Trinity River Fly Fishing Report
Brian Clemens reports on 2.9.17
This year has been a crazy wet mess so I hope all of you have stayed safe and dry while mother nature shows us her fury. With this wet season, most of you know it has left almost all of Northern California blown out and too high to fish. With more coming down, it doesn't look like the Sac Valley will clear up anytime soon. However, there has been a glimmer of hope, which I will talk about shortly. I will have to say, I am super excited and really looking forward to our spring to fall fishing with all the snow we have in the mountains. What this awesome snow pack means is a longer spring as well as a great summer and fall fishing with lots of cold water for the fish to thrive and for us to play. Even though things do not look so great right now, come late spring, summer and fall, its going to be great. So hang in there. If you are looking to get out now...........here ya go...............
Fishing Report: Well this one is pretty easy, all rivers are blown and unfishable except for one.........
Trinity River: The Trinity has been the saving grace for any guide permitted on this river, and it has been fishing pretty darn good considering it is the only wadable/fishable river in Nor Cal. Meaning its been a bit more crowded than normal. Right now she is a bit high as well as brown, but with a big break in the rain just around the corner, this will be the place to be for the next month, maybe even until the beginning of April. The fishing has been consistent with some days being down right epic. We have been seeing some big fish hooked and landed, some reaching 30"+ and up to 15lbs, however, the average fish has been 24-28"/4-8lbs and full of chrome bright spunk. The big thing this year has been being up there and actually fishing as lots of reports have read its slow to even don't go. But if you are up there and put in your time you will be greatly rewarded. The Trinity should fish good for the remainder of this month as well into mid-March, and if the flows stay steady, you will want to be there. Also, if you love to swing like me, now's the time. Some of my best days swinging with or without clients has been in late Feb to mid March. Oh did I forget to mention the dry fly fishing, oh yes, dry fly fishing for steelhead and browns during this time can be off the chart. So if you are itching to get out, the Trinity has the cure for you, and we still have some available dates if you are looking to book a trip.
"Be the Report, don't Believe the Report"
Trinity Dates: Feb 20,21,22 March 6,7,8,9,27,28,29,30,31 More dates available upon request
If you are looking to book spring dates in the Sac Valley, start looking at reserving them now. Come late March to early April, the Feather will be fishable once again. Personally I think it will be slightly earlier, but by April 1st she will be ready to go. If you have fished the Feather in the spring, then you know how awesome this fishery is as well as how hot these steelhead are. Pound for Pound hardest fighting steelhead you will hook into next to fishing a coastal river. So if you are looking to book April and May, reserve them now, cuz as soon as these Sac Valley Rivers become fishable again, available dates will be hard to come by. Spring dates are already filling up.
Lastly for anyone interested in joining me in Baja in late July for Dorado, Yellowfin, Wahoo and many more, please contact me and I'll send you the details.
Hope you all enjoyed the report, wish I had more to report on. Hopefully, I will have more on the next one. Thank you and looking forward to hearing from you

Lower Feather Fly Fishing Report
11.23.2017
The Lower Feather has been fishing pretty well as of late. The Low flow section below the dam has a pretty solid number of salmon on redds. There have been a number of adult steelhead and half pounders caught up here. As always when fishing around redds be very careful and watch where you step. Swinging egg sucking leaches and nymphing will find you fish.

Lower Sac and Feather River Fly Fishing Report
Hogan Brown reports on 9.15.2017
Been spending a few days here and there striper fishing on the Lower Sac, Swinging some flies on the upper feather, and conventional salmon fishing for the table...Striper fishing has been good as fall feels like it is finally here and the temperatures are cooling down and the days are getting shorter. We have been getting some nice fish in the 10-15lb range that were not around in the summer (which I think these are the perfect size fish) as well as a few of the big trophy fish. Biggest issue is that the salmon on the Sac are not showing up and these fish usually push the bigger stripers in a more consistent way to the banks and into the feeding lanes. So we have still been getting big fish but the "fall bonanza" where the big fish are around ALOT is a bit slow...that said fishing is good and we have nothing to complain about.
I personally fished a few days on my own on the Feather up through the low flow on the feather swinging some flies on my lighter switch rods and have stuck a few fish but nothing huge or that I would call a true "adult" fish yet. Also been dragging some row and yarn on the feather for some king salmon. At $25 a pound for wild caught salmon and two boys that plow through protein on a daily basis I am trying to fill the fridge this year. Most of the fish are still "BBQ" quality fish and will be for a few weeks when they began to turn to "smoker" quality fish.

