Walking back into the kitchen, you let the smile drop from your face once you got past the doors and instead let your frown show. While this catering gig was a step up from some of the other jobs you've held in the past - the number of tips you got serving at some of these events was very much welcomed and definitely help you continue having a roof over your head, that didn't mean that it wasn't without its faults. Much like any other job, some of the people you encountered were horrible. The best interaction you could hope for was them giving you a polite no or nod as they noticed what you carried in your tray. The worst was the unwanted groping which always seemed to be more frequent when you had to serve at high-end events which were filled with people with deep pockets.

Walking over to a nearby sink, you placed your empty tray beside it with a sigh. Leaning against the counter, you took the moment to rest after having been on your feet for hours. Despite the food for the event having been served in tiny portions and very light, it always left your arms aching by the end of the night.

"Thank God that it's finally over," You hear a familiar voice say. Looking up, you smiled when you noticed Grace with Evie trailing a few steps behind her, both making their way over to you. Dropping their own trays on top of yours, they stood beside you as you rested your head on Evie's shoulders.

"How did you do?" Grace asked, pulling out her tips from her pocket and you and Evie followed her moves. Mentally counting as you thumbed through the bills, you paused when you heard Evie groan. Looking at her, you raised your eyebrow when you saw read the black writing on the twenty-dollar bill she showed you and Grace.

"What a creep," You comment as she rolls her eyes and continues counting her tips.

Grace pops a beef carpaccio into her mouth. "Are you going to call him?"

You let out a giggle as you see the weird-out and amused look Evie is giving Grace. "No. Gross."

"If you're not gonna call him, maybe I will." Grace continues, turning the bill in Evie's hand to get a better look at the number.

"You can do better than him, Grace." You tell her. "The Rolex he was wearing was a knockoff. I'll keep a look out at the next event for a better sugar daddy."

Evie laughs at this while Grace points at you, a mock-serious look on her face. "You better."

13: Name a book with a really bad movie/tv adaption

Think I'll give this to The Boys. I didn't touch the comics, but I heard a lot of not-so-good things about it and only decided to check it out because a friend nagged me to. First season convinced me.

15: What book changed your life?

This might be a weird one, but 11/22/63 by Stephen King. It just kind of blew my mind? And the time traveling trope really messed me up at the end, but in a weirdly good way. This was one of my most favorite books of all time by him. If I ever decided to write time travel, I'd take a page from his book because I like how it was approached here and the butterfly effect it had. Also, the historical and political consequences of preventing a presidential assassination.

No hate to it, just wasn't my cup of tea and the spicy scenes were uhh, they kinda took me out 😭 but A Court of Thorns and Roses. I liked the worldbuilding, and the potential was there! But the romance was a bit off-putting to me.

50: Why do you love to read?

My imagination is WAY too overactive for its own good, so when I read, I can paint really vivid images of what's going on and it feels like I'm watching a movie when I'm reading, if that makes sense? Especially when an author has really, really good prose that transports me to the place in time and all of my senses are being used, it's just *chef's kiss*. But I love digging into mysteries and coming up with my own theories of what's gonna happen and how things are gonna play out. I read 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle somewhat recently and kept theorizing who the killer was gonna be throughout the novel, and I just find it fun. I also love finding those gems that end up staying with me for days or weeks after and it just completely takes up real estate in my head.

Ever since she had been a little girl, Evelyn Adams had thought herself transcendent — raised on the devoted words of a man who put his faith before anything else, there was no other way. Born in Jacksonville, near the river where history and trauma went hand-in-hand, Evelyn was the younger sister of two brothers and one long deceased sister who had passed prematurely years before Evelyn had made her ascent, she had been raised to follow the herd, to act not without consequence but with serious contemplation. Her mother had been a Helltown original who had fallen in love and ran away to be with the man she had fallen in love with on a haywire trip gone wrong. It was a romantic picture, and one that Evelyn wanted for herself as she watched her parents playout some happy-go-lucky attitude, raising their kids despite the gloom that hung over their porch by sundown, she had been blissfully (or stupidly) unaware of how they had fought when they put the kids to sleep, exchanging violent words for venomous spittle till one day her Ma had quite enough. Drawn back to where she had begun, she left the kids with their father, promising to come by and see them whenever she got the time to travel from Ohio to Florida. Of course, those trips were few and far between, but still Evelyn didn’t forget the faith installed within her. She had prayed and listened to what God had to say, that all led to a fate that remained unavoidable, that her parents would reunite on the ‘morrow when tempers had died down. Still, one year turned into the next, and Evelyn soon realized that perhaps the fate of her parents was not to one another. 

