Honestly, I made that joke about Van’s ancient desktop, but it probably works better than new computers. And it made me think: god, Van must HATE planned obsolescence. Stuff that’s built to die? Stuff that’s built to fall apart in a matter of years just to force you to buy more? For a person whose whole deal is gripping tight to the past, to old technology that still works perfectly fine, to the idea of survival threaded through everything from the stories she tells to the machines she rents out? Yeah, dude. No wonder she hates her cell phone. Not only does it force the illusion of connection without actually granting intimacy, but it’s doomed from the minute you take the thing out of the box. For Van, the very idea has got to be offensive.
#yellowjackets#yellowjackets spoilers#yj meta#van palmer#like you grow up in the 90s in a home that probably doesn’t have a high tax bracket situation#you’re gonna learn to value things for their longevity to begin with#but then you get stranded in the woods with maybe two suitcases you gotta make last for two years?#repurposing and recycling every little thing just to keep warm and alive?#yeah the whole of Van’s adult life is a nostalgia bubble for a host of reasons#but one is almost definitely that the 2021 reality of fast fashion and temporary tech must feel heinous. antithetical to survival.#better to buy old jeans that’ll last 50 years and wear boots passed down from your grandfather#and stock your shelves with machines you know how to fix and tapes you know how to wind back together if they get eaten#Van couldn’t escape the woods in her heart so she just built her entire aesthetic around leaning into the old like it was by choice#right down to living in the ‘attic’ above the place that sustains her existence#I cannot imagine her with a brand new MacBook she knows she’ll have to replace in three years#of course she’s got a desktop from the mid-90s

[🎧 now playing: cologne by beabadobee]
you were sitting on the long couch that was set right by the tv with riki, tucked into a single throw blanket that covered the both of you. it was an insanely busy week for you in the middle of november. the fall semester’s end had been coming closer and finals week was approaching, and you needed to get your work done. sitting atop your lap was your macbook with around a million tabs opened for the dozens of assignments you had to submit.
the click sounds your keyboard made were heard alongside the movie that was playing on the tv. with riki’s head rested on your shoulder while his eyes were fixed onto the scenes in the movie you two were watching, he couldn’t help but notice on how you were no longer watching the movie, but completing the lengthy tasks you had to do.
riki turned his head towards your laptop screen as his eyes skimmed through the data you’ve written down. “y/n, what’s that? i thought we were supposed to be watching?” he asked you. with your eyes and mind concentrated on the paper you were trying to get done, you respond to riki after a few seconds (you sucked at multitasking and didn’t even notice he was asking you something sooo) “i’mmm…. just trying to get this done. this will be really quick, i promise.” you said. riki watched you as you did your work, but it definitely wasn’t quick.
he got bored and shifted himself closer to your body, still waiting for you to finish. he wrapped his arms around your torso as he slid his hands under the white long-sleeved top you had on. with riki snuggled onto you, he couldn’t help but bring his face closer to your neck, and as he did, he smelt a familiar scent right behind your ear. the sweet notes of cherry blossom, mimosa, and mandarin lingered through the air he was breathing in. riki then placed a kiss on your neck, he just couldn’t get enough. “ki~ hold onnn. please let me finish this paper baby~” you said, playfully pushing his chest back. he found his way back onto your neck, planting kisses all over it. his pink, plump lips trailed down onto your collarbone, sucking on your soft skin, leaving traces and spots of red, purple, and somehow yellow marks everywhere.
“babyy, i need to-“ you tried to say before a subtle moan escaped your lips, with riki sucking the same spot repeatedly. you continue with your words “i need to get extra marks on this assignment. let me do my work first ki, then we can- wait shit-“ you then tossed your head back and let out a moan once more. “the only marks you’re getting are the ones on your neck, y/n” riki says. he gives you a peck on the lips before he continued to kiss your neck. he placed his hand on your nape, using the other one to shut your laptop down, pushing it aside.
this wasn’t a first, it definitely wasn’t. every time you did your school work, errands, household chores, or at least tried to, he’d always find his way into bringing your focus onto him.
you stood up from the couch and discarded the throw blanket that covered the two of you in an attempt to get riki off of you. “kiii~” you said in a whiny tone, still trying to push him off. you tried walking, but he just couldn’t let go of your touch, your voice, your smell, of you. he followed you from behind to the kitchen, where you tried heading in escape of him. his hands were around your torso with his chest pressed against your back. he brought his head onto your shoulder, taking in your scent.
you walked towards one of the cabinets, going on your tip-toes to grab a cup, but as you were opening the cabinet door, riki shuts it back. he then swiftly turns you around, where your eyes locked with his. you jumped up on the counter. now face to face with riki, you kissed his lips which were previously all over you, caressing his cheek and pushing aside the strands of hair that sat on his face. he pulled you in closer as the kiss grew messy. your hands were now holding his shoulders from behind, locking you two into the position you were in while you wrapped your legs around his slender torso.
