Sudan, already ravaged by a disastrous war, is now suffering from a failed, politicized humanitarian response.
The ongoing crisis there has reached catastrophic proportions, yet the international community’s response remains woefully inadequate. A series of missteps and political maneuvers have undermined efforts to provide meaningful assistance to those in desperate need, and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the paramilitary group responsible for much of the violence, has yet to be held accountable for actively destroying the country’s food reserves. The situation demands immediate attention and a drastic shift in approach from global leaders and institutions.
At the core of this failure is the United Nations Security Council’s persistent delays in addressing findings from its own Panel of Experts on Sudan. These findings document “credible” allegations of the United Arab Emirates’ involvement in violating Darfur’s arms embargo by supplying the RSF with weapons and ammunition. Furthermore, the Guardian reported that U.K. government officials have been blocking discussions of the UAE’s involvement in the Security Council for months—including after the Labour Party took power in July.
This procrastination not only undermines the urgency of the crisis, but also permits potential external interference to continue unchecked. The Security Council’s inaction sends a troubling message about the international community’s commitment to resolving the conflict and protecting Sudanese civilians.
While diplomatic efforts are crucial, these discussions offer no new mechanisms to enforce an end to attacks on civilians. The U.S. special envoy for Sudan, Tom Perriello, has failed to provide any concrete mechanisms for enforcing last year’s Jeddah declaration, which required the protection of civilians and specifically committed the RSF and rival Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) to vacating and refraining from occupying public and private facilities. Perriello simply noted in an interview on X earlier this month that the UAE and Egypt will attend the latest round of talks, held in Geneva in mid-August.
Yet there is no substantial pressure being applied on the UAE. Without concrete measures to protect the Sudanese people, such talks risk becoming little more than performative gestures, failing to address the immediate suffering on the ground. The Sudanese government boycotted the Geneva talks after the UAE was added as a mediator, despite its continued military support to the RSF. Additionally, U.S. rapper Macklemore canceled his October show in Dubai to protest the UAE’s destructive role in the Sudan conflict.
The international community’s financial response has been equally disheartening. Despite numerous humanitarian conferences, only a fraction of the $4.1 billion appeal made by the U.N. in February 2024 has been met. This severe underfunding leaves millions of Sudanese refugees and internally displaced persons without essential support, exacerbating an already dire situation. The stark contrast between the promises made at these conferences and the actual aid delivered reveals a troubling gap between rhetoric and action.
The lack of accountability for those perpetrating violence and weaponizing famine is exacerbating Sudan’s crisis. The RSF, responsible for much of the destruction, continues to operate with impunity, actively destroying the country’s food reserves. Since the RSF took control of the state of Jazirah, the country’s farming center, in December, the nation has been grappling with humanmade famine. Farmers in the state have reported a near-complete loss of cotton and wheat crops due to RSF control.
In contrast, areas that remain under SAF control saw normal crops. According to local reports in Jazirah, the RSF pushed local farmers to harvest crops only to confiscate them and transport the yields out of the state for their own benefit.
On June 26, the RSF advanced on the southeastern trading hub of Sennar, seeking to expand its territorial gains more than 14 months into its war with the Sudanese army. This move forced the displacement of more than 150,000 people living in the state, many of whom had fled from Jazirah during the RSF invasion in December 2023. The militia also targeted Sennar’s agricultural project and food reserves, further deepening the humanitarian crisis and undermining efforts toward stabilization and peace.
Doctors Without Borders (or Médecins Sans Frontières, the MSF) reports that the RSF is targeting local hospitals and blocking aid in Darfur. Outside the city of El Fasher, where more than 800,000 civilians are trapped by the RSF, MSF supply trucks have been held in the nearby town of Kabkabiya by the RSF for the past four weeks. This blockade threatens to leave the Saudi Hospital, one of the last working health facilities in El Fasher, without critical supplies.
