30 - "Are you with me?"
31 - "It's not your fault." (Based on the setting created through Prompt 14 and its reblogs)

Fictober-Prompt # 4 Nightmare
Cassandra x Aiden Trevelyan
Aiden lingered on the edge of the Fade, still fearful to let sleep claim him and pull him towards the dark memories, when Cassandra’s whimper had him snapping back, wide awake. On high alert, his gaze darted around the dimly lit room in search of a threat. All he saw was Merthin on the Seeker’s side of the bed nudging her arm with his snout.
   Nightmare.
Recognizing the sound of distress, Aiden pushed himself up. “Cassandra.” He placed a soothing hand on her shoulder. “Cass, wake up.”
The female warrior jerked away from his touch. “Don’t,” She whimpered, helpless and frightened. “Please, don’t.”
This time, he gave her a shake and spoke in a firm tone in hopes to penetrate the shroud of darkness gripping her mind. “Cassandra, wake up. Seeker!”
Cassandra came up swinging, catching the underside of his jaw and sending him back against the headboard. “Stay away from me!” She hissed, dark eyes still clouded with sleep. “You will not touch me.”
Aiden’s heart ached at the sound of sheer terror in his lover’s voice and instantly knew that she was recalling her experience with Ormo. Scrambling out of the bed, he fumbled to pull on a pair of linen trousers that had been discarded on the floor the night before. Being on this side of a night terror was new territory for him. “He’s not here.” HE struggled with the urge to take her in his arms. That would only serve to frighten her more. “You’re safe.”
Whining, Merthin jumped onto the bed, carefully bumping his nose into the crook of her neck. The contact was enough to pull her fully from the Fade.
Aiden watched the Seeker jerk back from the hound, take a survey of the room, deemed it safe, before wrapping her arms around Merthin and burying her face in his fur. Moving slow, Aiden knelt next to her side of the bed, careful not to touch her. “Cassandra.” Her shoulders shook as if she was fighting tears and Aiden’s veins filled with furry. He wished he could go back in time to drain the life out of the smithy himself. To make him suffer for what he had put the Seeker through. Now, Aiden felt completely helpless. “What can I do for you?”
“Light.” Her voice hitched and quivered from the aftermath of her night terror. “Too dark.”
Aiden quickly brought the lantern on the nightstand to life before moving across the room to stroke the dying fire in the hearth. “Daylight is only an hour away,” He assured throwing in a fresh long until the flames were reborn, filling the bedchamber with a glow to chase the shadows away.
“It’s okay. I’m okay.” Cassandra rested her brow against Merthin’s snout. “I’m okay. I’m okay.”
Hearing the edge of hysteria bleeding into her tone, Aiden moved back to her side. “Yes, you are.” He signaled for Merthin to move, and the hound curled at the foot of the bed. Pulling the blanket tightly around her shoulders, Aiden gathered her close. “You’re safe, Cassandra. He will never touch you again.”
Cassandra concentrated on the sound of her lover’s voice and the warmth of his arms until the shaking stopped. Here, she knew that she was safe. Knew that Aiden would protect her at all costs. “I’m sorry,” She whispered burrowing further into him. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t you dare apologize.” He rested his cheek against her crown. “Never to me.”
  “I’m stronger than this.”
“You are,” Aiden agreed. “But even the strongest can’t outrun the darkness.”
“I don’t want him to have this hold on me. He’s dead. It’s done.” Cassandra closed her eyes, trapping the tears that burned and threatened to fall. “He can’t hurt me.”
Stroking his fingers along the length of her jaw, Aiden tilted her face upward. “Never again.”
  “You came for me.”
Guilt hit him hard. “Not fast enough.”
“You came for me,” She stated against, leaning into his calloused palm. “I knew the moment I woke up surrounded by darkness, that you’d come for me.”
It continued to amaze him how much belief she had in him, even after seeing him at his worst. “Every time,” He promised with a soft kiss to the brow. “Tell me how to help you, Cassandra.”