“still want to do that paper, baby?”
“i’d do you instead.”

some quick info: ↳ this is specifically for the screencapping method. i use mplayer osx extended to get my caps, but there are a few other programs you can use as well. i’ll specifically be going over mplayer here. ↳ i’m using ps 24.4.1 on a 2020 m1 macbook air
[tysm to @kyubinz for looking this over and adding some things ily]
☆ feel free to send me an ask/message with any questions you have! ☆
「 setup 」
1. finding videos
one big thing to remember is that the overall file size of your video will impact the quality of your gif. the larger, the better. i almost never use anything below 1080p, and try to use 2160p whenever i can. 4k video downloader is the program i use for downloading videos from youtube, it’s free to install and works great! because of how large some files can be, i always store any media on my hard drive. i highly recommend using one if you plan to keep lots of files on hand.
.mkv files are best, but .mp4 works fine as well (.mkv files are usually bigger aka better quality).
2. getting your screencaps
after downloading mplayer, go to the top bar and click file > open. open the video you’ll be screencapping.
you can either drag the little time indicator or using the arrow keys on your keyboard to move to the spot you want to capture. the > key can also be used to move forward frame by frame. to start capping, pause the video and press shift + cmnd (ctrl if you’re on windows) + s to take a screencap. i usually just hold it down until i’ve gotten all the screencaps i need.
by default, screencaps go right to desktop. you can set up a folder for them to go to automatically by going to settings > general and then selecting a spot in the menu under “interface”, but i just let them go to desktop and then sort them into individual folders so they’re easier for me to find while i’m giffing. in general, i try to stay under 80 frames so my gifs fit into tumblr’s 10mb image size limit.
3. importing screencaps into photoshop
to import your caps into ps, go to file > scripts > load files into stack. this window should open:
click browse, and navigate to the folder with your caps in it. select all of the caps you want to import, and then click open.
click ok to create a file with your caps, and then wait until it’s finished loading your caps into the layers tab. once they’re loaded in, this is what your screen should look like:
(if you aren’t seeing the timeline at the bottom of your screen, go up to the top bar and go to window > timeline)
click create frame animation, then go to the hamburger menu at the top right of the timeline and select make frames from layers. once your frames have loaded in, select the same menu again and click reverse frames. play through your gif to make sure everything looks good.
if you were to save your gif at the speed it’s set at now, it would be way too fast. to fix this, you have to set the frame delay. do this by selecting all your frames in the timeline using shift click, and then clicking (on any frame) where it says “0 sec”. select other from the menu that comes up, and you should get this popup:
the general rule of thumb for gif frame delay is 0.05 seconds. there are some cases — certain animated movies or video games, for example — where other delays are best, but for the most part, 0.05 is what you want to use (0.05 can slightly slow gifs, and sometimes using 0.04 better matches the clip's original timing. this is really a "train your eyes" thing, and picking the best delay gets easier as you gif for longer). you can set this by typing the number into the text box and then hitting the ok button or enter on your keyboard.
at this point, i’d go ahead and save your file. you can go to file > save in the top bar, or just hit cmd/ctrl + s on your keyboard.
「 making your gif 」
1. sizing
after your frames are ready, the next thing is to size your gif. to crop your gif, press c on your keyboard to open the cropping tool. white borders will show up around your gif.
before doing anything, i would suggest making sure “delete cropped pixels” is unchecked. this will allow you to drag your gif around later if you want to reposition. you can find this option at the top of your screen. drag the borders on either side until you have the area you want selected. mine looks like this:
once you’re happy with your selection, hit enter on your keyboard to finalize it.
the tumblr image guidelines require gifs to be 540px across (here’s a post detailing this). to change your gif’s image size, go to image > image size in the top bar. you’ll get this popup:
instead of setting the width right to 540, i’ll be setting it to 544, and then trimming down the edges using canvas size. this makes the quality just a little better, and also prevents any weird borders being made around your gif on the off chance photoshop decides to add them. this isn’t necessary at all, you can absolutely size right to 540, but i just like doing this. if you choose to do this, open canvas size right after you set image size (image > canvas size in the top bar), and trim your width down to 540 and your height down a few pixels as well.