Nor Cal Fly Fishing Report
Nor Cal Fly Guides Reports on 6.25.2017
Well this report comes to you a bit late, its not because of the great weather we have been having, but the great fishing we are having, but its better late then never. With the longest spring we have seen in years, getting out on local water has been a bit tough. Over the past few months almost all of my trips have been on the Lower Sac with a few on Putah. The Lower Sac has been fishing great whether it was at 5k,10k or 30k cfs, and Putah, well its Putah. With our local waters finally at fishable flows, its nice to be fishing close to home and on some good to great fishing. Summer is going to be good and our Fall should be great. So enough talking from me lets get onto the report.
American:
Flows: 6400
Clarity: Clear
Fishing: Good to Great
The AR has been a sight for long driving eyes as its been fishing great for both shad and stripers. Most of the shad fishing has been up top from Rosemore up, as well as the crowds. But if you can get out early, you will miss the crowds and be off before it gets to hot. Also there are some huge stripers cruising up top but getting them to eat is another story. My striper trips have been from Sunrise down for full days, and Gristmil down for half days, and boy has it been good. We are seeing a ton of shakers, and in the mix are plenty of 2-5lbers. The big fish unfortunately are stuffed with shad right now, but those smaller fish will keep you busy. We are having some good top water action too if you can get on early enough, and plenty of fish to go around whether a full or half day, 1 or 2 anglers. As the shad start leaving the river, the striper fishing will only get better. Best way to fish for stripers is on early off early, get your fix and beat the heat. No better time than now and the next few months. Time to get your 8wt bent.
Feather:
Flows: Low flow 2300, Total Flow 2500
Clarity: Clear
Fishing: Good to Great
Steelhead, striper and shad oh my, we have been having a few trifectas over the past 2 weeks, and its only getting better. Steelhead are thoughout the river system, but the further up you go the better it gets. Typically we are the only boat/anglers on the water, and the lack of fishing pressure truly shows, hitting a dozen steelhead ranging 14-20" is pretty easy right now, so hooking more is definitely likely. There are some bigger fish in the system as well, some pushing 8lbs, good luck landing these toads. On top of the steelhead fishing, we are even sticking a few stripers when targeted and a good number of shad too, it is the place to be right now. The river has definitely changed with the high water, and with it being 2300cfs in low flow, wade carefully. Fall is going to be sweet on this river and very busy, so as I always say, if you are looking to book a trip on the Feather, I highly recommend booking well in advance. "EGG BITE" will be here sooner than you think.
Nymphing has been the main game for steelhead, but getting them on the swing has been fun as well.
Yuba
Flows: 3700
Clarity: Perfect
Fishing: Fair to good
The Yuba is slowly coming back into shape, and is getting better every time I float it. As I have stated in past reports its the Newba and will take some anglers a bit of time to get use to how it looks, fishes and feels, but in due time, she will give it up. Not a lot of bug activity right now, but tell that to the fish. We are getting fish all throughout the water column, from on top to dredging deep, seems like the fish know what they want, "A well placed and drifter fly". My last trip on it we floated only a few (2) hours with clients and ended up hooking 6 fish, one being a 20" toad, but came unbottoned at the boat. When the flows get lower, this will be one sweet river. Until then, wade carefully as the river has changed a ton, and its not as shallow as before. With fall looming just around the corner if you are looking to book the "Egg Bite" on the Yuba, look to book sooner than later.
Nymphing is the main game, but throwing big bugs and swinging has produced a few fish as well.
Lower Sac
Flows: 10K
Clarity: Milky Green
Fishing: Good to Great depending on the day
The Lower Sac has kept every guide in Nor Cal including myself, in business and busy this year as it has been the only fishable water up to only a few weeks ago. Sometimes guiding it at 25-30k was needed, but now that its back down to 10k and its fishing extremely well. Big fish and a lot of fish will keep you busy throughout the day and some of the best fishing is just around the corner. The hotter the weather, the better it gets, so if you can bare the 100+ deg temps, you can plan on hooking a ton of fish. As you may know, the river is closed from Hwy 44 to the dam, and opens back up Aug 1st. This is great for the spring run kings, as well as the local trout up there, giving them all a break from the crazy, above normal pressure they have been seeing. Come Aug 1st if you are not on the water those first few weeks you are truly missing out. I highly recommending booking a day, 2 or even 3 during these first few weeks to experience the best fishing that you will ever have. Soon after fall will be here, and you know what that means, "EGG BITE", need I say more.
Nymphing is the way to go right now.
This is where I have been spending all of my time as of late, and will continue to do so. The fishing is not red hot, but its darn good, and is only getting better on a daily basis. If you are looking to finally wet a line and get bent, no better time than now.
If you are thinking that you want to wait till Fall, please dont wait till the last minute to book your fall trip, this year is going to be a busy one, probably the busiest yet, so book now while prime dates are available.

