Tom Vargas From EXODUS.
Watched the Q&A for EXODUS™ (from Archetype Entertainment) yesterday, and had to express my budding excitement. =) Tried to sketch Tom Vargas, one of the companions. While I failed to captured his likeness (he kinda looks like my ex?), it was a fun exercise. Ha, we will see if he will be interesting enough for me to want to draw him right.
The animations and cinematics shown so far look really impressive. If the actual gameplay matches that quality, I'll be over the moon. Of course, it's still early days, so I'm trying not to get too ahead of myself. But it's hard not to feel a spark of hope.
This budding excitement for EXODUS is, I'll admit, partly a coping mechanism for my growing disappointment with Dragon Age 4. Oh, DA4… where do I even begin? The art style is proving incredibly difficult to warm up to. The lighting looks diffused and smooth, reminiscent of The Sims 4. Character facial expressions seem barely there, and the strange lack of texture is honestly alarming. They look like plastic dolls, for crying out loud! After experiencing the visual feast that was BG3, how am I supposed to immerse myself in this plasticky world?
I've supported BioWare for years - and I mean YEARS. I was the fan who pre-ordered everything, devoured all the canon novels, and eagerly watched every canonical animation. But this time? DA4 will have to wait until after the first patch before I even consider buying it. The Andromeda experience taught me a harsh lesson about blind faith. At this point, I'm not even expecting DA4 to be good - I'd settle for a mediocre, but at least coherent story.

I have finished.
I came from 1500 words ( and not 1500 K... damn I feel bad for that mistake 😭🙄) to 6800 words.
This is my first edit. The story is finished. I consider it is. Now it needs polishing, edit, grammar correction, probably some clarification, and so on.
But it is done. And this was quite a ride, that I enjoy greatly. I can't wait to share it with you. On the other hand I understand it will not be in the style/type of story I share on here, or those you read.
I did it. Damn it, I am proud of myself! Now, the hard work. Finding beta-readers, correct that and so on.

While it is not "per se" the consequences of time dilation, there is still a good parallel to be made with Planet of the Apes: they traveled at near light speed and arrived on a strange planet that turned out to be a post-apocalyptic Earth.
Something that could arrive with Jun during one of his Exodus trips when he returns to Lidon.

Calling all space explorers and Mass Effect enthusiasts! Buckle up for a thrilling deep dive into Exodus, the epic new sci-fi RPG from Archetype Entertainment, a studio helmed by industry veterans with proven experience crafting unforgettable space adventures. This recently unveiled cinematic trailer has sent shockwaves through the gaming community, igniting excitement for a title that promises to redefine the genre. Let's delve into the captivating world of Exodus and explore what awaits players in the vast expanse of space. Exodus A Universe of Intrigue: Humanity's Exodus to the Stars The narrative of Exodus centers around humanity's desperate search for a new home. Earth, ravaged by unknown forces, is no longer fit to sustain life. As humanity clings to existence, a glimmer of hope emerges – the discovery of potentially habitable planets scattered across the galaxy. The trailer introduces the concept of "green worlds," seemingly idyllic planets with lush environments that could be the key to humanity's survival. However, the path to colonization won't be a walk in the park. The trailer hints at unforeseen dangers lurking beneath the surface of these seemingly perfect worlds. Are these "green worlds" truly habitable, or are they harboring a sinister secret? This question hangs heavy in the air, leaving players eager to explore the depths of this captivating narrative. Familiar Echoes: A Legacy of BioWare For fans of BioWare's iconic Mass Effect series, Exodus might evoke a sense of déjà vu. This is no coincidence. The trailer subtly showcases design elements that echo the beloved Normandy SR-1 spaceship, a testament to the pedigree of the development team. Archetype Entertainment is led by veterans who played a pivotal role in crafting the Mass Effect universe. Their expertise in crafting immersive space operas shines through in the trailer, offering a level of detail and world-building that is sure to resonate with seasoned sci-fi RPG players. This isn't just a simple homage; it's a promise of quality and an assurance that Exodus will deliver a deep and engaging experience that builds upon the foundations laid by BioWar A World of Peril and Discovery: Exploring the Green Worlds The trailer offers tantalizing glimpses of the diverse environments that players will encounter in Exodus. Lush forests teeming with life, desolate wastelands sculpted by harsh weather conditions, and alien landscapes unlike anything ever seen before – the green worlds hold a wealth of secrets waiting to be uncovered. The trailer emphasizes the importance of exploration and adaptation. Players will need to utilize their skills and utilize the game's crafting system to overcome the challenges posed by these uncharted territories. Will you forge alliances with the indigenous lifeforms you encounter, or will you be forced to fight for survival? Every decision will have consequences, shaping your journey through the vast expanse of space. Beyond the Trailer: Unveiling the Mysteries of Exodus With the release date yet to be confirmed for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, many questions remain unanswered. Here's a glimpse into what we might expect from Exodus: Rich Character Development: Will players be able to create their custom characters, or will they be taking on the role of a predefined protagonist? Choice and Consequence: How will player decisions impact the narrative and the fate of humanity's exodus? Combat Mechanics: Will Exodus offer tactical squad-based combat similar to Mass Effect, or will it introduce a new approach to space warfare? Multiplayer Options: Will players be able to join forces and explore the green worlds together in a cooperative multiplayer mode? The coming months are sure to bring more details about Exodus, but the trailer serves as a captivating introduction to a game that has the potential to be a genre-defining title. FAQs: Q: Is Exodus a sequel to Mass Effect? A: No, Exodus is a new and original IP. However, the development team is comprised of veterans who worked on the Mass Effect series. Q: When will Exodus be released? A: The release date for Exodus has not yet been announced. Q: Will Exodus be available on previous generation consoles? A: Based on the announced platforms (PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S), it's unlikely that Exodus will be available on older consoles. Q: Will Exodus offer a multiplayer mode? A: Details about multiplayer options haven't been revealed yet. Stay tuned for future announcements from the developers.

