The rain was hitting the glass windshield harder than I cared for. When I left the doctors office it was only lightly raining and you could hear some thunder in the distance. Gripping the steering wheel I gulped in nervousness feeling the car kind of fighting me when I drove through some puddles. Moving one hand to my phone laying In the cup holder I saw it was my husband calling me. “Hey honey, I’m on my way home now.”
“That’s great. Although the storm is picking up here. What did the doctor say about the baby?” Rip asked through the phone where I could hear the barn door shutting behind him meaning they were putting the horses up before it got worse than it already was.
Using my turn signal I stopped at a red light waiting for it to change to green. "She said everything was good. In about 3 months we should have our baby boy or girl." The ranch was only two different turns and one stop sign before I was back on the family home.
The light finally changed from red to green where I slowly hit the gas pedal. Turning my steering wheel I was making the turn but there was a car coming down from the way I was turning. But the car instead was on the wrong side of the road coming directly at me. “Oh my god, Rip!” I screamed before I attempted to move my car but the wheels hit a big puddle where I swerved and the other car still barreled straight into me.
My head hit the steering wheel harshly before it hit a wooden poll that was for the power lines. My phone got thrown and it shattered the screen. Blinking my eyes I lifted my head when the air bag went off. Looking at the mirror there was blood on my forehead and I gasped feeling sharp pain in my pregnant belly. It would be a few minutes before I blacked out on the wheel. Someone was shaking me lightly making me wake up a few hours after that where I could make out my husband’s voice. “Y/n, y/n! Come on, darling wake up. Don’t die on me.”
“Rip….ahhh!” I winced when I felt him gently picking me up by my knees and underneath my arms. I felt so,e blood running down my side meaning that the air bag or something must have cut me.
He slowly walked me to the ambulance while the medics checked me out. Rip pushed my hair back out of my face crying some tears which he never die really unless we were alone. So the bunkhouse guys knew who was the boss. “Sssh you’re alright now. You’re with me, Y/n.”
“Everything hurts, Rip. And I…I was on my way home and the storm….it got worse….where this car was on the wrong side of the road.” I began sobbing through heavy tears.
He wrapped his arms around my body after the medics had went off to read the tests that they had done. Wrapping my arms around his neck I buried my face in the crook of his neck crying. "Excuse me, Mr. Wheeler. But we need to get your wife to the hospital. The baby she is carrying is in distress." One of the medics came over to us explaining with concern.
Rip immediately got in the back of the ambulance with me laying down on the cot. I grasped his hand tightly in mine while we rushed there. The second that we got there I was rolled in with a wheelchair and a doctor bursts into the room. "We will have to do a C - section if we want to save the baby in you."
"Okay...I love you." I croaked up at Rip squeezing his hands before I was rushed into surgery. I'm not sure how long I was out for but I moaned blinking my eyes feeling the medicine they gave me wearing off. Lifting my head up from the pillow I saw Rip sleeping at my bedside. "Rip...Rip wake up."
He rubbed his eyes where I instantly saw tears in his brown eyes. "Oh my gosh, Y/n. Thank God I was so worried...I love you." He kissed the crown of my head tucking hair behind my ear.
"Rip, where's the baby. Is it okay?" I asked him when he brushed his fingers through my hair that was sticking to my forehead.
He sucked in a breath resting his forehead against mine when he spoke his next words. "The baby is in the nick-u. She came out a premi. But she's beautiful. The doctor said she'll have to be monitored for a while. But she's alive honey...she's here."
"I love you...and I'm glad she's okay." Wrapping my arms around his neck I began crying happy tears. Rip wrapping his arms around my waist holding me as close as we could get. Releaved that his family was alright.
Comments really appreciated ❤️

Current State of Affairs|3| Lee Dutton
part two
masterlist
Three: Lies Unraveled.
Tumblr media
After the main course was served, Lee pushed his chair back away from the table and grasped Spencer's hand before standing up and pulling her with him. "Excuse us." He nodded at their fathers and his siblings. Lewis had been sat at another table and he was furious, especially after the showdown he had with Frank, John, Royal, and the boys where he got called out on all of the things that they thought they knew.
He had been under the impression that Spencer was a drama queen that acted out to get attention and what happened between them happened for a reason.
But of course, other people didn't see it that way, especially her father, uncle, and cousins. Before her second cousin Amy's birth, Spencer had been the only girl in the Abbott family so she was spoiled and used to getting things her way and Lewis was going out of his way to make sure that didn't happen with him.
Shaking his head he watched as the older Dutton boy led his fiancée out of the dining room. He wanted to follow but the murderous look that was being directed at him by her cousins and how one of the Ranch hands, Billy stabbed the end of his steak knife into the tablecloth near his fingers stopped him.
He would go after her when this was all over.
**
"Where are we going Lee?" she asked once all eyes were off of them and they were standing in the hallway.
"Just come on." He ordered as he led her out of the house and towards where the tree house, that Spencer had been begged to build when Beth started spending more time over at her house after her mother's death and her father eager to appease any burned feelings by his divorcing her mother who later died. Frank had it built. It was not only a getaway for Beth but for Lee, Jamie, Kayce, and to a point Rip.
"I am not climbing that ladder in this dress or shoes.'
"You have before." He smirked, remembering how they spent New Year the first year that she and Kayce seriously started dating and there had been a fight between Frank and John that they didn't want to see, and so the girls climbed the ladder barefooted, the material of the skirts hiked up way past their knees.