2. sharpening & other filters
sharpening is essential for good-quality gifs. the first step to this is converting our timeline from frame animation to a video timeline. select this little icon in the bottom left of your screen:
this is what your timeline will look like now:
you can use the little slider with mountains on either side to change the width of your frames in the timeline for easier access when editing. now that we’ve got all this set up, we can sharpen! i use this action pack to sharpen my gifs in addition to a few of my own settings (here is a video on how to install actions into photoshop). go to window > action in the top bar if you aren’t seeing the action tab.
i’ll be using the sharper action from the pack. to use an action, select it from the list and press the little play button at the bottom of the panel to apply it.
in addition to this, i usually also add unsharp mask at 50% amount with a 0.5px radius:
there are a few other filters than can be helpful when giffing:
a. add/reduce noise noise (aka grain) can be added with “add noise”. go to filter > noise > add noise.
these are the settings i usually use, but the amount depends on the gif (i don't ever go over 3.5 for the most part):
(if you want a grain effect but moving noise doesn't work for the gif, you can also add a grain overlay and then mess with blending mode and layer opacity until it looks how you want)
reduce noise can be used to remove some of the pre-existing grain on a clip. go to filter > noise > reduce noise. here are my settings:
leaving reduce noise on its own at 100% is a bit too much, so double click this icon and change the opacity (i usually do around 45):
b. gaussian blur if your clip is a bit pixelated, gaussian blur can help with smoothing it out a bit. go to filter > blur > gaussian blur. my settings are 1 pixel radius w ~20% opacity (this changes based on the gif).
3. coloring
time to color! i want you to keep in mind during this section that everyone likes different colorings, and this is just my process! please don’t feel pressured to follow exactly what i’m doing, the best way to find what you like is to just mess around and experiment!
i like to start off with lighting adjustments: brightness/contrast, levels, exposure, and curves.
a. brightness/contrast i usually start out with this first, just because brightening the gif right away helps me start thinking about how i want to color! here are my settings:
b. levels/curves levels and curves can either be used interchangeably or together. i usually use levels to adjust lighting and curves to adjust color values, but i’ll go over using both for lighting as well as using curves for adjusting color values.
for both of these adjustments, i use the eyedropper tools to pick out white and black points. for levels, the top eyedropper tool to the left of the graph is used to pick out a black point. i do this first. use the tool to pick a spot on your gif that you want to be the base for black values. for me, that’s the shadow inside rey’s hood. the bottom eyedropper tool picks white point. use the tool to pick a spot on your gif that you want to be the base for white values. i chose the outside of rey’s hood. make sure you’re doing this on a new levels adjustment layer.
now, on to curves. you can either use the same eyedropper method or manipulate the graph directly. using the eyedropper is the same as levels, so i’ll just go over graph manipulation.
shade lightens as you move to the right along the x-axis of the graph — black is the far left, white is the far right, middle is the midtones. generally, i don’t work with midtones.
i’m going to use levels for this gif’s lighting, and curves to adjust color values. here’s how to do that:
curves can be used to adjust the amount of a certain color in different lighting areas of a gif. for example, i can specifically decrease the amount of green in the gif’s whites. to edit these values, select the rgb drop-down menu and adjust them one at a time. here are my final graphs:
c. exposure this one’s pretty straightforward. the exposure slider adjust general exposure. the offset slider adjusts how dark your dark points are, and gamma correction can be used to lighten/darken scenes as a whole. here’s my settings:
d. color balance color balance is used to adjust overall tint of a clip. this is in general pretty simple, but i do want to point out that using the shadow and highlights tabs in addition to just the midtones can really help. here’s my settings:
e. channel mixer channel mixer is one of my favorite tools in ps, especially for coloring scenes that are a pain in the ass without it. to avoid taking up too much space, here’s a great tutorial covering channel mixer. here’s my settings:
[at this point, i’m noticing my gif is still a bit darker than i’d like it, so i’m adding just a bit of brightness/contrast to fix it. there’s also a patch of blue over one of rey’s eyes, so i’ve used a hue/saturation layer to get rid of that bit and masked it to her eye. i’m not going to go over masking here, but there are lots of great tutorials out there!]
f. selective color selective color can be used to adjust the amount of specific colors within a color. for example, if i were to go into the red tab and take out cyans, the reds would become more red. if i were to add yellows, the reds would become more orange, etc etc. this can be especially good for color manipulation. for this gif, i’d like to make the background more blue, so i’m going to use selective color to do this. here’s my settings:
g. color lookup color lookup uses 3dlut files to remap gif colors (it’s a preset — think instagram filter or something similar). i don’t always use these, but when i do, i almost never leave them at 100% opacity. color lookup is great for giving gifs a film-type look if you want to do that, it’s got loads of different options. here’s my settings (adjustment layer is set to 20% opacity):
atp i’m pretty much done with coloring! i usually end up doing a few extra little lighting adjustments at the end. for this gif, i added some brightness/contrast at +8. i’ve also noticed that my gif’s looking a bit grainy, so i’ve added some noise to lean into it. this is usually the way i fix it, but you can definitely do reduce noise/gaussian blur as well if you don’t want a grainy look.