Despite her Pa’s initial distress, Evelyn had been quite an academic in mathematics and theology, so much so that she had earned a scholarship to Tampa University. It wasn’t much, but it was something as her brothers went into more hands-on work, working up and down the River to earn their keep before finding their own handsy women who quickly popped out one kid after the other. But Evelyn hadn’t been that much better, by the time she arrived at University, she had quickly met another like minded student — Samson Hernandez had entranced her, and though she had promised not to lay with another till marriage, Evelyn lay with Samson happily. By the time the finals of her first year came around, she had fallen pregnant, which had put something of a spanner in the works concerning her dream of France and Europe, and yet had only shone a light on Evelyn’s thoughts of fate and union. 

No one would’ve been happy to hear that Evelyn had fallen pregnant outside of marriage, so it had only made sense for the two to get married quickly, to legitimize the future as one would when presenting government forms — to her? It had been easy, for by the time she felt her body change she knew that she would never want anyone else, and in a flurry of action and proposal, she introduced him to her Pa and her brothers as her husband, resulting in something of a fiery affair — for what good would it to to either of them? He was a son of a prominent member of the church, and she was the daughter of a local bum. Still, by power and the belief of a holy intervention, Evelyn left her father behind in order to follow Samson into the hellfire of Tampa, leaving her studies behind in order to prepare herself for the first essential work: to give birth to their first daughter. 

If darkness coaxed Samson into its cradle, then Evelyn went hand-in-hand, acting as the shadow to support all that went wrong in those hot, sweltering years. By the time the truth came to light, their pockets bulged with the weight of stolen money in order to decorate their lives in the colour of success. As the noose of truth crept around their necks, it was Evelyn who suggested a final escape to Helltown, she had laughed, swearing that her mother had come from here and that it could be their chance to redeem the sins they had collected. Having since grown fearlessly protective of the family she had made, Evelyn tightened their bonds and led them to safety, where the air grew thick and the people grew lazy. 

With what money they carried, they secured a place big enough to keep and grow the family in good standing, to construct a living lie that they were suitable, honest members of a welcoming community. By the time they unpacked their brown moving boxes, Evelyn had integrated herself into the neighbourhood — fixing playdates, baking cookies and making up with a mother who had long been vacant from her life; no one can really know what Evelyn does to keep her head afloat. And damn it, she will do anything to keep her family safe.

Time ago I did not have something as a favorite character beyond some guys I liked, but nothing more. Then Tumblr made some silly brainwashing shenanigans (blorbo) and this is the list updated to this exact moment:

You can bet your ass I'm completely forgetting someone. I'm pretty sure of that. I constantly have to remind myself of writting down my favorite movies/series/books/music/etc because I'm one disco night of completely forget who the fuck I am.

Everyone of these pieces of shit are crucial puzzle pieces in the way I think of myself and the world. (Ok, that sounds waaaaaaaaaay deeper than it actually is, but whatever).

Karkat Vantas: God damn it. I mean. How not to love him. He's so brave and silly and crazy and mean and full of love for his friends and full of hate for everything. When I think about "putting blorbo in situations" he's the one because is so fucking funny. I want to push him in a washing machine (full cycle) and then give him a party. About fanart, I specially like the ones where he's smiling. After the chaos Homestuck was and even before with Alternia's death traps, I really (REALLY) want him to be happy. And here me out, I'm aromantic so I don't really relate a lot with romantic crushes and stuff BUT that stupid animation of him hate-falling for Egbert broke my heart. The music, the MUSIC!!!. AAAAAAAAAAAAAA. (However, Dave Strider is another cool dude, and seeing them together is the only thing that still makes me want a romantic relationship).

Harry Du Bois: I like to think about Karkat when I need comfort in my life, but the real deal in that place is for Harry. During the game I was so attached to him that when I found out about the hobocop (sleep outside, specially the trash bin thing), I was pretty sure I was going to cry if that happened. Harry is hilarious and I love him. Is a fucking mess and the most sad wet pathetic cat (I don't care about Vriska). I tried to make the best person out of Harry. Be kind, be gentle. Go to sleep and don't abuse drugs, caring for himself and for others. "You can live Harry!" I used to whisper. Now, when I find myself at 3:00 am feeling empty, drinking unhealthy dosis of coffee and energy drinks, without having taken a bath in a week I think of him. And I cry.