"I was also 16 and hadn't been drinking like I have tonight."
"I will  be right behind you, you know I will never let you fall."
Glancing back once at the party and then at the man that was standing in front of her, she toed off her heels and gathered them in her hand before grabbing a hold of the ladder to start climbing, grumbling as she did so.
Lee smirked and glanced once back at the party himself then turned his attention back to Spencer who was about halfway up the ladder by then.
“Lee?” He shook his head and motioned for her to keep climbing, he didn’t want her to know that he was looking to see if Lewis followed them. But he knew that Rip and her cousins had it in hand and they would take care of it.
***
The treehouse hadn’t changed much since the last time that Spencer had been in it right before she left for Yale.  The blankets and pillows that still lined the floor were still in blue and white, and the pictures from her days at the Rodeo still lined the walls along with her last crown still hanging on the corner of the picture frame.
“Wow, it hasn’t changed in 8 years,” Lee commented as he shrugged off his jacket and dropped it onto the hook.
“No, it hasn’t, I think Leighla kept it like this just in case I came back.” She returned going over to the crown and plucking it up and twirling it between her fingers.
“Why didn’t you come back before now?”
“Because Lee, it hurt too much being here.” Her blue eyes followed him as he pulled his shirt out of his pants and went over to where they had stashed the bottles of red wine.
“If I didn’t see my mama in the corners of the barn.”
She was the one who found her mother in the barn after she killed herself, and was haunted by it for years. Having nightmares that were only soothed by drinking half a bottle of wine. It drove Lewis crazy, he thought that she should get over it, it had been 15 years since it happened and she tried to explain everything to him but he didn’t listen, and just didn’t care. It had always been Lee and Kayce who comforted her throughout it all.
“I was reliving my relationship with Kayce. And the hurt of him picking Monica out of nowhere.”  The crown went around again, the rhinestone sparkling in the dull fairy lights, “I was reliving the hurt that I had from you walking away from me after we had sex like it was nothing. It was reliving those.” She trailed off, her eyes finally dropping to the crown that was keeping her hands busy.
“Reliving what?’ He asked crossing the room handing her a full wine glass and taking the crown away from her, he wanted her to focus on their conversation and not on what was in her hands.
“The feelings I had for you, the overwhelming feelings of I needed to be with you every single day or I would go crazy type of thing.”  She had heard Ryder’s husband Jax refer to their love like that one time and it just made a lot of sense, especially for how she felt about Lee.  In an instant he was in front of her again, his hand stealing to her waist and pulling her into him.
“Spenc, I wanted to stay with you.” He started as she took several sips of her wine trying to slow down her rapidly beating heart. “I wanted to make you mine that day.” He paused to press a kiss to her forehead,  “But I had to think how it would have looked.”
“How it would look? Since when did you care how anything would have looked?”
“Since being in love and wanting to marry my little brother’s girlfriend would have been seen as a slap in the face to him. And we are all under the microscope with our last names and our reputation in town.” His fingers were playing with the zipper that was on the small of her back.
“After mom’s death and your mother’s suicide, we didn’t need any more bad press.”
“Look at you.” She teased, her free hand trailing over the crisp white shirt smoothing out the invisible wrinkles. Trying to be all forwarded thinking.”
“Jamie is rubbing off on me.” He returned, “He wants good press for the Ranch and for his career.” Spencer rolled her eyes, that was one reason why she muted Jamie for so long, he did nothing but talk about his career and how he handled everything for Yellowstone.
“He hasn’t changed in 8 years. Maybe a bit more annoying.”
The older Dutton boy nodded his head with a laugh and slowly started lowering the zipper of the dress. By the end of the night, he was going to make sure she was his. And for her part, Spencer didn’t stop him, this is what she wanted.
She wanted  Lee and wanted a relationship with him for years.
And maybe Ryder and Beth were right, she should do what makes her happy.  For years Lee made her so happy.  Once upon a time she would get giddy just thinking about him. Hell even seeing him standing in the foyer next to his father and brother gave her butterflies.
Butterflies she hadn’t felt in ages.
"We can stop." He started as the empty wine glass she had her hand dropped to the ground and he pulled her in closer to him.
"Don't you dare stop.' She muttered.
***
Lee trailed his fingers over the scars that lined her lower back and hips, scars that he had never seen before. "Lewis." She mumbled as she turned her head to look at him, "He won't ever leave marks where others can see them. He didn't want people to see what he did behind closed doors."  Her fingers grabbed a hold of his and moved it to the still fading red line that was under her bust, "This one happened after I went to see Uncle Royal, and the boys and I did a barrel race. I went down hard and bruised my hip to knee."
"You have had worst.' He commented as he ran his fingers over the scar and the undersell of her breast, 'Broke your collarbone and your leg.'
"I remember." She returned with a shiver, "You went with me in the back of the ambulance with my collar bone."
She vaguely remembered a fight breaking out between him and Kayce and how the older Dutton appeared in her line of sight a few moments after the fight started.
She never thought to ask about it. It was never one of those things she ever thought to ask about.  So she asked the one thing she could, "What're we going to do? I leave in 3 days to go back to New York."
Lee sighed heavily and rolled to where he was resting between her legs, his hand framing her face. "We will figure it out, Spence, I promise, I am not letting you go this time. Not without a fight."
**
Kayce Dutton flashed on the screen of Beth's phone causing her to sigh, they had just left the Abbott Ranch, and the last thing she wanted to do with her father, Jamie, and Rip in the car was talk to him, but she knew that she had too.
