𝐑𝐨𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐞’ 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 (𝐫𝐮𝐞𝐬 𝐣𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐟𝐢𝐜 4)
𝐋𝐞𝐰𝐢𝐬 𝐇𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐱 𝐅𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫
𝐬𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬: lewis doesn’t know what to think when he comes home to see roscoe dressed as santa…but he knows just who’s behind it
𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬: none, very fluffy!!
𝐚/𝐧: welcome to fic number 4!! this little drabble event has been so fun so far, I FUCKING LOVE CHRISTMAS!!
🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
“Roscoe stay…don’t move baby..”
You smiled fixing the little santa hat on his head gently as the bulldog grumbled at your antics, which only made you laugh more.
“I know, I know but just a bit longer…”
Taking your phone in your hand you begun to take a few photos, the lights on the Christmas tree behind you only adding more of that holiday feeling to every picture.
“What is going on here?”
At the sound of your husbands voice you turned, Lewis leaning against the doorframe to the living room, watching you with curious eyes, the smallest smile tugging at his lips
“Tell him Roscoe, say mumma dressed me up to take pictures for a holiday card!”
The dog only made a growl like noise back as he shook the hat off, eliciting a laugh from the British driver as he pushed off the door frame.
“Hmm torturing him then my love?”
Feigning fake hurt you pouted, turning towards Lewis
“Now that’s just mean baby…he likes it!”
“He does?”
You nodded, Lewis smiling softly at the cute little look on your face before cradling your head in his hands, leaning down to press a kiss to your lips sweetly
“I think he looks cute, even if you’re torturing him” he stated, thumbs rubbing at the apples of your cheeks
“I’m not torturing him…he’s our child, i’m allowed to force him into cute christmas hats and clothes!”
“For now…”
A twinge of warmth spread through your face at the comment Lewis had made, a secret only the two of you knew so far, in a few months time you’d be welcoming another addition to your family. Something the two of you had been waiting for, for as long as you both could remember.
“Yeah..for now baby..which means it’s elf hat time Roscoe!”
Lewis broke out into a laugh watching as the bulldog took off towards the kitchen, you following after him as the elf hat jingled in your hands. These memories as your last Christmas just the two of you would be so special to him, knowing next time you’d have a little bundle of joy to join in on the festivities.
Maybe this would mean Roscoe could finally stop wearing all the funny holiday hats…well just maybe.

Day 17 - Winter/Christmas at the Firehouse
Day 17 of the 30 Day Ghostbusters Challenge!
Author's Note: I realize neither of these two prompts are technically 'at the firehouse' but that's the life of a Ghostbuster for ya. Always on the run.
"You sure it's in there?"
The PKE meter gave a high whine, bathing Kylie's face in an electric green light. She raised her eyes to meet Eduardo's. "Oh, it's there."
The four Ghostbusters spread out and carefully surrounded their target, throwers pulled and ready. In the center of their half-circle stood a festive green tree, trimmed with silver strands and layers of multicolored baubles.
A deep voice cleared his throat behind them. "Uh, is this safe?" A tall, broad-shouldered man with a red-gold beard stood at the entrance to the living room, looking at the scene with tight-lipped worry. The rest of the room's decor matched the tree, delicate silver garlands and small, colored glass decorations draped tastefully on every surface. A cheerful fire crackled in the fireplace.
"Sir, it would be better if you waited outside the home with the rest of your family," Roland told him. His face was deadly serious, despite the red-and-white Santa hat he was wearing. (Janine insisted that the clients always loved it.)
The man hesitated, but suddenly the tree shook and a frenzied growling came from within the branches. An angry red glow lit up deep within the tree, much brighter than any of the small white Christmas lights on the tree. As this was what had instigated a late-night call on Christmas Eve to the Ghostbusters to begin with, the man backed out of the room without further comment. After that, the sound of running feet and the front door opening and closing could be heard.
"Okay!" Garrett announced, as soon as the man was gone. He charged up his thrower, thrilled as always by the excited hum of the equipment. He too was wearing a Santa hat. (Kylie and Eduardo had flat out refused.) He aimed at the tree. "Let's just shoot this thing and get gone, I've got better things to do on Christmas Eve than deal with demonic evergreens!"
Kylie snapped at him, "Don't! Christmas trees are notoriously underwatered. If we torch it, this whole place could go up."
