Fiordland National Park is the largest of the 13 national parks in New Zealand at an astounding area of 12608062121 square meters. It is located at the southwest corner of the South Island of New Zealand and is a significant part of the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage Site. A lot of people from over the world visit the Fiordland National Park annually. Kayaking and boat tours are the most famous activities of the park. Mirror lakes, the Homer Pass and the Chasm are popular stopping points. A few parts of the 2017 movie Alien: Covenant were shot in the park.

Backpacking the Kepler Track!

Incredible highs - The alpine section was amazing with the constant views of fjords. Amazing to see how we ascended from sea level to alpine and back down again in less than 2 days.

Surprising lows - The sandflies were horrendous! We couldn't enjoy relaxing at the beautiful campsites or making dinner, so we skipped some of our nice meals and instead had more of our quick snacks. We had to spend over an hour killing the ones that followed us into our tent each night. If I were to do this again, I would do it further into the fall, only book the huts, or try to trail run the whole thing in a continuous run.
