What other fandoms do you think you’d write for? Or are you strictly an HP writer?
PS. Love ATWMD and THTF. Your writing is impeccable.
i’ve written a captive prince & succession fic as well so! & have also briefly written fics in some other fandoms when i was much younger which r now too embarrassing 2 name lmao
honestly not sure what other fandoms i’d write for it honestly just comes down 2 whether i’m gripped w an idea for certain characters…would love 2 escape hp fandom lol but i think part of why it’s sucked me in so bad is that i like fucking around w the holes in the canon universe…like most of the marauders fic i’ve written has been either canon compliant or canon divergent & me going “hmmm what would these characters do in this context” & now bc i’ve spent so much time thinking abt & writing them it’s just also becoming easy 2 plug these characters into aus 🤧
actually thinking abt my fic writing experience generally the thing that tends 2 make me wanna write fic is if there’s something abt canon that i wanna patch in…like my captive prince fic is just canon but from a different character’s pov & my succession fic is just “what if kenstewy were canon” lol. have thought abt writing aftg from andrew’s pov & the first book of the feverwake duology from dara’s pov simply bc that’s something i enjoyed doing w atyd & captive prince but never actually did…guess i could also see myself potentially writing spn fic if i came up w an idea i liked…& honestly i think if i ever reread trc i might go crazy for real & could then potentially decide 2 write fic who knows. but atp i feel like marauders fic has just become my comfort zone…it’s just a weird balance to strike where a story has to have characters i love but be unsatisfying (poorly written/queerbait/not actually queerbait but i’m delusional/would be fun 2 see from another character’s pov) enough that there r gaps i wanna fill. so like there r various stories/franchises/series i’ve loved where i’ve just never felt compelled at all 2 read or write fic bc i got everything i wanted out of the story etc!

@fastasyoucan1999 ty 4 the tag!! <3
book that pleasantly surprised you: do androids dream of electric sheep? by philip k. dick! read this like a month ago + had only read one other philip k. dick book + didn't really enjoy it so i was surprised by how much i liked this one <3
book that disappointed you: quite a few recently which is...unfortunate. just been reading a lot of books that i end up not really liking :( most recent was the girl in red by christina henry which i read last week after having it on my tbr for so long that i forgot why i even added it and it was simply. not good! writing ranged from mediocre to bad + the actual plot was not particularly interesting or well-executed so :/ second most recent was bad feminist by roxane gay which just. did not have good politics lol
your current read: living a feminist life by sara ahmed but it's slow going bc i am...not really enjoying it </3 giving her a chance bc i've only just finished the first 3 chs but...honestly had higher expectations...
top 2 books on your tbr: my tbr is sprawling + disorganized i don't really have any particular order in mind for it but! i do want 2 read young mungo bc i've seen all my tumblr mutuals raving abt it + i've also been meaning 2 read on earth we're briefly gorgeous for a really long time!
an author you’re loving: having been reading some engels + marx this year + loving them lol & have also read a couple books by leslie feinberg + bell hooks + have really enjoyed those as well!!
rec a book to the person who tagged you: ummm my go-to rec right now is. the archive of alternate endings by lindsey drager simply bc it is my favorite thing i've read this year <3 but also!! since u enjoyed the captive prince series...the feverwake duology by victoria lee has kind of a similar vibe although v different setting etc....one of my faves <3

Nine People Tag
I was tagged by @writinglittlebeasts, thank you! <3
Answer these questions and tag nine people. I'm tagging @canadjester, @wipsbymor, @cybr-sweet, @new-royston-cursebreakers, @evergreen-lyricist, @raineaxolotl, @macabremoons, @mjparkerwriting and @daughter-of-inklings. As always, no pressure! c:
Three Ships: I'm back in the Sherliam (William and Sherlock from Moriarty the Patriot) brainrot phase, am still not over Griddlehark (Harrow and Gideon from the Locked Tomb series) and still think about the Feverwake duology (Noam and Dara have my heart).
Currently listening: to the sound of rain
Last movie: May have rewatched Nimona a few hours ago, oops
Currently reading: I'm still unsure. If you've book recs (lgbt+ characters and political intrigue are very much wanted right now) feel free to send me some. I'm thinking about starting Winters Orbit but I'm not sure yet. c:
Currently watching: Dopesick
Currently consuming: Ice cubes. So many ice cubes
Currently craving: A good book 👀

