what do you think of Erinys/Finn? Other than giving a pretty legitimate reason for Ced to look for his father down in Thracia.

Neat question! There used to be a handful of Finn/Erinys ‘fics out there in J!fandom, but the interesting thing was that every single one of ‘em that I fed through Google Translate side-stepped the issue of Ced entirely to focus on Fee and how awesome it was that she got to use the super-lance that had passed through the hands of both her parents. 

Mechanically: extremely disadvantaged and only Finn/Silvia is worse in the sense that Finn/Silvia is arguably the worst effort–>outcome ratio in Gen1. Kids already have Pursuit and Fee can only inherit that Brave Lance if Fury buys it off Finn first. How romaaaaantic. FE4′s Miracle would be nice for the dogpile situations both kids can end up in during the Thracian chapters tho.

Personality: Uh… who’d make the first move? They’re quite similar (super-polite devoted knights serving colorful princes) and Finn’s already back home by the time Erinys suffers the plot-mandated death of her sister so there’s not even the sort of hurt/comfort kind of angle that comes up with Raquesis post-Eldigan. I can more easily see Erinys being a role model for Finn than anything– she’s a foreign knight (cool factor) and specializes in lances so maybe he’d be looking for pointers? It’s just awfully hard for me to see what’d push these two into a relaaationship. Long, cold Silessian nights and boredom only go so far with well-behaved people.

Kids: Ced looks like plausibly enough like Finn with green hair (especially in FE5) and acts a bit like him too (I will forever love @amielleon for calling him “a more boring version of Lewyn mashed up with Finn”). Fee, uh, uses lances. And Ced ends up in Manster, which is completely bonkers if sired by “predestined” options Noish or Arden.  Not quite as compelling as what you can do with Arthur&Tine or Febail&Patty with Finn as their father but it’s sure better than the AyraTwins, and Finn/Ayra has actual extant fanworks for it.

Plothole: the kids appear to remember their father. 

Verdict: Since many of the plot threads of Gen2 converge in the Thracian peninsula Finn makes an interesting father for most of the kiddies by virtue of a) not being dead and b) all entangled in the Thracian situation, and Ced and Fee are no exception thanks to the Manster angle. I just can’t envision a likely scenario for getting the Angelic Knight and the Model Apprentice matched up together during so short a window of time… unless Lewyn was dead-set on Tailtiu or Silvia and deliberately set Erinys up with a “nice” fallback option… who immediately bails on Sigurd’s party to go home. Yeah, should’ve set your lady-knight up with Noish, Lewyn. 

Verdict: Lewyn/Erinys OTP. She can always buy that Brave Lance off Finn and pass down it to Fee anyway.

Character meme: Arthur

send me a character i’ve written & i’ll tell you the top 3 to 5 concepts i keep in mind while writing them.

The bulk of my Arthur writing and headcanon-ing took place prior to the Project Naga translation and TBH Arthur makes a more positive impression in that than he did in the older script patch. But here goes anyway:

1) Arthur is by no means an “edgelord” compared to what later FE games have to offer but he does have a bit of it when you take the “Arthur Kills His Family” subplot and at to that his confession to Fee that he’s basically making an exception for her in giving a damn. I see no reason to doubt Arthur’s own words on that count. Putting the wants and needs of other people first unless they’re Tinni (or Fee tho I don’t ship that) isn’t his thing.

2) Because Azelle/Tailtiu is historically popular enough to be taken as borderline canon, I’ve seen a number of fanfic Arthurs who are all up on their Velthomer heritage and presenting themselves as such. Game canon!Arthur just doesn’t. Unlike some of the boys (Febail, Lester) he just doesn’t show any interest in the male side of his parentage whereas the Freege angle is an all-consuming obsession. Plus there’s that whole scene where he promises Fee they’ll return to Silesse and unless he’s Lewyn’s son, he can’t. Arthur is a Silessian of Freege descent, not a proud little Velthomer/Edda/Dozel heir looking to reclaim his seat. (Of course this is at least partially an artifact of sharing dialogue with Amid, who can ONLY be a Freege heir).

3) FE4 is woefully lacking in the kind of scholarly mage that we see in other games (Merric, Linde, Pent, Canas, Knoll, etc, etc) but Arthur does appear closer to that end of things than to the “untutored prodigy” side of it. I love the semi-canonical backstory about Lewyn giving him secret assistance with training but Arthur seems to take the craft seriously, especially compared with his mother (who comes across as 100% “natural talent with access to expensive tomes” and not… the studious type).

4) As Arthur says himself in his defense to Fee, he’s not THAT bad of a guy. There are worse in Seliph’s army (especially if you recruited Iuchar). But he’s not that great of a guy either, whether it’s from his upbringing or his… Freeginess? Definitely going to need some work from Mrs. Arthur should there be one. I’d rather not.