This deliberate targeting of essential resources not only worsens the humanitarian crisis, but also underscores the urgent need for international intervention to implement the U.N. arms embargo in Darfur and stop the alleged UAE arms supply to the RSF through Chad.
Moreover, it is crucial to halt the alleged UAE arms supply to the RSF through Chad, particularly at Amdjarass’s airport, a small town in eastern Chad where UAE air cargo planes reportedly land and unload weapons that are then transported across the border to RSF strongholds in Darfur.
Political maneuvering has further complicated efforts to address the crisis effectively. Actions such as the United Kingdom’s reported intervention to alter the format of U.N. Security Council meetings have prevented Sudan from directly presenting its case, prioritizing commercial interests with the UAE over humanitarian concerns.
Al-Harith Idriss, Sudan’s permanent representative to the U.N., asked for an urgent Security Council meeting on April 26 in response to what he described as UAE “aggression” against his nation. However, the U.K., serving as the current penholder on Sudan in the Security Council, intervened to change the meeting’s agenda and format to closed consultations. As a result, Idriss was not allowed to attend the meeting, which ultimately took place on April 29.
During these secret discussions, U.N. Security Council members issued a statement urging the RSF to commit to refraining from attacking any cities and to end the violence surrounding El Fasher. On another occasion, the Guardian reported that the U.K. government has been actively discouraging African states from criticizing the UAE. Such actions erode trust in international institutions and their ability to respond impartially to crises.
The current approach to Sudan’s war is failing. The international community must prioritize the protection of civilians, punish perpetrators of violence, and deliver on financial commitments. The UAE and its proxy, the RSF, must be held accountable for their alleged crimes and, in the case of the latter, attacks on civilians in Sudan. The five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council should publicly address the UAE’s reported support of RSF crimes and the Emirati government’s violation of the international arms embargo in Darfur.
Furthermore, international human rights organizations should take Abu Dhabi to court for its alleged crimes against Sudanese civilians. The UAE’s ongoing arms supply has enabled the RSF to carry out ethnic cleansing in Darfur and commit massacres in Khartoum, Jazira, and Sennar.
Some actions have already been taken. The Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights is campaigning to hold the UAE accountable in the International Court of Justice or through other legal avenues, such as in Germany or the European Court of Human Rights. Additionally, the International Criminal Court should leverage its existing jurisdiction over Darfur to prosecute crimes against humanity in the region. But more must be done. A concerted, unified international effort to address the root causes of the conflict could pave the way for lasting peace and stability and alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people.

In the wake of blazing heat, rising food insecurity and devastating floods, COP28 leaders have released a four-point “food and agriculture” agenda for the conference, which will call for governments to work with industry to find new solutions.
As some of the biggest companies – in particular meat and dairy firms – grow more concerned about their climate-villain images, they are turning to greenwashing techniques: well-known tactics deployed by oil and gas industries to shift the debate away from meaningful action. Often valid concepts in and of themselves, the problem lies in how they are touted as enviro-friendly actions while companies fail to cut their contribution to global heating.
The agriculture industry has a lot to be worried about. Meat emits around a third of global emissions of methane, and action to cut this greenhouse gas has been identified by the UN and world leaders as the quickest route to slowing global heating. Farming also relies on synthetic fertilisers that are both fossil-fuel-based and emit greenhouse gases, and drives deforestation.
Major food and farming corporations will be seeking to steer conversations in Dubai via an influential coalition: the AIM for Climate (Aim4C) initiative. Spearheaded by the US and United Arab Emirates (UAE), Aim4C will be showcasing $13 billion-worth of joint projects (or “innovation sprints”) which feature many high-tech “climate-smart” solutions that are favoured by industry, and include some dubious technologies unproven at scale.