here’s my fully colored gif + a process gif (fast images warning):
「 saving gifs 」
1. frame rate
one thing you may have noticed is that my gif is looking a bit choppy. photoshop has a tendency to mess with frame delay after gifs are converted to video timeline. here’s how to fix that.
select all of your layers and convert them to a smart object (right click > convert to smart object). next, click on the hamburger menu in the top right of the timeline and go to convert frames > flatten frames into clips. now we need to change the timeline from video timeline to frame animation. click the little 3 boxes symbol in the bottom left corner of the timeline:
go to the hamburger menu again and select make frames (this is the same one you used earlier), then go through your frames and delete any duplicates. the first frame usually needs to be deleted specifically. once you’ve done that, set the frame delay back to 0.05 the way you did earlier.
2. exporting
once you’re happy with how your gif looks, go to file > export > save for web (legacy).
these are my export settings, but feel free to experiment with the menus where i have selective and diffusion selected, different settings work best for each gif. in general, most gifmakers only use selective/adaptive and diffusion/pattern because they generally work the best for tumblr. before saving, make sure your looping option is set to forever:
gif size for tumblr has a 10mb limit. my gif is under this, so i don’t need to make any changes, but if yours is over, you can either delete some frames from the beginning/end of your gif and/or adjust the height of the gif (width needs to stay 540px so your gif doesn’t get stretched/compressed on tumblr, but height is fair game).
here's my final gif!
happy giffing, and please don’t hesitate to send me any questions you have! ♡

My trusty gtx1080 has finally been showing its age. Not that it isn't fast enough, but that its starting to crash frequently unless I underclock it. I've been contemplating building a new PC for the first time in about 8 years, and the chip shortage seems to be tapering off, for all but the highest end consumer chips.
...but wouldn't you know it? I just managed to by an RTX4090! At MRSP no less! (fuck u scalpers!) I even have my wife's approval! I probably won't have a complete build until after the holidays, but its exciting to be putting a new war machine together.
This was all inspired by finding out that Valve forked off a version of Wine they're calling Proton that makes most Steam games work on common linux distros without any real tweaking. I tried it and it worked great out of the box for Deep Rock Galactic.
Steam games were pretty much the last thing tying me to windows, but I can't underclock my gpu (without great effort) in ubuntu and I was crashing every 20 minutes or so at stock clocks. If I'm going to have to actually upgrade instead of plodding along with the hacky quick fix, might as well go big if I'm not going to upgrade again for most of a decade. I tend to use my hardware until it physically falls apart, like that poor macbook I had in highschool that melted its plastic feet off rendering 3d fractal animations at 100% CUP usage for 5 months straight...

Okay so I finally got Sims 2 UC working on my MacBook!!! 🎉 It looks sooo good like the graphics are actually decent ngl (though terrain and edges are a bit blurry lol)
BUT like, I was all hyped thinking maybe the dreaded pink flashing wouldn't happen on Mac?? Like Macs are different, right??? NOPE 😭 Pink flashing still came for me like "hey bestie remember me??"
I don't know why this happens on such modern computers. Like my MacBook is FAST and honestly Sims 4 runs flawlessly on it but sims 2? Nah it’s like “I’m gonna ruin your life with cursed textures lol”
Anyway I still love this game so much but omg EA please fix your ancient masterpiece (even though they never will 💀)

I have a macbook too 😭💔 I'm going to use playcover and just use the mirror sharing option on my TV so I get a big screen 🙏
HI IM SORRY FOR THE LATE REPLY
im assuming you're talking about wuthering waves right??? i'm gonna use playcover too (tho i still dont fully understand how to get an ipa file for wuthering waves or what that even is), but idk about the mirror sharing option 😭
i watched jjk on my mac and used the mirror sharing so i can watch it on a bigger screen but i had two problems:
dulled brightness. idk why, but the brightness was a bit low on the tv compared to on my mac. i managed to fix it, but i can't remember how
LAGGING AND FREEZES 💀 this was the worrrrrst, every time there was a fight scene or any scene where there were fast animations, the tv screen lagged or froze and there's a good chance the same can happen if you're playing a fighting game like wuwa 💀

The Ecto Moog Vanilla Experience
Updated for 1.20.4
I’m the unwilling user of a MacBook Air, and I’m also someone with strong (picky) preferences for ✨vibes✨, and so to play Minecraft casually on my laptop, I’ve had to jump through several hoops to achieve what I would consider a good vanilla experience.
At this point though, I’ve put probably too much time and effort into it, and so I thought to justify that I’d make a beginner's guide to all the mods, resource packs and game options I use, as of February 2024 (1.20.4). 👇
I will attach a hyperlink to any resources I mention :)
Mods
Ok so to start off, yes, I technically I don't actually play true vanilla Minecraft, but the mods I have installed are all client-side, and for the purpose of improving or optimising the vanilla experience. You can find me and a list of (almost) all these mods on Modrinth.
