Writing a new Frey chapter for Rascal! I love Frey, he's special because he's the "next generation" of Glassers so he's Ambrose's nephew, Eugene's son... I feel like, as a character, I got to see him grow up. Then he grows up into a pilot. Son. Why such a dangerous job? Mama Cora don't approve. (Mama Cora when in a car: "YOU ARE GOING TOO FAST." Mama Cora when in Avery's strange walking coelacanth contraption: "WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE." Mama Cora at airships: "NOPE. YOU CAN KILL ME FIRST IF YOU WANT ME ON THAT THING.") Meanwhile, Mama Addy, who actually birthed Frey and has no license to pilot: "Can I give it a spin?" Do not let her, Frey. Do not trust Addy. Meanwhile, both Frey's daddies are like, "Eh, I don't love that you're flying scary machines in the sky, but... we said we'd support our kids' career ambitions. So stay safe."
#right now I'm writing Frey talking about being a widower and how he's lucky he had four parents#while his son only has him now that his wife is gone#FREY THE MATH IS NOT MATHING#your four parents had FIVE KIDS#you are one widower with one son lmao#(to be fair all his parents are alive and he's Not Doing Too Well at the grief thing)

Armimation! Fixed the jank on the back arm and got a few more frames added on :) Still a little short of what I did on the hand but I'll catch up soon enough and then I'll start working on animating them both simultaneously, line art first and color after.
Genuinely don't know if I'll even finish this project but I'm still having fun and learning a lot :D

tudors thomas makes me so sad because i remember the scene gregory brought up how henry literally hits thomas and thomas just down plays it. two things that stuck out to me in that scene...
1.) thomas more than likely didn't know anyone else knew that. he probably didn't want anyone else to know that henry hits him, so if gregory knows, that means other people know because gregory heard from court gossip. that brings us to point 2...
2.) among the court people are well aware that henry smacks thomas around, they speak about it among each other, somehow it's made it back to his son...they all know this but really, no one has brought it up to thomas or offered him any form of comfort or anything. now you're probably thinking 'well he is a grown man who is gonna comfort him' but it really explains just how isolated and lonely thomas is. like, he has no one, no support, no group, absolutely no one.
3.) i know i said two points, but I'm bad at math. it also shows that no matter how far he rises, he is always going to be seen as a low born man to henry. henry literally couldn't get away with hitting his nobles in that manner, commonly. like, we know that while the nobles feared henry, henry also feared the nobles. henry uses thomas as an emotional punching bag because he knows he can, and no one will stop him. and my realization now is that...thomas does everything henry wants, thomas literally runs the country. when henry is depressed and messing around with his jester (who is literally walder frey), who is running the country? Thomas!! Thomas does everything he's supposed to do, it's the other nobles who literally can't follow directions. So Thomas probably gets hit/beaten for what other nobles do, because Henry knows he can't get away with that shit with the others. So Thomas is taking the beatings for others - others like Brandon, who was a bitch to Thomas.
And it makes you angrier because while the nobles are doing stupid things, Thomas is not only running the country but getting beaten while doing so.
#and then gregory was bringing him pain pills so I'm like...why was he in pain#is it because henry is beating him#and if i make a fic where gregory survives and kills henry - then what???#and when i completely strip charles' personality and make HIM fight henry for thomas then what???#thomas cromwell#the tudors#henry viii

When Sansa made ramsey bolton conscious of the fact that he’s still a bastard, was that what made him kill Walda Frey and her child?
Was Sansa the reason for their deaths?
LOL Ramsay isn't exactly a brainiac but I think he could run the math on that himself.

Ich bin so frei und wähle zwei 😅 Nr. 21 + 30 bitte 😊
Meine liebsten Dialoge?
- Aus „Wintergefühle: The Power of Love
Mal schauen ;-)

The witches are the largest population in Vertumnus. Most do not bear the obvious signs of an ethereal nature the way that the elves, the werewolves, or the other, rarer races do. That is, except for some of the more elite magical bloodlines, like the Danaan, Anouir, and Beltane lineages. Some are more gifted with magic than others, much like how some humans in our world hold more talent for writing or music or math or sports than others.
