But really, what huge goals were there to fulfill? She'd been betrothed to Prince Owen of the Western Kingdom since the day she was born and her only goal in life seemed to be working towards becoming a wife and mother one day. But between painting and pottery lessons, going to balls, and spending her time at the stables, Roslyn meets Francesca Lindone of a neighboring Kingdom and quickly finds herself falling in love. When Roslyn eventually stops hearing from Frankie, she fears the worst. That is until a carrier Pigeon starts bringing letters to her. Suddenly, hope is alive again. That is until the curse hits. When it does, Roslyn and her parents are traveling through Aurora's Kingdom and put in stasis along with the remaining people in the Enchanted Forest. When they awake, her parents are soon killed by the returning Ogres and suddenly, Roslyn finds herself completely alone and feeling useless. She takes up trying to patch up the injured and learning how to make medicine. When Snow White and her daughter Emma return to the Enchanted Forest, Roslyn finds herself hoping to see Frankie once more.

Like, you know "The Darkest Part of the Forrest" by Holly Black? LOVED the book, but in reading it the first time, there was a moment I could have sworn she was gonna imply a semi-incestuous throuple between the sibling protags and the Fae prince....... and then it resolved in two pretty normie couples, and I was like, well, fine, it is YA after all. Then Holly Black released an adult book, so NOW can we see the freaky taboo stuff? And her adult book is boring as all get out.
Oh, Jesus Christ. I think I’ve only read Holly Black’s first book, and what I remember of that is so thoroughly what-was-trending-in-steampunk-nerdspace-in-2007 I kind of dread to look back and find out how they’ve developed. It evokes the same feeling as when teenagers I’m old enough to have theoretically given birth to started calling y2k fashion ‘retro.’

Entry 122: Screw America I Guess
Xenologue 21 Hoshidan Festival of Bonds and Xenologue 22 Nohrian Festival of Bonds
So, these next chapters are a bit of a problem, because they were never released outside of Japan. Meaning that not only can I not play them, but I can’t even read the scripts, because there are no official scripts. All I have is things on the wiki, which might not be reliable.
These seem to be a follow-up to Awakening’s scramble maps, where the army visits a place and we get cgs of them in special outfits. Midori, Dwyer, Forrst, Shigure, Ophelia, and Nina all wear kimonos in the Hoshidan one. Forrest wears a girl's kimono and Nina has two right feet. All of the children have black hair because their mothers (father in Shigure's case) aren't set in stone. The Nohrian festival is Halloween themed and features Xander as a pirate, Subaki as a prince, Leo as a vampire, Camilla as a succubus, Oboro as a gothic lolita, and Setsuna as a mummy. I assume, like the Awakening scramble chapters, they were chosen by a poll.
These chapters come with new Supports between the children and their mothers and between first generation units without Supports respectively. Unfortunately, I can’t read them. There were various people who attempted to translate these Supports, but I don’t have a verifiable list of what Supports were in the Japanese version, so I don’t know how complete any of these translations are. Plus, they are by the very nature of translation different from what we would have got with an official translation. Also, this blog is focused on the English version we got, not the Japanese version.
I am very obviously making excuses to not do these conversations. The thing is, I’m really sick of Fate’s writing and Supports. It has slowly grinded me down over time. I fell off this blog for months, because I am sick of bad Supports, so I don’t want to read dozens more that I don’t have to.
Support: Ignatius/Nina
C: Nina hornily spies on Ignatius talking to another guy. He spots her and she freaks out because she's bad with guys. Ignatius asks her to not follow him.
B: Nina spies on two cute boys. Ignatius shows up and watches the cute boys pickpocket a woman. Ignatius assumes she's trying to fight thievery and they team up to take out the thieves.
A: Nina tries to thank Ignatius, but can't say it. Ignatius realizes she struggles to talk to people. Nina says that Ignatius is kind and reliable and, while not daydream material, she can stand being his friend, if he tries to look cute more often.
S: Ignatius says he wants to be more than friends and calls Nina adorable. Nina starts daydreaming about him and tries to set Ignatius up with another guy.
Review: Pretty good. Nina being awkward around people makes her more tolerable and her accidentally stopping a robbery is amusing.
Support: Forrest/Shigure
C: Shigure uses oil paints instead of watercolors, which is a style from a century ago. Forrest says he studies the fashion in old portraits and cuts his hair based on one portrait.
B: Shigure and Forrest decide to prank their friends by painting a pretty lady, except the lady is actually Forrest!
A: Their friends recognize Forrest in the painting, because he is the only beauty in the army. Take that, Charlotte!
Review: This one is so stupid but I kinda like it. Shigure and Forrest are the nicest friendliest guys in the army, so their idea of a prank is ridiculously lame. It's endearing.
Support: Percy/Velouria
C: Velouria asks if Percy gets tired of hanging out with Ace all the time. Percy says he's always happy around ace. Velouria explains she's more comfortable when alone.