"Hey, now isn't really a good time."
'Is it true? Spencer is back home?" Kayce bulldozed.
"It is. Her father is getting married, she is Leighla's maid of honor.' The only Dutton girl admitted that the only thing that she was going to admit to was Lee and Spencer leaving together and not being seen again.
There had been enough fights between the two brothers over Spencer. “You made your choice when you picked Monica over her. Leave her alone.”

NCIS: Origins (Oct. 14, CBS)
NCIS fans may have spent 19 seasons getting to know Mark Harmon’s character Leroy Jethro Gibbs, but the version of the special agent they’ll meet in his prequel series NCIS: Origins is very much his own man. Narrated by Harmon, who also serves as an executive producer, Origins shines a spotlight on a young, grieving Gibbs' (Austin Stowell) early days at NIS Camp Pendleton under team leader Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid) after a devastating experience changes his life forever. “The Gibbs that we find in our show — it's not the guy that the fans are used to,” Stowell tells EW. “This is someone who's going through a lot of pain. He's suffered a tremendous tragedy just four months before we pick up this show, and there's a lot of newness in his life. There's lots of firsts going on right now.” —E.T.

NCIS (Oct. 14, CBS)
It’s been six months since Jessica Knight (Katrina Law) accepted the REACT chief job in California, and her departure has since created what showrunner Steve Binder calls a “chain reaction” with the crew: Timothy McGee (Sean Murray) vies for a deputy director position, and Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) returns to his undercover roots. “The team kind of separates, so picture Parker [Gary Cole] walking into the bullpen and the kids aren't home,” says Binder. It’s not long before a case leads Parker out west, though, reuniting him with Jessica — who may or may not be mulling whether she made a mistake for leaving boyfriend Jimmy (Brian Dietzen) behind. “Under the worst circumstances possible will these two have the talk,” quips Binder. All in all, expect heavy hitting episodes filled with romance, “fun and unusual” pairings, and mystery. Like, who the hell is Lily (Sunnie Pelant)? “I wouldn't be so sure that Parker knows who she is either,” teases Binder. “We don't always remember the scars of our youth.” —Jessica Wang

anyone watch "yellowstone"? i binged it in 2022 and liked it. i love westerns, especially modern interpretations. there are aome issues with writing (i firmly believe that taylor sheridan and his writers can't write women characters for shit; even though i enjoy tf out of beth, she is one-dimensional), but i enjoy it. the fan outrage over the season 5B premiere has been interesting to watch. people have been super unhappy, but i find it cautiously interesting. cautious because sheridan can do some great writing but sometimes he's not the best at writing resolutions. i hope for a good ending to the series as it wraps up at the end of this season.
on a related note, does anyone watch "tulsa king"? i'm enjoying it so far. the only way i can explain it is "what if a mobster starred in a western in oklahoma?" it's good. not much by the way of writing, but there's action and brief suspense. it's enjoyable.
i also watched the first few episodes of the latest season of "abbott elementary". meh. i really enjoyed the first few seasons, but this latest season isn't really making a huge impression on me. what comes to mind is it's the "same old, same old." i will continue watching because there are some great lines and funny scenes. i live for barbara and melissa. i loved the guinea pig episode with melissa. it was absolutely adorable. melissa's accent reminds me of sean barry parson's (instagram and tiktok comedian) hilarious imitation of his brother derrick and it cracks me up hearing it. 🤣 i hope we see more interactions between melissa and her sister. oh, and ava is funny though she seems more toned down this year.
i saw a brief something from "hacks" on instagram. maybe it was a small preview from the upcoming season, which should be released in 2025. i'm excited. the writing in all seasons has been impressively impeccable. i love how the writers manage to keep using the same formula but keep it fresh. i dunno if i'm explaining that right, but that's how it feels to me.
finally, to "only murders iin the building". oof. i wanted to like this season more than i did because i loved the first three seasons and watched tf out of them. but this season didn't slap like the others. it was very poignant at times, particularly the scenes with jane lynch and charles coming to terms with her death. i felt the plot was too convoluted. i loved seeing eugene levy. molly shannon was annoying (and i like her a lot). i absolutely love melissa mccarthy but just couldn't get into her episode at all. i'm intrigued by téa leoni, though, and wonder if this means west duchovny will guest star next year, since she's an up-and-coming actress.
you know when shows start out as charming, quirky, unassuming, and novel because they're new and somewhat unique, so naturally they attract such a huge, devoted fanbase? but sometimes, the show becomes too aware of itself and its success and it starts too show in its writing? it's like the show thinks it has to keep one-upping itelf. that's what it felt like this season. i think that's what "abbott elementary" and "hacks" have largely kept at bay. can't say the same about taylor sheridan. when he feels successful, he just goes and starts up a new series.
all right, to bed with me. enough tv ponderings for the night.

Does it feel like Texas is suddenly taking over the national entertainment industry?
Megaproducer Taylor Sheridan – Wind River, Hell or High Water, and now the blockbuster Yellowstone– raised in Fort Worth, is making Western culture popular again and filling rodeo arenas with city folks.
Tumblr media
A new force in streaming and cable
Another Texas-based player may be an even more disruptive force in the U.S. entertainment industry.
Great American Media (GAM) is suddenly an overnight contender in the U.S. streaming and cable television space, winning regular coverage in industry flagships like Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, and it has the entertainment industry sitting up and taking notice for its success attracting audiences to faith and family content.
