anyways since we’re headed for another wrong-footed start of month in heroes, I decided to take matters into my own hands and egghead about the units we’d get in the three entire Jugdral seasons we deserve
italics marks new skills that I’m adding
strikethrough marks spots where I’m not settled on a specific option
World of the Holy War (FE4 month with Gen 1 focus)
Lewyn (Green Tomes/Infantry/Banner unit - World of the Holy War)
Weapon: Wind -> Elwind -> Rexcalibur -> Forseti
Special: [Chilling Wind -> Glacies] OR [Rising Wind -> Blazing Wind]
A Skill: Wind Boost 1 -> Wind Boost 2 -> Wind Boost 3
C Skill: Spd Ploy 1 -> Spd Ploy 2 -> Spd Ploy 3
Forseti here acts as a Darting Blow 2, granting +4 Spd on offence; I’m not bothering to think much on stats but overall Lewyn here should be the fastest unit in the whole game, even if his other stats don’t necessarily impress as much
Erinys (Swords/Flier(Pegasus)/Banner unit - World of the Holy War)
Weapon: Iron Sword -> Steel Sword -> Firesweep Sword -> Firesweep Sword+
Assist: Draw Back
B Skill: Flier Formation 1 -> Flier Formation 2 -> Flier Formation 3
C Skill: Spur Res 1 -> Spur Res 2 -> Ward Fliers
hey, don’t give me that dirty look, she’s representing what’s probably the best-organized pegasus flotilla from the entire multiverse (besides maybe Begnion’s royal guard), of coruse she’s fully ready to flyer emblem out of the box. and no I’m not giving her the A Skill named Fury, do that yourself with your own fodder, you coward
(but yes, that sword is definitely a sly dig at how she’s usually good with a Fire Sword -- and yes, she’s definitely built to Draw Back Lewyn’s miserable ass into Silesse)
Quan (Lances/Cavalry/Banner unit - World of the Holy War)
Weapon: Iron Lance -> Steel Lance -> Silver Lance -> Gáe Bolg
Special: Daylight -> Sol
A Skill: Earth Boost 1 -> Earth Boost 2 -> Earth Boost 3
B Skill: Quick Riposte 1 -> Quick Riposte 2 -> Quick Riposte 3
Gáe Bolg here acts as a sort of reverse Heavy Blade 2/Blazing Durandal: it gives you more special from being hit by (rather than hitting) something with lower Atk. if you’re not careful with how you attack Quan, he’ll proc Sol right on the counterattack and get to benefitting from Earth Boost all over again! so, of course, you make him drop the Gáe Bolg by snatching his kid, and then you bust out the Ridersbane...
Ethlyn (Staves/Cavalry/Banner unit - World of the Holy War)
Weapon: Assault -> Pain
Assist: Heal -> Mend -> Restore
Special: Imbue -> Heavenly Light
B Skill: Healer Pulse 1 -> Healer Pulse 2 -> Healer Pulse 3
don’t mind me, I’m taking any excuse to diversify the staff assists! like other final-tier staff assists, Restore slows down specials, this time for the added effect of removing status conditions -- you know, like panic, dazzle, movement down... still internally debating on whether it should also purge stat debuffs. anyways, the special slowdown is little issue for Ethlyn here, who, as someone who naturally gets Critical, should obviously have a skill to boost specials, even if she’s stuck with healer specials. this little gem, akin to others like Shield Pulse, acts a Quickned Pulse specifically for healing specials and can even keep’em fully charged from turn 1. it’s not all that good with Ethlyn’s native special, but hey, you’ll have tons of fun either feeding her to another healer or feeding another healer to her!
Ishtar (Blue Tomes/Infantry/Great Hero Battle - Ishtar)
Weapon: Thunder -> Elthunder -> Thoron -> Mjölnir
Special: Dragon Gaze -> Dragon Fang
A Skill: Watersweep 1 -> Watersweep 2 -> Watersweep 3
B Skill: Escape Route 1 -> Escape Route 2 -> Escape Route 3
Mjölnir -- on the other hand from Gáe Bolg -- acts as a straight Heavy Blade 2/Blazing Durandal. Ishtar here is overall designed for glass canon mage shenanigans, but she’s different from Delthea in that her style is less “double for 40+ atk glory” and more “have absurd atk to begin with and inflict a ton of damage without even doubling”. plus, just like in FE4, everytime you think you have her beat, she’ll just warp away...
Arvis (Red Tomes/Armor/Tempest Trials prize unit - Battle of Belhalla)
Weapon: Fire -> Elfire -> Bolganone -> Valflame
Special: Buckler -> Pavise
A Skill: Fire Boost 1 -> Fire Boost 2 -> Fire Boost 3
B Skill: Shield Pulse 1 -> Shield Pulse 2 -> Shield Pulse 3
tired of not dealing damage to Arvis because he keeps proccing Pavise? don’t worry, you’ll be just as tired in Heroes as you were in FE4! Valflame acts as a Steady Breath 2, boosting Arvis’s Defense when he’s being attacked -- on top of everything else, it’ll be difficult to deal damage to him in impunity, specially with Fire Boost to punish you for trying to take it slowly. you’ll definitely want to train your Ishtar from the GHB in time for this Tempest Trial’s final map...