Fabric & Modrinth (Intro)
To mod the game, I use Fabric. I know that Forge has had some… drama? recently, and I’m gonna be honest I’ve never tried Quilt (I will at some point), but Fabric is super widespread, tons of mods use it so it works just fine for me 😁. When I’m looking for mods, I really prefer to use Modrinth, just because I can follow everything and it’s a really well designed website. (I also tried their launcher but I think it needs a little work?)
As part of Fabric, I do have the Fabric API in my mods folder.
Performance & Optimisation
I use these mods are to make the game run better. Minecraft is notorious for being very poorly optimised, and these mods have been made by a ton of very talented people to fix that.
Sodium
JellySquid’s Sodium is the hot optimisation mod right now for rendering and graphical fixes. It doesn’t have the cosmetic features of Optifine, like dynamic lighting or zoom, but it’s super compatible and gives me great performance. Combined with my other mods, at a 15 chunk render distance in the overworld, I averaged around 50 fps. For a MacBook, that's not bad at all.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/39f24ce1cbfef860528e37f9bac4e495/709df043c4ffec19-c0/s540x810/d86a49987741ef783ad1b11ea5f3481199286b55.jpg)
To accompany Sodium I've also got Indium, an add-on that provides support for the Fabric Rendering API, which is required for mods that use advanced rendering effects, and Reese's Sodium Options, which adds a better options screen for Sodium’s video settings- it looks better basically.
Lithium
Lithium is a general purpose optimisation mod that improves systems like game physics, mob AI, block ticking, etc without changing vanilla mechanics.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/c85f25042830722230c69f00a897ab98/709df043c4ffec19-7c/s540x810/6e304f08a059f61085ce8f027b7d7d79a46f0af2.jpg)
Starlight
Starlight rewrites the entire lighting engine to fix performance and errors. Made for bigger servers, but helpful for client users. I think this is in place of Phosphor.
Dynamic FPS
Dynamic FPS can reduce the game’s FPS when it’s just running in the background- useful for a laptop.
Some more specific optimisation mods:
Entity Culling avoids rendering entities that aren’t directly in your field of view, which is much more thorough than the vanilla approach.
Ferrite Core reduces the memory usage of Minecraft in a ton of different ways.
Immediately Fast optimises how things like entities, particles, text, GUI are rendered, by using “a custom buffer implementation which batches draw calls and uploads data to the GPU in a more efficient way.”
I'm not a programmer so I can’t really explain what Krypton does, something to do with networking stacks, but I know it optimises.. things, lowers server CPU usage and reduces memory usage. I’m barely following along with a lot of these mods.
Fabric Language Kotlin is a dependancy that enables the use of the Kotlin programming language for other Fabric mods. To be honest, I’ve forgotten what mod needs this but I don’t want to delete it, just in case.
Experience
These mods aren’t necessarily about performance, but they do enhance the game in a vanilla kind of way, in my opinion. Some of these could be up for debate but I do think they compliment the base game.
Lamb Dynamic Lights
Lamb Dynamic Lights is a simple but thorough dynamic lighting mod that adds light-emitting handheld items, dropped items and entities.
Zoomify
Zoomify is a super configurable zoom mod. Maybe this is just because of Optifine’s influence, but i think they should add zoom to the base game. At least I feel cool using it 😎
To make Zoomify work, you’ll need, YetAnotherConfigLib, a config library that fills in a couple of holes.
Better F3
Better F3… makes the F3 menu better. There’s the option to customise literally everything, you can colour code, shift and delete parts of the menu depending on your use case, it’s less insane and looks a whole lot better.
MiniHUD
MiniHUD allows you to display customisable F3 lines on the main screen, along with several client-side overlay renderers. I just use it for the mini-F3, and I have my FPS, coords and cardinal direction in the top left corner. It’s honestly more helpful than you’d assume.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/ff55499309bb8624840b2d894a01d2c0/709df043c4ffec19-8f/s500x750/fff42dd95423e025c95b8990d1a7001f9ababc4b.jpg)
MiniHUD requires MaLiLib (masa’s Litemod Library) which is a library mod for mods made by masa and others.
ModMenu
ModMenu adds an in-game menu where you can view the mods you’re running and access their details and setting menus.
Shulker Box Tool Tip
Shulker Box Tool Tip adds a preview of the inside of a Shulker box when it’s in your inventory.
Some more specific experience mods:
Bobby is a rendering mod that allows the player to render more chunks than a server’s fixed distance, by loading in previously generated chunks saved client-side. You can also render them straight from a singleplayer world file. To be honest, I don’t often run into this issue but it’s helpful to have lol.
