some commentary on the designs/better look at the card text under the cut!

SHATTERED WING:

SHATTERED-WING FUSION DRAGON EARTH Level 8 Dragon Fusion/Effect Monster 2700 ATK / 2000 DEF 2 EARTH Monsters on the field, except Tokens If this card is Fusion Summoned: you can target 1 face-up monster on the field; it loses 600 ATK, and its effects are negated. During either player's Battle Phase (Quick Effect): target 1 monster on the field whose current ATK is different from its original ATK; destroy it, and if you do, this card gains ATK equal to the difference until the end of this turn. You can only use each effect of "Shattered-Wing Fusion Dragon" once per turn. Once per turn, during the End Phase, if this face-up card you controlled was destroyed by battle or your opponent's card effect and sent to the GY this turn: You can banish 1 EARTH Machine monster from your GY; Special Summon this card.

I love this big freak. Basically just "what if Clear Wing couldnt fly but still didnt have legs." Massive lizard dragging itself after you. Fusion!Yugo's monsters do a lot of ATK modification--in my mind's eye Shattered Wing spears through an effected monster to destroy it with its Battle Phrase effect. Yugo's also got a bit of a persistence predator type motif, hence why Shattered can revive itself in the End Phase... you're not getting away from it that easily <3

PERFECT WING:

PERFECT-WING FUSION DRAGON LIGHT Level 10 Dragon Fusion/Effect Monster 3400 ATK / 2700 DEF 1 EARTH monster + 1 Dragon monster whose original Level is 7 or higher If this card is Fusion Summoned: the ATK of all other monsters on the field becomes halved. Once per turn, when an opponent's Special Summoned monster activates its effect (Quick Effect): you can negate the activation, and if you do, you can equip that monster to this card. Gains 600 ATK for each monster equipped to this card by this effect. If this card battles an opponent's monster whose current ATK is different from its original ATK, your opponent's cards and effects cannot be activated until the end of the Damage Step. You can only use each effect of "Perfect-Wing Fusion Dragon" once per turn. If this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: both players take 1000 damage, then you can target 1 EARTH Fusion Monster in your Graveyard and Special Summon it, ignoring its Summoning conditions.

perfect wing... i love you perfect wing.... its wings are made of different chunks of glass haphazardly fused together, a reflection of Yugo desperately trying to jam square pegs in round holes and hoping something, anything, he can do will finally make him 'perfect' in the Professors' eyes. If he can just be perfect he can have more outside time. Faculty won't look at him like he's an animal. Everything will be ok...... :(

It spears monsters with its radioactive tail and drags them into itself, uses their powers to further polish its wings and begin to fly, until it's defeated and it crashes violently back to the ground, breaks all over again. You can't keep chasing perfection forever.

Design wise Perfect Wing is largely inspired by uranium glass <3 And nasty glowy radiation in general (its three little back 'wings' deliberately loosely resemble a radioactive hazard symbol when seen from above <33) And glass fusing!

AU that's been eating away at my brain for the past several weeks that spawned from @cyberdragoninfinity and I being like "what if the yuboys swapped dimensions" -> "do the bracelet girls swap too" -> "they swap but also to different dimensions"

standard yuto & rin are childhood friends and go to you show together; the other characters don't swap dimensions so rin is skip's kid and yuto is yusho and yoko's kid. yuto runs a "performedieval" deck themed around renaissance fair-type actors. rin runs a fire-attribute spellcaster "bellodious" deck themed around hot peppers 🌶️

xyz yuya & celina know each other through school (and yuya knows shay through her by extension) but they frankly Aren't Very Close. yuya runs a "phantom bards" deck with little ghostly animal musicians and celina runs a "lyriline" deck with catgirl rockstars.

synchro yuri & lulu grew up and lived together until yuri decided to steal the duel runner they built together and enter the friendship cup on his own (making him the current champion). yuri runs a plant-type "speedling" deck themed around rapid-growth plants, lulu runs a winged beast-type "windwing" deck with arctic birds.

fusion yugo & zuzu are unlikely friends (in the sense that zuzu isn't "allowed" to hang out with yugo but does anyway). neither of them are supposed to leave DA which zuzu thinks is super unfair, so she sneaks yugo out with her to go check out the standard dimension. yugo runs a "predapuzzler" deck with monsters based on puzzles, toys, & predatory animals, and zuzu runs a "lunalull" deck with flowergirl monsters that bloom at night

Making theories for a character unlock event in Duel Links sounds nuts but that's just the effect Yuri has on people.