Overseen by the Covenant, the witches are strong believers in democracy. They vote for their representatives within the Covenant and its presiding officer, the Enchanter. Most recently, the Enchanter and Covenant has been arguing over what to do about the fallout of the Mage Wars.
Some wish to follow the elves in their efforts to find new realms among the stars to make a new home. Others want to dig their heels in and save their current home. Yet there is much debate over how—or if—this can be done. Perhaps it is no surprise that the Covenant is facing more threats from dark witches and evil covens that recruit with a message of facing—and even hastening—the impending apocalypse.
Still others look to ancient prophecies for a chance of saving the world with little care for what price might be paid for it. What is one life, after all, in the face of all life?
Luna Frey disagrees.

This is such an interesting quote, said while Frey is getting a lesson in Athian history from the Tantas while in Svargana.
Because like... no. No, he didn't.
Unless my math is wrong, or Tantas carry pregnancies for years instead of months, or the writers are just going to ignore the dates the game provides, Cuff could not have been a part of the Purge. He would have been in pieces, not to be rebuilt and sent back to Athia until roughly three years later.
Something that continues to strike me is how Frey has... kind of an off idea of what, exactly, Cuff's role is in all of this.

A Clash of Kings - 04 BRAN I (pages 63-72)
Bran wonders about the Comet of Plot Foreshadowing, and the language of wolves, recalls a bad time at a play-date, and dreams of wolves.
-
Of late, he often dreamed of wolves. They are talking to me, brother to brother, he told himself when the direwolves howled. He could almost understand them... not quite, not truly... as if they were singing in a language he had once known and somehow forgotten. The Walders might be scared of them, but the Starks had wolf blood. Old Nan told him so. "Though it is stronger in some than in others," she warned.
That has got to be frustrating for Bran. "I know this, I should know this, I did know this... maybe." On top of all the things he used to be able to do, or could have done, but can't anymore being basically rubbed in his face in the in chapter flashback.
When Bran repeated that to Osha, she laughed aloud. "Your wolves have more with than your maester," the wilding woman said. "They know truths the grey man has forgotten." The way she said it made hime shiver, and when he asked what the comet meant, she answered, "Boold and fire, boy, and nothing sweet." ... Though Old Nan didn't think so, and she'd lived longer than any of them. "Dragons," she said, lifting her head and sniffing. She was near blind and could not see the comet, yet she claimed she could smell it. "It be dragons, boy," she insisted.
Another round of Comet Interpretations! It's the more advanced form of charades~
Actually... *does a quick google and some maths* okay, never mind, I do Not need to start watching House of the Dragon just in case Old Nan is in it.... unless she's at least 100 years older than previously suspected!
"I can get to bed myself." Mikken had hammered a row of iron bars into the wall, so Bran could pull himself about the room with his arms. It was slow and hard and it made his shoulders ache, but he hated being carried.
Yay! More quality of life improvements for Bran!
Bran: "Do wolves dream?" Luwin: "...sure, why not?" B: "Do dead men dream?" L: "They are suspiciously quiet on the subject." B: "Do trees dream?" L: "I doubt it." B: "Well, you're wrong, they do. Trees dream tree dreams."
Maester Luwin deserves so much respect, and a vacation.
"Summer never bit anyone." "Summer ripped a man's throat out in this very chamber. or have you forgotten?-"
I mean, yeeeeah, that is a thing Summer did, but it was an assassin actively trying to kill Bran and Catelyn, so...
"Bran, child, why do you torment yourself so? One day you may do some of these things, but now you are only a boy of eight." "I'd sooner be a wolf. Then I could live in the wood and sleep when I wanted, and I could find Arya and Sansa. I'd smell where they were and go save them, and when Robb went to battle I'd fight beside him like Grey Wind. I'd tear the Kingslayer's throat out with my teeth, rip, and then the war would be over and everyone would come back to Winterfell. If I was a wolf..." He howled. "Ooo-ooo-ooooooooooo."
