MASTERLIST | MY PATREON
You're nestled into Max's side on his couch, wrapped in the soft throw blanket he keeps specifically for these quiet moments together. The afternoon light filters through the floor-to-ceiling windows of his Monaco apartment, casting a glow across the room. Your feet are tucked under you, and you can smell the lingering scent of the coffee you both made earlier.
The Netflix show you'd put on - some random documentary about deep-sea creatures - has become mere background noise. Max's fingers are threading through your hair in that gentle way that always makes you melt, occasionally stopping to massage your scalp. .
"I can't believe the season's actually over," you murmur, tracing lazy patterns on his arm. "Feels weird not having to plan around race weekends anymore."
Max chuckles, the sound rumbling through his chest where your head rests. "Yeah, but now we have to plan around all the end-of-year events instead. Did you see how many galas and ceremonies are coming up?"
"At least those don't involve you flying halfway across the world," you tease, tilting your head to look up at him. His hair is slightly messy, free from its usual styling, and you resist the urge to reach up and run your fingers through it.
"True," he agrees, then glances at his phone on the coffee table. "Speaking of events, I can't believe it's already December. Christmas is going to be here before we know it. Guess time flies when you're busy winning championships."
Your heart skips a beat. This is the opening you've been waiting for. You've been thinking about this for weeks, planning how to bring it up. "Actually… I wanted to ask you something about Christmas," you start, sitting up slightly to face him better.
Max's blue eyes meet yours, curious. "What's on your mind?"
"Well…" you bite your lip, suddenly feeling nervous despite knowing there's no reason to be. "I was wondering if you'd want to spend Christmas with me and my family this year? I know we've kept things private, but I really want them to meet you, and-"
"Wait, really?" Max interrupts, his whole face lighting up with that boyish excitement that made you fall for him in the first place. "You want me to meet your family?"
You can't help but smile at his enthusiasm. "Of course I do. We've been together almost a year now, and they keep asking why I'm always smiling at my phone." You playfully poke his side. "Which is your fault, by the way."
He catches your hand, intertwining your fingers. "My fault? I'm just being my naturally charming self," he grins, then his expression turns slightly more serious. "But are you sure? I mean, won't they be surprised when you show up with, well…"
"With a four-time World Champion?" you finish for him, laughing. "Actually, my dad might pass out. He's been watching F1 since before I was born. He has no idea I've been dating his favorite driver."
Max's eyebrows shoot up. "I'm his favorite driver?"
"Don't let it go to your head," you warn playfully. "But yeah, he's got your merchandise and everything. It's actually kind of embarrassing how much he talks about you during race weekends."
Max throws his head back laughing, and you can't help but join in. "Oh God, this is going to be interesting," he says, wiping at his eyes. "What about the rest of your family?"
"Well, Mom will probably try to feed you until you burst - she's like that with everyone. And my little sister Ruby, she's seven and she's going to have so many questions. She's in that phase where she wants to know everything about everything."
"I can handle questions," Max says confidently, then hesitates. "What kind of questions are we talking about?"
You pretend to think about it. "Oh, you know, probably things like 'How fast have you ever driven?' 'Have you ever crashed?' 'Do you want to marry my sister?'"
Max nearly chokes on air at the last one, his cheeks turning slightly pink. "You're joking, right?"
"About Ruby? Nope, she has absolutely no filter," you laugh, then soften your voice. "But seriously, they're going to love you. Just be yourself - the you I know, not the racing driver everyone else sees."
He pulls you closer, pressing a kiss to your temple. "I'd love to spend Christmas with your family. I can't wait to meet them." He pauses, a mischievous glint in his eye. "Should I wear my race suit when I meet your dad?"
You swat his arm, laughing. "Don't you dare! He'll actually faint." You settle back against his chest, feeling warm and content. "Thank you for saying yes. It means a lot to me."
"Thank you for asking me," he murmurs into your hair. "I love you."
"I love you too," you respond, smiling as his arms tighten around you. The documentary continues playing, forgotten again as you both start planning for Christmas, trading ideas and jokes about how to break the news to your family.
Tumblr media
You're sitting cross-legged on Max's bed while he's in the shower, your phone propped up against a pillow as you FaceTime your family. Your mom's face fills most of the screen, with your dad peering over her shoulder and little Ruby bouncing around trying to get a better view.
"Honey, we can barely see you. The lighting is terrible," your mom critiques, and you adjust your position slightly.
"Better?"
"Much better! Now, what's this important thing you wanted to tell us about Christmas?" Your mom asks, while Ruby shouts "Is it presents?" in the background.
You take a deep breath, trying to contain your smile. "Well, I wanted to let you know that I'm bringing someone with me this year… my boyfriend."
There's an immediate explosion of excitement. Ruby starts jumping up and down, your mom gasps dramatically, and your dad's eyebrows shoot up with interest.
"Finally!" your mom exclaims. "We've been wondering when you'd introduce him. You've been so secretive about this boyfriend of yours."
"What's his name?" Ruby pipes up, her face suddenly taking up half the screen as she pushes closer to the camera. "Is he nice? Does he like Disney movies?"
You laugh, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear. "Yes, Rubes, he's very nice. And his name is…" you pause, knowing what's coming. "Max. Max Verstappen."
There's a moment of silence before your dad bursts out laughing. "Good one, sweetheart. Now, what's his real name?"
"I'm serious, Dad. I'm dating Max Verstappen."
Your mom is trying to hold back her laughter now too. "Honey, isn't that the racing driver you and your father are always watching? The one your dad has all those caps and shirts of?"
"Yes, and I'm actually dating him," you insist, feeling your cheeks heat up.
Ruby's face scrunches up in confusion. "The fast car man? From TV?"
"The very same one, Rubes."
Your dad wipes tears from his eyes. "Come on now, what's next? Are you going to tell us you're best friends with Lewis Hamilton too?"
"Dad!" you groan, running a hand over your face. "I'm being serious! We've been dating for almost a year. I'm literally at his place right now!"
"In Monaco?" your dad asks skeptically. "Prove it."
You swing your phone around to show the familiar view of Monaco through the windows, but your dad just shakes his head. "Could be any apartment in Monaco."
"You're impossible!" you huff. "Fine, don't believe me. You'll see at Christmas."
Ruby presses her face closer to the screen again. "Will he bring his race car?"
"No, Rubes, he can't bring the race car," you say, softening your tone for your little sister. "But I promise you'll love him."
After a few more minutes of your family teasing you about your "imaginary Formula 1 driver boyfriend," you end the call with a mix of frustration and amusement. Just as you flop back onto the bed, you hear the bathroom door open and Max walks out, his hair still damp from the shower.
"How'd it go?" he asks, noticing your expression.
You let out a laugh. "They think I'm making you up. They literally don't believe I'm dating you."
Max raises his eyebrows, looking amused as he sits next to you on the bed. "Really?"
"Really. Dad laughed so hard he nearly cried. And Ruby, my little sister, just wants to know if you're bringing your race car for Christmas."
"Sorry to disappoint Ruby," he grins, then looks thoughtful. "You know, maybe we should've waited to tell them in person. The looks on their faces would've been priceless."
"Oh, don't worry," you sit up, wrapping your arms around his neck. "They'll still be priceless. Dad's going to lose it when he realizes all those times he was rambling about you during races, he was actually talking about his daughter's boyfriend."
Max laughs, pulling you closer. "What else should I know before meeting them?"
"Well, Ruby's seven and obsessed with Frozen. She'll definitely make you watch it and probably sing along too."
"I can handle that," he says confidently.
"And recite all the lines?"
"…Maybe not that."
"And act out the scenes with her?"
Max's eyes widen slightly. "What have I gotten myself into?"
You kiss his cheek. "Too late to back out now, Verstappen. You're stuck with us."
"Wouldn't have it any other way," he murmurs, pulling you in for a proper kiss. "Even if it means playing Olaf the snowman."
"Oh no, you'll definitely be playing Elsa. Ruby's very particular about casting."
The look of horror on his face makes you burst out laughing, and soon he's joining in too. As your laughter dies down, you can't help but think about how perfect this feels - being here with him, planning to spend Christmas with your family, even if they don't believe you yet. You can't wait to see their faces when you show up at their door with Max Verstappen himself.
"Hey," Max says softly, breaking into your thoughts. "What are you smiling about?"
"Just thinking about how Christmas is going to be interesting this year."
"Interesting is one way to put it," he grins. "Should I wear my race suit when we arrive?"
"Don't you dare! Dad will actually faint."
"That's kind of the point," he winks, and you grab a pillow to hit him with, both of you dissolving into laughter again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Let me guess, another text from 'Max Verstappen'?" your dad teases from his spot at the kitchen counter, making air quotes with his fingers. He's wearing one of his many Red Bull Racing shirts, completely oblivious to the irony.
"Actually, yes," you reply, rolling your eyes. "He'll be here soon."
Your mom chuckles while peeling potatoes. "Honey, you can just tell us who your boyfriend really is. We won't judge, even if he's not a Formula 1 champion."
"Mom, I've told you a million times-"
"LOOK!" Ruby crashes into the kitchen, pointing at the TV in the living room where they're showing highlights from the last race. "It's YN's boyfriend!" She dissolves into giggles, clearly in on what she thinks is a funny joke.
"Very funny, Rubes," you mutter, but check your phone again when it buzzes.
Max: "Just turned onto your street. Nice neighborhood 😉"
Your heart starts beating faster. "He's here," you announce, heading toward the front door.
"Oh, we're still doing this?" your dad calls after you, amused. "Should I get my Max Verstappen cap for him to sign?"
"Actually, Dad, yes, you should," you shout back, slipping on your boots.
"Sweetie," your mom starts in that gentle voice she uses when she thinks you're being ridiculous, "you don't have to-"
The sound of a car pulling up interrupts her. You open the front door and step out onto the porch, watching as Max's car comes to a stop in your driveway. Your family has crowded behind you in the doorway, probably expecting to catch you in your "lie."
Max steps out of the car, looking unfairly handsome in his dark winter coat and scarf. His face lights up when he sees you, and you don't hesitate to run down the steps toward him.
"Hi," he grins, catching you in a tight hug and lifting you slightly off your feet. "Missed you."
You hear a loud gasp behind you, followed by what sounds like your dad choking on air.
"Missed you too," you murmur against his chest before turning to face your family, keeping one arm wrapped around his waist.
The scene on your front porch is priceless. Your dad's mouth is hanging open, his face pale except for two bright red spots on his cheeks. Your mom has both hands pressed to her face in shock. Ruby is the only one moving, bouncing up and down with excitement.
"IT REALLY IS THE FAST CAR MAN!" she shrieks, breaking the silence as she barrels down the steps toward you both.
Max laughs, crouching down to her level. "Hi Ruby. Nice to finally meet you. Your sister has told me a lot about you."
"You're real!" she exclaims, poking his arm as if to make sure.
"Very real," he confirms, looking thoroughly amused.
"I… you… but…" your dad stammers, still frozen in the doorway.
"Hi, Mr. and Mrs. LN," Max says, standing back up and guiding you and Ruby toward the porch. "Thank you for having me for Christmas."
Your mom seems to snap out of her shock first. "Oh my goodness, please come in! It's freezing out here. I… oh dear… the potatoes… I should… more food… I need to…"
"Mom, breathe," you laugh, as Max follows you inside.
Your dad hasn't moved an inch, still staring at Max like he's seeing a ghost. "You're… you're actually… the Brazil overtake…"
"Dad, no F1 talk yet!" you warn. "Let him at least get his coat off first."
"Right! Yes! Coat!" your dad says frantically. "I'll take your coat! And then maybe… could you… would you mind signing my…"
"Collection?" you finish for him, smirking. "The one you thought I was making up?"
Max raises his eyebrows at you, remembering your conversation about your dad's merchandise collection.
Ruby tugs on Max's hand. "Do you want to see my Frozen dolls? And can we watch the movie? Sissy said you've never seen it!"
"Ruby, let him settle in first," your mom calls from the kitchen, where she appears to be panic-cooking. "Oh God, is the food good enough? Do Formula 1 drivers have special diets? Should I-"
"Mom, the food will be perfect," you assure her, then turn to Max. "See? I told you they'd be cool about it."
Max tries to suppress his laugh as your dad continues to stare at him in awe, your mom stress-cooks enough food to feed an army, and Ruby continues pulling on his hand.
"Very cool," he agrees, pressing a kiss to your temple. "Though I think your dad might need to sit down."
"I'm fine!" your dad squeaks, then immediately sits down heavily on the nearest chair. "Just… just give me a minute to process that my daughter is actually dating Max Verstappen and I've been accidentally talking about my future son-in-law during every race and-"
"DAD!" you exclaim, feeling your face heat up while Max chuckles beside you.
"What? I'm just saying… all those times I said 'that Verstappen boy would make someone a good husband someday' and it turns out-"
"Okay!" you interrupt loudly. "Who wants coffee? Max, come help me with coffee!"
As you drag a laughing Max toward the kitchen, you hear Ruby start explaining the entire plot of Frozen to him, your mom muttering about needing to buy more food, and your dad still talking to himself about racing statistics.
"Still think this was a good idea?" you whisper to Max.
He pulls you closer, grinning. "The best. Though you might want to tell your dad to breathe before he passes out."
"Can we build a snowman after coffee?" Ruby calls out.
"Only if Max gets to be Elsa!" you shout back, earning you a playful glare from your boyfriend.
Looking around at your slightly chaotic but loving family, and seeing how naturally Max fits into it all, you can't help but smile. This is definitely going to be a Christmas to remember.
Tumblr media
The initial chaos has settled into a cozy scene in your living room. You're curled up on the couch next to Max, who has Ruby practically attached to his side. She hasn't stopped talking since everyone sat down, and Max, to his credit, is giving her his complete attention.
"And then Elsa makes this huge ice castle," Ruby explains, using elaborate hand gestures. "Can you drive as fast as Elsa runs up the mountain?"
"Probably faster," Max answers with a grin, making Ruby's eyes widen.
"Even in the snow?"
"Even in the snow."
Your dad, who's finally regained his ability to form complete sentences, sits in his armchair trying very hard not to bombard Max with racing questions. He keeps opening his mouth, then closing it again when you give him a warning look.
"It's okay, Dad," you laugh. "You can ask him one race question. Just one."
Your dad looks like he might cry from happiness. "The overtake in Brazil-"
"Which one?" Max asks with a playful smirk, and your dad launches into an enthusiastic discussion about racing lines and grip levels.
Your mom returns from the kitchen with a tray of hot chocolate and cookies, having finally accepted that she doesn't need to cook enough food for an entire F1 paddock. "Here we go. I hope it's okay, Max. YN mentioned you like hot chocolate."
"It's perfect, thank you," Max says warmly, accepting a mug.
Ruby immediately reaches for a cookie, then pauses. "Do race car drivers eat cookies?"
"Only the fast ones," Max whispers conspiratorially, making her giggle.
"Ruby, give Max some space to breathe," your mom says gently, noticing how your sister is practically in his lap.
"It's fine," Max assures her. "I have nephews. I'm used to it."
Ruby beams at this information. "Really? Do they like Frozen too?"
"I don't know, but I'm sure they'd love to hear your explanation of it," he says, and Ruby launches into another detailed plot summary.
You catch your mom watching the interaction with soft eyes, all her earlier panic forgotten. She meets your gaze and mouths 'He's wonderful' when Ruby isn't looking.
Your dad has moved on from Brazil to discussing tire strategies, but stops himself mid-sentence. "Sorry, I'm probably boring you. You live this stuff."
"Not at all," Max says sincerely. "It's nice talking about it with someone who understands racing. YN usually just tells me to stop being a nerd when I talk about tire compounds."
"Because you spent two hours explaining the difference between C3 and C4 compounds!" you defend yourself.
"It's fascinating stuff," your dad says eagerly, and Max nods in agreement.
"Oh no, there's two of them now," you mutter to your mom, who laughs.
Ruby tugs on Max's sleeve. "Can we watch Frozen now? Please? You promised!"
"Ruby, let Max rest a bit," your mom starts, but Max shakes his head.
"A promise is a promise," he says solemnly to Ruby. "Should we watch it now?"
Ruby squeals with delight, jumping up to get the remote. Your dad looks slightly disappointed that his racing talk is being cut short, but you can see him hiding a smile at Ruby's excitement.
"Fair warning," you whisper to Max as Ruby sets up the movie, "she knows every word. And she will sing along."
"As long as she doesn't expect me to sing," he whispers back.
"MAX!" Ruby calls, patting the spot next to her on the floor where she's arranged pillows. "You have to sit here! It's the best spot!"
Max obliges, settling down next to her while you stay on the couch, exchanging amused looks with your parents as Ruby starts the movie, already mouthing along to the opening music.
Your mom leans over to you. "I'm sorry we didn't believe you," she whispers. "He's lovely. And so good with Ruby."
"I told you," you whisper back, watching as Ruby explains to Max why Elsa has ice powers.
Your dad joins in the whispered conversation. "Think he'd sign my mug collection later?"
"Dad!"
"What? I'm just saying, Christmas cards would be sorted for the next few years…"
You're about to respond when Ruby shushes you all loudly. "This is the best part!"
Max catches your eye and winks, clearly enjoying himself despite being roped into a Disney movie viewing with a very enthusiastic seven-year-old commentator. Your heart swells watching him with your family, how naturally he fits in, how gentle he is with Ruby.
"Do you want to build a snowman?" Ruby starts singing along with the movie.
"Later, Rubes," you promise. "Let's watch the movie first."
She nods seriously, then turns to Max. "Pay attention to this part. It's very important."
"I won't miss a second," he promises, and Ruby beams at him before turning back to the screen.
Your mom reaches over and squeezes your hand, giving you a knowing look. Even your dad has stopped thinking about racing long enough to appreciate the moment – his youngest daughter sharing her favorite movie with your boyfriend, who happens to be the F1 driver he's been fan-boying over for years.
It's perfect, you think, watching your family and Max together. Different from how you imagined telling them, but perfect nonetheless.
"Shh!" Ruby whispers loudly. "Elsa is about to sing Let It Go!"
Max shoots you a slightly panicked look as Ruby starts to stand up, clearly ready to perform the whole number. You just grin and shrug. After all, you did warn him about the singing.
Tumblr media
Later that evening, you finally manage to steal a moment alone with Max. Ruby had fallen asleep during the third replay of Frozen, and your parents took her up to bed before retreating to the kitchen to finish some Christmas preparations.
You find Max on the back porch, leaning against the railing and looking up at the stars. The winter air is crisp, and you can see his breath forming little clouds in the darkness. Quietly, you step out and wrap your arms around him from behind, pressing your cheek against his back.
"Hey," he says softly, turning in your arms to face you. His hands find their way to your waist, pulling you closer. "Needed a little break from being Elsa?"
You laugh quietly, reaching up to brush a strand of hair from his forehead. "You were amazing with Ruby today. I think you're officially her new favorite person."
"She's a sweet kid," he smiles, then adds with a playful glint in his eyes, "Though I didn't expect to watch Frozen two times in one day."
"Just wait until tomorrow. She'll probably want to act it out."
He groans dramatically, but you can see the fondness in his expression. "The things I do for you."
"Mmm, and I appreciate every one of them," you murmur, standing on your tiptoes to kiss him softly.
Max responds immediately, one hand moving to cup your face while the other pulls you even closer. The kiss is gentle and unhurried, full of unspoken emotions. When you finally pull back, he rests his forehead against yours.
"Thank you," you whisper.
"For what?"
"For being so perfect with my family. For watching Frozen multiple times. For not running away when my dad started his racing commentary."
He chuckles, the sound rumbling in his chest. "I like your family. Your dad's racing knowledge is impressive, your mom's trying very hard not to mother me to death, and Ruby…" he pauses, smiling. "Ruby reminds me of Victoria at that age."
You snuggle closer, seeking his warmth in the cold air. "I was so nervous about telling them, and then even more nervous when they didn't believe me. But this… this is better than I imagined."
"Even with your dad asking me to sign his entire Red Bull merchandise collection?"
"Hey, at least he waited until after dinner," you laugh. "Though I'm pretty sure he's in there right now planning which items to bring out first."
Max wraps his arms more securely around you, pressing a kiss to your temple. "I love you," he says quietly, and your heart skips a beat like it does every time he says those words.
"I love you too," you reply, tilting your face up for another kiss.
This one is deeper, more passionate, until you hear the back door creak and quickly step apart.
"Oh!" your mom exclaims, looking flustered. "Sorry, I just… wanted to ask about breakfast preferences… but it can wait… carry on!"
She disappears back inside, and you both burst into quiet laughter.
"We should probably go back in," you sigh, though you make no move to leave his embrace.
"Probably," he agrees, but instead of letting go, he pulls you back for one more kiss. "Five more minutes?"
You smile against his lips. "Five more minutes."
In the quiet of Christmas eve, wrapped in each other's arms, you can't help but think how perfectly he fits into your life, into your family, into your heart. Tomorrow there'll be more Frozen, more racing talk, more of Ruby's endless questions, but right now, it's just the two of you, and it's everything.
Tumblr media
The winter sun is just beginning to peek through the curtains of your childhood bedroom, casting a soft golden glow across the room. You're wrapped in warmth, nestled against Max's chest with his arm draped around your waist. His steady breathing tells you he's awake before he even moves.
"Good morning," he murmurs against your neck, his voice still rough with sleep. His lips brush against your skin, sending shivers down your spine.
"Morning," you whisper back, feeling his hand slowly slide beneath your sleep shirt, his fingers tracing patterns on your skin.
"Sleep well?" he asks innocently, but his actions are anything but innocent as he presses closer, leaving a trail of kisses from your shoulder to your ear.
"Max," you breathe, caught between wanting to lean into his touch and knowing you should stop. "We can't… my parents…"
"Then we'll have to be very, very quiet," he whispers, nipping at your earlobe. His hand travels higher under your shirt, making your breath hitch.
You turn in his arms, ready to either give in or properly protest - though the way he's looking at you, eyes dark with desire and that signature smirk playing on his lips, makes you lean heavily toward the former.