Cloth Config API adds a config screen for mods in-game.
Iris is a mod that makes shaders super easy, and compatible with Sodium. It's down here because I don’t use shaders often, but it’s essential if you do.
A lot of these mods are subject to change as I find better or updated alternatives, and I'm always on the lookout for more 😁
Resource Packs
For vanilla Minecraft, I actually only use one resource pack, but if you’re familiar with Vanilla Tweaks, you’ll understand why this deserves its own category.
This resource pack allows you to pick which small changes you want to add, and a lot of them are really cool. Some of my favourite tweaks are:
Dark UI
Quieter Nether Portals
Circular Sun and Moon
Numbered Hotbar
Golden Crown
The other tweaks I have are: Classic Minecraft Logo, Lower Warped Nylium, Lower Snow, Lower Crimson Nylium, Lower Podzol, Lower Paths, Lower Grass, Wither Hearts, Ping Color Indicator, Borderless Glass, Lower Fire, Lower Shield, Transparent Pumpkin, Noteblock Banners, Quieter Minecarts, Variated Unpolished Stones, Variated, Terracotta, Variated Stone, Variated Logs, Variated Mushroom Blocks, Variated End Stone, Variated Gravel, Variated Mycelium, Variated Planks, Variated Bricks, Random Moss Rotation, Variated Cobblestone, Variated Grass, Random Coarse Dirt Rotation, Variated Dirt, Darker Dark Oak Leaves, Shorter Tall Grass, Circle Log Tops, Twinkling Stars, Accurate Spyglass, Unique Dyes, Animated Campfire Item, Red Iron Golem Flowers, Brown Leather, Warm Glow, Horizontal Nuggets, Different Stems, Variated Bookshelves, Connected Bookshelves.
Game Options
For the sake of the full experience, here's the important game options:
The End 😇
And that's the whole thing! A lot of this could change at any moment based on my play style, but I think this is a really well rounded experience for vanilla Minecraft. Let me know if there's anything else I should try 😁

Expert MacBook Repairs Done Right Every Time
A MacBook is more than just a laptop it’s a powerful tool for work, creativity, and entertainment. However, like any sophisticated device, it can develop issues over time. Whether it’s a cracked screen, a failing battery, or software glitches, getting your MacBook repaired by expert technicians ensures it gets back to peak performance. If you're looking for expert MacBook repairs done right every time, this guide will help you understand the importance of professional repair services, common MacBook issues, and how to choose the best repair center.
Why Trust Experts for Your MacBook Repair?
Many people try DIY fixes or trust unqualified technicians, only to end up with more damage or expensive replacements. Choosing a professional repair service has several advantages:
Certified and Skilled Technicians
MacBooks have delicate components that require specialized skills. Certified technicians have the experience and tools to diagnose and fix problems correctly the first time.
Genuine Parts for Lasting Performance
Using original Apple parts or high-quality replacements ensures that your MacBook remains reliable and functions like new. Fake or low-quality parts can cause further damage.
Fast and Efficient Repairs
Experts can quickly diagnose and repair issues, often providing same-day or 24-hour service for common problems. This means minimal downtime for you.
Data Security and Protection
Your MacBook holds valuable data, and professional repair services ensure its safety while fixing your device. Some even offer data recovery services if your MacBook has serious issues.
Warranty and Customer Support
Reliable repair centers provide warranties on parts and labor, giving you peace of mind that your MacBook is in safe hands.
Common MacBook Issues and Expert Fixes
MacBooks are known for their durability, but they are still prone to issues. Here are some common MacBook problems and how experts can fix them:
Cracked or Broken Screen
A MacBook screen can crack due to accidental drops or pressure. If your screen is:
Cracked or shattered
Displaying flickering lines or black spots
Completely unresponsive
Experts will replace it with a high-quality screen that restores clarity and touch functionality.
Battery Draining Too Fast or Not Charging
If your MacBook battery dies quickly, won’t charge, or shuts down unexpectedly, it might need a battery replacement. A new battery improves performance and extends your device's lifespan.
Keyboard or Trackpad Not Working
MacBook keyboards are prone to sticky, unresponsive, or malfunctioning keys, especially in models with the butterfly keyboard. Liquid spills, dust, or wear and tear can also damage the trackpad. Experts will:
Replace faulty keyboards or individual keys
Fix trackpad malfunctions and clean dust buildup
MacBook Overheating and Fan Noise
If your MacBook overheats, shuts down randomly, or has loud fan noise, it could be due to:
Dust blocking the cooling system
Old thermal paste on the CPU/GPU
A failing fan
Technicians will clean the cooling system, replace the thermal paste, and check for hardware issues to prevent long-term damage.