“Hold me until the sun comes up.”
  “Gladly.”

Fic: Sea Glass Pt 3
A/N ‘Sea Glass’ was meant as a one shot. Then I wrote a chapter two. Now a chapter three. I actually have a storyline in mind so expect more updates.
I’ve fallen behind with my writing. Working ‘False Flags’ took up my weekend along with grad school. I’ll be hammering out this week’s prompt for @txf-prompt-box tomorrow. Anyways, enjoy. Tagging @fictober and @today-in-fic
One. | Two.
Disclaimer: Don’t own anything.
Scully could not sleep. Physically, she was exhausted. She was yawning so much that it was causing her eyes to tear up. But her mind, no, her mind had different plans. It would not turn off. She rolled uneasily in bed, taking a majority of the blankets with her unintentionally. Mulder grunted in his sleep and she felt his hand on the small of her back, gently guiding her back to face him. She sighed and rolled back over onto his side, rearranging the blankets as she did. He smoothed his hand up her spine as rested his arm lightly around her.
"Everything okay," he mumbled sleepily.
"Yeah," she whispered, yawning again. Tears in her eyes again.
His arm and hand ran up the length of her back and back down, and he settled into the soothing motion. She closed her eyes to focus on his touch and listen to his heartbeat. She finally was able to sleep.
. . . .
Cape Hatteras was supposed to be a diversion, a distraction. The month leading up to their arrival, it had been some of the worst fighting that Mulder and Scully had experienced together. But they had healed, at least he was sure of it. They watched tv together, cooked together, slept together. Essentially, he felt like they were a normal couple since being on the run. But she still seemed distant somehow.
It was shortly after New Year's day and he wanted to do something. She was curled up on the couch with a blanket and a book. "What do you think about going down to Frisco pier today?" he asked from the kitchen.
"And do what?"
He shrugged as he sipped his coffee. "We could explore a bit. Check out the lighthouse."
She took a long sigh and looked up at him. "That'd be nice," she said softly.
"We can leave around 10?"  She nodded. "Do you want breakfast, Scully?"
"Are you offering to cook?"
"Well, I have a limited menu to pick from but you know I make a mean omelet."
"Make it your famous western omelet?"
"You got it."
Scully got up from the couch and placed a soft kiss on his cheek and padded to their bedroom. "I'm gonna take a shower," she spoke softly.
He watched her retreating back, her shoulders hunched like she was carrying an albatross. There was just an air of constant sadness that followed her. Ever since they had reconciled, he felt his other half again, he could read her, but he did not realize the heaviness she carried in her heart. And of course, she would not go into detail. It would be like pulling teeth. Maybe he could get her to open up more today at the lighthouse. He had already knocked down one wall (they were talking again). All he had was work on it a little more.
. . . .
The weather was a bit warmer today as there was a light sea breeze. Mulder wore dark shades and Scully had opted to pull her hair back in a loose ponytail. "I doubt the National Park Service will arrest us," he whispered in her ear.
She felt the familiar hand on the small of her back snake around her waist and pulled her close. "Not unless you had something else in mind," she whispered, kissing his neck.
"I don't see any sleeping bags."
"Tough luck then."
They walked together through the parking lot, noting the lack of cars. She huddled against his side uncharacteristically to shield off the cold. "I wish we could climb the lighthouse."
"Well, we have the house until May. Maybe we can when it gets a bit warmer."
"I would love that."
"Didn't they literally move the lighthouse in 1999?"
"I remember hearing something about."
They follow the wooded path through pass the information booths to a giant field. To the left was the red base of the iconic black and white lighthouse and to the right, two white little homes. Mulder paused an information plaque. "So those are where the lighthouse keeper and his helper would stay with their families. I like it."
"What? The house or the lighthouse?"
"Those little houses," he nodded. "We could have a place like that one day."
"One day," she mumbled under her breath.