Shadows of the Holy War (FE5 month)
note that from here onwards my ideas are a lot less... finalized.
Leif (Swords/Infantry/Banner unit - Shadows of the Holy War)
Weapon: Iron Sword -> Steel Sword -> Silver Sword -> Light Brand
Special: Rising Light -> Growing Light
B Skill: Desperation 1 -> Desperation 2 -> Desperation 3
yes, that sword targets Res instead of Def. Leif may be the Worst Lord but at least he can crack into a whole new niche! (and yes, giving him Desperation is both an allusion to Adept -- as QR was with Quan -- and a sly dig)
Finn (Lances/Cavalry/Banner unit - Shadows of the Holy War)
Weapon: Iron Lance -> Steel Lance -> Brave Lance -> Brave Lance+
Assist: Reposition
A Skill: Defiant Def 1 -> Defiant Def 2 -> Defiant Def 3
hey, it’s the closest thing to Jugdral-era Miracle that can be done in Heroes, right
Nanna (Staff/Cavalry/Banner unit - Shadows of the Holy War)
Weapon: Assault -> Absorb
Assist: Heal -> Reconcile -> Rescue
Special: Imbue -> Miracle
B Skill: Wrathful Staff 1 -> Wrathful Staff 2 -> Wrathful Staff 3
we definitely need to circulate that particular B skill more often and, well, if it’s a fit for anyone it’s probably her. and a bunch others, but also her. anyways, this is another one of my experiments with new healer assists -- this one also slows down the specials and it still heals as little as Reconcile does, but it also performs a Reposition on the unit being healed -- so it’s a great regular assist, with a little healing on top!
Mareeta (Swords/Infantry/Banner unit - Shadows of the Holy War)
Weapon: Iron Sword -> Steel Sword -> Silver Sword -> Mareeta’s Sword
Special: Night Sky -> Luna
Mareeta’s Sword here is a sword version of Valter’s Cursed Lance. it’s eeeeeevil
Travant (Lances/Flier(Wyvern)/Great Hero Battle - Travant)
Weapon: Iron Lance -> Steel Lance -> Silver Lance -> Gungnir
Special: Retribution -> Vengeance
B Skill: Lifetaker 1 -> Lifetaker 2 -> Lifetaker 3
C Skill: Def Ploy 1 -> Def Ploy 2 -> Def Ploy 3
Gungnir gives him an inherent Iote’s Shield, to match up with him usually having Nihil and the unused Gungnir in FE5 also granting that (besides Paragon and Vantage and Adept, but you know the drill). he may not have his usual annoying ass Renewal, but now he’ll heal himself up everytime he kills one of your units, if you didn’t flip the table and reset at that exact point. he must have gotten so much HP back in Yied- ahem. well. we all know he can pull off ploys that leave you defenseless -- sure, his Res probably won’t be all that big of a deal, but anything with high enough Res to tank the ploy probably doesn’t have enough Def for it to be required anyway.
Osian (Axes/Infantry/Tempest Trials prize unit - Mother and Child)
Weapon: Iron Axe -> Steel Axe -> Silver Axe -> Pugilist
Special: Daylight -> Noontime
our good ol’ PUUUUGIIIIIII here has that Wo Dao function of twisting the knife when a special is procced, although Osian is by default kitted out to make a rather unusual use of it. although I’ve also been toying with the idea of having it grant Wrath 2 instead -- after all, Wrath is in Osian’s default FE5 toolkit...
Heirs of the Holy War (FE4 month with Gen 2 focus)
this time my ideas aren’t even just unfinished, I straight up haven’t thought of anything yet besides the units proper and one or two skills
Arthur (Green Tomes/Cavalry/Banner unit - Heirs of the Holy War)
Fee (Swords/Flier(Pegasus)/Banner unit - Heirs of the Holy War)
C Skill: Spur Atk 1 -> Spur Atk 2 -> Goad Fliers
Tine (Blue Tomes/Infantry/Banner unit - Heirs of the Holy War)
Altena (Lances/Flier(Wyvern)/Banner unit - Heirs of the Holy War)
Weapon: Iron Lance -> Steel Lance -> Silver Lance -> Gáe Bolg
Julius (Red Tomes/Infantry/Great Hero Battle - Julius)
Weapon: Flux -> Ruin -> Fenrir -> Loptyr
C Skill: Res Ploy 1 -> Res Ploy 2 -> Res Ploy 3
Ced (Green Tomes/Infantry/Tempest Trials prize unit - For Whose Sake)
Weapon: Wind -> Elwind -> Rexcalibur -> Forseti
anyways, who else is looking forward to getting something a lot less interesting when/if we do dive on the jugdral side?
