MASTERLIST
A new life, a new beginning. Ae Chu wanted to get away from her hometown and have a new start at life. Moving to a bigger city in a new country was always her dream. Ae Chu had been studying the new language for a few months, although she was learning faster than most people, she still needed to learn more of the advanced structures of the language. Hokkaido, Japan was her first choice, not Myeongdong in Seoul, South Korea. But after sometime of comparing college tuition and open jobs and apartments, Ae Chu chose to live in Myeongdong.
With a cardboard box in her arms and a couple duffle bags behind her, Ae Chu stood looking up at her new apartment building. She wanted to be independent, she could have lived on campus for her sophomore year but she’d still need to pay for the boarding.
“Excuse me, miss?” A voice interrupted her thoughts. Turning around to look at the man who had made her heart jump, she looked up at his face hiding underneath the black hat he wore. Dark brown hair, almost jet black, piercings on both ears, his skin a soft tan. “Miss?”
Ah! Fuck, I stared too long!
“I’m sorry, ah, can I help you?” Ae Chu said softly in Korean. Her cheeks began to flush red.
“Actually, I was going to ask if you needed help. Are you staying in this apartment?” The way his voice sounded as it traveled to her ears were like heaven.
“Oh yeah, I’m staying here, fourth floor actually…” She responded, her face beginning to feel hot as she realized she told a complete stranger private information.
“Cool, I live on the same floor. Uh, would you like me to help with your stuff?” He asked.
Ae Chu would have declined the handsome man standing before her but she was already grabbing her duffle bags behind her and started walking to the buildings front doors.
“So, you’re a student at the University near by?”
Ae Chu nodded her head, “Do you go there too?”
“Yeah, I’m in my last year. Majoring in music. You?”
“Oh that’s cool. I’m a sophomore in the food department specializing in baking.”
The man smiled, they finally made their way to the elevator. Ae Chu pressed the fourth floor button and set the box she had in her arms down on the flood. The man followed her inside and set the bags down too, stuffing his hands on his jeans pocket and leaned against the cold mirrored walls. A silence stuck around like a sore thumb.
“Ah! I forgot the introduce myself!” He gasped, taking off his cap and clipping it to the belt hole of his pants. “My name is Im Jaebum, most people call me JB.” He stuck his hand out, his long slender fingers adorned with a few silver rings.
“Seong Ae Chu, nice to meet you Jaebum,” she smiled, letting her hand softly wrap around his. Warm and soft.
Jaebum cleared his throat, Ae Chu could have sworn she saw his cheeks turn pink. Finally the elevator bell rang, Ae Chu and Jaebum grabbed the box and bags, Ae Chu leading out first from the moving room, Jaebum trailing behind her. They reached her room and Jaebum snickered,
“I guess we’re neighbors, I’m right here,” He pointed to room 402.
Ae Chu didn’t know what to say, the fact that she was living next to a handsome guy or the fact that she needs to visit the university today and get a few papers from the school office. She opened her new apartment door and set the box on the open desk near her bed. Jaebum also placed the duffel bags at the foot of her bed.
“So I guess I’ll see you around. If you need anything, you know where to find me,” Jaebum gestured to the right side of her room where the bed was with a smile.
As he was about to exit her apartment, Ae Chu walked up behind him and cleared her throat to get his attention. Jaebum turned to face her, Ae Chu caught the scent of his cologne when he turned around, causing the air to brush the few strands of hair away from her face.
“I was thinking if you could possibly come with me to the university and show me where the faculty room is on campus? I need to go there and pick up a few documents before I enter the semester,” Ae Chu informed, tugging at the ends of her black hair.
“Yeah sure, just give me five minutes, I need to get a few things from my room and give it to one of my professors.”
The two both smiled at each other and Jaebum left her apartment. Ae Chu jumped around her apartment and grabbed her phone to text one of her friends.
“Hey, Byeol! I’m finally in Korea. Sorry I couldn’t text you when I landed, I had so much on my mind. But anyways, we should meet up later this week!”
“Ae Chu! I could have picked you up from the airport!”
“It’s fine! I caught a taxi to the apartment and I met someone that goes to the same university as us.”
“Really?! Who?!”
“I’ll tell you later! He’s pretty cute!”
“HE?!”
