I had a know deficiency in B vitamins when my specialist put me on nsaids+omeprazole combo, what the fuck. (I've since switched - now I handle my reflux-ish symptoms with famotodine when I can get it, it's been three months since the last time my pharmacy found a box for me.)
Im sorry if you dont have the spoons for this, please ignore- but don't they even give omeprazole to help protect your stomach???? Ive known people here in the uk (including myself) who're on nsaids (like ibuprofen or its bigger, harder brother naproxen) are almost always put on medications to protect the stomach lining- i remember i suddenly doubled up in pain, and the dr was like...how long u been on these? Have an omeprazole.
Yeah, I was on those long term at one point. It didn’t stop my insides from perforating from all the nsaids I’d been prescribed. And it was actually my UK doctors who started me on the ibuprofen + omeprazole cycle of pain management neglect that led to my insides bleeding.
Fun fact: you also shouldn’t be on omeprazole long term from about the age of 12-30 because it can lead to b vitamin deficiencies — which is the other thing that almost killed me.
So yeah, it helps. But it’s not a 100% preventative.
#the chronic health tag#to be fair to my specialist she /had/ to put me on nsaids before we could try something else#and she switched me asap

the vet is concerned about inducing vomiting because egan can’t open his mouth more than 2/3rds of the way (why he has an appt with internal medicine specialist next week) and because of his esophagus’s inability to, uh, close. oh, and because he has a raging case of acid reflux we have yet to get a true handle on. he still vomits stomach acid at least once a day even with the famotodine and metoclopromide
so she’s opted to do an x-ray. if she sees something she thinks could impact and/or hurt him, she’ll risk inducing vomit. if she thinks he can pass it she’ll send him home with fiber-rich food and a pat on the butt
