I love the "Extreme G" Series....and "XG III" was one of the best Games in the Series. The Sense of Speed was just astonishing and the Soundtrack was absolutely amazing. Greetings, today's #gameoftheday goes to Extreme-G 2, aka XG-2 for the Nintendo 64. Released in 1998 it is the second entry in the Extreme G series where you drive futuristic vehicles bikes (which kinda resemble Light Cycles from Tron) in an intergalactic Grand Prix driving at top speeds of 1000 miles per hour. Each of the vehicles have their own characteristics in handling, speed, armor and traction. One major element of the Extreme G series is weapons. Yep, it's a futuristic Mario Kart where you have a certain arsenal of weapons at your disposal to takedown your enemies to gain first place. When piloting each vehicle you have to keep an eye on two different energy meters in the heads up display, one meter for your armor and the other for your weapon's energy. If your armor is depleted you will crash and burn upon contact of any opponents or if you crash on the track costing you either a life or the race entirely. One awesome thing about this series is that it runs a smooth 60fps which was mostly unheard of back then. Upon release this game was criticized for the fluctuating framerate and slowdown compared to the first, which ran a smooth 60fps non-stop. Me personally playing this I haven't encountered it too much and if so I don't notice. It's a super fun racing series that I believe needs a resurgence. Futuristic racing games were all the rage back in the late 90s but I've been noticing a sudden uptick popularity of these arcade style fast paced racing games. So an HD remaster or a re-release would be perfect for modern audiences. It'd make a great budget title for digital downloads on PSN and XBLA. XG III: Extreme G Racing (GameCube- Acclaim - 2002 - FRA) I like the Extreme G franchise, despite it being kind of a WipeOut knock-off, but somehow I keep on forgetting about this third entry. Extreme G (Nintendo 64 - Acclaim - 1997 - EUR) At a time when WipeOut and F Zero were fashionable, some companies tried to develop their own futuristic racing game knock off, trading the low gravity gimmick for an high gravity one, hence the title of this game, Extreme G. It is a decent game overall and the bikes’s design is cool but I would never forget a comment from a magazine that said that Extreme G is a pinball simulation disguised as a racing game. So our first experience of paddling along the Kennet Canal and onto the Thames this weekend has now clearly established to ourselves that paddling the DW is NOT going to be a pretty sight, Period! The scenery at times may have aesthetic beauties however the sight of us relieving ourselves both in and out of the boat, falling down river banks, eating food alongside rat infested locks and littering our hands with more blisters and blood than in an A&E department are making us ask questions as to who came up with this idea in the first place!

Rather than the GB cycling team with a case of ‘marginal gains’ team ‘The Stiff Upper Lip’ have been needing a boat load of ‘MAJOR’ ones! Thankfully thou so many great people have already stepped upto the mark and helped us start to raise as much money as we can for 'Parkinson’s UK' as in truth this is one of the main reasons why we are planning getting to the finish line, alongside the hope that we have not contracted Weil’s disease to severely!!!!!

Well two weeks ago a voice message left on the phone said:

“Hey Guys its Matthew from www.extreme-g.co.uk can you please call me.”

Oh boy are we glad we did, this seriously is one of the best calls that we could have ever made to one of the nicest and genuine people we have ever met. Matt has spent a lifetime in his K1 Kayak, knows more about them than we ever will and his shop is basically the ‘Gucci’ of boats and associated gear for paddling! Matt truly has gone beyond the call of duty and given us full support with Zastera kayaks, Jantex paddles, Tripper and Nookie clothing, and we mean FULL SUPPORT!