Luwin continues to come in clutch with the support, but...
Oh Bran, oh sweetheart. He's lost so much and now he feels so useless, certain that if he could just do something, anything, it would fix everything, but he can't. There's just no magic cure for this one.
Mmmm... I know it's a children's game, but Lord of the Crossing sounds like it was designed to bully small children. Like it's a game meant to ensure conflict, not fun. I mean, I guess if you like getting shoved around and pushed into mud and water it's fine?
My goodness that is a lot of Walders... I wonder if Walders of Frey are required to carry around a small card with their branch of the family tree for easy reference. Where, where, where, where's Walder? Throw a rock in a random direction, you'll find him by the "ouch!"
The Walders had decreed that Bran should be the judge and decide whether or not people had said "Mayhaps," but as soon as they started playing they forgot all about him.
That is some shitty sportsmanship, and they should all be ashamed of themselves. I understand young children had short attention spans, and tend to focus on what in front of them or exciting, but that is gross behaviour.
I am perhaps a little overly salty about this due to similar experiences in my childhood which probably did more mental and emotional damage than I realise. "Wait, why do we have this extra reward left over? Oh well, must just be a spare." Bitch, I was standing less than two feet away from you, I was literally right in front of you!
And it certainly doesn't help with Bran's already crumbling mental state, it's basically rubbing salt in the wound of "look at all these things you can't do anymore." I know it's not malicious, it's just kids being kids, by my gosh my boy needs some attention and love.
Osha lingered behind. "Is it the wolf dreams again?" Bran nodded. "You should not fight so hard, boy. I see you talking to the heart tree. Might be the gods are trying to talk back."
"We've been trying to contact you about your wolf's extended warranty."
The gods... his own burgeoning powers as a green seer... a crusty old tree wizard... lots of options, really.
The world tightened around them, but beyond the walled wood still stood the grey caves of man-rock. Winterfell, he remembered, the sound coming to him sudden. Beyond its sky-tall man-cliffs the true world was calling, and he knew he must answer or die.
oooh, I love the wolf pov. There's intelligence there, but not necessarily like that of humans.
I also like how with Bran's story line, there's a subtlety to the magic in it. We know it's real because magic is real within the context of the story, but even if you stripped away the magic from this world, it holds up because it's woven in with Bran's mental state and slow rediscovery of self in a world where things are changing and slipping away from him faster than he can grab hold.

OC Spotlight: The Ryvertribe
House Erenford of Haronfort
sigil — A golden heron, beaked and gammed black, standing with a silver fish in its beak, on pink house words — tbd 🏳️⚧️transrights🏳️⚧️ location — western most shored of The Bite, on the Kingsroad, neighboring lands to House Frey and The Twins, near The Neck current lord — Lord Forrest Erenford and Lady Violet of House Reed current heir — Robyn "Little Lord" Erenford (age 7); followed by Lord Erenford's brother Ser Chett Erenford themes — period typical murder and mayhem; I wanted to make gender queer characters, while still being period typical, they are working towards the only life they can imagine and doing what it takes to survive...and killing TERF coded wildling tribes in the process
Lord Ryver Erenford — Red Ryver
The poison drips through, and Ryver says daddy likey. served as squire to Lady Sabitha Frey during Dance of the Dragons, alongside Sabitha's youngest son Ser Oswalt Frey Ryver knew who they were for as long as he had memory, and he knew he had to work twice as hard as anyone else to achieve anything. Living at the epicenter where The North, The Vale and the Riverlands meet, there is a need for mighty warriors, so a mighty warrior he became. Red Ryver is his moniker, known for a wide for his sadistic ways of torment and torture to all those who he thinks deserve it. He decorates the Haronfort Keep with the bones of those he's killed, but it's super charming because he's doing it to live him best trans-life so everything he does is totally moral in