B: Velouria stares at an abandoned bird nest because she wonders if it smells like pretty birds. Percy gets it for her using Ace. Velouria offers him the first sniff.
A: Percy and Ace go to a lake. Velouria wants to go along because they're close friends of hers and she doesn't have many. Vekouria says she'll dig for fossils on the beach. S: Percy gives Velouria a nest from a rooftop. Velouria invites Percy to go treasure hunting with her. Percy says he doubts there'll be any treasure better than her.
Review: A nice friendly Support with a clear beginning, middle, and end.
Support: Midori/Ophelia
C: Ophelia does fortune-telling. Midori calls it fake and accuses Ophelia of not wanting to face reality.
B: Midori continues to mock Ophelia's fortune telling saying Ophelia just says stuff she wants to hear. Ophelia counters that this is to build confidence. Ophelia says that's a good thing and offers to tell Midori's fortune. Midori refuses, because she has enough problems in the present, with all the sick people she has to take care of.
A: Midori has a breakdown over all the wounded and dying. Ophelia tells her her destiny: to smile, surrounded by those she've healed. Ophelia says this dream will come true if Ophelia keeps working hard. Ophelia admits she does fortune telling to keep going in a world filled with pain.
Review: Goddamn that was a good Support! I take back like 5% of my complaints about Supports. Midori is a deep character haunted by the stresses of war. She calls out Ophelia for being immature, but Ophelia shows that her coping mechanism isn’t all bad.

FORREST canon
Forrest is the son of Leo, a royal of the kingdom of Nohr, and a prince. Along with many of the children of his father’s comrades, he was isolated in a Deeprealm for several years and grew up inside. He has a strong bond with his aunt, Elise, and his main love is for fashion. Nearly all of his outfits are ones he makes himself, and he dresses very femininely. In addition, his mannerisms are rather feminine. Despite being odd by everyone else’s standards, Forrest is a kind-hearted young man who loves his people and just wants to help others; fittingly enough, he does so by working as a healer. One day he will inherit his father’s weapon, a powerful magical tome, but he feels he isn’t ready for the responsibility yet. At the moment he’s content to heal people and focus on making clothing.
Tumblr media
LIBRA canon
Libra is a war monk of the country Ylisse, and is, by all accounts, hard to figure out even though he puts people at ease. After a childhood of neglect and abuse, he was eventually violently abandoned by his parents and found refuge in an orphanage. Shortly thereafter he became a priest, wishing to atone for the dark he feels inside himself and to strive to be a good person. He is kind and stoic, and nobody knows what he’s thinking at the best of times unless they get to know him well. As a result of his parents’ treatment, he’s developed a fear of being touched and tends to be uncomfortable with physical contact since he thinks it will lead to him being hurt. Currently, he runs an orphanage of his own in the name of his goddess, Naga, to help children avoid the pain he’s experienced.
Tumblr media
LIMSTELLA canon
A powerful magic user known as a Morph or a Living Construct, Limstella was created along with several others by a dark mage named Nergal. Ostensibly the strongest of Nergal’s Morphs, Limstella has been asserted by their own master to have achieved “perfect power and perfect beauty”. Though they regard most other people with a cold arrogance, they’re also incredibly polite. Unlike the other Morphs, they lack any kind of true sadism, and seek only to harvest quintessence for Nergal’s plans. They are the most docile of his creations despite being the most powerful, acting mainly on his orders rather than anything else. They claim to simply not possess the capacity for emotion, although there’s some evidence to the contrary; they clearly feel sorrow when they’ve failed their master. There’s more than one dark side to their loyalty… Nergal has put so much magic into them, he’s overloaded them, and their body is slowly crumbling under the stress of so much power. Without intervention to remove some or all of their magic, they’ll be dead very soon.

>continued from here; @bruniatrobaire
Try as he might, Leo will never fully understand his son. Hobbies aside, Forrest wears his heart upon his well-designed sleeve, every emotion felt to the fullest extent and on display for all to see.
There are some days where Leo wonders if Forrest inherited anything from his patrilineal blood, followed by the dismal thought that Forrest rejected such things in some form of rebellion. Leo only has himself to blame if that's the case.
He removes his hand, letting it fall at his side. "I made a promise to be a better father, and I intend to keep it. No one expected this little journey to yield such confusing results." Blond head inclines away from the greenhouse, towards the stone building of the Academy proper. "I'll answer your questions in my office. We can stop for tea, first, if you'd like."
Older prince begins walking, heading for the small flight of stairs. "Well, fashion is something you hold dear, is it not? I will not lie and say I understand it all, but I cannot learn if I refuse to listen. Where do you get your inspirations for new designs?"
Leo pauses on the first step and glances over his shoulder. The boy is owed his full attention, at bare minimum.

Oh! Hello! Thanks for the questions and the compliment.
This ended up being a lot, sorry.
