A touchy situation with an HP laptop, hopefully resolved
It's good when a company responds quickly and helpfully to a problem with its product by fixing it for free. It's not as good when two products in a row have you experiencing the company's support machinery.
One part of my laptop is now newer than the rest of it, which should mean I don’t have to spend quite as much time with two other parts of the computer. But should I feel that good about having to send a second computer from the same vendor back to the shop? I spent a long time pretending that I wouldn’t need this level of tech support for the HP Spectre x360 I bought last August to replace a…

trying to reconcile the timelines between utrh, lost days, and annual 25 is apparently an exercise in utter futility.
(all of these ages listed going forward are what he would be if he was alive the whole time/how much time has elapsed since his birth.)
jason died on april 27 with a birthday in august so he would have been ~15 & 8 months at the time. i don't have a source for this but apparently he was 18/19 during the events of utrh.
(apparently bruce celebrates his 18th birthday in detective comics #790, after hush, which places him at 17 during hush and fucks everything up but i'm just gonna. not think about that.)
according to the annual he would have already been 19 by the time he was pushed in the pit the first time (6 months dead, 1 year in a convalescent home, 1 year on the street, 1 year catatonic under talia's care). that leaves literally zero time for lost days to happen. if you presume the 'one year later' timeskips are rounding up there still isn't a lot of wiggle room.
lost days operates on a much looser and unspecified timeline of "months later... and later... and later still" before talia first hears abut catatonic jason. however, we are still told that "years" have passed between talia finding out that jason died and talia pushing him in the pit.
assuming multiple years just means two, at minimum jason's already 17-almost-18. which leaves him around 2 years to put a bomb under the batmobile, train, murder his teachers, etc. before his debut in hush if we're assuming he's 19 during all that. and even then he'd already be pushing 20.
the movie's much nicer about this because he gets revived literally right after dying and then has 5 whole years to scrounge together his grand plan. it doesn't seem like he has talia's support there but it makes sense that with robin training he could have figured out training and resources on his own. maybe.
in conclusion. timelines are fucked and who knows what's going on.
+ this is a tangential thought but it's a little crazy to me that the police figured out he was buried alive and didn't think to check the graveyard 12 miles away. like ok 10 mile radius but when there's an actual cemetery a couple miles outside that maybe??? you check it out??
#jason todd#under the red hood#red hood lost days#if i were jason i'd just be mad that bruce didn't fucking notice#i crawled out of my grave??? your sensors couldn't sense that mad scramble for air are you incompetent#time spent in a hospital as a john doe crying your name. fingerprints entered in a database. the batcomputer doesn't flag that at all?#and then a year on the street. the streets that batman & his shiny new robin patrols#news about him being robin travels far enough to reach the league of fucking assassins but not batman#and then said league of fucking assassins kills everyone aware jason's alive#that's people who work at the cemetery that's the couple that crashed into him that's the police who worked his case that's hospital staff#people who saw him on the street and workers at the care facility he was left at and in lost days they even torture joker's old lackeys#a bunch of people connected to this catatonic kid are murdered or just straight up disappear#and bruce is just like. not aware of any of that.

oughhhh need to buy a new phone in the next year or so because mine is fucked. why does every smartphone suddenly fucking suck! we had removable batteries and headphone jacks and SD card expansion slots when I was in middle school and now it's like...what's taking up that space in the same-sized phone all of a sudden? "we had to take out the headphone jack to make the phone 2mm slimmer" apple and google kill yourselves challenge. i want a fucking brick that has 2TB of space and a decent camera. and TWO headphone jacks. and a stylus because why not
#new pixel? yeah ok if i want the stupid fingerprint sensor on the screen that nobody asked for#xperia? has headphone jack and storage but costs an arm and a leg and has 2 years of updates#samsung is a possibility but their ui fucking sucks to use and is ugly#iphone? lmao#i've been dealing with a busted screen because it slipped out of my shorts as i was pulling them up after shitting in a public bathroom#and it fell corner-first onto the ground and cracked#it's a hard world out there for people who still manually transfer MP3s to their phone

smartphone options these days are absolutely fucking absurd.
i truly don’t care about much of the specs and newest shiny camera options or whatever, i just want to upgrade from my ~5 year old phone to get something
with decent storage (or at least the capacity to add a micro SD card)
compatible with the phone plan i want
not some cheaper/knock off brand that it will be near-impossible to find good case/accessories for
isn’t the size of a small fucking tablet and is comfortable to fit in my hand/pockets
has a FUCKING audio jack instead of requiring a godforsaken adapter piece hogging the charging port
#apparently the next model series up from my current phone is the last samsung style to still have an audio jack?#which would still leave me with a 4 year old phone and like. that's fine i guess if i NEEDED a new phone#but there's not much sense in upgrading if it's just to the next series#also the storage and RAM on the galaxy s10 isn't THAT great#but literally anything after that is obnoxiously large. doesn't have the storage i want. or has done away with the audio jack altogether#and like. the fingerprint sensor on my phone is so fucked anymore and it's started having a lot of small glitches#and i just wanted to upgrade since i want to switch phone plans anyway#except my only options require me to make SOME kind of sacrifice on features i want :/#fuck the smartphone industry and give me back my goddamn audio jack#it's not like i don't have bluetooth headphones i just hate being forced into that choice#misc

Innovations in Fingerprint Sensors Market : Enhancing Security Across Industries
The fingerprint sensor market is projected to grow from USD 4.2 billion in 2024 and is expected to reach USD 5.9 billion by 2029, growing at a CAGR of 7.0% from 2024 to 2029.
Implementing biometric technology-based time and attendance registering systems has simplified tracking employees' time and attendance. Fingerprint technology-based systems are user-friendly and easy to install, aiding management in tracking and analyzing employee data. One of their main advantages is preventing employees from logging in for one another, a common issue with older methods like time clocks, sign-in sheets, and ID card swiping.

I just saw someone on the bus dictate a message to his phone but bc I sat behind him I couldn't see him actually speaking and thought for a sec that he was transmitting his thoughts telepathically to his phone
#new sci-fi idea unlocked (probably already exists)#if not telepathically it could also be through the fingerprint sensor that somehow connects to thoughts#can you tell i don't really read/write much sci-fi even though i think it's very cool
