BREAKING: Supreme Court in a 6-3 Vote Overturns ‘Chevron Doctrine,’ Limiting the Power of the Federal Government
The Supreme Court, with a 6-3 vote, overturned the Chevron deference, a bureaucracy-empowering judicial doctrine that critics say led to the explosive growth of the U.S. government in recent decades.

Rhonda Santis presents themselves as so devoted and committed to every Republican fact-free, deceitful, divisive, right-wing, culture-war-of-the-moment by showboating it for the media as they transform Florida into a fascist, elitist, bigoted, racist Republican's wet dream (until it’s destroyed by Climate Change).
Now Rhonda's kicking it up a notch by showing that same devotion and commitment to the 2024 Corrupt Capitalists' Wish List of Federal Agencies to Destroy - presented to them along with extremely generous "campaign donations" protected by Citizens-United-Supreme-Court-Approved-Corruption-And-Bribery.

An open letter to the President
Use the Real ID act to block FL’s driver's license gender marker ban!
1,038 so far! Help us get to 2,000 signers!
I know that, in a letter released Friday, every member of Florida's Democratic congressional delegation urged your administration to use its powers to block Florida's driver's license gender marker ban for transgender individuals using the federal Real ID act. I support this request 100%. As the letter states: “If [these] revisions are allowed to stand in Florida, and similar provisions are allowed to stand in other states, they will undoubtedly continue to spread, creating more confusion and inconsistency while severely hampering Americans' ability to travel, including LGBTQ+ American's ability to leave states that are hostile to their existence.” This would be unacceptable. The United States federal government should mandate Florida to come into compliance and use every other power at its disposal to prevent discrimination against transgender individuals on driver's licenses. The Biden administration has an important tool to utilize to counteract anti-trans Republican legislatures across the country. Please use it. Thanks.

Having Elon Musk head an Efficiency Commission could benefit the Government.
During his campaign, former President Donald Trump has proposed his share of bad policy ideas, such as a 20 percent tariff across the board. But tasking Elon Musk with heading a commission to make the government more efficient is one worth considering. In a speech to the Economic Club of New York, Trump said this commission will conduct "a complete financial and performance audit of the entire federal government." Efficiency is subjective. Some people believe that empowering the IRS with more powers to collect more taxes is efficient. Some believe that efficiency means putting an end to waste, fraud, and abuse. I have a more extensive definition. Yes, an efficient federal government would be free of fraud and abuse, but it also wouldn't subsidize private sector activities like exports, manufacturing, green energy, or any other sectors, for that matter. Nor would an efficient federal government subsidize state governments for activities that are not federal in nature. Chris Edwards at the Cato Institute reports that in 2019, $721 billion went from Washington, D.C., to the states for activities that states themselves should oversee, like transportation and education. That number exploded during the pandemic. As Edwards shows, such "grants-in-aid" programs produce irresponsible policymaking as they misallocate resources and undermine accountability and democratic control. Oh, and they also produce larger deficits. Trump's definition of efficiency is narrower. He said: "As a first order of business, this commission will develop an action plan to totally eliminate fraud and improper payments within six months. This will save trillions of dollars. Trillions." Trillions? I doubt it. You can't balance the budget on the back of fraud and improper payments alone. But ending this waste is the least that government officials should do. As such, a commission stepping in where our delinquent legislators are asleep on the job is welcomed. According to the Government Accountability Office's (GAO) latest report on the issue, "Federal agencies made an estimated $236 billion in improper payments in FY 2023, and cumulative federal improper payment estimates have totaled about $2.7 trillion since FY 2003." The GAO also reports that five programs are responsible for 79 percent, or $186 billion, of these improper payments. My research on this topic suggests that only 5 percent of the improper payments are underpayments, and most of the overpaid money is never recovered. Medicare, Medicaid, and that darling of the right and the left, the earned income tax credit, are all systematically at the top of the improper-payment culprit list every year. Yet nothing happens except that the improper payments grow. It's another sign that government officials, Republican or Democrat—probably including your own House and Senate representatives, dear readers—have very little respect for our hard-earned dollars. We shouldn't tolerate such abuse. This is only the tip of the iceberg. Hundreds of billions of dollars are for payments that, while neither fraudulent nor improper, fund activities that are redundant, do not achieve what they set out to, or even backfire. Nevertheless, an efficiency commission is not without challenges. Political resistance is the first. Programs that shouldn't exist have strong political backing, either because they serve a particular constituency or because they benefit powerful interest groups. For instance, agricultural subsidies—often and correctly criticized as wasteful—persist due to strong lobbying from farming interests. Political realities make meaningful cuts or reforms difficult. Dominic Pino at National Review reminds us that the Grace Commission under President Ronald Reagan made 2,478 recommendations to save $424 billion over three years (in 1984 dollars). Most of the executive branch recommendations were implemented, but those that required legislative action weren't, likely for the reasons laid out above. Pino writes that "the recommendations that were implemented from the commission have saved the federal government a total of $1.9 trillion between the publication of the report and 2020." The Grace Commission was a raging success compared to former Vice President Al Gore's attempt to cut waste as part of former President Bill Clinton's plan to "reinvent government." As The Wall Street Journal reports, "the Clinton Administration abandoned the effort amid union opposition and Mr. Gore's desire to appeal to his party's left as he sought the presidential nomination in 2000." Cutting government spending is hard work. So is sending people into space. Musk does the latter better than NASA, so he might be up for tackling the former. The only question is whether that's the best use of his time, considering that Congress will continue to be an obstacle to efficiency. COPYRIGHT 2024 CREATORS.COM Source link Read the full article