the end, I've done the math. Ramsey Bolton wishes they were as horrific and terrible as the mighty Red Ryver and his warriors. I just really enjoyed the idea of transmen ripping the head off terf-coded mountain clans and vouging with their dismembers limbs. face inspo — Elliot Page playing Micheal Cera as a blood thirty warrior accidental blood magic — Ryver took the phrase "I will sow the fields with your blood!" a little too literally, and goes around burying the dismembers bits of his enemies in the fields, mainly because they have too much energy and nowhere to put it, but also as some sort of offering to the old gods. Because of this, the Erenford fields are relatively prosperous for the area and I have a fun lil idea that as Ryver ages, they experience an effect similar to taking testosterone because nature says "life finds a way bb"
Oswalt Frey — the ally
"I could live anywhere, but Ryver can't, so why would I want to be anywhere else?" Oswalt is the youngest boy of Lord and Lady Frey, born a few months apart from Ryver Erenford. Lady Erenford preferred to spend her time at The Twins, with Lady Sabitha Frey, so the children grew up together. Once old enough to venture on their own, Oswalt and Ryver spent most of their time at Haronfort with Lord Erenford. At a tourney in their youth, Oswalt won his only match when his leather pants accidentally split during competition, the ladies gasped, the crowd cheered, and his opponent instantly surrendered. It is the current noble gossip sweeping the realms about House Frey. Oswalt is rather embarrassed by the situation. face inspiration — I promise I picked his face after making him, but like obvs it had to be Barry Keoghan (in Banshees) because it obviously couldn't be Lenny Kravitz [tr*mp voice: 'uuuuuuuge]
ficlet snippet from a young mens tourney the TargTower boys participated in "secretly" lol
“Ahh, Lord and Lady Frey,” Ser Gwayne waved as they neared a familiar tent. Ser Criston held his head low, attempting to hide his face. Years ago, Forrest Frey had boldly asked for the hand of Rhaenyra Targaryen while Cole was stationed at her side. He remembered her laugh, and the look of disgust she shared with him when she met his eyes to mock the man who dared pledge her his loyalty. She had been a viper then, he only had to see it for himself to believe.
“Lady Sabitha, you look dashing as ever. You look as if you are ready to fight for a Squireship yourself,” Gwayne laughed, as he kissed the top of the lady’s hand.
“My future squire," she replied, allowing her hand to be kissed, “will need to best me if he ever hopes for a knighthood, Ser Gwayne, as you well know.” The woman sighed, as she took in the sight of the beautiful, blond, knight. In her youth she had wished for someone so beautiful to steal her away, but alas, that was long ago. “And you?” she asked, as her eyes regarded the equally handsome man in Ser Gwayne’s company, perhaps she was wrong for dreaming of a blond haired man when this type of man was also an option.
“Ser Kale,” Gwayne replied, before Cole had a chance to blow his cover. “Sworn to the Lannisters, we are here with some of their house’s lads.”
‘Ser Kale’ bowed politely to the Lady Sabitha and her Lord husband, who did not seem to recognize Cole at all from their former meeting. Nor did the Freys seem to remember that the Lannisters ranks were lush with daughters this generation, lacking greatly for young sons to continue their knightly traditions.
The adults minded the young boys, their silver hair shorn short, and hidden under caps, looking no different than any other noble blond boy in the realm. Aemond and Daeron were using a sword to drop a frog onto their older brother’s shoulder, which caused him to squeal and squirm.
“Ahh,” Lord Frey said, “Splendid!” He finished his cup of wine and gestured to a servant for another.
“And who have you brought to compete?” Cole asked, leaning into his new persona by playing with a Lannister accent, one of his eyes blinking more than the other.
Lady Sabitha motioned towards the two young men in her charge. “My youngest, Oswalt, and his childhood companion, Ryver,” she said. One of the boys was using their sword as a makeshift cock, swinging it back and forth while the other searched their grassy field with great interest, flicking something crawling on his breaches. “Mum! There’s ants over here!” the boy shouted when he noticed he caught his mother’s eye.