Sacramento Valley Fly Fishing Report
Hogan Brown reports on 3.2.17
Fishing has been tough but if you get out and look and the weather cooperates you can find some fishable water. For us north staters all the rivers are toast as most will report. I have heard that the Trinity and coast maybe opening up a bit but the Feather, Sac, Yuba are all pumping...I have been exploring our local bass lakes...Black Butte, East Park Reservoir, and Oroville After Bay. Fishing can be good but it can also be REALLY tough. The difference is usually the weather. A few days of stable weather and the bite opens up, pressure fronts and/or storms start moving through and things get tight. There is reaction bait type fishing and jig type fishing on any given days as well as float and fly fishing available so lots of options for the angler that can time the weather right.

Feather River Fly Fishing
Hogan Brown reports on 2.23.2017
All the rivers are still high and raging .... I have been getting out on the Oroville Afterbay for spotted bass and if the weather and conditions are timed right fishing can be decent. March and April are going to be reservoir and lake bass fishing I think for me for the most part. Oroville Afterbay, Clear Lake, Black Butte, Scotts Flat...smallies, spots, and largemouth ... Trying to time my days to stable weather, no fronts moving in, and warmer temps. Hopefully by Mid April I will be able to get out striper fishing on the Sac and Feather.

Lower Sac, Feather and Yuba River Fly Fishing Report
Hogan Brown reports on 2.9.17
I am not going to dress it up…there isn’t a lot going on fishing wise. The Sac, Feather, and Yuba are ripping and flooding in some areas with the latest rain and there is more rain to come…. Personally, I haven’t been out on the water in over a month. Some of my buddies and fellow guides have been getting some days in on the Coast steelhead fishing between storms, some have gotten a few days here and there on the Trinity, and there has been some windows to get out spotted bass fishing on Lake Oroville but I haven’t done any of those…….So what have I been doing well…tying flies, playing music, hanging out with family, working on Cast Hope stuff, making sourdough bread from scratch…indoor activities.
Cast Hope wise, I have been rounding up auction items for the Fly Fishing Show After Party and working on planning that event and a few other Big Events we have coming up this year…as these events grow they really require year round work, preparing, planning, and organizing. The After Party on Feb 25th is once again after the Fly Fishing Show in Pleasanton at Handles Gastro Pub in Old Town Pleasanton. 855 Main St. Pleasanton from 5-8:30pm. Tickets are $20 and include all the beer you can drink and Sliders and Wings. We will have a FULL Raffle (usually our best of the year) and a silent auction that is as good as any we host. Many of the auction items are already up on our website to bid on - http://www.casthope.org/events/auctions - There are trips to AK, Guided Trips, Rods, and Warriors Tickets up NOW to bid on.
