Fire Regent Ursa

follow up to this piece

Fire Regent Ursa takes the throne, remodels the palace (using a lot of the gold on the walls to make reforms in a post-war economy), including the throne room so that it looks nothing like Azulon’s throne, and trains Katara and Zuko (who found her, who she loves a lot, and who are both acting as ambassadors) on how to make it in politics. Zuko takes the throne as an adult, when he’s ready, thus avoiding a nervous breakdown.

ozai is mysteriously dead after the end of the war, before they find her, but the investigators don’t try too hard on that one

I kind of find it interesting that some fans think that Zuko owes Azula anything. Even if Azula did in some part care about Zuko between throwing lightning at him or twisting the knife on Zuko's trauma, that doesn't mean Zuko himself owes her forgiveness. Azula mocked, bullied and hurt Zuko on his shortcomings nearly all his life, she goaded him into embarrassing himself in front of the Fire Lord, she mocked him over the possibility of his father killing him or locking him up, she insulted him, she smirked as he was scarred, she manipulated him constantly. Just because Azula had a raw deal in the end too and there were a couple moments here or there where she seemed half-way decent to him doesn't change that, it doesn't erase it.

Kya is the steambaby who usually appears in these Fire Noodle comics, but she is much too well behaved to sneak out of her crib during naptime and pull Druk into a quest for sweets. So instead, surprise appearance of Zuko and Katara's third and youngest child, Akira "Kira"!

Maiko Week 2024.

Day 1: Wedding.

In "Zuko Alone," I noticed that Ursa never calls Azula affectionately, unlike Zuko, whom she calls "darling". At the same time, Ozai calls Azula "my dear," but never calls Zuko that. I think this is interesting and shows which parent is closer to which child. What do you think about that?

Indeed, I've always thought it to be DELIBERATE that we see Ursa using affectionate language with Zuko and Ozai with Azula, but not the other way around.

Ozai calls Azula "my dear", but whenever he addresses Zuko, he almost always calls him "prince Zuko". Ursa also takes a more official tone when addressing Azula, calling her "young lady".

We have no evidence of Ursa calling Azula endearingly on screen, but at the same time, I honestly don't think that she never did that with Azula.

What I personally think happened is that Ursa used to use affectionate language with Azula, when she was younger, just like Ozai used to do with Zuko, but with time, they both stopped, when Ozai started to see the sides of Zuko he didn't like and Ursa started to see the sides of Azula she didn't like.

I think this subtle characterization element in Zuko Alone shows which parent understands which child better. With Ozai, it's obvious that he started to resent Zuko, and with Ursa, I don't think she hated Azula, but she didn't understand her and started to instinctively keep distance from her, paying more attention to Zuko, which unfortunately, contributed to a horrible result for Azula in the end.
