Ήταν κάτι λιγότερο από τις μισές Αυγούστου

που αποφάσισα να μην αφηνω

τις σκόρπιες φράσεις μου στον αέρα.

μένω να σκέφτομαι τι θ’ απογίνει

το υπόλοιπο του Αυγούστου μου.

Το πιο εκσυγχρονισμένο πλοίο της Μεσογείου φροντίζει ώστε

να νιώθω ασφαλής,

MATALA BEACH

After visiting Festos Palace in Heraklion, we were treated with beautiful weather and a trip to the famous and historical Matala beach. The cliffs with holes at Matala were originally used for Roman burial tombs, with the holes being there since the Neolithic period. I did some more research and they said they could have been used for more than just burial tombs, since dead people didn’t need that much walking space, it was suggested that people also could have lived in them during the Roman times. It is suggested also that the famous Brutus has frequented the tombs in his lifetime. It is amazing to see the times that Matala has gone through. From Neolithic and Ancient times, to my favorite times in the 60/70s and to modern times now, if only the walls could talk there, they would have so much to say! It makes sense that the hippies would have gathered in Matala because of the beautiful cliffs and coastline and city right behind: it’s the perfect spot to tan, have fun and hang out! I especially loved the murals on the walls expressing love and music- it’s like stepping into a time machine when you get onto the beach! I’m so happy it was nice enough out because this is my number 1 destination to come back to and relish in the Mediterranean Matala sun and moon!!  :)

At the Heraklion museum we saw the disk of festos palace. This is the oldest form of writing that has been found at any of the Ancient Greek sites. They still aren’t sure what the disk says, but they think it might be a poem. They think this because of the lines between symbols which could be poetic phrases. The disk also has 261 different symbols that are yet to be translated.
