I've been playing a (horrible terrible) casual app game on my phone for YEARS. You're supposed to connect via FB (nope) to get friends to join, and you can give each other "lives" to keep playing when you run out. SO- I don't do FB, and I've been on a defunct 'team' for years. In December someone joined the team and started actually using the Chat! and exchanging lives- and connecting with those of us who were still active.
