I need a Xiao Zhan stay at home dad AU fic so bad right now.
Like imagine a few years down the line xz just quietly slips away from the entertainment industry and he and yibo hire a surrogate (who they pay handsomely and are very nice to!!!) and they start trying to have a baby🥺
Like imagine them going through the surrogacy process and trying to make sure potential surrogates aren’t bxgs or solos 😭
Imagine them taking their baby home to Chongqing and Xiao Zhan’s mama is just crying tears of joy and Jianguo has her tail up and very daintily sniffs the baby🥺
And Xiao Zhan is a stay at home dad, still doing his artsy stuff on the side but taking a long break from the entertainment industry while Wang Yibo is still one of the top stars in China and ugh. They’re such a power couple.
They no longer give a single shit about what the public thinks and just start living as an out couple and family and Yibo is so cute with him and the baby. Teaching his kid to bike and skateboard from way too early an age and rubbing it in to Xiao Zhan about how his kid can ride a bike but he still can’t 😭
And oh god they’re so cheesy they would totally have matching outfits for the whole family. Baby vlone shirt. Supreme diapers.... yibo gets a super aerodynamic state of the art stroller and gets it signed by Rossi.
Imagine xz pinching yibo’s chubby cheeks and then then their baby’s chubby cheeks and saying ‘I see no difference here’ and yibo swatting his hand away.
Once their kid gets into school Xiao Zhan starts planning his comeback and writes a play. It ends up as a small production written, acted a designed by him. There are some deeply embedded wwx and lwj refernces in the script and set design. On opening night some of the most artsy people in theater and film are there and Yibo’s in the front row crying tears of joy next to their bored kid who’s playing with a techdeck. It’s a critical and financial success. A lottery system has to be set up to try to avoid a waiting list.
Yibo LOVES being the embarrassing dad. Im thinking World’s Greatest Dad t shirt (but cool). He loves letting everyone and especially his kid know how loved and supported he is. Hearing ‘dadddd you’re embarrassing me’ is the sweetest sound he’s ever heard.
Omg they finally go on that skii trip together but they take the whole family and kiddo’s grandparents are just spoiling him rotten the whole time. Yibo approves and Xiao Zhan tries to be the harsh parent but he’s too much of a softie and just lets kiddo get spoiled rotten, at least on their family vacation.
Xiao Zhan and his mom teaching their kiddo the family recipes 🥺
Yibo back seat driving in the kitchen telling them to make it spicier. Xiao Zhan asking him what he’s trying to prove here.
They’re both perfect sons in law and their mothers in law adore them.
Inspired by
Interviews I can’t find at the moment:
the one where Xiao Zhan talks about being a traditional man and wanting a family (I think that’s in one of his Ma Weiwei interviews *shakes fist at mww*)
the one where Xiao Zhan is asked where he sees himself in 12 years and he says he sees himself living as a normal person with one dog and one cat
DDU episode where Yibo says that in the future he sees himself having more free time and having a kid and a dog. Han ge reminds Yibo that he’s in his 40’s now and he has even less free time. Feng ge replies saying something like wow a woman a kid and a dog huh? And Da laoshi reminds him that Yibo didn’t mention a woman.
If I can find links for those I’ll add them later
And this article about wealthy Chinese gay men seeking children through overseas surrogacy

Affection
Day 4
@marinettemarch
“Isn’t she beautiful, mother?” cooed Sabine at the little buddle in her arms.
Xi-Feng smiled as the energetic baby reached out to grab her. Just months ago, her beloved daughter gave birth to her first child and was so excited to bring her over. Little Marinette, while just a newborn, held the most caring, affectionate blue eyes Xi-Feng had ever seen. Every servant, guard, and official couldn’t help but gaze at the tiny girl who seemed to do nothing but smile.
Even Sabine stated that her daughter came into the world laughing.
“She’ll be loved by all who see her,” replied Xi-Feng holding her granddaughter in her arms.
Marinette’s tiny arms wrapped around her grandmother’s neck, hugging her tightly as she could. Both women smiled at the gestured as they walked through the hall. Throughout the day, Marinette was smiling, waving and calling out to every person or animal that passed them by.