The Yuba Jubilee is coming up February 18th, 2017 from 1-4pm at Hammon Grove on the Yuba River. The Jubilee will showcase guides, clubs, fly shops, environmental groups, and state agencies that all working hard to protect the wild populations of salmon, steelhead, and trout making the Lower Yuba River the best it can be. I will be there with my good buddy and fellow guide Chuck Ragan (http://crflyfishing.com.com) working the “Hogan Brown Fly Fishing” and “Cast Hope” booths. I will have free stickers and some schwag at both booths as well as some hand tied flies at my guide both for sale. I can’t think of the last time I have tied flies for sale so this is a special opportunity to get some of my patterns that are not in production as well as some that are. All reasonably priced…normal fly prices.
The Fly Fishing Show Feb 25th – I will be at the Cast Hope booth and if I have any flies left over I will have a few to sell or trade for various cool stuff…bobble heads, baked good, burned CD’s of moderate passed rock music, Americana, aka music I may like as…I will also be helping with the After Part mentioned above.

Low Flow 850cfsHigh Flow 1050cfsClarity Low Flow 8-10ft vizHigh Flow 10-12ft vizFishing GoodI have been spending a good amount of time on the Feather up until the shad and striper started showing up, but also because the Feather started slowing down. But since then, a push of big grease lightning springers have shown up and reeking havoc on our flies. Swinging has been darn good, and of course nymphing is kicking butt, and if you are out late enough the dry fly fishing is pretty darn good too. Don't know how long this will last, but now is the time to experience this late run. The coolest thing is depending on the day, cloud cover and hatches, swinging is out producing the bobber, how cool is that. This should fish good for another few weeks, and then slow down till the salmon season opens on July 15th, then its salmon time. Nymphs Princes, Caddis, Worms, Sucker Spawns, Mays, CJs, PTS Swinging Andersons Euphoria, Thalkens Tiny Dancer, Princes, tan soft hackles, tan caddisGuides Tip Place to be right now for your steelhead fix
SALMON ON THE FEATHER
Starting this year I will be guiding the Feather River for salmon. We will be using conventional tackle to hook into these bruisers which on average weight 10-25lbs, with many fish over 25lbs. These trips will be the same as I do now, no charters with 6-10 anglers, the normal 2 anglers and myself, however a 3rd angler can be added with an additional charge. 3 anglers, is not something I normally do, but there will be plenty of room for 3 on the new boat. The Salmon season starts July 15th and ends Oct 15th, personally July to the end of Sept are the best months to get these fish for eating. If you are interested in booking your Salmon Trip, book now while dates are still open.

Nor Cal Fly Guides Reports on 1.18.18
Fishing: fair to good
Clarity: 3ft off color
Flows: Low 1000, High 1800
The upper stretch is finally open and is fishing very well but has been extremely crowded, below that has been very quiet with crowds and enough fish to get you steelhead fix. I do have a few tricks up my sleeve this time of year and it has been paying off for those willing to hang with me and not be in the crowds. We are hooking 6-10 fish daily and seeing the typical feather river steelhead 18-22" with some nice winter fish in the mix, with almost no fishing pressure from bankies or boats. Cant beat that. Nymphing has been working very well, but swinging has been producing too. Look for this place to light up any day now, and if you like to swing hold on the alevin bite is just around the corner.Nymphs: princes, bwos, copper johns, alevins, wormsSwinging: alevins, hobo speys, olive streamers