“We’re on our way to being America’s most uplifting and inspiring network,” says CEO Bill Abbott, who founded Great American Media in 2021.
Abbott follows a familiar playbook – his own — perfected over 35 years in family entertainment.
Abbott’s resume includes senior leadership roles at Fox Kids, Fox Family Channel, and ABC Family, plus more than 20 years as the architect of the Hallmark television brands. Now he has launched another TV brand in the burgeoning Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, a big community with small-town sensibilities and a dedicated and talented populace, he says.
As the engineer of the next big thing, Abbott pulled on both experience and his friends, instantly creating a crew of iconic TV stars, including Mario Lopez, Danica McKellar, Cameron Mathison, Alexa and Carlos PenaVega, and, of course, Candace Cameron Bure.
These stars are making an appearance at iconic venues across the nation for spotlight events and movie production. Carlos and Alexa PenaVega spent the day at AT&T Stadium in Dallas – right down the road from the headquarters of Great America Media – filming their upcoming holiday premiere movie. Not only is the AT&T Stadium recognizable by many, but this production further solidifies Abbott’s dedication to creating uplifting, quality content.
Today, his startup boasts over 70 million viewers and subscribers to its cable television channels and streaming service, a remarkable feat in any environment. The last three years have been some of the most tumultuous in television and entertainment history, with a record decline in cable subscribers and increasing competition among streaming services. Yet Great American Media is on the rise.
The success is a testament to early mornings, continual conference calls, coast-to-coast travel, and non-stop team building. Every Friday, Abbott hosts a company-wide review of the market and a company performance where he answers employees’ questions nationwide. One staffer describes it as a master class in cable and streaming television.
Great American Media’s Fort Worth headquarters includes production and administrative offices, while its sales and executive offices are in New York. Its member services center, a call center supporting a committed fan base, is in Phoenix.
“One of the most rewarding parts of my jobs is to read viewer emails,” says Abbott, who regularly corresponds with a group of over 25,000 loyal Great American Media Insiders. “Our viewers know what they want and it’s our job to give them a great uplifting experience free of the stress and contentiousness of their already overly complex world.”
Great American Media’s portfolio of brands now includes Great American Family, Great American Pure Flix, Great American Faith & Living, Great American Adventures, and Pure Flix TV.
As the company’s flagship cable TV network, Great American Family, features quality original movies and classic series that are inspiring and emotionally connecting. The business strategy is to align the content and convert cable viewers to streaming subscribers, a riddle many in Hollywood are attempting to solve.
Great American Pure Flix is GAM’s leading subscription on-demand streaming service and the most successful faith-based content provider of its size. A recent Financial Times story described GAM as the Netflix of faith-based content, to which Abbott responds, “Not bad company to be in after only three years.”
Great American Faith & Living features mostly unscripted lifestyle programming that celebrates family-friendly traditions every day and every season.
Great American Media is also home to a FAST (free ad-supporting streaming TV) channel with Great American Adventures, which offers both scripted and unscripted content, including cooking and do-it-yourself programs, and Great American Community, a free direct-to-consumer streaming app featuring short-form original series hosted by well-known lifestyle experts and TV stars. There is also a Pure Flix FAST channel.
“We are creating an oasis in a cultural desert,” says Candace Cameron Bure, star of many Great American Media original programs, including hit My Christmas Hero. She joined Abbott at the film’s screening on Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Tacoma, Washington.
Abbott agrees, saying, “I think that the culture overall needs what we’re offering. And there is just so little content out there that serves family and faith and yet is done in a quality way. It is a very big part of what our mission is and what we do, and the demand is huge.”
Not His First Rodeo
Abbott founded Great American Media in June 2021 with backing from Dallas-based investors, including Dallas businessman Doug Deason. Abbott credits Deason with the company’s steady focus on strategy.
“After running companies that possess varying levels of leadership and judgment exercised at the board and ownership level, I know first-hand that these qualities can make or break a business, and Great American Media’s success starts with Doug in his role as Chairman of the Board,” says Abbott.
Deason, who most recently demonstrated political acumen by leading an initiative to get Texans to set aside $1 billion to expand Texas state parks and co-chaired the expansion of Dallas’ Centennial Parks.
“Without Doug’s unwavering support, vision, and courage, Great American Media would lack the ability to stand firmly behind the values conveyed in our faith and family content,” says Abbott, “and in fact, it’s quite likely the business would never have gotten off the ground.”
Deason credits Abbott, who he points out is unique among broadcasting executives, who more typically are finance types or lawyers and rarely schooled in stories, let alone moral tales. Abbott is an English and Literature graduate of the College of the Holy Cross, a private Jesuit liberal arts college in Worcester, Massachusetts, a foundation he puts to good use by reading every script and participating in creative development with his producers and stars.
Tumblr media
GAM’s CEO is deeply respected in the industry and serves on the boards of the Parents Television & Media Council and the International Radio & Television Society Foundation. He was inducted into Broadcasting & Cable’s Hall of Fame in 2017.
Previously, Abbott served for two decades as a senior executive and then CEO of Crown Media Family Networks, the parent company of Hallmark Channel, Hallmark Mystery, Hallmark Drama, and Hallmark Movies Now.
“We had tremendous success with creating a destination that was family-friendly and themed around the holidays,” explains Abbott. He is credited with creating the Christmas television genre, expanding the network’s romantic comedies, and launching its mysteries channel.