Ae Chu closed her phone and quickly cleaned up her makeup in the bathroom, ruffling up her hair. There was a knock on the door and opened it,
“Ready?” Jaebum asked.
“Yeah!”
The both of them headed down the apartment hall and to the elevator. Jaebum walked down with his hands behind his back, he wore his cap backwards now, the cologne more prominent than it was five minutes ago. Ae Chu smiled and looked at his side profile. He really was indeed handsome.
“Since it’s almost lunch, you wanna grab some food after you get your documents?” Jaebum asked, his hand ran over his stomach. “I know a great burger joint near by. My friend can give us a few dollars off.”
“Oh! Yeah, food sounds good right now!” Ae Chu complied, her mind now thinking of more things, getting documents, eating, and hanging out with a possible new friend.
“I don’t mean to be rude or anything but you’re not from Korea, right? You kinda have a faint accent.”
Ae Chu laughed a bit, “You guessed right. I was born in Hawaii, my mother is full Korean, dad’s mixed with Japanese and Chinese.”
“Why’d you decide on Korea, then? I would think that if you were majoring in food the States would have a wider opportunity.”
“Well, I’m more interested in Asian cuisine but mostly in the baking. You see, I only moved to Korea because I wanted to experience something different and have a new start, you know?” Ae Chu informed, following Jaebum alongside the back alleyways, taking short cuts here and there. She hesitated for a bit before saying, “I don’t really plan on staying in Korea though. I’ll probably move to the States after I get my degree.”
There was a small pause before either of them spoke again. They still walked side by side, Ae Chu looked around the alleys she had walked through. The smell of food filled the area, small stores were bustling with customers.
“Maybe you might change your mind and stay a bit longer after you graduate,” Jaebum suggested.
Ae Chu looked up at Jaebum who still pressed forward but his face was turned the other way. She could see the tips of his ears burn show a shade of soft red, Ae Chu playfully slapped his arm.
“Aw come on! It’s going to be a few years before I’ll actually move. Don’t be so emotional, plus, we just met so it’s still a bit awkward, you know?” She said her last words slowly, not sure how her new friend would take her comment.
Jaebum turned back to her, his face grew a small grin and chuckled, “Well, let’s do our best at being friends. I feel like we can become closer!” His hand landed on Ae Chu’s shoulder, giving her a bigger smile than the one he showed a few seconds ago.
Ae Chu and Jaebum continued to stolled for a few more minutes until they reached the university. Jaebum lead her halfway across the campus to the student center where the faculty and staff had their offices.
“Here’s where you’re probably going to need to get those documents,” Jaebum informed as he opened the door for her.
“Hello,” Ae Chu greeted as a few of the professors inside turned to see who was walking in, “I’m here to pick up a few documents from Professor Junho, is he here by any chance?”
“Ah yes! I’m over here!” The teacher waved his hand up high, he sat at his desk, papers nicely stacked upon one another, his cubicle walls adorned with pictures Ae Chu assumed were his family. “So you’re Seong Ae Chu, right?”
She nodded her head, offering her hand to greet him. “Glad to meet you. I was a bit worried that I might have gotten the dates wrong, I’m still a bit jetlagged and thought today was Wednesday.”
Professor Junho smiled, showing his pearly white teeth, “Well, I’m happy to tell you that it’s Thursday and you’re just on time,” He looked over at Jaebum who was standing behind you. “I see you met Im Jaebum, he’s a great student, good in all his classes. If only he could participate in helping me assist a few of my english classes.”
“Hey now, Junho. I offered my help, you just rejected it because you knew the other students would find me more fascinating than learning about American writers and all that.” Jaebum now walked to the professor’s desk and leaned against the edge, picking up a pen and twirling it around his fingers.
“Ah that’s right, the papers.” Professor Junho shuffled around his desk, opening up drawers. Although he seemed to be neat and tidy, it was probably just for show to make an impression upon a new student. “Here it is!” He pulled out a set of papers from an envelope, looking through them to make sure that they were the ones Ae Chu needed to look over and sign. “Now, I hope that the school will be comfortable enough for you. Although Korean is your second language you should know that the pace for the classes you’re taking won’t slow down so if you’re in need of assistance you can always ask me or ask Jaebum, here.” Professor Junho went on about the documents in the packet and it seemed like he would never stop talking.