Suddenly a shriek like shattering glass split the air. The tree shook harder, sending ornaments flying and smashing on the hardwood floor. And something exploded from the boughs.
It was furry, glowing red, and the size of a bulldog. It landed on Eduardo's face.
The lanky teen was thrown to the ground with a startled scream as his teammates watched in shock. The creature didn't stick around. It launched itself from Eduardo to the fireplace mantle, where it raced along the top, knocking down everything that had been displayed there and dropping Christmas stockings alarmingly close to the blaze underneath. It leaped over a proton stream fired by Garrett, grabbed the chandelier hanging from the center of the ceiling, then swung itself right over the tree to the other side of the room, where a large bay window showed the snowy nighttime scene outside. It hit the window at such a velocity that the entire pane of glass shattered. The white flakes of snow swirled in the wind as a cold breeze blew into the room, and the shrieking beast was swallowed up by the night in an instant.
"What the heck was that!?" Eduardo yelped, sitting up and patting his face as if to ensure that it was still in one piece. "Cujo's little brother?"
"Christmas toy that needs a factory reset?" Garrett shrugged.
"Pagan deity angry about the commercialization of Christmas?" Roland guessed.
Kylie peered at her PKE meter, analyzing the readings. "Possessed squirrel," she reported. She sighed and eyed the broken window. "It's gonna be a long night."

Grinch Deputies
On Christmas Eve afternoon, 2017, a pair of sheriff deputies marched up to my front door. Not suspecting agitated behavior; I happily opened my door to greet my visitors. I was asked to identify Christmas cards I gave my neighbors. Cards I delivered while singing holiday songs. The holiday postcard cherished the Christmas season in five different languages on one side. The other side displayed a group picture of my African-American family.
Upon them approaching my front steps I sensed that something was amiss. Their suspicious attitudes made me forgo inviting them inside my home for some warm eggnog. This was further confirmed when they decided not to introduce themselves, but felt that their uniforms should make me succumb to their hypocritical questions.  The white officer wanted to know what the postcard met to accomplish. Surprised at such an obvious answer, I pointed out that the phase Seasons Greetings in large print should explain itself. What malicious message did he think was on the Christmas card? What ulterior motive did this black man have for spreading goodness and cheer while wearing a bright red Santa hat? His bogus question was searching for a malevolent ulterior motive. As an officer of the law, they could not handle the true meaning of Christmas in my minds eye.
Then the Hispanic deputy tried to translate by asking me if black members of the family portrait lived in this address and if the home address on the card was where the black family lived. My concern is who would envision a warped society where someone would use an address where they did not live with pictures that were not their family and paste them on a Christmas card and personally deliver them to each home with a Christmas song. Your deputies have quite the imagination or they watch too much TV. Where was their civility and diversity training? Did they miss that day or are the classes completely inadequate for the 21st centenary Jim Crow? Did the alleged victim call the sheriff for the Mormons dressed in morticians clothing and knocking on neighborhood doors? Or was it because Mormons were singing blacks are Devils and I was singing Deck the Halls?
Tumblr media
Who makes it impossible for a black man to spread the cheer of the holidays?
King County Sheriff Deputies that is who. Am black to remain invisible in a society that wants to exterminate us?
I was perplexed by this question. I should not have to be subject to such ridiculous interrogation about harmless Christmas cards. My attempt to communicate positive messages about hope and faith to the people in my community was vilified by Grinch deputies. What they stereotyped as my nefarious intentions was clearly based on my race and gender. This would explain hiding their vehicle from my homes view in anticipation of an unruly Christmas card giver. My neighbor had called to say they were on my right flank and suspiciously approaching my home. Was this in preparation for a surprise attack on an unsuspecting black Santa Claus. Their racist attitude was cemented as I watched the white cop anxiously holding his gun holster while forever looking at me with a stern gaze. What type of physical or gunplay violence was he expecting from a peaceful celebratory who wanted to share his love of Christmas while singing White Christmas throughout the neighborhood?
Their combined suspensions of a black man incapable of doing a good deed was demeaning, insulting and immoral for sheriff deputies. For it suddenly dawned on me that some white Nazi saw a black man in the neighborhood and called King County Sheriff. And instead of the receptionist and the officer of the day interpreting his complaint as racist dogma, the authorities automatically decide that a black man anywhere is guilty of anything imaginable.