Exodus Podcast - Episode 1
Welcome to Traveler Talk! A place where we speak about the game, the news from the game, the TTRPG (tabletop role-playing game), the book, and every other thing from the Exodus Game.
I was very lucky to be invited by Somehotcookies, a Discord friend, to come have fun on his channel.
youtube
It's one hour long and you will hear me talk with my very thick French accent. The first minute is the introduction, then (more or less) :
1 to 4 - Game overview, what is Exodus?
4 to 10:40 - What drew us to love be interested in this game
10:40 to 21:10 - Presentation (without spoiler) about the book by Peter F. Hamilton
21:10 to 39:40 - We are just obsessing about the Players Handbook (for the TTRPG)
39:40 to 47:50 - Character creator : what will it be?
47:50 to 54:20 - What could be the next big reveal?
54:20 to 56:20 - Will it be at SGF (Summer Game Fest) aka the month of Jun(e) (there is a pun in there).
56:20 -59:50 - Potential release window?
Then we tease what we will discuss in the next episode and it's the end, with me babbling about this tumblr.
Somehotcookies has a whole playlist about the game, so if you like his energy and his passion, please go and have fun while listening to it! And, if you're curious, not just about Exodus.

The advantage of having a scientist...
as a hubby, and being a scientist yourself, is that you can check your writing. Of course, it is also a curse. Because I feel compelled to follow a strict set of rules for my worldbuilding.
For example, I write about a world with a blue sun. And the way chlorophyll works (at least if I follow what my biologist hubby told me) is that plants will be green in white light, red/purple in blue light, and blue/teal in red light. Plants will take the "colour" that is the most common/present and not use the less common.
So now I'm checking my whole story to make sure I've added the right colour in the right place (which I haven't!) and also checking the colour of my sky and now I have to think about my clouds.... *sigh*.

When I first finished this story...
it was just 1500 words (edit!) NOw, with the edit, the lore checking, the landscape description, I am at 3000k and counting.
And I just edited half of it.
I have too much fun writing this fic : another universe, another type of story, a return to Sci-Fi for me. Feels good.
Now, I just have to keep in mind I have a to-do list to finish (okay I have A year to do it so that's not too bad).

Uh... I may have done something I shouldn't have...
My to do list was to edit one of my long fic, and read my ref, and work on the illustrations for my children tales.
NOT write a fanfic for the Exodus Game... I kinda did a short story 😳🙄😶?
So, I am editing it. And now, well. You know me. I will be soon looking for beta-readers.
It's not what you find on this blog most of the time. So my hopes are not very high, but I am trying nonetheless.
It is a Sci-Fi text (well sci-fi as in space, suits, some vague terms) and rather violent (death, betrayal and revenge, some grizzly details). No romance.
If you ARE interested to check it (in spite of it), let me know.
For the lore, I'll check it another way. Beside, there's not that much about the game so I have a bit more freedom.

And the second podcast is out!
Once again, lots of fun with Mr Somehotcookies!
We exchanged about lots of subject, with a good side dish of speculations as always. Among suject, we discuss the release date, the show that is Star Heist (I mean IT IS James Ohlen DMing this thing!), we also discuss about Jun and family... And a bit of fun about this comment that "Jun is a mix between Paul Atreides and Indiana Jones".

Why writing Exodus fanfic is so fun?
I really wondered why, because I have other fandoms and I love writing for them. But since I started writing fanfic for the Exodus universe, I'm having fun. A LOT.
And I realised something: it is original fanfic. And I'll explain.
While I use the Exodus worldbuilding: Awakened, Cataphract, Time Dilation, Traveller, etc., my characters are original.
You can tell me, well, yeah, these are OCs, nothing new there. True enough. But with a whole universe, different planets, and the game not even out yet, I have very little "canon" to follow.
This means that I have no constraints on my characters' personalities, backgrounds, ages, lives, etc. I can pretty much go wherever I want in my story. And, I have to admit, compared to traditional fanfic, it feels really freeing.
This does not mean that I will not write other stories. But at the moment, Exodus allows me to release my muse in a way that it hasn't for a while. Also, sci-fi is an old love of mine, and it's good to be back after so long.
And that means: The New Gal fanfic will have more chapters... At least one, probably two... And then other stories to go back to the fic Family. Because those two stories are connected. yup.

Slowly but surely...
I'm seeing the end. Maybe tonight, or rather tomorrow, I should be able to finish my story.
I take advantage of a bug at my job where I had just... no job at all to do today. So I took the day off and : write and bake and write...
Tomorrow will be different, I already have a list of things to do. But I want so badly to finish it!
This story is rough and harsh and I love it (and a bit horror like). My characters are horrible and flawed and damned I like everyone of them.
This is so different from what I have written so far and yet, I relish every bits of it.

Sci-Fi beta reader
I have a 3946 words of a sci-fi fic waiting for some beta-readers. the story is set in the Exodus Game (from Archetype) universe. It is a scene between a few people. No violence, no sexy, just people discovering each other.
As always : grammar, formulation, questions of continuity or weird things. Also : looking for suggestion for original insult (when reading it'll become clear).
If you're interested let me know!