After 20 years, Abbott left Hallmark and looked to Texas to build a new network: Great American Family.
“We’re proud to say we celebrate faith, family, and country,” explains Abbott, “and we have an investor group where we all believe in the mission of family-friendly and faith-based content.”
Equipped with funding and a vision, Abbott acquired Fort Worth’s independently owned equestrian and western channel Ride TV and a music video channel called Great American Country from Discovery. This gave his fledgling dream two traditional cable television linear channels. As the company sorted through its inherited programs and shows, Great American Media was quickly rebranded.
“Now we had something to work with, and we went to work,” he explained.
The entertainment world suddenly noticed when the new GAM network acquired Michael Landon Jr.’s When Calls the Heart spin-off, When Hope Calls,” and began hiring the most well-known talent in the genre to appear in its own slate of made-for-TV movies.
GAM also quickly established Great American Christmas premieres and seasonal rotation around Christmas, including 12 original movies in its first year. Now, they’re producing more than 20 original Christmas movies per year.
Dream Streaming
While building a traditional cable offering, Abbott heard from Sony Pictures Entertainment, one of the world’s largest entertainment conglomerates. They owned Pure Flix, a niche faith-based streaming video-on-demand service with a loyal fan base.
“Pure Flix had been sort of under the radar,” explained Abbott. Sony had only recently acquired the streaming service and began looking for a means of growing it. Sony executives saw the synergies between Abbott’s startup, the Great American Family channel, and their streamer and proposed a merger.
The merger enhanced both platforms’ content library and created synergies between cable and streaming services, meeting customer expectations for a fulfilling, uplifting, and inspiring entertainment experience. Since the merger, SVOD subscriptions have increased, and the customer experience has been enhanced through several platform upgrades, making the streaming service intuitive and user-friendly.
“Our brands and diversified content distribution capabilities have helped us reach substantially larger and broader audiences on each platform, creating a family- and faith-friendly streaming service unlike any other,” he added. “Our business strategy is becoming more and more clear to the industry.”
And they’re noticing. Great American Media ncluded 2023 as the fastest-growing channel on cable television, and its ad sales were up 25 percent. Under Abbott’s watchful eye, the economy balances with creative excellence, allowing the GAM channels to increasingly share the same programming vision, creating the brand synergies critical to growth.
Great American Media’s programming and development team steers all original scripts from concept through production with an eye toward brand integrity. Abbott and the leadership team ensure every frame it controls is on brand as promised.
Great American Media has made headlines for the stars it has drawn in its first few years, including Candace Cameron Bure, Danica McKellar, Trevor Donovan, Jill Wagner, Jen Lilley, Cameron Mathison, and Jen Lilley.
In February, Great American Media announced it signed Emmy Award–winning host and actor Mario Lopez to a multi-picture, multi-year deal to star in content across the company’s vast media portfolio. Lopez will be a major part of Great American Christmas 2024. His first film in the partnership will include a holiday film starring alongside his wife and Broadway star Courtney Lopez. Lopez will continue hosting NBC’s Access Hollywood and Access Daily.
Tumblr media
Abbott cites the dedicated Fort Worth team and the talent across Texas as a critical aspect of GAM’s success, noting that programmers and production crews work around the clock and maintain a high commitment to the brand and its viewers.
As conglomerates continue to obliterate brands, Abbott is on a mission to maintain his company’s commitment to bringing high-quality family content with a faith focus to a new heyday.
“We are not replicating the past; we are creating a new bright future, diverse in genre and format, but all wrapped in high-quality family programming that features romantic comedies, Christmas, drama, faith-inspired lifestyles, and even drama series,” says Abbott. Mysteries are now a cornerstone of the broad programming, with Great American Mysteries’ inaugural launch, The Ainsley McGregor Mysteries: A Case for the Winemaker, starring Cameron Bure, premiering on July 25.
“We’re about faith, family, and country,” said Abbott, “and those values can be reflected in uplifting and inspiring ways across all genres, including mysteries.”

Fic most proud of writing This is a toss up - because I am one of those people who likes their own stuff a lot. :-D But, one of the Big Three: Damnatio Memoriae from the Lucifer fandom, Running Up That Hill for Agenst of SHIELD, and Wrong Side of Heaven for Magnum 2018. Mostly for different reasons, but they all have the same vein of "I got mad at canon and I fixed it".
Lucifer was a roller coaster for me - I loved season 1, season 2 was okay, 3 made me want to throw something at the screen 90% of the time, season 4 WAS EPIC, and I gave up halfway through season 5 and never finished the series. Damnatio was written because I wanted much more involvement of the supernatural, not just a therapy/self discovery mixed in with crime of the week. Also, being raised adjacent to Catholicism, I was getting really irritated that they weren't even using the comic lore, and missing the basic fundamentals of the sources they were pulling from. This story had a lot of reader feedback, to the point of it being almost choose your own adventure. As it went on, I would ask readers to pick from two options that I had rolling around in my head, and it actually worked really well to keep the ball moving with my writing.
Running Up That Hill was again another one where I just got mad at canon, but because I don't like the narrative of "these people are exempt from moral standards while this person is Wrong No Matter What", and I probably would've let it slide except the issue I had was that the one that Wrong No Matter What had all of his life changing trauma as a child and then had it reinforced his entire adult life. Everyone else was an adult when Bad Things happened, and I don't like the hypocrisy of saying "get over it" to someone who legitimately doesn't have the toolset to do that.