The terms, with details in link, are: regenerative agriculture, nature-based solutions, climate neutrality, emissions intensity, efficiency, sustainable intensification

Omar Hussain Chicago: The project supports the vision of making Dubai a 20-minute city, where daily needs and destinations are accessible by foot or bicycle within 20 minutes. This shift in urban planning promotes healthier lifestyles, reduces congestion, and lowers pollution levels. The Loop will feature integrated leisure and wellness facilities, sports courts, fitness stations, and vertical farms, contributing to food security and social engagement within communities. By incorporating renewable energy sources and green infrastructure, The Loop aims to create a resilient and sustainable urban environment.
Expanding the Vision: Integrating Sustainability Across Urban Projects
URB’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond these flagship projects. The firm is involved in numerous other initiatives aimed at promoting ecological conservation, social inclusivity, and economic resilience.
Promoting Green Spaces and Biodiversity
URB emphasizes the importance of green spaces and biodiversity in urban planning. Their projects often include extensive landscaping with native plants, green roofs, and urban gardens. These green spaces not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of the urban environment but also provide critical habitats for local wildlife, reduce urban heat island effects, and improve air quality.
Renewable Energy and Resource Efficiency
A key aspect of URB’s sustainable initiatives is the integration of renewable energy sources and resource efficiency measures. Solar panels, wind turbines, and energy-efficient building designs are standard features in their projects. Additionally, URB promotes water conservation through advanced irrigation systems, rainwater harvesting, and greywater recycling, ensuring that their developments use resources responsibly and sustainably.
Community Engagement and Education
URB recognizes that sustainable urban development requires active community engagement and education. They organize workshops, seminars, and community events to raise awareness about sustainability issues and encourage residents to adopt eco-friendly practices. By involving the community in the planning and implementation process, URB ensures that their projects meet the needs and aspirations of the people who live there.
Economic Opportunities and Job Creation
URB’s projects are designed to create significant economic opportunities and jobs. By fostering green industries and sustainable businesses, URB contributes to the development of a resilient and diversified economy. Their initiatives aim to provide long-term employment opportunities in fields such as renewable energy, environmental conservation, and sustainable tourism, helping to build a more inclusive and prosperous society.
URB’s initiatives exemplify a comprehensive approach to sustainable urban development, balancing ecological preservation with economic growth and social well-being. Projects like Dubai Reefs, the Urban Tech District, and The Loop not only address current environmental and urban challenges but also set new standards for future developments globally. By pioneering such transformative projects, URB is playing a crucial role in shaping a sustainable, resilient, and thriving future for Dubai says, Omar Hussain Chicago.
Through their innovative designs and commitment to sustainability, URB is helping to redefine urban living for the 21st century, ensuring that Dubai remains a leader in sustainable development and a model for cities worldwide.

Vegetarianism Will Not Help the Planet or Its People
There’s a lot of talk about saving the planet by stopping beef and other meat production. I agree that beef animals should be moved to grass, and away from feed lots and soybean in the feed. The cows are farting methane because they are fed beans, not grass. (Raised the right way on grass can improve the environment and keep carbon in the soil. This means raising larger herds and moving them so that they don’t return to the same place for thirty days.)
In the Netherlands, 3000 food-producing dairy and beef operations have just been forcibly closed in the name of saving the environment. These are places that produced FOOD! This will probably happen here next.
Meanwhile, private jets have not yet been banned for anyone, much less the rich.
Our leaders worldwide are still flying jets to environmental conferences in foreign climes (in a very public way, in case you didn’t realize that all these lockdown rules to save the environment are meant for YOU, not them.) They couldn’t have had an online summit instead of going to Dubai or (for real) to Fiji, an island far away in the South Pacific?
And what happens when everyone is on a “plant based” diet? There are real vitamins (A, D, E) and minerals (zinc for immunity) in animal meat and fats, and eating those help us absorb other vitamins from vegetables and fruits. I can guess that we would all be sick and weak (because the immune system also benefits from fat), and doing our very best imitation of a medieval peasant - scrawny, weak, shuffling.
And you can only have children if you can eat enough fat to tell your body that food is plentiful– that it is safe for the fetus to actually get pregnant.