I haven't thought about it too hard, but since Alador and Darius made mistakes with their other children, they try really hard to be more attentive and patient with him right out of the gate.
He's a little fussy, and a little clingy when he's a toddler. Especially with his parents and Edric and Eberwolf. Darius gives him his old cape as a blanket and he carries it everywhere. Alador's little affectionate nickname for him is Wiggles because has a hard time sitting still. Darius calls him Littler Prince. He loves clinging to their legs.
He's always peaking over his parent's shoulders in interest whenever they're working on something, even as he grows up. Especially abomination work. This goes for Amity, too. I think she babies him just as much as Darius and Alador do. She's excited to be the older sister for once! She reads him books.
He and Alador like to catch bugs together. Darius teaches him how to sew and draw.
For Emira, he lets her do his hair. One of only 3 people he'll let touch it (Darius, Alador, Emira). He likes how gentle she is with the brush. He'll come to her for his various scrapes and bruises after he's done causing mischief (playing around).
With Hunter, he likes to sit down and lean on him while he carves palismen. Hunter loves spending that time with him. Hunter takes him flying sometimes. Demessie loves watching his flyer derby games. They end carving his palismen together.
With Edric, he's just amazed at everything he does. He thinks he's smart and funny and wants to be like his big brother. Sometimes, Demessie will learn weird and obscure facts to tell Edric just to impress him. And Edric will usually teach him something in turn.
With Eberwolf he's constantly begging to help him with his beasts. Wanting to run wild with him in the fields and the forrest. Since they're very good at communicating with each other through body language. Eberwolf is constantly bringing him home covered in mud, to Darius' annoyance.
He will go to different people for different things! If it's comfort and safety, it's his parents mostly, and Eberwolf. For knowledge, it's his parents, Amity and Ed. For fashion and hair, it's Darius and Em. Etc. It's really situation dependant, though.
Sorry if this is all a little generic. I may think of more later.
Tumblr media
Some AlaDarius baby sketches that I won't finish.
Toddler to Young Adult.
Demessie Deamonne
Darius carried him. Alador is the biological father.
Inherited Darius' abomination form.
Hence, pretty adept with abomination magic. But only after lots of practice.
Secondary beastkeeper and illusionist.
Mute.
Spoiled baby. Not just by his parents but his siblings.
Loves chaos.
Gets abomination slime everywhere.
Autism and adhd like Alador.
Communicates with illusions and sign language.
Weasel palismen.

A Perfect Love
After a few weeks, I have finally finished my Jalim Vampire AU. Since it is too long for Tumblr, you can instead find it on my A03 Account.
There is a lot of pain, and decadence, and my favourite descriptive, flowery writing style. There is also a f<<ked up s3x scene at the end, after all of the superfluous beauty.
The beginning is under the cut, to tempt you.
Jason did not think he was a violent man. He wanted what most men wanted: power, respect, peace. To rule his people without challenge. To provide for those same people so they would never want for more. His death and rebirth had not altered his personality, had not made him the bloodthirsty tyrant his neighbouring kingdoms claimed him to be. One by one they had waged war on the undead king and one by one they had been felled - replacing Jason’s fallen soldiers with their own bodies. But time was not kind, and these kingdoms dwindled and faded; people suffered and died. Famine and plague would touch the mortal breath and draw it out, like a doctor drawing blood from a wound. The land diminished and Jason was left to look out from his castle over an oceanic forrest to the distant lights of the Capitol. The last human civilisation to stand against the mountain of time. An army thousands strong, farmlands that stretched to the sea. Cathedrals where Jason’s captured subjects were trialled and burned before God. The skeleton of a glorious kingdom lay behind Jason - feeble waves crashing against a mighty ship, desperate to live in a world where waves were not wanted. They had withdrawn to live on beasts, withdrawn to live in the dark, withdrawn to where it should have been safe. And still soldiers from the Capitol came for them, with fire and silver arrows. With woven nets and pikes. And Jason could no longer stem the tide of immortal fear. Centuries he had lived, making peace with the punishment of his nightmares, and never had he been bent or broken. But on the horizon the sun of change was rising, and if he could not shelter his people, he was doomed to watch them blaze.
The Prince of the Capitol would soon come of age and be crowned its new king, and the old king would step aside. And what better shield against a son than his own father. As Jason stood on the parapet of his castle’s wall and looked deep into the fireflies of the distant city, he thought with the best intentions: I will capture the king, and I will make him a vampire like me.