"You're trouble," you murmur, reaching up to run your fingers through his disheveled hair.
He leans down to capture your lips in a heated kiss. "You love it."
Just as his hand starts to wander again, a voice pierces through the quiet morning:
"IT'S CHRISTMAAAAS!" Ruby's excited scream echoes through the entire house, followed by the thundering of small feet running down the hallway. "WAKE UP! WAKE UP! SANTA CAME!"
Max drops his forehead to your shoulder with a frustrated groan. "Your sister has impeccable timing."
"Welcome to Christmas with Ruby," you laugh, pressing a consoling kiss to his cheek. "I tried to warn you."
"YN! MAX!" Ruby's fists pound on your door. "GET UP! There are presents EVERYWHERE! And it SNOWED!"
"Five more minutes, Rubes!" you call back.
"NO MINUTES! NOW!" she insists, continuing to knock. "Mom said breakfast is ready and Dad made hot chocolate and I SAW A HUGE PRESENT WITH MY NAME ON IT!"
Max chuckles against your shoulder. "I suppose we should…"
"PLEASE!" Ruby calls again. "I promise I'll let you drink your coffee first!"
"That's quite the offer from her," you tell Max. "She usually doesn't allow any delays on Christmas morning."
"We're coming, Ruby!" Max calls out, sitting up and running a hand through his hair. "Give us two minutes to get dressed."
"TWO MINUTES! I'm counting!"
You can hear her dramatically counting down in the hallway, making Max laugh. "She's serious about this, isn't she?"
"Oh, you have no idea."
Tumblr media
The living room is a festival of color and chaos when you finally make it downstairs. Ruby's bouncing by the tree in her Christmas pajamas, while your parents are settled on the couch with steaming mugs of coffee.
"Finally!" Ruby exclaims. "I counted way past two minutes!"
"Sorry, princess," Max says, accepting a coffee mug from your mom. "But I'm here now."
"Max, sweetheart, you really didn't have to get us anything," your mom says, noticing the pile of presents he'd arranged under the tree last night.
"Of course I did," he replies warmly. "It's Christmas."
Ruby's practically vibrating with excitement as your dad starts distributing gifts. "Can I open mine from Max first? Please?"
At your nod, she tears into the elaborate wrapping paper, gasping when she reveals a beautiful wooden chest with golden details. "It's like a treasure chest!"
"Open it," Max encourages, smiling.
Ruby lifts the lid carefully, her eyes widening. Inside is a complete collection of princess dresses, each one a perfect replica from different Disney movies, along with matching accessories and a tiara for each one.
"The chest is magical," Max explains, kneeling beside her. "Every time you open it, there might be a new surprise inside. And look at this…" He reaches in and pulls out a small envelope.
Ruby opens it to find a letter with the Disney castle letterhead. "Dear Princess Ruby," she reads aloud, her voice getting more excited with each word. "You are cordially invited to spend a royal weekend at Disney World, where you will have a private breakfast with all the Disney princesses…"
She doesn't even finish reading before launching herself at Max, nearly knocking him over. "Thank you thank you thank you! Can I try on the Elsa dress right now?"
"After presents," your mom laughs. "Let's see what else Santa brought."
Your dad opens his gift next, finding an envelope that makes him pause. "Son," he says, voice thick with emotion as he reads the contents. "This is…"
"VIP passes to the British Grand Prix," Max confirms. "Including garage access, grid walk, everything."
Your dad has to sit down, clutching the passes like they might disappear. "This is… I can't…"
"And this," Max hands him another package, "is just a little something extra."
Inside is a vintage racing jacket from your dad's favorite driver from the 80s, signed and authenticated. Your dad actually tears up.
Your mom opens her gift next, despite protesting again that Max shouldn't have gotten them anything. She unwraps a beautiful pair of earrings.
"Oh, Max," she whispers, "This is beautiful."
Ruby, who has been surprisingly patient, tugs at Max's sleeve. "Can we do my princess breakfast now?"
"After we finish presents," you laugh. "And maybe we should have real breakfast first?"
"But I'm a princess now," she declares. "Princesses have special breakfast times."
Your mom shakes her head fondly. "How about pancakes fit for a princess?"
"With chocolate chips?" Ruby negotiates.
"With chocolate chips," your mom confirms. "Max, honey, how do you like your pancakes?"
"However they're made is perfect," he assures her, but your mom is already heading to the kitchen, muttering about making sure she has enough chocolate chips.
Your dad finally finds his voice again. "Max, this is too much…"
"It's not," Max says firmly. "You're… you're family now. Or at least, I hope…"
He glances at you meaningfully, making your heart skip a beat.
Later, after pancakes and multiple princess dress changes from Ruby, you manage to steal some time alone with Max in your favorite spot on the back porch. The morning sun has warmed the air slightly, but there's still a crisp winter chill that gives you an excuse to stay close to him.
"Your turn," Max says softly, pulling out a small wrapped box from his pocket.
Your hands tremble slightly as you unwrap it, revealing a velvet jewelry box. Inside is a delicate silver necklace with two intertwined pendants - a heart and a tiny racing helmet.
"Max," you breathe, touching the pendants gently. "It's beautiful."
"Look at the back," he says quietly, his voice carrying a note of nervousness you rarely hear.
You turn the heart over to find an engraving: "You're my biggest victory. -MV"
"I love you," you whisper, pulling him down for a kiss. His arms wrap around you, holding you close as if you're the most precious thing in his world.
When you finally part, you hand him your gift - a wrapped box that makes him raise his eyebrows at the weight.
Inside, he finds a handmade scrapbook filled with your personal moments - sneaky paddock kisses, quiet mornings at home, victory celebrations, and candid moments no one else has seen. The final page holds a photo from yesterday - Max on the floor with Ruby, both laughing during their third viewing of Frozen.
"This is…" he starts, voice thick with emotion.
"Wait," you say softly, reaching into your pocket. You pull out a key on a simple keychain. "I thought… maybe… if you wanted…"
"Move in with you?" he finishes, breaking into that brilliant smile that never fails to make your heart race. "Yes. Absolutely yes."
He pulls you into another kiss, deeper this time, one hand cradling the back of your head while the other holds the key carefully.
"MAX!" Ruby's voice carries from inside. "I need help with my Cinderella shoes! And then we have to build a snowman! A FROZEN snowman!"
You both laugh against each other's lips.
"Duty calls, Elsa," you tease.
"Only if you'll be my Olaf," he grins, pressing one more quick kiss to your lips.
"Always," you promise, letting him lead you back inside where Ruby waits, already changed into her third princess dress of the morning.
Your dad catches your eye as you pass, "If you don't marry this boy," he whispers, "I will."
"Dad!"
"I'm just saying," he shrugs, then heads outside to join the snowman-building committee.
Your mom appears at your other side, wrapping an arm around you. "He's right, you know. He's perfect for you."
You lean your head on her shoulder, watching Max let Ruby direct him on where to place the snowman's arms. "I know," you smile. "I know."
"Best Christmas ever?" she asks softly.
Looking at your family, and Max in the middle of it all, belonging there like he's always been part of it - you smile.
"Best Christmas ever," you agree.

Ruin the Friendship
Max Verstappen x best friend!Reader
Summary: you and Max refuse to confess your feelings for each other in fear of ruining your friendship. Naturally, Max chooses to ruin every date with another man you go on instead
Tumblr media
You can’t remember a time when Max Verstappen wasn’t your best friend.
The two of you grew up together, playing in the streets of Hasselt since before you could walk. Your parents joke that you learned to crawl just so you could keep up with him.
As you got older, your friendship only grew stronger. You were inseparable, there for each other through all the ups and downs of childhood and adolescence. When Max’s karting career took off, you were his biggest supporter, traveling all over Europe on weekends whenever you could to cheer him on at races.
After he moved to Monaco when he joined Red Bull, Max begged you to come with him. “I can’t do this without my best friend by my side,” he said. You didn’t hesitate — there was nowhere you would rather be than with Max.
Now you live together in his apartment in Monte Carlo. Mornings are spent on his balcony overlooking the glistening Mediterranean, drinking coffee and chatting about everything and nothing. Evenings are filled with video games, movies, and dreams of the future.
You know everything about each other, from favorite foods to secret fears. You trust Max more than anyone else in the world. He’s your person, the other half of your soul. Sometimes you think you love him as more than a friend, but you’d never risk what you have. If you lost Max, you’d lose yourself.
Today is like any other day. Max is sitting next to you on the couch, focused intently on crushing you in Mario Kart. You’re trying your best, but he’s just too good.
“Yes!” Max pumps his fist in the air as he wins yet again. “Too easy!”
You roll your eyes and shove him playfully. “Whatever, I let you win.”
He laughs. “Sure you did.” His smile makes your heart skip a beat.
You’re about to suggest another round when Max’s phone rings. He grabs it off the coffee table. “It’s Christian,” he says. “Probably wants to go over strategy for the race this weekend. I better take this.”
“No problem.” You stretch your arms over your head. “I’ll make us some lunch while you talk to him.”
Max answers the call as he makes his way out to the balcony. Through the glass door you see him pacing, one hand waving animatedly as he talks. You smile and head to the kitchen.
As you rummage through the fridge, you think about the race this weekend. You couldn’t be more proud of Max and everything he’s accomplished. But you’d be lying if you said you didn’t worry every time he got into that car. Still, you know racing makes him happier than anything else in the world. And his happiness is what matters most to you.
You find the ingredients for Max’s favorite sandwich — nutella and banana. As you start spreading nutella on slices of bread, you hear Max call your name from the next room.
“Y/N! Come here, I need your opinion on something!”
You poke your head out of the kitchen. “Can it wait? I’m making lunch!”
“No, it’s urgent! Just come here!” He’s smiling like he has a secret.
You laugh, wiping your nutella-covered hands on a towel. “Alright, I’m coming!”
You make your way out to the balcony, wondering what Max wants your opinion on. With him, it could be anything.
“Ok, what’s up?” You ask.
Max grins and takes your hand, his eyes twinkling. “How would you feel about being my date to the FIA Gala this year?”
You stare at Max, stunned. “Your … your date? To the FIA Gala?”
He nods, still grinning. “Yeah! It’s next month in Baku. I could really use my best friend by my side for moral support on the big Red Carpet.”
Your mind is reeling. The FIA Gala is the biggest formal event of the Formula 1 season. All the top drivers and teams come dressed to the nines to celebrate the end of the championship. Rumors always swirl about who will bring the hottest date.
And Max wants you to be his.
“Are … are you sure?” You stammer. “Wouldn’t you rather bring a model or something?”
Max scoffs. “Please. You know I hate those stuffy events. But with you there cracking jokes and making fun of everybody with me, it might actually be fun for once!”
You can’t help but smile at the thought of being on Max’s arm. “Well, when you put it like that, how can I say no?”
“Yes!” Max pumps his fist. “This is going to be epic. I’ll have my team sort all the details. All you have to do is show up looking gorgeous.” He winks.
You blush slightly. “I think I can manage that.”
Over the next few weeks, Max’s stylist comes by the apartment for dress fittings. You settle on a couture emerald gown with a daring slit up the leg. The perfect blend of classy and sexy.
Max lets out a low whistle when you emerge from your suite the night of the gala. “You look incredible,” he says, staring at you in awe.
You smooth down the front of your dress self-consciously. “So do you.” Max cuts a sharp figure in his black tuxedo.
He offers you his arm. “Shall we?”
Your stomach flutters as you take it. You still can’t believe you’re Max’s date tonight. Part of you wishes it were real instead of just for show.
As predicted, jaws drop when you walk the red carpet on Max’s arm. Cameras flash furiously around you.
“They’re gonna think you’re my new girlfriend,” Max murmurs in your ear.
You laugh. “Let them think what they want.” But secretly, you wish the rumors were true.
The night flies by in a blur of champagne, dancing, and laughter. You and Max stay by each other’s side the whole time, laughing and judging everyone’s outfits. It’s the most fun you’ve had in ages.
On the ride back to the hotel, Max rests his head on your shoulder. “Thank you for coming with me tonight,” he says. “I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
You kiss the top of his head. “That’s what best friends are for.”
But as you fall asleep that night, you can’t help but wonder if Max will ever see you as more than just his best friend.
***
Not long after coming back home, you’re getting ready for your first date since the FIA Gala. After seeing you all dressed up with Max, your friend Julian finally got the nerve to ask you out. You said yes, partly to stop constantly pining for Max.
You’re meeting Julian for dinner at a nice restaurant downtown. As you put the finishing touches on your makeup, Max lounges on your bed.
“I can’t believe you’re going on a date with Julian,” Max says, scowling. “That guy is so boring.”
You toss a pillow at him. “Stop it, he’s cute! I think it’ll be fun.”
Max catches the pillow and frowns. “What if I took you somewhere way better tonight instead?”
You pause your makeup application. “Wait, like a date?”
“What? No!” Max avoids your eyes. “Just as friends.”
You feel a twinge of disappointment. “Oh. Well, I already made plans with Julian.”
“Fine, go on your lame date,” Max grumbles. “But when Julian puts you to sleep talking about accounting, don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
You finish getting ready then head out to meet Julian. He greets you with a bouquet of flowers. “You look beautiful,” he says.
“Thanks!” You reply. The date starts off nicely. Julian is a perfect gentleman over dinner. But as the conversation wears on, you find yourself growing bored. Max was right, Julian is really dull.
Suddenly, you get a text from Max.
SOS come quick! Emergency at the apartment!
You frown, instantly worried. “Sorry Julian, I have to go. My roommate needs me.”
Julian looks disappointed but nods in understanding. “No problem. I’ll walk you out.”
You hurry home, anxious to make sure Max is okay. You burst through the apartment door. “Max! What’s wrong? Are you alright?”
Max looks up casually from the couch. “Oh hey Y/N. What’s up?”
“What’s up? You texted me that there was an emergency!”
“Oh yeah, we ran out of gummy bears,” he says, waving an empty bag. “I was hungry.”
Your jaw drops. “Are you serious, Max? I was on my date!”
Max grins. “Oops, my bad! But I saved you from dying of boredom with that guy. How about we order a pizza instead?”
You want to be mad at him for ruining your date. But looking at his smiling face, you can’t help but laugh. “You’re impossible,” you say, plopping down next to him.
Max just winks and hands you a controller. “Now come on, let’s see if you can actually beat me in Mario Kart this time.”
And just like that, you forget all about Julian and your ruined date. Nothing is nearly as fun as spending time with your best friend.
***
A few days later, you’re getting ready for another date, this time with a guy named Levi who you met online. He’s gorgeous with tattoos and an edgy style, totally your type.
When you tell Max about the date over breakfast, he nearly chokes on his eggs. “You can’t be serious. That dude looks like a complete tool.”
You roll your eyes as you grab your purse. “Don’t pretend you know anything about him. I think he’s hot and he seems cool.”
Max crosses his arms. “Well I don’t like it. How do you know this guy isn’t a total creep?”
“I appreciate your concern,” you say, “But I’m a big girl. I can handle myself on a date.”
Max opens his mouth to retort but you hold up a hand. “Nope, I don’t want to hear it! I’m running late as it is.” You give Max a quick hug. “Don’t wait up!”
You meet Levi at a trendy speakeasy bar downtown. He looks even hotter than his Tinder pics, with arm tattoos peeking out from under his leather jacket.
“Hey gorgeous,” he says with a crooked smile. He leans in for a lingering kiss on your cheek.
You blush. “Hi yourself.” Maybe Max was wrong about this guy.
You have a great time with Levi. The drinks are strong and the conversation is easy. After a few hours, Levi asks if you want to get out of there.
“I’d love to see your apartment,” you say with a flirtatious glance.
Levi grins. “I was hoping you’d say that.”
He pays the tab and you start walking to his place. As you turn a corner, you run straight into someone, nearly falling over.
“Oh my gosh, I’m so sorr-Max? What are you doing here?”
Max steadies you with his hands. “Y/N! Fancy running into you!”
You stare at Max in disbelief. “Did you follow me?”
Max avoids your gaze. “What? No, of course not. I was just in the neighborhood.”
You cross your arms. “I find that hard to believe.”
You stare at him in disbelief. Levi pipes up from behind you. “Uh, do you two know each other?”
“Unfortunately yes,” you reply tightly, not taking your eyes off Max.
Max finally meets your stare, his jaw clenched. “I was worried about you, okay? This guy looks like bad news.”
You scowl at him. “That’s not your call to make. I’m allowed to go on dates without you ruining them.”
Max’s shoulders slump. “I know, I’m sorry. I just care about you and want you to be safe.” He glances at Levi again uncertainly.
You soften a bit, seeing the genuine concern in Max’s eyes. You put a hand on his arm. “I appreciate you looking out for me, but I’ll be okay. See you at home later.”
You turn to Levi, who looks understandably confused. You loop your arm through his. “Shall we keep going?”
But as you walk away, the playful mood from earlier is gone. Levi tries to make conversation, but you’re preoccupied thinking about Max and the sad look on his face.
Levi invites you up to his apartment still, but your heart’s not in it anymore. You make an excuse and head home, feelings conflicted.
Max is on the couch when you storm in. “Hey! How was the date?”
You don’t answer, just grab a pillow and start smacking him with it.
“Ow!” Max holds up his hands, laughing. “What was that for?”
“You know exactly what it was for, you sneaky jerk! Sabotaging my date again.”
Max grins up at you impishly. “Maybe I just happened to be in the neighborhood.”
You keep hitting him with the pillow, but end up collapsing on the couch next to him, both of you breathless with laughter.
“You’re the worst,” you say between giggles.
Max drapes his arm around your shoulders. “Yeah but admit it, you love me anyway.”
You sigh and nestle against him. “Unfortunately yes, I do.”
And you know that no matter how many dates Max sabotages, he’ll always be your number one.
***
After the last two disastrous dates, you decide to take a break from dating for a while. But your coworker Jess convinces you to give it one more shot with a guy named Liam she met at her gym. Reluctantly, you agree to meet up with him.
The day of the date arrives and you get ready halfheartedly, already anticipating Max’s attempts to sabotage it. Speaking of Max, you realize you haven’t seen him all day, which is odd.
You find a note on the kitchen counter:
Had to fly to Milton Keynes last minute for work. Will be gone all weekend. Have fun on your date.
<3 Max
You’re surprised but also a bit disappointed. While his meddling is annoying, you’re so used to Max being a constant presence in your dating life. It will feel weird doing this without him.
You push that thought aside as you head out to meet Liam at a burger place. When you arrive, you’re pleasantly surprised. Liam is handsome, charming, and easy to talk to.
After lunch, you go on a walk through a nearby park. You’re having such a nice time, you don’t even think about Max. At the end of the date, Liam asks to see you again.
“I’d love to,” you say with a smile. Liam leans in for a sweet goodbye kiss.
As you turn to go, you hear a familiar voice yelling your name. “Y/N! There you are!”
You whirl around to see Max jogging towards you, slightly out of breath.
“Max? What are you doing here? I thought you had that work thing.”
Max shrugs nonchalantly. “Oh, it got canceled last minute.”
Liam looks between you two, confused. “Wait, is this the dude you live with?”
Before you can respond, Max strides up and vigorously shakes Liam’s hand. “Max Verstappen, nice to meet you! I’m Y/N’s … boyfriend.”
Your eyes nearly bug out of your head. “My WHAT?”
“Yeah babe, your boyfriend,” Max says, draping an arm around you. “Sorry I couldn’t make our date today, got held up at work. But who’s this guy you’re with?”
Liam stares wide-eyed at Max’s arm around you. “Uh, I should get going. See you around, Y/N.” He scurries off.
You shove Max away from you, fuming. “What the hell was that? Why did you pretend to be my boyfriend?”
Max shoves his hands in his pockets sheepishly. “I just couldn’t stand the idea of you dating that dude.”
“So you LIED? You scared him off forever!” You poke Max’s chest angrily.
He grabs your hand. “I’m sorry! I don’t know why I did that. I was jealous and I wasn’t thinking straight.”
You search his face and see real remorse in his eyes. Your anger starts to fade.
“Jealous? Why would you be jealous, Max?” Your voice comes out barely above a whisper.
He takes a shaky breath. “Because the truth is, I’m in love with you. As more than a friend. I have been for a long time. Seeing you with those other guys made me realize I couldn’t stand not being with you myself.”
You stand frozen, stunned into silence. Max rubs the back of his neck nervously. “Please say something.”
You finally find your voice again. “Took you long enough, idiot.”
And you grab his shirt and kiss him deeply. Max grins against your lips, wrapping you in his arms.
“No more sabotaging my dates,” you murmur.
“Deal,” Max whispers. “As long as I can be your one and only from now on.”
You answer by kissing him again under the setting sun. At long last, you finally have your dream guy.
***
The next morning, you wake up in Max’s arms, still unable to believe the incredible turn your relationship has taken. Last night after the park, you came home and talked for hours, admitting your true feelings while cuddled up on the couch. You kissed and kissed until you both finally fell asleep tangled together.
Now in the light of day, your worries start to creep in. What if this ruins your friendship? What if you’re not meant to be more than best friends?
You untangle yourself from Max’s embrace and go to make coffee. He finds you a few minutes later on the balcony overlooking the sea.
“Good morning, beautiful,” Max says, wrapping his arms around you from behind. He kisses your shoulder.
You turn in his arms to face him. “Can we talk about this?”
He frowns slightly. “Talk about what?”
You gesture between the two of you. “This new aspect of our relationship. I’m just worried it will mess things up. Maybe we should take a step back and think things through?”
Max’s face falls. “You’re having second thoughts?”
“No, not second thoughts exactly. I care about you so much Max, as my best friend. I don’t want to ruin that.”
Max caresses your cheek. “You could never ruin our friendship. It means everything to me too. But we both deserve to be happy, and I know we can make each other happy in this new way as well. I’m willing to take that chance if you are.”
You search his earnest eyes. He’s right — your connection runs so much deeper than just friendship. And you trust Max. If anyone is worth taking this risk for, it’s him.
You take his hand and intertwine your fingers. “You’re right. I want to make this work.”