Uncle Jianguo held his niece, rocking her back and forth, while Mei couldn’t stop cooing and fusing and gushing over baby Marinette. She even went as far as ordering a dozen new dresses in various shades of pinks and red just to dress up the little babe. Marinette had her entire family under her spell as she hugged them and press kisses onto their faces.
Several servants stopped to play with the new baby, jigging bracelets and trinkets for her to giggle and laugh at. Pretty soon neither mother nor grandmother could go several feet without someone holding them up to look at the new addition to the Cheng family.
They eventually stopped by her cousins’ palace where the two boys were playing prince and princess with their new cousin. They placed her on their bed – the ‘castle’ – wrapped in colorful clothes with a makeshift crown on her head as the boys battled with toy swords. However, they had to stop every other minute to give into Marinette’s cries for a hug or to be held.
“I’m worried,” remarked Sabine.
“Of what?” questioned Xi-Feng.
“That you’re right,” smiled Sabine. “That everyone will love her and Tom and I will be fighting off suitors back home.”
“That’s why we have bodyguards and a moat around the city,” chuckled Xi-Feng. “You could always stay here with her. Keep those big bad potential lovers from reaching her.”
“Trust me, mother,” smiled Sabine as her daughter tried to hug both her cousins at once. “No moat will keep out the people who truly love her.”
Short, I know, but I wanted to catch up with the month list since I have work and got called for jury duty so…yeah.
Marinette was a very affectionate baby; no one can change my mind on that!

“A Bienal é o conhecimento do novo e o revisionismo necessário. O olhar novo e o novo olhar.

Shown Chinese artists include Feng Mengbo, Guo Ruiwen, Hong Qile and Wang Zhipeng, among others who are of a great influence in new media creation at home.
At the heart of the exhibition is a 14-meter-high encircled space at the museum's main hall. It was built to function as "a box of black and white", according to Wu Juehui, who co-curates the exhibition with Yan Yan, the deputy director of Today Art Museum. Wu is an artist himself, based in Hangzhou, in eastern China's Zhejiang province - his work is shown.
Nine videos are displayed in rotation and computer-generated images are projected onto two walls and the ground. People can relax by sitting on the ground or leaning against the walls, being surrounded by the moving images.
By doing so, Wu the curator says, the audience themselves become a part of the art, and together with the videos, they form the largest and the centerpiece work of the exhibition.
The immersive, dream-like experience is similar to other works on show - artists hope to inspire people to reflect on real life situations, for example where people have found it hard to live without technology and the internet, especially devices such as the mobile phone.
Shown artworks feature almost all the digital file formats that have been invented, such as .txt, .jpg, .gif, .mp3, to name a few. Therefore, the exhibition serves just like a zip file to compress all these files into a package and present it to the audience. As they come across each artwork on show, people "unzip" one file after another.
Wu the curator says besides creating eye-catching effects which has drawn a lot of photo taking, they also invite the audience to seriously think about the relationship between human society and technology: "Every person lives with certain formats they are familiar with, and they have reshaped how people think and act and the ways of existence."
"Maybe in the near future, people greet each other by asking, 'What's your format?'"
".zip FUTURE RHAPSODY | XIAOMI · FUTURE OF TODAY" marks a continuous effort of Today Art Museum's endeavor to explore and diversify people's experience at a museum in the future.
The concept of "FUTURE OF TODAY" was coined in 2015 with the launch of a vanguard exhibition discussing the interaction between a real museum and a virtual one and the evolution of art forms in years to come.
The current exhibition is launched by Alex Gao, the director of Today Art Museum, Chinese sculptor Sui Jianguo, Chinese architect Wang Hui and Li Wanqiang, the co-founder of XIAOMI.
The academic advisors are Huang Du the Chinese curator and Philipp Ziegler, the director of the curatorial department of ZKM Media and Art Center. Charles Lindsay, director of US SETI A.I.R. Program, is the international nominator for the exhibition.
Alex Gao describes the "FUTURE OF TODAY" project as "a fearless and exciting attempt".
"When I took the position to direct Today Art Museum in 2013, two questions kept emerging in my mind: 'What will a future art museum look like?' and 'What artworks will suit such a museum?' I haven't found answers yet although my team will not stop seeking solutions. With persistence, we can embark upon an extraordinary journey to build a museum of the future."