Jason could not look at himself in reflective glass. He’d had masks made in his image to remind him of his own face - high cheekbones and deep brown eyes of royal lineage. Hair that refused to be tamed except by the thickest of oils. Lips that sneered more easily than they smiled. Age and decay had not touched him, time had not rendered him weak or weary. Sleep came to him in a warm and rolling embrace with the arrival of the sun each day, and each night he awoke as if he has simply blinked the time away. He wore lavish clothes from a bygone era, had no interest in fashions favoured by humans. Dark blues and jewel greens, deepest blacks with gold or silver trim, sweeping cloaks and fur lined cuffs. Polished leather boots to his thighs with velvet leggings or embroidered breeches. Jason’s string of temporary lovers had always seemed fascinated by the way he presented himself, yet set no precedence for the fashion of his court. He’d never assumed it was his business to interfere in the way others chose to present themselves. How could a subject feel safe when they couldn’t even chose what they wore?
Jason kept small close contact - only a few vampires that aided in the ruling of his kingdom. A private and withdrawn trio from the first kingdom he conquered: Lord Eric and Lady Rachel, and their companion Nicholas. A trade ship had bought him a man named Merwin, well versed in matters of money but with a less than savoury tongue. The youngest prince from a toppled Estate by the sea, José was a talented linguist and academic. And wandering witch and alchemist Clarice, an outspoken and headstrong young woman, was the most recent addition, some three hundred years ago. These few he trusted above all others, these few he allowed private knowledge of his plans. And these few he left in charge when he travelled out one night to attend the Capitol’s Masquerade.
A pity Jason could not see into the future, for the best laid plans of all good men are so often doomed to fail…
***
[I promise it ends happily..
The title and indeed the story were inspired by Paul Williams, and you can listen to A Perfect Love on YT (as well as Gone Forever and I Never Had it So Good), but some of the inspiration also came from Good While it Lasted by Ashnikko, and Waiting on a Miracle from the Encanto soundtrack.]

Lost traveler
1/?
Loki x female!reader
Word count: 1590
Tag list: @gaitwae @lucywrites02 @hard-to-be-the-bard @birdgirl90 @laramoonworld
Summary: A mysterious traveler visits Asgard and thanks to an accident has to stay for longer than she expected. Bonds are created but also shattered along the way.
A/N: reader has elemental powers, something like avatar the last airbender.
Tumblr media
Being a traveler had its pros and cons. Pros: you learn a lot about different realms and make a lot of friends along the way. Cons: you don't have a home, all the friends you make you either never see again or they don't remember you when you visit their planet, and you are alone. 100% of your time. None of the people or creatures you meet want to travel with you. You don't make a big deal out of it, you never did. You liked your privacy and alone time. Even if it hurts you sometimes.
You had your amulet though. A black stone in golden bracelet. Thanks to it you can create portals to travel. Sometimes it felt like the bracelet was pulsing with its own life. It was like a dear companion to you. You haven't taken it off in years, it became part of you. Sometimes it warmed your skin when you went to open a portal. That's how it was usually telling you where the best worlds to visit are. You were always excited when you felt the warmth under your bracelet. It meant it wanted to show you a beautiful part of galaxy you haven't been to yet.
Like now. You were making your way through foggy swamp, looking for a rare plant to study. As you jumped over fallen tree you felt your amulet warming your forearm.
"In a minute buddy, I really need this flower," you said a little too fast. You really needed that plant, but exploring a new world after weeks spent here was just too tempting.
However the stone was stubborn. The warmth escalated into burning. "Argh! Alright, I get it! I'm going, see?" your hand started to draw circles and symbols on the ground in front of you. Your other hand pulled the darkness from your stone, making it light yellow temporarily. The darkness with blue highlits seeped into the ground and teared the air before you, creating a small crevice.
Like an opened window it showed forrest. Nothing too unusual. Some oak trees, grass, wild flower here and there. 'What are you up to my friend?' you thought to yourself as you walked through the crevice. It immediately closed after ypu passed, leaving you alone in a new world.
First rule when you come into new place: find water. Fairly easy. Sound of water was near, a creek maybe? After you filled your bottle you started walking north, looking for any hills or mountains to climb onto and get better view of this realm.
Suddenly a storm like sound broke through the peaceful silence. You looked towards the sky to find clear blue. No dark grey clouds. So why was it roaring as if a thunder was starting? And there was the sound again, from the same spot as before.
You pulled your black leather hood over your head and slowly started to approach the thundering place.
"Thor! Can you stop doing that for at least 5 minutes?!" a voice came from your right.
"And why should I?" came a strong voice from in front of you.
"Because I'm trying to think, which is thanks to you nearly impossible!"
"Unlike you, dear brother, I have mighty powers that need to be controlled. How better than testing how far I can go?"
"That doesn't even make sense."
So brothers. And one of them is lightning thrower. Maybe the one named Thor.
"I don't have enough nerves for this," the Not Thor started to walk further right, away from lightning thrower.
It seemed wiser to aproach the calmer one. You already had the honor to meet a lightning thrower before, never again. Even though this other man could be even more dangerous than his brother. Decisions decisions. One could get you killed, the other even worse.
Eventually your legs started to take you to your right, after the calm one.