“Hey, Junho. I think it’s time that we start heading off. It’s still our break until the semester starts in a couple days, so let us have our freedom now.”
The professor scoffed and waved the two of you off, “Alright, alright. You kids go off now, then.”
Ae Chu and Jaebum headed out of the teacher’s office and got off campus. Ae Chu looked over at Jaebum, “So how about that burger joint you were talking about?” finding herself getting hungry.
“Yeah! And maybe while we’re at it maybe we should clean up your Korean,” Jaebum said, trying to hold back a laugh.
“Yah!” Ae Chu slapped his arm playfully, “It’s not that bad is it?!”
Jaebum didn’t say anything and kept walking, his hands stuffed in his pockets.
“Yah!” Ae Chu ran after him laughing.

Goodbye’s Aren’t Always Sad: Part Three
Tumblr media

Masterlist
Part One | Part Two | Part Three | Part Four (Finale)
Word Count: 2,521
Paring: Jaebum x Reader ft Youngjae
Genre: Angst | Fluff
A/N: I’m sorry it took me a while to update this.. I still need to update New in Town.... hahahahaha
The time you got home from dinner with Jaebum’s parents you were exhausted, you flopped yourself onto the bed as your new fiance slipped off your heels. You sighed and raised your left hand in the air staring at the ring on your finger.
“Did I ever tell you how much I love you?”
Jaebum looked up at you, a smile spread wide across his face, he undid a couple buttons of his dress shirt and laid down beside you. Taking the moment, he intertwined his fingers with yours and kissed the back side of your hand. You watched his actions, dining in on the little features of his face, all the things that he thought were imperfections made you love him all the more. But when you felt his lips on the back of your hand, you began to question what he was doing.
“Why’d you do that?”
“The kiss?”
“Yeah, the kiss. You don’t do that unless we’re parting, why’d you do that?”
Jaebum kept his hand tight around yours and held it close to his chest. “Well, there isn’t any reason. I just wanted to do it.”
His answer didn’t seem to make sense. Your mind was going in all directions, “Jaebum, is something bothering you?” You sat up on the bed and managed to slip your hand out from his grasp.
“No, nothing’s wrong, just a bit tired today. We did a lot.” Jaebum shot back. He followed your movement and swung his legs onto the bed, his hands on the caps of your knees. “I just feel a bit uncomfortable with Youngjae being around and all.”
“I don’t understand. Youngjae’s a great person. I mean, he did say something weird to me before we left his house.”
Jaebum scrunched his brows. “What did he say to you?”
“He told me that you stole what was his.”
The words that came out of your mouth confused his even more. “Is that all he said. Did he do anything to you?”
The image of when Youngjae kissed your flooded back into your mind. “No, he just said that one thing.” You didn’t want him to worry, you loved him and he loved you, you knew that because he just proposed to you. Would this count as cheating? But you didn’t consent to it so it wasn’t your fault, right? “I’m gonna wash my face.” You scooted yourself off the mattress and went to the bathroom.
You looked at yourself in the mirror. Who were you? Why were you keeping secrets from someone you loved. It wasn’t like you at all. You grabbed the soap and washed away the makeup to give yourself time to think alone without Jaebum by your side. When you came back into the room Jaebum had already fallen asleep, his shoes on the floor, this buttoned shirt only showed half of his body, and he wore his gym shorts to bed. You couldn’t help but smile at the cute sight laid before you.
You pulled the covers over his body and brushed away the strands of hair that hid his beautiful face with the tips of your fingers. You made room on his forehead to press a soft kiss against his skin and let his sleeping face be engraved in your mind. The precious moment was seized from you when your phone lightened up with a text message from Youngjae.
-----
“Hey, are you busy?”
You answered, “What do you want?”
“I just wanted to see how you were doing.”
“Why do you want to know? I shouldn’t even be talking to you.”
“Just because of what happened earlier? It was just a kiss, (Y/N).”
“Oh ‘it was just a kiss’ huh? You know I’m going out with Jaebum, right?”
“You really don’t get it, do you? Remember when I said that he stole what was mine?”
“So what of it?”
“He stole you away from me. Don’t you understand?”
“No. I don’t understand and frankly I could care less. Plus I was never yours to begin with. You should also know that he proposed to me today.”
“You’re freaking kidding.”
“I’m not, Youngjae. You and I, what happened earlier today needs to be kept a secret from Jaebum. It’ll kill him if he found out.”