So I had a thought earlier about Yuri's behaviour in this event, and I thought of something that sounds nuts but makes so much sense-

I think Yuri is parallel playing.

So we know how it works in Duel Links. In both the gameplay and in-game narrative, everything is decided by duels. You advance through stages by dueling, the characters can reach new areas and by extension other characters by dueling. And in the most common Yugioh logic, you make nice with people and become friends through dueling.

And what does Yuri keep repeating in this event?

Yuri is repeatedly asked if he's going to turn people into cards again, and he responds almost exactly the same everytime; with flippancy, disinterest, treating it as a thing he did for fun in the past but doesn't anymore. Because he's found something even more fun to spend his time. If he's completely honest can be debated, but it's the insistence he keeps repeating this with that makes me lean he's being truthful.

You play Duel Links to have fun. The running theme in Arc V is that dueling is to make people smile, to have fun. Yuri's definition of fun is very twisted, but this is unquestionably his tamest way of seeking entertainment. Even in his unlock dialouge, he talks about having as much fun as everyone else, and do as he likes here now and forever.

Yuri is doing the same thing all the other characters have done until now. He's just doing it in his own twisted way. But he appears to not have had any interest in other people until now, so what changed?

Well-

He fused with the others. Appeared to be genuinely at peace, to the point Yuya and Yuto ask if he's really returned to how he was before they became one. Yuri is notably different in his behaviour depending on if he's talking Yuya, Yuto or Yugo VS any other character. He's bantering with them, not just taunting them.

I think the Yuri we saw post-fusion, and the one during the show's run and the one we see in this event, really are one and the same, it's just different facets of Yuri's personality showing through.

We know Yuri hasn't had real friends before. He has a very warped view of people, and himself. His response to the other characters talking about Academia's wrongdoings, him kidnapping Rin and Ruri, makes that very obvious.

So say he does find people he likes, or enjoys being with. He wouldn't have any experience of how to bond or spend time with them if it wasn't with, say-

Dueling.

Yuri is also extra excited to duel the other yuboys, even as his usual Yuri-ness leaks into it. Yuya especially, as the only person to have ever defeated him.

So. Parallel playing.

Yuri is doing the same thing as everyone else, like a cat bonding with their owner by doing the same thing they are. Because Yuri gets dueling, so that's an easy way to spend time with the people he found a sense of peace with.

WAKFU REDESIGN SERIES PART 3 - ADAMAÏ

Hiya, Im back lmaooo - took me long enough

I have been struggling with Ad's and Am's design so much. I dont know why. With Amalia, Im going to have to start over- again- 4th times the charm Im sure - but I finally finished this little guy!

ADAMAÏ IS MY FAVORITE CHARACTER GUYS IM SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS I LOVE HIM SM

But anyway, here is the final (human form) design:

Im aware he has multiple forms since hes, you know, a shapeshifter, and Im going to add them i promise but im like super tired and burnt out from the rest of my mortal life rn

Anyway, to the DESIGN.

Honestly, Adamais og design kinda sucks. Im sorry (not rlly). He doesnt look similar to Yugo at all - YES I KNOW HES A DRAGON - which bothers me a lot, even his color scheme is a lot different from his literal twin...

In my version, I wanted Ad to look deer-like at first, since I gave Yugo deer features, but then I drew him over and over again until I got this fusion of a moth and a lamb or smthing..

I don't know, but I really like it!

The outfit he's wearing is actually what I plan to be an official eliatrope/dragon robe? Both Grougal and Qilby will be wearing it and - potentially - Yugo in season 3. It has some portal imagery (the spiral on the back), and I don't know I just think it's neat!

ALSO WAKFU FRECKLES-

Season 1

Ad has been raised by Grougaloragran (least complicated name ever, wtf Ankama :3) and with Eliatrope/Dragon traditions, so hes very knowledgable of the now dead culture and values it very much. He loves talking to Yugo about it (he gets almost bored sometimes, but he would never admit it to Adamaï).