The man sat himself on a rock in front of a clear lake. He had black hairygreen and black clothes which looked to be made of leather with golden plates on forearms. He had his back turned to you, approaching him from behind would be stupid. You slowly walked around him, keeping yourself in trees' shadow.
You purposfully stepped on a dry branch to attract his attention. And fair enough, his head shot to you, dagger in hand, danger in eyes. You held your hands up to show you weren't armed and stepped into the light. "Hello," you greeted.
"Who are you?" he asked rather harshly. You're used to people being affraid of you, the cloak made you look scary, especially with a hood on.
"I'm a traveler," you answered simply.
He eyed you suspiciously, hand holding a dagger was slowly lowering. "And what's your name little traveler?"
Just as you wanted to answer a jolt of pain striked you into your shoulder, electricity engulfed you and the last thing you saw was the mysterious man in green and black leather rushing to catch your falling body.
~~~
Mornings in Asgard are usually quiet and calm. This one however was far from it. Loki's older brother Thor finally got into age when he can produce and control lightnings. Well, he tries to. That's what woke young sorcerer. Thor breaking a pillar near his window on accident.
"Love, would you be so kind and take your brother far from anything he can destroy? You're skilled with your gifts, I'm more than sure you will teach him how to control his own," the queen of Asgard asked the still half asleep trickster at breakfast table to which he nodded without even thinking.
And that's how he got stuck with him for the whole day. Alone. They already walked through forrest near Glittertind mountain and currently were trying to find the perfect place for Thor to train.
They were getting deeper into The Great Oak Woods when Thor thought it would be great fun to destroy a tree or two.
Loki was looking at map of Asgard in his head, trying to look for the nearest quarry. The mental gymnastics he had to do to concentrate in such noise was olympic worthy.
"Thor!" his brother turned to him. "Can you stop doing that for at least 5 minutes?!"
Thor's fingers begin to sparkle, teasing Loki. "And why should I?"
Loki pinged the bridge of his nose. "Because I'm trying to think, which is thanks to you nearly impossible!"
"Unlike you, dear brother, I have mighty powers that need to be controlled. How better than testing how far I can go?" he smirked confidently, sparks were now flying uncontrollably from his hands.
"That doesn't even make sense," Loki shook his head and begun walking away from him. "I don't have enough nerves for this."
He found himself a nice rock near his favourite lake. Birds around were chirping in their nests, sparkly fish with colourful fins were chasing each other in the crystal clear lake. Loki could finally relax.
Until he heard a wooden crack coming from his side.
On an instinct he drew daggers and turned towards a danger. Which turned out to be a girl. Bout in Loki's age. Knee high black boots covered by drying mud, dark green trousers and brown leather jacket hidden under black cloak which covered her hair as well. Sparkly curious eyes bore into his as she held up her hands in surrender.
He was more than sure he has never seen her before. She's a stranger.
"Hello," her melodic voice greeted.
"Who are you?" that wasn't probably the nicest thing to say to a newbie but Loki was trained to never trust a stranger.
"I'm a traveler," he expected a name, this answer sparked curiosity inside of him. She sparked a curiosity inside of him.
"And what's your name little traveler?" he started to lower his daggers, she didn't seem like a threat.
She opened her mouth but her face got twisted by pain as lightning struck her side. He quickly rushed, catching her before her head could collide with a rock.
"There, who needs training? One clear shot at first try!" a familiar booming voice came from Loki's left.
"You oaf, you nearly killed her!" Loki yelled at him.
"Her? I simply struck a moose."
Loki gathered her body into his arms and showed her face to his brother. "Does this look like a moose?"
Thor looked down at her, visibly paling. His hand started scratching the back of his head nervously. "Damn. Who is she? Did you know her?"
Loki shook his head and started to walk towards palace. "She said she's a traveler. Look at her clothes. No one on Asgard wears such fashion. Not to say a girl from Asgard would ever wear this," he gestured to her cloak which looked like a snake skin rather than an ordinary leather.
"Where are you taking her?" Thor trailed behind him.
"To fields, she'll make an excelent scarecrow," sarcasm was dripping from every word he said.
The older prince chuckled. "You and your jokes... What will we do with her when healers take care of her?"
"We? I'm not going to do anything with her, but YOU are going to apologize."
None of the princes noticed the white cracks looking like lightning bolts on the traveler's amulet.
So I’ve been kinda dancing around my original story idea for a little while, and I got this idea in my head of ‘what if I release chapter 1 and then get feedback without telling anyone what the story is about first so it’s more of a surprise?’ But honestly? I’m realizing since I already released a preview-of-a-preview for chapter 1, and it might be a little while until I finish chapter 1, plus I honestly kinda feel like I’d rather work on sketches of my character designs than write at the moment, I might as well go ahead and tell you guys. X’3
So! I watched a couple anime recently both centered around the premise of... monster girls! These being Monster Musume and Monster Girl Doctor, but then I noticed there’s also Interviews with Monster Girls, A Centaur’s Life, and the infamous Interspecies Reviewers, and I asked myself... Monster girls are pretty popular right now, yeah? But where’s all the monster boys?! And that’s how I got the idea! I re-watched some of my favorite anime based on Otome Games, Kamigami no Asobi and Uta no Prince Sama for inspiration as well, and a few ones I hadn’t seen before like Dance with Devils and Magic-kyun Renaissance for inspiration as well.
