The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) has put out a survey for the public to comment on the proposal for the Florida State Parks, so make sure you’re letting them know your thoughts on their plans!
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) announced an initiative yesterday proposing major changes to various State Parks throughout Florida.
Today, with only one week's notice, FDEP announced public meetings throughout the state scheduled for 3 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27th. The meetings will consist of a presentation and an opportunity for public comment, but with only an hour allotted, they do not appear to include a question-and-answer period.
To voice your concerns about these proposals and the lack of public participation, send your customizable email to the Governor, the Secretary of FDEP, and your state representatives. Adding your connection to Florida's State Parks in the email can help them understand how important this issue is to you, their constituent.
if you are able to make it to one of these, i strongly recommend you do. otherwise please send a message. we dont need fucking golf and pickleball in our already threatened natural areas

FDEP Fines Blue Origin $3000 For New Glenn Stage 2 Static Fire
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection has fined Blue Origin $3000 plus costs for conducting a static fire of New Glenn’s second stage prior to the department issuing the company a permit to use Launch Complex 36’s water deluge system. The total amount came to $3,250, a nominal fine for the violation. LC-36’s water deluge system in action in September 2024 as Blue Origin conducted a…

FDEP has announced a "Great Outdoors Initiative"
For anyone in Florida that might not already be aware, this "Great Outdoors Initiative" is a plan to build lodges, golf courses, and more in state parks, over what should be protected land. Florida already has over 1,000 golf courses. That's more than enough. We don't need to sacrifice our state parks for more of them.
This article is from 30 minutes ago. (Open it in a private/incognito window if it locks you out.) I've called the park nearest to me that is under threat, even they haven't been given much information. They said what I know is what they know.
There are public meetings across the state (private/incognito) on August 27th at 3 pm, which seems right now to be the only chance anyone is going to be given to comment on whether anyone wants this or not. Go to one of these meetings if you can. The Florida Wildlife Federation has a customizable email you can send if not.

Navigating Florida’s Environmental Regulations for Land Clearing: What You Need to Know
Land clearing services in Florida are essential for a wide range of development projects, from residential developments to commercial construction. However, Florida’s unique environmental landscape makes navigating the state’s regulations complex. Whether you’re a contractor, developer, or landowner, understanding the environmental rules surrounding land clearing is crucial to ensure compliance and avoid costly penalties. In this blog, we’ll explore the regulations you need to be aware of when clearing land in Florida, while also highlighting the importance of enhancing equipment reliability and minimizing downtime during your land clearing projects.
Florida’s Wetland Protection Laws
One of the most critical aspects of land clearing services in Florida is understanding the state’s strict wetland protection laws. Florida’s wetlands play a vital role in water filtration, flood protection, and habitat preservation. Both state and federal regulations, such as the Clean Water Act (CWA) and the Florida Water Resources Act (FWRA), protect wetlands from alteration without proper permits.
Before starting land clearing, it’s crucial to determine whether the area includes wetland zones. If wetlands are present, you will need permits from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) or the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Ensuring compliance with these regulations not only protects Florida’s ecosystems but also minimizes project delays and costly fines, which can disrupt the flow of your land clearing services.

On Dec. 10, 2024, after more than eight years of delay and inaction, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) finally proposed the legislatively mandated “Springs Harm Rule.” Regardless of the substance of the proposed rule, having a rule formally proposed moves FDEP a step closer to adopting rules to prevent water use permits that harm Outstanding Florida Springs. Last month, the Florida Springs Council sued the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) in Hernando County Circuit Court for failing to adopt statutorily mandated rules to protect Outstanding Florida Springs from harmful water withdrawals. On Nov. 19, 2024, Hernando County Circuit Court Judge Pamela Vergara gave FDEP a Dec. 10 deadline to show cause why a writ of mandamus that would force the agency to adopt rules should not be issued. Florida Springs Council suit against Florida Department of Environmental Protection in Hernando County Forces Results Although a step in the right direction, simply proposing a rule for adoption is not enough to fulfill the requirements of 373.219(3), Florida Statutes. FDEP must adopt a valid rule that protects Outstanding Florida Springs from harmful water withdrawals. Unfortunately, FDEP’s proposed “Springs Harm Rule” relies on the same flawed permitting rules that have already led to significant harm in Outstanding Florida Springs. “FDEP should be ashamed that it took a lawsuit before it proposed a Springs Harm Rule for adoption,” says Florida Springs Council executive director Ryan Smart. “Not surprisingly, FDEP’s proposed rule is the same as the weak draft rules previously published and will not protect Outstanding Florida Springs. The Florida Springs Council’s legal advocacy to ensure FDEP follows the law will continue until a valid rule is adopted.” “I’m pleased to see FDEP take the first step, however shaky, that it should have taken eight years ago to protect Florida’s springs,” said Rachael Curran, staff attorney at the Jacobs Public Interest Law Clinic for Democracy and the Environment. The Florida Springs Council, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization whose mission is to protect and restore Florida’s springs and spring-fed rivers. The Jacobs Public Interest Law Clinic for Democracy and the Environment at the Stetson University College of Law pursues and defends justice through Florida-focused advocacy on pressing environmental issues. "100 Year Anniversary of the St. Lucie Canal," a pamphlet
Although it is nothing to celebrate, it is important to know that 2024 is the 100 year anniversary of the St. Lucie Canal… I had a goal last year, and that goal was to start writing a book on the history of the St. Luice Canal. I was very fortunate to have plenty of support with materials from the Jacksonville Army Corp of Engineers, the South Florida Water Management District, Dr. Gary Goforth,…