Relief washes over Max’s face. He leans in and kisses you softly. “I promise you won’t regret it. I’ll be the best boyfriend ever!”
You laugh. “Well in that case, take me on our first official date tonight!”
“It would be my pleasure.” Max strokes your hair. “Thank you for taking a chance on me. On us. I know we’re meant to be, schatje. I’ve loved you all my life.”
“I’ve loved you all my life too,” you whisper. And you know that no matter what happens, your bond with Max will never break.
The future has yet to be written, but you’re ready to face it hand-in-hand with the man who has always had your heart.

🎻 102 + Lando please xx
a/n: ahhhh sasha!! ilysm because i was just so inspired for this 😚
102 — night changes by one direction
“does it ever drive you crazy just how fast the night changes?”
you and lando stepped out the packed venue, hands intertwined. as you two made your way in the throng of people, you were stopped by quite a few people who wanted to talk to the driver’s championship runner up. of course, it was expected at the fia end of year gala. you made sure to dress nice for today, wearing a red dress that had been around for a few years, but was one of your favorites. before you had left, lando was dangerously close to ruining all of your makeup, claiming your dress as the cause.
now, as you two walked out into the cool evening air, the night was wrapping up. lando’s fifth season in f1 was wrapping up. you’d been by his side since his first race and you couldn’t be prouder of how far he’d come. all the highs and lows, you’d seen it all. but it still didn’t quite sink in that it had already been five seasons. five years.
you glanced down at your dress, slightly self-conscious. five years you and lando had been dating. but that was a long time to stay with the same person, especially for a global celebrity with countless of people vying for a chance. you couldn’t help but feel like maybe lando would start to get sick of you, or that his feelings for you would fade over time. it was silly, but with all that time, you felt that you were holding him back in a small sense.
“hey, the gala’s over, no need to fuss over your dress,” lando chuckled, pulling you from your thoughts as he lead you to his car. once you two were in the more secluded area of the parking lot, lando grinned, adding, “and plus, you look beautiful in that dress.”
you smiled, getting into the passenger seat as lando started the car. as the car passed by buildings and towns and parks, your eyes stayed fixed on the moon, casting a glow inside the dim car. the windows were down and the breeze tousled your hair as you tried to stop it from flying. but as you reached a red light, lando didn’t think he had seen a more beautiful sight.
your eyes flitted to the moon once more, mind wandering to all the times you had looked at the moon before, thinking of lando. if only you knew how many times he had done the same. you felt lando take your hand in his, giving it a small squeeze. “lan?” you asked.
“yeah?” he responded, eyes still on the road.
“i’ve been thinking, and it’s already your fifth season,” you said softly. “isn’t it crazy just how fast everything changes?”
lando grinned, bringing your hand up to his lips and pressing a gentle kiss to your knuckles. the mere action made you blush despite all the years being with him. “i wouldn’t have it any other way, love,” he murmured. “and we’re not going to change.”
you turned to look at him. “no?”
“no, of course not,” lando replied, so confidently that hope surged in your chest. “even if everything else is changing, me and you won’t. we’ve made it this far - five whole years. and i can’t wait for the next five. and more. y’know why?”
“why?” you asked, playing along.
“because i love you,” lando said simply, and it made your heart flutter.
you squeezed his hand. “i love you too, lan.” with a smile on your lips, you turned your gaze back to the night sky, content.
joyce's birthday bash! 😽

⊹₊ ˚‧︵‿₊୨୧₊‿︵‧ ˚ ₊⊹
You were surprised to receive the invitation in the mail. A crisp off-white square tucked inside a gilded envelope, addressed to none other than “Y/N L/N”, and sent by McLaren Racing Limited – Oscar Piastri’s Formula One team. Maybe it was just for decorum, and it didn’t mean anything. Yet you knew Oscar, and nothing he ever did was for nothing.
The invitation itself described a gala being held the first of March, marking the beginning of the Formula One season. It was black-tie attire, meaning that you would have to go shopping for a fancy dress…if you were to accept. The image of Oscar dressed up in a tuxedo, his messy hair gelled and combed back, flashed through your mind. Fuck, how long had it been since you last saw him?
The answer entered your mind in an instant. December, three years ago, right before he got the call to join Formula One.
How could time have passed by so quickly?
Without a second thought, you pulled out your phone and filled out the form to reserve a spot at the gala. It might have been a foolish decision, but you knew you would not regret it. Oscar Piastri was worth any humiliation, times a thousand.
Three weeks later and you found yourself in the middle of a large ballroom, your heels sinking into the soft carpet and your heart pounding like you had run a marathon. It had been an hour since you arrived, yet there was still no sight of Oscar. Hundreds of people pressed around you, chattering animatedly about a variety of topics, all dressed up to the nines. You felt underdressed, as you had selected to wear a modest black dress and some gold jewelry, whereas every other woman looked like they were about to go on the runway.
A hand wrapped around your bare shoulder, and you stuttered out a gasp at the sudden cold touch. Whirling around, you made eye contact with the person. Dark brown hair, bright amber eyes, freckles dusting pale cheeks as if they were miniature stars. It was none other than Oscar Jack Piastri, your first love – and your first subsequent heartbreak.
“Y/N,” he greeted politely, his lips sloping in a soft smile. He looked like he hadn’t aged a day but somehow a hundred at the same time.
“Oscar.” His name tumbled from your mouth shakily, betraying your shock. “How – How are you doing?”
He shrugged one shoulder. “It’s been well.” You forgot the lilt of his Australian accent, the smile wrinkles in the corners of his eyes. So many priceless details embedded themselves in your mind. “How have you been?”
“University has been difficult, but I just graduated a few months ago. I’m looking for a job right now, but there’s not been many offers. I’m sure something will open up,” you babbled, common sense evaporating as soon as you laid eyes on Oscar. “Anyways…” You blushed. “I’m sure you don’t want me to talk your ear off.”
“No, please continue.” Oscar beckoned at you to keep speaking, and your eyes widened. “Trust me, anything you have to say is leagues better than what anyone else here would talk about. I almost just died from boredom because an old man tried to explain to me what the different kinds of car tires are used for in races.”
You laughed, the sound pealing in the room. “And you’re a Formula racer. How embarrassing.”
“Exactly. So, please enlighten me on what little Y/N L/N has been doing for these past few years. You don’t live a public life, so I’ve been wanting to know how you are.” Oscar looked at you, his eyes meeting yours and sending all your carefully constructed walls tumbling down.
You dropped your gaze immediately, the heat of his gaze burning a hole straight through you. “Let’s sit down first.”
He nodded and followed after you as you went to find a spot to sit. Once you had sat down, smoothing a napkin over your lap and leaning in closer to the table, he tipped his head. “Time to start, Y/N.”
“Well, there’s really not been anything, except for my studies. I’m majoring in business, which is relatively vague, I know, but I was hoping I could find a career in journalism. I like writing, and it pays decently well.” You sighed. “But there’s been no replies to my applications yet, and I’m starting to worry.”
Oscar tsked under his breath. “I know McLaren is looking for a new PR manager. Lando has been going through them like nobody’s business because he’s such a hassle. I think he’s too wild for those uptight pricks, but you’d do a good job handling him.”
You stifled a chuckle at the sound of Oscar swearing. “Maybe. It would be nice to travel around as much as you do. I’d like to see the world instead of staying cooped up in a dusty old library, cramming for an exam.” Oscar bobbed his head in agreement, a smile growing on his face. It was endearing, how easily you two fell back in a rhythm, but deep down you knew it would last as long as this gala did. Soon enough, both of you would go your separate ways, just like three years ago.
It was pelting rain, lightning arcing through the stormy gray sky and sending jolts of fear through your body. You hated the lightning, the unpredictability that came with it, since no one ever knew where it would strike next. Oscar was standing close to you, yelling over the wind, tears intermingling with the rainwater lashing down his face. “Come on, Y/N, don’t do this!” he cried, throwing his hands up in the air in frustration. “I love you. I’m sorry that I can’t give you everything you want, but that’s just the way life goes sometimes!”
“I’m not asking for the world, Oscar. I’m asking for you!” You wailed, choking on your tears and wishing that you could turn back time. “I refuse to let you go, I refuse to end things between us. You’re more than just a chapter in my life, you’re the whole book.”
Oscar shook his head angrily. “And I refuse to hold you back from your dreams. What’s the point of my success if you can’t achieve everything you’ve desired, because I stopped you from it? What kind of a boyfriend would that make me?”
“It would be worth it if it meant I could keep you.”
He scowled at you, frown lines marring his beautiful face. “Don’t talk like that, Y/N.”
You brushed back the flying strands of hair away from your face. “Oscar, I need you. I need us. Just give it a chance, please.”
“Don’t you think this is hard for me too? Throwing away everything we had? This is the fucking biggest loss of my life, and I have to pretend like I don’t care. I do. I care so fucking much, baby, but I need you to go on without me. There is a better man for you out there, I know there is. He’d carry the weight of the world on his shoulders for you like Atlas.” Oscar retorted. “I never wanted to do this. It was never my intentions to hurt you like this, but it has to be like this. My life will only get harder from this point on, and I’ll be coming home at later and later hours. I won’t be able to give you the attention you deserve. That’s a crime on its own, and I won’t let it happen.”
“Oscar…” You whispered, the word barely perceptible over the gale.
“Y/N, I’m sorry it had to end like this.” Oscar stepped forward, caressing the crook of your jaw in his palm. “But soon you’ll understand why.”
You forced back the memories that stung the back of your throat, making tears well up in your eyes. It had been years since that day, and you’d both changed. Oscar was a grown man, risking his life every weekend in a race car. It was destined to always be the right person, but at the wrong time. No amount of pleading could ever change that.
“I wanted to congratulate you on rising to Formula One,” you made yourself say. Oscar’s eyebrows shot up. “I never told you how happy I was for you.”
“It’s nothing,” he responded gently. The tension was palpable between you two for a moment until he said, “You should look into that position, Y/N. It would be nice seeing a friendly face around.”
“Are you saying Formula One is as cutthroat as the tabloids make it?” you inquired, absentmindedly fidgeting with the rings on your fingers. Oscar bit his lip. “Not fully, but yes. It’s a game within a sport.”
“Like chess.”
“But on a grander scale, with more risks.” You nodded thoughtfully. “Interesting.”
It was just like your relationship – two birds, one stone.
“Just one date,” Oscar wheedled, running a hair through his already mussed hair. “I’ll take you to the bookstore and you can buy any books you want, on me. Please, Y/N. One chance.”
You tapped your fingers on your chin, pretending to think. “No, Piastri. I’ll pass.” You turned your back on him and kept walking, shouldering the straps of your backpack and praying that he’d leave you alone. He had been assigned as your partner in history class last week, and it became glaringly obvious that he had a crush on you. Quiet, shy Oscar, who was somehow the most popular boy in the year. He was tagging along after you as if he were a little puppy.
“Why not? I know you think I’m cute, I heard you talking about it to Lottie.” He grinned when he saw your expression. Traitorous Lottie – your best friend could not keep a secret. “So why won’t you let me shoot my shot?”
You growled, annoyance boiling in your gut. “You shot your shot and I said no. Leave me alone, Piastri.”
“We’ve got this good academic rivals to lovers arc going, and I think it’s time we became lovers. Or even just friends with benefits.” He glanced over at you as you rolled your eyes. “Or we don’t have to put a label on it at all. Why can’t I take you out?”
You spun around, finally cracking under his pressure and giving in. “Fine! One date, Piastri, but if I don’t like it, I won’t go on another one. Happy?”
“Yes!” he cheered. “I’ll see you Tuesday after school. Got it?”
You resisted the urge to smack his smug, beautiful face. “Yeah. Got it.”
“You won’t regret it, Y/N. I promise I’ll show you how worthy I am.” Oscar beamed from ear to ear, and you couldn’t help but smile back at his eagerness.
You swirled the glass of wine in your hand, the hum of the substance sloshing around a distraction to the way your body felt when you were around Oscar. He was a magnet and you were being pulled into his orbit, colliding into him and leaving a permanent mark on the both of you. He was comfort and pain and what-ifs all rolled up into one stunningly gorgeous man. It couldn’t be denied – Oscar Piastri was breathtaking, with his bunny teeth and muscular frame. You had known him ever since you were sixteen, but now there was a grown twenty-three year old man in front of you, and it was hard to reconcile this new image with the one seared into your mind.
“Look, it’s time I cut to the chase,” Oscar said suddenly, bringing you back to the present. He steepled his hands, pinning you with a serious stare that sent shivers down your spine. “The reason why I invited you to this gala is because I want to give us another go.”
The wineglass dropped out of your hands, the red-colored liquid falling onto your lap and staining your napkin with a large darkened blob.
Another spin around the merry-go-round of the love you shared. Because no matter how many years passed, it would always lead you back to the same spot.
You slung your arm around Oscar’s shoulder, drawing him closer to you and savoring the warmth that spread through your body at the contact. It was November fifth, also known as Bonfire Night, and you had been in a steady relationship with Oscar for almost three months at this point. Your breath plumed out in front of you, the frosty air chilling you to your core. “When do the fireworks start?” you murmured.
“Soon,” he promised you, pressing a kiss to your forehead. “If they don’t start in five minutes, we can head back to the dorms and I’ll heat you up a cup of hot chocolate. Sound good, baby?”
You angled your head down. “Yeah, I guess. I was looking forward to this, but it’s so damn cold.”
“Yeah, I know. Sorry.”
“There’s nothing you can do about it,” you said. “Unless you can control the weather. In which case, please make it at least a few degrees warmer because I feel like I’m about to turn into an icicle.” Oscar rubbed his hand on your back, massaging you. “Strange. I thought you were really hot.”
You huffed out a breath. “Ha, ha, Oscar.” “You know you love me,” he teased.
A bright display of sparks arced across the night sky and you oohed at the variety of colors. Purple, pinks, vibrant reds and goldens all flaring brightly for just a heartbeat. “Thanks for taking me here,” you told Oscar a few minutes later when the fireworks died down. “I love you so much.”
“I love you more, Y/N.”
Oscar leapt up from his seat, springing into action in a second’s passing. He dabbed at your dress with his napkin, which bled a dark maroon color after a few seconds. “Fuck!” he cursed. “I’m sorry, Y/N. I shouldn’t have done that out of the blue.”
“It’s OK,” you stammered out, though only the opposite was true. Your world had tilted on its axis in the span of ten minutes, despite the fact that you knew Oscar had an ulterior motive for inviting you to the gala, whether you wanted to admit it or not. “I just…I was taken aback.”
“I understand,” he assured you. “You don’t have to answer. I’m sorry.”
You twisted your lips in consternation. “It’s fine, Oscar. I’m sorry for causing a scene.”
“It’s not your fault,” Oscar replied.
“I don’t know. I want this to work out between us. I hate the distance that we’ve gathered over these past few years, but I’m really unsure. Your schedule is busy, and if I took that job at McLaren, I’d be working with Lando, not you.” You cocked your head, analyzing the situation.
Oscar splayed his hand over yours, intertwining your fingers like a woven braid. “Arrangements can be made.”
“Oscar…” You thought aloud, a maelstrom of thoughts spinning through your brain at a thousand kilometers per hour.
“Please,” he said, his voice cracking, revealing how affected he was by you. You were so tantalizingly close, the promise of eternal forever hanging in the balance of your decision. “Remember the pact we made? That even if we stumbled off the path, we’d find our way back to one another?” He tightened his grip on your hand. “I remember. And I’m not calling us quits, not when I could be with you for the rest of my life. I never want you to become a stranger again.”
“I agree,” you conceded. “But this is all so fast.”
“We can take it slow, I promise, and build us back up from the start. We don’t have to do anything you don’t want to. Being near you is enough for me. Will you please let me earn back a spot in your heart?”
Your breath quickened in your chest as you realized how unwilling you were to give Oscar up; his proximity to you after all these years showed that you were never over him, and would never get over him.
He was not the boy who would sacrifice a once-in-a-lifetime love for his potentially insurmountable aspirations. He was the man who would burn down the world to ensure her happiness.
With a firm tone and a light heart, you declared, “Yes, I will.”
The verdict was like seeing the Sun after being denied its warmth for centuries. Oscar tucked you into a tight embrace, and the rest of the ballroom faded into a hazy, radiant bliss. You were where you belonged, a puzzle piece that found its rightful spot.
It was inevitable.
It was infinite.

Jack's heart raced as he straightened his tie in the mirror. It was a crisp black number that matched his tuxedo perfectly. Next to him, Y/n smoothed down her hair, a soft laugh escaping her lips as she caught him looking out of the corner of her eye. She looked radiant in the dress she picked out. It was simple, yet something about it made her eyes sparkle like the stars he had promised to show her once when they were kids.
The charity gala was in full swing when they arrived. The New Jersey Devils' logo adorned every surface, and the room was filled with the hum of chatter and clinking glasses. The scent of expensive cologne and perfume filled the air as they made their way through the crowd. Y/n felt like a fish out of water, her hands tightly clutching Jack's arm for support. She had never been to an event like this before. It was like stepping into a world she had only seen in the pages of glossy magazines.
“Jack, Y/n! Over here!” Amanda called. She was standing off to the side of the Devil’s red carpet. She had her usual simple set up, herself, a camera, and the microphone. “Are you guys ready to just answer some simple questions about how you met, how long you’ve been friends, when you decided friends weren't ‘just friends’ anymore?”
Jack looked over at Y/n and gave her a comforting smile. She returned it, a little wobbly around the edges. But she nodded firmly, at least Amanda is employed by the Devils and she won’t twist anything around.
“Anything to clear up the mess that was put out by people who don’t know anything.” Jack muttered.
“Great! First question I have for you all is this one, you two have been friends for a whi..” Jack cut Amanda off which isn’t anything new for their conversations.
“Not just a while, practically our entire lives.” He was a little eager to get the right information out, but he could also feel the anxiety radiating off Y/n’s body.
“Wow really? I figured it would’ve been since grade school.” Amanda laughed lightly. “Anyways, talking about last season Jack, you told me that you were superstitious when you were younger but you didn’t think you could be anymore. That was because your superstitious ritual partner was back home.”
Y/n looked up at Jack, her cheeks tinged with heat. Jack nodded, “yes, last season I didn’t have any superstitions. I didn’t have anything I followed before the pregame.”
“But you do now, right? We have these pictures sent in by fans in the stands, y/n’s socials, as well as our own photographer that shows you making sure to shake her hand or fist bump with her before every home game.” Amanda asks Jack with a smile.
Jack couldn’t help but grin down at Y/n. “Yeah, I do. And she’s the best luck I’ve ever had.” He wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her closer to him. She felt like home, and he was never letting go of that.
The interview went on smoothly, with Amanda asking them about their favorite moments together, how they balanced their relationship with his hectic hockey schedule, and what they liked to do in their downtime. They played it cool, giving the camera the charming couple act they had so effortlessly slipped into. But as they stepped away from the spotlight, Y/n felt the weight of the evening’s façade pressing down on her. She was aware of the glances and whispers from the donors and their significant others.
One of the donor’s girlfriends, a sleek blonde with a predatory smile, sailed past them, her eyes lingering on Y/n. "Jack's got a new one already?" she quipped to a friend, loud enough for them to hear. "They never last, do they?"
“I guess reputation really does proceed me.” Jack grumbled as they approached a table of his teammates.
Y/n felt the tension in his arm and gave him a squeeze. “Don’t let them get to you.” She whispered. “You’re not that guy anymore.”
“I know toots, it’s still a bit hard to hear sometimes.” Jack took a deep breath and nodded trying to clear his mind before plastering his signature smile and turning to face his teammates. He spotted Nico first and two free chairs.
“Aye Cap, are you saving these for me?” Jack asked hopefully. His other option was down by Curtis, who often likes to have fun at the expense of his relationship history at gatherings like this.
Nico looked over at Jack with a knowing smile and nodded. “Always.”
Jack pulled out the chair for Y/n before taking his own seat. His hand was gentle as he helped her down, his eyes never leaving hers for a moment. The gesture was so natural, it was as if they had done this a hundred times before. The other players and their dates turned to look, some raising their eyebrows at the new addition to Jack’s life. Y/n felt a sudden rush of nerves, but Jack’s strong hand on her back reassured her.
Nico leaned over with a warm smile, extending his hand. "You must be the famous Y/n," he said, his voice a smooth rumble. "Jack's been playing out of this world since you came into the picture. It's a pleasure to finally meet the woman who's tamed our resident bad boy." His eyes twinkled with mirth, but there was a hint of sincerity in his words.
The other teammates at the table nodded in agreement, their curiosity piqued by the uncharacteristic stability Jack had shown in recent months. They had all seen the social media trends, the endless parade of one-night-stands and party girls that had followed him around. Yet here was Y/n, looking like a breath of fresh air amidst the glitz and glamour of the gala.
Y/n took Nico’s hand, giving it a firm shake. “Thank you, Nico. It’s nice to finally meet you too.” Her voice was steady, but inside she was a mess of nerves. She had read stories about the captain’s protectiveness over Jack and wondered if she had just earned a spot in his good graces.
The conversation at the table flowed easily, mostly centered around the team’s latest wins and strategies for the upcoming season. The wives and girlfriends shared their own tales of navigating the tumultuous world of professional sports, offering Y/n a glimpse into the life she was pretending to be a part of. She tried to listen and contribute where she could, but only having a few games under her belt left little to no room.
Jack felt Y/n’s nerves through the fabric of her dress and gave her a gentle squeeze on the thigh under the table. He leaned over to whisper in her ear, “You’re doing great, babe.” His breath was warm and comforting, and she felt a little of the tension ease from her shoulders. “The guys and I have to go mingle with the donors to convince them to give money ... and if they already gave, get them to give more money. Are you okay to stay here and make friends?”
She nodded, forcing a smile. “Of course. I’ll be fine. Go do your thing.”