Rating: 10/10 Went to watch the movie yesterday as I heard it was a big hit in China. I am not the biggest fan of Chinese movies, but this one really impressed me. I have watched Wolf Warrior which I would consider as a good movie, but II is way much better. It is the first Chinese movie that is built on the context of African country and actually shot in South Africa, bearing the risk of suffering the disturbance on the set. The way the plot unfolds and the courage and patriotism is delivered to its audience makes it more than a simple action movie. Love this movie and will go for it a second time.

Biographies of Tuoba Shijun & Tuoba Yi
[From WS015. Modern historians have speculated if Tuoba Yi was actually Tuoba Gui’s brother.]
Shijun was August Emperor Zhaocheng's [r. 338 – 376] concubine-born oldest son. He was by nature witless, dull-witless, calm, patient and inhumane. In Zhaocheng's last year, Fu Jian dispatched his Duke Xintang, Fu Luo. and others to come and rob the southern frontier. Zhaocheng dispatched Liu Kuren to confront them in battle at Zi High Pass. Zhaocheng at the time was incapable, and was not able to personally direct the multitude armies. He therefore led the various sections to escape the difficulties at Yin Mountain, and crossed north of the desert. The Gaoche robbed and plundered on all directions, he then crossed south of the desert. Fu Luo's army had withdrawn, he therefore returned to Yunzhong.
Earlier, Zhaocheng, since his younger brother Gu had yielded the state, he therefore used half the section to confer on Gu. Gu passed on, his son Jin lost the post and was resentful in his breast, and wished to wait for a crack to make chaos.
At that time, August Emperor Xianming and King Ming of Qin, Han, were both previously demised. Taizu was 6 sui old. Zhaocheng was not well. Although Empress Murong's children, Epo and others, were of age, yet the command of the state was not yet decided. Jin because of that advised Shijun, saying:
The Emperor wants to establish the [children] born to Murong. He fears you will be a catastrophe, and wishes first to kill you. So in recent days and onwards, the various sons are dressed in armour, and at night grasp weapons of war and surround your dwelling, waiting for when to readily command to send out. I sympathizes and are telling [you].
At the time Fu Luo and others were still at Junzi Ferry, and at night there was often alerts and precautions. The various imperial sons clasped weapons by their side and fretted between the dwellings. Shijun looked and observed, and considered Jin's words to be true. He therefore led his subordinates to fully murder the various imperial sons. Zhaocheng likewise violently expired.
That night, the various imperial sons' wives and people ran to tell Fu Luo's army. Jian's general's Li Rou and Zhang Hao led the troops inside to pressure, the section followers left and scattered. Fu Jian heard about it, and summoned Yan Feng to ask about its reasons. He made a descriptive reply. Jian said:
The crimes Under Heaven are singular.
He therefore seized Shijun and Jin, and dismembered them by chariots in Chang'an's western market.
Shijun's grandson Wuqi ranked Inspector of Ding province. He was bestowed the feudal rank of Marquis of Linlü. He passed on. His son Liuzhuang was Marquis of Zhending.
The Clarifying [ming] King of Qin, Han, was August Emperor Zhaocheng's third son. As young he had lofty spirit. At the age of 15 he readily requested to led cavalry to campaign and chastise. The Emperor was impressed with him, and sent him to led 2 000 cavalry. When he reached adulthood, he commanded the troops, his commands and orders were strict and trustworthy. He patrolled around and campaigned and chastised, and often was overcoming and triumphing. 10th Year of Jianguo [347 AD], he passed on. When Taizu was enthroned [386 AD], he was posthumously conferred King of Qin, with the posthumous title Clarifying [ming].
His son Yi was 7 chi, 5 cun [~190 cm] tall, his looks and appearance were very imposing, with pleasing beard and whiskers, and had calculations and schemes. As young he was able to do the sword dance, and ride and shoot beyond other people. Taizu favoured the Helan section, he attended and accompanied in setting out and enter.