Steer clear of our internal issues, FG warns foreign powers
ABUJA — The Federal Government yesterday warned foreign countries to steer clear of the nation’s internal affairs. The warning came against the backdrop of foreign flags being flown during the ongoing protest against hardship in the country, especially in some northern states, including Kano, Kaduna and Zamfara, and the arrest of some foreigners as sponsors of the protest. This came as the protest, which had thawed in most states where it was held, continued in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, yesterday, as protesters and some journalists were attacked by thugs who infiltrated the protest. The Nigerian Army has also detained the soldier who fired the shot that killed a 16-year-old boy in Zaria, Kaduna State, on Tuesday evening, saying he was being investigated. Also, the Plateau and Bauchi governments which imposed a curfew in the heat of the protest earlier in the week, have relaxed it, as normalcy returned to the two states yesterday. FG warns foreign countries on interference The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, who gave the warning while briefing members of the Diplomatic Corps in Abuja, however, highlighted the importance of cordial international relationships. Recall that the protest, which gained momentum in major cities, such as Lagos, Benin, Osun, Oyo, Kano, Gombe, Yobe, Borno, Niger, Kebbi, Abuja, and other northern towns, was marked by violence, and that at least six Spaniards were arrested in Kano in connection with the protest. The minister appealed for continued collaboration from the international community to support Nigeria’s efforts in overcoming its current challenges and achieving a better future for all Nigerians. He warned: “While the government continues to work hard through the various reform programmes and measures to address challenges facing Nigeria and Nigerians, it is pertinent to remind us that no nation tolerates foreign interference in its domestic affairs and that of its citizens. Nigeria is not an exception. “The government will take appropriate action against any foreign entity residing in Nigeria that is found to have directly or indirectly supported the protesters by whatever means or seeks to interfere in the internal affairs of the country. “Nigeria cherishes and continues to value the cordial relationships that happily subsist between her and your countries and organisations and will not do anything to undermine or take for granted such relationships. “Indeed, more than any time before now, we solicit your understanding and collaboration in the ongoing efforts of the Federal Government in addressing the economic challenges confronting the country, to achieve a better life for every Nigerians at home and abroad.’’ In his address at the meeting, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, reaffirmed the government’s support for peaceful assembly and freedom of expression, while committing to investigating the violence and bringing those responsible for violence to justice. Idris thanked the diplomatic community for their support and assured that the worst of the unrest is over.He expressed optimism that the government’s policy interventions would soon yield positive results for the nation. “I want to assure your excellencies that the Federal Government has launched an investigation into the violence that we saw in the last week, to identify and bring to justice all those responsible.“ We are committed to preventing the recurrence of such unfortunate incidents in the future. I also want to thank you individually and collectively for your support and understanding during that difficult period. “I want to assure you that the worst is over, and we can now as a nation march forward to enjoy the fruit of all the policy and programme interventions being implemented. I thank you for your kind attention,” he stated. We’re probing 7 Polish nationals arrested over Russian flags in Kano— DSS Meanwhile, the Department of State Services, DSS, yesterday, revealed that it is investigating seven Polish nationals who were arrested in Kano over their alleged involvement in the widespread waving of the Russian flag during the protest. Speaking during a meeting in Abuja on Wednesday with members of the diplomatic corps, the DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya said the Polish nationals were arrested in connection with the waving of Russian flags during the protest. To address youth employment, FG supports the creation of a "Youth House."
President Bola Tinubu has given his approval for the creation of Abuja's "Youth House," a cutting-edge meeting spot designed to meet the demands of young people from all social and cultural backgrounds. This was said on Tuesday in Abuja by Mr. Ayodele Olawande, the Minister of State for the Ministry of Youth Development. "The Green House would be located in all the 774 local government areas' secretariats," stated Olawande. He added “The Youth House, a monument in the Philippines, will serve as a gathering place for young people from diverse backgrounds, providing a platform for social interaction and self-discovery. The president's initiative has been praised by various youth stakeholders and groups for its significant role in the nation's capital. The Youth House will enable many young people to showcase their talents and abilities, fulfilling a long-standing desire for a significant building in the capital.” Nigeria's President Olawande has announced plans to establish a Youth House to help youth develop life skills such as leadership, teamwork, cooperation, and communication. The initiative will involve the Youth House in FCT, the Youth Centre in state capitals, and the Youth Green House in all council areas. The Youth House will be coordinated in partnership with the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) and private sector players to facilitate opportunities for all categories of youths. The initiative aims to bring the government closer to the youth at every level, promote fairness, and enhance the administration's commitment to implementing youth programs and policies inclusively. Olawande commended the president for his ongoing support for the youth, stating that the Renewed Hope Agenda has tangibly benefitted Nigerian youths, with the president prioritizing youth issues.