As Jack and the others stood up and made their way to the donors, Y/n found herself surrounded by the wives and girlfriends but it felt like being surrounded by vultures. They quickly crowded in around her like she was a shiny new toy. They were all dressed to the nines, their laughter tinkling like champagne flutes. Suddenly the dress she spent so much time looking for and had such an amazing day with Ellen shopping for, wasn’t as marvelous anymore. She felt like the odd one out.
She didn’t have the jewelry, the make up, or the hair upkeep that they had. She had simple. She was simple, by definition.
The conversations swirled around her, a mix of strategic networking and gossip that made her feel like she was drowning. She couldn’t keep up. Her head spinning in circles trying to figure out who asked what question and which woman to look at to answer the question.
One of the wives leaned in closer, her eyes glinting with malicious amusement. "You know, Jack's never been one for long-term commitments. How do you handle it?"
Y/n took a sip of her water, her throat suddenly dry. "We take things one day at a time," she said, her voice a shade too high. The woman's words stung, echoing the whispers she had heard earlier. She knows Jack's past, but she also knows her Jack—the Jack who has always been steadfast, caring, and utterly devoted to her as her best friend. If he can be that kind of person as a best friend, he can be that and so much more to his girlfriend.
The conversation around her grew more pointed, with the women sharing knowing looks and speaking in hushed tones about Jack's history. Y/n felt the heat rising in her cheeks as they dissected her relationship with a man she had known her entire life. She wanted to shout at them, to tell them that their opinions didn’t matter, that Jack was nothing like the person they were describing. But she couldn’t. She couldn’t let them get the best of her, not here.
“So this is who Hughes brought with him?” A different person who had approached the table asked.
Collective hums in agreement ring out.
“Jeez, couldn’t find someone a little more…in his league? She is nowhere near a professional athlete worthy.” A snarky snooty voice rang out
“Must be desperate if he had to choose you. Guess all the other women in the remote area finally got a brain.” Another lady smirked watching as Y/n’s eyes glossed over.
Their words were like a knife to her heart. Y/n took a deep breath. She could feel the room closing in on her, the whispers turning into a crescendo of doubt in her mind. She took another sip of her drink, closing her eyes as the cool liquid hit the back of her sandpaper dry throat. Silently praying that when she opened her eyes they would all be gone or she would have the courage to stand up and leave.
But instead, Nico was there. His hand was firm on her elbow, gently guiding her away from the table. "Jack sent me to get you," he said, his voice low and soothing. "He's caught up with some donors, but he didn’t want you to feel like he abandoned you.”
Y/n looked up at him, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears. "Thank you," she murmured.
Nico nodded, understanding in his gaze. He steered her through the throng of people, away from the judgmental whispers. They found a quiet corner where the music was just a dull throb in the background. He handed her a glass of champagne. "Jack's a good guy," he said, his voice earnest. "and he is caught up with a donor, but.” He paused and nodded his head in the direction of Jack.
“He has no idea about what was going on. I saw the panic across your face. I wanted to help you and Jack. He’s truly happy right now, last year I was worried about him. I thought I might have to suggest he go on leave. He was out of it. But now he’s an entirely different person. He’s back to playing the way he played before the draft. He says it’s all because of you.” Nico finishes at the same moment Jack happens to make eye contact with Y/n.
Jack’s eyes searched hers for answers she didn’t even know she was giving away. His smile faded as he noticed the sadness and the way she was holding herself. He knew it wasn’t just nerves anymore. He quickly apologized and excused himself from the donor, leaving the man mid-sentence with a look of shock on his face.
He strode over to where Nico had escorted Y/n, his stride purposeful and swift. He didn’t need to ask her nor Nico why they were clear across the ballroom from where he had left her. It was strikingly evident. When he reached them, he placed a hand on Nico’s shoulder. “Thanks, Cap. I’ve got it from here.” Placing his other hand softly on her cheek, his thumb caressing as lightly as a feather.
The look in her eyes spoke volumes. The whispers of doubt and the cruel words of the other women had left their marks, etched into the soft curves of her beautiful face. “Can we go home?” Her voice was weak as now she felt safe enough to crumble.
Jack’s hand moved around her waist and held her close, his hand on her face moved to cradle the back of her head and pulled her into his chest. “Of course. Whatever you want. Whenever you want, baby.” He didn’t like seeing her this way, didn’t like knowing that she was hurt because of his reputation. Or so he thought.
Her body melted into his, her arms wrapping around his waist, she leaned back and looked up at him. “Let’s go home.” The words barely make it out of her mouth before the first tear slips from her eye.

December 2021
With trembling fingers, you smooth out the fabric of your evening dress. You’ve done this countless times already, but another time can’t hurt. After checking yourself over in the mirror once more, running your fingers through your hair to make sure it looks right, and dabbing on a little more lip gloss, you exit the bathroom to rejoin your colleagues.
The event space sparkles around you with seasonal cheer. For the last few weeks, you were volunteered, without your consent, to help your department put on a charity gala. Since you were the freshest hire, it made sense that you were put on tasks that didn’t exactly fit your job description.
When you started working for a prestigious international publication based in Monaco, you expected to jump right in. You were an eager early graduate ready to take on the world at the ripe age of 21. Since you walked into the office on your very first day, you itched to grab your camera and hop on a flight anywhere to start chasing a story. Instead, you’ve spent the last few months being assigned to this and that around the office, slowly climbing your way up the metaphorical totempole.
Was it egregious at first? Most definitely.
Being in one place for an extended amount of time has never been your thing. You did two years of university on campus, but quickly grew tired of it. So, you switched to online and finished up in record time, all while hopping from place to place. However, you’ve slowly grown accustomed to seeing the same people everyday and making friends along the way while working in Monaco. It surprises you how fond you’ve become of this place. You’ve never called anywhere home, but this city has become as close as you think you’ll ever get.
Picking up your camera bag and black leather binder, you make your way towards the bar where the rest of the team set up shop. As you walk over to the huddle, you take a minute to truly admire all the work put into this gala. The giant arching windows of the event space are dressed in white and gold silks that match the table cloths and decor. Glittering lights hang from the vaulted ceiling, casting a warm glow over the large room. Candles line every table, causing the glasses and white porcelain plates to sparkle in the sultry lighting. There’s a dance floor in the front of the room, behind which is a short stage filled with the hired band’s instruments. And finally, there’s your favorite part. On the far side of the room, a silent auction is being held. There are tables lined with exclusive works from your company. There are first editions, rare prints, iconic autographed pieces, everything that makes a journalist or a collector want to combust. Finding all of the works that are on auction tonight was an incredibly difficult task, but equally as gratifying. It all looks just how you imagined it – exactly how you planned it.
Stealing a few more seconds for yourself, you snap a few shots of the details. The lighting gives the photos a sensual cascade of warm colors. You adore the way they look and can’t wait to capture more moments as the night goes on.
You hear your name being called from over by the bar. Snapping out of your creative stupor, you briskly walk over to the small crowd of your coworkers. They’re going over final checks to make sure everything is in order before we open the doors in an hour. Bobbi, serving as point for tonight's event, delegates tasks to everyone. As they’re assigned a duty, they bugger off to execute it as quickly as possible. After everyone leaves, it’s just you and Bobbi.
“You need to work your camera so hard tonight that you have to invoice the company for a new one.” She says pointedly, her tone firm and commanding. Bobbi has the ‘scary leader’ bit down to a science. However, you’re not afraid of her. She’s genuinely a great person, not to mention a brilliant writer, and also the closest friend you’ve probably ever had. She’s a couple years older than you and has been a bit of a mentor over the months that you’ve worked under her. She’s the no-nonsense to your fully nonsense life. In short, she keeps you grounded, humble.
“Working her like a racehorse, boss.” You confirm, nodding and giving her a mock-serious face.
“Don’t call me that.” She says while collecting her things into a neat pile. “And wipe that look off your face before it gets stuck like that.”
That puts a small smile on your face as she walks away. You watch as she stops here and there, straightening things out or fixing a wrinkle in a table cloth. Quickly, you snap a couple shots of her when she’s not looking. She looks effortlessly classy in her black dress and heels and slicked back black hair. You can’t help but hope you look as put together as her. But the chances are good you most definitely don’t. A word to the wise: if you’re going to live in Monaco, learn how to dress. Everything here is to the nines or not at all.
The next hour until the doors open is quick, maybe too quick. You’re in a bit of a tizzy as the guests start arriving. There are countless paparazzis and journalists waiting alongside the carpeted stairs that bring the guests to the front doors. You stand stationed inside to capture the night in candids. Your photos will be used in the next publication, so you have to do well. There’s a lot riding on your performance tonight. No pressure, right?
Glittering people slip through the doors, spilling into the event. You watch from the edges and shadows as their mouths fall open at the splendor. They lean into each other and whisper about the decor and ambiance. It makes your heart race, wondering exactly what they’re saying. It’s the nosy journalist in you that needs an answer to every question.
When the moment feels right, you snap pictures as discreetly as you can. It’s your job to be invisible amongst the party-goers. These people are here for charity and to socialize. The money that they haul in with them is far more than you could even bear to think about. It drips from them as they walk; it tumbles from their pockets, unnoticed. Celebrities and politicians and everyone in between has been invited tonight. There’s a tight feeling in your chest as you take picture after picture of the wealthy. There’s a large disconnect between you and these people. Not so long ago, it was a great day if you ended up with three meals and clean clothes to wear. Now look at you–taking pictures of men who wear watches that could finance the rest of your life.
As the time slides by and the sun settles itself into the horizon, the flow of guests has nearly stopped. A few tailenders slip in before the doors close, signifying the real beginning of the night. The music plays quietly in the background, but is nearly drowned out by the chatter that rises from each and every table. There are groups of people standing and socializing, a few people slung along the bar, and the rest are seated at their assigned spots. Sighing, you let your camera fall to your side for the first time since the first guest arrived. You’ve been working the room, snapping shots of any and everything that catches your eye.
You walk back over to the foyer, seeking out one last shot before the meal is served and toasts begin. As you walk, you adjust the settings on your camera so you’ll get the shot just right. Without checking around you, you bring the camera up to your eye to test the settings by taking a couple photos. Immediately, your eye catches on someone in the viewfinder. He’s standing along the wall, his head ducked down into a glass of champagne. His eyes are scanning over the bustling crowd of people. You can only see him in profile, but he looks nearly perfect leaned up against that wall with the icy glass pressed to his lips. His black suit glitters in the soft lighting along with his eyes. His skin is a warm tan, working blessedly well with the lighting that surrounds him. Quickly, you zoom in and frame up a better shot of just him. The shutter snaps shut a few times. As it does so, you watch in horror as the man starts to turn his face toward you, looking right down your lens. You capture it all in a line of photos. His furrowed frown melts into a sly smile as he catches you photographing him. He laughs a little while shaking his head.
When you finally take a moment to look at him, you find that you actually know him. Well, know of him. Bobbi’s son has forced you to sit down and watch Formula One reruns with him on multiple occasions. The face of one of his favorite drivers is this face in front of you. Lando Norris, Formula One driver for McLaren. And by the looks of it, a total cocky bastard. A cute bastard, but bastard nonetheless.
Needing to escape this situation, you try to remember why you were over here. You can’t believe you got so distracted so quickly. Thinking briefly, you remember the photo that you need to take. Just as you turn around to find the shot, a voice rumbles in your ear. His accent is acutely British and sends a wave of chills running down your spine. He’s unnervingly close, his breath hitting your ear and neck. It should make you terribly uncomfortable, but it doesn’t.
“Did you get my good side?” He asks smoothly, a hint of humor in his voice. As you turn to face him, there’s a cheeky smile plastered onto his young face. Seeing him this close, it strikes you now just how young he is. He can’t be much older than you, if at all. His hazel eyes are bright and glinting with humor as you stare him down.
“That depends,” You muse, folding your arms over your chest. “Which side is that?”
“You tell me, you’re the professional.” He shoots back with a wink while gesturing at your camera with his glass of champagne. You catch yourself before rolling your eyes, it’s too early to be harassing the guests. Instead, you decide to play his little game. You’re always up for a game.
Bringing your fingers to tap against your lips, you hum in faux concentration. Tentatively, you take steps to the right, examining his left side.
“No…” You say, expressing that it wasn’t his “good side.” But it’s simply not true, all of his sides are good sides. Pressing on, you take a few steps to your left to check out the right side.
“No,” You say again, a little more firmly. Instead of standing in front of him once more, you continue to walk around him.
“Ah!” Humor is clear in your voice as you stop directly behind him, staring at the back of his head. His hair is fluffy, but styled nicely for tonight. His neck is long and thick, causing his suit to bunch at the collar just slightly. His hands are tucked together behind his back, his glass dangerously close to spilling the remaining contents. You have to admit that he’s quite cute. The internal admission makes you blush to yourself.
“This is perfect.” You joke, trying to shake off your thoughts about him. You bring your camera out to take a couple shots of him. His head turns to the side just enough so you can capture a sliver of his face in your last photo. Once you’re done snapping pictures, he turns around with his tongue tracing over his front teeth. There’s a coy smile that plays on his pink lips. He takes your joke in stride, the humor most definitely not lost on him. You like a man who can take a joke.
“Jokes on you, I know I have a lovely backside.” He says quietly while leaning in to you slightly. One of his eyebrows pops up while he grins at you. You scoff a little while shaking your head. He’s nearly exactly as you’d imagined him. The way his eyes sparkle captivates you, drawing you in. In this lighting it's hard to tell exactly what the color of his irises are, but it’s a challenge you would love to take. You think about holding him close and slowly piecing together the puzzle that is Lando Norris.
Just as you’re about to make a witty comment about his backside, the feedback of a microphone turning on pulls your attention away. Suddenly, you remember that you’re not here to chat and flirt with the guests. You’re on the clock. Chiding yourself for being so easily distracted, you quickly switch the memory SD card in your camera for a new one.
“Duty calls,” You say quietly to Lando, “Excuse me.”
He blinks at you a couple of times, unsure of how to proceed. It looks as if he wasn’t expecting you to dash out on him. The thought makes you laugh. Everyone should expect you to dash out at the first chance. Though, as you look into his eyes, for the first time in a long time, maybe you don’t want to run. And that scares the shit out of you. Before you do something you’ll definitely regret, you turn on your heels to escape to anywhere but here.
“Make sure you send those to me. I love a good ass pic.” Lando calls to you as you walk away. In spite of yourself, you send him a grin over your shoulder before disappearing around the corner.
For the rest of the night, you try to focus on your job, but you catch your eye wandering. Whether it be of desire or compulsion, you weren’t completely sure, you look for him in the crowd of people. You search for him in the photos you take. His smile has etched itself into your long term memory, his charming demeanor dances across your mind. Savoring every time you get a half glance of him or just a piece of him in one of your photos, you can’t help but wonder if you’ll ever speak to him again.
The gala drags on. Party-goers get drunk and spend copious amounts on things that most of them will just hang on a wall to glance at occasionally. Staying to the edges as you’ve been told to, you watch in on these people. As you do, you feel something odd settling in your chest, a feeling that you’ll never belong here truly. It’s not a foreign feeling to you anymore, not after everything you’ve been through. However, rejection is rejection. All you are to these people is a silly girl with a camera, a wallflower, the help. A wave of emotion crests in your mind and crashes down into your heart. The overwhelming feeling of needing to run away from here, to escape these people and their frivolous lives takes over all of your senses.
Checking the time, you decide that you’ve done your part. It’s late into the night and the gala seems to be winding down. Sliding along the walls of the room, you make your way over to the corner where Bobbi has been looming all night. Her eyes scan over a paper in her binder as you sidle up next to her. She gives you a half glance before continuing to read whatever is in front of her.
“Leaving?” Bobbi says in that specific Bobbi way that makes you feel caught. You blame it on the fact that she’s a mother. Hence why you can’t help but feel like a small child caught in the act.
“Uh, if that’s alright with you, bos–Bobbi.” You stammer, feeling a little out of sorts. You usually aren’t the stumbling and bumbling type. Bobbi doesn’t miss it. She side-eyes you carefully, analyzing you from head to toe. After a couple of seconds of feeling like a circus spectacle, she sighs and closes the black binder in her hands.
“Go,” Bobbi says as her hands drop to her sides. “I’ll see you on Monday.”
Relief floods through you as the words come out of her mouth. You’re so pleased you think you could actually kiss her on the mouth. But that would be highly unprofessional while on the job. Instead, you thank her verbally.
Dashing off, you collect your bag and coat from the room in the front. You carefully tuck away your camera into your bag and pull out your wallet. The party continues behind you as you pull your jacket on, sling your backpack over your shoulders, and all but run out the front doors.
December air crashes into your lungs as you slip into the night. You savor the fresh way it fills your lungs, replacing the stifling heat of the party. Taking the stairs in twos, you bound towards the street to hail a taxi. You don’t have a car and biking here in a dress didn’t seem like a great move, so a taxi was the best you could do.
A few people line the street, standing scattered along the sidewalk in front of the event. The valet kiosk is busy with a few people who seem to be fleeing the party early as well. Smiling to yourself, you can’t help but wonder what is driving each of these poor souls home so soon. What are all of these people running from?
Your eye is caught by a flash of yellow. Raising your hand and reaching out onto the street, you attempt to wave down the taxi. You watch as it slows down and pulls in right behind a car that’s just been pulled up into the valet area. The sleek sports car hums with power that you’ve only recently become acquainted with. Monaco’s collection of cars seems to be endlessly vast and magnificently sexy. In the low lighting, the black car nearly fades into the night. Only the gleaming highlights of the reflective carbon fiber exterior and the glow of the headlights and taillights give away its shape. Your eyes are glued to it, wondering if the rattle in your chest is from the rumbling engine or just your stuttering heart. It’s no surprise when you didn’t notice him stride up next to you.
“Wicked, huh?” Lando says, standing just off to your right. For a few moments in your mesmerized state, you don’t recognize him. His eyes are on you, but you still haven’t peeled your eyes away from the car.
“Yeah,” You agree absentmindedly as you drag your eyes over the vehicle. Everything has faded into a blur, even your waiting taxi a thought of the past.
“Wanna ride?” Lando offers, the words tumbling out of his mouth. With that, your mind snaps back into focus. A frown falls over your face as you turn to the man standing next to you. There’s a warning poised on your lips, ready to tell off some stupid man that just because he has a fancy car, it doesn’t mean that he can just get whatever or whoever he wants. The second your eyes lock with Lando’s, the venom you were ready to spit is gone and lost. His eyes are wide and his bottom lip is pulled into his mouth as he looks at you. Your jaw goes slightly slack and for the first time in a long time, you’re speechless. You really aren’t on your game tonight. Chiding yourself, you shake off your inhibitions and try to fall back into your normal self.
“I mean,” Lando says while shifting from foot to foot and clearing his throat. “Would you like a ride home?”
Pink has started to creep up his neck and into his cheeks. A pinched and slightly embarrassed expression covers his face. It surprises you slightly. You thought that he was all bravado and classic arrogance. This display of sheepishness has caught you by surprise. Once more, you recognize just how young he is–how young both of you are. Teenage blushing and awkwardness haven’t completely left you yet. Something about it warms you in a way that you desperately need.
Glancing over at your taxi, you weigh your options. But there really isn’t a choice here, is there? Not taking Lando’s offer would be a slap in your own face and a shame to all of your core truths. There’s something deeper at play as well. It feels as though you’re looking into the eyes of fate, your destiny being drawn out before you. Plus, it kinda helps that he’s cute.
“Take me away,” You say, a genuine smile coming to your face. He blinks at you once before returning your smile in full force.
“Come on then,” He says while beckoning you to follow him. In a few brief steps, he stops in front of the passenger door and pulls it open. The butterfly doors lift up, exposing the luxurious interior. You think you might combust.
“I’m Lando, by the way.” He says, one hand holding the door and the other extending toward you. There’s a slightly smug look on his face. Narrowing your eyes at him, you slide your hand into his. It’s the first time you’ve ever touched. His skin feels warm against yours, his fingertips branding prints into the back of your hand. Sparks fly out from where you’re joined together, goosebumps cascading over your skin. Never have you had a physical connection make you feel this way, let alone a handshake. Something flickers to life deep inside of you. Lando’s touch has just awoken something that you didn’t know was there, but now cannot deny the existence of.
With your hand still in his, you tell him your name. To your delight, he repeats it back to you. The way it rolls off his tongue, painted in his accent, makes you want to drop to your knees. Sweet like honey is the way it feels to be in his presence.
“Pleasure,” He says. It doesn’t sound like a casual remark, though. It sounds more like a promise. The thought makes your stomach do a flip.
“Likewise,” You say, your voice coming out soft as velvet. The way his eyes are watching you makes you feel alive. Every nerve ending in your body is standing at attention, ready for whatever comes next. You might call yourself a bit of an adrenaline junkie, and this adventure with Lando has you buzzing.
“Hop in, love.” Lando says before finally dropping your hand. Butterflies flap in your stomach at the casual endearment. Sending him a small, crooked smile, you slide into the seat in front of you. After closing the door with careful hands, he rounds the car and joins you inside behind the wheel. The hum of the engine fills your ears as you allow yourself to analyze the interior. Black surrounds you, lit up by red LED lights placed around the console and dash. You tuck your bag by your feet before strapping yourself in with the seat belt.
“Where to?” Lando asks, his hand reaching out. For a split second, your heart starts to race, thinking he’s reaching out to take your hand. It would be a bold move, but not one you’d be opposed to. But he stops short, his long fingers resting over the gear stick. Flicking your eyes from his hand to his face, you tell him your address. He nods and then pushes the car into gear, leading the two of you off into the night.
Now, you should probably have thought twice about sharing your address with a total stranger, but the truth is, you don’t know how long you’ll actually be living here. In your mind, everything is temporary. Permanence has never been a rule in your game. So, sharing your home address with someone you just met and somewhat have started to trust doesn’t seem like such a bad idea. Plus, you don’t think Lando has the stomach to be a serial killer, so he has that going for him.
“How long have you been in Monaco?” Lando asks, his eyes not leaving the road. Taking the opportunity to stare at his side profile, you contemplate how to answer.