"I don't want to run forever, Scully," he said in a low voice. "I am sorry for causing this."
"Don't worry about it," she said softly. "Let's go explore. I bought a disposable camera so we can at least make some memories."
"I knew there was a reason you were smarter than me," he whispered in her ear. "Let me see if I can get a park ranger to get to take our picture."
"We almost seem normal."
"Why don't we be today? We're Fox and Dana, long time partners on vacation," he asked softly. "We can be ourselves, just us. Not Mulder and Scully, just Fox and Dana. Do you remember when we first started it all? When we went that last step. I told you that I felt like I was the real me when I was with you. Well, I want to forget everything else and just be your Fox for a while."
She smiled endearingly and gently lifted the sunglasses from his face. "No sunglasses during the pictures," she said with a small smile.
"Deal."
And for a few hours, they acted like they were Fox and Dana, a normal couple without a care in the world. They got the park ranger to take their picture in front of the lighthouse. She snapped some shots of the lighthouse and Mulder smiling at her easily. He took a couple of her, a few of them kissing. They held hands as they wandered through the museum. They went to the gift shop to browse and he wanted to buy her something. She laughed, dismissing him. So he bought her a snow globe instead. They lingered at the park until 1:00 and wandered down the paths to the beach.
He was able to wrap his arms around her waist from behind, his tall stature nearly swallowing her. She hugged him tighter against her. "Mulder, thank you for bringing us here."
"We're healing, right?"
She nodded shortly. "Yeah."
They stood there, holding onto each other. He rested his chin on the top of her head as they watched the waves. "Hm. What are you thinking?" he whispered after a moment.
"A lot of things," she answered vaguely.
"Wanna tell me?"
"Mmm. I will, just not now."
"Does it have to do with why you're not sleeping?"
She slouched a bit but was held up by Mulder's arms around her waist. "A bit."
"We can talk about it when your ready but just don't shut me out anymore," he whispered, kissing her hair.
"I won't," she vowed.

Fictorber Day 3 - "I've waited for this."
Skeleteen turns twenty. He's not a teenager. This means people will stop calling him 'SkeleTEEN'. And they will. He's gonna make sure.

2019 Recap
Tagged by @natsora Thank you!!
Tagging YOU! Yes, you reading this. (It’s also Monday and I have barely any mental capacity left so, this may be super silly or it may be just number. Who knows. I seriously just need more coffee.)
favorite fic you wrote this year: Oh gosh, this is like asking to pick my favorite  child. Ruuuuude. Uuh… if I absolutely had to pick, it would be my Mass Effect Shaynor Long Fic wip, Cracks in the Foundation. I love everything that I write, but this one always challenges me in fun and exciting ways and I just love Shepard and Samantha so freaking much. I like the direction the story is going and the direction it keeps veering off into from my outline and I think it is better for it.
least favorite fic you wrote this year: Probably the fictober prompt that I did for Liara/Samantha, “It’s not always like this.” Don’t get me wrong, I like what I wrote but Liara/Samantha isn’t a pairing that I partake of, so if I had to pick a least favorite, it would be that one for that reason.
favorite line/scene you wrote this year: Can I just say an entire fictober prompt? Cause I love the hell out of the “Can you Stay” Korrasami prompt that I did where Asami was a bikini barista and Korra was the milk delivery person.
total number of words you wrote this year: Only counting my fanfiction work, just over 120K.
most popular fic this year: Without contest, it’s Strangers in the Night. On AO3 it is currently sitting at 699 kudos and has 87 bookmarks.
least popular fic this year: Not counting my “Fictober prompts,” it would be my Dragon Age Inquisition Trevelyan/Krem story Love Lost in Translation story with only 28 Kudos and 6 bookmarks. But I love this story and will keep writing it (as soon as my work life balance readjusts itself).
longest completed fic you wrote this year: Haha! Strangers in the Night by default, because it’s the only one I’ve technically finished.
