He looks a lot like his dad Houndnose and hates it

I'm planning on him eventually befriending Hurricanepaw and Wavepaw

I haven't figured out his warrior name. Ik Ratstar wants to name him Barksplash after Ducksplash, but knows his parents would throw a fit over it. I've mostly been trying to think of not too obvious water names for him. Barkpuddle, Barkscale (like fish), Barkdive (similar to splash)

He loves spending time with Pollenpaw's mom Daisydance. He wishes she was his mom

sometimes at night he gets worried about bugs, and it gives him a phantom itchy feeling all over. Pollenpaw usually grooms him then to help him sleep

While he likes winter for lack of bugs, he always misses being able to swim and fish

Minnows are his favorite kind of fish

He's a surprisingly good fighter. He likes to get creative with it

Even though Pollenpaw picks ticks for him, he enjoys spending time in the elders den. He often takes naps in there

He/him (but fine w any)

He's gay, a mad scientist, has a grave robbing husband, brought someone back to life, pays his assistants fairly, makes body modification potions, gave himself heterochromia, chill with murder but would give you free top surgery, is just a silly goofy guy

Ferretcry:

he/him, shadowclan.

Ferretcry, after learning cats fade from starclan once their forgotten, has become obsessed with the idea of memory, and making some kind of a name for himself. There's talk of code changes going on, and he wants to be a part of it so others will remember him. He wants to be leader, despite not having qualifications, cause Leaders are way more known than warriors. One other problem with that though, is he has a crush on the current deputy, Hickorywing. He still doesn't know how to handle his feelings of desperation to be leader and his jealousy with his romantic feelings for Hickorywing

While Ferretcry does care about his friends, and basically agrees with the code changes, a lot of it can be superficial. So much of what he does is an act on his part. Despite his superficial shows, he's still not sure how he even wants to be perceived beyond a vague notion of being "good""

i've been really excited to post these Ferretcry's code characters! meet Sootspots and Pheasantscratch!

i've talked a bit about Sootspots before, but i'm just gonna go ahead and go over his whole deal again.

he's a very tired hard working skyclan meddie. he'd like to be a kittypet in all honesty, but as the clan's only medcat, he wouldn't want to put then in that position. while he cares very deeply about his clanmates, he feels very isolated from them and is super lonely.

Pheasantscratch is loud, outgoing, and very clumsy. she loves to fight, and has a tendency to get into accidents, which often leaves her in the medcat den. skyclan is a very quiet, respectful, and rulebound clan in ferretcry's code. while the let her do her thing by and large, most cats tend to look down on Pheasant, and see her as immature and childish. like Sootspots, she also feels isolated from the clan do to that.

while she's a bit younger than him, and they're completely different in personality, her and Sootspots have formed a close friendship. Pheasant spends so much time either hanging out with, or helping Soot in the medcat den, that he jokingly calls her his assistant.

they can often be seen dozing together in camp, or out collecting herbs. despite his clanmates takes, Sootspots really respects Pheasant, and while he wishes she wouldn't get hurt all the times, he thinks of her as a clever and dependable cat. Pheasant thins Soot can be a bit dull at times, but also sees him as very caring, with a big heart.

they're the duo of all time honestly. do not separate them <33

time for more Barkpaw lore! his parents, Lizardclaw and Houndnose, are minor antagonists (maybe more prominent later idk). they love Barkpaw very much, but with cats like Pikestar. they hate how lenient Ratstar is with the code, and they especially dislike Ducksplash for being from a different clan.

meanwhile, since Barkpaw hates bugs, he's taken an interest in fishing. he feels so much more focused in the water, and loves the taste of fish. Ducksplash has started giving him secret fishing lessons. Barkpaw's mentor, Thicketstep, thinks it's done a lot of good for him and encourages it. (she's probably dozing just out of frame lol)