“A few months. I started a job here with the company that hosted the event tonight.” You say, shrugging and turning your head to watch the buildings fly by. Lights dance across your eyes, streaks of it blurring into the cityscape around you. You’ve never been in a car like this before. It’s mesmerizing, the way the sound and feel of it mixes with the visual, causing a sensory explosion. Powerful is the only way you can describe it. You wonder how it feels to harness such power. The man next to you does it so frequently, it’s no wonder he is the way he is. This understanding makes you feel warm, like without asking or him telling you, you’ve started to see him. It’s a brand new experience for you to feel this way in a personal matter.
“What exactly do you do there?” He asks, pulling you from your thoughts. You can feel his eyes on you now. The thought of him stealing glances at you while his eyes should be locked on the road makes little fireworks go off in your chest.
“I’m supposed to be a journalist.” You sigh, falling back into the deep cushion of your seat. “But right now, I’m just working my way up.”
Lando hums in acknowledgement of your struggle. Something tells you that he knows exactly what you mean. It feels so odd to be so comfortable with him, to know that you're being understood too. It scares you a little. Getting close is dangerous, you might end up getting burned.
“Wait!” You say as your eyes catch on a familiar sight. “Pull over here.”
The 24 hour grocery shop near your apartment has become your closest friend. On late nights, you sneak over and peruse the ice cream section. Tonight seems like the perfect occasion to stop by and grab a sweet treat. There’s nothing quite like an impromptu casual ice cream date.
Casual, right?
Casual.
Lando laughs to himself a little, but does what you ask, pulling into a parking space in front of the shop. You send him the sweetest smile you can muster up. He looks up and down your face, his lips slightly parted. The image of kissing those lips flashes across your mind but is gone in an instant. You can’t do that. You barely know him and would hate to give the wrong impression. Of course you’re attracted to him, but nothing can come of this. All this can be is a little bit of fun.
“Come on,” You urge, your hand falling on the door handle. You both exit the car and hurry inside the shop. Mindlessly, you grab Lando’s hand to lead him over to the aisle you’re desperately needing. But, in your hurry, you don’t miss the way he swallows hard when your fingers wrap around his. Having your hand again feels completely natural, as if the two of you had known each other for years.
Instead of dwelling on the deeper meanings of things or contemplating the intense energy between the two of you, you scour the ice cream shelves.
“Ice cream tells you a lot about someone.” You whisper to the man next to you, exaggerating your reverence to the frozen food section. Eyes flickering up to his, you’re pleased to find him looking at you. There’s a smirk pulling at a corner of his mouth.
“Really?” He coos sarcastically.
“Yeah, so just know I am judging you on what you choose.” You fire back. He smiles now, the apple of his cheeks and the slightest of dimples popping out. Shaking his head at you, he carefully approaches the freezer. He doesn’t drop your hand, however. Your interlocked fingers hang between the two of you while he contemplates his decision. Casting one last glance at you, he yanks the door open and snatched his choice.
Without being asked, he presents you with his selection. It’s peanut butter pecan. Bringing your free hand to your mouth, you try to stifle your laugh. He furrows his brow, looking terribly offended.
“This is objectively a great flavor.” He defends weakly.
“If you’re geriatric, then definitely.”  You shoot back, your voice weak with suppressed laughter. He shakes his head at you, tucking his tongue into his cheek.
“Go on then.” He says while gesturing wildly with his ice cream in hand. Smiling widely, you take all but two seconds to pluck your favorite from the shelf. With no little amount of flair, you show him your far superior pick.
“Cookie dough? So basic.” He says incredulously, looking completely underwhelmed.
“I think you mean ‘classic.’” You correct, tilting your head to the side. Even when he’s perturbed, you can’t help but admire him. Somewhere along the way, he lost his tie and undid the top button of his dress shirt. His hair is messy now, unlike when you first saw him. He must have been running his hands through it. You wonder what it feels like to run your hands through his hair.
“I think not.” He scoffs, mimicking your head tilt. Rolling your eyes, you drop his hand to shove his shoulder playfully. You breeze past him towards the checkout. But before you turn the corner around the aisle you glance back at him.
“Come on, mister. We have to get you back to the retirement center before anyone notices.” You tease before finally slipping away. Laughing to yourself, you make your way to the only open checkout counter. The older gentlemen standing behind the counter watches you approach with kind eyes.
“Bonsoir, Anton,” You greet him with a smile before handing him your pint of ice cream. Anton works the night shift frequently, meaning you and him have become very well acquainted.
“Bonsoir, mon cher.” He says back in a soft voice. He scans your ice cream into the system just as Lando comes up right behind you. His chest presses into your shoulder as he leans forward to hand his ice cream to Anton. It occurs to you like a tidal wave that you never want him to move. Having him pressed against you feels like heaven on earth. It’s so right, so warm…
And then it’s gone. He backs up off of you and slides around to pay. Anton hands him the ice creams along with a couple of plastic spoons. Swallowing hard, you glance from Lando to Anton. From the corner of his eye, Anton watches you. You pop an eyebrow at him. He gives you a look that says not bad. Shaking your head at your friend, you can’t help but smile. Anton is right. Not bad, not bad at all.
“Au revoir,” You say with a wink.
“Se comporter,” Anton whispers. “Au revoir.”
Behave. Smiling wildly, you catch up with Lando who’s waiting at the end of the counter. He hands you your ice cream and spoon, which you take gratefully.
Exiting the shop together, you stand basking in the glow of the shop’s lights that stream through the windows. You peel the lid from your ice cream and open up the package to the plastic spoon before shoving a bite into your mouth. When the cold snack hits your tongue, it sends a chill through you along with a fabulous wave of flavor. Ice cream at night in December might not have been your most practical idea, but damn was it delicious.
“So, Lando,” You say once you’ve swallowed, bumping your shoulder against his. “What is it that you do?”
He’s in the middle of spooning a bite into his mouth when his eyes widen and his eyebrows shoot up. The spoon hangs in his mouth for a second while he tries to formulate his answer. You can see the ‘you don’t know who I am’ look on his face and hope desperately that he doesn’t voice those thoughts aloud. Of course you do know who he is, but you still want to hear him tell you.
“I’m a driver.” He says vaguely, his eyes falling back to his ice cream. Pressing your lips into a line to refrain from smiling, you loop your arm into his. You begin walking down the street, lugging him after you. He doesn’t complain, but simply follows your actions, striding alongside you.
“What does a driver do?” You pry, wanting to get a real answer out of him.
“Drives,” He smirks. Rolling your eyes, you have to admit you walked into that one.
“If you continue to be so vague with your answers, I’ll have to assume you’re a getaway driver. Are we talking full ‘Baby Driver’ here? Or more ‘Fast and the Furious?’ Just so you know, I’m not really a fan of career criminals–” You ramble and badger him verbally to get him to open up a little. Sometimes all you need to do to get answers is just annoy someone.
“I’m not a criminal!” He interjects, a little dumbfounded at your verbose display.
“Would a free criminal admit to being a criminal?” You ponder aloud before shoving another bite into your mouth. His eyes are on you. You pin him with a quizzical look to further your point. He shakes his head and pops another bite of ice cream into his mouth while you continue to stroll down the street together.
“You’re–” He starts, but you’re quick to cut him off.
“Still waiting for an answer. Yes I am.” You say, finally looking up at him with serious eyes.
He gazes down at you softly, his lips drawn to the side as he bites the inside corner of his mouth. You can tell he’s slightly giddy about what he’s going to say to you. He’s gauging your reaction carefully. You flash him a small smile and wide eyes.
“I’m a Formula One driver for McLaren.” He says casually then waits for your response. Honestly, you’re sort of surprised that he didn’t lead with this the entire night. His cockiness is clear, but that’s sort of to be expected when you are one of only 20 people that do what you do. It’s not an excuse or a free pass for arrogance, but it makes sense. You’ve entered the part of the night where you’re going to expose his true colors.
“Oh, that’s cool.” You say equally as casually, downplaying the massive deal that he is. It’s not like you aren’t impressed with him, because you are. But there’s a game to play here and rules to follow. He blinks rapidly as his plan starts to fall to pieces in front of him. It’s borderline hilarious to watch his bravado splinter. He flounders slightly, scrambling to pick up the pieces of his failed move.
“That usually works, right? Telling girls that you’re this international racing star?” You say, putting his failure in the limelight. Red flushes into his cheeks, only slightly noticeable as you pass under the warm glow of a streetlight. He catches on then, his nervousness and embarrassment fading slightly.
“Yeah,” He says, shame being conveyed in his monosyllabic answer. Slyly, you glance up at him, a smirk playing across your lips. It’s fun to make people squirm a little. It makes them realer, more human. A guy like this who spends his time in the public eye deserves to be unleashed into pure, unadulterated humanity every once in a while. Your incessant teasing allows him that freedom.
“Did you know?” He asks after a quick pause, his face pinched into a frown. Instead of answering, you look away and take another bite of ice cream. Scoffing, he stops walking. Slipping your arm out of his, you swing around to stand in front of him. He’s glowering at you. It makes you laugh.
“I knew,” You admit while popping the lid back onto your ice cream. “My friend’s son is obsessed with you.”
He looks at you with wide eyes. You opt out of telling him that you’ve seen all of his races and post-race interviews from this past season. Maybe that’s why you feel like you know him so well. No other reason makes sense.
“Why did you harass me into telling you?” He asks while plucking your plastic spoon from your hand to dispose of in a nearby trash can.
“I don’t think I harassed you into anything. But, habit, I suppose.” You say while shrugging. It’s the best answer you can give him. You really did want to see the way he acted and get the real answers that you were searching for. There’s a lot to learn about someone in the way they talk about themselves. When he comes to stand in front of you, he has a crooked smile on his face. Relief washes over you when you see that he’s not actually upset.
“Journalists,” He huffs dramatically before flashing you a show-stopping grin. You bite your bottom lip as you gaze into his eyes. They’re bright and glittering in the night, a beacon of light in the darkness. You blink up at the man in front of you, feeling slightly dazed. He’s stepping closer, invading your space. It makes you go completely still. For all of his thinly veiled arrogance and annoying charm, you can’t help but feel drawn in by him. There’s a man inside of those defenses that you’re desperate to see.
But he isn’t a story to be hunted down and peeled apart, he’s a person.
It occurs to you then that this is highly dangerous. The feelings that have been stirring in you all night because of the man standing in front of you are the type that you always avoid. Growing connections and reaching out to people puts them at risk. There’s never a moment where you’re not thinking about leaving or what’s coming next. You can’t allow yourself to put people in the line of fire. It’s not that you don’t care about people; it’s about not allowing people to care for you. Once you run out of their lives, never to return, you’re the one responsible for their broken hearts if it goes too deep.
This situation with Lando is a prime example of the thing you’ve always feared. You can tell that Lando is starting to care. He cares about how you see him; he cares about the way your hand fits in his; he cares about the way you smile at him. It crushes you. In a world where this should make you over the moon, you feel six feet under. Tonight is a one night thing. It has to be. It’s the only way to keep you both safe.
So, you do what you do best. You run.
“It’s getting pretty late,” You say, taking a step back for safety. It physically pains you to say the words out loud, knowing they’re a prerequisite to an unavoidable goodbye. You have to remind yourself that a little bit of pain now is worth it to spare everyone from a heartbreak.
Lando is taken aback by your sudden shift in mood. It’s understandable. Just seconds ago, he was moving in after spending a lovely time with you. Now he’s being rejected. When a small flash of hurt paints his features, you want to wrap him up in your arms and explain to him why you’re doing this. But you know that he’ll just question and fight you. So you don’t explain yourself, you just let him work through his emotions alone.
Alone.
Alone.
Alone.
The word echoes through your mind as Lando just nods. Without another word, you both turn back the way you came to return to his car. Suddenly, the chill of the winter night that you had avoided with banter and affection, seeps in. It reaches its icy hands around your heart and squeezes. Even though you’re standing right next to Lando, you feel utterly alone. It hurts for now, but you know you’ll find comfort in the familiar feeling once again. You always do.
Lando drives you the rest of the way home. There are few words that pass between you and not one smile. You have to fight yourself not to crack a joke or tell him that you don’t really want to go home. You wish that you could stay out with him all night, talking and laughing and smiling. But you can’t. Some dreams are meant to stay dreams, wishes meant to stay wishes.
When he pulls up to your building, he tosses the car into park. It surprises you a little when he turns to you fully. His eyes are narrowed and searching. You know exactly what’s coming.
“So this is it?” He asks firmly, demanding an answer. Everything inside of you rebels against the end. You struggle to confirm the worst, the words choking you. It’s been a long time since a goodbye was this hard. You’d let it get too far this time and there’s no one to blame but yourself.
“This is it.” You say, nodding your head and dropping his gaze. Nervously, your fingers fidget with the lip of your ice cream lid. There’s a few moments of silence that solidify your point. It’s not a choice; it’s a necessity. He’ll understand that in time and so will you.
Not being able to take another second of sitting in his presence for fear you might go back on your own decision, you grab your bag and push the door open. As you stand and sling your bag over your shoulders, you watch as he watches you.
“Goodbye, Lando Norris.” You find yourself saying. Goodbyes are your specialty, so why does this one feel so unnatural? You can’t help but feel like you’re a fate from the ancient Greek myths, cutting off your own thread of destiny.
“Goodbye,” He says, the shears of fate coming to a close along the tie that connected the two of you.
You shut the door and turn your back on the car. Every single step away feels like a hike up a mountain. A personal sort of gravity tries to yank you back towards him. It would be so easy to fall into his arms, into a kiss that you’ve been dreaming about since you first laid eyes on him.
Instead of giving into ease, you cast one last look over your shoulder before hiking the rest of the way to your apartment.
The eternal feeling of never again settles into your bones.
Sitting at your desk, you lean your cheek against your fist. It’s Monday and you’re, unfortunately, sitting in your office at work. Today’s agenda consists of going through the thousands of photos you took at the charity gala. The part you aren’t so in love with about being a photographer is having to go through the tedious work of selecting the best few photos out of a massive sum. It’s monotonous and tiresome after a few hours and you still have a few hundred more to just look through before you even start editing.
Sighing loudly, you toss yourself back in your chair. You’ve been sitting here for too long and you’re starting to get antsy. You need a change of pace.
With your laptop in hand, you waltz into the break room to grab a snack before walking yourself to the stairs. Swift steps carry you all the way up to the roof. Some fresh air sounds like exactly what you need. You wedge the door stop between the frame and the door before carefully propping it open just a crack. Getting locked out would be highly embarrassing.
It’s an unusually nice day for late December, the sun poking out through the clouds and the wind nothing but a small breeze. You beeline for the spot on the edge of the roof that connects to the stairway building. It blocks the wind and gives you a great view of the city.
You sit on the edge of the roof, leaning back against the brick wall that encloses the stairway. Your legs dangle freely over the side of the building while your eyes slip over the Monaco skyline. It’s late in the day and the streets are starting to fill with post-work day traffic. Closing your eyes, you listen to the loud hum of city life.
After a few moments of indulging yourself, you crack open your eyes to begin working again. Firing up your laptop, you resume searching through your photos. But, something in the top corner of your screen makes you stop your scrolling. It’s a little blue folder that you’d made earlier today. On a whim, you collected all the photos that you took of Lando and put them into a folder. A few were actually really great shots that might end up being used in the gala piece. Others that you took weren’t anything special to an outsider.
But, to you, they meant more.
Your heart still carries the dull ache of your night spent together. His smile and laugh still float across your memory. Frequently, you think of him, of his touch. Every part of it was so slight, but it felt perfect. Small moments coalesce into a memory that won’t be soon forgotten. It’s not let you stop thinking about him, constantly opening up the “LN” folder you now have saved on your laptop just to relive it. You find yourself again daring to wonder if this would be the first and last time you would see him. It’s completely out of character for you. Everything about him and this situation is unnerving.
Part of you is unable to let go of him as you have done with everything else in your life. Staring at the photos of Lando, your mind starts to formulate a plan. Jokingly, he asked you to send him that photo that you took from behind him. There are several photos, but your personal favorite is when he started to turn towards you. His profile was captured, exhibiting his nose and lips perfectly. His neck is strained, causing his muscles to pop. And his hands, his gorgeous hands are tucked so neatly behind his back and clutching that champagne glass so perfectly that you can’t not admire them.
Tossing your other work to the back burner for a minute, you open up your editing application and go to work fixing up a couple of things on the photo. When you’re finished, it’s a glorious black and white picture that makes him glow like a sunspot. Appreciating your own handiwork, you save the photo under a new name into the same folder.
Without a second thought, you pull out your phone and scroll through your contacts before finding the right one. Your call to the PR department is answered within seconds. One of the girls you know who works answers and introduces herself. You greet her warmly before getting down to business.
“I need the address of one of our PR recipients.” You say into the receiver.
“Sure,” She says happily, the small noise of a clicking keyboard can be faintly heard in the background. “What’s this for?”
“I had a request for a print to be mailed to him.” You tell her a half truth, not wanting to get in trouble with anyone. “I told him that I’d take care of it myself. You know how these guys can be.”
You hear her mumble in agreement. People who personally request specific prints from us can be quite picky about how things are handled. You know this little bluff will help you streamline the process of getting Lando’s address.
“What’s the name?” She says.
“Lando Norris,” You hum to her sweetly, not wanting to jeopardize your mission. The other end falls silent while she goes about looking him up. Your breathing is uneven and slightly nervous. It’s not your first time toeing the line, but bending the rules never fails to get your blood pumping. You love it.
“Found him! Emailing his info to you now.” She says in her sing-song voice. You fist bump the air in success.
“Thank you!” You say before ending the call. The email pops up on your laptop screen immediately. Wasting no time, you open up the application and favorite the email so it won’t get lost. Then you start to compose an email of your own. Scribbling down a few things and uploading the photo, you send it off into cyberspace.
Once more, you scroll your contacts until you find the name of a friend who works in printing. You ring him while chewing on your nails.
“Hello?” He answers, the whir of machines is loud enough to make you strain to hear him properly.
“Michael! Could you do me a favor? I have a guy I need to get a print to ASAP.” You chirp into your phone.
“What do you need?” He sighs, sounding far away and distracted.
Smiling to yourself, you give him the specs. You wanted a large canvas, matte print. Nothing too crazy, definitely doable on a tight schedule. He confirms what you need by repeating it back to you and then lets you know that he got your email.
“Pick it up tomorrow.” He says shortly before hanging the phone up. You make a mental note to pick up an extra coffee for Michael tomorrow as a thank you.
Happily, you go about finishing your work for the day. You can hardly wait to return to work tomorrow to get your gift sent off to Lando. He’s an international address, so the sooner the better.
You’re a little unsure if this is a good idea. Reaching out to him this way is dangerous. It opens doors that you’ve already shut tight. There’s no closure to be had because everything is already done. There’s no point in exploring this any further because there’s no future here. The only future you have interest in is where you’re going next.
But, there’s still this pull to make contact again, even in just a small way. It doesn’t mean anything. At least you have to keep telling yourself that until you believe it.
When you finally feel like you’ve hit a good place to pause for the night, the sun has already set and the cool winter night has wrapped up the city in front of you. Sighing, you take a minute to enjoy the brisk chill of the season. Part of you wishes for snow, but the more rational part of you is glad for clear roads.
The trip down the stairs and to your desk is quiet. The office has been all but deserted, leaving only you and a couple night-owls waiting to call it a night. You make your way to your cubicle, ready to get out of this place for today. Slipping your laptop into your bag, you check over your desk to make sure you have everything. Right before you leave, you scribble on a sticky note to remind yourself to pick up Lando’s print in the morning. It seems useless though because you don’t think that you would ever forget. Once you have it pasted on the corner of your monitor, you turn tail and leave the office in the dust.
Bursting out into the cool Monaco night, you can’t help but feel a little more alive when you escape the office. A deep breath fills your lungs as you make your way over to your bike. It’s the last one in the stand. You unlock it swiftly, mount it, and head off towards your apartment.
The streets of your city are starting to fill once more. Nightlife in Monaco is stretching its arms and blinking its tired eyes. From afar, you watch the expensive cars and people line the streets. There’s no better place to people watch. As you fly by on your bike, you catch only the sped up version. It reminds you of your night with Lando. At this point, everything reminds you of the short time you spent together. Your heart aches to return to that night, to feel the warmth you’ve been missing since you left him in his car in front of your apartment.
It pains you to stop at the grocery store that you and Lando visited, but you need something to eat. This has become somewhat of a nightly ritual, grabbing food on your way home from work. It’s like a tiny adventure to end your day. But since this place is now tainted with the memory of Lando, it feels less joyful and a lot more melancholy.
Grabbing some supplies for a sandwich and your favorite drink, you decide that’s sufficient for tonight’s meal. Just as you’re about to pay the cashier, which you’re infinitely glad isn’t Anton, something across the shop catches your eye. It’s a small kiosk of brightly colored cards. They’re postcards. They must have just put them out because you haven’t seen them yet. A small smile breaks across your face as you ask the cashier to give you another minute.
Postcards have always been a little obsession of yours. When you bounced around from place to place as a kid, you would always grab a postcard from wherever you ended up. There’s something comforting about carrying a little piece of everywhere you’ve been with you. You left lingering pieces of yourself in those places, so it seems only right for you to return the favor. The symbolism is painfully applicable to you and Lando. There’s a piece of you that will always live for him.
Carefully, you select two postcards before rushing back to pay for all of your things.
With revitalized fervor, you bike the rest of the way home. You tie up your bike and bound into your apartment building. Once you enter your apartment, you carelessly sling your backpack onto a chair while plopping the grocery bag onto the counter. You snag a pen from the side pocket of your bag and fish out the postcard you specifically chose for Lando from the grocery sack.
With a small smile on your face in spite of yourself, you write him a brief note on the back of the card. As your pen glides across the surface, your plan lurches into action.
Little do you know just how far this game will go.