Daniel James Fenton/Danny Phantom: This one is slightly creepy. When I was a boy I used to have very non-traumatic thoughts like "what would happen if I died?", "would someone care?". I used to imagine myself as a ghost wandering through my funeral. And OH BOY! You can bet your ass I used to think about Danny too. Not quite dead, not quite alive. And turns out I wasn't the only one! Hahaha. A quick check of the #Corpse AU tag and holy shit. The Phandom is doing horrible things to this kid and I'm here for that. I don't have those thoughts anymore (at least not that recurrently). I like his silliness, and specially, the theme of identity. Have you ever imagined what it must be like to hold your own skull? Visit your own grave? He's the one I make suffer the most (as a way to process my own dark thoughts), hahaha, but as the others, I imagine for him a happy life. (Even if your corpse is rotting in Amity's forest).

Evelyn Wang: Until last year, I did not have a favorite movie either. That changed after 10 minutes of EEAAO. I have watched this movie at least 50 times just in the following 3 months and I cry every time. If I told you about Evelyn, what should I tell you? I love how she's a little of shit at the beggining. And I look through her eyes, wondering "what if?". I'm in my 20's but everything seems so possible. Being an architect, devouring the world, dying in a traffic accident. Everything is happening at the same time and I feel that I'm falling behind. Her journey is finding the empathy that she lacked to embrace her life. Glimpses of other worlds. A buffet of possibilities and choices. Full of inconditional love. You can look at my cover photo: Is Rock Evelyn, and her phrase "There are no rules" will forever be in my heart (and hopefully, in my skin this year). She made me want to live. (Oh my god, I'm about to cry again). And, as a extra. I know the DMS-V ADHD syptoms from memory and watching the movie was like playing bingo. I'm sorry Percy, but EVELYN? Girl, you don't have ADHD. You ARE the ADHD!

The Warden: He may be the one I care the least, in a intimate sense. BUT JESUS CHRIST!!! The energy this goof has is obnoxious. Fire, hell and rainbows. Oh boy! OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY!!!! (And the mannerisms god lord. I want to steal his gender)

Percy Jackson: And finally, the first character I had a deep relationship with. I mean, I never was sooooo into him. He made me realize that MAYBE I wasn't what we call "straight" hashahsha. (I feel you Nico). Another goof you may say, but I really like the way the prophecy is handled about him , like the gallow of his own death. I don't have something particular for heroes, but he was a very important part of my life (the books in general) when I was a kid. I used to felt them as a part of myself in a way that I usually slept hugging them. I refused for a long time to read the last chapter of The Last Hero because that would be like throwing the last shovel of dirt in the grave of a childhood friend. Because that's what he's to me.

All these people are idiots, have menatl issues and need a hug. What else can I tell you? Probably before I see the last movie of Spiderverse, The Spot may be here too. But probably more related to The Warden than the others.

Uncle is the Adder, an intimidating leader who has raised them to believe that he has powers given to him by the snake like ocean deity they all have to worship and serve. The story begins with the deaths and murder of the family members with only Dinah and Evelyn surviving. This is a gothic murder mystery along with a cult like family and folk-tale aspects. The children in the family are raised to believe that there is a snake in the ocean that has powers and that by worshipping it, they will be part of the “pure” who will be the last remaining people on earth with the snake deity comes and kills away the rest of the “impure.” The children are abused and drugged and made to believe that everything is being done for their own good, so when a police inspector comes to try and save them.... Evelyn begins to see what is really happening to her family and what they are suffering. The question then becomes, whether she can save her family before its too late or will they all die... and who really killed the family? The story is confusing, it doesn’t really start to make sense until about 60% into the book. I’ve read the author’s previous works and really enjoyed them, and I did enjoy the gothic atmosphere and horror nature of the story. It was written beautifully, I was just a little bit lost while reading what was going on until the twist at the end where everything is tied up. Overall, this does make a good read for a nice cold afternoon with a cup of tea. It definitely is a good one to pick up for autumn and spooky reads.