He, just like Yugo, is extremely curious and loves studying the way Wakfu works and its limits.

And mainly, he loves Grougal, whom he sees as an idol and a father figure. Which is why hes so hurt when he gets killed by Nox.

It feels like the whole world is collapsing on him. His mentor, care-taker, father, LITERALLY THE ONLY OTHER "PERSON" HE EVER INTERACTED WITH AND THE ONLY OTHER DRAGON ALIVE, is gone.

Adamaï has noone. Well- almost noone. Theres this little 12 year old Eliatrope, his only hope, his only anchor.

And he asks you: "Uh, sorry, whats your name again?"

Season 2

HAHSHA LETS TRAUMATIZE THE BOY!! (Even more than he is) Like I said, Adamaï values his culture and people very much, so I assume he would get very, I mean extremely attached to Yugo. However, Yugo is not actually interested in the same things Adamaï is interested in, which makes him a little bit more avoidable of Ad than he should be, given his emotional state.

Not that we blame him. So instead Ad seeks out a new anchor, a new mentor, a new... idol. Who is that you may ask?

Well, it's Qilby of course. Now here's where the funny trauma part happens, because Adamaï starts blurring the line between Grougal and Qilby.

Qilby's mistakes suddenly don't matter as much because Adamaï cares about him as much as he cared about Grougaloragran even though they don't know each other that long (which is the core of the problem).

Anything he'll be does that is morally questionable suddenly isn't bad, because that's not the mentor that Adamaï was raised with ‐ he trust Grougal completely, so why should Qilby be aby different?

So when Qilby betrays him, Adamaï is all the more surprised and hurt. It doesn't help that he really doesn't want to hurt Qilby: Even though he finally realizes that Qilby is a bad person, Adamaï still sees him as an anchor. He might be bad, but other than Yugo he's the only other person Adamaï has.

So of course he loses the fight, of course he gets captured – he doesn't actually want Qilby to get hurt.

Season 3-4 (5?)

Okay let's make one thing clear, I'm a bit of a hater.

Like I genuinely really dislike season 3 and what it has going on with making Adamaï a villain? I really don't think it fits his character, and I would much prefer for the story to have Yugo and Ad grow closer and revive their culture despite all the horrors and terrible things that have been bestowed up on them - But the writers have decided to go the obvious evil twin route which honestly makes my blood boil..

so I don't think I will be even considering rewriting season 3? I think to make it likeable for myself - as this is a self-indulgent project - I would just have to make my own season 3?

If that makes sense?

Dark Salvation

(A starter for @thenotsoclearwing)

Pretending just to be one of his fragments was exhausting... He'd stopped being just his Synchro Dimension Counterpart a long time ago, and his real mission was beginning. For now, he needed to try and force Yuya and Yugo to fight... Whoever won, he only needed to get them to the Fusion Dimension, and he'd be whole. Ripping out more live cables, the capacitor exploded. "Let's see you try escaping now, Jean... This should also really mess up your plans." He began sneaking off, before hearing something rushing at him. "Mirror Force!" The Goyo monsters blew up. He discarded the spare card, rapidly changing decks before he was grabbed from behind, a hiss of something escaping from an aerosol, a gas...

His vision went blurry as he gagged and coughed, his body felt like lead. "Anesthetic... You weaklings!" He snapped, trying to move as one of the Duel Chasers picked him up. "The psychic duelist's secure." The officer told Jean-Michel. So, he needed a new weapon now that musclebound freak was out of commission... Letting out a psychic scream, he tried to force himself to move with willpower. "I said let go and fight me, cowards!" Saburo snarled, trying to activate his Duel Disk as he was carried away, feeling himself being put in cuffs so he wouldn't summon something. They had gone down a few corridors when he suddenly hit the floor as he was dropped by the officer holding him. His blurry gaze focused on the figure that made them stop. "Yuya...?" But no... He could feel the rage coming off him, Yuya wasn't capable of such raw anger. Even when upset, this was something different.