Lando leans against the door of his apartment with his eyes closed. He’s finally returned to Woking after a much needed holiday to some remote island in the middle of nowhere. As much as he loves to vacation (and trust that he really loves vacation, all the girls and parties and days laid out on the beach), he’s glad to be home. He was distracted the entire time he was away, and not in the way he intended. His thoughts were focused on something that was gone and lost: you. No matter what he tried, he just couldn’t shake the memory of you. There was something there, something worth pursuing. But you had said goodbye in a way that made it clear he would never see you again.
His head throbs as a tension headache spreads through his temples.
Plopping his bag down in the foyer, he promises himself to take care of it later. Right now, he just needs to find his lovely bed. His eyes search around his apartment in awe, wondering if it has ever felt this good to be home again. Maybe he can find real solace here.
He stops looking around when his eyes land on an oddly shaped package. The logo on it is familiar. Remembering suddenly that it’s the publication that hosted the gala a few weeks ago, he grows hopeful. Maybe it’s from you.
Memories from that night flash into his mind for the thousandth time. The first time he saw you, drawing your camera down from your face after sneaking pictures of him, he knew that he’d never seen a more beautiful woman. He was even more impressed by the fact that you weren’t mortified that he’d caught and teased you about photographing him. Instead, you teased him right back. It made his heart race. You made his heart race. Every part of you was perfect to him–the way you laughed and smiled, the way you looked in that dress that hugged your body just right. He loved the way you spoke. You were unafraid in a way that he’d never seen. Attractive doesn’t even begin to describe you. You were all encompassing, a force of nature that he was in awe of. Meeting you was one of the best and worst moments of his life.
Embarrassment crashes down over him. After spending time together, you had said goodbye in a way that was so final. There would be no reason for you to reach out to him by sending a package. His hope extinguishes.
Striding over to the package anyway, he scoops it up to bring it into the kitchen. He cuts through the packing tape carefully before prying the cardboard open. When it falls away, he’s met with something large and wrapped in protective paper. There’s a card taped to the wrapping, his name etched onto the front. With gentle fingers, he peels it off and tears open the envelope. The postcard that he pulls out is a photo of large white ships on stunning blue water with “Monaco” written in orange. The orange is a near perfect match to the papaya of McLaren. Flipping the postcard over, he takes in the minimal writing scribed onto the card.
Heard you’re a big fan of an ass pic. Hope you enjoy.
Your name is written next to the short message with a couple of decorative little hearts. Lando’s face lights up as he reads over the words again and again. You sent him this. His thumb traces over your name before he whispers it aloud to only himself. Desperately, he wishes to see you again. There’s a deep ache in his chest that hasn’t left since you said goodbye.
Setting the card down with care, he then begins to unwrap the gift. When he sees a stellar black and white photo of himself at the gala, he can’t help but grin. He’s turned away from the camera, his slender back on display. It must be one of the photos you took when you were joking with him about his ‘good side.’ The memory makes a flame flare up in his chest. He really hopes that you were checking him out when you snapped this particular shot. This is better than he could have ever hoped for. For a minute, he just admires the photo of himself. He looked good. You were one hell of a photographer. He didn’t realize something so simple could be so cool or done so well.
Setting the canvas down, he looks back and forth between the postcard and the photo. You’d set aside time to do this for him. The hope that he’d been trying to kill since he saw you glance over your shoulder at him before disappearing into your apartment building flares to life with fortified strength.
He’d been too afraid that night to make his feelings known and he’s been kicking himself for it ever since. A million and one ways of running after you have crossed his mind since that night. For all of his thinking and wishing, he hasn’t done anything about it. But you have. Maybe the goodbyes that passed between you weren’t as final as they once seemed. In this new light, he sees your shared farewells deteriorating. Doors once closed are starting to crack open. He’s determined to make the most of it.
He’s determined to get you.

Life as a plus-size model and being Bruce Wayne's wife often presented unique challenges. This year, you dedicated yourself to your modeling commitments for the Winter Season while actively participating in the meticulous planning and arrangements for the prestigious end-of-the-year Wayne Charity Gala. Balancing these roles was undeniably taxing, but the anticipation of quality time with your husband, free from his responsibilities as Batman, made it all worthwhile.
After flawlessly applying your makeup, your stylist carefully guided you in putting on the stunning dress while you were blindfolded. You eagerly anticipated the first glimpse of the dress, specifically chosen and tailored just for you.
"Okay, love," Salah exclaimed excitedly, "you can open your eyes now."
You gazed at your reflection in the mirror, and your mouth fell open in astonishment. The stunning silk dress draped in a luxurious emerald green hue was sleeveless, allowing the delicate stretch marks on your shoulders to peek through, a part of your beauty that you cherished and never concealed with makeup. The dress elegantly cinched at your waist, enhancing your figure and accentuating your bosom. With a playful and confident air, you kicked your leg forward through the intricate slit of the dress.
"Salah, you have outdone yourself once again," you said with genuine admiration. "Your talent is truly unparalleled."
You turned around to inspect the dress from behind.
"I don't recall seeing this exquisite piece on the runway this season. Am I the lucky one to be adorned in your remarkable prototype?"
"That's because it wasn't on the runway," Salah added. "And not a prototype."
You turned to look at him with an eyebrow raised in confusion.
"Who designed it, then?" You inquired.
"Your husband did."
"What?"
"A few months ago, he requested a custom-designed dress exclusively for you. I brought his vision to life."
A warm and tender sensation filled your heart.
"And," Salah began, " that's not the only thing he chose." His tone was mischievous.
"What do you mean?" you asked.
"He chose that sexy lace set you're wearing underneath." he grinned. "He's so going to unwrap you after the gala."
You coughed softly and forced a smile, hoping to conceal the hint of a blush creeping up your cheeks.
Bruce had just finished getting ready at his office after several lengthy meetings at Wayne Enterprises and made his way to the manor to pick you up. He couldn't help but think about the elegant dress he had carefully selected for you. Knowing it was from your favorite designer and good friend made him hope you would love it as much as he did.
He dispatched final instructions to Dick, Jason, and Damian. They had been tasked with patrolling the city until his return from the charity event.
Just take the entire night off, old man, Dick replied.
As he was getting ready to reply, he heard the door upstairs close. He instinctively slid his phone into his pocket and made his way to the base of the staircase, where the ornate wooden railing wound up to the upper floor.
Bruce found himself in rapt fascination as he watched you come down. Your gown was a work of art, embracing every curve of your figure with an effortless grace that demanded attention. A surge of longing coursed through him as he took in the sight of you.
Extending his hand, he met you at the final step, his touch both supportive and filled with quiet intensity as he assisted you.
Bruce's breath caught in his throat as he beheld you.
"Wow, you are breathtaking," he stammered, his voice betraying his unsteady awe at the sight of you.
You smiled mysteriously as you gracefully walked away from him, and then, with a slow and deliberate twirl, you revealed every inch of yourself, captivating his attention.
"I hope this dress meets your approval, Mr. Wayne." Your voice was sultry and seductive, causing a surge of arousal in Bruce.
"It more than meets my approval. You look positively stunning," he said earnestly, unable to take his eyes off you.
He gently drew you close, pulling you towards him with a soft yet firm touch. His hands found their place on your waist as you responded by tenderly wrapping your arms around his shoulders, feeling the reassuring strength in his embrace.
As he leaned in closer, his warm and tender lips made contact with your bare, delicately exposed shoulder, leaving a trail of gentle, affectionate kisses.
He whispered in your ear, "What you're wearing underneath is for my eyes only," his breath ghosting across your skin, "a treasure that belongs solely to me."
Your heart fluttered in your chest as you experienced a momentary pause. Bruce's possessive nature emanated from a profound depth of affection, conveying a wholesome desire to protect and adore you.
He stepped back, gazing into your eyes with a tender intensity.
"But I'm not entirely selfish," he murmured, his voice tinged with a hint of vulnerability. "I want the entire world to be captivated by the extraordinary beauty you possess," he confessed, his words lingering in the air. "But always remember, you belong to me, now and for all eternity." With a gentle yet firm grip on your waist, he drew you closer, his touch conveying both possession and adoration. Leaning in, he pressed his lips against yours. It was a kiss filled with passion and longing that conveyed all the emotions that Bruce had felt since he first laid eyes on you at the Art Gallery. And as you both pulled away, your eyes sparkled with adoration, your love for him evident in every gesture.
But your love for each other was not without its challenges. Your marriage was unconventional, but it didn't matter to either of you. Bruce had to balance his responsibilities as Batman and as your husband constantly. He tried to keep you at arm's length, afraid of putting you in danger, but you refused to back down. You were determined to stand by his side, no matter what, even if it meant sharing him with life as the Caped Crusader.
But you couldn't deny that the dual life made things complicated. Whenever Gotham was threatened and needed Batman's attention, he had to leave abruptly, leaving you worried and alone. You also spent countless nights alone, only seeing him in the mornings. But you never complained. You understood the importance of Bruce's mission and always remained supportive.
Each time Bruce laid eyes on you, the world seemed to fade away, leaving behind a singular focus on you. In those rare, cherished moments, he had the opportunity to give you his undivided attention, and it was as if he was experiencing the exhilaration of falling in love with you all over again.
"Something on your mind?" You asked him because you noticed that he was lost in thought.
Bruce shook away from his reveries.
"You," Bruce replied. "And how badly I want to explore every inch of your body and show you how much you mean to me," he said in a low and husky voice.
You blushed and smiled shyly at him.
"I'll be patient, Mrs. Wayne." He looked at you and smirked as if reveling in your obvious flushed face.
Bruce couldn't help but wrap his arm around your waist, pulling you closer as you both made your way to the car.
When you arrived, a relentless barrage of camera flashes greeted you. Bruce appeared at the door, extending a supportive hand to help you up and guiding you towards him. His touch was gentle yet protective as his hand settled on your waist. He made it his mission to shield you from any potential dangers, including the relentless intrusion of the paparazzi.
"Can we get photos of you both individually?" One of the photographers yelled.
Bruce got out of the way to let your photo get taken.
You struck a pose, your hand on your hip and your head held high, exuding elegance and grace. The photographer snapped away, capturing every angle. Your smile was radiant, and it was evident that you were genuinely enjoying yourself. As you gazed out into the crowd, you could see the positive reactions from those around you. People were clapping and cheering, admiring your beauty and confidence.
The photographer asked for a few more poses, and you happily obliged.
You shifted your gaze to Bruce and found him looking at you with an affectionate expression, a loving gleam in his eyes, and a gentle smile gracing his face. He had a tad look of mischief, likely undressing you in his mind. You returned the smile.
"Now you, Bruce!" One photographer yelled, interrupting the moment you were both sharing.
"Not tonight," Bruce answered and walked away with you.
Bruce kissed your forehead and wished you luck before leaving you to do your own thing while he mingled with the partners of Wayne Enterprises.
The night progressed with a series of speeches by prominent artists. When it was time for you to speak, your words echoed through the hushed hall, reminding everyone present why they were there: to give foster children a chance at a better life. The funds would go to build an independent living facility for children, particularly teenagers who could not find placements. You shared your experience as a former foster child who aged out of the system, and you vowed to change that reality for other foster kids.
The crowd responded with a chorus of applause. Bruce cheered you on and felt immense pride for all the hard work you had done.
The sophisticated guests wandered through the carefully curated art gallery, sipping fine champagne and other exquisite, high-priced liquors. As you contemplated a potential art addition to your office, your attention was drawn to a group of impeccably dressed women whispering and giggling, their envious eyes fixed on you. Feeling a pang of annoyance, you rolled your eyes and massaged your temples as their conversation reached your ears. It seemed like these events always managed to attract the same types of people: the typical wealthy individuals who generously spent money for a good cause to make themselves feel good, the ones who came with the mission to find any gossip, and those who murmured opinions on how you were an unlikely match for Bruce.
"Excuse me," you said in a warm tone and gave them a friendly smile, trying not to disrupt the moment. I couldn't help but notice that all of you have been staring at me." You uttered these words cautiously, in case someone discreetly captured the moment with their camera.
The women looked at each other, caught off guard by your courage to confront them.
"Oh, we couldn't help but notice your gorgeous dress. May I ask where you found it?" one of the women inquired, attempting to divert from their earlier discussion.
You let out a light chuckle, a knowing smile spreading across your face as you realize they are being untruthful. "Thank you for your kind words," you respond, unable to resist mentioning, "but I overheard your conversation."
The women's eyes darted anxiously, repeatedly adjusting their position to avoid meeting your gaze and showing unease.
"I couldn't help but overhear you discussing my husband, Bruce Wayne, and speculating about why he chose to be with someone like me," you said in a composed and collected tone, your voice steady despite the emotions swirling inside you.
The women were visibly shocked by your unexpected confrontation. Their eyes widened, and their expressions turned to disbelief. They stood there, motionless, struggling to find the right words.
"I'm flattered…" you began.
The women gazed at each other, their brows furrowed in confusion as they exchanged perplexed looks, trying to make sense of the situation.
"You purchased a $15,000 ticket to this charity event, but instead of supporting the cause, you made my appearance the topic of conversation," you said calmly.
One of the women cleared her throat. As they sipped their drinks, a flush of crimson spread across their faces, betraying their unease.
Bruce's strong, comforting arm encircled your waist, and as he leaned down, you felt the warmth of his lips as he placed a tender and affectionate kiss on your cheek.
"Ladies," he remarked with a warm smile. "You all look lovely."
"Thank you", the women said shyly.
"What were you all talking about, if I may?" Bruce asked.
"Love," you began. "The ladies were curious to know why you married me."
Bruce's eyes met yours with a deep, enamored gaze.
"Yes, she is undeniably beautiful, and she's currently the most sought-after model," he said, pausing to gather his thoughts. "But my wife, she's not just outwardly stunning. Her compassionate nature, selflessness, and genuine care for others demonstrate that she possesses a heart that is truly pure and kind. She's an extraordinary mother to our children. I feel truly understood and seen for who I am in her presence."
You gazed at Bruce for a long moment, your expression tender.
"I'm the luckiest man in the world." He leaned to press his lips against yours.
"Mr. Wayne," someone from afar called him.
"Excuse me, ladies." He turned to look at them. "Please enjoy the rest of your night."
Once Bruce reached a far distance, they turned to look at you.
One of the women cleared her throat nervously before speaking with a shaky voice to apologize to you.
"Me too." The second woman said.
"So am I," the other one said.
"If your apology is sincere, I will accept it as cash, credit, or check." You smiled and kept your tone neutral.
Ordinarily, you wouldn't have directly addressed the situation. With age and experience, you worked diligently to develop self-love and gratitude for your body, so the pressures of society and critical gazes lost their significance eons ago. But you felt playful tonight, so you decided to leverage fatphobia to benefit the charity.
The elegant gala was winding down, with most guests having departed. Bruce found himself at the bustling bar, conversing with a group of enthusiastic investors who had pledged generous donations to the charity.
Bruce excused himself from the gathering and found a quiet, secluded area. He reached for his phone and found a message from Dick:
We're all fine. Goons being goons. Take the damn night, old man. Seriously.
Just as he was about to send a message, the murmur of the investors nearby caught his attention. Their conversation revealed their admiring remarks about your enchanting allure, casting a shadow of unease over Bruce's thoughts.
"How long do you give it until they split?" One said.
"Trust fund kid turned CEO with a model?" one man quipped. "I give it two years at most."
"I can already imagine the tabloid headlines."
They laughed.
"I call dibs."
Bruce's ears twitched. A flicker of anger crossed his face before he schooled his expression into one of haughty indifference.
"Hey darling," you uttered sweetly and sat next to him.
Bruce maintained his silence, offering no words in response.
"Bruce," you asked, your voice tinged with worry. "Are our sons okay? Did something happen to them?"
Bruce's unease dissipated as he gazed into your widened eyes, which had been filled with concern. He was filled with an overwhelming sense of guilt for causing you distress.
"No, the boys are fine."
He carefully observed the rhythmic rise and fall of your chest, exhaling a sigh of relief.
"Then what's wrong?" You asked again.
"I'm..." he hesitated. "I'm jealous."
"What of?" you asked.
"You see those men over there at the bar?"
You nodded.
"Your presence tonight set their tongues wagging."
You chuckled. Your laughter was a sweet melody to Bruce's ears.
"I belong to you, my love." You said. "And I always will."
He gently took your hand and led you away from the crowd and into a private space, away from prying eyes and ears.
"You're intoxicating," his eyes smoldering with desire and a hint of possessiveness. "I can't bear the thought of you belonging to anyone but me."
You smiled, your gaze locking with his. You caressed his face, savoring the fiery moment.
"I'm terrified of losing you," he confessed, his voice trembling with raw emotion. "I constantly feel guilt and fear that I'm holding you back from a life of normalcy, perhaps with another man."
You were fully attentive while Bruce shared his thoughts, never interrupting him. It had taken him a long time to be vulnerable with you. Your unwavering resolve since the beginning gradually chipped away at his defenses. The once stoic, reserved man of few words, shrouded in an aura of melancholy and enigma, let his facade crumble until you saw the man behind the mask. You had become a balm to his wounds.
"Bruce," the soft hum of his name escaped your lips as you gently reached out to hold his hand. "We are anything but ordinary, and that's what I adore about us. I don't crave a conventional relationship. I want you."
Enveloping him in your embrace, your love acted as a guiding light, casting out the lingering shadows that plagued his soul.
He leaned in to place a gentle kiss on your forehead.
"Let's go home," he said.
_______
You and Bruce retreated to the privacy of the opulent Wayne Manor. As you gracefully slipped out of the designer gown, revealing your ample body, Bruce's gaze lingered on you with unabashed desire.
You made your way to him, sat on his lap, and helped remove his tie.
"you're stunning," Bruce breathed.
His hands explored every dip and curve with a reverence that made you feel worshiped.
He marveled at the feeling of your softness against his firm touch, the contrast between you igniting a fire within him.
"As much as I love this lingerie on you, I think it would look even better on the floor," Bruce whispered in your ear.
With a flick of his fingers, he undid the clasp of your bra, letting it fall open and reveal your breasts. He ran his hands over them, feeling the softness of your flesh, and then leaned down to take one of your nipples into his mouth. You let out a soft moan as he teased your nipple with his tongue.
You reached down and started to undo his pants, freeing his hard, throbbing cock. You stroked it gently, feeling it twitch in your hand as he moaned with pleasure.
You kissed Bruce, his lips soft and gentle against yours. He could feel your body responding to his touch as your breath became increasingly ragged. He felt the heat between you two building, and he broke the kiss to look into your eyes.
"You're so beautiful," he reminds you again.
Then he lays you back gently, and you look up at him with desire. You help him unbutton his shirt and take it off, revealing his toned chest, and you can't help but run your hands over it, sending shivers down his spine.
He moved down your body, his lips and tongue leaving a trail of fire in their wake. He reached to your belly, leaving trails of kisses.
'I love your body,' he murmured.
He continued down, teasing you through the fabric of your panties. You gasped, your hips bucking as he finally slipped a finger under the fabric and into your wet heat.
He slowly fingered you, his thumb rubbing circles on your clit as you moaned and writhed beneath him. You were so wet, so ready for him. He couldn't wait any longer. He hooked his fingers under the waistband of your panties and pulled them down, throwing them aside.
He climbed back up your body, his hardness pressing against your wetness. You wrapped your legs around him, pulling him closer, urging him on. With one swift thrust, he was inside you. You cried out, your nails digging into his back as he began to fuck you with long, hard strokes.
Your bodies moved together in a rhythm, your moans and gasps of pleasure filling the room. Bruce could feel an orgasm building inside him, tightening as he slammed into you again and again.
You pushed him off of you before he climaxed and climbed on top of him, straddling his hips and grinding your pelvis against his hard cock. Bruce could feel the heat radiating from your wet pussy, and he ached to be inside you.
'I love how you feel on top of me,' he murmured, his breath hot. "I love your softness, your curves, your warmth."
You reached down and guided Bruce's cock inside your wet slit. He groaned with pleasure as you sank down onto him, taking him all the way in. You began to ride him, your hips moving in slow, deliberate circles. Your hands braced on Bruce's chest. You began to ride him harder, your hips slamming down onto his cock with force. Bruce could feel himself getting close to the edge, feeling himself tighten with pleasure.
With a final, powerful thrust, Bruce came hard inside you, his cock twitching as he filled you. You collapsed onto him, your own orgasm washing over you in waves.
"I love you,' he gasped, his breath hot against your neck. 'You are my everything."
In that intimate embrace, he held you with a fervent tenderness, a sensation he never wanted to fade from memory. His heart overflowed with a desire to immortalize this profound moment: the gentle weight of your presence in his arms, the vulnerability shining in your eyes as you yielded to the depth of his affection, and the unspoken declaration of love reflected on your radiant face.
"I love you," you whispered back, your voice choked with emotion. "I love you so much."

7: A Reptile and Bird's Beloved
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Day 7 of Locke's 10-day countdown to the new year!
Prompt: Crocodile x reader x Nico Robin
o Sir/mistress kink
o Found Family
Requested by: @nocturnalrorobin
Warning: Sir Kink, Mistress Kink, Oral, Creampie, Doggy Style, Large Cock, Size Difference
A/N: So this one kinda got away from me. I was too busy writing it to notice it's almost 3,000 words. Hopefully, they're not too OOC; it's my first time writing for Crocodile and only second for Robin. I gotta go to work so I'll do a more thorough edit later today. I hope you enjoy ^-^
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You couldn’t help but let a sigh escape you as you sat curled up in the plush chair in your reading nook in the early hours of Christmas morning. Your focus is locked on the freshly fallen snow. The turret you sat in gave the perfect view of the large park across the street. It was still pure and untouched by the neighborhood children. While this was your least favorite time of year even you could admire the beauty of the thick blanket of white covering everything in sight; well almost everything. Despite the hour all the walkways, driveways, and streets had already been plowed; at this point, you expected no less for the most expensive neighborhood in the city you called home. Despite being in a relationship with two of the most powerful people in the city for the better part of the last year you still felt an air of unease from the contrast of your new life and your humble beginnings.