Water or Liquid Damage
Accidentally spilled water or coffee on your MacBook? Turn it off immediately and seek professional repair. Experts will:
Dry and clean internal components
Replace damaged parts
Perform a full system diagnostic
Slow Performance or macOS Issues
If your MacBook is freezing, crashing, or running slowly, it may need:
A macOS reinstall or upgrade
Storage cleanup or SSD replacement
RAM upgrade for better performance
Experts ensure your MacBook runs smoothly with optimized software and upgraded hardware.
How to Choose the Best MacBook Repair Service
Not all repair services are created equal. Here’s what to look for when choosing an expert MacBook repair center:
1. Check Their Reputation
Look for customer reviews on Google, Yelp, or social media to see real experiences from past customers. A high rating and positive feedback mean trustworthy service.
2. Transparent Pricing
A reliable repair shop provides clear pricing with no hidden costs. Avoid places that charge unreasonably low prices, as they may use low-quality parts.
3. Fast Turnaround Time
Check how long repairs take. A professional service should fix most issues within 24–48 hours. Some even offer same-day repairs for common problems.
4. Warranty on Repairs
A trustworthy repair center offers a warranty on parts and labor. This shows they stand behind their work and ensures peace of mind for you.
5. Customer Support
A good repair shop provides after-service support, answering your questions and helping with future maintenance.
What to Do Before Taking Your MacBook for Repair
Before handing over your MacBook for repair, take these steps:
Backup Your Data – Use Time Machine or iCloud to prevent data loss. Sign Out of Accounts – Log out of iCloud, iMessage, and Apple ID if needed. Note Down the Issue – Describe the problem clearly to help technicians diagnose it faster. Remove Accessories – Take off cases, USB drives, and external devices.
Get Your MacBook Fixed by Experts
A faulty MacBook can be frustrating, but expert repairs ensure it gets fixed correctly every time. From cracked screens to battery issues, overheating, and software problems, skilled technicians diagnose and repair efficiently, so you don’t have to worry.
If you need fast, reliable, and expert MacBook repair services, choose a professional repair center that offers genuine parts, skilled technicians, and warranty-backed services. With expert care, your MacBook will be as good as new, ready to handle your daily tasks smoothly.

more reflections on new computer (MSI Delta 15)
The speakers are not particularly powerful. My macbook air from 2013 with only one functioning speaker has better sound. I think if this were my only computer, this might be more annoying, but since this is one of 6 functioning computers that I own, I can let that go. Like they're not .... bad. They're just not super great either. Then again, this seems to be a continual theme with every windows PC I've ever owned lol (this is my 7th windows pc since 2005) Somehow all my PCs seem to die after 5-6 years (excepting my last one which made it 9.5 years whooo!) and my macs are still chugging along after 10+ years (oldest mac turned 14 this year and I finally had to replace the battery. Daily driver mac turned 11)
This computer is stupid fast and that's really nice. You know having a really fast computer is something that you give up on when you live in old computer land. So like, y'all my macbook pro 2012 is not much slower than this one (owing to the SSD and the 16GB of ram that I gave it) but it still has a longer boot time than this thing. This is making me wonder if they sell NVMe to SATA adapters so I could install a 1TB NVMe in the macbook (I have a 1tb SATA SSD on board right now). The boot time on this new PC is like 10 whole seconds which slaps.
So much less heat out of this computer compared to my last one. The reviewers of this computer complaining about the heat literally did not have my 9.5 year old PC y'all. They haven't played video games on a 14 year old mac and lived to tell the tale. The heat on the bottom of the 2009 macbook is scorching to the touch after 25 minutes in on civ v, as is the heat out of the charger. The charger on this computer is still room temp 2.5 hours into a video game. That's nice.
Also, holy shit y'all just found out that I can pick WHATEVER color I want for the backlight in the keyboard. This is a pointless but very fun feature that I LOVE.
The colors are decent in the general system and good in game. They're no adobe colorspace in PS -- my mac definitely has brighter coloring in adobe software.
once again so glad that explorer patcher exists because it has made the windows explorer/start menu experience tolerable in windows 11 which the native system does not offer. if you have windows 11 and hate the windows 11 start menu explorer patcher is for you. google it and download it. (note that there is currently a bug in it where if you have it use the windows 10 taskbar that the task viewer/gestures in the system break. Still you are able to use the start menu fix, which in my mind is the best most useful feature of the patch.

The ghost in the corner of the screen
I've been doing my best to avoid thinking about a certain person in any way for months, but I was reminded of him today in a way I hadn't accounted for at all.