shortest completed fic you wrote this year: Uh, Josephine/F!Adaar “I might just kiss you” from my Dragon Age Inquisition fictober prompts came in at 1097 words, which is the shortest thing I have up, I think.
longest wip of the year: Forever and always, Cracks in the Foundation (Shaynor, current published word count is 218,164 words)
shortest wip of the year: Love Lost in Translation (Trevelyan/Krem, current published word count of 12,150)
favorite character to write about this year: I really enjoy writing from Samantha Traynor’s prospective because I have to do research for british dialogue to make her sound genuine. When I first started Cracks in the Foundation, she was my least favorite perspective to write in because I never thought I got her right. But after getting a lot of comments of praise for how I write her, she’s always one I’m happy to write in. And I’m really enjoying exploring her traumatic past, which the game sets up and utterly fails to deliver anything on. Heh. I suppose the whole reason I started Cracks was because I wanted to fix how the third game was and finishing her barely touched story makes me happy.
a fic you didn’t expect to write:  Can you Stay Korrasami fictober prompt was one that I had planned to do something entirely different for but then changed my mind at the last second because an idea struck me as I past a bikini barista stand on my way to work. It was completely unexpected but a ton of fun to put to paper, as they say.
fics you’ll continue next year: All of them, really. Cracks in the Foundation, Love Lost in Translation, and I made Strangers in the Night into a series called “Close to You,” that I have 8 or so sections planned out for.
current number of wips: Fanfiction, 7. My original fiction WIP count is up to 11 now. T-T
any new fics to start next year: Gosh, I think my readers would revolt if I started anything NEW without finishing what I have. I do have four other fanfic ideas that I’d love to start posting (some of them have the first few chapters written while others are thoroughly outlined), but I really want to wrap up Cracks in the Foundation before I take on any other long fic projects.
most memorable comment/review: I had quite a few from Strangers in the Night that had me clutching my chest and making me feel super touched and validated as a writer. Most of them were on how I handled the scenario of the story and how important a role consent played into everything.
I do remember one from @ieatlazers that was talking about they appreciate how I always include consent in some fashion in my work, but I can’t remember which story it was for. It was super sweet and all I remember was feeling like this:
Tumblr media
events you participated in this year: Fictorber was really it… I tried NaNoWriMo but landed a new job a few days into the month and all my writing plans went out the goddamn window. (I got a promotion into a newly created position and I’m pretty much making my little department from the ground up by myself. So I’m working some loooooooong hours and by the time I get home I’m wiped. But it should calm down in April. I hope.)
fics you wanted to write but didn’t: Fanfics… I worked on all the ones I really wanted to last year. Now, I can’t say the same for my original work, but none of you follow me for that (not a statement on you, I just don’t have my original work posted anywhere for public consumption or comment, so you’d never be able to see it), but I came up with a new original wip that I really want to write because I keep reading my outline for it and being like “goddamn, I want to read this book” and immediately deflating and thinking “I have to write this book.”
favorite fic you read this year: I feel so bad, I’ve bookmarked quite a few stories this year, but I was focusing most of my reading time on books for a queer review site that I run called The Queerblr. I read about 30 books but I honestly don’t think I read any fanfiction last year… >.<
a fic you read this year you would recommend everyone read: Per the last answer, I’ll recommend a wlw book instead? Sunsets and Shades, by Erica Lee was a delight, and so was Grimmer Intentions, by Jodi Hutchins (the first book, The Grim Assistant, was a bit rough for me, but the second book was amazing).
number of favorites/bookmarks you made this year: 32, apparently.
favorite fanfic author of the year: I mean, I didn’t read any this year, so that means I don’t have to choose between the wonderful author beans, right? I’ll go with that. You’re all amazing. Really. And you know what, if you’re reading this and you post fanfiction, drop me a message/comment with your AO3 tag and the story you want me to read and I’ll put it on my queue to read and comment on. Do it.