Lower Feather Fly Fishing Report
Marin Unversaw reports on Jan 6, 2018: The Feather’s water is clear with a little green tinge. For us it was overcast with some light rain. Conditions are good. Water level worked for crossing selected pieces of water. Salmon are mostly done, with many fragrant memorials to those brave Salmon who swam under the Golden Gate Bridge, and all the way up to Oroville to party.
For me it was 101, to 37, to Int 80, to Ca 99, to Ca 70. They swam it. A couple of 16" to 18” “Steelhead" were seen being hauled off by some spinning gear locals. Of three flyfishers I spoke to, only one had a genuine hit. They were both swingers and bobber people.
Fishing last light Friday, with light rain till dark, was a blank as it was for the three other guys on my island. Fishing first light Saturday 1/6, meeting in the dark, again light mist, one fish hit a sz 14 pale yellow alvin at about 8:30 A. He flipped me off.
Using a 12’9” 6wt spey with a Scagit and a 1/2 and 1/2 MOW tip. Seemed right for the water.
If you are going, pay close attention to the CFS as it may vary as they figure out how much the rain will affect them. My best, Martin

Trinity, Yuba, Feather, American River Fly Fishing Report
Brian Clemens reports on 12.19.2016
Trinity River:
Clarity: Good to getting perfect
Flows: Lewiston - 300cfs steady Bucktail - 500cfs and dropping Douglas City - 775cfs and dropping Junction City - 1600cfs and dropping Wow, the past few weeks on the Trinity have been extremely good to Nor Cal Fly Guides clients. While others have been working hard to find fish, we have consistently hooked a half a dozen adults on a daily basis, with my last 2 days up there hooking 16 adults and landing 8 of them, this being right after the big rain last week. This recent storm has blown the river out again, but as I type it is already back into fishing shape. What does this mean......time to get up there and hook some chrome. We are still finding some willing fish to take a swung fly, but its all about right place at the right time, as well as water temps. This last rain storm did help bring the water temps up slightly. The indicator with nymphs below has really been cleaning house, and if you have the right flies, the right drift and the right float, there can be some epic fishing. Look for the Trinity to be the go to steelhead fishery for the next month or two, especially if you want to get away from the crowds, and try you hand at swinging. I still have some prime dates in Jan, Feb and March if you are interested in booking a steelhead trip you wont forget.Nymphs: Stones, Psycho Princes, Eggs, Worms, Copper JohnsSwinging: Ho Bo Speys, Bread Crust, anything black/blueGuides Tip: "Be the report, dont believe the report!!!"This will be my go to steelhead fishery for the next 3 months
Feather: Clarity: Brownie Green
Flows: Low Flow - 800cfs High Flow - 1700cfs As some of you know, I did spend a bunch of time on the Feather this year, but when it became to crowded, I decided to head up to the Trinity. There were some epic early season egg bite days, but once the egg bite become full swing you would see 6-8 boats, and a bank angler in every fishable spot. This made for tough fishing for everyone. Despite all that, the fishing was pretty good up until early Nov, then came the fishing pressure, and the fishing definitely suffered. Now that the pressure all but disappeared, the fishing as picked up slightly, and will be looking good come the New Year,. This is also when the upper river opens. Currently the river is experiencing a bit of color, which I would call a brownish green, it is fishable at this point,, but give it a week or 2 and it will be that steelhead green that we all seek. Once this happens, this place will fish extremely well, and Ill be guiding it on a regularly daily basis. PLEASE, dont forget the salmon are done spawning now, so please try not to walk through the tailouts where are their eggs are. The winter run started to show their scales prior to storm and will continute to trickle in throughout the next few months. Want to try swinging, the Feather is definitely the place, and in about a month or so, the salmon eggs will hatch, and swinging an alevin pattern will give you that tug that we all search for. Prime time for this is the end of Jan to mid March. If you are looking to get out and learn how to fish the Feather in the winter/early spring book your trip now while prime dates are still available. If spring is your thing, book well in advance as this is my busiest time of year. Nymphs: Princes, Caddis, Eggs, Worms, Copper Johns, MaysSwinging: sculpins, olive streamers, flesh flies, alevins, white or olive wooly buggersGuides Tip: Dont stay in one spot, the fish are spread throughout the entire system. Fish a spot for a while with the usual bugs, if nothing happens time to move. American: Clarity: Chocolate Milk Flows: 30,000cfs and steady I would not recommend fishing the American right now, flows are a touch over wadable level, LOL. However, we are all hoping that the flows come down to fishable levels for Jan 1st, this is when the upper river opens. We are currently booking trips after Jan 2nd for the opener. If you are looking to hook big winter steelhead and do not want to travel, this is the river for you. Steelhead pushing 15lbs are available, most averaging 6-10lbs. Personally I think the only way this river will be fishable after Jan 1, is going to be out of a boat, its still going to be pretty high. Several years back, we experienced these same flows on the American in late Dec at 30k, come Jan 1, it was down to 6k and the upper river fished extremely well. Lots of fish, only fishable from a boat, boy was it good. I am hoping for the same situation this year. Guide Tip: Keep an eye out for this river to be good to great after the opener. Ill be fishing it as long as the flows are under 15k, yes I said 15k. The fish sit is specific areas at these flows, and if you know where to look, and how to fish for them, you can have some great fishing.
Yuba: Clarity: Chocolate Milk Flows: 9000cfs and dropping Again I wouldn't recommend fishing this until the flows come down. When they do, look for the these trout to start keying in on the skwalas. With steady weather over the next few weeks, I would give the Yuba about 2 weeks before it becomes fishable again. I am already booking dates for the Skwala and March brown hatches, this is where you can not only have fun swinging for trout, but throwing dries all day as well.