so wrt book recs
I think you've already put the 2nd book of the series on your tbr but City of Stairs, Robert Jackson Bennett - had some Choices that I'm not sure what to think of but it had some really interesting worldbuilding + is also just a fun read
She Has Her Mother's Laugh, Carl Zimmer - not sure if this is the type of nonfiction you'd like but I remember reading it a while back and thinking it's an interesting read so maybe check it out?
Jade City, Fonda Lee - slow… underhanded politicking ig one could call it, Pale Lights type characters who strongly hold different paradigms of morality from ours, twisted family relationships etc. is fairly long + can be quite slow though
and wrt 'Stuff that's - not even originally written in something besides English, but just written outside the shadow and cultural weight of the Greater American Publishing Industry' specifically, Salt Fish Girl by Larissa Lai immediately comes to mind but I don't. remember enough of it to tell whether it's really Out There in a good way or not.
also in the category of "nothing to rush to read but if you're in the mood for something shorter/lighter*, I think you might like these more than the marketing/blurb/etc would make you think", I've mentioned The Darkness Outside Us already, but I'll tentatively recommend Feverwake + the prequel novella if you end up liking the first book (I find it reframes some of the books' more awkward parts in an interesting way + helps smooths over the awkward parts)
*as in easier to read not. necessarily in subject material
....oh jeez this ended up being super long lol and I was thinking 'I don't have many books to rec this'll be short'. but yea 👍
Jade City is, going by page count/being a coherent trilogy you'd presumably want to read all of a bit long me for at the moment, but the rest are all absolutely on the list.
(City of Stairs is on the list basically entirely on the strength of American Elsewhere, which I read a couple years back and absolutely adored. Now I'm actually curious about what sort of Choices you mean)

Not sure what you’ve read, and what you qualify as new, so most of these recs are from 2021-2022 when I read a lot more queer fiction on the regular but here are some recs that were new two or three years ago / are in a series that is still in progress now because I can’t help myself and I feel your pain:
I’ve been really enjoying The Dark Rise series by CS Pacat. Books 1 and 2 are out, 3 is in the works, and I’m not sure if it’s meant to be longer. High fantasy, definitely a bit dark, with a whole host of queer characters. Definitely not romance, but there are subplots with it. Super, super plot driven (but then again, so is everything they write. Older, but if you haven’t read Captive Prince and you want a lot of complicated plot, I’d give that a read as well.) Does some really, really excellent work with playing with and manipulating fantasy tropes in unexpected ways.
The Feverwake (book 1 Fever King) was also a bit dark, sci-fi, with queer characters, but is also quite plot driven with romantic-ish subplots. Set in a futuristic (not technically America, there were wars) where a plague kills most people and grants the survivors supernatural abilities. A lot of political machinations.
Six of Crows and co. has probably been beat to death, but I love them dearly. (Personally I think they’re better than the Grisha trilogy by a long shot.)
Gideon the Ninth, as well — I really enjoyed it, queer characters but mostly plot (romantic subplot) futuristic sci-fi fantasy, although I can’t speak to the rest of the series because I haven’t read it lol. Though I think it’s still be published?????
Lesser well known, and published more than a few years ago I think, but the small change series by Roan Parrish. Really about the characters working through a lot of emotional conflict (I really love the second one: Invitation to the Blues about a depressed concert pianist trying to restart/recover his life. Really struck a cord with me as a creative.)
In books where romance (and smut) and plot tend to move in more equal turns but they’re a little more niche, maybe? :
Read the Magpie Lord series by KJ Charles a few years back and really loved it. Historical fantasy with political and magical machinations.
More of a fluffy read in terms of writing construction, but if you want plot, boy does it deliver: Soulbound series by Hailey Turner and San Amaro Investigations by Kai Butler. Urban fantasy, both incredibly complex plots. I’ll throw in the Wolf at the Door series by Charlie Adhara (also a werewolf fbi kinda thing.)
Anyways, yes: these recommendations get older the further down the list you go (my apologies.) I hope you haven’t read a few of them, and maybe they are a vibe (and that I’m remembering them well enough lol)
Ahhhhh!!!! Thank you so much!!!!!
I’ve read the Dark Rise books, Six of Crows, and all the Gideon the Ninth books but everything else is new and a lot looks so so so good!!! All up my alley!!!!
Again thank you so much for responding to my incoherent questions with this!!!

I genuinely think you would enjoy A Lesson In Vengeance by Victoria Lee. I would also really love for someone to talk about her Feverwake Series. Fever King is a masterclass in trauma (she has a PhD in psychology).
NEXT QUESTION: LOTS OF PEOPLE WANT BOOK REVIEWS SO SUGGEST BOOKS FOR ME TO REVIEW

Oh book recs! For YA, six times we almost kissed by Tess sharpe (ya romance), the darkness outside us by Eliot Schrefer (ya sci fi), and good girls guide to murder series by holly Jackson (ya mystery). Adult romance id say anything Emily Henry, Ashley winstead (she also does thrillers) or Rachel Lynn soloman (ya and adult romance). If you want royalty you could try the royally series by Emma chase (stand-alone romance) or for ya dystopian maybe the feverwake duology by Victoria Lee.
Anon you are amazing thank you! Gonna go look up all of these rn!