The adults waved.
“Ryver what?” Gwayne asked.
“Just Ryver,” Lady Sabitha said, plainly.
“Were we ever that young and stupid?” Ser Gwayne joked, as both Frey boys began to wildly itch inside their pants.
“My wife assures me that I still am,” Lord Frey hiccuped into another glass.
Lady Sabitha took Ser Gwayne’s arm and led him towards her tent. Cole was reluctant to join them, not wanting to let the young princes out of his sight. More afraid the princes would hurt themselves rather than meet with illish brutes.
Robyn Erenford — Little Lord
At the age of 7 years old, he is current heir to Haronfort, as the first "true born" son of Lord and Lady Erenford. He follows Ryver like a shadow, and constantly wears an overly large silver helm. He is an impressive archer, and has killed way more people than you.
Ser Morgan Lodge — Lady Morgana Large
*bob the drag queen voice* suspiciously large woman The family Lodge owned a large and prosperous inn along the Kingsraod, going back countless generations. Do to their massive size, Lady became a knight, and was a good one. They met Ryver and everything changed, fighting for whatever he was trying to build. info: they/them, lumberjack/bearded man in a dress aesthetic
Lord Forrest Erenford
It was strange for a man to raise his children, and granted he didn't start until they were out of diapers, but Lady Violet had no real interest in mothering, and Forrest was surprised he liked it so much. He is mocked by surrounding Lords and men, until Ryver showed such an aptitude to killing. After Ryver took out a terrible and ancient Mountain Clan with less than 5 soldiers, it was hard to argue then...publicly.
Lady Violet Erenford of House Reed
Lady Erenford preferred to spend her time at The Twins, with Lady Sabitha Frey, so the children grew up together. Lady Sabitha was very supportive of Ryver's preference towards presenting as a man.
Ser Chett Erenford
A second born son, who has always dreamed above his station. He wants the Lordship of Hareonfort, as he believes Lord brother is doing a better job as a nursemaid to strange children. The young Erenford boy is the only thing standing in the way between Chett and being Forrest's heir. If that ever happens, for good measure Chett will make sure to hang Ryver, in case anyone gets the idea that Ryver could succeed his father.
Feast Keep — Their Valhalla
Briarwood Hall — Ryver has found an abandoned Keep, high atop the mountain peaks in The Vale. It once had a thriving foresting trade of its signature briarwood trees, a lightly red wood that smelled faintly of roses, and grows beautiful blood red flowers. In a suspiciously strange trade, Ryver gets enough coin to purchase the abandoned Briarwood Hall from House Arryn by Lady Cinda Lannister, not long before the death of King Visyers. Anyone is welcome in Feast Keep, as long as you pull your weight. Liberated woman from local slaughtered mountain clans make up much of the small settlements population. Everyone is trained in weaponry, and there is a well-oiled system guarding the Keep from any who would wish to do them harm.

07/03:
Me personally, I'm a writer. I love writing and I get excited reading others' writing, but not everyone feels the same. School makes this environment for students, I feel, where students "have" to do what the teacher tells them to for a variety of reasons, like "getting a good grade" or impressing parents and family because of their marks. Work can feel draining when there is an absence of interest and lead to adherence, resistance, and other negative emotions. One thing I want to do is make learning "fun" for my students. A lot of teachers feel this way— and the addition of humor or interest can appeal to more students, but factors like a lack of knowledge or confidence can make some students, especially secondary level students, hesitant. And sometimes, learning just isn't fun.
What is the role of motivation in writing instruction? How can we motivate students to care about their writing?