“Maybe I should tell him what happened if he’s going to die so that way I can have you all to myself.”
“What the actual fuck, Youngjae. How can you say something like that. Are you seriously going to risk your friendship with him?!”
“He’s not a friend to me anymore. I loved you, (Y/N). He knew that I liked you but he ended up taking you away from me. I would do anything to go back in time to change that.”
“Stop, Youngjae. Don’t you ever talk to me anymore. Don’t ever bring up the kiss to Jaebum, I beg of you.”
“I can’t make any promises, (Y/N).”
“Youngjae! YOU CAN’T TELL HIM. ANSWER ME.”
-----
Youngjae didn’t answer you after that. Your heart was racing, your mind began to think of different situations in which Jaebum would react to Youngjae telling him that he kissed you. Would he be acceptant of the fact that you kissed him once and that was it and he would forgive you? Would he secretly hold back his anger but show it off like it’s nothing? Would he cry for nights about how you were with another man who was his best friend? You were at a complete loss for words, you were scared to know that Youngjae might spill the secret and even more terrified to know what Jaebum would do.
The entire night you were restless, your brain barely let you sleep. You laid in bed while you looked at the back of Jaebum head. You didn’t want to let him go. He was the best thing that ever happened to you and if he really left you, you wouldn’t know what to do with yourself. As the sun started to rise you felt Jaebum shift in his sleep and turned his body to face you. His eyes slowly opened, blinking a few times and then smiled with his eyes closed when he noticed you staring at him.
“What~?” His voice was groggy. “Couldn’t sleep?”
You hummed in response. “I got a few hours,” you lied to reassure him. “Are you hungry?”
Jaebum’s hands traveled to your hips and pulled you closer before wrapping his arms around to hold you. You let your arms drape over his torso and pressed your face against his warm chest. Taking in the smell of his shirt as he placed a kiss on the top of your head.
“Jaebum.” He took a while to respond back, you thought that he had fallen back to sleep. “Jaebumie,” you called his name out again in a cute tone.
“Give me a few more minutes.” Jaebum whined.
“You still need to take a shower. You smell,” you notified as you tried to push him away with your hands against his chest, he wouldn’t let go.”
“I don’t wanna. Plus, it’s comfy sleeping like this.” He pulled his face away from the crook of your neck and looked at you with a smile spread across his face. “Unless you want to join me for a shower like last night.”
“Yah, I look one already when you were sleeping.”
Jaebum looked at you with puppy dog eyes. Instead of complaining and trying to get you into the shower with him his hands started tickling your sides. You burst out laughing, you tried to slap his hands away but he would tickle you in another weak spot. The playing around slowed down when Jaebum finally got out of bed and went to take a shower. You had gone off to the kitchen to make breakfast for your man.
Heavy steps made it’s way down the hall, the sweet scent of shampoo and body wash overpowered the smell of pancakes and bacon. Jaebum came out in his sweats, and white t-shirt, his towel hung over his broad shoulders, hair still dripped with water.
“Yah, are you a child? You’re hair is still soaking wet.” You scolded Jaebum and grabbed the towel to pull it over his head and ruffed up his hair. He looked at you, his eyes showed no emotion that you could see. “What’s wrong?”
His hands stopped yours from wiping away the remaining water. “About Youngjae.”
The moment Jaebum said his name your heart stopped.
Did Youngjae call Jaebum? Did he say what happened yesterday?
“I can’t help but get jealous when he’s around you. Is that weird?”
You were in the clear. For now. “No, of course it’s not weird. I mean, we’ve been together for so long and here comes Youngjae and we’re like best friends now. You’re just being the cute possessive boyfriend.”
Jaebum scoffed and walked to the other side of the island in the kitchen and sat down as he watched you plate the pancakes and bacon onto a plate. You poured him a cup of coffee and one for yourself, placing all the dishes in front of him.
“So, what shall we do today?” Jaebum asked as he munched on the pancake topped with banana slices. “Do you wanna go to the beach?”
Your eyes lit up. “Yeah! Let’s go, I haven’t been to the beach in so long. It would be nice to go back and feel the sand beneath my feet.”
Your fiance smiled, “Alright, then let’s go after we finished breakfast.”