At the beginning of Dengguo [386 – 395], he was bestowed the feudal rank of Duke of Jiuyuan. He accompanied to rout the various sections, and had merit in planning battles. When Taizu was about to plot against Murong Chui, he dispatched Yi to display the covenant. Chui asked Yi the purpose behind Taizu not coming himself. Yi said:
[Our] ancestors and onwards have for generations occupied the northern lands, sons and grandsons have succeeded each other, and have not lost their past. Therefore the founder accepted Jin's calendar, his feudal rank called King of Dai. To the east [we] and Yan have been brothers for generations. Yi's receiving the instructions can arguably be said not to be a mistake.
Chui was impressed with his reply, and after that jokingly said:
My power is increasing [within] the Four Seas. Sir's ruler not seeing me himself, how [can you] say it is not a mistake?
Yi said:
Suppose Yan does not cultivate civil virtue, but wishes to use military power to strengthen yourself. So therefore the affairs of the home court's generals and leaders is not known by Yi.
When he returned back, he reported, saying:
When Chui is dead, then we can plot. Now it is just not possible.
Taizu with rising colour asked him about it. Yi said:
Chui's years are already setting, his son Bao is weak and without power and his planning is indecisive. Murong De carries himself with an air of talent, and is not a subject of a weak ruler. To pledge and rise up inside, this can be the plan for it.
Taizu considered it to be so. Later changed his fief to Duke of Pingyuan.
Taizu campaigned against Weichen. Yi set out along a separate road. He captured Weichen's corpse and transmitted the head to the Acting Palace. Taizu was greatly pleased and moved his fief to Duke of Dongping. He was instructed to direct the agricultural garrisons North of the He. From Wuyuan to Guyang outside the frontier, he allotted farming grain and greatly obtained the people's heart.
At Murong Bao's robbing of Wuyuan, Yi administered and occupied Shuofang, and threatened his return journey. When Bing province was pacified, Yi's achievements were many. He moved to Prefect of the Masters of Writing.
He accompanied to besiege Zhongshan. At the defeat of Murong De, Taizu used Pulin's wife, Ms. Zhou to bestow on Yi, and also his pages, servants, wealth and valuables. He soon moved to Commander-in-Chief of All Army Affairs in the Centre and Outside and Imperial Chancellor of the Left. He advanced in fief to King of Wey.
Zhongshan was pacified. Then dispatched Yi to chastise Ye, he pacified it. Taizu wanted to return to Daidu. He set up an Acting Tribunal of Zhongshan, and decreed Yi as Provisional Prefect of the Masters of Writing to thereby headquarter it. Distant and near adhered in their breasts. Soon after summoned Yi as Imperial Chancellor to enter and assist.
He also accompanied on the campaign against the Gaoche. Yi separately accompanied north-west to rout their separate section. He also accompanied to chastise Yao Ping and had merit. He was bestowed tabby silk, cloth, floss silk, cattle, horses, sheep, etc. Yi's physical strength was beyond other people, his bow's strength was maybe 10 shi. The Duke of Chenliu, Qian's spear was greatly claimed as unusual. At the time people talked of the King of Wey's bow, King Huan's lance.
When Shizu was just born [408 AD], Taizu was happy and at night summoned Yi to enter. Taizu said:
When Sir heard the nightly call, [you] then was not astonished or afraid?
Yi said:
Your Subject pushed forward sincerely to thereby serve Your Majesty. Your Majesty clarified and made known, Your Subject immediately calmed himself. Suddenly receiving the nightly decree, astonished with it, fear is truly not nothing.
Taizu reported then the birth of Shizu. Yi rose up and bowed, and then sang and danced. Thereupon they paired up to drink into the early dawn. He summoned the crowd of subjects to enter, and bestowed on Yi driving horses, driving belt, double-thread silk, brocades, etc.
Before this, Hou Ji of Shanggu [or “the Marquis of Shanggu, Ji?], Zhang Gun, Xu Qian of Dai commandery, and others who were famous in their time, and who had studied broadly the new and old, began to come and enter the state. They heard Yi received gentlemen, and first went to Yi. Yi was equally courteous to them, and they conversed together on the activities of their generations. He drew with his fingers the mountains and rivers, distinguished the walled towns, with successes and failures and strategic points. Qian and others sighed in deference, and spoke, saying:
The Duke of Pingyuan has great talents but does not scheme for the generation. We will attach ourselves to his tail.