Months ago, I'd blocked him on twitter, deleted his work from my computer, and all the rest in an effort to move on from the time in our lives that we were friends. It had been successful, we're now at almost a year without any contact. Today, I booted up Soulseek (A peer-to-peer file sharing client with a focus on music) to download several albums by musician Ryuichi Sakamoto, who had passed away recently. But as I went about searching through the list of available files, I was presented with a little notification in the corner of my screen, telling me that he had logged in – this gave me pause: What the hell was I supposed to do with this information? I had set up the reminder years ago so that I'd be able to download tracks from him when he was online, but now it had become a weirdly detached, accidentally voyeuristic moment where I had gleamed the tiniest of tiniest pieces of intimate information on current activity.
The nature of this notification is set up is inherently one-way: totally un-reciprocal, extremely basic. The other user has no clue that you've created the alert – Soulseek doesn't even have a "friends" system, just an index of users. This is an aspect that I enjoy about Soulseek. In its quasi-illegal status as a file-sharing client used by thousands of users to share music, its design and features haven't been updated in a major way for almost a decade, resisting the web's slow tide of social network feature creep.
For a brief, brief moment, I had become an unwilling spy into the intimate world of a person I had done my best to scrub from my life. Reflexively, my brain conjured a picture of him on his MacBook, file-sharing client open, perched on the edge of his bed in his room with the curtains closed maybe, or sat at his desk by a window overlooking the street beneath his building. What was the weather even like in Chicago right now? For some reason, I decided it ought to be rainy. I was reminded of how many memories of him live on in my brain, images fixed in time from when we were friends. I was an invisible onlooker in a place I'd never been, staring through a hole opened by an accidental connection between our two computers.
The timing of the notification was totally typical for him – Oversleeping deep into the day, then logging into soulseek first thing out of bed. You could set a watch by it. When we had known each-other, I'd leave soulseek open so that, separated by a transatlantic timezone gap, I'd receive a little unwitting indicator of when he had woken up. I was aware that if he knew, he'd have found it a little obsessive, but since it was a one-way setup, he had no way to know.
My brain flashed different, conflicting impulses in the moments after the notification appeared. Maybe I could open his user directory and take a look through his shared files. What was he listening to nowadays? He used to send me music excitedly, imploring me to share my thoughts on each track he sent every day. Now, I was faced with an opportunity to recreating that connection, one of my favourite parts of our friendship, in a form that required no knowledge or consent on his part. If I did that, I felt like I would be interfacing with a strange kind of unconscious version of him, playing out a little puppet-string version of our everyday friendship where my co-conspirator was a list of files on his hard drive. But doing so would have felt like some kind of twisted violation, like forming a hollow replica of him with which to act out my imaginary version of friendship without his knowledge.
Instead, I moved quickly to remove the traces of him from my client. I clicked through each menu as fast as I could, so that I wouldn't hesitate and consider the temptation to lurk on his profile. Almost faster than I could think, I had clicked on his username, opened a drop-down menu, and selected the option to remove him from my list of bookmarked users. The traces of his ghost on my screen had been deleted as easily as deleting any other thing. There was only a blank space where his username had briefly been displayed.
I took a moment to think about how strange it was, what an odd reminder of a person I'd been trying to forget. It seems like when you try to push someone out of your life, these fingerprints of the space they used to fill leave themselves smudged across your screen, and no matter how much you try to wall them off, their presence seeps through in un-anticipatable ways, and you're forced momentarily to imagine them with the same shade of care with which you viewed them as a friend. Maybe he too had been presented with some moment in which he had to reckon with artefacts of our split. Where should he put the book I sent him among the others on his shelf? Did he still hold on to all of the drawings of mine that he had saved to his computer? Or did he have to go through carefully and pick my traces from his life one-by-one, just as I had erased his? Did he find himself accidentally imagining me, creating his own version of where I was now, cued by some minuscule leftover from our past?
It doesn't matter. Spending more time inventing useless questions is just a use of time that moves you nowhere. I downloaded Sakamoto's album 'Cendre' from 2007, which he created in collaboration with german musician Christian Fennesz. It was their second release as a pair, the two of them subsequently trading remixes and collaborating for years and years after. It's a slow, hauntingly beatiful album that pairs Fennesz's distorted pads with Sakamoto's impressionistic piano improvisation. When Sakamoto passed away, Fennesz posted this short message to his website:
RIP Ryuichi Sakamoto. One of the greatest ever. I am grateful for the friendship and the music we made.
The cover of the album is a grainy photo of empty bedroom. The photographer must have been sat at a weird angle within the room, crouched behind the bed. On the left, a mirror tilts down, pointing towards the floor at the foot of the bed, as if avoiding eye-contact. On the right of the image, an open door leads to an empty bathroom, where another mirror is hung on the wall in the back. Through that mirror is the reflection of the room behind the photographer, and at the very back is a tiny sliver of a window looking out on a rainy blue-hour sky.