Motivation and fun can go hand in hand. To me, student interest is reliant on effective instruction. Every student is unique, different strategies will help different students. Building motivation starts with building confidence, something like a gradual release model ("I do, we do, you do") can help model new skills and transfer responsibility onto students (Frey & Fisher, 2013). This theory also develops around Vygotsky's "zone of proximal development" (ZPD) which determines the distance of learning development through problem solving with aid of mentors, like peers and teachers (Daffern & MacKenzie, 2020). With the inspiration of ZPD, gradual release shows students what is expected of them and gives them a safe environment to experiment with some help, and students are released to use this skill in their own independent learning. By making students confident in their skills, intrinsic motivation has a chance to grow because students are able to execute a task on their own and apply it to their own interests.
Another key part of building motivation is interest! I'm pretty good at math; if you show me how to use an equation, I can do it and explain it to someone else with little problem, but I'm not interested in solving equations in my free time. I don't have any mathematic motivation, and the same can be said about students who are confident in their writing abilities but don't feel motivated to write. I think part of engaging students is learning about their interests and incorporating it into lessons. While this can't be done for every occasion or lesson, writing strategies like inquiry and journaling can allow students to explore their own interests and find it within themselves to write (Gillespie & Graham, 2011). Inquiry allows students to explore a concept of their choosing and write about their findings and how they were meaningful to them, and journaling can tap into a student's personal feelings in a non- threatening way.
During my student teaching, my host teacher encouraged students to keep journals. There would be a question up on the board every day that students would respond to each prompt with five sentences in their journals with a "free write" on Fridays— students would write a letter to either me or my host teacher for us to read and write a response back to. My host teacher would often use questions like, "Which super power would you rather have: x- ray vision or flight?" or "What does respect mean to you?" They ranged from silly to thought- provoking and meaningful. We got a lot of complaints the longer we did journals, but once I took over the classroom and decided to stop having students write journals, many were asking when they'd come back, and suddenly, they were "fun"— they were intrinsically motivated to have a chance to talk about themselves and have it be read by their teachers. They liked getting responses back from me and my host teacher and liked the chance to talk about themself.
For other students, this was just another thing to be graded and receive a lesser mark on for lack of completion/ things to say. I'd like to implement journaling and free- writes into my future instruction, and I think that grading for completion is an extrinsic motivation to do the work and teaching students strategies for elaborating on writing (5 Ws and 1H) can help students go beyond five sentences. I think this practice is important; both structured and unwriting time in a personal way allows students to practice and explore areas that interests them and writing becomes fun. For emerging bilingual students, journaling can also be a place where students don't have to write in English to answer a question. Journaling allows students to process their own thoughts and ideas in order to create concepts and sort ideas, or even make illustrations— this use of language, even visual, still represents meaning, and asking a student to label, explain, or narrate the scene is multi-modal learning (Montague, 1995).
Increasing motivation to write is like an equation:
Effective writing strategies + student interest + freedom = motivation to write
Preparing students with effective strategies can help build the confidence to write and serves as a foundation, but engaging students' interests, such as allowing them to talk about themselves or delve deeper into a topic of their choosing, and entrusting students with the freedom to do so can help students find the drive to write.

his dad (alexander lovelace) is a lawyer, frey is basically a born ace attorney [in one universe, he cupped the balls of a statue of the god of law and said god of law was like "hell yeah brother" and blessed him with super-law powers], and also he is the womanizer ever. note the hickeys and bitemarks.
Valence Haiz
(please ignore the part that says "turnabout lawyer". i will explain later)
male, 5'11
blonde hair, gray eyes, pale skin, etc
age range: 18 to 26-ish (again i am not a math guy)
current job: CEO of a medical research monopoly, also politician
previous jobs: prosecutor, and before that, college student
going to college for: polisci / psychology / business / law
fun facts: very academic, stick up his ass, a special flavor of emotionally constipated (grew up rich and pressured)
main color: red
valence was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, and he was expected [read: pressured] to do "great things" by his father (David Haiz), make his family proud, etc etc. he was interested in law, decided to go to school for it, all that. he would later inherit his grandfather's (Aldier Kamp) medical research company and pursue a career in politics to be like his father.