Sac, Feather, and Yuba Report
Hogan Brown Reports on 11.17.2016
Open Dates: Dec: 17, 21-23, 29-31 Jan: 2, 5-7, 14, 28 Feb: 20
Lower Sac Stripers: Fishing has slowed dramatically but the river is fishable and the big fish are the ones that are eating…I mean really big. This is when you may fish all day for one grab but it will be a true trophy. I fished last week when the weather was warmer and caught plenty of 3-8lb fish and had one monster follow and tail slap a fly on an I-Line. Winter striper fishing on the river can be good or bad just depends on the weather and water
Lower Sacramento River Trout: December is traditionally one of, if not my favorite, month to fish the Sac for trout. Most of the guides and recreational anglers are gone…moving back down south or to the Trinity and while numbers are not huge we do usually catch some of the biggest rainbows of the year. Fishing small and deep is the key and with a poor salmon return it seems this small and deep approach we use in December has already started from what I hear.
Feather River Steelhead: Fishing is pretty workmen like…good numbers no reports of monsters but steady fishing if you can get a clean run and fresh water. Getting fresh water is the biggest issue on the feather. If you are the first one to fish it you will get the fish…if not can be tough.
Lower Yuba River: Lower yuba slowed down with the flow drop as the flows are back down to 775. I am really not a fan of fishing the Yuba at these flows but good rain can push the flows back up to around a 1000cfs really quick so hopefully, we get some rain soon and that happens.
Butte Creek: Is open and flows are around 150cfs…a good wade fishing flow. There should be some steelhead up in the creek with the good rains we had in October. May get out and check it out this weekend.