Ducksplash and Thicketstep have antagonist parents too, so they rly empathize with Barkpaw. for his part, Barkpaw sees Thicketstep like a cool older sister and Ducksplash like a mentor figure. if Riverclan wasn't so shitty atm, he'd be seriously considering joining it. he doesn't know what to think about his parents. especially with their distaste towards Ducksplash. it's a whole complicated thing lol

anyway, this would probably be early on with Ducksplash teaching him. Barkpaw's still absolutely fascinated at the idea of fishing and is v excited.

went ahead and designed Pikestar's daughter, Wavepaw! I'll probably mess w her colors more later, but she's fine for now. her mom is Riverclan's deputy, Otterdusk. i need to design Otter, but she's a chocolate point cat w purple eyes. her and Pikestar are a bitchy power couple lol.

anyway, i love Wavepaw. she's named after Pikestar's dad, and former Riverclan leader, Wavestar. she's a kit when the story starts out, but she becomes an apprentice fairly early on. i might have her become mates w Hurricanepaw eventually idk.

Pike and Otter really want Wave to become leader or medcat. they're always making her hang around Creekshine (rc medcat and Wave's aunt) and lecturing her on leadership and the code. for her part, Wave starts out really determined and hard working, listening to her parents, but eventually she kind of burns out and becomes more rebellious. i think i'm gonna make her mentor Goosetail (Ducksplash's brother and the guy who kills Batflight) for extra drama. poor kid lol

but ye, have a little doodle i did while working out her design (w bonus scribbly Otterdusk test and Pikestar)

decided to do a ref for Lightningheart cause i love her. she's a bit ditzy and forgetful, but she really cares about her clanmates. i honestly wanted to make her brother Rainbowdawn the deputy, but that just felt like nepotism lol. she also has another sibling called Stormwish, but i don't have many thoughts on em atm.

Lightningheart rly likes kits, and probably would've been a perma queen if she wasn't a medcat. she calls everyone "Honeycomb" which most usually find endearing. i kinda picture her with a southern accent ngl.

i'm honestly proud of how her design turned out. she was rly tricky. esp with her being a torbie, but i think it looks p good!

Possumstar needed a bit of a revamp since i last drew them, so i went ahead and did a ref for her. she's bulkier and a bit more intimidating now. i also included a bonus doodle of them w their mate Lichenthroat.

this isn't Lichen's final design, but it was nice to draw him anyway. he's thunderclan's perma nursery tom! Possum doesn't want kits, and though Lichen would love to have some w her, he's content looking after the kits of his clanmates.

these two are often busy with their respective jobs, especially since sometimes Lichenthroat sleeps in the nursery, so they're always very lovey when they get to spend time together. Possum's tough persona always melt's when they're around him. she can be such a sap sometimes, even if she won't admit it.

Ik my oc story is literally called Ferretcry's code, but i feel like Ferretcry himself is just kind of a weak character. I've been struggling to think of what i wanna do w him. Like Ferretcry's code itself isn't much of a story either, but still. All his friends, except maybe Hickorywing, feel like they have more interesting things going on. Lately I've been thinking of a personality for a wc character, and trying to think of a cat i could give it to, when i realized Ferretcry would be perfect for it!

Basically, he knows that as they're forgotten, starclan cats fade. He's pretty terrified of that idea. Not knowing what comes after that scares him, so he wants to do something big and memorable so cats don't forget him. While he is rebellious, and agrees with the cause, he really wants to make big changes to the code because he knows he would be remembered for it. He also wants to be leader, despite not really having the skills for it, since it would give him more time to do something great and also cause leaders are more well known.

I've changed him and Hickorywing's dynamics so they're not mates yet. Ferretcry has a crush on Hickory, which makes things awkward as Hickory is the current deputy. It's not like Ferretcry wants him, or Ratstar for that matter dead, but he wants the leadership position so bad.