After a couple hours, you had packed a beach bag filled with a couple towels, sunscreen, sunglasses, and snacks. You tied on the new bikini top you had bought last week with a friend, pulled on your short white swim shorts, and slipped a white oversized t-shirt on. Jaebum also put on his swim trunks and a shirt. He walked over to you and took your hand in his.
“I invited a few of the guys too, some of them are bringing their girlfriends too. Is that okay?”
You were surprised to know that Jaebum had invited other people before asking you. You didn’t want to be the type of person that controlled her lover so you let it slide. Nodding your head, you followed Jaebum as he grabbed the keys and pulled you along to the car. The ride felt so short but it only took a couple hours until you saw Jaebum’s friends. Bambam, Yugyeom, and Jackson waved their arms in the air to get your attention. You noticed Mark and Jinyoung with their girlfriends close by, you rolled down the window and waved back at your friends. It was all fun and amusing until you saw Youngjae leaning on the hood of someone’s car. His hand gesturing a wave back to you.
“Hey, what’s up man?” Jaebum greeted his friends, hugging everyone, only to stop in his tracks when he saw Youngjae. “What’s up?” He then gripped Youngjae’s hand with force and smiled. “So guys, shall we get ready for some fun in the sun?” Jaebum shouted as he ran from the parking lot and down to the beach, the sand flew everywhere with every step. All the boys followed the childish leader while you and the other two girls stayed behind walking slower.
“So, (Y/N), you’re going out with Jaebum, right?” Ah Young asked, her hat shading her face from the bright rays of the sun.
“Yeah, and you’re Mark’s girlfriend, right? You and Chaerin make a great pair with Mark and Jinyoung.”
The two of them looked at you with a smile, Chaerin then commented on your relationship status. “Right! I heard you and Jaebum are now fiance’s! That’s amazing, congratulations!”
You thanked the two girls and you laid out some of the beach towels on the sand to sit on. Watching the boys manhandle each other, acting like little kids, made you feel somewhat relaxed. You saw Jaebum with his hands on his waist laughing at his friends as they picked up BamBam and tossed him into the water. Jaebum looked over to you, your hand in the air with the sunscreen bottle in your grip. He jogged over to you and got on his knees and hands before quickly stealing a kiss.
“Yah, do you want to get burned? You should at least put sunscreen on your face.” You scolded your fiance again and he just grimaced at you contently.
“Put on for me, (Y/N)?” he asked before facing his back towards you.
Shaking your head with a smile on your face, you squeezed the product onto your hand and rubbed it over his broad shoulders and down his back. Then when he faced you, he helped put some on his chest and arms while you booped his nose with sunscreen. You smeared the lotion on his face and when you finally told him you were done he immediately got up to join his friends again, completely forgetting to help you.
Noticing the slightly irritated expression on your face Chaerin offered to help. “I’ll help you, (Y/N). If you could help me with my back too.”
“Thanks, Chaerin. My idiot fiance is probably too excited about his friends being here.”
After a while, the three of you helped each other put on sunscreen and laid in the sun for a while. Feeling like you were too hot, you slipped your shades off and saw some of the boys digging a hole in the sand, Jaebum sitting at the shoreline with his feet in the water. You walked over to him, letting your fingers graze over his shoulders as you walked by and into the cool ocean. Jaebum followed, his eyes watched your figure as the water splashed against your legs and then your torso.
“Having fun, babe?” He asked as he finally joined you at the side, both of you faced the ocean as ships slowly crossed by.
“I am but…” You caught yourself before speaking on.
“But what?”
“But I thought that you meant it would just be us two at the beach. You didn’t ask me about having everyone else join us.”
Jaebum’s smile started to turn into a frown. “I thought that you’d want to get to know Chaerin and Ah Young and spend time with the boys.”
“Jae, although I love hanging out with them, it would have been better to ask me before we had planned this instead of telling me as we’re driving here.” You were getting slightly irritated at the fact that he still didn’t understand that he should have asked. “Plus, why is Youngjae here? I thought that you were uncomfortable with me being around him.”
“I don’t know, maybe Mark invited him. Why are you being so irritated lately?”
His comment made you want to snap at him but the sounds of splashing water nearby made you shut your mouth. The two of you looked over to the shoreline to see Youngjae a few feet away from you.
“Oh shit, sorry guys. I didn’t mean to interrupt.”
