3.6.19 also offers a bunch of fixes to ensure smoother switching between Desktop Mode and gaming. External display issues (like blank screens or crashes) should be fixed now too. For those using the Docking Station, there are new HDMI CEC features, meaning you can control things like waking up the TV or switching inputs with your Deck, which is pretty neat.
Battery Life and Power
Steam Deck LCD users will notice up to a 10% battery life improvement under light load situations, which is always welcome. There’s also better power management with fixes for things like random power LED blinking.
SteamOS 3.6.19 Game Fixes and More
A bunch of game-specific fixes are also apart of the changes. Titles like BlazBlue Centralfiction, Warriors All-Stars, ELDEN RING, and Disgaea 5 Complete should all run smoother without those annoying display glitches or crashes. Even game recording should work better with fixes for colors and capture issues.
Final Thoughts
Overall, this is full of useful upgrades, from better Bluetooth and controller support. Also, smoother display handling and more reliable updates. So, if you’ve been running into any of these issues. SteamOS 3.6.19 should make your Valve handheld that much better to play games. Time to get gaming and enjoy these fresh fixes. Available for all owners via Steam.

If you're playing Elden Ring on PC, be sure to go into Steam, right-click Elden Ring, go to Properties, click Local Files, then "Verify integrity of game files..."
This will basically check all the game files, make sure they're good, and re-download anything that's missing or corrupt (it may take a while, so just let it do its thing until it finishes). It'll give you a message at the end that either says "all files successfully validated" or "3 files couldn't be verified and will be re-downloaded now". If it does have to re-download anything, then that will probably fix your crashing issues
FromSoft usually mentions to do this after every patch, so I guess they know ER's updates are a bit buggy
Yup yup im already doing that uvu ueueue its rare cuz it usually never happened to me w other patchs and it had been a while since i havent done it ueueue but ty ty uvu
very rare to happen ueueuueeu crying i was just starting a magic sword run eueueu

Ngl Elden Ring is one of the single worst gaming experiences I've ever had. And I don't mean difficulty-wise, the game is hard, obviously, that's why it's fun. But the amount of glitches and crashes I experienced from a game that is, according to Steam itself, "great on Deck" is straight up unreal. Like, this is the first time ever where I encountered a game that straight up DISCONNECTS MY CONTROLS during a boss battle. I am fighting and then I'm not, destined to lose as my butchy samurai just stands there without being able to do anything. Fucking unreal. I would be mad if it wasn't so damn funny
And the best part is, I found a guy who had the exact same problem and dm'ed to ask if he ever found a fix and his response was "oh, I simply defeated the boss before my controls disappeared again"

There's a game rn that's unfinished but you can still buy the work in progress on steam
And I guess it was going well for a bit until a recent update that made the game unplayable for a lot of people
So now if you go in the subreddit every other post is "My game keeps crashing, how do I fix this?"
And the devs will hop on to be like "what's your specs?" And it's lowkey annoying bc like dude. Your game is buggy as hell after a major update. Stop asking for specs.
Anyway I came across one of those posts rn and the op responded to a dev like "my specs are better than what you've recommended on steam." Like oh. Gamer Girls have stepped into the chat. They've been playing Elden Ring. They won't take this.

man. anyone else on pc dealing with a bunch of crash issues since ER's dlc launch? did anyone find any sort of fix or are folks still dealing with intermittent issues? I keep wondering if it's something on my end or ER's and I just have to wait or something for a fix by fromsoft.

Baldur’s Gate 3 dethrones CSGO on Steam and defies Larian expectations
Tumblr media
Blizzard CEO Mike Ybarra reveals via Twitter that a Diablo 4 season journey glitch that prevents you from receiving awards in the RPG game will be fixed soon as he declares that he has completed the series of seasonal challenges in Diablo 4. Your problems with a task that, despite being completed in-game, won't advance appropriately keeping you from finishing Diablo 4 Season 1 should soon come to an end. I’ve already spent around 30 hours with the game, the first few of which were dedicated to choosing my race and Baldur’s Gate 3 class, and I can safely say we’ve got an all-timer on our hands. The rest of the internet agrees as the Steam numbers don’t lie. If you thought the initial Baldur’s Gate 3 launch success was already impressive, the fantasy game is continuing to shatter all expectations. We’re now looking at a concurrent player peak of 712,281 players, which has risen by around 200,000 since we last checked when the game launched earlier this week. Will BG3 reach one million? Only time will tell. That’s not all though, as BG3 has done the impossible and dethroned Valve’s CSGO for the global top seller spot (but not concurrent players). That’s right, Baldur’s Gate 3 is at the top of the Steam charts right now. The Baldur’s Gate 3 bear scene reveal already helped Larian’s adventure rocket up the charts in early access, but the momentum has now propelled BG3 all the way to the top. When BG3 hit 500,000 concurrents game director Swen Vincke said they should “Probably should stay away from the IT team for a while – told them they should expect like 100k or so at max.” Sorry, Vincke, we may have destroyed your expectations (it’s for good reason though, promise). BG3 has also already managed to crash multiple online platforms and forums because so many people were playing it, proving that single-player experiences are still very much desired, which isn’t a massive surprise. I doubt Baldur’s Gate 3 will stay on top of CSGO forever, and the colossal concurrent player numbers are going to plateau at some point, but it’s still incredibly impressive. To put it into some perspective, Cyberpunk 2077 peaked at over one million during launch, and Elden Ring came up to an incredible 950,000 last year, so BG3 is doing an incredible job of catching them up on Steam. If, like me, you’re new to the world of BG3 and D&D and want some history primers we’ve got all the Baldur’s Gate 3 lore you’ll ever need. We’ve also got everything you need to know about the Baldur’s Gate 3 max level to help you rise up the ranks. Read the full article