But ye, I'm making him more of a desperate guy who can be selfish in the process. Maybe a bit self congratulating at times too. I think it works well for his character

what oc have you had the longest:

my first ever oc was a wolf called Muffin Top. his main personality traits were liking cupcakes, being scared of chickens, being kind of dumb, and being nice. his tongue also always lolled out. the mark on his butt was a face i doodled once, and decided to give to him as a marking

i also redesigned him in 2020. not that happy w that design now, but figured i'd show the difference anyway. the wolf w the blue and green hair is his gf Bubble Pop, who i also redesigned at the time

a lot of my background wc ocs (some of them i haven't even mentioned on her) have their own bits of lore. lets speedrun some:

Robintrill and Cardinalflight of thunderclan are divorced. they're also the parents of Roseshine and Mushrrom speckle.

Heathpaw of windclan saved a tooth from the first rabbit he caught, and intends to pierce his ear with it when he becomes a warrior.

Coldbreeze of windclan and Humidbreeze of riverclan are gonna have a forbidden relationship. yes i paired them based on their names lol

Pinestrike of shadowclan and her adopted son Olivekit are brough over from an old oc story of mine. in it, Olivekit was a dog that a cat w the prefix Pine adopted. his full name was Olivegrowl. Thicketstep and Ratstar are also from that story. Olivekit is now just a cat since i didn't feel like adding a dog plot.

Sootspots of Skyclan really wants a mate. he's gonna try and ask out Cricketleap at some point, but it's more out of loneliness than anything.

Bumblefoot and Petalfall of windclan are siblings and they're both very clumsy. they're named after that, and not too happy about it. Bumblefoot is short and stocky, which makes chasing rabbits hard. he'd be a good tunneler if that was still a role. he spends most of his time in camp helping out Bugwhisker. Petalfall on the other hand is super lanky and all legs. she has a tendency to trip over them. her and Bumble are very close.

Pikestar of Riverclan's dad, Wavestar, was named after his fur which curls like waves. he's actually yellow like Pikestar and Creekshine.

Bravelight of thunderclan is named after a cat my neighbor had.

Claywhistle of riverclan is actually pretty nice. he's friends with Herbwhisker.

Herbwhisker of riverclan is related to Pikestar. probably a cousin or something.

Grousefleck and Snipebeak of windclan are siblings

Pinestrike is Hickorywing and Hollowoak's mom. this makes Hickorywing one of Bogshne and Burclaw's uncles.

Owlbristle's of windclan's mate is Wheatstalk. he likes to nap while her and her friend Twilightstarling talk. he is also interested in what they have to say though, and likes to listen as well. Wheatstalk is actually the son of the current deputy, Henfeather. she used to be a perma queen. her brother is Roostercall, who's Heathpaw's mentor.

woo redoing old ocs and making them into ferretcry's code ocs!

these guys were originally from a rp. they weren't wc ocs, just rando cats in the woods. their backstory (or ig Whirlwind's) is all edgy and angsty since i made them years ago.

basically these two were mates. Riptide was goofy and lighthearted, and Whirlwind was more reserved and anxious. Riptide ends up drowning while Whirlwind was pregnant. Whirlwind later has 3 kids, Drizzle, Storm, and Hurricane. Drizzle gets sick and dies as a kit. this leads Whirlwind to be ultra protective of her remaining kids and not let them do anything.

Hurricane and Drizzle end up sneaking out at night to play. Hurricane eventually pushes Storm off a cliff near their den on accident. Whirlwind hears this, and comes out to find Storm dead with Hurricane standing on the cliff above. completely out of it with grief, Whirlwind blames her for Storm's death and chases her off.

dramatic, ik lol. i think i'll keep their story fairly similar. now they're in riverclan. Whirlwind and Riptide can keep their names since i think they can work as wc ones. the kits are keep their names as their prefixes. instead of falling off a cliff, stormkit can acidentally drown like her dad. instead of chasing her off, Whirlwind can become distant from Hurricanekit, and maybe still blame her.

Hurricanekit would eventually get Herbwhisker as a mentor, and as one of the few chill cats in riverclan, he can rly help her out.

i'm super proud of Whirlwind's new design! i've always pictured her as a bengal cat i think i actually nailed the vibe this time! i'll probably do her kids soon if i get around to it lol

i also have bonus art of Storm's death. tw for blood just in case, but the art's super old so it's not that bad hjkjh.