Please reject these plans to stop our food production on purpose, and move us to a menu (if you can call it that) of cloned beef “meat” or insects or no protein at all (white flour soup for the Medieval peasants!).
Please especially reject these plans in the name of helping the environment. When I see everyone stopping private jet travel and even private planes, then at least I will know that those rich and leaders are at least cognizant of the real problem.

The importance of your company's carbon footprint
We are a Carbon footprint consultant In UAE; the entire amount of greenhouse gases that a person, company, family, or other group emits, directly and indirectly, is referred to by this phrase. An explanation of keywords and statistics about emissions might help you understand why your footprint matters. Learn how to define carbon footprint for your business and the main factors contributing to specific emissions. The "greenhouse effect," caused by greenhouse gases trapping heat in the atmosphere, raises global temperatures. Burning fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide, or CO2, where most GHG are produced. Methane, or CH4, is produced by landfills, agriculture, and animals, as well as during the production and transportation of some fossil fuels.
Tumblr media
As a Carbon footprint consultant In Dubai, It will also be helpful to understand your company's usual consumption patterns. The company carbon footprint calculator from Carbonfund.org allows you to enter your information to determine a straightforward footprint of your area. Go to the next question if you need clarification on the answer or if the question doesn't apply to you. Inputting historical data for your company into a calculator is a more straightforward way to comprehend your environmental impact. Farming, wastewater treatment, and refrigerants create nitrous oxide, or N2O, around 350 times stronger than CO2 but are released in much lesser quantities.
Hydrofluorocarbons, sometimes called HFCs, are fluorinated gases used in air conditioning and refrigeration. This potent GHG's influence is anticipated to worsen in the upcoming years. Fully understanding an organization's overall emissions impact might be challenging because emissions are quantified directly and indirectly. Three scopes are used in the Greenhouse Gas Protocol to categorize various sorts of emissions.
As a Carbon footprint consultant, these include everything that a business now uses and regulates to function. This can involve providing gasoline for your fleet, cooling and heating your building, operating machinery, and more. These track the unintentional consumption of your business, such as the energy you purchase to run your facility or manufacture your goods. Although your company uses resources that produce emissions, the power you have doesn't directly contribute to those emissions. These pollutants affect your company's whole value chain and can be more challenging to evaluate precisely.
We believe as a Carbon footprint consultant In UAE, The purchase of additional goods and services for your company, the transportation of fuel and the disposal of trash, travel arranged through a third party (such as conferences), and the consumption of the goods you produce and sell are just a few examples of scope three emissions activities. Depending on your efforts to decrease emissions, your company's carbon footprint may vary by industry and even within your industry. The buildings built due to the construction industry contribute to 15% of GHG emissions produced by the commercial and residential sectors.
To help you as a Carbon footprint consultant In Dubai, A building company's average carbon footprint will range significantly from that of a small plumbing business and that of a facilities warehouse that uses various delivery methods. The average will differ between residential care homes and hotels with multiple indirect scopes and three emissions sources. You don't need to start from scratch to calculate your emissions because a few excellent tools are already available. First, gather your utility bills or year-end reports for your energy consumption, including natural gas, electricity, oil, and propane.

A North Dakota man accused of feeding moldy hay and denying water to numerous horses that wound up dead or sick has been charged with felony animal cruelty.
Mercer County deputies found 15 lifeless horses and 11 lifeless foals and fetuses over the weekend on the property of Shanan Weigum, of Zap, They additionally discovered a donkey and 39 horses in poor condition, as well as four dead lambs.
The Bismarck Tribune stories that two of the sick horses needed to be euthanized and two were transported for therapy of infections. Zap is positioned about 60 miles (ninety six.5 kilometers) northwest of Bismarck.

This can also be true if you have calves in your possession too. Their stables must be cleaned twice day by day and should be strengthened enough to have the ability to cease the elements from posing a risk to your horses. Remember that a proper environment applies to both the indoors and outside.