Duel Links has me Rin and Yugo pilled again and now I'm thinking of your dimension switch AU and I GOTTA ask, now that we got a better idea of their dynamic.... do they start bitching at each other in the AU at some point. I think it could be very funny. In the face of fear and a unhinged guy out to kidnapp her Rin starts throwing insults and Yugo thinking it is So Fun. I just want them to be friends in every universe, even if its a unhinged friendship that should not have happened but still did and no one knows how.

Also I just now realised Yugo's "It's not fusion it's Yugo" catchphrase now could turn into something like, "it *is* fusion/Yugo". "Yugo deeesu", said in the most threatening yet relaxed way possible. I love this guy he's so fun.

OHOHOHOHH i need to think about the potential of dswap rin and yugo--they DO meet but since the story beats of canon arc-v are a little scrambled yugo's never actually out to kidnap the girls. Rather he mostly stays locked up in his Academia dorm like a tiger pacing a cage (this AU's Leo making an actual dedicated effort to keep the Zarc pieces from meeting lol) ...at least until he sneaks out to follow Zuzu to Standard and ends up going a little wild in the streets during the ALC finales :^)

he ends up running into Rin and dueling her and she BEATS HIS ASS with her pepper witches, something he is, Extremely Unfamiliar With !! And it's gonna stick with him For A While!!

fusion!yugo really needs his own post to get into the intricacies of whats wrong with him but he is a deeply unsocialized animal who eventually gets reclaimed by Obelisk Force and taken back to DA, but he's definitely chomping at the bit wanting to rematch that strange feisty girl from Standard who made him LOSE. i like the idea of 'postcanon' maybe them having some odd sort of friendship...this yugo's track record of odd postcanon friendships really becoming A Bit Longer Than You Would Think (🐩)

I’m sure many of us are familiar with the similarities the Yu-boys have to their adjacent protagonists, some very much so (Yugo/Yusei) and some not quite so much (Yuto/Yuma). But the Yuri Duel Links event has got me thinking… they’re really leaning into the similarities Yuri has with Judai.

He’s always had a fair amount of parallels. There’s the obvious “they both went to a duel academia,” but there’s also the fact that they’ve both had major hands in carrying out mass genocides (jeez), or that they both underwent soul fusions with other character(s), or Judai and Yuri being the only characters to use Super Poly (except that one flunky in Zexal who randomly had it in his hand for one shot…) showing how Yuri is carrying on Judai/GX’s legacy as the Fusion counterpart (and 1/4th of another Supreme King)

OR, most relevant here, their focus on having fun above all else.

Yuri’s constant insistence that he’s here to have fun (which was a part of his character in the show, but it’s focused on much more in the event) and showing no interest in any “obligations” he may have outside of having fun (like apologizing or trying to repair any of the damage he’s done. You go girl give us nothing.)

It’s all very much akin to a pre-season 3 Judai who had little to no sense of responsibility and was almost solely motivated to duel (even when he really shouldn’t have been) by his desire to have fun. And while Yuri’s idea of fun is a little more sadistic than Judai’s (a little more like Yubel, even?) the point is the same. 

This line that Yuri says is what got me thinking deeper about this, because I remembered Judai says a near-identical one. (Apologies for the crusty png.)

Obviously they’re not going through the exact same development here. Judai’s arc is about being carefree to a dangerous extent, then swinging to the opposite extreme when he is suddenly saddled with very heavy burdens, and ultimately finding balance between the two: regaining his love of dueling while also bearing a sense of responsibility. Yuri’s arc (if you can call it that, it’s the beginning of one certainly) seems to be a more straightforward “discovering there are things that are fun and also do not come at the expense of other people’s lives” type deal, with a little bit of learning who the hell you’re supposed to be now that you aren’t part of a military school dictatorship or Zarc/Yuya’s soul amalgam sprinkled in. He’s discovering new toys! Everyone clap for him please.

Though it’s not just that fun things don’t have to come at the expense of others… but that it’s MORE fun when they don’t. And that’s the real step forward that Yuri makes in the event. Which honestly fits and doesn’t feel forced, which is something I was concerned about. That boy is a little cockroach! Let him crawl around and make people scream like he always does. Just… maybe some of those screams are of other people having fun too. Maybe. Someone should probably still make sure they're okay, though.
