Mary with child and Sts Dominic, Michael, John the Baptist and Thomas (ca. 1490~94)
Oil on poplar panel, 223.9 x 201.4 cm
Alte Pinakothek, Munich, Germany
— Domenico Ghirlandaio and workshop (Italian; 1449 ~ 1494)
Domenico Ghirlandaio maintained one of the largest painting workshops in Florence in the second half of the 15th century. In the last years of his life he created his most extensive and important work: he was commissioned to re-equip the main choir chapel of Santa Maria Novella in Florence. Ghirlandaio created the high altar for this, among other things - a highlight of the monumental narrative art of that time.
The subject of the depiction is the appearance of Mary in the form of the Apocalyptic Woman. Dominic and Michael appear on the left, John the Baptist and the Apostle Thomas on the right.

Erika Diamond Asheville, North Carolina 40% (quilt) 2022 Reflective vinyl fabric, batting, lined with “Super Snuggle Pride Pronouns Flannel Fabric” from JOANN(tm)
“The quilt lining signals the single most lifesaving factor in a gender-diverse child’s well-being: a parent using a child’s preferred pronouns. -Erika Diamond
Artist Erika Diamond uses the quilt form to highlight the specific challenges faced by queer youth today. Her quilt, made out of mirrored vinyl, alters the Virginia quilt square block to resemble the outline of a basic house. The artwork’s title, 40%(quilt), references the disproportionate amount of queer youth who are unhoused in Virginia.
Through this literally reflective quilt, Diamond asks us to reconsider the challenges and barriers queer youth face today, giving visibility to a group that is often overlooked.