In 2020, Stetson began 149 horses at Fon and completed fifth within the standings with 22 wins and a 15 p.c win rate. He then went west to claim leading coach honors at Arapahoe Park last summer with 22 wins from a hundred and fifty starts – he's consistent.
Stetson trains to race; watch for his runners at the entry field and winners circle. Vaughan feels that almost all of her rescue horses originally got here from houses with a properly-meaning person who lacked the experience wanted to take on a horse, particularly one that turned out to have behavioral issues.
Instead of taking the time, assets and energy needed to work by way of those problems, people gave up and returned the horse. I APPLAUD PROFESSIONAL trainers who often absorb abandoned, neglected and/or rescued horses to properly train and put together for a hopefully long-term and good house.
The group has repeatedly demonstrated the facility of partnering with horses—in non-driving interactions—to successfully obtain private progress and therapeutic.
Horses stay in herds, which implies they can get anxious if they’re the one ones round. Older horses are particularly prone to this, and so they usually require a bit extra care than the youthful ones.
When she went to feed her horses the subsequent morning, she knew one thing was incorrect. They say SCRAPS simply showed up and took their animals. Senate handed a win to wild and home horses on Wednesday by approving a Fiscal Year 2019 “mini-bus” appropriations package deal that included protecting language for wild horses and burros as well as an anti-slaughter provision.

In this issue: A 1300 square meter building was built in Dubai; NanoLumens released a new versatile digital display; Korea has built a 99% transparent LED wall; Two-thirds of consumers vote for a personal approach; IKEA opens new format stores; The negative impact of a break-in advertising on brand growth
I equipped the Saudi Expo Dubai pavilion with a 1300 sqm digital screen.
The square building is at an acute angle, decorated with LED strips on the sides, and has a display area of 1302.5 square meters on the facade. An interactive wall is also installed in one of the corridors inside the building, which simulates an aquarium.
The pavilion was built back in 2020, but due to the pandemic, the exhibition was postponed for a year. The opening date is set for October 2021. NanoLumens launches new universal LED displays
The Captivate series from NanoLumens is positioned as a complete solution that works out of the box. The LED display is easy to install, equipped with an HDMI port and a remote control. You can install the screen through standard wall mounts or on a special stand. Available in 120 ", 150" and 180 "diagonals, all with HD resolution. Captivate is designed to be an easy to ship and install display for conference rooms, residential and educational environments. University in Korea Uses 99% Transparency LED Screen
The architects completed the wall of the second floor of the building from architectural glass with built-in RGB LEDs. The brightness of the LEDs is sufficient for the image to be clearly visible in the dark. The project is based on displays from GSMATT. Journalists believe that the technology of placing LEDs in architectural glass has great potential for design solutions in building design and digital signage.
Two-thirds of consumers return to brands that treat them as individuals
OpenText conducted a survey of 2,000 UK consumers to find out how the pandemic has changed customer expectations of brands. 62% of consumers said they were more likely to repeat purchases from brands with a personalized customer experience. The demand for this type of interaction is reflected throughout Europe - in Italy (70%), Spain (63%), France (59%), and Germany (55%).
The survey also touched on the topic of brand preferences. Four out of ten respondents said they only buy from brands that make them feel like they understand their preferences. 72% noted the importance of a simple site search. 48% prefer to shop on sites that fill out the form automatically after the first purchase. However, brands are forced to store data securely: 54% of consumers are willing to pay more to do business with a company that seeks to protect their personal data. Due to the pandemic, almost half of respondents (46%) now feel comfortable working only with digital businesses.
IKEA has launched a new store format, in which it is impossible to get lost
As part of its research on how to keep physical stores relevant in the e-commerce era, the company is testing two new store designs in Shanghai and Vienna. The Shanghai store has been made a pastime, where visitors can socialize in a cozy theater-like space, eat at an eco-friendly farm restaurant, or spend time at Maker's Hub, where store staff help repair old items or create new items.