I have hand delivered over 750 cards to neighbors in the neighborhoods I walk through, around, over and under. In addition to passing out Christmas Cards, I* attended Holiday Sing-alongs’, went to Christmas Festivals and played Santa Claus to terminally ill veterans at the Veterans Hospital. Is this not the season to be jolly? Then why did your officers make this a season of nightmares? Many of my neighbors praised my mission and shared my love of life. Friendships are earned. This human nature is accomplished at community meetings, veteran clubs, and social events.  I am a old black man walking a 16 lb. Bichon Frise in some places where my handsome face and charming personality are not known. At no time did the other 749 people feel threatened by my greeting cards. (Why did one redneck initiate such a dramatic response from the same people who should protect me from deliberate racism? Did the deputies have an ulterior motive for harassing me at my home in front of family, friends and neighbors? I hand delivered these cards to give neighbors an ideal of how compassionate and cooperative neighbors can be. Happily sharing the same holidays, jobs, schools, stores and roads is being part of sharing neighborhood traditions. Instead, your officers’ Jim Crow interpretation of my innocent actions translates to irrefutable harm to the subtle and fragile advances in police/community relations. Is this what the black community can expect from a new sheriffs informal policies? Did the officers investigate the caller and charge them with a malicious and felonious statement? Or did the officers express horror and share the caller’s racist brown shirt sentiment about black men walking in white neighborhoods? Are your officers practicing apartheid? Are any members of my family under scrutiny just for being black?
Please take note, the house that I own resides in the same neighborhood as your Nazi caller. But if he/she needs help painting his house or fixing his car, I’ll still do what I can as a neighbor. The card included my address and phone number with the thought that neighbors can stop by anytime for a cup of tea. How could such ingenuousness be suspect of ill doings? As a veteran and a homeowner, is it not my responsibility to be a citizen activist? A Christmas card should activate peaceful tranquility, not paranoid criminology.
I maintain honor in the face of adversity, but this event was particularly alarming when I learned that the King County deputies were originally from New York and Detroit. According to them, black people do not spread holiday cheer in these cities. While I and my family lived in Portland, Sherwood, Gig Harbor, Woodinville and Seattle area for over 43 years, I have always maintained my small town charm by sincerely saying Merry Christmas to everyone I meet. However, the professional background of these Scrooge deputies makes them routinely suspicious of black men whether we are undertaking good or bad mannerisms.  A black mans behavior that is seemed unusual by this white and brown deputies segregated standards is grounds for investigation.
To be investigated on Christmas Eve for handing out Christmas cards to my neighbors is the most ridiculous example of blatant racism that the world may be witness too.  My wife, son and neighbors watched the unnecessary interaction between the deputies and myself. It was an act to purposefully drive fear into any black man in the neighborhood. From the safety of our living room, they noticed a third deputy slowly driving up and down our street. Why does a traditional Christmas card warrant so much manpower?
If I had known that delivering Christmas cards with family portraits was going to provoke calls for a SWAT Team, I would have delivered Veterans Day cards to draw attention to the 30 percent of veterans that are homeless for this authoritative German SS response. I would have willingly offered them a cup of tea and a Christmas cookie. But I could see that my interrogation was unnecessary and unprovoked and unfiltered. Another red flag was raised when they admitted their former places of residence. They admitted that they were not used to kind and friendly black men. My human reaction and seasonal spirit wanted to invite them into my home to share our laughter and family, but my defense mechanism said they would then scrutinize me even more. It is unlike me to hesitate to invite strangers into my home. I’m sorry they made me feel protective of my home and suspect of their storm trooper momentum.
Still, these representatives of a civil society took the photo/holiday card of my family in hopes that one of us might turn up on their criminal database. How transparent can surveillance be when it threatens innocent families on Christmas Eve? Will you research back 7 generations to find my ancestors did not have a work permit when they came to this country? Is this not a violation of our rights to not be subject to unwarranted search and seizure? They did not return the photo/card to the Nazi. I told them to ask the brown shirt to call or stop by for a cup of tea. I will never forgive them for not apologizing for traumatizing my Christmas Eve because they believed black male criminal stereotypes from New York and Detroit had relocated. What kind of recruits are you recruiting?
Thank you so much for your time and attention to this matter. Without a sustained bulldog commitment to enforce policies that help black Americans achieve equality at work, education, healthcare, and employment, our elected officials, business leaders and philanthropists and liberal snowflakes are closet Nazis endorsing the holocaust of African-Americans.
 With paramount respect,
 Tom Gardner
