anything by zoe ireallydidthistomyself. i’m biased bc all her fics draw a lot from concepts we discuss, but she writes SUCH gorgeous fics that focus on cas and jack’s relationship and characterizes dean and cas’ relationship SO well. i think that misty water-colored memories and laugh at the gilded butterflies are my favorites. 

a winters tale by northernsparrow is about dean taking care of a comatose cas and reading his journal from his time after dean kicked him out of the bunker. another one of those rare and beautiful destiel fics that hold dean accountable for the times he hurt cas and the relationship grows because of it.

trials and tribulations of raising a nephilim by sickandtiredofyou. a really REALLY sweet dean and jack fic that takes place between cas’ death in watchtower and his return in tombstone. its so ❤️️ ❤️️ ❤️️

wait and see by oncethrown. the fact that there are a BUNCH of plot important OCs but i still love it is testament to how good this fic is. its canon divergent after swan song, and the characterizations of dean and cas are like right up my alley. its super long and super good.

**********SPOILERS BELOW**********

The last time we saw Rick & Morty… It was ‘Our Blessed Year of The Rick’ October 4, 2015, and literally just 3 days shy of 18 months the series returns unannounced on April Fools Day ON REPEAT… Because WHY NOT?! Now, I know as well as anyone that you can’t rush genius, but HOLY FN’ SHIT, Justin Roiland, Dan Harmon… 18 Months? Are you trying to starve us??? Of course years could go by (not that you should ever put this theory to test) and I think that we would all gladly jump right back on board the 'Rich & Morty’ train 🚂 but let’s not ever wait that long again, mmmmhkay?

It’s been a long time and since we watch a helluva lot of television (I hear it rots your brain, btw), it’s kind of hard to remember exactly where the show left off… But it’s important, because 'The Rickshank Redemption’ more or less picks up where the S2 finale left off. If you remember Rick and company had reluctantly traveled very far for Birdperson & Tammy’s beautiful wedding that ended up going very, VERY badly. Tammy revealed herself to be a spy for The Galactic Federation, which is devastating to Summer who had been thinking that Tammy was her best friend… And make that double for Rick, because essentially the whole thing was really a ploy to get him there to arrest him… After the tragic death of Birdperson and a weird search for a new home planet, Rick eventually sacrifices himself after Jerry turned him in. Fucking Jerry!

Fast forward… Earth is mad different. The Galactic Federation has taken over and everyone is miserable, except for Jerry who is finally 'The Man’ in this shitty world. It can’t be too bad tho, because all they eat is pills… So I mean, there IS a slight upside, I suppose… I guess it all depends on what those pills actually do. We never find out, because meanwhile Rick is being mind-probed by The Galactic Federation and you know Rick, that man always has a Plan B… And C… And D… And E… And so on and so forth. He transfers conciseness through the Bug-Person who is mind-probing him… Then through The Commander, and about around this time Summer & Morty are already on their way to try and break him out after they dug up one of his bodies that contained portal gun, but they are captured by the Citadel of Ricks who are alerted by the compromised portal gun.

Never fear, y'all. Rick just activates Plan F and then Plan G & H, destroys his original body and literally has a shoot-out with himself, kills mad Ricks, saves Summer & Morty and returns to Earth to take down The Galactic Federation. Damn, this man is good… Rick returns home and Beth serves Jerry with a big fat promise of a DIVORCE and kicks him out. I’m not sure if this is the last we’ve seen of Jerry, but I’m really rooting for the return of Sleepy Gary, I always thought those two were meant for each other… Such a beautiful thing they so briefly shared on those warm, fleeting moments on that boat.

Did somebody say McDonalds? Okay, so I left out the most important part of the whole damn episode… Remember in the late 90’s when McDonalds briefly had that exclusive limited time sauce to promote the movie Mulan… The Mulan Szechuan Dipping Sauce? Yeah, me neither… But apparently that’s the source of Rick’s EVERYTHING. It’s basically his reason for living. It must be some real good shit because Rick only likes things that make his brain tingle in a special way… So as Jerry hangs his head and leaves the Sanchez house with his still tucked between his legs, Rick goes apeshit on Morty… Telling him he doesn’t care if it takes 9 seasons (great news!), he will make it rain all the Mulan Szechuan Dipping Sauce in the world (or something like that).

Cue evil laughter because back on whatever planet they’re on, Evil Tammy, who Summer once devotedly supported, has hatched some sort of evil plan… And DUN-DUN-DUN-DUNNNNNNNNN… Brought Birdperson back to life… Kind of. He’s mostly made of metal and apparently they didn’t settle on a name so he’s just going with 'Phoenix Guy’, which you know, it works… Gets the point across anyway. Clearly Tammy is coming for Rick and eventually Rick will have to square off with his former best friend turned Phoenix-Bird-Cyborg-Man(?), so yeah… It’s going down, bitchesssssssss! Welcome back Rick… Welcome back, Morty… Summer… Beth… Oh and FUCK YOU, Jerry!!!