The store in Vienna occupies five floors and houses a café on the roof. Visitors can buy accessories and small pieces of furniture, and order large furniture with next-day delivery. In both locations, visitors can scan products with smartphones to find out the cost. The route of movement to new stores, unlike the usual IKEA, can be chosen to your taste.
Negative Impact of Ad Interruption on Brand Growth
When finances are tight or a brand's bottom line needs to be increased, ad spend is often the first choice. The Covid-19 pandemic was no different, with marketers taking down ads and cutting costs for months or longer.
However, research by the Ehrenberg-Bass Institute proves that advertising breaks not only lead to a noticeable decrease in sales but also cannot be easily made up.
Conducted in 2018 by Prof Byron Sharp, Prof Rachel Kennedy, Dr. Virginia Beale, Dr. Nicole Hartnett, and Adam Gelzinis, the study builds on existing data tracked media spending and sales of 70 Australian consumer product brands over more than two decades.
There are 57 known cases where a brand has cut all media spending for a year or longer, and some of them have not been advertised for ten years.
The institute estimates that, on average, brand sales fell 16% after one year without ads compared to the last advertised year, and 25% after two years. By three years, the decline reaches 36%, although as the years go on, the steady decline eventually diminishes.
However, according to the report, there is a “widespread” around this average as not all brands experienced an immediate drop in sales. In fact, larger brands tend to continue to grow or remain stable after stopping ads for a year or two, while smaller growing brands quickly change their trajectory and suffer more.
In the sample used in the study, all large and mid-sized brands that grew before the advertising break continued to grow for one to two years. On the other hand, all previously growing small brands stopped growing and sales fell below the baseline.
According to the report, this “size advantage” for large brands coincides with the Institute's research on the impact of greater mental and physical accessibility for large brands.
"As a result, greater mental and physical availability for large brands is likely to better protect sales from declines after ad cessation compared to smaller brands."
Brands that were previously stable prior to the advertising cut, meanwhile, have largely managed to maintain some stability over the next two years, although they began to experience a "significant" decline if they continued to go ad-free after that point.
"Initial stability may be due to investments in marketing activities other than advertising, but also likely due to mostly habitual consumer purchases," the report explains.
However, the drop in sales among major brands is becoming more widespread and "more significant" as brands go longer ad-free, and after four years of ad-free, there are no cases where any brands still reported higher sales. than last ad year.
Every brand that was in decline before it stopped being advertised continued to decline in subsequent years, regardless of its size. If advertising had not been renewed, sales would have halved on average within two years.
Pause for just a year
Of the 57 brands included in the study, 14 stopped advertising just one year before relaunching. Before they stopped advertising, five of these brands were growing, five were stable, and four were in decline.
After just one year of no advertising, three of these brands were still growing, while six were in decline.
Importantly, the study found that resuming ads the following year did not stop this trend. The number of growing brands continued to fall and more and more sales declined so that only two growing brands and three stable brands were able to maintain the upward trend after advertising resumed during the year.
The other five initially growing or stable brands have failed to return to their previous sales trend following the resumption of advertising, suggesting it will take more than 12 months to recover from a one-year hiatus.
“While it may be tempting to cut ad budgets to increase profits, the available evidence suggests that this could lead to lower brand sales,” the report said.
“Without advertising, mental accessibility is destroyed. Silence periods widen the gap between consumers making a purchase and those who last saw a brand's ad. In the meantime, they may be attracted by a competitor's advertising, or their memory-based connection to the brand will collapse, and they are less likely to think of you, especially if they are not regular customers. "
As previous research from the Ehrenberg-Bass Institute has shown, small shoppers are the largest group in any brand's customer base and most important to growth, the risk of such mental accessibility can be an expensive strategy - particularly for small brands.
“However, large growing brands can avoid serious negative consequences in the short term when advertising is suspended, although they could grow even faster with the support of advertising,” concludes Joseph Marc Blumenthal.