So now I’ve got my premise that I shared earlier: This is the story of Millie, a young woman down on her luck who happens to live in a world where monsters aren’t just real, but commonplace. She started working as a maid in a mansion-turned-art-school whose students are a group of very attractive monster boys. The twist is that these aren’t just any monster boys; they belong to various rare and exotic species with deadly reputations...
Note that character and place names are technically place-holders for now and may change if I come up with better ones. Now, I don’t wanna spoil anything story-wise, but I think I can introduce my setting and some of the characters that you’re gonna meet. The story is set in a modern setting, though it’s vague if it’s actually Earth or just some generic world similar to it, as I try to avoid referencing real-world places or events. This is a world where humans and monsters live together after a Great Interspecies War happened in the past, but tensions have mostly relaxed by the time the story takes place. The war could be thought of as the equivalent of our own World War One, one in which there was a truce decided after many years of stalemate fighting.
The city everything takes place in is tentatively named Dullahan, and was built directly after the war to commemorate peace between human and monster kind. It’s considered an artistic cultural center, and it’s got a lot of interesting entertainment places to go to, arcades, theaters, aquariums, etc, that the characters can have a lot of different shenanigans in. The other main setting is the Beaufort Academy of the Arts, which was actually a mansion that was converted into a small private school. This is where all the characters live, and our main character Millie works as a maid there.
Before I go into the characters, I should start with the various monster species. There are 12 species, divided into 2 groups: common monsters and exotic monsters. The common monsters are centaurs, harpies, lamias (snake people), kobolds (dog people), ogres, and merrows (mermaids). These species are all pretty standard, and will be mostly background characters and npcs. The main characters, and love interests for Millie, will be of the exotic variety: arachnes (spider people), sirens (deep-sea mermaids), mandrakes (plant people), dragons, manticores (with a liontaur body-type), and scyllas (octopus people).
So what differentiates a common monster from an exotic one? Well, while the Interspecies War was between humans and monsters in general, some monsters were already at least partially integrated into human society, and the rest followed soon after the war ended. These monsters were almost as common as humans, and either herbivorous or omnivorous, with the exception of the carnivorous lamias who prefer to eat eggs over anything else. On the other hand, the so-called ‘exotic’ species were not only much more rare, but they had a very different food preference... one which earned them the now derogatory nickname... man-eaters.
Naturally, most ‘man-eaters’ weren’t exactly welcomed into human --nor common monster-- society with open arms, not that most of them wanted to. For the most part, species as powerful and dangerous as them didn’t want to play nice with those they had once --and in some cases still do-- regard as prey, and so hid away into the furthest reaches of the world. Which of course makes them perfect material for all our leading men and Millie’s various love-interests!! Oh yes, while all of these monster boys are perfectly civilized --well, for the most part-- they still belong to species that many both human and monster alike continue to fear to this day. While they aren’t exactly fish out of water (well, except for the siren) there’s still plenty of awkward misunderstandings and interesting scenarios that can be played out.
So! Let’s have a quick run-down of the characters, keep in mind that none of these names are final and could change later on. First there’s Millie, a hardworking young woman who’s had a recent streak of bad luck. Through a misunderstanding she gets hired as a maid in a mansion-turned-art-school. She’s very sweet and tries her best to help others, but she’s not as innocent as she appears; she’ll understand your innuendos just fine, even if she doesn’t really say any herself! Next is Richard and Lara Beaufort, a husband and wife who run the school. Richard is rather laid-back, yet he’s also a master of all kinds of art, painting, sculpture, photography, dancing, singing, you name it! Lara is his arachne wife, a rather boisterous woman who owns a high-class fashion company. The secret to her clothing’s success?? Arachne silk, of course! The school was her idea, a way to help better integrate exotic species into society. Will her mission succeed? Only time can tell.
Richard and Lara have a son named Simon, our first love interest and a human-arachne hybrid who takes almost entirely after his mother in the looks-department (hybrids tend to look like one species or the other, rather than a mix of both). He’s a bit withdrawn due to dealing with bullying as a kid; most people --human and monster alike-- are afraid of his spider-like appearance, so he doesn’t get out much-- to the point his parents worry about him being a shut-in for life! He’s also a gamer boy, and has a secret soft side for gothic poetry, although he doesn’t want to join his parents’ art classes. He actually disapproves of his mother’s exotic species integration plan, as from what he’s experienced he feels it’s a waste of time.