Taizu considered Yi capable and admirable, and treated him with particular esteem. He several times favoured his mansion, with the rites of people of the same house. Yi bragged about his achievements and was sure of his favour. Thereupon he and the Duke of Yidu, Mu Chong, planned to make chaos. He hid military gentlemen to wait for Taizu, and wished to be rebellious. Chong's son Suiliu was among the hidden soldiers. Taizu summoned him, wanting to have him do something [?]. Siuliu heard the summons and feared setting out, he went over the walls to report the circumstances. Taizu kept it secret and pardoned him.
6th Year of Tianci [509 AD], Heaven's patterns had many alterations. The divination stated:
There will be a traitorous subject, the prostrate corpse sheds blood.
Taizu hated it, and rather killed nobles and ministers, wishing to thereby satisfy and attending to Heaven's calamity. Yi on the inside could not calm himself, and escaped and ran on a single horse. Taizu sent people to pursue and apprehend him. Thereupon he was bestowed death and was buried with the rites of a commoner. Yi had 15 sons.

Annals of Taizu of Later Wei, Part 1
[From WS002. Covers up to and including 391.]
The Grand Founder [taizu], the Guiding and Martial [daowu] August Emperor, taboo Gui, was August Emperor Zhaocheng's principle grandson and August Emperor Xianming's son. His mother was the Xianming August Empress He. Earlier, because of the migrating, she roamed to Yunze and then went to sleep. She dreamt the sun set out inside the house. She woke up and saw light from the window connected to the sky, suddenly she had a feeling. Accordingly in the 34th Year of Jianguo, the 7th Month, the 7th Day [4 August 371], she gave birth to Taizu to the north of Canhe Slope. That night there again was a shining light. Zhaocheng was greatly pleased. The crowd of subjects declared their congratulations, there was great amnesty, and reported it to the ancestral founders.
The guardians, since the Emperor's body several times heavier than a regular boy, furtively [?] unmatched, unusual and strange. Next year [372 AD], there was an elm tree growing at hole where they buried the placenta. Later thereupon there was a complete forest. As a youth was an able speaker, his eyes had a shining spark, he had a broad forehead and large ears. The multitudes were all amazed with him.
When he was 6 sui, Zhaocheng expired [in 376 AD]. Fu Jian dispatched generals for an interior affront, wanting to move the Emperor to Chang'an, but he managed to escape. This is told in the Biography of Yan Feng. When Jian's army had turned back, the state's multitudes scattered and left. The Chief Man of the Southern Section, Zhangsun Song, Yuan Ta, and others, fully commanded the former population to go south and rely on Kuren. The Emperor hence moved to favour the Dugu section.
1st Year [377 AD], buried the Illuminating and Completing [zhaocheng] August Emperor at Jinling [“the Golden Mound”]. They built the Catalpa Palace, persimmon trees fully grew to a complete forest. Though the Emperor was young and immature, his insight was not among the crowd. Kuren often spoke to his sons, saying:
The Emperor has lofty aspirations for Under Heaven, to restore again the vast patrimony. The one to brilliantly display the ancestral founders surely is this master.
7th Year, Winter, 10th Month [11 November – 10 December 383], Fu Jian was defeated South of the Huai. That Month, Murong Wen and others killed Kuren. Kuren's younger brother Juan administered the state's sections.
8th Year [384 AD], Murong Wei's younger brother Chong usurped the establishment. Yao Chang proclaimed himself Great Shanyu and Ten Thousand Years King of Qin. Murong Chui usurped to proclaim [himself King of Yan].
9th Year [385 AD], Kuren's son Xian killed Juan and replaced him, and therefore wanted to plan rebellion. A trader, Wang Bo, heard of it, and stepped on the Emperor's foot in the middle of the multitudes. The Emperor therefore hurried to turn back. A that, the former Chief Man Liang Gaipen's son Liujuan was Xian's master planner, and fully knew about his plans. He secretly sent Mu Chong, a native of the section, to hurry and report. The Emperor therefore secretly joined with the old subjects Zhangsun Jian, Yuan Ta, and others.
Autumn, 8th Month [21 September – 19 October], therefore favoured the Helan section. That day, Xian as a result sent people to seek the Emperor, but did not catch up. This is told in the Biography of Empress Dowager Xianming.