--this line is intentionally left blank--
okay, we're gonna do the rest of this like im doing an interview because it's the only way i know how to structure things. let's go!
So, how do these bozos meet?
easy: college. they both attend (fictional) school Pennick University, which offers an accelerated course of study that can make a person a lawyer with just a bachelor's degree.
[note: in case you can't tell, your author is a complete and total Ace Attorney nerd. this is AA logic. just go with it.]
frey and valence end up being random roommates in their first year. by some miracle, they actually go from just "roommates" to "person i tolerate and talk to outside sometimes".
Why ship them?
my sibling in starclan they ship themselves.
after the two of them become friends, talk regularly, etc etc, frey finds himself falling hard. like, head-over-heels ass-over-teakettle hard. while registering for spring classes in his second year, frey quite literally changes his major because valence has helped him realize this talent he has for law and polisci.
i think if anything, this excerpt from my aSiP series bible says it best, at least from frey's POV:
It’s not theory or subtext or conjecture anymore. Frey Lovelace is just… in love with Valence Haiz. Hopelessly. Helplessly. He probably didn't realize it until he was switching his major, too.
He’s in love with Valence. The real Valence.
The Valence that turns his head away when Frey cracks a bad joke. The Valence that stays up late to get work done, only to end up watching reruns of House and Criminal Minds with Frey. The Valence that lets his eyes sparkle when Frey asks about how his psychology research is going. The Valence that’s a natural at public speaking. The Valence that could pull speeches out of thin air. The Valence that makes elaborate PowerPoints before every presentation.
The Valence that will entertain Frey’s contrarian need to be the opposing side in every debate. The Valence that lights up when he gets Frey backed into a metaphorical corner. The Valence that makes sassy and snarky comments between pages of a novel. The Valence that complains in the margins of his textbooks. The Valence that sends Frey letters over break. The Valence that encloses pictures of the places he visits or the art he’s seen in museums.
The Valence that went to Waffle House at 11 PM with Frey after their last final of the semester. The Valence that takes his coffee with a mountain of creamer and his waffles with chocolate chips and strawberries. The Valence that threw an orange in Frey’s face after Frey came home soaked from the rain. The Valence that made him stand in the hallway until he ate the orange. The Valence that said “I don’t want you getting me sick.” The Valence that cares. The Valence that allows himself to be vulnerable. The Valence that isn’t trying to put up a front.
The Valence that’s real.
-- just... just let that soak in for a sec. i don't have anything to add, just let it marinate. --
God, that's sickeningly sweet, but I'm not into all that sappy stuff.
don't worry, it's not all sunshine and rainbows! in fact, it's a special kind of hell from valence's POV.
because to him, frey is infuriating. while valence had to claw a path to any kind of respect, dignity, or even to have anyone look his way, frey just gets it naturally. from an outsider's perspective, he's damn near perfect at the law practice, he never studies anything, he can go and screw around (literally and figuratively) all day and come back with perfect marks on tests and quizzes, and he's having the time of his life in college.
meanwhile, valence is struggling with multiple flavors of his own sexuality, insane mental health problems, self-image / worth issues, and, again, the strange pressure of having everything at your fingertips but never feeling like you've done enough to deserve it.
please accept another excerpt, this time from my aSiP draft:
[note: contains references to sexual content, alcohol and weed. skip to next bracket to avoid.]
April 10th – 1:43 A.M.
Lovelace operates like an animal. It wouldn’t be an issue if it were simply in his habits, but habits will force themselves into the way one conducts himself in conversation. Lovelace has no manners, poise, or elegance. He says every thought that forms in his brain without pausing to think about the implications or the consequences. I make a point to avoid empty, dull-witted debates, and yet he just keeps pulling me in over and over again. He makes a fine acquaintance, but I would never consider taking it further. He takes far too many partners as it is.