What had started as a sugar baby-like relationship last February had transformed into an exclusive romantic relationship between Sir Crocodile, Nico Robin, and yourself. You met at a gala where you were working as entertainment for the city’s top 1% as a harpist. It was at the gala where the two business partners struck up a deal. After both showing interest in you, they met you with a calculated proposition to satisfy both of their needs. While they had contracted you together your time with them was almost only spent on one-on-one dates, dinners, and sex. While shared dinners and dates were less common, the least common interaction between the two was during sex; both were too dominant and possessive to share you in that setting. Despite it almost being a year into the relationship you felt like you had just begun to scratch the surface of the complicated depths of their partnership.
While you still maintained an allowance from both of your partners, the contractual part of your relationship had devolved over the summer. You were now in an exclusive romantic relationship. While the change may seem subtle you were given more freedom. You were able to make more requests and the ability to veto certain decisions; along with a prenup-like contractional agreement that entitled you to a hefty severance pay at your discretion of never sharing any of the two’s personal information. While you normally rarely used your veto, you had been using it generously since Thanksgiving.
The one positive of your complex relationship with them was that they had more important things to discuss outside of you, letting your behavior slip through the cracks. You told yourself it was because you didn’t want to worry them, but on some level, you knew you were being self-destructive. You tried to rally, you really did, but it was no use. It felt like you were cursed to be plagued by the bad memories that possessed you every holiday season. You knew the feeling would be gone by the new year, you just had to rough it out for a few more days.
You snapped out of your train of thought as three hard knocks sounded from your closed bedroom door. Based on the power of the knock alone you knew it was Crocodile on the other side. Knowing he wasn’t fond of waiting you tossed your blanket aside and made the quick walk across the heated floors to your door. You paused before opening it, glancing down at your clothing. You were only clad in one of Crocodile’s undershirts and a pair of cheeky-cut panties. Robin preferred you in layered clothing, not only for the time of year but also so they could tease you by undressing you at an agonizingly slow pace. Though he’d never admit it you knew Crocodile liked to know you were comfortable. Sure, the businessman loved to bathe you in expensive clothing and jewelry in public, but in private he was most concerned with your comfort. You had easily picked up on this when, the morning after wearing lingerie for him you were gifted with an anonymously delivered package of comfy loungewear back before you moved in. You considered throwing some real clothing on before another harsh knock rang out.
You swallowed nervously as you opened the door, eyes widening at the sight of both of your partners waiting for you.
“Hey?” you said, more as a question rather than a greeting.
“Hello love,” Robin greeted, pressing a brief kiss to your forehead, before walking into your room. You quickly stepped aside, allowing Crocodile the room needed to enter your bedroom. He gave you a neutral look as he ducked under the doorway and shut the door behind him. You could feel your heart palpitate at the lack of a cigar sandwich between his lips. He was rarely without one while home. The only times you’ve seen him without one was during sex and even then, he’s smoked contently while you’re going down on him. Robin leaned against one of the posts of your bed, while Crocodile sat on the foot of your obscenely large bed; the only thing he required for your room. You brace yourself against your desk, you could feel your nerves rising in your stomach as you were met with their unwavering gazes. Crocodile crossed his arms across his chest, before addressing you.
“Do you know why we’re here, Darling?” he asked.
“No?” you responded, as you wracked your brain for possible reasons that would concern both of them. Sure, you missed a couple of outings, but nothing that would concern both of them to the extent of coming to your room in the middle of the night.
“We were chatting at the office holiday party, and we both came to the realization that neither of us has been able to take you out on a date since November,” Robin stated, filling you in. You furrowed your brow in confusion; not because you didn’t understand her statement, but rather because you’d never pictured them talking about you in their free time.
 “You’ve rejected all of our plans. No ice staking, skiing, or Christmas markets,” Crocodile started,
“You’ve only had sex with us a handful of times,” Robin added,
“And neither of us have heard you play your harp.” Crocodile stated, “To make a long story short we were wondering if there was someone else taking your precious time away from us.”
“What? No!,” you answered quickly, eyes darting from one to the other.
“Then what is it? Robin asked, in a neutral tone, “You’ve been withdrawn and on edge the whole month; do you want to end our arrangement?”
“No,” you answered quickly, “I-It’s just this time of year is really hard on me,”
Her gaze softened at your omission, while Crocodile’s stayed neutral you could tell he was listening by the slight tilt of his head.
“It just this time of year brings up a lot of old emotions. I went no contact with my mom 10 years ago; when I did have contact with her Christmas was always about her and the sacrifice she made so that I could have a ‘good’ Christmas. On top of that within my immediate family, I always felt like an ‘other’ like I’d never fit in. It was always very isolating for me.”
“So, you isolate out of habit?” Robin asked softly, walking over to you to hold your hand supportively.
“I guess?” you answered, battling your emotions to stay at bay, at least until they leave. Despite your best efforts a few stray tears did manage to fall. Before you could wipe them away, Robin gently cupped your face and brushed away your tears as they fell. Once you reached equilibrium again your hand came to cup the outside of hers.
“Not to speak for both of us, but I for one would be honored to make new happy memories with you,” Robin said, gazing down at you softly. You couldn’t help the smile that tugged at your libs.
“Would you like that darling?” Crocodile’s smooth deep voice rang out throughout your bedroom. The bed groaned as he stood up to his over 8-foot hulking stature, “We could vacation anywhere you want until the new year,”
“Perhaps somewhere tropical, to get you out of the cold,” Robin suggested.
“You’re only suggesting that to show our girl off in a bikini,” Crocodile accused, in a light tone, well as light as his tone can go.
“I don’t see why both can’t be true,” Robin replied, a quirk forming on her lips, “I also never said we wouldn’t be going to a nude beach, they’re quite popular abroad.” She finished, winking at you. Crocodile grunted in response, giving Robin a stern look.
“I’m just joking Crocodile,” Robin reassured, looking up at him, “I know how possessive you are of our girl.”
“If we did go to a nude beach there would be no tan lines,” You added, looking up at Sir Crocodile, through your eyelashes. You had learned in the past year that despite his imposing form, he was never able to resist your puppy dog eyes. The businessman grunted once again, looking away with a slight tinge of red coloring his cheekbones.
“I suppose that would be okay if done at a private residence.” He conceded. You and Robin shared a grin. Your spirit felt lighter than it had been all month.
“I’ll have my assistant send over some options for you to pick from,” he added.
“Now that that has been settled, how would you like to spend Christmas morning?” Robin asked, gazing down at you lovingly. “There are plenty of presents under the tree for you, love.”
“Could we stay here?”, you asked hesitantly.
“Of course, love, what were you thinking of doing? Or rather who were you thinking of doing?” She asked in a teasing tone and a knowing look. You could feel your face begin to warm under her gaze.
“I’m not sure,” you answered honestly, “I know you both hate sharing, but I don’t want to leave either of you out.”
Your partners had a silent conversation over your head, both of them easily towering over you.
“I suppose we could make an exception this one time,” Crocodile conceded, from behind you.
“How would you like us love?” Robin asked, gazing down at you fondly.
“I-”, you started hesitantly, both of your partner’s attentions drawn solely on you. You cleared your throat before trying again, “Can I eat you out, while Sir fucks me?”
“Are you sure baby? Today’s about you,” Robin asked.
“Please”, you asked looking up at her, trying to not seem as desperate as you felt.
“Oh? Is my little flower feeling needy?” she asked teasing, only making your face warm more, “You like making your Mistress feel good?”
“Yes,” you answered quickly. Too on edge to pretend to be coy. She smirked down at you before pulling you in for a loving kiss. A whine escaped you at the feeling of crocodile’s right arm wrapping around your middle as he braced you against him. Before you could process what was going on, a gasp escaped you as his cold metal hook sliced down the middle of your, well his, shirt. Leaving you in the bare outside of your panties. Robin took advantage of your open mouth to dominate the kiss. Crocodile then pulled whine from deep in your throat as his right hand skirted down your front finding its way into your panties. You moaned as he went from gently stroking your seam to prodding at your entrance with one of his massive fingers.
A needy whine left you as Robin pulled back, before turning her attention onto marking your neck. She listened patiently to any noises you’d release. She immediately zeroed in after you let out a gasp, before sucking on your sensitive skin. She let out a satisfied hum at the hickey now blooming on your neck before moving down to your chest. All you could do was enjoy the sensation your partners were pulling from you as you stood prone between them. You shamelessly moaned as Crocodile worked in a third finger, grinding desperately against his palm. Simultaneously Robin sucked one of your nipples into her mouth while teasing the other one. You could feel yourself rapidly approaching your limit.
“Fuck,” you moaned, “Can I cum? Please Sir,” you begged, as he worked in a fourth finger. You were both physically and emotionally at your limit; the coil in your tightening to a severe extent.
“Go ahead love,” He encouraged, “Be a good girl and make a mess,”
Nothing could stop you as you writhed between your two lovers, moaning loud enough for the whole block to hear. Your release splashed between them as you squirted all over Crocodile’s hand. He kept you braced against him as you came down from your high.
“Good girl,” Robin purred in your ear as you fell slack against Croc.
“Can I taste you please?” You asked, Robin once you had fully come back into your body, whining at the sensation of Sir easing his fingers out of you.
“Of course, love.” She answered, taking a step back, Crocodile cradled you in his arms, carrying you over to the bed, before gently placing you down in the middle. A needy whine escaped you as he peeled off your soaked underwear, tucking them into his pocket before he began to undress. The slight groan of the bed alerted you to Robin’s presence above you. You flipped over, breath catching in your throat at the sight of her bare form. You would never get tired of the beauty that is your Mistress. You shared a brief kiss before you made your way down her body, making sure to give attention to her neck, nipples, and thighs as you kissed your way down to her core. You bit your lip to contain a groan at the sight of her bare cunt. You let out a gasp, momentarily pulled away from your fixation on your Mistress as Crocodile’s large hand pressed firmly down between your shoulder blades, encouraging you to arch your back. You shared a moan with your Sir as the head of his cock breached your entrance.
He held it there for a moment, before patiently thrusting in and out as you adjusted to his massive form. Too focused on your breathing you were suddenly jerked to attention by Robin’s fingers laced through your hair. She pulled you flush against her pussy, not needing any more prompting you dove straight in. You reveled in the small gasps and moans she produced. Neither of your lovers were particularly loud during sex, that was unless they were teasing you. Crocodile let out a quiet moan as he finally bottomed out, leading you to suck particularly hard on Robin’s clit; causing her to moan out.
You whined as Crocodile’s hand skited over your lower stomach before he put light pressure slightly above your pelvis.
“You can feel that can’t you darling? You can feel how well Sir fills you up. You’re so good at taking me but, even a needy little slut like you need time to adjust.”
Your breath came out as desperate pants as you pulled away from Robin’s clit. It felt like you could feel him in the back of your throat. While both your partners relied on well-timed moves, they never seemed to have any patience when it came to you. In an instant Robin had you positioned back over her cunt. While Crocodile’s hand gripped your hip in a bruising hold as he began to fuck you, quickly building his pace. Your mind began to get hazy, Crocodile quickly building your orgasm, one thrust at a time.
You doubled down on your efforts to make Robin cum, before Croc could completely fuck you stupid. Your lips once again sealed around her clit, your fingers keeping pace as they curled, stroking her inner wall. You flicked your tongue against her clit, savoring the feeling of wetness leaking onto your face. You could feel her legs begin to shake around your head; taking this as a good sign you thrusted into her faster and faster. Before you could register the death grip she had on your fingers, she was cumming hard and fast. Her plush thighs squeezing around your head; she was past the point of worrying about your ability to breathe.
Despite your best efforts you quickly came after, to overwhelmed by the taste of Robin’s release and Crocodile’s cock rearranging your guts. You fell limp on the bed as he continued to fuck you like his personal toy. Robin shifted after coming down from her high so that your head was resting on her lap. She gently petted your hair as you began to feel overstimulated by Croc’s ministration. Luckily it only took a moment before the tell-tale sign of him cumming. You felt his hips stuttering, seconds before you were overwhelmed by his cum filling you up. You both collapsed into a pile, he moaned as you whimpered at the sensation of him easing his cock out of you; a steam of cum following after his cock.
The next half hour was a blur as your partners took care of your spent form, bathing you before dressing you and tucking you into bed curled up in between. You fell asleep content. Robin’s arm curled around your middle, and your head tucked into the hallow of Crocodile's throat.
Dating Kate Bishop Would Include...
Tumblr media
It's Hawkeye season again! Here's another hc post about Kate
Kate loves to keep things exciting and unpredictable, whether it's dragging you to an impromptu road trip or sneaking into a fancy gala just for the thrill.
She’s always up for trying something new, from weird escape rooms to quirky food spots.
She’ll definitely teach you archery—whether you’re good at it or not, she insists it’s essential.
Lucky the Pizza Dog is her ride-or-die, so you’ll need to win his approval too. He’s a sucker for treats and belly rubs, so you’re in luck!
Date nights often involve sharing pizza with Lucky sprawled across your lap.
Kate is endlessly supportive of your dreams and ambitions, but she also has a sharp wit and loves to playfully roast you (all in good fun, of course).
Kate has a strong protective streak. She’ll always have your back, whether it’s in a dangerous situation or just dealing with someone rude.
She respects your independence and knows you can handle yourself, but she’s always ready to swoop in if needed.
She has a killer sense of style and might insist on helping you “upgrade” your wardrobe if she thinks it could use a boost.
Compliment her outfits, and she’ll brush it off with a sassy comment, but deep down, she loves it.
Whether it’s a sparring session, a run through the city, or yoga to keep balance and flexibility, she’ll rope you into her fitness routines.
She makes it competitive, and while she’ll win most of the time, she secretly loves when you give her a run for her money.
She’s a sucker for bad action movies and will enthusiastically critique them with witty commentary.
Popcorn fights are not off the table during movie nights.
Kate’s natural confidence is contagious. She pushes you to step out of your comfort zone and face your fears, always cheering you on from the sidelines.
She’s not overly mushy, but her way of being romantic includes thoughtful surprises like a scavenger hunt leading to your favorite coffee shop or crafting a cheesy superhero name for you.
If you’re dating Kate, you’re bound to get roped into some of her shenanigans. Whether it’s helping her track down a stolen artifact or dealing with her chaotic social circle, life with Kate is never boring.
She’s competitive and loves to challenge you—whether it’s a board game, trivia, or who can do the most push-ups. She’ll gloat when she wins but is a gracious loser.
So you want to play an indie otome or dating sim but don't know where to start...
Like the title says, I wanted to make a rec list for those who are more interested in indie otomes but don’t necessarily know where to start! So for those who saw the latest Nintendo Direct or maybe those who’ve just always wanted to try something new, this list is for y’all. I’ve immensely enjoyed every single title (and hope y’all do too). Without further ado... here's the short list!
Changeling by @steamberrystudio (and their sci-fi spiritual successor, Gilded Shadows): Liked "Buffy," but thought it needed more Faes? Changeling is exactly the type of contemporary otome you want and needed in your life yesterday. With several wonderful young men to romance, and an intriguing plotline that references fae mythology, you'll be set!
The Rose of Segunda: Liked Bridgerton? Thought it needed an even longer gala than canon? Then RoS (and its amazing sequel, "Thorns of War") by @blackcross-taylor is the game to play! I've been impressed with how this studio weaves political intrigue into the very plot, and how it commits to the stories it creates.
Band Camp Boyfriend: Somehow, this game is both a 00's sitcom and a thriller all in one (with all the drama of a gripping telenovela in some routes). If you missed summer camp, marching band, and/or just want to know what that's like, check out this delightful title by @lovebirdgames
3 Seasons: We love a woman with melanin!! But in all seriousness, the concept of a young woman applying for a job, only to find out she's the next Spring Spirit is delightful. Note: this is a free title (but the developer @hamiltonhour accepts payment on their itch).
Magical Warrior Diamond Heart: Precure meets Sailor Moon meets the sweetest otome!! In this house we love Valerie and her zany crew. @magicalwarriordiamondheart has truly outdone themselves with each update; the common route is free, but the developer has a Patreon you can support!
Herotome: I would be amiss if I didn't mention my current favorite superhero-themed otome, where your lovely protagonist will face pivotal choices in their quest to become a hero! While only the demo is out so far (just so y'all aren't expecting the full product), developer @herotome is a delight to follow with all their updates!!
Honorable mentions: Twisted Carnival, Titan Arum (warning: both titles contain more horror than the average otome), and Arcardia Fallen
GOT MARRIED - YOO JIMIN; KARINA X FEM!READER
13. Finale; Redamancy 1.
chapters || prev. || next
notes: this is a little longer than usual and kinda terrible.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One month later...
"Weekend" by Taeyeon blasted from the Bluetooth speaker, connected to Jimin’s latest iPhone. She bounced around the room with the brightest grin on her face, dancing along to the choreography as if she were performing for a live audience.
Meanwhile, the Aespa members were in the middle of outfit selection for an upcoming event. Some of them were having their color analysis done, but none of that seemed to matter to Jimin — who was practically radiating with joy.
Recently, Yoo Jimin had been extra cheerful. Suspiciously cheerful. Perhaps it was the excitement of the event itself — after all, it was a prestigious gala, one of the biggest in South Korea, attracting A-list actors, musicians, and socialites.
Featuring top singers and K-pop groups.
Or maybe, just maybe, it had something to do with a certain lead vocalist of DayDream.
Coincidentally, it was also the middle of fall — Jang Y/N’s favorite season. And, as if by some contagious magic, Jimin seemed to have fallen in love with it too.
The atmosphere in the styling room was light, except for the growing confusion among the Aespa members, their manager, and even the stylists. It wasn’t every day they saw this version of Karina — grinning ear to ear, twirling around like a Disney princess, and looking like she had been personally blessed by the gods of serotonin.
Yizhuo, never one to hold back, chuckled as she shook her head. “Whaaaat? Why is Jimin unnie soooo... different?” she asked, though she was smiling too, amused by the sight.
Aeri shrugged, arms crossed. “Not sureee, but I think we all know what or who induced this level of happiness,” she said, watching Jimin prance around the room like she had just won the lottery.
Minjeong, who had been sitting back and watching with mild interest, simply nodded. "Good for her. I believe she deserves it."
Jimin, still in her own little world, spun around dramatically before bumping her hip against Minjeong, who merely sighed at the affectionate attack. Finally, Jimin flopped onto a chair, ready for her color analysis and styling recommendations.
As she looked at her reflection in the mirror, she saw it, her own ridiculously bright smile. It was because of Y/N. Jimin bit her lip, suppressing a giggle. How did she get this whipped?
Just thinking about Y/N made her smile like an idiot. And when she thought about all the... other things they had done, well — she nearly combusted right then and there. It made her look even prettier, almost annoyingly so.
And the realization hit her again.
I want this.
I want this over and over, with the same person, Jang Y/N.
Because she was whipped. Absolutely, stupidly, dangerously in love. Jimin sighed dreamily, but her thoughts quickly took a sharp turn.
Wait… did Y/N fall for me first?
Or did she fall for me much later? Or was it somewhere in the middle of the "We Got Married" filming?
Her expression turned from dreamy to deeply contemplative.
Without a second thought, she shot up from her seat, holding up a hand to stop the stylist behind her. “Wait —”
The room stilled for a moment as she grabbed her phone from the makeup table. She stared at it intensely, biting her lower lip.
“Do I call her and ask?” Jimin muttered to herself, tilting her head as if debating her life choices.
Her curious expression was adorably dumb.
The way she looked so intensely focused made her own reflection appear ridiculously serious. She pursed her lips. No, but really... do I call her?
The stylist, who had been mid-motion in showing Jimin a set of outfit options on a tablet, blinked at her in confusion. "Who is it...?" she asked, slightly baffled by the sudden shift in conversation.
Aeri, sensing that Jimin was about to expose her stupid cheese cat tendencies to an innocent bystander, immediately stepped in. Placing both hands on Jimin’s shoulders, she gave her a firm but amused shake.
Jimin, still determined, pouted. "But what if —"
"Don’t," Aeri repeated firmly, giving her a little shake before sighing. "But if you really wanna call her, just do it. Don’t make it weird."
Jimin huffed, crossing her arms. "I wouldn’t make it weird." Blinked. Blinked. Looking at Aeri with her big eyes.
"You’re already making it weird." Minjeong deadpanned from the couch without even looking up from her phone.
Yizhuo, who had been sipping on her smoothie, smirked. "Yeah, unnie, I think you should just text her. Or better yet, show up at her dorm unannounced like a real crazy girlfriend." The maknae suggested playfully.
Jimin gasped dramatically. "I am not a crazy girlfriend!" She retorted and placed a hand on her chest with her mouth agape.
Aeri sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. “I mean, don’t be you about it.” Aeri emphasized Yoo Jimin's weirdness.
Jimin, pouting, dramatically pressed a hand to her chest again. “Excuse me? I am a perfectly normal person in love —”
Aeri, deadpan, simply replied, “Last week you called Y/N at 2 AM to tell her you saw two cats sitting side by side and it reminded you of your relationship." Ended with a gesture that simply proved her point.
Jimin huffed. “That was a very deep and meaningful moment —”
“JUST CALL HER!” Aeri groaned, lightly shaking Jimin’s shoulders before letting her go.
Jimin grinned, unlocking her phone as she muttered under her breath, “She totally fell for me first," confidently with a smirk on her face.
And with that, the room returned to its usual chaos — except now, everyone was waiting to see if Jimin would actually go through with the call or chicken out at the last second.
Either way, this gala was about to be very interesting.
Aespa Post-Photoshoot Interview
The photoshoot had just wrapped up, and the Aespa members were now seated on plush stools in front of a sleek white backdrop. They were still dressed in their elegant photoshoot outfits — each of them styled differently to reflect their personalities.
A staff member handed each of them a mic, and the interviewer, a friendly-looking woman in a crisp dark blue blazer, smiled as she glanced at her cue cards.
“Alright, let’s start with Winter.”
Winter, sitting with her legs crossed and hands neatly folded on her lap, raised an eyebrow with a tiny cute smile.
“Winter, what was your most recent favorite meal?”
Winter’s smirk widened. “Oh, I had tteokbokki with cheese last night, and it was amazing.” She placed a hand over her chest dramatically.
