I had the awesome idea of making gold foiled endbands!

So I cut off the tail end of a 'hide' of eel leather, which is very thin. I picked a red one since red is traditionally the colour to go with gilding (at least for gilded edges a red base coat is used to give the gold a warmer sheen). I taped the leather to some board and foiled it. The foiling, even if a bit patchy, worked nicely and gave a pretty sheen. I needed only a little so there was plenty of foiled leather that was good to use even with the few patches. When I glued it up to work around some thread all the gold flaked off though and left me with almost solid red endbands again.

In the end I just painted the whole thing over with some acrylic gold paint, which worked perfectly and was way faster than the foiling XD