Even so, last night I found myself in a wine-drunk stupor, kissing him like I needed his air more than my own. Lovelace kisses with tongue and teeth, in the same blunt fashion with which he does everything. He tasted like burnt herbs. Neither of us seemed to have the good sense to stop, and so we kept pushing the boundaries. He seemed so intent to stake his claim, to force me into the mattress, to take what he believed was his.
I felt as though I couldn’t take in my own air. There was something horrible in the way his weight felt on top of me. I distinctly remember enjoying myself. I can’t imagine how. I have no interest in being his. I have no interest in his lips. I never did, even when they were against my skin. I know I was drunk. He was drunk, too. He was drunk and high. He was worse than I was. He still had the common sense to ask me if I wanted it. We could have stopped. Even impaired, he would have stopped. We hadn’t lost all our wits.
He asked me if I wanted it. I told him yes. Was I lying? I can’t remember my own tone. Should I be angry? Did he lie to me? There’s no point in anger, is there? I feel ill. Am I fooling myself? Should we have stopped? I didn’t stop him. He didn’t stop me.
I don’t even know if I wanted to stop.
[end warning section. welcome back.]
again, i'm not gonna say anything here. just sit and process.
Okay, so what's aSiP? And Turnabout Lawyer?
they're two sides of the same coin! both are longform FreyVay-centric projects that i'm actively writing.
a study in purple (or aSiP) is a valence POV work that goes through his side of the Pennick University experience. it was originally a piece i wrote for my creative writing class last semester (spring 2024).
Turnabout Lawyer (or TL, or Burden of Proof) is a frey POV work that goes through his side of the PennU experience. it was originally an idea for a visual novel, which i then converted to a screenplay pilot episode for my screenwriting class last semester (spring 2024).
yes, there's intense and serious cognitive dissonance between their experiences. that is on purpose. i will absolutely be providing project updates if this post even gets one (1) note.
Surely it doesn't end after they graduate...?
you bet your shiny boots it doesn't! but i'll be damned if i keep this post going for longer, so for everyone's sanity i have to call it here. i'll make a follow-up post about freyvay after graduation. they go through a lot of changes... but that will have to be for another day.
Wait! I want FreyVay content and I want it now!!
Well, lucky for you, I am the soul owner and participator in FreyVay week, which is happening right the fuck now! No one knew about it other than my bestie westie pesties, and that's perfectly fine to me! I will be posting my silly little FreyVay fics here anyway!!! In fact, I'll be posting the Day One fic immediately after this post, so read away to your heart's content!
The full schedule is here for your perusing pleasure:
---
thank you ever so much for reading all this yappery! i love blah blah blahing about my goofy little guys. please stand by for more freyvay content directly on your timeline as if you are a baby bird.
peace, love, little donuts, etc etc.

1. Mai 2024
Hey Mum,
Schlaf gut Mama, dein Milan 🫶🏻.

2, 16, 25!
2. Did you reread anything? What? I reread a bit this year. The Art of Racing in the Rain, The Magpie Murders, The Thursday Night Murder Club, The Bromeliad Trilogy, Johnny and the Dead, Johnny and the Bomb (in the middle of that one now), What If 2, How To... probably some others I'm not remembering. 16. What is the most over-hyped book you read this year?
More of a personal over-hype than anything, I backed a dnd book on Kickstarter which looked very promising, when it finally arrived I was super disappointed to find it absolutely chock full of awful grammar, spelling, editing errors, math mistakes, typos, and just awful ideas and concepts. Plus, there was at least one miscommunication with the artist where a 'bone compass' (used for navigation) was illustrated as a bone compass used for drawing circles. Huge let down.
25. What reading goals do you have for next year?
Well I've still got a pile of like sixteen books I haven't read yet... really need to keep working on those. I'm also reading The Stranger by Max Frei on recommendation from a friend, but it's very long and progress is slow. I guess my goals are to finish that, to make a sizable dent in my to-read pile (at least enough so I can justify buying more books again...) and heck, let's tack 'do some writing of my own' on that list (doesn't technically count for the prompt but shh)