The interviewer chuckled. “That sounds painful but worth it.”
“It was,” Winter confirmed, sighing but then she cutely smiled at the interviewer as well.
“Fashion-wise, since you all just finished a photoshoot, how did you feel about the outfits today?”
Winter leaned back slightly, glancing down at her ensemble — a sleek black and white suit tailored perfectly to her frame. “Honestly? I loved mine. It made me feel like a CEO.” She adjusted her collar. “Like I should be sitting in a high-rise office making important calls.”
Giselle nodded her head, agreeing. “You do look like you’re about to fire someone.” She told Winter as she looked at Winter's outfit.
Winter smirked, lifting an imaginary phone to her ear. “Hello? Yeah, you’re done.” She acted it out while chuckling softly.
The members laughed, and the interviewer smiled. “I can see it! Alright, last question — who was the last person you called?”
Winter blinked and looked down, deep in thought. “Oh… right. My food delivery guy.” There was no hesitation in her answer.
There was a brief pause before Ningning giggled. “You didn’t even have to think that hard about it?” She turned her head to the right to look at Winter.
Winter shrugged. “He’s very important to me.”
The interviewer turned to Giselle, who was sitting comfortably with one arm resting on the back of her chair.
“Giselle, which artist have you been listening to recently?”
Giselle tilted her head thoughtfully before responding. “Lately, I’ve been in an R&B and hip-hop mood. Brent Faiyaz, SZA, and some classic Drake have been on repeat.” She gestured to the camera.
Ningning leaned in with interest. “What era of Drake, though? That says a lot about a person.”
Giselle smirked. “Take Care era, obviously.” There was a proud smile on Giselle's face.
The members all nodded in approval and they all looked back at the interviewer, getting ready for the next questions.
“One TV series you’d recommend watching?”
Giselle lit up, suddenly leaning forward. “Oh! Brooklyn Nine-Nine! It’s my comfort show.” She grinned before straightening her posture. “Actually, hold on —”
Without warning, Giselle started singing, perfectly mimicking the famous Brooklyn Nine-Nine cold open scene.
"Tell me whyyyyy —"
Winter immediately picked up on it, covering her mouth in shock before jumping in.
"Ain’t nothin’ but a heartache!"
The interviewer was wiping away tears from laughter. “That was the best answer to this question I’ve ever gotten.” Still grinning, she moved on. “How do you like your bread?”
Giselle blinked before laughing. “Okay, that’s the most random question so far.” She sucked in her breath deeply and she thought about the question for a second.
The interviewer smiled. “But very important.”
Giselle nodded, playing along. “Alright, well, I like my bread like my music—soft on the inside, a little toasted, and preferably served with something good on top.”
Winter gave her a slow clap. “Poetic.” While nodding her head.
“Thank you, thank you,” Giselle said, bowing dramatically.
The interviewer turned to Ningning, who was still giggling from Giselle’s antics.
“Ningning, what are your three favorite colors?”
Ningning straightened up, flipping her hair back. “Red, black, and…” she paused for effect, “...sparkly.”
The interviewer blinked. “Uh… sparkly?”
“Yes,” Ningning said with conviction. “Sparkly is a color in my heart.” And she looked so proud of it too.
“A variety show you’d like to guest in?”
Ningning smirked mischievously. “Single’s Inferno.” Oh Ningning, you're a menace.
The interviewer’s eyebrows lifted. “Oh?” She tilted her head at the answer.
“Only for me to choose no one in the end,” Ningning added, then laughed.
The members lost it as the interviewer clapped in amusement.
“What do you like to do in your free time?”
Ningning stretched her arms. “Oh, that’s easy. Sleep. Nap. Dream. Hibernate.” Ningning had her priority straight.
Winter clapped. “A woman of consistency.”
“Thank you,” Ningning said proudly.
Finally, the interviewer turned to Karina, who had been listening with a soft smile, her posture straight but relaxed.
“Karina, your recent favorite thing?”
Karina’s eyes lit up. “Flowers! Recently, someone gave me a bouquet of baby’s breath, daisies, and carnations.” She answered the question enthusiastically with a smile on her face.
The interviewer raised a brow. “That sounds special,” she added on a teasing tone in her voice, “Romantic too."
Karina chuckled, a little bashful. “Yeah… and that person is going to teach me how to frame the flowers once they dry out.” She looked particularly excited mentioning the flowers.
The members exchanged knowing glances but didn’t say anything.
“Your favorite song at the moment?”
Karina hesitated slightly before smiling. “Love, Maybe.” She exhaled softly. “It’s from my favorite K-drama, and someone special shared it with me.” Karina smiled at the thought of it.
The interviewer tilted her head. “That makes it even more meaningful.”
Karina nodded. “It really does.” She replied while tapping her nails on her knee.
“What was the last video you watched on YouTube?”
Karina blinked. “Fancams.” She immediately made a nonchalant expression to feign innocence and to not attract that much attention.
The interviewer smiled. “Whose?” Curious at Karina's simple answer to the question.
Karina cleared her throat. “Just… you know, K-pop girl group members.” It was hard playing pretend but it can be fun.
Giselle leaned forward. “Which members?” She playfully asked Karina with a teasing tone.
Karina avoided eye contact. “Does it matter?” She sat up straight and looked straight at the camera.
Ningning gasped. “You’re down bad.” Ningning joined in with the teasing while laughing.
Karina groaned as the members laughed.
Lesson 61: “Echoes of Change”
Preparations for the Grand Gala
The story begins with you and the brothers preparing for a grand event in the Devildom—the Infernal Gala, a highly anticipated celebration hosted by Diavolo to showcase unity and strength among the three realms. The brothers are busy with their individual tasks, and you help them throughout the day, making sure none of them are slacking off and checking the quality of their work.
Morning with Mammon
You find Mammon frantically trying to pick an outfit in his room, clothes scattered everywhere. He groans as he holds up a jacket, glaring at it like it personally offended him.
Mammon: “This stupid thing doesn’t fit right! What if I don’t look good enough? Diavolo’ll never let me hear the end of it!”
You: “You’re overthinking it, Mammon. You look great in anything.”
You pick up a sleek black jacket with gold trim from the pile and hold it up to him.
You: “Here, try this one. It suits you.”
Mammon grumbles but puts it on. When he turns to the mirror, his expression softens.
Mammon: “Huh. Guess it ain’t too bad… But y’know, it’s only ‘cause you picked it. You’ve got good taste.”
He pauses, scratching the back of his neck as he glances at you.
Mammon: “I dunno what I’d do without ya. Don’t tell the others, but… you’re my good luck charm, so stick close, alright?”
Afternoon with Leviathan
Levi is in his room, staring nervously at a stack of invitation cards. You peek in and see him pacing.
You: “Levi, what’s wrong?”
Leviathan: “It’s the Gala! There’s gonna be so many people there. What if I mess up? What if someone tries to talk to me and I freeze up?!”
You gently take his hands, grounding him.
You: “You’ll do great, Levi. And I’ll be there if you need me. We’re a team, remember?”
Levi calms down a little, a faint blush creeping up his cheeks.
Leviathan: “Y-Yeah, I guess you’re right. I mean, with you around, I don’t have to worry as much. You’re like my Player Two in this crazy multiplayer game called life.”
He hesitates, then smiles shyly.
Leviathan: “Thanks. I mean it. You’re, like… my favorite rare find.”
Library with Satan
Satan is in the library, scanning a shelf filled with ancient tomes. He looks up when you enter, a small smile playing on his lips.
Satan: “Perfect timing. I was looking for this.”
He hands you a book bound in emerald green, the title in golden script: "The Legends of the Infernal Gala."
Satan: “I thought you might like to know more about the Gala’s history. It’s fascinating, really—did you know it started as a peace treaty celebration?”
You sit together, flipping through the pages. At one point, your fingers brush, and Satan pauses.
Satan: “You always surprise me. You’re curious, thoughtful, and unafraid to stand by us—even when things get complicated.”
He leans closer, his voice softer.
Satan: “I hope you know how much that means to me."
Dressing Room with Asmodeus
Asmo is in his room, surrounded by a dizzying array of outfits. He twirls in front of the mirror, striking a pose.
Asmodeus: “Tell me, which one screams ‘absolutely irresistible’? This one, or…”
He switches to another outfit, beaming at you.
You: “They’re both amazing, Asmo. You always look stunning.”
Asmodeus: (grinning) “Oh, you always know just what to say. But you know what? I think I’ll wear something that complements you. After all, we’ll be the center of attention together.”
He steps closer, brushing a strand of hair from your face.
Asmodeus: “You have this way of making me feel… special. Like I don’t need to try so hard, because I’m enough just as I am. Thank you for that."
Kitchen with Beelzebub
Beel is in the kitchen, preparing snacks for the event. You help him arrange platters of food, the smell of freshly baked bread filling the air.
Beelzebub: “Thanks for helping. I usually just eat everything, but it feels nice to make something for others.”
As you finish, Beel offers you a piece of chocolate from the tray, his expression soft.
Beelzebub: “You’re always looking out for us. It makes me want to do the same for you.”
He smiles, his usual straightforward honesty shining through.
Beelzebub: “You’re like family to me… but also more than that. I’m glad you’re here.”
Attic with Belphegor
Belphie is lying on a pile of blankets in the attic, staring at the ceiling. You join him, and he shifts to make room.
Belphegor: “The Gala’s gonna be exhausting. Too many people, too much noise. But at least you’ll be there.”
He closes his eyes, his voice soft.
Belphegor: “You’re the only one who makes all this bearable, you know. Stay with me a while. Just you and me, away from everything else.”
You rest beside him, and for a moment, the world feels quiet.
Study with Lucifer
Lucifer is in his study, reviewing event schedules and security measures. He looks up as you enter, his expression softening.
Lucifer: “Ah, I was just going over the final details. It’s a relief to see you—you have a calming effect, even on someone like me.”
You share a quiet moment, the crackling of the fireplace filling the silence. Lucifer pours you a glass of Demonus, his movements elegant.
Lucifer: “The Infernal Gala represents unity, strength, and peace. But for me… it’s also a reminder of how far we’ve come.”
He gazes at you, his eyes filled with warmth.
Lucifer: “You’ve been a part of that journey. More than you realize.”
The calm shatteres
The next morning, you are in the gardens of the House of Lamentation, enjoying a rare moment of peace. The sky is a deep, rich purple, with faint stars twinkling above. Beelzebub joins you, carrying a tray of snacks.
Beelzebub: “You’ve been quiet today. Something on your mind?”
You: (smiling softly) “Not really. Just thinking about how calm everything feels right now. It’s… nice.”
Beelzebub: (sitting beside you) “Yeah. Feels like it’s been a while since things were this peaceful. Lucifer hasn’t yelled at anyone today, and Mammon hasn’t set anything on fire… yet.”
You both share a laugh, but before the moment can last, a faint tremor shakes the ground. Beel jumps to his feet.
Beelzebub: “What was that?”
A ripple of energy passes through the garden, and several flowers wilt instantly. The air feels charged, heavy. You feel a faint pulse from your pact mark, though you don’t fully understand it yet.
You and Beel rush inside the House of Lamentation, where chaos has already begun. Furniture is floating, magical items are malfunctioning, and the brothers are in disarray.
Mammon: (running around) “Somebody fix this! My wallet turned into a bat and flew off! That’s my life savings in there!”
Leviathan: (clutching his D.D.D.) “Do you know how many hours of gameplay I just lost?! This is worse than the Great Reset of Akuzon Prime!”
Lucifer: (trying to remain composed) “Everyone, calm down. Panicking will accomplish nothing.”
Belphegor: (yawning) “Wake me when this is over. Or don’t. I’m fine either way.”
You notice your pact mark faintly glowing whenever the chaos intensifies. Asmodeus steps in, looking alarmed.
Asmodeus: “Is it just me, or does the energy in the house feel… weird? It’s like something’s out of sync.”
Before anyone can respond, the chandelier shatters with a loud crash. Lucifer’s patience snaps.
Lucifer: “Enough! Everyone, to the Demon Lord’s Castle—now. Diavolo needs to hear about this immediately.”
Emergency Meeting with Diavolo
The group arrives at the Demon Lord’s Castle. Diavolo greets you all with a worried expression, his usual jovial demeanor replaced by a more serious air. Barbatos stands quietly by his side, his gaze sharp and observant.
Diavolo: “Ah, you’ve arrived. I trust you’ve noticed the disturbances, then?”
Lucifer: “Noticed is an understatement. The House of Lamentation is in complete disarray. What’s causing this?”
Diavolo’s expression tightens, and he motions for you all to take a seat.
Diavolo: “It’s more than just your house, Lucifer. The magical ley lines that run through the Devildom are experiencing unusual fluctuations. Spells are failing, spells are overloading… and the environment itself is becoming unstable.”
Diavolo remains silent for a short while before speaking again.
Diavolo: "Remember when a few months ago the Devildom moon begun moving closer to us? And how MC stopped it with the help of (name of the brother you chose in lesson 60)? I think it might be somehow related to all this.
Barbatos: (nodding gravely) “We’ve been monitoring the situation for the past few weeks, but the source remains elusive. The ley lines should remain stable, but we are seeing powerful surges in energy that we cannot explain.”
Simeon: (calmly interjecting) “It’s a troubling situation, indeed. I’ve been sensing something off as well, but I can’t make sense of it.”
Solomon: (looking up from his scrolls) “The balance between the realms is delicate. It’s entirely possible this disturbance has something to do with the convergence of magical energies—perhaps even beyond our realm’s control.”
Luke: (clutching his little angel staff nervously) “So... we’re all in danger?”
Mephistopheles: (snickering from the corner) “Well, that depends on what you call ‘danger.’ There’s always a way to spin these things to our favor, you know.”
Raphael: (stoically) “We need to investigate this matter thoroughly. If there’s a threat, we’ll need to handle it swiftly, for the sake of everyone’s safety.”
Thirteen: (suddenly appearing with a slight chuckle) “It’s always so serious when you guys talk like this. How about we enjoy the chaos a little bit?”
The group’s attention is drawn back to Diavolo, who remains focused despite the tension.
Diavolo: “We’ve heard your concerns. But I must ask, how does this all relate to the Infernal Gala? If these disturbances continue, it could be catastrophic.”
Lucifer: “The Gala is already under heavy scrutiny. If the realm’s stability is at risk, Diavolo, this could be a catastrophic blow to the reputation of the Devildom.”
Asmodeus: “Oh, I can’t imagine the disaster. The Gala’s atmosphere would be ruined if the magical energies continue to fluctuate like this. People will notice, and chaos would break out if they suspect anything is wrong.”
Beelzebub: (his voice low and serious) “If things continue like this, there’s a real danger of even the food and drinks being affected. Imagine the mess if everything starts malfunctioning at the event.”
Lucifer: “Exactly. And with all the high-profile guests we’re expecting… We must act swiftly.”
Diavolo stands up, his usual warmth replaced by a rare intensity.
Diavolo: “For now, I ask all of you to stay vigilant. If you notice anything unusual—anything at all—report it immediately. The Gala must go off without a hitch, for the sake of maintaining peace and stability. But we must also prepare for the possibility that something more sinister is at play.”
Barbatos: (calmly) “We will continue investigating, but please, if you feel anything strange—if there’s any oddity you experience—don’t hesitate to tell us. The more information we have, the better.”
Lucifer: (looking directly at you) “You, especially. I’m sure you’ve felt it, too. These disturbances seem… connected to you.”
The room falls silent again as all eyes shift toward you. You feel a weight settling on your shoulders, the pressure building.
Diavolo: (smiling reassuringly) “You’ve done well so far. But now, we must prepare for whatever comes next. The Gala is crucial, but our first priority must be understanding the root cause of these events. If there’s a connection between you and this instability… we’ll need to address it quickly.”
As you nod in response, a sense of foreboding fills the air. The once-bustling preparations for the Gala seem like a distant memory now, overshadowed by the uncertainty surrounding the disruptions.
A talk with Solomon
After the emergency meeting, you wander through the halls of the House of Lamentation, the weight of the situation pressing on you. The magical disturbances, the instability in the Devildom... you feel like you're on the edge of something bigger, but you can't quite grasp it.
A soft voice interrupts your thoughts.
Solomon: "You're still awake, huh? I figured you might be here."
You turn and see Solomon leaning against the doorframe, his usual playful expression replaced by one of concern. He steps into the hallway, his gaze never leaving you.
You: “I don’t understand any of this… It feels like everything’s connected, but I don’t know how or why.”
Solomon walks up to you, his footsteps slow and deliberate. He looks at you with a knowing look, as though he’s been waiting for this conversation.
Solomon: “I can see why you’re confused. The fluctuations... the disruptions in the ley lines, they’re not random. They’re a result of your presence here.”
You: (frowning) “My presence?”
Solomon: (nodding) “It’s complicated. There’s something about your connection to the brothers, your dual pacts, that’s causing the instability. It’s as if the power between you and them is... too much for the realms to handle.”
You feel a jolt of realization. The dual pacts. You hadn’t thought about the significance of them, but it makes sense now. Solomon's words seem to echo in your mind, each one a small revelation.
You: “So... you think the dual pacts are the reason this is happening?”
Solomon hesitates for a moment, then nods, his eyes serious.
Solomon: “I’m beginning to suspect that’s the case. The way your power interacts with theirs... it’s creating more energy than the ley lines can accommodate. It’s like a pressure building up, and when too much energy is focused in one place, the balance of the realms starts to break down.”
You swallow, trying to process it all. Your mind races through everything you’ve experienced—the strange pull of the pact mark, the disruptions, the growing tension. It all leads back to the pacts.
You: “But why now? Why is this only happening now?”
Solomon: (with a sigh) “It didn't start now. Actually it's been going on for a while now. Remember how the moon was getting progressively closer and closer a few months ago? I suspect that's also due to your magic. But for all I know the dual pacts were never meant to be this powerful. They’re an anomaly.”
You: “So, everything that’s happening... it’s my fault?”
Solomon: (softly) “Not your fault. But your presence, your bond with the brothers—it’s a key factor. I should’ve been more cautious. I knew the pacts were risky, but I didn’t expect something like this would happen.”
You feel your heart race as you try to understand the magnitude of what Solomon is telling you. The chaos, the disruptions... you feel like you’re at the center of it all, and it’s terrifying.
You: “How do we fix this?”
Solomon takes a step closer, his gaze softening. His hand gently rests on your shoulder, and you feel a comforting warmth from his touch.
Solomon: “We’ll figure it out. Together. The brothers... they’re linked to this too, and we’ll need their help. But we can’t do it alone. The dual pacts are too unpredictable.”
For a moment, you both stand in silence, the weight of his words settling in. The chaos, the stakes... it feels like everything is changing too fast. Yet, with Solomon’s presence, there’s a sense of calm. You find comfort in his understanding.
You: “I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
Solomon smiles, but there’s a warmth in his eyes that makes your heart flutter, though he doesn't say anything for a moment. He simply pulls you into a gentle embrace, holding you close, offering a silent promise.
Solomon: “You’ll never have to find out.”
You lean into his chest, the tension in your body slowly melting away. His heartbeat is steady against your ear, and for the briefest moment, the world outside feels a little more bearable.
Solomon: “We’ll fix this. We’ll make sure the Gala goes off without a hitch, and we’ll find the cause of all this. But until then... just know that I’m here.”
You look up at him, your voice quiet but firm.
You: “Thank you, Solomon. I don’t know how to explain it, but I feel like I’m... not alone in this anymore.”
Solomon’s smile deepens, and he leans in, brushing a soft kiss against your forehead.
Solomon: “You’re never alone, MC. Not with me by your side.”
The Pact’s Secret Emerges
Later that evening, while the brothers are asleep, you are drawn to the library by an inexplicable force. You find an old book glowing faintly on the shelf and open it. The pages are filled with ancient symbols you can’t understand. Suddenly, a familiar voice interrupts you.
Barbatos: (appearing silently behind you) “Curious, isn’t it? That book is one of the oldest records in the castle. It documents the nature of pacts and their potential… consequences.”
You jump in surprise, quickly closing the book.
You: “Barbatos! You scared me. I didn’t mean to—”
Barbatos: (smiling slightly) “You needn’t apologize. It’s no coincidence that you were drawn to this book.”
Barbatos steps closer, his gaze calm but piercing.
Barbatos: “Tell me, since your return from the past, have you noticed anything… unusual? A change in your magic, perhaps? Or a resonance with the brothers’ powers?”
You stiffen.
You: “What do you mean by ‘return from the past’? How do you know about that?”
Barbatos: (tilting his head slightly) “I am the steward of time. There are few events that escape my notice.”
Your eyes widen. You clutch the book tightly, unsure of how to respond.
You: “I… I haven’t told anyone except Solomon. How much do you know?”
Barbatos: “Enough to understand that your journey was no mere coincidence. It was necessary, though its ripple effects are only now beginning to manifest.”
You: “Ripple effects…? Are you saying all of this—the disturbances in the Devildom—are my fault?”
Barbatos: (softly) “Fault is a strong word. Responsibility, perhaps. But do not misunderstand—your presence here is essential. You hold the key to stabilizing the realm.”
Barbatos’ gaze sharpens as he steps closer, his voice lowering to a near whisper.
Barbatos: “However, I must warn you: secrets have a way of surfacing when the time is right. The truth will not remain hidden forever—not from the brothers, nor from yourself.”
He gestures toward the glowing book.
Barbatos: “Keep this between us for now. But be vigilant. The bonds you share with the brothers are deeper and more intricate than even you realize.”
After the encounter, Barbatos is in his room, standing over a magical map of the Devildom. Glowing lines represent the ley lines, which are flickering and unstable. He traces his fingers over the map, frowning as he notices a disturbing pattern.
Barbatos: (to himself) “The fluctuations are growing stronger, converging toward a single point. If this trajectory continues…”
He pauses, his expression darkening.
Barbatos: “…even the combined power of the brothers may not be enough to stop what’s coming.”
The map reveals the convergence point glowing ominously—a location deep within the Devildom that remains unidentified.