Wrong Side I love because this actually was my first foray into something that had no supernatural elements to it whatsoever, and based firmly in reality, and a reality I knew pretty well. I wasn't a huge fan of how the TV show just glossed over the fact that these guys were POW's for a year and a half of a terrorist organization that tortures and kills people with such violence that they became a whole new subsect of terrorism. Like, no, these guys aren't just going to walk away without an issue. And the fact that they were sold out by someone who said to have loved them? AND THEY HAVE NO FALL OUT FROM THIS?! Get fucked, shitty narrative. Suicide in the veteran community is at a high not seen since post-WWII, and these fuckers have the audacity to suggest that you're just being a little bitch if you can't acclimate to civilian life.
7. Favorite ship to write Well, that's pretty easy - none. Romance is rarely done well, and I have never liked anyone enough to relate to the narrative of "Well, I'm throwing all of my friendships out the window because now I have a RomAnTic InTereSt" and it irritates me to no end. if anything, my favorite ship is between Captain Kirk and the Enterprise.
13. Latest fic written/last WIP? A fix it fic for Yellowstone that showcases the brothers Kayce and Jamie, and because I am on a western kick, research for a Magnificent Seven fic that will likely never see the light of day, but I still love the show and the characters, where Ezra (the gambler from Georgia) is a spy for the Union during the Civil War.
20. Hardest Character to write/get the characterization right for? The female characters written by men. And I realize that sounds really weird, but because I swear to god men don't understand being a woman, they're just shit at writing them, and they say/do the dumbest things because guys would do that shit, or, worse, the guys writing the character are using them as hyperboles for women they think did them wrong. And then because the writers don't understand them, I can't understand them, and they wind up being the people that in real life, I'd want to hit with my car. Beth Dutton is a great example of this - some of the things she says that I know are supposed to come off as "strong, powerful woman" make me physically recoil and hide my face with a pillow while watching because What the fuck nobody would ever say that and it's actually cringeworthy. Until women started getting involved in the writing process for Magnum and Lenkov was fired, I absolutely wanted to stab Higgins in 90% of her scenes. Post Lenkov - I actually found her really sweet sometimes, and actually relatable.
That being said, the other ones that I'm not good at because it is so far outside my sphere of comprehension are characters like Angie or Dani off of Will Trent and Prodigal Son. I love those characters, they are complex and unique and I love them, but I don't have relatable experience to them at all, and they are some of the hardest people I have tried to write (which is why I don't have fic in those fandoms even though I love them).

I’m late to the party when it comes to Yellowstone and its offshoots. In fact, I still haven’t seen a single episode of the original show. But I decided to watch 1883 because I have Paramount+ and don’t have Peacock.
1883 may very well be the best show of the year for me. I know it technically began in 2021 but in my eyes it’s a 2022 show. But all this is beside the point. 1883 is the very definition of a journey. Not just a physical journey but an emotional one. Characters develop, relationships are formed, relationships are broken, promises are kept… It’s pretty fucking perfect.
And I will tell you this. I haven’t cried at a movie or tv series like I cried at the final episode of this show…maybe ever. I fucking SOBBED. Bawled. I’m not quite sure why it affected me so much. It just hit every possible note to make me cry like a baby. It ends absolutely perfectly, is somberly. I highly recommend for this one for fans of westerns and those that don’t like westerns. I’m not a western lover, myself. But I sopped this shit up. 2022 has had some excellent television but this (and The Sandman) really hit my sweet spots. Now I have to actually watch Yellowstone. And the new one with Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren.

How Dutton’s Honeymoon
Tumblr media
Request from mackleann on Wattpad. Lee and the reader getting married and the honeymoon.
The Dutton family was certain about two things. One being that the next generation of the family was really important. Two is they absolutely care about their own and that they will do anything for their family. That is the fight I joined when I accepted Lee’s hand in marriage and I don’t regret it one second. Climbing on my horse I grunted shifting my tan cowgirl hat on my head watching my husband get on his own in front of me. He had said that where our honeymoon would be a surprise that he had been planning for awhile now. “Baby I ain’t worried but where are we going exactly. Because you ain’t told me where we are heading.” I shrugged my shoulders kicking my horse in the belly after he did the same having us ride away from the barn. The sun was beginning to set by the time we reached the top of the mountains on the family ranch.
“Don’t worry darling. You will like the surprise I promise.” Lee stopped his horse and he dismounted his slowly coming over to offer me help. Even though I didn’t need his help I took his offer letting him help me down throwing some hair in front of my face. Growing up my father had been a long time friend of the Dutton family so everyone always knew we would end up together. Tucking hair behind my ear I gasped with a light giggle when he stepped around me covering my eyes with his hands slowly having me walk down a hill until he removed them showing me a small cabin a little way’s from the main buildings of the land. “Lee, how did you have this out here and not have me figure it out. This is so great my cowboy.”
Spinning around in his arms I fling my arms around his neck kissing me longingly. The eldest cowboy wrapped his arms around my waist tugging me forward and putting the same passion into the kiss as I had. Lee moved one hand into my hair tugging on it where I jumped up wrapping my legs around his waist causing him to break the kiss. "I suggest we head inside before this goes further wouldn't you say Mrs. Dutton." He sent me that bright smile before I jumped down dragging him by the hand towards the door. I squealed when he picked me up bridal style carrying me over the threshold. "Lee!" We were certainly in for a fun evening.
Comments really appreciated ❤️

Current State of Affairs|2| Lee Dutton
Yeah, I don't have an excuse other then real life has caught up to me and my life kind of fell apart for a few weeks. Things are on the up hill now.
