Something i never saw anyone talk about was how the trial in “Escape from reality” wasn’t only for Mabel, But also for Dipper.

People tend to brush the trial off as “Dipper reasoning with Mabel” but isn’t only that, it isn’t that all in my perspective.

The trial serves as a way to remind both twins of everything they’ve been through together. Reinforced by the fact that it shows bad moments from both of their lives.

Yes these were shown in Xyler and Craz’s speech to prove their argument that fantasy is better than reality, but it proves the exact opposite to Dipper.

I actually think this speech was constructed in a way that would allow Dipper to reach the opposite conclusion, probably influenced by Mabel’s subconscious — her subconscious desire to go back to reality weakly fighting against Bill’s hypnosis — as we know it affects the entirety of Mabel-Land

No matter if that’s true or not, it still helps Dipper build his own case, as we know he didn’t even have an argument ready previous to being put in trial, as it was completely unprompted, and even worse provided him no attorney ,leaving him to fend for himself.

We know for a fact that Dipper’s argument was constructed based on Xyler and Craz’s case as it shows him holding notes, ones that he probably took mid-speech.

Being faced with these memories reminds Dipper that whenever reality got rough they were always there for each other. I think that at the start of the trial Dipper still intended to take Ford’s apprenticeship, and this is the moment he decides otherwise.

This is the moment he realizes that he doesn’t want to be holed up in a lab, that he wants to grow up alongside Mabel.

After that he shows his conclusion to Mabel, which subsequently brings her back to her senses. This trial was meant for the both of them, to bring back both of the twins from their own respective fantasies by making them realize how much they actually suck.

Mabel realizes that staying in Mabel-land would mean never actually growing up, being trapped inside a dream-like state forever, leaving all her friends and family behind. It would mean never being able to see her brother again after he loses the trial since he would be banished.

Dipper realizes that taking Ford’s apprenticeship would mean growing up too fast, being trapped in his studies for his entire life, leaving his friends and family in favor of acquiring knowledge. It would mean losing his sister.

They both leave these fantasies behind in favor of each other, and yes they might be scared, terrified of what’s coming after since weirdmaggedon is still going on after all. But they know that they will always be there for each other, it’s the one thing they’ve always known.

They know it will be okay because they are together, since they will go home together, no matter what.

Although Evan didn’t want anyone to know it, he was kind of coffee addict. Thought of somebody of his friends or even worse enemies would see him there was frightening him a bit. After all, he was really more of alcohol guy.

Sitting with a pumpkin coffee, he made sure nobody sees him, reading Rita’s boring newspapers. If somebody told him he would ever read it, he would definitely call them crazy or even do something worse. But here he was, sitting and reading, trying to find something interesting around.

Having finished his errands for the afternoon and succeeding in finding some unusual ingredients for a custom bake order, Jason had some time to stop for a drink before returning to start on it. Ordering himself a hot chocolate, he clutched the hot mug in both hands and glanced around at the nearby tables for somewhere to sit. Rita had stared at the small note that had very unceremoniously dropped from seemingly thin air and onto her desk. Got a scoop. She repeated the words in her head. Knowing Evan, he probably meant a scoop of ice cream or something equally ridiculous. But still.... what if it was more? What if he really did have another story for her? After all, he had the connections for it. 

It was that thought that had her grabbing her bag and apparating to the spot he had specified, note still clutched tightly between her fingers as she did so. She supposed, even if it was just a scoop of ice cream, she was overdue a break regardless. Wobbling a bit as she landed, her arms thrown out to the sides to balance herself, she looked around, squinting slightly from the bright rays glinting off a nearby table. When had it gotten so warm out? Shrugging out of her jacket, she made her way toward the small cafe, figuring if past experience were anything to go by, he was already there. With a deep breath, Rita straightened her spine and marched toward his table. “Rosier.” She greeted with an almost too-bright smile, seating herself delicately in the chair across from him. “What’s this big story you’ve got for me this time? Fortescue’s has a sale on cones? Or maybe the Headmaster’s bought some new robes?” She teased, rolling her eyes, although the hunger in her voice was undeniable, and it was clear that even as she joked, she hoped she was wrong - hoped for something a bit juicer.

Stan was definitely freaking out when the twins showed him journal 3 at the end of gideon rises.

He knew Dipper was interested in the paranormal but he thought that him discouraging it had kept the kid from searching the town or ,at the very least, kept him from seeing the heavy stuff.

But knowing that Dipper had the journal all along, and that Mabel was in it too, put everything in a completely different perspective. Because now he knew the kids were messing with the supernatural all summer.

The same supernatural that took away his brother. His adult brother, and these children were doing the same stuff completely unsupervised! and right under his nose too.

He’s now faced with the horrible realization that the twins going out all day wasn’t to “hang out with friends” or whatever he thought they did. No, they were doing the same thing Ford was doing.

Anytime during the summer the twins could have gone out and never have come back because of an “adventure gone wrong”.

Did Stan ever sit down and truly wonder just how many times had he almost lost his family again, without he even knowing?