Northern California Fly Fishing Report
Brian Clemen’s Reports on 9.29.2016
Over the past few weeks, the fish in Nor Cal has really turned on. The salmon are showing up in good numbers, some are starting to spawn and you know what that means, "EGG BITE TIME". With cooler temps to come, the fishing will only get better, hard to believe as the fishing is pretty darn good right now.
Feather River
Rating: Good to Great
Flow: 800cfs in Low Flow
Temp: mid 50's
Clarity: Clear
The Feather has really turned on in just the last week, and that's mainly due to the large push of salmon over the past few weeks. With many redds being built, and even a few salmon paired up and more salmon coming in, its only going to get better. We are seeing some quality steelhead spread throughout the Low Flow Section, and the majority of them are taking an egg imitation. While the "egg bite" isn't on fire yet, they are eating the egg on a regular basis, give it another week and the fish will be egg crazy. Over the next month, the Feather will be your local go to steelhead fishery. Its looking to be a great fall fishery. Not many available dates remain between now and the end of Nov, if you are looking to book during the egg bite, book now.
Yuba River
Rating: Good
Flow: 800cfs
Temp: mid 50's
Clarity: Clear
The Yuba was a bit tough over the past few weeks, mostly due to the ever dropping flows. Now that they have settle and the fish found there new feeding lanes, the fishing has been getting better. With a few salmon starting to spawn, there is a small egg bite happening, but with more salmon on the move, and a good number still below the weir, give it another week or two and the Yuba will be in full fall swing. If you are looking to get out for a few hours, this will be your go to trout fishery for the next month or two. Not many available dates remain between now and the end of Nov, if you are looking to book during the egg bite, book now.
Trinity River
Rating: Good to Getting Better
Flows: 450cfs
Temp: low 50's
Clarity: Clear
The Trinity is really starting to pick up. I had a week of trips during mid Sept, mostly swinging, but a few nymph trips as well, and what we saw as the week progressed is that the fishing only got better. Lots of smolts to hand, but there where some bruisers hooked, landed and lost. My last guided trip yielded some good numbers of adult steelhead, as well as many fresh fish fishing moving up river through the tailouts. With cooler temps about to hit the Trinity, the fishing is about to heat up. If you are looking to do a multi day trip, this is the place to be. October and November is always a great time on the Trinity, especially if you like to swing. This is where you can not only get fish on the swing, but the water temps are still warm enough to get them swinging on top. Personally, this is the time of year I like swinging on the T. I still have a few available dates in October and November if you are looking to get out.
Lower Sac
Rating: Great
Flows: 7300cfs
Temps: low 50's
Clarity: Perfect
The Lower Sac never ceases to amaze me, and its only getting better. Lots of great fishing to be had right now, some big fish battled, some battles won, some lost, but all in all, the Lower Sac is the place to be. The salmon are showing themselves all throughout the system and in due time the egg bite will be on, but this doesn't mean they wont eat them now (hint hint). I think the pre-egg bite can give an angler some great fishing before all the crowds. Just as the first few salmon show up and start redd-ing up, the trout go nuts for the thought of eggs, so I always start throwing eggs early and it flat out works. Look for the Lower Sac to get "epic" early to mid Oct, and if you are not up there, you will truly miss out. I still have a few prime dates available between now and the end of Nov, if you are looking to book, now's the time.
Available Egg Bite Dates
Oct 6,15
Nov 7,8,9,10,25,26,27,28,29
Available Trinity Dates
Oct 18,21,26
Nov 16,17,21,22
For future dates please email or call and let me know what you are interested in
If you have never experience the "Egg Bite" in Northern California, you owe it to yourself to come and check it out, its something that cant be explained, only experienced. With only a few days remaining during October and November, if you are looking to book a trip contact me as soon as possible.
I look forward to hearing from you

Lower Sac Striper Report
Hogan Brown Reports on 6.23.2016
Before I left the weather was all over the place...rain, wind, cold, and very little warm weather. I was actually in my Simms Pro Dry suit for about 3-4 days which I literally had to dig out of my closet being June! The up and down weather really affects the stripers from my experience and the barometric shifts and cooler water temps slows them down...that said there was small windows of sun and warmth where the fish really went on the feed. The shad have really thinned out early this year as I think most of the shad went up the Feather, Yuba, and American rivers this year. Most fish we are catching are still schoolie size fish up to 8lbs with the biggest being right around 10lbs. The last day I was on the water was the first day we started to see some legit double digit fish follow flies and get interested. One client even pulled the hook out of a pretty committed fish...trout set. Weather is looking much more constant and I will be back on the water this coming Sunday hopefully in shorts and flip flops not a rain suit. I have a few dates open still if anyone is looking to get out. June - Oct is prime time for river striper fishing.