Two: Truth Be Told
“Well Beth, I am saying never. He had his shot and he never took it.” Spencer returned as she picked up her robe and towel, “he respects Kayce too much.” Beth’s eyebrows knitted together in confusion as she dropped down on the chair that had been pulled out from the vanity. “What do you mean he had his shot?” There was silence as Spencer went into the bathroom and turned on the water for the shower.
“Just that, he had his chance and didn’t do anything.” She went to shut the door to have some sort of privacy but was stopped just as quickly by Beth, this was all news to her.
“Whoa, whoa, you can’t just drop a bomb like that on me and then not say anything else.”
“Remember that weekend that Kayce and I broke up?”
 “Yeah.”
She remembered it all too well, Kayce and their father had gotten into a fight, and Kayce decided that he was done with everything. He had snuck out in the middle of the night and went to the Abbott Ranch and talked Spencer into leaving with him.  They were at the gas station when Rip and Lee found them and Spencer had her choice and she had gotten into the truck with Lee and Rip.  And three days later Kayce showed up with Monica and shattered whatever was left of their relationship.  Spencer had stormed out of the house and Lee had followed her but not after throwing a couple of punches at his brother.
“And how he followed me to the barn?” Seeing her friends nod, Spencer carried on, “We had sex and then the next day, it was just business as normal. I don’t know what hurt worse. Kayce marrying Monica or Lee doing that. And honestly, Beth, if Lee would have said the word, I would have stayed no questions asked.”  Without waiting for a reaction from her best friend, the girl turned to shut the door to shower in semi-peace.
**
Beth waited until the shower was on fully and she could hear Spencer singing along to the Elvis song that was playing on the Bluetooth speaker before she picked up the phone to call her brother with every intention of cussing him out. If he had manned up and done something about it, then Spencer wouldn’t have had to run to the East Coast and stayed away longer than Beth herself had.
Not doing anything right or about their feelings seemed about right with her brothers. Lee threw himself into his work at the ranch. Kayce joined the military and Jamie, well he was a whole different sort that she really tried not to figure out.
She dialed her oldest brother’s phone number, her anger getting the best of her.
It rang once, twice, and then Lee's voice filtered the room. "What Beth?"
"You fucked  Spencer then left her?!"
"She is here?"
"Of course she is idiot! Her dad is getting married! She is the maid of Honor." She had seen the series of pictures from Spencer's Instagram of Spencer, Leighla, and several others going shopping in New York for the bridal fittings and knew that she was taking part in the wedding as the maid of honor, and for once she was happy that her friend was in the same time zone, it was going to make their weekly facetime calls so much easier.
"You need to make this right Lee, her boyfriend is here and he is." The unspoken words about Spencer's relationship hung in the air. The whole Dutton family knew about the man who was with Spencer and how much her father and stepmother hated him. On more than one occasion John had encouraged Lee to go out to Yale and get Spencer.
But for whatever reason Lee refused. Now, though, there was silent hope that he would do something about this. "You need to man up and do something before that son of a bitch kills her." The water shut off and Beth quickly disconnected the call and popped the cork on the bottle. She quickly filled two glasses and was ready to hand one over when she came into the room.
***
Lee was uncomfortable wearing the fancy clothes that his brother Jamie made him put on and even more so when he was surrounded by other people like his younger brother.
"Stop fidgeting.' John ordered in his ear, he  had just  come back in from the barn with Spencer's father and uncle, "We don't have to stay long."
"But I hope you stay long enough to visit with me Uncle John," Spencer's voice came from the stairs behind them and Lee felt his heart leap to his throat, she was even prettier than in his memories or in the pictures that he saw on Jamie's Instagram feed.
"Spence." His father greeted her as she came down the rest of the steps and into his arms for a hug. He lifted her off the ground and pressed a kiss to a cheek.
"The North looks good on you," Jamie added as he pressed his own kiss on her other cheek.
"Sure also raging asshole  does too." She returned before letting Rip greet her.
"Don't start with that Rip." She started as if she knew what the enforcer was going with before he even started. She wasn't in the mood to deal with it and she wasn't in the mood to deal with her boyfriend pouting that he got his ass handed to him by her family.
"Not until after the weddin'."  5 hours back in Montana and she had already slipped back into the old Spencer, she wondered if this was how Ryder felt when she went back to Charming.
Lee could feel almost how she steeled herself as she turned to look at him. "Hey, Lee."
"Hey, angel." He returned, his feet carrying him over to her and to do the same greeting that his father and brother did but her head turned at the last second and their lips met in a brief kiss.
"I am sorry.' She started but he waved her complaints away before looking over her head at the man who was coming down the stairs behind her. "Release her."
"Who the hell are you to demand anything?" Rip asked, from what he gathered from Beth and from what he heard from Spencer herself, he knew who it was and to him, the Abbotts as well as the Duttons were his family now and he would go to any lengths to protect his family.
"I am Lewis. Her boyfriend." Lee's hand tightened on Spencer's hip and he pulled her closer to him and Rip took a step forward standing in front of them.
"Oh come on Grace," Lewis complained, he wasn't smart enough to go towards her in the middle of a group of protectors.
Especially ones that looked ready to kill him at second notice.
"Why don't you and I go and have a talk." John demanded, "And let Spencer and the boys catch up." "Who the hell are you?" The smaller man asked, his hands clenched into fists at his sides.