Lots of factors contribute to this trend, too, esp in the AAA game space! (spoiler: they're all #capitalism lmao)
Reviewers know they'll get more clicks the sooner they publish their review, since it will be fresher in the public's minds, and they need to compete with other reviewers (more traffic to their site = more ad revenue). Game publishers know they'll sell more copies of their game the sooner favorable reviews come out. So, big publishers take the obvious course of action: sending out advance copies of their game to select reviewers to play, so that the reviewers have time to get a review up by the game's release date, or even a couple days before! Essentially, earlier reviews = more money for all involved.
Already you can see an implicit flaw here -- reviewers need to keep a good relationship with the publishers in order to continue receiving advance copies of the game! While no publisher would openly admit to requiring an X-or-higher score, there's certainly unspoken pressure on the reviewer to appear as "fair" as possible. This may be why you see more leniency towards...
Bugs and glitches!! These can range from silly little quirks, to immersion-breaking frustrations, to full crashes that can ruin the entire game experience! These used to be a home run for game reviewers, because it lets them appear fair but honest ("While there's a lot to love here, the game is held down by its constant crashes"). You don't need to form a nuanced assessment of whether a game is fun if it literally doesn't run. However! Every game now has the ability to patch updates even after the game is out. Virtually nobody will experience the game as it exists on the printed disc anymore. Day-1 patches have become industry-standard, where immediately upon a game's release, it has an update.... and remember, reviewers want to have a review ready to print by the time this happens! So now, reviewers tend to hand-wave bugs as pesky little things to be ironed out later, or even something that may already be fixed by the time a consumer gets their hands on it! Did you know that in some cases devs even create a special patch just for reviewers, so they can be judged on something closer to a Day-1 patch? They're literally playing a different version of the game, so it's much easier to give a higher score even if something game-breaking happens, as a show of good faith that it will get fixed (and an indirect bid to the publisher to continue receiving advance copies).
And finally, the size and scope of games has gotten so, so big that it's frankly unreasonable for a reviewer to give an adequate assessment of the entire experience. It's just not possible given the time frames. Even with an advance copy, if a game takes 100+ hours to complete (think critical darlings like Elden Ring or Zelda: TotK), that's nearly 3 work weeks of full, 8-hr days!! At the most charitable reading, it will not reflect the average player's experience to marathon through like that... and that's to say nothing of things like New Game+, experimenting with all the possible builds, approaching missions in multiple ways, etc. Then extend this to live service games, behemoths like FFXIV or Fortnite that invite players to log in every single day and experience an endless churn of new content, games that are happy to become your lifestyle if you let them... it's impossible for any single reviewer to capture the full scope of this! So they do what they can, play what they can, and use that experience to fill in the blanks. And at that point, why NOT be a little more generous with the score, for all the reasons mentioned above?
Big fat TL;DR: Video games as a medium, notably in the AAA space, are so big and ever-changing they're nearly impossible to fully review, and the extreme pressures of immediacy in online journalism force reviewers and publishers to make compromises both schedules and scoring to maximize revenue through clicks/copies sold.
I don't often listen to the mcelroys / the besties anymore, but I needed something to listen to that wasnt a fuckin bummer while im cleaning... and the second half of their armored core 6 episode really hit home lol griffin was talking about how he quit doing video game reviews / critique because it isn't about speaking about the art form & journalism anymore. it's about Branding™ and advertising and being "appealing". there's no truth to it. and when peer reviews come in, the numbers are fucking meaningless!!!!!! because ppl will give a game a perfect score and then in the LAST paragraph be like "well yeah there's some game breaking bugs" as an after thought and its???????? BRUHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I feel the same fucking way. I have scathing critique of video games but it isn't because I'm trying to be a miserable person who hates fun. it's because I love games as art, very much! and the glaringly obvious shit that (ESPECIALLY) AAA studios get away with and then get rated with perfect scores across all media outlets is simply fucking jarring to me and he was like saying how having these standards & opinions on the video games he'd review was fucking ostracizing bc nobody else he worked with had these passions or nuance with their critiques and I was like girl. me too lmfao

Hey, same anon again. The latest Elden Ring update added ray tracing and I just learned that it's apparently causing crashes for some people just from being turned on (and the update turns it on to maximum by default)
I don't know if verifying your files fixed your game, but be sure to go into the graphics menu and turn ray tracing off (it's just in the normal graphics menu, not the advanced graphics options). It's super low-effort and runs like junk anyway, so you're not missing much by disabling it, lol
HELOO YEE I SAWW KDJGNS it was the first thing i checked n tbh i insta turned it off cuz????????????????? until now the game is fixed w the verification but ye i see no reason for the ray tracing to be on tbh, vry unnecesary and changes are almost unnoticeable lmao