Simon’s best friend and Millie’s second love interest is Louis, a mandrake who lives in the woods behind the manor. Louis is extremely shy and more than a bit lonely, even more so than Simon, and he doesn’t speak very often out of fear that the sound of his voice will hurt others around him. Mandrake screams can induce insanity or even kill those that hear them, hence his fear. Being part plant, Louis has mild shape-shifting abilities and is able to transform between child and young adult forms at will, although he’s actually the oldest of the group. He also isn’t a student at the art school, although he has an interest in floristry.
Now for our actual students! Forrest is a manticore, which in this world means he has a body similar to that of a centaur, but with the lower half of a lion instead of a horse, and a scorpion-like tail tipped with a deadly venomous stinger. Despite his species’s name literally meaning ‘man-eater’, Forrest is extremely friendly and cheerful, and is very sporty too. His passion is photography, and he also loves eating food-- any sort of meat dish is fine by him! He’s also a fan of fantasy tabletop roleplaying games, and will often make references comparing them to everyday life; he always plays the knight who saves the princess!
Anthony is a childhood ‘friend’ of Forrest’s, though he’s loathe to admit it. Highly intelligent and highly snobbish, Anthony fancies himself an intellectual-- and he’s not exactly wrong. Being a dragon, he likes to hoard things-- in his case, knowledge. Anthony loves to read, and is most often found in the library. His skill is in drawing and painting, and all his paintings’ invariably morose subject matter worry Millie. Still, this haughty dragon could definitely learn to loosen up a little, and be a little more kind; perhaps his stay at the academy --and his interactions with Millie-- will open his mind to appreciating the feelings of others. He does, at the very least, greatly respect Master Beaufort as a master of the arts.
The other two students are denizens of the sea, and have been friends for a very long time. Emil is a scylla, and like all scyllas he’s a little eccentric, and just can’t seem to keep his tentacles to himself! While Forrest is obsessed with eating, Emil’s true calling is cooking, and he loves making all kinds of dishes, especially anything seafood and/or foreign. Emil also is highly appreciative of women’s fashion, and absolutely adores everything to come from Madam Beaufort’s clothing brand-- so much so that he actually wears them himself! His pretty-boy looks and penchant for wearing women’s clothing actually has Millie mistake him for a girl at first, though he’s very much unafraid to show her his romantic side, or at least what he interprets as romantic...
Keeping Emil’s pervy antics in check is our sixth and final monster boy, Oswald! As a siren, Oswald spent most of his life in the sea, and still has a lot to learn about humanity. He’s a pretty cool guy but gets a bit embarrassed about his species’s troublesome past as the cause of many shipwrecks at sea, and would prefer to not discuss it. His passion is rock music, and his main instrument is the guitar. He also loves to sing, but refrains from doing so due to the hypnotic effect it has on other species. His lack of legs, tentacles, or a snake-like tail means that like other merrows and sirens he requires a wheelchair to move around on land, and often feels frustrated that he can’t show off how adept he is at traversing water. He’s also easy to embarrass and obsessed with not allowing anything to ‘ruin’ his manly image, including allowing Millie (a girl!) to help carry him around.
So there you have it, all my monster boys! I left out a few things, as those would be major spoilers, but those are my ideas for the characters for now! I’ll try to draw and post some sketches of their designs later. Hopefully I haven’t forgotten anything, but this won’t be the last time I talk about monster boys. Any questions or comments would be very much appreciated! Nsfw questions are allowed (all the boys wear pants for a reason, after all), though I’m currently not sure if this series will be 16+ or 18+, if you catch my meaning. Lemme know how interested you are in this story, or if you’re not interested please let me know that too!
Which part specifically? I mean, yeah, the whole game is a disaster, but I'd love to hear specific points. There was so much I didn't like about Fates that it just collectively merges as 'bad' in my mind.
it's not really anything specific tbh!! because the way Fates is misogynistic is not different from the way the other Fire Emblems (that i’ve. played. it’s possible all the ones pre-Sacred Stones were actually Forbidden Feminist Utopias) also carry that unmistakable whiff of misogyny. it's not done out of malice, it's just...a franchise that loves to play high fantasy tropes straight, particularly the bit about Restoring the Good Monarch. i never got the sense that they thought hard about the fact that the dude protags (Ephraim, Ike, Chrom) get intricate coming of age stories about tempering their talents for murder with wisdom, while all the lady "protags" (Eirika, Elincia, Micaiah) mostly don't change at all and just kinda swan around doing the "we are ethereal maidens too good for this sinful earth" thing, and when they do wibble it's always about how they wish they could be as "strong" as their dude counterparts except they inevitably can't and don't want to be, because war is bad!!! there's too much war in this war game franchise, buy our next DLC for how to solve war with war
(Lucina's a weird case, but that's why i love her, and...i suspect the only reason Lucina got to be the way she is was because she was doing DRAG, which is a rabbit hole that we don't have time for.)