"Lewis, this is John, he's my father's best friend and my godfather," Spencer answered, all too familiar Spencer Abbott's smirk was starting to form.
"This is Rip Wheeler." She went on, still firmly being held by Lee and Jamie who shifted ready to defend them if need be, "He works for Uncle John and is basically the right hand for him and Lee."
Lee's fingers dug into the shiny black material of her dress, in an effort not to fully lose his temper. "This is Jamie, he is the reason why I went to Yale and became a lawyer." Her hand that wasn't holding onto Lee's wrist squeezed Jamie's free one.
"And this is Lee.'
There was a realization of who Lee was dawning on Lewis' face and that barely held-on temper snapped he took massive steps forward only to be pushed back by Rip who was furious. As far he was concerned, Spencer was family and he was going to do anything and everything he could to protect her.
"Do not touch her!" He spat as Lee slowly moved away from the group, he wanted to defend her and handle Lewis but his first and only concern was Spencer and her safety. "Lee, take her into the dining room." Frank commented, "Leighla and the girls are waiting for her."
"Yes sir." Lee returned as he turned them around and steered her towards the rapidly filling dining room, casting angry looks at anyone who dared to get too close to them
"How bad is it Spence?" He asked as he pulled her chair out for her, he was already sitting at the table but he was going to take Lewis' seat to sit next to her. And the man could deal with it if he even came in from the barn.
"Bad. Rhett almost gutted him like a fish." She answered. The older Dutton son undid the button on his jacket and sat down next to her, his arm settling on the back of her chair. "He came out to the ranch in Wyoming to get me after my visit and lost his shit on me.”  She shifted so she was sitting closer to him, ‘Rhett and Perry talked me into doing a barrel race. And I went down hard. Bruised my hip and thigh.” Lee met his sister’s eyes and saw the furious way that the muscle in her jaw was working, of course, Beth knew more than what she was letting on.
She normally did and now like always it was going to be up to him to get to the bottom of it and save Spencer. Like he should have years ago.

TAG 9 PEOPLE YOU WANT TO KNOW BETTER
favourite colour(s): black, purple, dark blue, hunter green
favourite flavour(s): Sweet. I love sweet things.
favourite genre(s):  fantasy, romance, angsty things... Love when the romance is more a subplot though... but definitely fantasy. Not too big on sci-fi, because of the science part of it, and I do lean more towards a love of romantasy ;)
favourite movie(s): Um... I don't really know? Disney movies. Star Wars. Titanic is one I can watch all the time, no problem. Harry Potter movies are another that I can just... put on and enjoy for any reason. Oh and Hunger Games.
favourite series: TV series? Book series? What are we talking about? If it's TV... I was a huge SPN fan for a long time. Also The Originals. TVD and Legacies was... okay, but not comparable to Originals. I'm really enjoying catching up on Grey's Anatomy, and watching Yellowstone. Wednesday was also a fun one, and House of the Dragon gave me what I loved about GOT--Targaryens and dragons. hah. And of course, Shadow and Bone.
If it's about a book series you want to know... ACOTAR, Grishaverse, FBAA world are probably my top ones right now. I'm enjoying others, a few standalone things, but I do love the Mortal Instruments and all of those books. I'm just... very behind on them oops.
favourite music: Taylor Swift probably gets the most use, but I generally like country (think 90s-2000s country, like when I was growing up) mostly for the story telling of it. Rock is good, too, but I'm a little more picky there. Classic rock you can't go wrong with hah (and I blame SPN for a good chunk of that, not to mention my dad).
last song: Whatever was playing at the end of s2e5 of Yellowstone in the credits, if I'm being specific. I had my Alexa shuffling "top country" earlier this morning. That was the last of it, but I couldn't tell you what the song itself was.
last series: TV series? Yellowstone. Book series? (that I read or finished?) Read (because I still have more to go) would be the Never After series from Emily McIntire. Finished would probably be up-to-date on FBAA (just not the latest prequel one, ALITF).
last movie: I honestly don't know. I don't watch many movies... Probably Star Wars when it was on TV.
currently reading: Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo. Will probably also start Kingdom of the Cursed by Kerri Maniscalco soon. And when I only have my phone on me, not an actual book, I'm reading Glint by Raven Kennedy.
currently watching: Right now? Yellowstone.
currently working on: Trying to find a new job, trying to awaken and figure out my characters for my novel(s), trying to get the muse cooperating on my RP blogs to write them and work on drafts...

1923 Cast
If you are a Yellowstone fan, then you likely already know about 1923. But if you don’t, keep reading! In 2022, it was decided to expand the Yellowstone universe with the release of 1923, a prequel series. The show explores life on the ranch in the 1920s for the early Duttons, especially among a changing climate in Montana. We see the family dealing with issues such as drought, prohibition, cattle theft, and general lawlessness. This is also the time of Montana’s Great Depression, which had already begun here about a decade before the Great Depression hit the rest of the country.
Read on to learn about the full cast of characters that you will see on screen in the show 1923!
Harrison Ford as Jacob Dutton
Harrison Ford is a well known American actor, famous for the Indiana Jones series and his role as Han Solo in Star Wars— among many other roles! In 1923, he plays the role of Jacob Dutton. He is married to Cara Dutton, and together, the couple raise John and Spencer, their nephews, after the deaths of their parents. Their parents were Jacob’s brother James and his sister in law Margaret. After their deaths, Jacob also takes over as the patriarch of the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch.