Trying to plan out future/current shadowclan kits for Ferretcry's code. It's kind of a pain cause a lot of the couples/potential couples are cats i don't want to have kits or have another litter. Might give Bogshine + Burclaw (Juniperbee's older kits) half-clan mates to help w that.

Also for anyone curious:

Pine refers to Pinstrike. She's an older perma queen. Her and kind of Olivekit are from an old oc story. Olivekit was thrown out to drown in the lake and Pinestrike found/adopted him. They're v close <3

Furze refers to Furzeheart. She's Ferretcry's littermate, and is considering also becoming a perma queen. She didn't want a relationship w anyone, so she asked Cobwebstripe (a bg shadowclan cat) to surrogate for her. They both agreed Cobweb doesn't have to help raise em at all or anything.

And then Juniper is Juniperbee, but I've talked about her before. The only thing is i thought it would be funny if her second litter also had a b themed naming scheme

decided to do a lineup of my Ferretcry's code leaders! we got Ratstar of Shadowclan, Buzzardstar of Windclan, Pikestar of Riverclan, Racoonstar of Skyclan, and Possumstar of Thunderclan!

more Ferretcry's code stuff! I've posted Bug's ref before, and I've mentioned Buzzardstar once or twice, but i don't think I've mentioned that Buzzardstar has a huge crush on Bug before.

he's absolutely enamored with Bugwhisker. he could listen to him talk all day. Buzzard loves to chat with Bug while he works on pelts. i haven't decided if the crush will be reciprocated yet, but i think Buzzard's pining is pretty adorable. Bug is honestly exactly the type of cat Buzzardstar would've made deputy. creative, curious, and willing to question things. but he already had a deputy at the time, and Bug's never had an official apprentice. not to say Buzzardstar thinks poorly of his current deputy (Henfeather), just that in different circumstances, Bug definitely would've been his first choice.

this is also the first time i've drawn Buzzardstar! i'm actually proud of how his design turned out! he's based on a bearded vulture, since i think they look sick as fuck. funky lil bird man

Batflight's design has been bugging me, so i decided to redo it again. i think it turned out p good! i also thought it'd be fun to show off a progression of his design! Cricketleap and Batflight have been around since 2018! they're story is still largely the same, just added into Ferretcry's code.

i don't think i've talked about their plot yet? Batflight ends up dying in a border scuffle. (recently i've decided he was killed by Ducksplash's brother Goosetail)

Cricketleap is of course distraught by this. he gets an idea though. he decides to become a medcat, and hopes that'll allow him to see his mate again. and it does! after that they sort of function as a long distance couple. they see each other every half moon, and Batflight visits Cricketleap's dreams whenever possible.

i also like to think, at some point they'll need his help to keep starclan from covering the moon at gatherings. i'll probably try and think of other neat things i could have him do as a starclan cat.

i think i'm a lot closer to showing the air of dignity i always imagine him to have. i've been working on his family lately (they have vague designs n stuff in my head, but i haven't drawn em yet), and they're all very refined cats.

for those curious, his still living family is his dad Wolfwhisker, his sister Juniperbee, and her kids Burpaw and Bogpaw

for a while now i've been trying to think of herbs Scorchedmeadow could give Pollenpaw to help with her stuffy nose, and i think peppermint might work! like maybe Scorch gives Pollen some mint leaves to sniff whenever it gets bad.

so far i'm thinking peppermint for her stuffy nose, feverfew for her headaches, honey for scratchy throat, and poppy seeds also for the pain and to help her sleep on really bad days.

the stuffy nose thing has def been bothering me, cause i feel like they never really mention any herbs for allergies in the books? i dunno, maybe i'll just look up herbs for allergies in general. there's probably some other stuff Pollenpaw could take as well.

redid my Ducksplash design since it was really bothering me. wayyy happier with the new one! i also threw in her and Frogbelly bein cute as a bonus. i also wanna do more stuff with Barkpaw, so lets see if i get around to that.