Fates (sidebar: i played Revelations but i know what happens in Birthright and Conquest. i ended up doing all the Paralogues, because i was morbidly curious about how many different ways you could tell a "no dad!!! it's your dream" story, and the answer was "around four, so spreading them across TWENTY ONE versions basically creates the story equivalent of ultra skim milk.") doesn't do anything functionally different from its predecessors, it's just...more egregious this time, because so much of the story feels exclusively catered to drawing attention to it. i get the sense that the devs were trying to aim for bigger, more sophisticated storytelling than what they did with Awakening, which is why we got Fire Emblem: More Royals Than Ever and the requisite chin-stroking about families of blood vs. families of choice, but that they were trying to be Deep (tm) just made the parts that have always been shallow in the franchise look uglier.
i'm just gonna talk about the Royals, because the story privileges the Royals to a truly mind-bending degree (see above: high fantasy, monarchism). with the Royals we have:
the Hoshido/Nohr sibling matchy-matchy that is eerie from the outset (did Sumeragi and Garon set TIMERS so they'd impregnate women at roughly the same time and murder the babies who didn't come out the right gender?), even before you get to the part where they are "foils" for each other in p much aesthetic only, since their personalities are not actually that different when you get down to it. you have the Dutiful Big Bro (Xander and Ryoma), the Closeted Lesbian Big Sis (Camilla and Hinoka, representing opposite ends of the gender presentation spectrum), the Insecure Lil Bro (Takumi and Leo), and the Incorruptibly Pure Lil Sis (Sakura and Elise, the latter of whom for her crime of being outgoing was punished with death in Birthright, which...yikes)
so like. extremely paint by numbers right from conception (heh). why couldn't Xander have been the one who was Naive and Not Ready for This World? because he is Boy, which means he can only be flawed in the Boy Ways, so he must be Too Worldly instead. why couldn't Camilla be the oldest? she's already jaded and weird, so why not make her the heir just to shake things up? because she is Girl and Too Weird and Wearing BLACK, and weird girls in black can't be queen--even if Xander dies, she can't be queen.
Azura is clearly supposed to The Chrom Surrogate of this game insofar as she's your blue haired pal with whom you share a destiny, but she is The Chrom Surrogate but MAXIMUM GIRL, so she's the quintessential non-combatant class, she has a special song that soothes the hearts of warriors, she LITERALLY DIES FOR THE PEACE (TM) IN BIRTHRIGHT AND CONQUEST. (and obviously her hair can't be the Fire Emblem Classic shade of blue--that's too masculine.)
wrt the second gen, lineage is passed through the dad in the eugenics factory this time, which is on paper a fine shakeup from in Awakening, but...ALL the definitely-royal second gens are boys? don't get me wrong: i actually adore what they did with Forrest--like, fucking superb u gender-nonconforming fashion-loving Prince of Peace--but Forrest being an actually interesting inversion of what we expect (that isn't played for laughs!!!) makes all the other boys come off as much blander than they could be. why can't Kiragi be a dirt and hunting loving GIRL? i love Shiro's supports with Kana, but his whole "boisterous laid back but also inferiority complex" deal would be much less tired if he were the Crown Princess instead of Prince. i suppose if Siegbert were Girl with Anxiety and Kingship he'd just...be Lucina, but that's not necessarily a bad thing!!! bitches love Lucina!! (i'm bitches)
the thing is all of this would be...well. not FINE, but more acceptable if they did some things to flesh out those cookie-cutter personalities. Fates didn't deliver for any of the Royals to the extent i wanted it to, but even for what we had the girls got markedly less than the boys did. the moment that made me go "hoo boy maybe i will make poast about this" was in the climax when all the Five Whatevers lit up to form the Fire Emblem and we got some nice concept art of Takumi Leo Ryoma and Xander making :O faces, while the girls...were also there! in Revelation i'm pretty sure you can cut out Camilla Hinoka Elise and Sakura and leave the plot basically unchanged. you could say they fare better in Birthright and Conquest, but you could just as easily say they fare WORSE, because what they get to do if they're NPCs in those routes are: be sad and die, be sad and be spared from dying, be sad and get even weirder before being spared from dying, or be sad.
Camilla and Hinoka feel like the most wasted potential, because we haven't had as many "female royal who is actually pretty down with murder" characters before. but the devs clearly had no idea with what to DO with that, so (outside of her daddy and mommy issues, the details of which we learn about via supports with Niles the resident sex pest and hoo boy the "queer rep" in this game is whole other can of worms) Camilla became your momsistergirlfriend with built-in innovative airbag technology, whose creepiness is played for laughs, and Hinoka was...wait which one was Hinoka again
i am partly just being glib for comic effect, but like--the underlying problems are there, no matter how seriously or generously you want to read it. Fates doesn't go out of its way to mistreat its women; it just doesn't expend any effort thinking about them, so the misogyny breaks loose and stands out anyway.
